Lou theory time
elle fanning, who i'm assuming is adult Lou, always has these very faint threads on her. at first i though it was just when she was floating:
Tumblr media
(not sure if you can see it but it's clearest near Fragile)
but later when she's eavesdropping you can also see them as she walks away:
Tumblr media
(near her shoulders)
what are these things? obviously, the clearest connection i can make, especially since that puppet character featured so prominently in the trailer, is puppet strings.
but puppets need a puppeteer. who do the strings lead back to?
my theory for where Lou went is that she grew up on the beach, which is why she's older and Sam and Fragile are seemingly the same age and why she was found in a chrysalis covered in tar. let's not forget she seems to bleed tar with timefall effects from her suckers (?):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
all relating back to tar and chiralium and cephalapods, three things we know are indicative of a connection to the beach.
(and it seems like Lou's inherited her dad's aphenphosmphobia too. her skin goes red and gets hives the closer the doctor gets to her arm.)
but the beach is famously a solitary place. and Lou can't have been alone since toddlerhood (this is assumption based on the first trailer. it's possible that she 'died' and disappeared later on in life, but likely she got shot the same time Fragile did) and on top of all that she's got clothes! who dressed her?
so far we're aware of only a few characters who can travel to and from the beach:
Sam (with Amelie's help). it cant be him because obvious reasons.
Fragile. unlikely. she apologizes for 'misleading' Sam but i think it's more likely she was talking about the nature of the 're-connection' rather than Lou.
Higgs. getting warmer. he obviously knows something, and his hair floats when he touches the empty pod, but it's inconclusive.
Amelie. the only one for sure still on the beach. the only other character witch weird bodily shit going on (eternal umbilical cord, the Bridget/ Amelie split).
and then we have the masks:
Tumblr media
the gold chiral mask is Higgs's staple, but let's not forget who gave him the idea. in both the skeletal half mask from the first game and the full face red mask from this game, Amelie did it first. the gold is based on her black skeleton mask Die-Hardman wears for most of the game and the red is just her face, like a pharaoh's death mask.
Lou and Amelie are linked somehow. and the puppet strings make me feel like that connection is not going to be a happy one.

The new SMT5 Vengeance trailer showed this new form for Nahobino and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be some sort of fusion with Tsukiyomi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His new weapon is an arm-scythe similar to Tsukiyomi's weapon and one of his new skills is called "Paraselene Blur", selene referring to the moon, which Tsukiyomi is the god of.
Tumblr media
In base SMTV, Tsukiyomi also made this comment that Aogami was based on him, so I'm thinking that the explanation is going to be that the new form is utilizing his latent Knowledge from Aogami's data banks. Possibly some sort of fusion?
I'm also wondering if this is going to be related to how the MC Nahobino is more human than Susano'O. Maybe there's something like the Protofiend technology has been set up somehow that it can't fully utilize a god's power/Knowledge and that's why Susano'O's characteristics were more downplayed in the original. Also there's an NPC who mentions that Protofiends have existed in Japan for as long as anyone can remember, so I'm thinking it might be possible that they can theoretically utilize any god's Knowledge? If that's the case that also might tie into the new form. Let me know if you have any thoughts or something to add, I'd be interesting in hearing more opinions or if you'd like to see more of my theory ramblings.

nature is static and bourgeois, the ecosystem is dynamic and proletarian
truthnuke: the only "human essence" is the continuous organization of society, which constantly is in flux. the bourgeois conception of nature is a kitschy sterile preserve and the underlying motivation to grant eternal life to capitalist relations by hardcoding them into reality
we're not at all separate from Gaia, we're the thinking component, and ecological devastation is akin to trashing ourselves with drugs on a global scale (a very apt comparison given the chemicals that get dumped in our water supply)
it’s entirely possible in some distant future, human civilization could be carried on without humans, like self-replicating machines or uplifted animals preserving (and continuously adding to) the societal culture we’re a part of

Some more One Piece things that are true and real and my uncle works for Nintendo
The Paw-paw fruit is gonna grow on one of Nami’s tangerines.
Viví for straw hat round two is going to happen b/c Morgans is gonna go to Elbaf to get an interview with Luffy.
Bonney is NOT joining the crew.
One or both of Dorry and Broggy are going to die on Egghead to allow the straw hats to escape. That’s gonna catalyze Usopp to start contributing again.
Loki is a scaredy-cat and compulsive liar just like Usopp
Luffy will eventually become so free in Gear 5 that he stops looking like a person. He kinda goes amorphous-blob-mode, taking on whatever shape and physique he thinks would be the most fun in the moment.
Luffy fights and beats Blackbeard, finds the One Piece, and then fights and beats Imu in that order.
Usopp gets conquerors haki I’m not kidding
He also gets Mjolnir, is named commander of the grand fleet (cuz luffy doesn’t want to deal with ordering people around), and the island Syrup Village is on gets renamed to Sniper Island.
Vegapunk’s message is about the name of the ancient kingdom. It’s not named “One Piece” or anything related to the one piece, but it is a name that is instantly recognizable and important for many people both in-world and in the audience. Not sure what exactly it’ll be, but it’ll be a big lore bomb.
Sabo is going to end up on Elbaf with luffy and vivi too — he needs to tell vivi what cobra said after all. This is going to lead to an alliance between the revs and the straw hats. Dragon might even say something to his son! Probably not, but maybe!
Moria joins cross guild. He’s jacked now
Buggy and Shanks can read poneglyphs (thanks to traveling with Oden). Buggy does not realize this until he stumbles into someone’s poneglyph rubbings and reads them like it’s nbd. Shanks been knew.
Shanks is not evil, but he’s also not exactly on luffy’s side… maybe. Shanks is the wildcard to end all wildcards imo.

“sex is just a thing people do” is like technically true but it’s so fucking vague and dismissive it essentially means nothing. “sex is a complex social ritual that has been commodified” would be more accurate

this is not going to be very coherent, nor will it have a larger point, but I was speaking to an academic friend whose focus of study is the theory of the state, and i can’t stop thinking about something she said. Which is that the police and the military are non-state actors. Because like the cops break the law constantly, all the time, and in so doing produce their own system of law that they operate from (some informal, some not). A lot of the times the police are in conflict with the state (they are a huge reason why criminal justice lawyers exist), even though their job is to enforce the legitimacy of the state through their granted monopoly on violence. And with the military, it can overthrow the state in a coup and render state legitimacy moot. So there is this fundamental contradiction in the state where it creates the systems for the enforcement of itself but in granting itself that authority, it also has the capacity to operate outside those rules.
She isn’t the person who came up with this critique and like idk maybe this isn’t surprising to other people. For me it was valuable because I always had a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of private police/military under the traditional (“Westphalian”) model of the state. Because that theoretically should create a huge conflict right, licensing out the monopoly on violence to non-state actors like private contractors. Like obviously I know private cops and militaries exist and function perfectly fine within the current system we’re in, I just never was able to square it intellectually.

ok kinda embarrassing that as The Fischl Guy I haven't looked into her story more but
Tumblr media
This sounds A LOT like Lumine went to Celestia or the Abyss, questioned their authority, and was tainted, becoming the Abyss Princess. (btw for consistency Aether is the MC, Lumine is the Abyss Twin in this post)
Perhaps the King of Ravens could be Dainsleif? They traveled together before, right? And though I doubt they still have contact I think it's possible that his duty to Irminsul will end up in her favor (perhaps cleansing her).
Tumblr media
see Dain's official introduction, it mentions a strand of blonde hair, likely that of Lumine. She's now his enemy who he will have to kill or save.
Tumblr media
Every nation we've been to so far has faced some sort of catastrophe, and it's obvious there's war with Celestia on the horizon. And what nation are we going to see last?? Khaenri'ah/The Abyss.
We know little of Dainsleif's actual duties as "Bough Keeper" but considering he's associated with both twins and Irminsul itself I think it makes sense he's Oz here. Although he's not Aether's companion, Flowers for Princess Fischl isn't 1:1 to canon (considering Princess Fischl doesn't even have a twin).
Tumblr media
That would make Aether the one currently acting as Princess Fischl.
Lumine says herself she's already been on this soul gathering journey, but she was unable to cleanse the darkness herself. I'd assume this is because she can't be Princess Fischl alone, as she and Aether are two halves of a whole. Their constellations reflect each other and they're interchangeable in the narrative.
Also Aether has shown off his cleansing powers with Dvalin's tears all the way back in the beginning sooo... Seems it's gonna be his job to cleanse Irminsul alongside Lumine and Dainsleif.
Now you may be thinking wait but what about Paimon she's been here all along?!
I think Paimon is the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles tbh. People are like "noo that's too obvious" but if you look at how Nahida was reverted to the form of the child and the symbols on Paimon match the Unknown God it's just... blatantly obvious.
She's probably so placid right now because whatever Aether is doing is something that has to be done. Maybe once she resisted fate but now that she's been factory reset she isn't part of the "fate resisting royals" ie Celestia. Aether is simply walking the lines of fate as they're supposed to go.
All in all I think this is a "Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond" situation where people think there must be a deeper secret going on instead of being able to accept the obvious answer. There's a name for this fallacy but I always forget and just think of the Pink Diamond thing.
so yeah whatcha think? I havent actually read the ingame books yet and I'll probably write about them once I do but for now I think it seems Fischl's story is meant to tell us about Aether and Lumine's.

i was just thinking abt this but why doesnt the twf fandom sympathize with jack just as much as they sympathize with felix. i guess it probably has to do with the fact that so far we’ve been more exposed to felix’s tragedies and we havent gotten to see a lot of jacks emotions due to him being purposefully obscured (im wording that a little weirdly but yall know what i mean).
but when we DO see his emotions, specifically his voicemail to felix, theyre twisted by the fandom? like if im being honest i did find the “felix pick up the phone” shit a little funny at first but that joke got old so quick when it became the primary way in which the fandom views jack: an, almost irrationally, angry and taunting figure instead of what he actually is, a distraught and worried father who loves his kids so much.
like, can you even imagine what jack mustve gone through? all that hurt and betrayal and grief weighing on him like piles and piles of bricks? whats heartbreaking to me is that he probably thought that the crash was his own fault since he asked felix to take molly and edd. why is this not touched on, like this angst and his tragedy is just as interesting and worthy of analysis as felix’s (some would even argue more so).

Rock a bye baby (where am i?)
I was re-watching the trailer again after getting pretty far into a new playthrough of DS1 when something clicked. we've heard the lullaby at the very end of the trailer before, in DS1:
(starts at 9:25 in the trailer, and a couple seconds in in the second video)
youtube
when we meet Mama and her BT baby the exact same section of the exact same song is playing as the trailer, but a little extended and with more melodies going. and the song is pretty significant even in DS1 without connecting it to DS2: this is the only other lullaby we hear in the game that isn't BB's theme. and it plays directly before we meet the third most important child character in the game, after Lou and Sam. and the order we hear BBs theme and rock a bye is even the same! the first trailer, Higgs sings a warped version of BB's theme, which we hear in DS1 near the very beginning after hooking up to Lou for the first time and seeing Cliff sing a section. the second trailer, a warped version of rock a bye, heard for the first time about a third of the way through the game when first meeting Mama.
the song is slower and simpler in the trailer compared to in DS1, with a very old almost broken down sound. the octopuses on the mobile seem really relevant considering just how many references to tentacles we've seen in the trailers so far: Elle Fanning's sucker arm, the tar-cat's tongue, the DHV Magellan's logo. and we know some time has passed since the end of the first game. could the song be coming from the same mobile?
thematically, it would be a fitting gift, if it was given as a gift to Sam - if the theories are right and Lou is haunting the BB pod then it'll be an object shared between two impossible BT babies. LockneMama would be the literal best person for Sam to get in contact with again, being the only person (people?) to actually have gone through something similar with a dead not dead daughter. (and it's a completely impractical gift for a living baby with squishy skin, being metal and likely to cut or injure a grabby infant.)
I don't know. i think it would be a really neat narrative parallel if Mama played a role in DS2, but since Margaret Qualley has not been mentioned in any promotional material I doubt she'll be in the game in any major way. that doesn't necessarily mean the theory is wrong; the character could still interact with Sam through emails but the reduced presence doesn't seem
ok wait had a brain wave does Shioli connect to this somehow? complete hunch based on nothing but the first song was obviously the song that connected Lou and Sam, as they're both BBs and the theme is used for both of them. we've seen absolutely nothing of who Shioli is despite knowing she must be a major character based on her poster and her name on the credit list. is rock a bye the song that connects Lou and Shioli's character?
her character poster:
Tumblr media
rock a bye baby is about a baby being 'lost' - "when the bough breaks the cradle will fall/ down will come baby, cradle and all."
euphemistically, it can be about child death due to negligence or instability, but going 'down' in the case of death stranding also immediately brings to mind tar, the sinking and the rising. is she 'down' at the beach?
'cradle and all' seems to me to imply there's other things related to cradles that are all going down with the baby, blankets, toys, etc. lots of mobiles attach to cradles.
maybe i'm grasping at straws with the Shioli connection, but the lullaby is the only part of the trailer that doesn't seem to obviously link back to or directly relate to the known characters. and since Mama isn't going to be a major player, maybe Shioli will fill the same thematic presence in this game as Mama did in the last - Mama, too, was lost in a sense, her Ha and Ka split when her baby died and untethered when her psychic link to Lockne broke. Mama was an inversion of the stillmother - maybe Shioli is an inversion of Lou?

the fnaf movie cast & crew on matthew lillard's performance:
OFFICIAL CHARACTER DESCRIPTION FOR STEVE RAGLAN:
A smug career counselor charged with helping Mike find a job, Steve Raglan has zero sympathy for the burdens of the unemployed. Played by horror legend Matthew Lillard, star of the original Scream, Steve seems to take a perverse pleasure in forcing a desperate person, like Mike, into a situation that’s less than ideal. It’s Steve who suggests the night guard job at Freddy’s to Mike, and who then bides his time, like a spider, until Mike reluctantly agrees to take it.
TAMMI & SCOTT IN ‘UNIVERSAL PICTURES PUBLICITY: FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S PRODUCTION INFORMATION APPROVED’:
“Matthew Lillard was terrific,” game creator and film producer Scott Cawthon says. “There was a long list of people we were looking at for this role. I was leaning toward Lillard early-on because I had great memories of seeing Scream in the theaters like twenty times with my roommates in college, but when a close friend of mine told me what a great guy he was in real life and how he took such good care of his fans at conventions, I knew he was the right person for the job. I told Matthew on the phone during our very first conversation that after the movie comes out, no one will even be able to imagine anyone else for the role, and I stand by that.” Landing the actor was a coup, says director Emma Tammi. “Getting Matthew on board was just incredible,” Tammi says. “He brought so much zaniness and electricity into the mix, and he had such attention to what Five Nights fans would want to see.”
'MATTHEW LILLARD ON "HUMBLING AND EXCITING" FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S' SUCCESS AND CREATING AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCES FOR FANS' (in The Hollywood Reporter):
CULLINS: For people who are not familiar with the game, how would you describe your character? LILLARD: I play a character that is living in plain sight in the world, and he is a horrible monster. Toward the end of the film, when my daughter can’t handle a situation, I have to step in and take over. I do not accomplish that goal and end up meeting my demise. It’s the first step in a journey that has this rich canon that spans multiple video games. I play a monster who, at the end of the day, gets his comeuppance and is thrown into this horror realm that he created. The hard part about playing this part is the pressure I put on myself to honor the fans, to deliver a great performance in an iconic role. There are millions of kids worldwide, and people that started playing as kids and are now adults, that have an expectation that this film will deliver on a really great level. So, being this iconic bad guy, the amount of pressure I put on myself to not suck is pretty extraordinary. That’s the hardest part.
TAMMI IN 'FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S FILMMAKER EMMA TAMMI TALKS THE "LOOSE ENDS" TO TACKLE IN A SEQUEL' (for The Hollywood Reporter):
DAVIDS: Before and after the reveal, I did catch some Stu Macher/Scream vibes from Matthew. I recognized that familiar live wire that he plays so well. Did you encourage that? Or did he just know instinctively that this guy warranted a bit of the same crazed energy that Stu had? TAMMI: Gosh, it feels like catching lightning in a bottle with Matthew because he just brings so much to the set and in the moment. And on that day in particular, we were just trying a bunch of different things for a bunch of different takes, and he was really coming alive in that [Yellow Rabbit] suit for the first time. Of course, we’d done some rehearsals with that suit, but it was a whole other deal once the camera was actually rolling in the properly lit pizzeria. So he was just going for it on every take and doing something different and really exploring in the moment. We just needed to make sure that we were there to capture it all. So, yes, there was definitely a back and forth between the two of us in terms of trying different things and really maximizing his menacing movement in that suit. But at the end of the day, he was just bringing all of his brilliance and improvisation to the table, and we were so lucky to be rolling on it.
LILLARD IN 'FNAF: FROM GAME TO BIG SCREEN' (DVD Bonus Content, via YouTube):
I've been really jonesing, like really coveting an opportunity to get a chance to get back into the horror genre. Getting a chance to work with Emma has been lovely. I literally, when I'm in that costume I'm blind, and so I rely on her like very few performances I've ever had in my life, to help me... sorta craft this character on the fly, physically in how we're telling the story and where we're at in the lore, and how that applies to-- y'know, all of the information that's out there and available, it all comes through her [Emma Tammi] and she fills us with what we need.
BONUS: the official guidelines for Raglan's facial hair, courtesy of Makeup Department Head Ashley Levy (via Instagram); "Also included: proof we take our facial hair design *very* seriously around here."

A thing I wish FFXIV would do with primal summoning (that I know Square Enix won’t do)
I was chatting with a friend the other night while playing Power Wash Simulator and eventually the discussion got onto the topic of Final Fantasy XIV (as it often does). The general conversation was about how FFXIV tells its story vs. other games (*cough*destiny*cough*), and at one point it turned to primal summoning.
Another bit of important context is that I just finished the Omega and Eden raids back-to-back. I was struck by how much both raids deal with ideas around memory, history and the way it’s recorded, and turning destructive power towards peaceful ends, and I guess that all kind of got caught up in our talk about primals. Anyway, it got me thinking about how cool it would be to see primals used in ways that don’t have anything to do with being weapons of war/pure forces of chaos.
We’ve seen so many different technologies and philosophies around the use of aether and dynamis to record, preserve and create at this point that it wouldn’t be a stretch for the Warrior of Light and the Scions to come across an as-yet-unmet group or culture that uses primals, the summoning process and even tempering to do something like pass down shared cultural/civilizational knowledge. It might be a shadow of the Amaurotines’ creation magicks, but it would be wild to me that no person or group on the Source ever learned how to do summons in a safe way for peaceful purposes.
This could even be a great setup for initial conflict between the WoL and this group, on account of our main mission (now that the world is saved) being to put a stop to primal summonings. That tension would be super fun to explore!
I know deep in my bones that CBU3 wouldn’t do this tho.

Against Monogamism
I've said before I arrive at polyamory by way of relationship anarchy, but after reading this I think I might articulate relationship anarchy a little differently. It's an opposition to the normative framework of Monogamism; not only do I want to avoid coercive arrangements in my relationships, I want to attack the coercive structures in place all around us. Rules based polyamory is just monogamy with extra people, as the authors put it.
Some choice quotations:
"This is not an exceptional case of monogamy-gone-wrong; rather, the idea that someone is entitled to total and lethal control over their partner’s body is an extension of the expectation that dating and marriage entitle someone to control how their partner relates to other people."
"Deviation from monogamy is so routinely assumed to be unethical that many people in non-monogamous relationships feel the need to address this without prompting through adopting the label of “ethical non-monogamy.”"
"To protect the artificial, system-stabilizing divide between “public” and “private” spheres, neoliberalism has privatized intimate relationships themselves."
Against X is a lot of my politic but I think there's something joyous and playful about how I go about it, and I can gladly say that now I am Against Monogamism.
