The Armand/Daniel throwaway is insane because while I don’t see it as canon, (and I don’t think it’s meant to be taken as such), I do believe it makes their lore a lot richer and more poignant. Anne hit gold with them man, she really did. And in a way we’re pretty lucky. We got the best chapter OF ALL TIME written about them, followed by the weirdest, messiest breakup plans that never came to fruition, followed by a few one liners about them getting back together. Who knows what would’ve happened if she had decided to flesh out their story further and I’m scared to consider the possibilities. We know what we need to know and now the world is ours 😌
Yeah, it's not meant to be canon. Canon is anything published in the text itself. Anything else (notes, drafts) are things Anne chose not to include for whatever reason and while it can help us all inform the text if we so choose, she as a writer decided against using these in the final versions. It sure is fun though!!
AND YES IT IS INSANE!! Because even though I agree some of the dialogue does not sound like Daniel or anything he would say, their dynamic is there!! That is THEM. It's weird and it's messed up but you totally get shades of them in those notes and maybe a finished, polished version would have really done them justice. We will never know!
But you're right! We are so lucky. She really hit lightning in a bottle with Armand/Daniel. It's such a great story, they are such fascinating characters, and Devil's Minion is such a wild chapter. Their parts in QotD really tell us so much about them and how they interact and what they love about each other, even though it's so few pages.
It will always break my heart a little that Daniel was tossed aside in the final trilogy. I get that he wasn't really part of the story she was trying to tell, and that's why he gets a line here or there about being with Armand, but is otherwise not mentioned after Prince Lestat, but wow, I would have loved to see Daniel there to comfort Armand after Marius calls him a child or he bears his soul to Lestat, or any of that stuff. And of course I would have loved an actual reunion chapter beyond just "they're out hunting together." (Of course I think we got the same thing with Marius and Armand in the QotD... 😒😒)
But--and I've said this before--part of why I was scared to read the final books was a deep-seated fear that she was going to kill Daniel off. It felt like she had no use for him and I was terrified for his safety. So even though we only get a few lines about him being back with Armand, we know they've reconnected, and honestly, that's more than I had hoped for.
And the playground is ours now, absolutely! I've loved seeing how other people flesh out this stuff in fics and headcanons and art, and I love doing it myself. So while I regret the lack of Daniel in the rest of the series, there's so much potential for stories to tell, and this fandom has really stepped up to the plate on that score. 💖

God I can't get over how perfectly lacy by olivia rodrigo suits jiang cheng and wei wuxian so well? It literally drives me insane, the envy, the vague obsession, the homoroticism. I'd say the first chorus and second verse suit them most but the whole song works so well. Like jiang cheng singing the song and wei wuxian is lacy
Just God I don't know how to word it, the quiet caring, the obsession God that's all jiang cheng, and the slight sarcastic tone of "well, aren't you the greatest thing to ever exist" ain't that mummy and daddy issues jiang cheng projecting on wei wuxian just a teeny wee bit as a treat for me.
Just God, this song, as a whole, is for them.

the thing that is annoying about fem sirius is the immediate association with being short and sensitive and dramatic and many other attributed gender stereotypes not femininity on itself and it seems like a lot of the discourse around it has circled back into let men be masculine which is not the point at all

Sooo since niche media combos have once again filled my head today... what if the NKotR and friends had builds as Zombicide survivors?
To explain as survivors kill zombies they build Adrenaline Points (AP) that let them unlock more skills. These are split into 4 colors: blue is their starting skill, yellow always gives +1 action, and orange and red which you can only pick one each of at a time (example below)
Neil
+1 free Search Action
+1 Action
Lucky - Can reroll for any failed action
+1 to dice roll: Combat
Tactician - Can take turn at any order within the player phase
+1 die: Ranged
2 cocktails are better than 1 - After using up a Molotov (strongest weapon), can reroll for a chance at another one
Kevin
Sprint - Can move 2-3 zones with one move action
+1 Action
Search: 2 cards
Tough - Ignores the first wound received and friendly fire
Brother in Arms: +1 free Combat Action - When standing in the same zone as another survivor, both receive this effect
+1 to dice roll: Melee
Ambidextrous - Can dual-wield any weapon
Ryan
Steady hand - Ignore survivors of your choice when missing a ranged attack (friendly fire)
+1 Action
+1 die: Melee
+1 die: Ranged
Medic - At end of each turn, all survivors within the same zone heal one wound
+1 free Combat Action
Reaper: Combat - One successful attack per turn can take out two identical zombies
Mitch
Born leader - Can give another survivor an extra turn
+1 Action
+1 Damage: Ranged
Sidestep - Can move to an adjacent zone if a zombie spawns in close range
+1 free Move Action
Sniper - Freely chooses targets of each attack
+1 die: Ranged
Max
Starts with a Kukri
+1 Action
Break-in - Can open doors without equipment or making noise
+1 Damage: Melee
Escalation: Melee - More dice given for consecutive attacks
Is That All You’ve Got? - Discard an equipment to negate a wound
+1 free Combat Action
Wendy
Slippery - Can slip past a zombie-occupied zone without using extra move actions
+1 Action
+1 max Range
+1 free Search Action
+1 to dice roll: Ranged
Field medic - Can move up to a zone with a survivor and heal one wound (including self)
Low profile - Avoids all friendly fire
Spencer
Point-blank - Can perform ranged combat from within the same zone
+1 Action
Destiny - Can ignore a received equipment and redraw for another
+1 free Move Action
+1 to dice roll: Combat
Hold your nose - Free equipment draw after the first zombie in zone is killed
Matching set - Automatically receive both pieces of dual equipment together
Daxter
Starts with 2 AP
+1 Action
Free reload - No ammo needed for reloadable weapons
+1 free Combat Action
Webbing - All equipment can be held in hand, even those in the inventory
Regeneration - Fully restore own health after every turn
+1 Damage: Melee
Mitch's and Wendy's builds focus on ranged combat while Max is all melee, and the others fall somewhere in between. Ryan is set up so you can take him in either direction. Wendy and Kevin might also be good at covering a lot of ground to act as support

My big thing rn is the twink from MW (I think Yuki’s his name?) shares a lot of traits with Rock and was probably modeled off of him so I wanna like read it and apply relevant info to my lore but he’s a victim of CSA. Which admittedly is a trigger for me which is why I’ve been putting that manga off but…. I think that matches up with Rock’s behavior too. I don’t want people to think I just tacked that on there for shock value and obviously I’m not gonna be like writing that out in graphic detail so it’s like how do I make that relevant without upsetting anyone on tumblr dot com is the Q…

somebody's probably already talked about this but i cant get that fucking mountain goats post outta my head and ive been talking to myself about love as a central theme of frankly most art but especially the art i love the most and i got to undertale and i need to talk about it
god it's all about love. wanting love, not wanting to lose it, grief, hope, determination, it's all fucking love in like 8 different hats. it's the monsters' love they show you (the mercy they show you) that allows frisk to help them get their freedom, it's the player's love for them that brings mercy in the first place, it's all fucking love.
flowey only got his power to reset from dying with his sibling after an act of love for them and you know what he did? he spent years of his life interacting with the people and world as much as he could, in as many ways as possible. he loved being with them and wanted to experience everything because everything was worthwhile to him because of love. and that greed for love led to oversaturation, led to boredom, led to him hurting people to feel anything in that absence of love. he never stopped loving chara, y'know? he was always looking for someone else to play with, someone who could make him feel like nothing had happened. so much so that he follows frisk throughout the underground, insists on keeping them and you there as much as possible, both bitter and needy. and he has to admit that frisk isn't chara to move on. you're not them. they're gone. asriel's gone, too, or will be after this. it's love for chara that leads him to break the barrier, as it was for asgore to try and stop you, and for toriel to take you in at the beginning and the end. it was the desire for love that kept him from letting go, and that caused him to harm so many, as it was for alphys, undyne, asgore, toriel, etc. him, arguably more than anyone else, hurt people out of desire for love and grief over it. and it's him acknowledging that desire and letting it go when it hurts people that sets everyone free.
it is love that makes you go back through the underground, calling papyrus and undyne and toriel in every room just to see their different responses. it is love that leads you to check everywhere before finally ending the game. it is love that leads you back to where your friends are standing, talking about how they've been changed by you, about how the love between you has led to this. it's love that makes you end it to see them happy, and curiosity (which in this case is often just greed for love) to some extent.
and it is love and greed for it that brings you to the reset screen. and flowey, whose desire for love almost consumed everything, that kept the people he loved from their happy endings, from their futures, that asks you to reconsider. having seen all you have, having seen his mistakes, and how happy your friends are now, are you willing to put your desire for love above their happiness? above their freedom? will you make the same choice as him after seeing what harm it caused, after finally getting what you wanted? because whatever reason for resetting you have, it'd probably boil down to love in some way. love for the characters, for the game (experience or lore), etc.
flowey's downfall, to some extent, was in the apathy that came from overconsumption. instead of cherishing the life he had, he had to know the rest. he couldn't let it lie, couldn't find peace about it and move on. he had one life, as do you, as do (in theory) these characters, one you would at that point snatch from them by resetting. flowey's asking you to think twice about whether or not you want to control them, to play with their lives for your own happiness. even if it is out of love.
because it always is.
