Found an old issue of Nintendo Power while excavating my bedroom. While it focused more on Sacred Stones since it was coming out sooner, it did have this page previewing Path of Radiance (it might the first time the west got to see it? not too sure).

Struck me as kinda odd that they didn't show off any identifiably non-human characters here despite both this page and the Sacred Stones pages placing some emphasis on each game being completely new worlds (probably to make them seem more accessible to newcomers). The FE8 section even goes out of its way to point out 'hey there's now a playable Manakete isn't that cool' so maybe they didn't want to shift attention too far away from fe8 since it was releasing first?

yknow, a lot of people say that they wish SJM had just invented a new character to be Rhys' love interest for the Acotar sequel or paired him off with Nesta or something, but I actually think she shouldve gone further and just made Feyre get with a different high lord every book. Just imagine:

ACOTAR 1: Feyre/Tamlin, Feyre recovers from her childhood trauma but then oopsie, UTM happens and now shes got a bunch of new trauma oh noooooo

ACOTAR 2: Feyre/Rhysand, Feyre recovers from her UTM and also learns about feminism and how to fight good, I would prefer if instead of ignoring the part Rhysand played in her trauma like in canon, they actually leaned into it and made it so that Feyre reconciling with Rhysand and even falling for him was somehow symbolic for her reconciling with her UTM trauma

ACOTAR 3: Feyre/Tarquin, Feyre learns how to politics and maybe she learns about the injustices that the common faeries have to deal with as well, maybe there couldve been some seeds planted for this in ACOTAR 2 with the illyrians but she was too busy wth her trauma to deal with it at that point, but now shes ready

ACOTAR 4: Feyre/Eris, Feyre helps Eris with his political machinations culminating with her helping him kill his dad and become high lord, and its kind of a foil to the previous book where Feyre was doing like normal politics with a good guy but now shes doing fucked up and evil politics with a morally gray guy. Also, i havent met Eris yet but I do know that hes racist in canon so maybe we could have a subplot where Feyre helps him with that idk. helps him get over his racism i mean, not helps him to be more racist

I dont know enough about the other guys yet to come up with potential plots for their books, but in my perfect world they would all definitely get one

The final book would be Feyre getting together with one of the super powerful non-court fae like one of those freaks who lives in the middle like the weaver or something, except it has to be one of the male freaks because its a SJM book and we cant have a queer MC. So I guess that limits our selection to Koschei maybe? I actually dont know anything about that guy other than he exists, is he hot? cuz if hes not hot then we can strike him out imo. Then theres that demon-god that sent Nesta a horny vision in ACOSF I think his name was Lanthys, and I know for a fact that hes conventionally attractive so thats our first candidate. I actually quite like the idea of Feyre getting with Suriel and the way that would work is that it would be this reoccurring character that appears atleast once in each book when Feyre needs some information and she goes to catch it, and at the start of this last book shes just broken up with her latest high lord and shes like "that suriel has helped me so many times, I should do something kind for it" so she does that and theres this very fairytale-esque moment where it turns out this is the first time someone showed it a genuine act of selfless kindness to the suriel, and that causes it to transform into a really hot guy. And then Feyre and the Suriel start their grand romance

Also, I just realized if we wanted to keep with the theme of Feyre falling in love with a powerful fae* from a specific court, the capital p Prison island is described as almost being like its own court, so maybe Feyre could get with the Bone Carver which would be great because he can transform into like, the hottest of hot guys if he wanted to

So yeah, thats my pitch for an alternate ACOTAR Series. Would it be good? No. Would it be fun? Yeah, I think so. Certainly more fun than the series we currently have where we mostly just hang out in the same boring city with the same annoying guys

movie1 had a little too much diana characterization disease for me to enjoy her. but that's so common its barely worth leveraging as Specific To This Movie. and i feel like she barely talked in movie2 so jury's still out on that. but of course there's a fair bit of wriggle room for the dc characters (in movie1 especially) as well given the "its a random ass crossover so the meta stakes have never been lower + they all got Genuine Teenager Brain for the whole first movie anyway"

movie2 had some pretty cool animation moments that i really noticed. movie1 wasnt like Awful but movie2 was the one where i perked up like "oh, that animation looked cool", you know? also i really liked the models they made for team rwby. the stylization felt nicely balanced to me?...if that makes sense. i hope we can see more models like them in the future just for me. idc who uses them but its my christmas wish RT please

then she went to Dorian cause he was the prince saving her in her damsel in distress kind of situation (most non-violent way to describe her condition in Endovier cause it ain’t anywhere near a salt mine or salve camp- it’s just a mass torturing labour intensive capitalism) then she realises OH ! He belongs to a bloodline who butchered and slaughtered my people ! NO ! I SHOULD NOT BE WITH HIM ! At the same time.. ohhh the caption of guard is one brooding male.. I like him !

And after a while of fooling she went ! NO ! NOT YOU ! You are scared of real me ( I am going to ignore all of your red flags and focus on the most highlighted action of yours for breakup! ) and gave him eye of elena, which -

Something you said about how Jay and LD should’ve stayed in their own worlds just made me realize— the last two episodes of Fionna and Cake contradict the show’s own messages so much. Fionna and Cake have to— way too suddenly and not with any of their problems being addressed— accept their flawed reality and learn to live with and improve it, but Jay and LD can just ditch their flawed reality to go live in a better one.

Fionna and Cake need to accept this lesson partly because they shouldn’t change, and hurt, the people around them, but Jay and LD can just ditch everyone they know, hurting them. And the lesson implies that this isn’t the answer for Fionna and Cake but IS the answer for Jay and LD because their world is just too bad, so why is everyone else in their world doomed to suffer?

Betty and Simon were toxic and unhealthy because Betty sacrificed too much for Simon, even though Simon never actually made her do it, and it seems more like Betty herself just had a sacrificial view of relationships. Still— all totally Simon’s fault and he should’ve made her not be able to choose sacrificing her trip and parts of her career out of her own free will. (Even though every time he argued with her sacrifices, like telling her she ought to take credit for a find, she turned him down multiple times, and he didn’t know she wanted the trip more than to stay because the letter didn’t give him that impression.)

But Gary sacrificing a big part of his baking career for Marshall out of his own free will was totally fine and healthy and sweet, and never is it suggested that Marshall should’ve just known that Gary secretly didn’t want to, and stopped him.

It’s so contradictory and confused. It’s just accidentally highlighting all the missing pieces.

ok so the spaghetti like represents a lot of things. it brings the family together despite bad things happening. it brings them joy. but then they find out that this product that is bringing them so much happiness actually comes from a direct result of unhappiness, depression, and ultimately a person's suicide. they're eating the body of a person who killed themselves. i suppose the question then is: is it worth it to continue enjoying something that makes you happy even if it's something you consider wrong? rick considers the spaghetti guilt free, so his answer is yes, prioritising his own pleasure. but morty's answer is no, and he seeks to solve it.

he wants to learn the names of the ppl he's been eating in an attempt to humanise them and get closure, but isn't satisfied even then. he goes to the funeral of their most recent victim and tells the people there about what they were doing, to get it off his chest.

interestingly, the family are more upset over not having their spaghetti night anymore than the fact they've been eating people and are angrier at morty than rick.

the government then invites morty back to the planet to get his full statement on everything he's doing. they serve him a plate of human spaghetti and tell him it's okay bc the person who it came from consented to being eaten. morty says this makes it go down easier and they realise they have a product bc of how delicious it is. they start selling it on a large scale under the brand name "morty-o's suicide spaghetti."

then this episode turns into a critique on capitalism and consumerism and potentially cannibalism? in the way it kinda explores the argument that cannibalism is the only ethical way to consume meat. the government of the world rick was stealing bodies from is now using morty to indirectly act like the frontman to advertising spaghetti as a product. this makes the planet start to commodify their ppl's pain. literally. they make ppl more miserable to cause more suicides so they can make more product to sell more money.

morty decides this is unacceptable and seeks a solution. he tells rick that if he gets help, he won't look for the moral flaws in rick's deeds ever again. rick agrees and manufactures a creature that is almost a person but is basically created just to kill themselves and become spaghetti. they seem to be okay with this option, until it's ruined by protestors and they're back to square one.

then my leadt favourite part of the episode. morty remembers rick can synthesise anything he gets a sample of which HE OR RICK SHOULDVE REMEMBERED SOONER BEFORE SO MANY PPL DIED. IDC HOW NAIVE YOURE TRYING TO MAKE MORTY OUT TO BE HERE HES FUCKING NOT ANYMORE SO ALL OF THE PPL WHO HAVE DIED IN THIS FUCKING EPISODE AFTER THE MORTY-'O'S DISCOVERY IS FUCKING ON FHEM.

but there's only one person left who would probably kill themselves and the only way they're able to convince him to follow through is to present him an opportunity to end the spaghetti trade forever. and so he agrees. he goes into a euthanasia chamber and presses a button, rick grabs everyone's attention and broadcasts this guys entire life history to everyone so they can see the intrinsic value of life, the beauty of individuality and lived experiences. then everyone's finally grossed out by the spaghetti and put off it forever. no more spaghetti.

rick points out that it's not these ppl's deaths that made the spaghetti distasteful but the complexity of life, and i think that's basically the thesis statement of this episode. that and the fact that not everything is black and white, even if morty desperately wants them to be. he learns grey areas are sometimes acceptable.

favourite scene is the ending when rick is teasing them.

idk not the biggest fan of this episode. i think it had smth to say but missed the mark. this is just me reading into everything and trying to make sense of this. fucking dark even for this show, even for my tastes.

my lack of geography knowledge has come back to bite me my seminar teacher has decided that since the actual class is over hes gonna teach us the social studies shit that we shouldve learned in like 4th grade and today he had us fill out maps (thank god he didnt ask us to label states) which like kinda got the mountain ranges got the rivers he asked for (protip its just the wobbly state borders) but apparently i only know like 5 state capitols and i had to ask multiple times where colorado is (and i called it vermont at least once). also apparently i just dont know where hawaii is?? like at all? hate that a canadian knows more us geography than me

what’s powering this whole Angel/demon system? Are humans a part of it? Is god harvesting humans for sin and regret?

tbh i prefer to leave the more like blatantly theological aspects a lil ambiguous for funsies and to leave things open to interpretation but the gist is that, regardless of what the objective Truth may be, angels are beings who believe themselves to be the messengers, architects, and when necessary, soldiers of capital g god.

but new orders havent been coming in for a looong time, so angels, being sort of singleminded beings by nature, have just sort of been retreading the same ground over and over since bible times. studying the scripture, spreading messages of love and light, polishing up the ol holy swords in preparation for the day they are called to use them at last, etc etc etccc. its like if you combined a nun with a doomsday prepper. theres also the matter of the angel hierarchy that dictates who exactly does what to keep celestial society running on like an internal level but thats the basic vibe.

angels mostly exist within the celestial realm but they have outposts in the mortal realm as well (because demons started setting up shop there and they didnt want to be shown up). while angels are only supposed to go to earth for business purposes, theres not always a whole lot of oversight on their activities and in modern times there are plenty who are just kinda. living normal lives amongst humankind.

and in the other corner, demons. contrary to common belief, they are not all or even mostly fallen angels. theyre their own thing, occupants of the infernal realm and dealers in human misery and avarice. back in ye olde days it was just you know every once in a while one of these funney little guys with pop in the mortal realm to fuck with humans or trick them into selling their soul for a piddling bit of magic or whatever, but over time they industrialized and now hell is a massive sprawling enterprise with a highly competitive and highly confusing economic system and no clear idea who is at the top.

its an mlm. its just literally a really big slightly more evil than normal mlm scheme.

angels and demons have had beef from the very beginning, not least of all because team infernal keeps bringing those angels who cant stay the path over to their side, but also just about every non-infernal beastie in existence thinks devils are kind of a bunch of little yuppie shits. actually, neither side is particularly well liked by the rest of creature-kind come to think of it.

btw shouldve mentioned earlier but humanity in this world is like. vaguely aware of the paranormal and such. angels are more of a rarity because one of the many many rules they abide by forbids them from doing anything that could bring harm to humans (gods specialest little guys) which over time, following several Incidents, has been expanded to mean "dont reveal yourself to humans or ideally even interact with them unless absolutely necessary", meanwhile demons whole deal kind of requires direct interaction. they might keep the horns under wraps until theyve got your signature for obvious reasons, but at this point everyones got a cousins best friends uncle who did some shady shit at a crossroads and came back with a crazy story and a blurry photo of some cloven hooves or smth.

tldr god is not rly a factor here. demons deal in mortal souls for power and promotions back in hell and angels intervene wherever they can. otherwise everyones just kinda doing their own thing. its more in line with like the pop culture tradition of angels and demons as fantasy creatures of a kind more than anything specifically religious, though i think its sort of impossible and tbh kind of boring to try and avoid all the source mythology.

I am over all the violence I got from winter and other Black folk on here, nothing to do about it and no point in dwelling it all either. ok here it is my thoughts on heretics of dune [SPOILERS]

other than that very good it asks very important questions like what if we removed two letters from arrakis wouldnt that be fucked up? and honestly it would tbh if i were mother superior of the bene gessirit and that happened i would also plot to destroy rakis. teg is cool i like to imagine that hes kinda what leto i could’ve been under better circumstances. hes like the pinnacle of the atreides ability to get people fanatically loyal to him half of his plot at the end is him just going around gammu and random ppl being like “hey bashar u saved us at [insert battle that took place] if u need me to die for u dont hesitate to ask.” this is cool and probably ties into herberts themes abt how charismatic leaders are evil but idk teg seems like a good person so maybe charismatic leaders are awesome and herbert was baiting us the last time. anyway herberts anti-government and anti-powerful ppl stance comes out a lot more here. both teg and taraza comment on power at points teg thinking something about how domination makes both the dominant and the subservient like soulless or some shit i forget 😔 and taraza talking to i think sheeana abt how dominating forces always create a counterforce - ie a rebelion or revolution of some kind. these are both moments i will say that. i added commentary there shut up.

i like how throughout the dune series frank herbert is able to examine the different ways power is enforced and critique them regardless of how such power is represented. for example the atreides rule by building a sense of trust and fanatic loyalty among those they rule, and that fanatic loyalty is a tool they use to establish hegemony and maintain power. in heretics the honored matres are introduced who “rule through sex” this could potentially be an analogy for pleasure in general i think. evidence? shut up shut up shut up. anyway if so it could very much be about consumption and consumerism as a tool to establish hegemony. theres probably an essay abt capitalism to be had there. unfortunately shut up.

there was one last thing i wanted to touch on: someone needs to find where the tleilaxu keep all their duncan cells and set off an atomic device there. it would be better for everyone.
