Have you played RUNEQUEST ?
By Steve Perrin, Ray Turney, Steve Henderson, and Warren James
Tumblr media
The grand daddy of d% based RPGs, RuneQuest is a fantasy role-playing set in Greg Stafford's original fantasy setting of Glorantha and the game that would serve as the basis for Chaosium's Basic Roleplaying system that powers games such as Call of Cthulhu and King Arthur Pendragon.
Glorantha is a bronze age setting that operates on mythic logic: the world is still young, since time only began relatively recently as a result of a cataclysmic theomachy, and many of the founding myths that shape the world are not just myths but the literal truth. The Hero Wars time period of at least the first and second editions of the game was centered largely on the region of Dragon Pass, which also appeared in the cool as hell video game King of Dragon Pass.
As a game RuneQuest is clearly a reaction to early Dungeons & Dragons in many ways: characters advance organically by training or learning skills through use, magic isn't arbitrarily restricted by "class," and combat is notably less abstract and more blow-by-blow than in D&D. There is also an attempt to integrate the setting very strongly with the mechanics, aptly demonstrated by the various organizations and cults characters can join to unlock new avenues of advancement.

Does (did?) Duane ever cast out loud? Would there even be a reason to outside of demonstrating to his students? I would imagine casting silently would be habit for him due to the advantages.
Sure. He cast aloud in his first fight against Quigley, to mislead him. Sometimes he casts aloud if he finds the language of the spell beautiful and just wants to say it and hear it. Sometimes he wants to sing it, which is a style of casting some wrights utilise to keep track of more complicated spells that have several different functions within them. Assigning each section different melodies, pitch, and rhythm can help a wright keep track as the spellsong progresses.

I'd also say it felt like an ending, maybe and hopefully not the ending, but definitely an ending
what with the Covenant hopefully dealt with at least for a good long while
I guess Leonard is still knocking around, he might try and bother Annie again
speaking of which I'd like to see both her and James grow into powerful sorcerers hopefully with the help of Thomas
I'd love to see more of Sally
nevermind the whole business with Artie/Arther, who knows where that could go
Mark is still in a coma/metamorphosing, he could wake up really any time
IMO plenty more stories to tell in the series, at least from a reader's POV, but Aftermarket Afterlife definitely felt like an ending
finished Aftermarket Afterlife and uh I'm gonna need a moment

The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.
Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”

Out of curiosity and also guilt over my own coffee intake. I wanna ask:
Now I'm not talking about when you're studying and so you drink 3x the usual amount or something like that. This isn't me asking what your record is. I'm talking about the most basic, average day, how many coffees you drink?
