I'd kill for them without hesitation. he immediately had a crush on her and she immediately threatened to kill him and then their character arcs just lined up in a way where they're inseparable now and I love em a lot, they're real cuties. also they're like a mini Q'ihnn and G'raha too which I always think is funny to have like father like daughter shit with Q'ihnn and Zana lmao

Kerrich Drachman and Ophianne Vilauclaire I actually hadn't thought about these two much until recently but the dynamic is deeply compelling to me now - Kerrich and his adoptive kids as a whole vibe was always only ever something I really thought about with Estinien and Q'ihnn, with all three of them being dragoons, but Ophianne is the kid MOST like him and also the one he just... kinda ignored. didn't worry about. he wasn't training her and she could handle herself, he didn't feel like he needed to worry about it, but now she's grown and she just... doesn't want anything to do with him. she never did, she never wanted a father figure even as a kid, but she certainly doesnt want one now. and Kerrich is my canon's 1.0 WoL so his entire dynamic with Bahamut is, well, complicated... and Ophianne is a summoner. in fact she's more closely tied to the actual dragon that was Bahamut than the primal. the symbolism alone in that in their relationship is driving me insane and im really gonna hammer into it going forward as much as I get the chance

silly little EW ramblings

there are things in Endwalker I have pretty much worked into my characters’ stories now, or at least have made headcanons about some of them

Spoilers for pretty much everything, this exists for mine own amusement right now

Kyrie - joins the Ilsabard contingent secretly just to get into Garlemald without a mountain of paperwork. Ends up having to avoid the entire Adder force since she’s supposed to be dead. She’s generally nice to civilian Garleans and helps stragglers on her own, but she’s an urban legend (banshee woman!) to some Garlean soldiers though, and keeps away so she doesn’t have to waste her time fighting them.

Kyrie climbs into the Tower of Babil by herself. That lovely dinner scene with Zenos? It doesn’t go well for him, since Kyrie is a soul-devouring undead. Props to him for managing 5 minutes in her body before giving up. He still owes her a fight later. 

She decides to follow Zenos and Fandango to the moon and promptly splits from them to speed-dial Erebus up there.

She’s completely baffled by this “Final Days” business, in like a “what do you mean people are hollowing out there, I thought this was a NORMAL planet” way. The fact none of the monsters drop souls offends her. 

Back home, she made buddies with Drusilla (but I need to actually finish RPR quests to see how that goes). The joke here is that Drusilla had a crude sketch of Kyrie that was terribly unflattering and that was all she had to find her with. 

Erebus - everything hinges on getting this dummy into Elpis, which I’m still trying to figure out (field trip with a certain WoL buddy?). From that point onwards, I am ruining this man’s life with new headcanons. 

I finally dip my toes into the forbidden oc/npc pool and I’m making Hermes his boyfriend. In like, a ‘fell head over heels the moment this green-eyed cutie took off his mask for the first time’ way. They’ve known each other a long time since a lot of Erebus’s painted concepts get tested in Elpis. Erebus didn’t know Hermes became Fandaniel because he was self-testing his painted world just before that happened, and he never left it for the next several thousand years (like me when I replay Dark Souls haha). 

Though he’s loathe to admit it, Erebus has subconsciously latched onto things that remind him of Hermes: he changed his hair color from its original white to a dark color, all of his soul-bearing shards have green eyes, and his favored animals are butterflies and moths (flying creatures). 

Erebus hugely respects Venat and incorporated a lot of her stories into his paintings. Friendly to Hythlodaeus, though Hyth is a little wary of his concepts. Erebus and Emet have a on-and-off friendship and frequently disagree on things. 

If Erebus wants to take Kyrie into Elpis, he has to stuff her into a painting because her aether is so messed up, it would trip everyone’s alarms if they saw her walking around. Meteion still wants to be her friend though. 

All the stuff that Emet gave Kyrien (during ShB events) is still carried around by Erebus. This gets awkward when the dream-eating tapir Emet made toddles around. 

I have more ideas simmering away but these I’ve committed to my memory...

I finally finished watching Mystic Pop-Up Bar and I loved it. I think this might be my favourite Korean fantasy drama. I feel like this drama is pretty underrated. And I feel like I like the underrated Korean dramas more than the super popular ones. I don't know but a lot of times, especially in the last year or so, when I watch the super popular Korean dramas, I just feel like they're over hyped. Not that I hated them or didn't enjoy them, but I just don't see what the hype is about. Some of them might be enjoyable but I don't think it's to the point of being as hyped up as it is. Just my opinion though.

I think the kind of Korean dramas that I enjoy are the ones that are not too heavy? The more lighthearted ones and not too heavy or dark ones. Which is funny because with Chinese dramas, I usually don’t watch lighthearted dramas lol but whatever.

I just really enjoyed Mystic Pop-Up Bar. Honestly speaking, I was pretty much starting to get sick of Korean dramas lately but after watching this drama, that feeling went away. (I think it’ll come back soon enough though)

I actually didn’t quite like Weol Ju at first because I thought she was gonna be another one of those snarky female characters like Ko Mun Yeong and Jang Man Wol. I just am not such a huge fan of those types of characters. But Weol Ju turned out to be so nice and caring and self-sacrificing and just such a softie and I love her so much.

Also, I didn’t quite like the crown prince...but I love Guibanjang. I don’t know but maybe it’s because we didn’t really see much of the crown prince so to me he felt like he didn’t have much of a personality lmao but that’s just what I think. I love Guibanjang though. How can you not.

And Kang Bae!! Cutie pie. Need I say more? He’s just such a softie and I love him. I’ve only even watched Yook Sung Jae in Goblin but I think after this, I might just watch more of his other dramas.

Basically I love this trio and all their moments together. It’s the found family trope for me :’)

I enjoyed this drama so much that for the very first time in the history of this blog, I will be reblogging a lot of posts so uh get ready for some Mystic Pop-Up Bar spam over the next few days.

Also I love this drama so much I kinda want to do portraits for all three of them. And maybe Kang Yeo Rin too. Also, I’ve been wanting to try out isometric illustration and maybe I’ll do one of the pop-up bar hehe

How I feel about this character

You sadistic fuck. You cruel, cruel man. You absolute ASSHOLE!! WHY DID I GET ATTACHED TO YOU YOU SORRY LITTLE-

Look, I used to hate this fucker. He's cruel and sadistic and enjoys hurting people.

Then @knights-of-ishgard and @inkblood-mistrieu gave me ideas on maybe, just maybe, some points in his life weren't as shitty as people believe, or there is some reason as to why he is the way he is. And then Ming put the idea in my head that in his childhood, he made a friend, and they were very close and did normal kid stuff but they were both strong mages, but then shit happened and well...yeah.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

I don't have any ships with him myself, but I have seen a couple, namely @knights-of-ishgard's cutie Avaline, and that one person who has the really cute Dravanian WoL (Percival? Something with Percy in the name, I know they're on Twitter.) who was doing the Ward dating sim comics. I HC Charibert as asexual biromantic, and only lets certain people touch him. (Currently only Raven and Auriella are allowed to hug him, he's slowly warming up to Haurchefant and Mingxia, everyone else is on thin ice.)

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Him and Raven are oath siblings from childhood, which is why losing him made her so upset. Ming and I have plans for letting him, along with the rest of the Ward, survive what happened to them. We are gonna let Raven have her brother back! And let him have a bit of fun roasting Voidsent and Fandaniel's croonies!

My unpopular opinion about this character

Like the rest of the Ward, he was tempered, and I fully believe he should face the consequences for his actions, especially for killing the previous Archmandite. though part of me wonders if Thordan or Lahabrea set that shit up. Either way, much as I enjoy this fucker, I also know he needs to face the consequences for what he did. But he won't face them while believing that he isn't still cared for and loved, bc while in prison Auriella does visit him, and Raven sees him when she can too.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Like the rest of the Ward, I really wish we had the chance to learn more about them in game vs finding the shit in the lorebooks.

How I feel about this character

Lyse as a character is a delight and I enjoy her cheerfulness when she's on my screen.

I have not seen any pairs with her aside from one on Twitter, but she'd be a delight to ship with! But if I had to chose a NPC ship for her? Hmmm... I've seen some with Hien, some with Cirina, and some with M'naggo. All three have their charms!

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Same as above, but honestly? I loved the dynamic she and Papalymo had during ARR and HW. He was a good friend to her and I get the sense that he'd be proud looking down on her from where he is and seeing how far she's come.

My unpopular opinion about this character

I wish we had seen her be more in tune with politics. Papalymo taught her and dealt with many political and diplomatic things in the Shroud, I wish we had seen this more throughout SB. Mind you I'm not saying she shouldn't mess up ever, far from it, but the writing makes it seem like all she did before was be Papalymo's bodyguard. Then again I could be misremembering...

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Again, let her be more in tune with the diplomacies in SB, let her mess up, but also let her utilize what she did before when dealing with the Sylphs and such in the Shroud.

Your eldest thought that they would be the only one. They gave you and their father all the love that they could ask for. In kind, they’ve showered them in affections and spoiled them in a way that the child knew they were blessed. They were the perfect family.

So why is it that they deigned to have another?

The eldest watched as all of the attention was poured from them to their little sibling. Somewhere in the back of their mind, the eldest knew that it was because their sibling was still a suckling babe that their parents were doting on them, but they still couldn’t help but feel jealous.

At first, the eldest would resort to attempting to acquire accolades in training. The knights at Camp Dragonhead were kind enough to train the eldest, to actualize their dream of becoming a knight themselves. Haurchefant would nod his head in response, but wouldn’t give so much as a passing glance because his work would come first.

Then, the eldest would resort in mischief; setting up pranks around the manor such as hiding the baby powder when it was time to feed them or to set up noisemakers in the baby’s room when they’re sleeping. It’s only earned the ire of both their parents, especially you who had taken the role of the baby’s primary caretaker.

It wasn’t fair. Not at all.

It was in this that your eldest decided enough was enough. They filled a bug out bag with clothing, grab the sword that their grandsire had custom made for them and set off. They knew that the Temple Knights were performing a small military action in the Western Highlands, clearing out points of interests where the radical heretics of Lady Iceheart’s time sought to revive Saint Shiva.

Joining the joint exercise was easy; since Uncle Aymeric and Uncle Estinien weren’t leading the initiative, the eldest was able to blend in quite well in the small group that had been assigned. They obeyed every command, followed every direction to the T and soon they came upon an abandoned farmstead in the northern sector of Highlands.

But that was when everything went wrong.

The heretics used bears as a trap, allowing a mother and her cubs to reside in the basement. Extremely territorial, the mother bear made quick work of the front line and suddenly, the eldest is among only a small handful that yet remained standing.

When they attempted to retreat to call for reinforcements, they had the unfortunate luck of being surrounded by the heretics that had set up the traps, ready to shoot them down where they stood or impale them—if not offer them as tribute for the summoning.

It was in knowing true fear that the eldest wished that they weren’t so stubborn, that they wished they could just be honest and talk about how they felt. As the bears approached them, claws raised and ready, the eldest closed their eyes submitted to their fate...

...but it never came.

Rather, they felt arms wrap around their body and whisk them away quickly, the biting cold of the winds nipping at the bare skin of their cheeks. When the eldest opened their eyes once more and saw that you had them in your arms as you both sailed across the air, landing a little ways away. 

After you placed the eldest on the ground, you motioned to stand in front of them, reaching for the lance strapped to your back. In the background, you could hear your father’s commanding voice and the clinking of metal as the knights of House Fortemps and House Durendaire marched together.

“Lay down your arms!” you exclaimed to the heretics. “Ysayle... Lady Iceheart would have never wanted this and you know it!”

When they refused to response, the eldest watched as you jumped into the fray, vengeance in your eyes and a certain glint of something akin to longing. When Haurchefant reached your child, asking if they were alright, your child couldn’t help but ask:

“Father, do you know them?”

Haurchefant frowned sadly and nodded. “We will talk about this later. For now, ready your blade, my child.”

“But why?” your eldest demanded. “I’ve been such a bad child... why would you come rescue me?”

Haurchefant laughed merrily, then motioned to pat the eldest’s head.

“Because, at the end of the day, my child, you are still our child and we still love you. Even if we were to have another child—maybe two or three—we still love you and we will love all of you equally.”

It was at this that your eldest began to tear up, the cold climes of the Highlands threatening to freeze the teardrops as soon as they were released, so the eldest stood tall, stood proud. They were ready to fight and make amends.

In-Game

- Levelled all classes to 80! Though it does feel a bit hollow not being able to get xp for doing stuff now...

- Started Raiding... Well, seriously. I used to be a scrub and only do e1,e5 and e6 savage in PF, but a friend’s static needed a healer and they all but convinced me I was good enough to join. It’s been a hell of a ride, I’ll finally be going into e12s soon, but my experiences thus far have been awesome to say the least. I feel like I’m actually getting the most out of this game now that I both savage raid and take the time to RP.

- FINALLY GOT A HOUSE ON BALMUNG. 

God was the release of the new wards hella stressful. Stayed up all night, logged on the second I could, booted up next to the ferryman. Didn’t get my ideal plot, but got the neighboring one. I finally got to house something with more than 100 slots, and for that, I am eternally thankful.

- Finished those goddamn Shared Fates. And all so I could get a piece of music and possibly make a few million gil selling other SHB area themes. Crystarium night theme is the GOAT and you cannot tell me otherwise.

Roleplay

- Actually RP’ed outside of my circle of friends! Now I haven’t had the time recently to seriously go back to it like I once did, but the things I’ve learned and the people I’ve met... I wouldn’t trade it for the world. With this upcoming new year, and me taking a small break from Uni, I think I’ll begin in earnest again! First I’ve gotta update all these damn sites first to better reflect where Saerno is now.

- New Plotlines realized, old ones closed up. It’s cathartic and oh so satisfying, in a way, to see your OC go through legitimate change and to have them put a cap upon a phase of their life, slowly moving on to the next. While Saerno is still as brash as ever, he’s begun to realize just how fragile his life is. To slow down, to sit back, rest, to think about the direction his life is headed, that is the essence of his new arc.

- Secrets to uncover. To keep things brief and without many spoiler, Saerno has made the transition from Arcanist to Summoner, but with it comes its own host of problems, ones that Saerno has to grapple lest things take a turn for the worse.

- Potential Alts. Well, now that I have money again... I may actually follow through on one of the many alt ideas I’ve had, some tangentially tied to Saerno’s own story, others completely unrelated. A tailor with an unrequited love that’s inspired him throughout his hardships? Perhaps the prodigal daughter of a family whose cunning nature only fuels her desire of pure freedom? Or maybe the son of Doman liberators, trying desperately to gain the approval and praise of others so that his parents’ name do not die out completely. So many choices... 

And, well, that’s all! So far while 2020 has been quite terrible, at least I have these moments to look back upon fondly. Thanks to any and all of your who have been here this year, and here’s to hoping for a wonderful 2021!

So, I managed to get my butt kicked off the servers just as I unlocked what I believe is the second-to-last duty of Shadowbringers. Now that I’m left to fervently deny the option of sleep, I instead shall take the time to ramble on about all of the characters (new and old) this new expansion has made me love, interested in, and/or just very deeply want to write about

and I’ll likely add to it as I finish sidequests...and when it isn’t almost 4 a.m.

Kee-Satt - A wholesome Miqo’te boy found in Amh Araeng who cares a damn lot about his community. You meet him in one of the Aethercurrent quests, but I was curious enough to keep going for a bit afterwards and I’m happy I did! He just wants to get the materials to make a really useful metal, but he’s dealing with some intense discrimination since he’s the only Miqo’te among Hrothgar in the town (the others left for Eulmore at some point). He apparently has the cold shoulder for literally everyone but the WoL/D and confides his hopes and dreams to make his town better and safer with this ore he’s trying to find and I just love him.

Kai-Shirr - You meet him early-on in the MSQ while in Eulmore and I just...he’s got a cute face, a cute voice, and damn if I almost fucking lost my shit when I thought he was going to die. He was so desperate to be with his friends and I am forever sad that he at some point had to accept the fact that those friends were dead and like, I worry for him. Does he have any family? Anyone?? Please Kai-Shirr for the love of god tell me you’re doing alright let me help you.

Moren - The historian? Librarian? of the Crystarium that you meet early in the MSQ. He is a total dork and I have a total softspot for cuties like him. 10/10 would protect at all times, 10/10 would have him recite all sorts of stories from the First just so I could hear his soft voice more. Perhaps hear his voice in more ways than one.

Quinfort / Valan - Two adorable dorks that are part of an Aethercurrent quest in the Rat’Tika Greatwoods, though there is certainly more content of them afterwards in the sidequest chain. Definitely seem like close friends, Valan is the pragmatic to Quinfort’s exuberance and tbh I’d date both of them.

Chai-Nuzz / Dulia-Chai - A married Miqo’te couple who you meet early on in the MSQ. For a while I thought I was going to loathe them since at first I thought they were going to be written super shallowly, as one might expect from how Eulmore residents were at first glance. They get a bit of growth during the MSQ and, honestly, I love them both--they have the most adorable relationship that’s pretty damn supportive of one another and!! Dulia-Chai is a fat female character that isn’t!! Played off!! Like a joke!! She’s sweet and funny and super encouraging to her husband Chai-Nuzz. 10/10 would date them and I’m not afraid to say it. Let me date these two Square Enix, I swear to god.

Lue-Reeq - He is one of the four or five role quest NPCs in Shadowbringers, specifically for ranged DPS characters. I really enjoyed learning about him, honestly--he’s the child of a rich couple of Eulmore and by god does it show. He’s a bit spoiled at the beginning of the quest and a fair bit naive, but he was never really rude--a young man who had some self-confidence issues that he hid by tossing money around to try and buy friendship from people. It certainly didn’t help that I was playing as Khalja at that point in the game (who is my only top OC to date) and I wanted so bad to just fuck this soft Miqo’te man right out in the middle of the fucking forest after I finished the last battle of the questline.

Ardbert - This man has been through so much shit. He deserves a hug and, if it were me, more than a hug, but spectral kinky times aside I adored that I got to see so much more of his history and connections with the people of the First. The friendship that he shares with the WoL/D by the end of the MSQ is super heartwarming. I honestly think I’d have his whole team on this list if I had the time to go through the multiple role questlines that give you more insight to each of them

Solus [Emet-Selch] - Hello yes I’m too busy crying in the corner for commentary. Jk, but for real the amount of lore we got for the Ascians and their world and the new perspective of all the game’s evens we gained from that was...humbling, to say the least. It’s like, I still gotta kick your ass, but I sympathize with the heavy weight of pain and loss that you’ve been carrying with you for literal eons. A good example of a sympathetic villain. 10/10 would entertain a whole AU where somehow Emet-Selch is convinced to not do the thing, and/or maybe even indulge in a lil cliche concept of him falling in love with someone in the Source, like, for realsies, and eventually coming to terms with the fact that he will never get back the world and people he’s lost so long ago--might as well protect the people in the here and now.

Crystal Exarch [G’raha Tia] - I contemplated just putting a string of ‘aaa’ in here, but I figured it wouldn’t exactly communicate the sweet vindication I felt when I saw that hood get blown off to reveal his face in that absolutely beautiful cutscene. It was fucking cinematic, I fucking almost bawled. There is so much depth and literal years of stuff to wade through because, well, G’raha Tia is fucking alive and he’s over 100 years old and he’s been waiting all of those years for you. I watched those cutscenes, I read that dialogue, he’s so fucking in love with you and holy fuck do I absolutely reciprocate those feelings. 

Innocence - I want you to take everything you know and trust about the universe and just toss it straight out of the window, because that’s what happened exactly at the second phase of the Crown of the Immaculate trial. My love for this character, whom I am considering as entirely separate from Vauthry for the sake of my own sanity, is largely based on aesthetics because....he is.....Big Sexy..... Look, I’m content with having an AU to have my attraction and writing make sense with him.

Thancred - More like Dadcred amiright? But for real, no, Thancred had a lot of emotional healing and growing through this expansion and I fucking loved it. His acceptance of Minfilia’s passing in the end, his naming of Ryne, how the two of them bonded as parent and child...it just brings a tear to my eyes. Also he is fucking hot as a gunbreaker.

Urianger - I’m not sure if it’s because Urianger really had an opportunity to shine with the Pixie quests/Il Mheg area, or if it’s because he totally rocks his new astrologian class, but he is just 10/10 in this expansion. Maybe it’s because he stopped wearing the goddamn eAR COZIES

Zenos - He has become Ultimate Yandere(tm) now. And, gods above, if that’s not one of my most guilty-pleasure Things(tm) to work with in fiction. He was in the game for maybe 10 on-screen minutes at MOST and yet he spawned so many damned ideas I can use.
