what if it was lake wobegoon

Well, it's been another quiet week in Lake Wobegoon Minnesota, my old hometown, the little town that time forgot. It's a hard time of year out there on the prairie, very cool temperatures out there. Water becomes solid at much warmer temperatures than the ones they're getting right now and of course water's mostly what we are. So you feel a sort of tired heaviness. This wasn't a problem for the Varulv boy of course because this week he decided to have his very first transformation you see and his folks were very proud. The fur coat really helps beat the winter chill out there. They're having a dinner over at the Lutheran church to celebrate. Plenty of venison as the young man mauled a good five, six deer out there in the moonlight. Doggy bags will be provided so the meat doesn't go to waste. I didn't mean for the doggy bag thing to be a joke but it just sort of came out that way. But they're very proud. Said it couldn't have happened on a better night because the missus' bridge game was cancelled and she was able to help him through it, and that's lovely. A very personal time for a mother.

Jeremy Flats and his wife however aren't taking the cold so well, being from outer space and all you'd think a Minnesota winter wouldn't compare to the uh, you know the empty vacuum of space but they, well they say it's about the same if they're being honest. You know those little hooded cape things they always wear are awfully stylish in the summer but they catch the wind there and. Well and those two are so skinny you know I heard Ralph say he saw one of em near get carried away by a strong gust. Yup, found Mrs. Flats hanging onto the cathedral over at Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility and they had to get the big ladder out, which you know Ralph loves to do. Offered to sell them some regular wools so's at least they wouldn't take off like that but they really seem married to that whole look. Who am I to judge them, I don't like those itchy wools either, never did.

Anyway that's the news from lake Wobegoon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average.

You like Sondheim? His early work was a little too Rodgers and Hammerstein for my taste. But when Sweeney Todd came out in '79, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a boost. In '23, Thomas Kail released this; Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, a full scale revival of the original text and score, complete with a 26-piece orchestra for the first time since 1982. I think the undisputed masterpiece is "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd." A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about Sweeney's personal reputation! It's also a Shakespearean chorus and a warning in the form of a prologue about the story, the tragedy even that's about to unfold before our eyes. Hey Paul!
