Just noticed that Ed's hand movement around Stede's neck and shoulders in the Season 1 beach kiss is repeated in Calypso's Birthday, but with important differences.
The first is very much in keeping with the tentative nature of the kiss and their relationship. Ed surprises Stede, they've never kissed before, and he likely doesn't know how it's going to be received. He puts his arms around Stede, but very gently and carefully. There's not much movement to his hand, and then he lets it drop onto Stede's back, rather than cradling his head. It's not leading to sex; it's an expression of attraction and establishing their feelings for each other, and Ed is very gentle and tenuous about it.
He also doesn't push anything too far. He's touching Stede, but he's not holding him, and Stede could pull away if he wanted to.

The second is very much a precursor to sex. Ed moves his hand, finger by finger, up Stede's neck, until his thumb strokes his ear. This is a reciprocal kiss; they want each other, and they're not uncertain about the other's feelings or desires. Nothing about it is tentative; it's escalating the moment, with total consent from both partners.
It's also a deeply protective gesture - Ed has seen Stede tortured and is reassuring himself that Stede is there, alive, in his arms, and he can touch him and keep him safe in a way he couldn't when his arms were tied.
Tumblr media
They're not perfect kisses - the first is a little awkward and uncertain, and Ed doesn't move either of his hands much, like he's afraid if he moves, Stede will shatter. It's the beginnings of intimacy. The second is much more intense and physical, more clinging, and the repetition of Ed's hand movement is to bring Stede closer and give them both reassurance. But it's still inherently sweet and loving; this isn't so much "fuck" as "make love."
I love that this show does actually expand on the characters' intimacy with each other and lets their relationship, and how they express their feelings, deepen over time. Little things like the placement of their hands actually change the tone of the scene and show their care for each other in different ways.
Also, they're just really hot.

I have absolutely no evidence to support this, but I'm 100%, unshakeably convinced that in any modern AU, Stede would text with a ton of emojis (to add character and whimsy) and overuse elipses, and Ed would text in all caps all of the time. So your average conversation between them would look like:
Stede: Hi love...do you want to go to the pier for lunch? 😁🥰😋🏖 They have those hotdogs you like...🌭🌭🌭
Ed: SOUNDS GOOD XX I JUST SAW A SEAGULL
Stede: Buttons...???!!! 😲🤨🌊

Ned having multiple angry outbursts throughout AGOT, even physically assaulting someone at one point, and still being viewed as the "calm and collected" counterpart to a "feral" Catelyn perfectly encapsulates this fandom's misogyny

I need to make Monk gifs, but what really wrecks me is that he *loves* the physical comfort from people, when he can relax enough to accept it... I bet, before Trudy's death, Monk and Leland were more physical, since even after all the trauma Monk still goes for him for physical comfort: hugs, hand touches, just general "please hold me"...

It’s so hard to explain the appeal Sunny has for me to someone who hasn’t experienced the brain rot themselves because yes, it’s a very funny show, but in a way most people wouldn’t associate with me/my usual interests, so they’re scrambling to reevaluate their perceptions and figure out what exactly about it I do like, and when they try to recommend me “similar” media, they end up honing in on all the wrong things because the thing is they were right the first time about me, this type of humour usually isn’t my cup of tea at all and when other shows do it, it’s never going to hit the same because it’s not the same. People think Sunny is one thing, and sometimes it is, but it’s also a million others. It’s a comedy, it’s a tragedy, it’s a silly show with fun silly jokes and it’s an in depth character study of people with different kinds of trauma, and it never compromises or sacrifices one for the other, it just is. They do all these seemingly wild and ridiculous things, yet they always have a reason. They also make horrible or horrific decisions and do terrible things, but it doesn’t try to justify them, and it’s usually not just for the sake of being horrible (or the creator wanting to have a medium to be horrible.) Most of the time they’re more clueless than cruel, not self aware while the narrative and audience are (or are supposed to be), but more importantly, most of the time, they’re really truly just... human. Even when things get cartoonishly out of hand, they are just so ridiculously painfully flawed and messed up and over feeling and human, it hurts. And it drives me up the wall because yeah they also had an entire episode about finding out who pooped the bed! And any other number of weird ass plots and dick jokes and lists of crimes! But sometimes mixing a little bit of silliness and stupidity among the horrors and vice versa is the most incredibly human thing of all.
But uh... try saying that to a normal person without them looking at you like you’ve grown two heads because idk maybe you have, maybe the radioactive sound waves they emit through your screen while watching the show have finally transformed you, but two heads means two brains, which means more brain power to analyze all the nuance of it, so either way !!!!

i know theres no overlap between the ofmd and the metal gear fandoms bc the izzyhaters would all kill themselves if they caught a glimpse of the revolver ocelot fanbase. i promise you izzy is not nearly the evillest old queen getting scrunklified and babygirled despite crimes against therapyspeak twitter out here. literally my last war criminal boyfriend hypnotised my other war criminal boyfriend into commiting rpf identity fraud of his own, separate war criminal boyfriend. Among Other Things.
