honestly, I was going to wait until I posted at least the ninth chapter in a sense, but I couldn't wait plus this piece have been screwing with me since I finished like a month ago...
the rendering also screwed me up because I added color burn on 100%.... I needed to recover from that, because holy shit, I scared myself of how I managed to make him scarier than intended...

4t3 Conversion: Littledica Soft Tummy Overlay (Accessory)
I really wanted to give my sims some soft bellies without removing all their muscle and vein definition.
To show the before-and-after effect, my sims in the pictures have the muscle definition slider set to 100%.
Details:
accessory (sock section) with custom thumbnail
for male sims only - the female body is uv-mapped a bit differently and I am lazy ok
this accessory layers on top of the skin, but underneath body hair
1 recolourable channel
3 presets from strong to medium opacity
texture blends in best with maxis match skins

Matching the colour to your sim's skin tone exactly can be tricky, so you might have to switch between live mode and CAS a few times to get it right. You can see I left it a bit too light on Rainer in one of the pics butt fuck it
The ab muscle definition might still appear visible in CAS with this accessory on, but it will be covered up in live mode.
This accessory goes great with the torso mesh edits in my downloads btw 💋

OK heres zeno coloring tutorial 2.0 !!!! i'm gonna do it kind of in chapters i guess?
chapter 1: choosing base colors
when i'm choosing base colors i always pick everything based on a specific off-white! my 'default' off-white is this kind of very light cyan color but i change it regularly based on character designs/environment/lighting whatever,, examples here!
for callie in this piece, i based everything off of this pinkish color! her skin tone, tentacles, outfit etc are all chosen to harmonise/contrast with the pink color
and with this piece, i used a slightly darker blueish color as they're in space but there's still a lot of light... and the lighter colors in the background (the explosion) make a sense of depth i guess? i used that blue color and chose similar cool colors to harmonise with it!
so i more or less base the tone of the colors in the piece off the off-white! warm off-white = warmer colors (like the nova valentine's day art) and cold off white = cooler colors (like the explosion nova and paro art). but i switch up this formula often !!
chapter 2: coloring specific things
here i'll go over some specific textures and stuff like skin and hair ... skin first !!
for skin, i like to use a variety of tones! there are different ways to draw cooler and warmer skintones that other people have gone over way better than i have but basically for skin i use this part of the color wheel and pick the darker tones of oranges/reds/pinks etc. (for darker skintones, i go to the middle of the color square thingy, and for lighter tones, i usually slide down the upper-right side)
when it comes to shading skintones, it's pretty straightforward, just a darkish-purple and a pinkish color on 100% multiply, and i always add a little shadow on the nose and blush becuz i think it's cute
(also i like to add reflective spots on darker skin tones sometimes because 1. darker skin tones reflect in real life and 2. it's fun)
next up is hair... this is very specific to my artstyle but i like to add 3-6 long oval line thingies to the hair to mimic reflection ! it looks cool, it's a good way to show off different colors in the design and i like to switch it up sometimes based on a character's personality!! (like how the frye pic above has a lighting bolt shaped hair thing, or how my teto design has a wing shaped hair thing to mimic her wings in her chimera form!) (note: it doesn't always need to be lighter than the actually hair color and it usually isn't)
for other materials like metal, screens, etc etc... i just add random X marks lol... and reflections!!!
(also, just a general thing, but adding little saturated lines to shading really adds depth and color imo!!)
i would put more tips with refs but tumbles only allows 10 images per post ;w; so i will simply close off by saying don't be afraid to add overlays and filters to your art!! overlays can really help harmonise colors and filters like brightness and contrast can help colors pop... try not to completely rely on them for color choice tho!!
and that's basically it !!! this is not a definitive 'how to draw/color' post... i am not a color theorist... i just wanted to show people how i choose colors cuz a lot of people say they like my color choices! honestly i don't know much myself but i hope that this and the philosophy of 'do what looks good' will help you all o_ob thank you and goodbye

Yo! Do you have any notes/tips for your coloring process? I've always had trouble with that part of drawings looking good lmao and I really like yours! If not for your specific style, do you have any tips with that in general?
Iv gotten a few asks about how I color but iv always avoided answering because
A) I am absolutely awful at explaining things, and
B) I am a very Very lazy artist you should probably Not do the things that I do
BUT i feel bad gatekeeping(?) my horrible technique if it helps anybody ig ill try and explain so

line art of a random character for the example, just pic whatever colors you have in mind for your base colors, you can try using palette generators or basing it off of existing palettes/characters/whatever I have absolutely no idea how color theory works (& this is why you shouldnt listen to me) so im solely going off of vibes. but it is Rough so onto step 2 & 3
(edit to add i usually start off with the skin hair & clothes on separate clipping layers and merge them together towards the end.. i think i forgot to say that at all here oops)
I abuse the hellll out of layer blending modes. overlay, saturation & multiply mainly, but also difference, brightness & screen. (just doodle something & try all of em out to get a feel for them honestly ik theres a Lot and they can be intimidating) for this i just wanted a more cohesive warmer tone to start with so i added a peachy overlay & a slight ombré to the hair to add a bit more interest to the character.
then just the most basic of rendering, some blush & highlights just wherever i think theyd go.
Another thing they tell you Not to do, my next step is to block out all my shading in a vaguely purpleish multiply layer!!! i cant be assed to do it any other way im sorry…. once i have the basic shading down, i lock the layer & go in with air brush eraser & also airbrush in other colors wherever I think the purple is maybe too harsh/clashing
still wasnt 100% happy with the colors so messed around with some more layer filter/modes/whatever you call them then colored in my line art! i think this is honestly the saving grace for all of my art shshsdhhf color your lines people. doesnt have to be all (i dont, i like the contrast) but it usually helps to make some at least a little less harsh
then with a little more color tweaking im done! one random sleepy dude, fully colored (by my standards)
and then if a piece needs more dramatic lighting you justttt
im so serious play around with layer settings! these are just basic multiply & add(glow), there as so many others you can abuse the shit out of & nobody will know or care in your finished piece.

I’m actually not a huge fan of this mod due to it being outdated and requiring like 7 other outdated mods to work, but it allows you to add various ballistic weaves to this outfit(along with Furby’s other mods, and basically everything else) which makes it stupidly resistant to everything. Tiny shorts and a crop top with no armor absolutely can and should have 100+ damage resistance, thank you very much.

A training sword, loosely based on the Gjermundbu finds.
The finds themselves would be well worth an entire story, but the excellent people at the @Kulturhistorisk Museum in Norway did it better than I ever would (accession number C27317a), so for now all I'll say is that this sword is meant to be part of a full kit made after this very interesting grave from the second half of the Xth century.
The sword belongs to Petersen's type S, with its big trilobated pommel and upper and lower guards of a very specific shape.
While the original sword is lavishly decorated with silver and copper overlay, I opted for inlays instead, as the present object will be used in sparring (you'll find in some of my previous posts detailed pics of the process).
The blunt blade is made of shock-resistant 6150 steel for that specific purpose.
The original sword suffered some damage : ritual destruction/fire, mostly, plus the additional damage due to the discovery itself. Therefore, parts of it had to be reconstructed. This is by no means a final statement, but merely possibilities, based on known similar examples (such as the sword from Hafurbjarnastöđum).
The decoration of the pommel, for instance, is derived from that observable on the rest of the sword. The key element being, for me, the interlaced central pattern rather than the knots at each end of the guards. After inlaying and polishing, the fittings were heat-blued.
On the original sword, the pommel block is secured by means of inverted T-shaped rivets made of copper, held in a transversal slit cut in the base of the pommel ; but I chose to go for full steel rivets instead. The orignal use of these T-shaped copper things on the real sword does make sense, though.
The grip is wrapped in 0.4 mm fine silver wire, and it surprisingly provides a firm hold in the bare hand. It might also appear rather thin, but then again it is in line with other known examples. The owner will certainly be experimenting a lot with that.
Fine silver, also, for the twisted decorative thingies.
The pommel was made hollow in its central part, as on the original (I'm hugely grateful to Vegard Vike for providing the X-rays on twitter and highly detailed pics), still, with its dimensions that sword reaches a hefty 1930 g ! Point of balance is about 9 cm from the cross.
Now, Jan Petersen does not provide, in his seminal book De Norske Vikingesverd, any weight for type S swords, but he mentions a type C (IIRC) which nears the 1.8 kg mark - and which has certainly lost some mass due to corrosion. Which means that this one sword I present you here is within the possible weight range for its type.
It still makes it a dreadful shield-eater, an arm-bruiser, a denter of helmets, a Giant-slayer.
And it tells us a lot - or, rather, opens a lot of questionings - about this specific type. Because most of them were of rather similar dimensions.
The blade is 55 mm at its widest, and 815 mm long. The cross has a 120 mm span, and the grip is 100 mm long. The sword itself is 994 mm long overall.

Pikmin Tunisian crochet "tapestry"
Project dates: 2023/12/02-12/08
This started off as an offshoot of the dog sweater project [link]. I initially wanted to do a Pikmin-themed sweater while learning Tunisian crochet and in-line fair isle color changes, so I made this swatch-turned-meme tapestry using scrap worsted yarn with Tunisian straight stitch. (In particular, the variegated blue/brown/navy/white I used for the background has been sitting without a purpose for far too long.) The border is just 2 rows of dc, with 5 worked in each corner stitch.
Partial pattern is a chart from Victoria Williams on Ravelry. (The pattern includes charts for other charming Pikmin characters and poses. I'll have to come up with a project for those later!)
Text in orange is meant to say "Dandori Issue"; I remembered that the letter "M" exists in the alphabet after tying in loose ends on the project.
I decided to put it up on my wall to haunt my workspace. Whenever I lack motivation, I can look to it, think "Dandori issue," then immediately start RPing a Pikmin to complete my work (only half exaggerating).

My main complaint is that even with blocking, the tapestry shape is still far from rectangular. (There were some sections where I dropped the last stitch; it's quite visible near the base and tip of the pikmin's antenna.) Since this initially was a test swatch, I put more focus into getting more consistent stitch tension instead of doing things 100% correctly.
I don't have printer access, so I tracked the chart digitally. I put the image in CSP, and added in a grid overlay for every 10th row and column. I added another solid color layer to more easily read the row I'm currently on. (I'm sure someone has a smarter way to do this, but it's what works for me). Since the Pikmin pattern isn't mine, I've included a screenshot of my CSP project for the Good/Bad tapestry I posted recently, tracking the 8th row from the top.

100 Baby Challenge- The Life and Times of Wonton
Hi all! Sorry for the delay is getting this update out, but you know.. life. But never mind that, lets talk Wonton
He is the first of many siblings. Born from a quick fling with a hamster. Concieved in a sink. (if you don't know what I am talking about, you need to check out my last post.) He was a calm infant and received all the love and care a single mother with no other children can give. He was probably the only kid who had ALL of mom's attention.
She was able to change his diapers right away, feed him when he wasn't even that hungry, and he got a bath EVERY time he needed one. What luxury!
He grew into quite the silly toddler with a love of learning and never got in trouble. I'm sure he wanted to, but when you have all of mom's attention, its hard to find yourself with any spare time to create masterpieces on the walls with crayons or to throw mom's diamond earrings down the toilet.
Because he never experienced the thrill of toddler trouble making, he never understood why his siblings felt to need to break rules. He went around making sure everyone behaved, or he would tell on them to mom. The NERVE! He will learn the hard way that snitches get stitches.

Here he is playing marbles with his brother (with no cheating because we all know that Wonton will go tell on anyone who puts one marble out of line and and then they have to muck out the chicken coop as punishment)
As a teen, he earned the title of daredevil and loved hanging out with his bros to watch the lastest Llamas soccer game. They would look at each other after every goal and say "bro"
That's Wonton! He did his homework, and played video games, and ended up moving out to pursue a life as a police officer. With his strong sense of justice, his need for comradery with his bros, and his desire for danger, I think he will do just fine.
HOUSE KEEPING: Pictures and things may be sparce for some kiddos, but now that I have decided to make posting here a thing, I will definitely be on picture duty with this challenge. I have been playing around with poses! So quality of these posts will hopefully go up!
I love giving makeovers for my sims, but I will not do any plastic surgery and change any facial features. (I also just recently discovered skin overlays, so fun!)
Next time we will meet Wonton's brother Nachos, which you may have seen in some of these pics!
