He's had little time to actually sit down and think, because once he does he's in the nearest bathroom or trash can heaving up everything and nothing at the same time.

It's no wonder Tsubaki is standing in front of him right now trying to reassure him it's not his fault.

His face, his lack of control, being unable to gain his body back before absolute carnage raged over Shibuya. It was his fault he let Sukuna do whatever he wanted in his body, again. First it was Fushiguro, then it was the casualty of thousands of innocent lives-

Yuji lets out a shaking breath, feeling the tears well along with bile. He shakes his head aggressively. Clenching his fist tightly to reign in his emotions again. He's a murderer, and that's that.

Is all he's really able to tell her, as usual He notices he rarely speaks these days too. Choso usually asking yes or no questions. Really All Yuji wishes to do for a moment is lay his head on her shoulder for a bit, so that's what he pulls her onto his lap for. He holds her, tightly, as she and Choso are the only two people he feels he has left.

i finally bit the bullet and bought a nice semi-expensive silk bonnet to replace my crappy satin one ($8 vs $3 so not a huge difference but a noticeable one) and. omg. I just tried it on since I just got home from the store and it's soooo comfortable I may never take it off

alright alright alright a little rundown about the powers in the superhero au

starting with the kids!!

under a read more. cus this could get pretty long

Reynie - Hydrokinesis! exactly what it sounds like, he can control water. Usually when the kids are out doing Hero Things he’s got a bottle of water handy so he doesn’t have to rely entirely on the environment. But, that being said, Kate’s ability can come in handy-

Kate - weather powers! She can make a little stormcloud, create a wind current, or make lightning strike at her will! She’s a weather machine. The great kate weather machine, if you will :)

Sticky - as mentioned in previous posts, Sticky can turn invisible! His suit is designed to react to his powers and turn invisible when he does. His glasses can’t do this though, they’re just normal glasses. So if he ever has to go invisible on the job, he’ll be trying to function in a very blurry environment.

Constance - Constace is!! ...well, she’s Constance. What she’s got going on in the au is basically exactly what she has going on in canon already, but cranked up a little. She has more trouble tuning out others’ thoughts, and she can connect with people mentally. Though this takes a great amount of energy because she has to make the effort to send her thoughts out to the person she’s speaking with, whereas the other just has to think, and she will hear it. So, yes, not much going on there thats different from canon. Constance isn’t allowed out in the field, but she does help! I’ll make a post about how at a later date, likely through doodles of some sort

SQ - so. I’ve said his deal is complicated a few times before. mostly because. i dont really think there is a name for his power? And I’m not exactly sure what to call it. And that is an element in-universe. No one is exactly sure what SQ’s power is. It’s some sort of energy thing, and it glows brightly when he uses it. Or rather, he glows brightly. He’s a walking glowstick. It has the ability to be incredibly destructive, but also healing. Except... he almost never uses it. Not on purpose. And not himself. Curtain has only ever taught him that his powers are dangerous and not to be used by him. But, with his own abilities, Curtain can put his powers to good use for him. You’ll see what I mean when I get there.

Martina - Pyrokinesis! She has a blowtorch right at her fingertips and she can control any fire around her at will! She does have to be cautious though. Her skin may be heat-resistant, but her hair and clothes are not. Probably not the best idea to give her a cape, but Curtain has an aesthetic to adhere to, and the cape is part of it.

Jackson and Jillson - a packaged deal! They are connected mentally. quite literally. They can speak to each other silently via telepathic communication that only the two of them share. It’s not like what Constance has going on. They cannot hear others’ thoughts. They cannot do this with anyone else. Only with each other.

annnnd now the adults!!!

Mr. Benedict - He can heal! He can literally ‘kiss it better.’ The amount of effort this takes depends on the wound. Little scrapes and cuts and burns can be healed with just a few seconds of contact, no problem. But, with big injuries it’s not always reliable, as healing takes energy.

Number Two - She’s fast as hell!!!!! zooming all over the place, no one can keep up with her. This, and her nightmare of a sleep schedule, is why she snacks so often. Running around so fast like that takes a lot of energy very quickly, so she’s always got little snacks on hand to make sure she doesn’t run herself into the ground.

Rhonda - She can create illusions! These can be things seperate from her, or something on her. So, say she were to disguise herself, she could make an illusion to change her hair. Or if she needed a distraction, she could make something separate from her. However, these illusions disappear when physical contact is made with them, because they are not physical things.

Milligan - Super strength! Pretty generic, but very useful. He could lift a car over his head no problem. The issue that comes into play is this also makes it difficult for him to gauge when he’s badly hurt. Because he can keep going despite some nasty injuries, which tends to add up and be very dangerous. So he’s gotta be careful.

Mr. Curtain - oh boy! The big one. So, Curtain has mind control. But it’s not exactly how you’d think of it typically. It’s almost like possession, I suppose? He sits down somewhere secure, and hops into the mind of whoever it is he’s trying to control. To do this, he needs to be connected with the person physically, typically holding hands. When he does this, said person’s eyes glow completely blue. Curtain, physically, has fallen asleep in whatever safe room he’s locked himself. Mentally, he’s in the body of whichever person he’s projected into. And that person, mentally, is in a sleep-like state. The closer he is emotionally to someone, the stronger the connection is, and the harder it is to break. He can only do this to one person at a time. And, since powers are connected to the body, he has control over the powers of whoever he’s puppetting.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Curtain fears SQ’s powers. Because he knows they can be unpredictable, but he also knows they could be very powerful if SQ were given the chance to thrive in a training environment. He doesn’t want that kind of power going unchecked. So, he feeds SQ lies about how he won’t ever be able to control his powers on his own, but Curtain can, if he’s in the driver’s seat. He can use SQ’s powers to do good. And SQ, of course, trusts his dad entirely.

Even if he probably shouldn’t.

The more I compare the TMBS tv show characters to their book counterparts, the funnier I think it would be to see the book versions of the characters meet the show versions of the characters. Especially the villains. Especially Nathaniel/Curtain.

Because show Curtain is very different from book Curtain: he has a whole backstory as Nathaniel Benedict, he wants revenge on yet also misses Nicholas whereas book Curtain had no idea he existed and couldn’t care less, and even though show Curtain is still super toxic, he still cares way more about the kids and SQ than Book Curtain.

So anyway, I know people have been making posts on this, but these are my favorite funny imagined interactions between the two versions of the characters:

At first, Book Curtain is shocked to see Show Curtain without a wheel chair and the “narcolepsy I conquered through force of will” line makes him feel inferior. But that changes when Book Curtain sees Show Reynie’s 1x08 speech actually put Show Curtain to sleep and he A) realizes Show Curtain is actually not stronger than him, he’s just a weak insecure vulnerable sad little man who makes his trauma everyone’s problem and B) immediately tries running Show Reynie over with his wheel chair when he starts telling Book Curtain that “he knows there’s good in there somewhere”.

Book Curtain gets confused when other characters call him Nathaniel. The show characters realize that Ledroptha is actually his real name and constantly making fun of him for it (especially Constance). Show Curtain is not sure whether choosing Ledroptha as a horrible pun name or having it be your actual name is worse, but he’s relieved he has another name he can go back to.

Book Curtain expecting that after the happiness revolution the two Curtains are going to torture their respective Nicholas and their friends or use them as their personal slaves/servants, only to watch Show Curtain throw them a little party in a field with music and streamers. People try to get Book Curtain to join in the festivities and he is not having it.

Show Nathaniel sobbing in front of the frozen statues of his Nicholas and Nicholas’ book counterpart like “please come back… you have to fix this, fix us” while book Curtain glares at him like “fix what? We won you idiot.”

I also feel like show Nathaniel would try to adopt book SQ when he realizes book Curtain has been brain sweeping him and using him as an executive/messenger. Show Nathaniel didn’t allow his SQ anywhere near his work, and we never see him as an executive/messenger. Was show Curtain a good dad? No, but he had limits. I feel like the biggest rift between their characters would start when Book Curtain goes: “of course the brain sweeping… necessary to keep him loyal. I would never have actually adopted him though, can’t have the boy getting too clingy. Between you and me, perhaps I may be fond of him, I do appreciate loyalty, but he’s always been more of a pet to me than a son. Strange you never used yours as an executive or messenger, I don’t suppose you got any real use out of him then?” and then Show Nathaniel is so disgusted (because no one talks about any version of HIS son that way) and his toxic adoptive instincts kick in and he’s like “you know what? I can take two. SQ, meet your new brother, who is also you from a parallel universe” (Book SQ of course would be thrilled to finally have a version of Curtain adopt him and Show SQ would be thrilled to have a sibling).

Bonus: Show Curtain mentioning to book Curtain how Milligan and Garrison betrayed him and book Curtain being like “the man was a secret agent, of course he betrayed us. And who cares about some scientist I’ve never heard of? The Whisperer is our invention so it’s not like she can do anything to stop us.” And show Curtain realizes that the book version actually invented everything himself without a doctorate but he has to keep up the illusion of his intelligence and insists on referring to himself as “Dr. Curtain” which infuriates his book counterpart. However, Show Curtain is also constantly on the lookout for Garrison, least he be exposed a fraud with fake degrees.

Also side note: when the SQ’s meet their counterparts and other Curtains, I feel like it would be really hard for book SQ to justify Curtain’s treatment anymore because the show version of SQ is clearly unhappy and of course book SQ would stand up for him, but then it would be pointed out that book Curtain is way worse, and at that point Book SQ can’t really justify his actions anymore. Meanwhile show SQ would look at book Curtain/SQ like “is that how I’d be treated if I wasn’t his son? Is my dad really that evil?” And Show Curtain wants to be like “no, I would never do that” and comfort his son, but he can’t because well, after nearly killing his own brother and driving his son away, maybe he is that horrible. And that terrifies him.

Alright I know I made a whole impassioned speech about the gorgeous symbolism in Milligan's name and everything last night.

But.

Mr. Stewart. Sir. My good man. Author of one of my favorite series of all time and all around creative genius. As much as I absolutely adore your books.

What was going through your head with your naming system???

Some of them make complete and total sense, and some of them are just odd in the most weirdly intriguing way? I respect the decision on all of them because they fit the characters amazingly (for the most part), but, on occasion??

Therefore, I am going to rank all of the names from the main people in no particular order, according to my own research and slightly goofy reasoning.

S. Q. Pedalian - Exquisite character. But his name is a pun?? And it's an ironic pun, because "sesquipedalian" means to have a lot of syllables or use long words, which S. Q. continually struggles with!!!

7/10 Sad, and a little bit funny, but all in all clever and a really unique name for a sweet boy. Very calm and soft colors and connected to a very curly and gangly word that fits him quite well. I think he would really like using the word that is his namesake, whether he knows it or not.

Constance Contraire - "Constance" is, of course, a name meaning "constant" or "steadfast". "Contraire" is just an actual French word that means "opposite", which is an amazing summarization of her personality.

10/10 Hysterical and one hundred percent accurate, and it is alliterative! Very poetic. The "ire" at the end feels very defiant and Constance-y, not to mention that "Ire" as a word means "anger".

George "Sticky" Washington - "George" means "farmer" or "someone who works the earth", while "Washington" likely means "home of the Wassa people", and can be attributed to a place in England. Now, the very obvious connection is to George Washington the historical figure, who is likely someone Sticky looks up to, and also had a lot of pressure on him, there is something to be said about the metaphorical meanings of "home" and "settling" in conjunction with "farmer" (someone who works hard to grow).

8/10 Not as much fun in the meaning, but still a solid and green/blue cool colored name. It feels like a particularly friendly frog with sticky frog skin.

Kate Wetherall - "Kate" is short for "Katherine", which means "pure" ("Caitlin" is also a form of "Katherine"). I've talked about "Wetherall" being a play on "Weather all", but it is just so spectacular I had to go over it again. There are not a lot of credible sources, and while one mentioned that it might mean "place where wether sheep are kept" (wethers are male castrated sheep), I am much more inclined to think that it is made up, as it makes more sense.

7/10 Still love the way it communicates her independence and how hard she works, and the "pure" part is a nice association to her and Milligan's relationship with water (and the both of them being strong swimmers). Her last name also feels very windmill-y and helter-skelter energetic, like her.

Reynard Muldoon - "Reynard" is from a Germanic name meaning "strong in council", which is beautiful and poetic and just the best name for the one who tends to guide the group and continually falls back on them for reassurance. "Muldoon" is just one of those old Gaelic kind of names that means "descendant of whoever".

9/10 Lovely hidden meaning, and even more so when you consider that the only person to purposefully continue calling him that is Curtain. Really soothing colors, warm browns and more reddy colors, soft like a sweater.

Jackson & Jillson - I don't know their last names, so they get put together. First off, "son" as a name suffix literally means "son of". Some people say "Jack" is a form of "John", meaning "God is gracious", but there are one or two other theories. "Jillson" is a name of dubious realness, as I can't find a lot about it. Some sources (very, very few) say it might mean "Son of Juliana/Gills", but it is highly unclear. "Jill" by itself means "youthful", so the "son" suffix doesn't make much sense there either.

10/10 Even though they don't really make any sense, the "Jack and Jill" theme is evident and they both feel suitably pointy to be executives. Wonderfully silly and yet sharing the facade of trying to be Serious and Official.

Martina Crowe - "Martina" is a name derived from Mars, the Roman god of war, and "Crowe" is to do with the bird, and can be used for someone with black hair. It is also possible that "Crowe" means "hound of destruction", but either way it works with her aggressive and competitive spirit.

10/10 Perfectly fits her, black hair, need to dominate and all. It is a sophisticated sounding name, and comes across as authoritative. It is also prickly, and you can feel the prioritization of winning over social graces.

Milligan - Not really a name, but has the inherent meaning of his promise to take Kate to the "mill again" and is therefore a great name full of the most heartbreaking and incredible symbolism.

∞/10 I can't describe how well this name works in every conceivable way.

Number Two/Pencilla - Despite both of them being hints at her pencil-like appearance, I really like all of the love you can see in "Number Two". Her decision to go by her code name is initially out of her dislike of her legal name, but it is also a reference to her being Mr. Benedict's second in command (and possibly to the fact that she was the second person to join his organization, depending on when Milligan arrived).

10/10 A terrific way to show her commitment to her work, and, in a similar way to Milligan, how her name changes to be what those who love her call her.

Rhonda Kazembe - "Rhonda" can either mean "good spear" or "noisy", depending on who you believe. "Kazembe" is the name of a traditional kingdom in Zambia, from what I could find. This has very little to do with her personality, but it sounds really pretty and is distracting, which I think may have been the point. Similar to her appearance when she was initially introduced to the kids, her name is unusual and draws attention to her (which is why I included "noisy" as a meaning), and it aids in her misdirection.

8/10 Not a lot of symbolic meaning, but I very much love how it sounds, her first name is full of nice round sounds and warm smiles, and her last name reminds me of the fun patterns on her clothes.

Dipika Perumal - "Dipika" means "light", and "Perumal" means "great one". While "Perumal" 's meaning is in reference to a version of the Hindu god Vishnu, in a literal sense it is quite accurate. Miss Perumal is a great light in Reynie's life, and in the lives of the others she meets. She is a guide and a kind but truthful source of advice.

9/10 It sounds like tea being poured into a cup. A lovely name that describes her in an intimately accurate way, as well as her surname being in Tamil.

Nicholas Benedict - "Nicholas" means "victory of the people", and "Benedict" means "the blessed one", both of which are in line with his personality. He is fighting for the people of the world, and while he may not consider himself blessed, he is certainly a blessing and a benevolent figure to others.

9/10 Extremely comforting name, fits him and his intentions amazingly. It has just the right amount of whimsy while still being grounding and secure.

Nathaniel Benedict/Ledroptha Curtain - "Nathaniel" means "gift of God", and with the surname "Benedict", it is easy to see how this applies to him. He definitely believes that he is a blessing, God's gift to the world. "Ledroptha Curtain" is a whole other story. Either it seems to be his real, actual name and some crazy people named him that, or maybe he made it his legal name (the books), or he definitely made it his name, for some weird reason (the show).

5/10 I'm really pleased with whoever made the decision to make his name "Nathaniel" for the show, but I just can't condone the stupid pun that he never uses!! What was he going to use it for?? He basically never interacts with a curtain, especially because his master plan isn't really physical!!

We're including Garrison and Crawlings because I feel like they're sort of each other's counterparts? Seeing as one is show-only and the other is book-only.

Dr. Garrison - "Garrison" can be both a name and a real word, and both mean "fortress" or "stronghold". And while Garrison may be considered a stronghold of secrets, she also hides herself in many strongholds, first on the island and then in the rootcellar.

7/10 Very thematic, but I wish we had learned her first name. I feel like it could have been just a little more creative and well-fitting.

Crawlings - That's just his name. There isn't really a way to find meaning in it, especially as it's only one word. I suppose it conveys a creeping, spooky, unsettling feeling, but he just sounds odd.

?/10 I don't really know what to do with him.

And, lastly, because I felt bad for leaving him out:

Jeffers - It means "Son of Jeffery", which, in turn, means "peace" or "God's pledge". Now, this does not really refer to his personality, because he is never at peace, poor man. It may refer to his goal to keep the peace, sort of?
