what inspires your writing? ✨

First off, I'd like to apologize for taking so long to answer, I just honestly didn't know how to answer the question and sound smart and sophisticated at the same time so I'm just answering it now -

It's usually a pretty sudden process. A lot of times I'll be reading and a certain theme from that story will stick with me so I'll write a couple pages of an au that will likely never be finished. The same goes with songs; my playlists are dangerous now because there are about five different aus inspired by five seperate lyrics per song and whenever I hear that song now my mind goes wild with useless details like a character checking their love interest out/confessing their feelings in a midst of a battle/ sexy vibes without any ideas on how the characters got there. Thanks a lot, brain.

So what inspires my writing? Uh, other authors' good writing, my crazy brain, school deadlines, oh, and insomnia.

It’s going, thank you for asking. Took a bit of a pause to play some games that came out and are on my backlog, but still always planning and thinking about my works and how to approach them.

I actually made a playlist for the songs of the series of for my Jelsa universe fics, so that definitely keeps the inspo up. That and for my other works, of course.

13. Favorite fic from another author? (and maybe... their ship which is your fav?)

Not sure what you mean by ship! I really don't read as much as I should, frankly. Especially since I've written so much I don't leave myself enough time to consume. And a lot of the authors that imprinted on me are long deleted now. But in general, even if you don't know what they write for? Nobody writes with as much precision and punch than virusq. And if you want amazing pacing, character nuance, and showing not telling, therentyoupay is a master. And more recently, I recognize hibiscus_tea as someone with their finger on the pulse of synesthesia writing. All three I would be honored to steal some vibes from and actively try to. PLEASE read just snippets of their stuff and your guaranteed to be a better writer for it.

CONCLUSSION: 

I mostly go by screen writing rules: Time and location first. 

When I’m not following that, I’m going straight to the main character’s dominating thoughts as they’re realizing an action.

In three cases I started straight at the action itself. 

My first lines aren’t particularly riveting or engaging, but I guess they’re a good way to start a paragraph or to put the reader in the mood. 

For the lines that started with rain and snow, said elements were actually important for what was happening in the scenes and they are recurring elements. In Ramifications the three most important scenes for the characters relationship to change occur under the rain. In Accidentally, the snow is the inciting incident for the story and come on, it’s Jelsa! There has to be snow. 

After Work was one of my first fanfics back in 2007, so the line was just as cartoony as I felt the show to be back then.

The most recent one shots all go straight to the character’s thoughts, since they are supposed to be quick reads I go straight to the emotional damage. For multi chapter fics I take my time. 

All in all, I guess I’m not doing so bad after all.

Arrange marriage, God AU. While I'm making this list, I still haven't finished the fic, but I had to recommend it because is THAT good. The way I gasped out loud while reading some of the plot twists. The worldbuilding is so good, and even if you aren't into AUs that deviate a lot from cannon like me, I 100% reccomend it.

Getting stranded on a foreign planet sucked. Luckily for Nino, his rival was willing to give him a lift home. Unluckily for Nino, she was beautiful and funny and he might just be in love with her.

Gotta be honest with y'all, I did not expect this fic to be as good as it is. The adrienette has everything a stablished!Marichat should have. Marinette conflicted with her feelings? Check. Adrien being a hot mess bc That's My Girlfriend But She Doesn't Know That? Check. Them being absolute idiots? Check. It's good!

Rainwater sloshed up from the pools they had made on the sidewalk and coated his jean pants with every step he took. He couldn't bring himself to care.

He sniffed away some of the water that dribbled down his matted head. "Yeah?"

He paused as if to consider his words while Adrien stared down at him, so lost. "You weren't wrong when you thought you knew. A part of you wanted it to be her, but it was too perfect, you let the illusion fool you because how would you get that lucky. But trust me, Adrien. You weren't wrong."

He wasn't wrong? What was he not wrong about?

You weren't wrong. You want it to be her.

And it finally clicked as a small gasp wisped past his lips. He wasn't wrong.

In which, Plagg falls ill, and with Fu gone and Ladybug being the guardian now, has to go find her civilian self-even with the knowledge that she might not like that-is shocked to realize that even with having the kwami that was supposed to embodied the very being of bad luck, Adrien could conclude the very opposite of what he had thought for so long.

He was so very lucky.

Like Burning by disarmed – SO beautifully written and approaches the characters and the pairing from a more mature angle, which I really appreciate.

let winter rule always by casuallyhuman – just started reading this one but I really like it. It’s got an interesting premise and strikes a great balance in its writing style.

not in so many words ; by therentyoupay – kind of cheating by including two works by the same author, but I have to include this one because it’s the only soulmate AU I’ve ever read that I can definitively say I love.

Frostbitten by Arialene and The Storm Inside by DreamyFireworks are both staples of the Jelsa fandom so those are always good to read. I think they’re both really cute.

And because I’m a shill I have to recommend my own fic, Eternity!

Ah, shit, I'm probably the worst person to ask for recommendations. I honestly have no idea what's new in the fandom, and there's a chance you already know my go-to authors: Furiyan and therentyoupay.

The last completed jelsa fic I read was My Heart Beats For You by rambledore, and that was a good year ago. Denis has a good variety of stories, so I would wholeheartedly recommend his stuff. Also, we kinda have similar styles of writing-- we're both sassy asses.

i keep getting the impression that these days (compared to pre-pandemic), more readers are more often just taking stories at face value, and not thinking about the possibility that there is more stuff happening “off-stage,” or that a narrator may be unreliable.
