Much as I have great fondness for the wheel of time, but, the map, or rather the continent of Randland is kinda crap, it's just a massive lump of countries, so many of them are landlocked, it's a cohesive shape, it's got a few tiny peninsulas and that's it
the Seanchan continent is a much more interesting landmass

You know who is an absolutely underrated character in Rings of Power?
THEO
People need to be showing more appreciation for my SON-
Tumblr media
He's such an important character but I feel like most people brush him over. Theo is brave and strong, and even though he's still just a kid, he understands the weight of the relic, the broken sword, that he found, and the evil it holds. He is impulsive, as many young boys are, but he learns and grows from it.
That's why the scenes where he's with Galadriel are some of my favorites. Because they are so similar to each other. Both are angry and confused, but also full of justice and a sense of what's right, even when they go about it in the wrong ways sometimes. Theo helps Galadriel see her actions for what they are, and Galadriel shows Theo how to make the right choices in the face of fear and stand up for light against the darkness. Without Theo, we wouldn't have those parallels.
Theo is a good kid who got wrapped up in a bad situation, a war against evil, but it brings him closer to his mother, and to Arondir, who he realizes is a part of his family too. It brings him closer to Galadriel, a new companion, a comrade in battle. And he allows Galadriel to process her emotions through the eyes of one much younger. It is almost like she sees a bit of herself in Theo. A bit of the small, young elf who made paper boats to sail in the stream and was so frustrated with the evil in the world, the evil in herself, even from the beginning. The one who made a grave mistake and now must face the consequences, as seen in their discussion about whether or not their current downfall is her fault. Theo doesn't believe she is the one to blame, even when she does. I don't know, there's just something so pure, so understanding about Theo when he speaks to Galadriel. He doesn't see her like everyone else does.
Theo makes mistakes, he is tempted by darkness like all humans are, but he stands up to it. He is brave, even though he's young, which is an important sentiment to me, especially in a world full of immortals, those with long lives. No matter how long you have been on the earth or how much experience you have in the world, you can see the darkness and either choose it or the light. I think Theo demonstrates this well and we need to show him appreciation for it. I really hope we get to see more of him in the coming seasons of The Rings of Power.

man i fucking love idiom butchering (malapropism i think??) or to just completely mess up the order of words, so people completely understand you, but still double take.

Honestly the "this Shonen protagonist vs this Shonen protagonist, who would win" is so boring to me, it is.
It gets played out when people will go back and forth trying to explain why this protagonist would win, insults get thrown, etc.
It's like ship wars.
Instead, I like to think about how amusing it would be if Shonen protagonists switched places or something.
Like... imagine one protagonist handling another's biggest enemy with ease and telling the other one about it.
"Bro, it took like two punches."
"Oh my gosh. Thank you so much! Now I can just worry about my grades! I gotta graduate, you know!"
Like, a lot of the protagonists could relate to each other since some of them be high schoolers!
If they did do competitions, it wouldn't even like out of malice. Just friendly competition... and accidents.
"I did not mean to break your arm!"
"Ha, I'm used to it! No big deal!"
"WHAT?"
This is just me and I'm just saying, arguing about "who would win" is just so boring to me because what point is being made here? Where's the fun in that?
Yeah, who would win, but like... do you also know how vague that is?
Who would win in what? A tennis match? Jeopardy?
Also, consider the different elements that play into it! Settings, how their powers work, etc.
Seriously, open minds!

I did a tier list of the main characters to help think through how I feel about them so I figured I'd go ahead and post it.
Tumblr media
Each level is equal.
The levels are all super close so even though Kai is my least favorite of the bunch I still like and enjoy his character.

I think there's no greater indication that disco elysium is sympathetic towards communism when it literally says "communism is failure" and then the literal gameplay itself rewards trying and failing. The most obvious one being the Shivers check at the FELD mural, which is an Impossible 20 check BUT opens itself up again and again the longer you spend in the world doing things, but even just looking at sheer probabilities, for any given white check, rolling first and THEN putting a point into that skill upon failure is more likely to grant you success than putting a point first and then rolling, but that would require failing first.
Other things too: Precarious world saying you'll 100% fail red checks no matter what (not necessarily a bad thing, btw!! throwing the boule into the sea is a success but like. in some other ways one would want a perfect petanque throw instead. but people wouldn't typically assume that failure is desirable sometimes from the start) persuading you to accept that you'll fail some things that is irrevocable, for a world where everything is just a tiny bit easier.
The faux game over screen when you faint after reading Dora's letter— emulating a sense of failure on the scale of the entire game. When it rolls up most people go "What?? Game over?? No way, what did I do wrong!!" and waking up after that, with no huge or lasting impact on Harry's health or morale really tells the player, "Sometimes things will seem so bad that it all seems like it's coming to an end, but it's not the end, it's really not the end, go drink so water, you can still go on despite this failure"
I'm sure there are other things as well that are eluding me but like. The literal gameplay rewards failing and succeeding far more so than simply succeeding every single time, and I think you get a fuller experience of Elysium that way too
