angel (@slenderverse)
Tumblr media
"This is Angel! A lot of her information is already on her profile so I guess I'll just talk about her as a fat person :) She's based off my body type, especially with the smaller chest. I don't see a lot of representation for the way I'm built so I wanted to make sure she can be there for me you know? Drawing her makes me really happy because I can represent myself like I could anyone else.
As it's the 1970s she does struggle a lot with her appearance but when she gets older & starts testosterone, a lot of her issues with her weight go away as she gets more comfortable in her body. Later on she started dating & gets married to a man named Miller who is also fat.I wish I had art of him but he currently does not have a ref sheet."
hironobu shirahama (@notoriousmasc)
Tumblr media
"Cowboy hat, spurred boots, a wide-hipped swagger and a thick southern drawl, Hironobu Shirahama carries himself with the charisma of a rich southern businessman from the mighty US of A…
Which he has never been to.
Hironobu (or Hiro, as his Western friends call him) is what you might somewhat-affectionately refer to as a Freeaboo -- a Japanese person obsessed with the United States. Stationed in Osaka, he runs an American-themed restaurant with his Japanese-American husband, Jouichi, who makes the food while he does the marketing. Hiro speaks fluent English, however, he practiced almost exclusively with cowboy movies, so he has a permanent Foghorn Leghorn-Benoit Blanc-level exaggerated drawl when he does. He has a strained and tragic relationship with his family, especially his twin sister, and he has an American truck from the 70s that he treats like his baby, despite walking or taking a train almost everywhere."

your personal top (10?) manga? :))
Hello!!!
I am going to preface this with the fact that I only got into anime around 2014/2015 (Fullmetal Alchemist + Brotherhood) and then read the manga around 2016.
I only started avidly reading around 2019 with digital copies of JoJo and fell into loving manga from there and genuinely becoming a reader/keeping up with new releases and starting to learn Japanese (basic hiragana, etc) in 2021.
My other qualifications for these picks are that I am an irl artist (illustration and stained glass), taught an art history course for 1 year, and I read/write as much as possible outside of work.
I will also say that I may not have finished reading all these series yet, but they are the ones near and dear to my art-loving heart.
Also sorry it’s a few more than 10 *sweats*
Tumblr media
Fullmetal Alchemist — Hiromu Arakawa
My very first manga.
Knowing that Arakawa taught herself art while still working on her parents’ farm and used her nights/time off to write it made me so in awe of her drive and skills. The ways the story deals with humanity, war, power, and love make it a timeless classic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure — Hirohiko Araki
It’s bonkers. It’s off the wall. It’s been going since the 80’s and Araki is still working. There’s so much to love. There’s so much to hate. But no matter how you feel about JJBA, it’s undeniably a masterpiece.
Araki’s dedication to the art is one of the biggest draws, with his fashion and art history references and use of bright colors. You can feel his love for the medium shine through his full color pieces!
My personal favorite parts are Phantom Blood, Diamond Is Unbreakable, Stone Ocean, and Jojolion (ikik all the “boring” parts, but I think that’s where the characters are most interesting)
Tumblr media
Jujutsu Kaisen -- Gege Akutami
My next big read after JoJo. After watching season 1 of the anime, I knew I needed more. The way that Gege uses the classic shonen tropes combined with explorations of life and death is very strong storytelling.
We learn from the start about curses, cursed energy, we witness a major death in the protagonist’s life and he’s given a goal:
“You’re a strong kid, so help others. Even if it’s only those closest to you, just save the people you can. It’s okay if you lose your way, and don’t worry about whether they’ll thank you or not. Just save as many people as you can, even if it’s only one.”
The series often shows us what it means to save even one and the self sacrifice that comes from protecting others, even if it’s painful or difficult. Throw iconic characters into the mix and you have the basis for an already notable classic shonen manga.
Tumblr media
Spy x Family — Tatsuya Endo
Found family slice of life with a big dose of action and fluff?? Literally the perfect comfort manga. I saw enough promos on tumblr that I finally caved and started it in 2020 and I LOVED it.
More people are familiar now bc of the anime’s popularity, but I definitely recommend reading it as well! The art is consistently high quality, the face expressions are hilarious, and the main concept of fighting for peace is re-stated throughout the storyline.
Loid took on this mission and his spy position to bring peace. He never wants to see the horrors of war again. He never wants to see another child cry. The family may be “fake” but the feelings are real.
Tumblr media
Witch Hat Atelier — Kamome Shirahama
I cannot stop giving high praises for this series!!!! It’s like if you mixed Ghibli’s nature and art with Narnia or LOTR’s fantasy vibes. The magic system is based on drawing and it’s such a treat for artists to read.
Shirahama also uses a lot of traditional art references for her work, like rococo, art nouveau, classic illustration, etc. She’s won awards for the series and every one is deserved.
Also the two main witches, Qifrey and Olruggio, are definitely in love and take the best care of their witch students (cough daughters) in the atelier. Qifrey is like if you mixed Howl Pendragon with Gojo Satoru. Olruggio is the traditional tsundere with a heart of gold.
The series also talks a lot about disability and how we can improve others’ lives to make them more comfortable and accessible! It’s a very unique world and story that draws you in and makes you feel at home.
Tumblr media
Chainsaw Man — Tatsuki Fujimoto
Yes, the series everyone is currently talking about. And I’m not going to call it peak or goat, but I think the concept is very strong and well-executed.
Fujimoto pulls you in from the intro (esp Pochita, how can you not love a cute little chainsaw dog!?), he makes you care about the characters, and slowly rips your heart out chapter by chapter. It’s won awards for good reason.
Not everyone is morally black and white. There’s giant battles and dynamic art. The main character just wants to touch some boobs. The other main guy is basically a househusband after work hours. Add in a pretty girl blood devil who doesn’t like vegetables. An Angel Devil who can kill someone through a touch and loves ice cream. A sopping wet kitten of a girl who works at her family’s burger place and hunts devils on the side. etc etc.
The characters are one of the strongest aspects of Chainsaw Man and their dynamics with each other. Hate, love, control, fear… The series talks about our basest desires and anxieties and explores them in a fictional playing field with all the flare you expect from a Shonen Jump title.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toilet Bound Hanako Kun - AidaIro
THE ART STYLE THE ART STYLE THE ART STLYE. This series is done by a two person team (AidaIro - one for art, one for writing) and I appreciate that each brings their strength to this manga.
The coloring and art are so dreamy and whimsical, while still using strong jewel tone colors (instead of only pastels or earth colors as you might expect in a western fantasy series).
The work uses the “seven school wonders” as its base and Nene Yashiro as the protagonist who just wanted to get a date with her crush and called on Hanako’s help. Through her impulsivity, she ends up under a mermaid’s curse and makes a pact with Hakano to make it more bearable, getting pulled into the carryings-on of spirits around the school.
The art/story combo is engaging, dynamic, and emotional. There’s a lot of hilarious face expressions in this manga as well and little visual gags/jokes that make it fun to read. The series started in 2014 and is still ongoing!
Tumblr media
The Way of the Househusband — Kosuke Oono
a former yakuza member marries a designer and becomes a stay at home househusband. Hijinks ensue. Add in his former gang friend Masa and their cat Gin and you have a recipe for domestic comedy.
I’ve genuinely laughed out loud so many times reading this manga. The chapters are pretty short and are good when you need a little break to not stare at a screen. It’s another good comfort manga when you need something low intensity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dorohedoro -- Q Hayashida
I have to admit I found this one because of the anime MAPPA did, but I immediately explored the manga and mud and sludge art book. Q Hayashida trained in fine arts before becoming a mangaka and it shows through the quality of her work.
From the heavily detailed manga panels, to the mixed media covers, and bonus comics done in color, the world is rendered in a blend of gritty realism and surreal fantasy.
Dorohedoro is one of the most unique pieces of worldbuilding I’ve encountered, with the smoke magic system, use of doors for traveling between Hole and the sorcerers world, as well as including devils in the lore.
Again, characters are a big draw of the series, but the art is just mind blowing to me as an artist, knowing the level of craft she put into them. I still flip through the artbook for inspiration when I’m feeling drained.
I haven’t finished all of the manga, but I’m slowly collecting the volumes (some are out of print). But I believe all the pdfs are up on archive.org (also please keep in mind there is an Adult Only/18+ content warning on this manga as there is gore and some nudity)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blue Period — Tsubasa Yamaguchi
I started collecting this when they released volume 1 and just kept collecting. If you’re an artist at all or appreciate art, this is a series for you. It describes the struggles of finding your voice as an artist so deeply and you will feel understood and seen.
There are quite a few characters in the series, so I suggest looking at the wiki for this one to keep everyone straight. I also recommend watching the anime, as the colors and voices help distinguish the characters further.
The art history references in the chapter art makes this a scavenger hunt for art nerds and the messages of self searching, acceptance, and discovery are something anyone can relate to. (edit: I looked up the series more and it's another woman author!! :D )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Case Study of Vanitas — Jun Mochizuki
Another I started collecting because of the anime, but it’s SO so beautiful (Arakawa sensei even gave a recommendation inside the front cover of volume 1!)
Also!!! Another woman author!! I’m so happy to give lots of women author recs. If you like gothic romantic vampire dramas set in alt history steampunk Paris with a dash of horror, then this is for you.
Bisexual vibes from literally all of the main 4 (Noe, Vanitas, Dominique, Jeanne). Some moments of sensuality, but it never goes into overtly sexual, making it more accessible for teen readers.
Her watercolors are instantly recognizable and stunningly gorgeous. Noe’s delight in the world is balanced by Vanitas’ grumpier realism. Also, the concept of a vampire that can read memories through blood blew my mind. Definitely recommend.
Special mentions:
Tumblr media
Yotsuba&! (a classic first manga for kids. Heartwarming. Funny. Adorable)
Tumblr media
Skull Face Bookseller Honda-san (also a good anime. Only 4 volumes. All the crazy things that happen in a bookstore/publishing. Funny and a great autobiography by the author Honda)
Tumblr media
Kaiju No. 8 (an up and coming Shonen Jump that’s already slated for an anime!!!! Kaiju battle action + a 32 year old protag that had an accident while working and can now turn into a Kaiju >:D Monster lovers rejoice)
I also have a few singles of older shojo manga that I’m getting into recently like Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Kitchen Princess, Host Club!

I think it's always weird when there's smth u can criticize in a work, and people will be able to spin it as a positive somehow. Like they have full faith, and view it as an intentional thing than a flaw
Tumblr media
i think its people being unable to differentiate depiction and endorsement? shirahama increasngly writes the wizard cops in a sympathetic way and tries to make them look all cute and likable and somehow some readers will still interpret it as her... trying to show theyre still cops despite being Nice sometimes. theyre written characters and no other antagonist in wha gets the same treatment, especially the brimhats who so far are just Evil, ugly bad guys. the cops are introduced arresting kids and fighting on sight with a poor man and his disabled son and i think with goofy moments like this:
Tumblr media
ur supposed to not be entirely angry at the wizard cops, like "oh she didnt know, it was a misunderstanding :(" and all the other shit. just the narrative being centrist automatically makes it feel very against dagda who is made to discourage violence even when that other wizard cop went to kill him on sight. i think its fine if he keeps that sword in his hands, lmao. my point is, i dont think the story is objective about the cops at all and hearing how the characters being treated by them is really annoying. i dont really get how you'd view it as being critical of cops, or even coming close to a "acab" sentiment

Unpopular opinion about Witch Hat Atelier
Chapter 49 of Witch Hat Atelier is the most pointless chapter I've ever read in manga. It contradicts not only the rest of the series but also itself just to present the message about the harm of sexual abuse in an extremely shallow manner.
For starters, the whole chapter is devoted to the Knights Moralis pursuing a peeping tom and it's on the very last page that the glyph on Dagda's body—the only thing from this chapter that has a real impact on the story—is revealed. The way Shirahama handled it shocked me given how she previously explored the psyches of Agott, Tartah, Richeh, and Eunie. By contrast, it's impossible to erase the Kamoshida arc of Persona 5 because it, along with the prologue, firmly establishes the core theme of the game—corrupt adults who abuse youth—and inspires the main characters to team up with each other as the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
Throughout this chapter, Easthies shows kindness and understanding to Luluci as a victim of sexual abuse, even going on and on about the plight of the victim—both in her backstory and when they pursue the peeping tom. He punished her teacher on the spot for taking the side of the nobleman who abused her and her fellow apprentice, Ellien, and turning her in to the Knights Moralis to erase her memories just so he could silence her. He refuses to listen to the excuses the peeping tom makes, including the latter's appeal to their "natural urges as men".
However, Easthies never bothered to pursue the nobleman who started the whole mess in the first place. Ellien was mysteriously absent when her teacher turned Luluci in after Luluci attempted to defend her from the nobleman. It's noteworthy that Luluci used offensive magic—which is forbidden by law—against the nobleman to do so, destroying a non-negligible portion of the castle where their teacher had sent them to work. Luluci stands out in the entire series for being disproportionately privileged by the Knights Moralis; not even Agott enjoys their mercy and understanding even though she hails from the prestigious house of Arkrome.
Throughout the series, the Knights Moralis are infamous for ruthlessly enforcing the law of magic and jumping to conclusions just so they could find someone to punish:
Qifrey refuses to turn Coco in after she unknowingly uses a forbidden spell that turns her house into stone along with her mother. Later chapters validate his reasoning that the Knights Moralis would just erase her memories.
During the river incident, Easthies aggressively accuses Coco and Agott of intentionally altering the landscape and threatens to erase their memories instead of listening to them. Not only is it impossible for Coco to do such a stunt without the intervention of the Brimmed Cap Iguin as she's only recently begun studying magic, but also Agott has done nothing but send the mirage of a bird flying in the sky to call the adults for help.
During the second test, Qifrey asserts that not even victims of forbidden magic are spared from the wrath of the Knights Moralis, hence Agott's anger at the Brimmed Cap Sasaran when he nearly carves a glyph on her body while restraining her and Eunie's decision to hide with Alaira after Sasaran turns him into a scaled wolf against his will.
In Qifrey's backstory, the Knights Moralis considered erasing his memories even though the Brimmed Caps had already done it to cover up their crimes after they kidnapped him, took his eye, experimented on him, and buried him alive.
Galga brands Dagda as a Brimmed Cap for the glyph on his body even though Dagda has no idea what it is, later doing the same to Coco and Tartah when the kids try to defend him.
All of this is just a symptom of the cruel rigidity prevalent throughout witch society:
Agott treats Coco with disdain for being an outsider and therefore without the basic knowledge of magic and witch society. Agott tricks Coco into taking a difficult test against the wishes of their teacher in hopes that she would give up and fail.
It's revealed that Agott's prestigious family cast her out of home because she didn't live up to their high standards, explaining where her behavior came from.
Tartah has been told from a young age that he can never be a full-fledged witch because of his color blindness. Qifrey empathizes with his situation, saying that "refusal to accommodate differences is not an admirable quality of witch society." This foreshadows the reveal that Qifrey lost an eye as a child and he's losing the sight of his remaining eye nowadays, which he keeps a secret even from his best friend and apprentices due to the mistreatment he faced in the past.
Richeh and Riliphin's previous teacher punished her for her creativity so much that she came to hate the idea of growing up.
Eunie suffers not only from social and performance anxiety but also from verbal abuse at the hands of his teacher, Kukrow, eroding his self-confidence. Kukrow has the audacity to even ask Qifrey if he could exchange Eunie for Agott when Eunie is right there.
Those who took Qifrey in refused to give him a space appropriate for a child who had been traumatized to the point of near death—they sent him to a room empty of furniture and made him live under the ocean despite his trauma-induced fear of water—and to investigate his past and the Brimmed Caps who victimized him. Even his own teacher, Beldaruit, views him as dangerous due to contact with forbidden magic—one that was inflicted on him instead of something he committed out of his own will—and a subsequent desire to pursue the Brimmed Caps without considering how their neglect caused him to distrust them and refuse to seek help from anyone in the first place.
All of Chapter 49 raises as many questions as the official story of Pink Diamond's assassination did to Defense Zircon in "The Trial" from Steven Universe.
Defense Zircon: Ugh! Who am I kidding? This is pointless! We've all heard the rumors about the demise of Pink Diamond, but I can't believe these files- scrolls through the floating panels Shattered by one of her own soldiers- Ugh! In front of her entire entourage!?
Defense Zircon: Now, as the records show, Pink Diamond was shattered just outside a palanquin much like this. steps onto the palanquin Witnesses say Pink had just stepped out and had only taken a few steps forward when Rose attacked her from the front! [...] Defense Zircon: But the question no one seems to be asking is, "how"? Blue Diamond: I've been asking that question. Defense Zircon: A-A-A-And right you are to ask, my Diamond! B-Because at that time that Pink was shattered, Rose Quartz had been a recognized threat for several hundred years. There were no Rose Quartz soldiers in her entourage and none in her guard. So how did a Rose Quartz, with no business being anywhere near Pink Diamond, get so close in the first place? Where were Pink Diamond's attendants? Her Agates, Her Sapphires? And where was her Pearl? Yellow Diamond: They were with her, of course! They saw the whole thing! Defense Zircon: But none of them saw Rose Quartz approach? Wouldn't her Sapphires have seen Rose Quartz coming? Wouldn't her Agates have tried to fight her off? [...] Yellow Diamond: She must have slipped past them! Defense Zircon: Even if she did, wouldn't her Pearl have cried out an alarm, "Watch out, My Diamond!"
If Easthies could somehow tell Luluci was in genuine distress, why does he refuse to consider that it's logically impossible for Coco, who's only recently become an apprentice, to cast a forbidden spell as great as altering the landscape during the river incident? Why does Luluci receive so much kindness and understanding from the Knights Moralis? Why was Luluci's teacher punished even though the other abusive adult figures listed above have gotten away with mistreating youth like he did? Where was Ellien when her teacher turned Luluci in? Why did Easthies not punish the nobleman too even though he's supposed to hate sexual abuse? Why is Qifrey the one who has been working the hardest to investigate the Brimmed Caps, not the Knights Moralis even though they are supposed to enforce the law of magic?
Speaking of authority figures, I absolutely adore Atelia from Tweeny Witches. Despite her intimidating first impression and strict adherence to tradition and order as one of the highest authorities in the Witch Realm, this obscure anime goes out of its way to show glimpses of her humanity at multiple points even before the warlocks begins invading and her tragic past is revealed. The series is one of the most consistent pieces of media I've ever seen in general alongside the Moribito series and The Beast Player by Nahoko Uehashi and Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa.

witch hat atelier thoughts. spoilers up to chap. 67
i read this thing in two days.
Coco and Agott are perfect for each other and yeah they're kids but they should get married
the magic system breathes. it's so nice to see such thought, care, and love put into a quality magic system with thought of how it impacts the world
the idea of previous magic wars?? most innovations having happened but witches choosing to keep themselves in "less enlightened" times? alongside all the practical problems that presents?? thank you
all the flaws of that system being self evident by the fact that witches don't allow intervention with humans yet money and power still have influence. there's still subjugation (Custas referred to being sold?) so clearly they allow some imbalances. it's nice to see accepted hypocrisy without it being forced
all the body horror with Euini. every good magic system should enable some prime body horror and i really feel for this child.
Qifrey and Olruggio. siblings or dating. idk feels like it could go either way
oh no another white haired anime man i love (don't take Qifrey away from me)
the brimhat with the eye symbol that sold Coco her drawing book and pen definitely also took Qifrey's eye
he's such a good dad when he's corrupted or dies it's going to kill me.
Custas. this poor kid. sure it's obvious he's another of Coco's foils but even seeing the actions he takes and what he does i can't blame him. she was right. it so easily could've been here
i did forget Dana Terrace endorsed this and that there were gays.
anime adaptation? seems. labor intensive. there's such technical mastery on display with the manga im curious to see if they'll adapt it well or not
gotta look up the studio doing it later
to wrap it up i love how the story doesn't treat you like a child. characters and concepts are hinted at as you go then built on. it avoids the annoying manga trope of constant reiteration. despite Coco being in an apprenticeship you never feel like you're stuck in a classroom.
mangaka (Kamome Shirahama) also knows her pacing is up to snuff because right when something huge happens im invested in, she changes perspectives to another character ive been worried about so i can't even be mad
it's june where's the next part (take your time)

Witch Hat Atelier Volume 3 Review
Between the reviews of volumes 2 and 3, I took a break from reviewing this manga. I fortunately got Volume 3 as a birthday present from my brother back in March! Thanks, bro!
Tumblr media
I can’t help but to let out yelps every time I turn the page because this manga’s art is GORGEOUS! Like the cover page for Chapter 14? *chef’s kiss*. The cover of this volume? *chef’s kiss* Immaculate.
Chapter 12 is where Chapter 11 left off. Coco was about to get her memories erased but Tetia and Riche swoop in to save the day as well as Qifrey. They tell off the witch for being too rash with his actions. The witch examined Coco’s hands and realized that she didn’t use any forbidden magic, so they let her go while warning that there will be bigger consequences in the future.
Qifrey was proud for the girls. He even told Agott that she can take a test to rank up. Coco then tells Qifrey about the little vial of ink that she has. He noticed something off about it and holds onto it.
I really like how this chapter was written in the way that it wasn’t just Qifrey swooping in to save the day, but it was him, Tetia and Riche. You’d expect the child characters to be left out, but Shirahama gets them involved and I love that. It doesn’t make it look like they’re sidelined. I also like how Qifrey does his best to not make anyone erase Coco’s memories because he still needs clues to find the Brimhats and she’s his only lead. Coco was anxious about losing her memories because that means she’d lose her memories about her mom and the reason why she is studying magic.
I love that there is serious possible consequences for certain actions and they talked it out with reason instead of resorting to violence or magic.
Chapter 13 has Coco and Qifrey going to Kahln to meet with Mr. Nolnoa as he was the one who gave that little jar to Coco back in the first volume. His grandson Tartah brings them in. As Qifrey speaks with Nolnoa, Coco and Tartah develop a friendship as Tartah treats her wounds. However, it seems as if Tartah has issues of his own. While he is good at organizing magic material, he’s unable to differentiate color. He has silverwash, a type of colorblindness that makes a person’s vision all sorts of shades of silver. Because of this, he cannot become a full-fledged witch. Also, Qifrey did something that caused a bright light and when Tartah questioned Nolnoa, he feigns it.
I’ve always liked the Stationery shop in this story, so to return to it made me happy. I also like learning more of the world and people. Silverwash is an interesting concept and knowing that magic heavily relies on visuals does make one wonder how someone with a condition like Tartah become a witch, if it is possible.
Chapter 14 has the atelier go on a picnic. Coco learns about the five different tests in order to become a full-fledged witch; she took the first one, so she needs to take four more. The apprentices reveal about their goals with magic. Tetia wants to travel the world and help people. Riche wants to make her own magic. Agott wants to be a librarian. Coco just wants to learn more magic. It turns out that Coco’s having nightmares and it’s making her have trouble sleeping.
The picnic was nice and learning about the magic system and the girls’ goals made me feel more attached to them. Coco having nightmares about her mother’s death shows the insecurities that Coco hides within her kindness. She’s working herself so hard because she feels guilty for what happened to her mother.
Chapter 15 has Qifrey tries to uncover the mysteries of the mysterious ink in the vial that he made a mistake, causing him to get entangled in a sudden watery vortex. A Brimhat appears before him. It turns out that the mysterious ink was given to Coco by the same Brimhat watching over her.
In the morning, both Coco and Qifrey are tired. Qifrey wasted some tea leaves, so he goes out to pick some tea leaves. While the girls wait, Coco returns the Sylph Shoes back to Agott. Agott wonders why Coco’s so nice to her despite being mean to her in the beginning. Coco has no mean bone in her soul and just tells her that she didn’t want to give up.
She then faints as she’s sick! Qifrey takes her to the nearby hospital after receiving some help from Tartah.
This chapter was really interesting. Time and time again, we know that Brimhats are Qifrey’s goal because they took something from him. The fact that he missed an opportunity to confront the Brimhat caused him anguish. Qifrey’s not a good person. We’re not sure why he wants his missing item back, but we do know how dangerous these Brimhats are.
Coco and Agott’s conversation was heartwarming in a way. Agott really was mean to her in the beginning, but Coco never tattled towards her. Coco being a kind soul always moved my heart in a way. She’s super nice and all she wants is to learn magic in order to cure her mother. She can’t afford to wallow in petty rivalries and such.
Chapter 16 focuses on Coco and Tartah again. Tartah tries to help Coco after the doctors all ran off to check up on injured people from a nearby fire and they dragged Qifrey to help out. He is also an apprentice witch, but his future’s dark because of his inability to see colors. Despite this, he does his best to do things in ways he knows how. Coco, in her feverish state helps out.
Learning about how strict and prejudiced the Witch world is interesting. Just like in real life, society prefers the able-bodied, “normal” people while people who lack what is perceived as normal would be ostracized. Seeing Tartah working hard despite his disadvantages makes he hope he can become a witch someday.
Chapter 17 continues where the previous chapter left off. Coco and Tartah find the herb the latter was looking for and it helped Coco’s fever go down once a medic was able to come into the clinic wondering where her colleagues went. After Qifrey returns, Tartah asks him about the bright light, but they don’t seem to remember. In the morning, Tartah leaves for witch training, but tells Coco that she’ll become the greatest witch ever, encouraging her to keep going.
The friendship between Coco and Tartah is sweet. Coco made a friend outside out of the atelier. However, it’s not a pointless friendship as Tartah gives insight to what Coco’s missing with her glyph drawings while Coco gives insight to what he’s lacking. They work well together and it shows potential just in case there will be a time where Coco has to train outside the atelier.
It feels as if Tartah is implied to be her love interest, but it probably won’t happen. Tartah is more than just being a love interest with his silverwash storyline. He even promised to make a pen for her, so I’m sure that this pen will be her ultimate weapon. He will be important later on, I can feel it.
Overall, this entire volume was a bit slower. It’s more of a break before the big plot happens as seen at the end of chapter 17. I think this volume was necessary as it gives more insight to the world of Witch Hat Atelier and the concepts and customs. It got me engaged learning more about the lore.
The characters feel more fleshed out too, especially Coco with her inner guilt that’s causing her to have nightmares and tire her out to the point of not sleeping well. I commend Shirahama’s particular way of being very detailed, but also bringing out the whole picture. She gave Tetia some insight. She gave Riche some insight. She gave Tartah some insight. None of these characters feel sidelined and that’s a good thing. She’s giving characters as much spotlight as she can when they are in the story. I just hope she keeps this up when the story keeps going.
I can’t wait to read Volume 4. I hope we jump back into action soon!

i like how Vanitas no Carte has a main character that's a doctor who treats really weird illnesses, and Sabikui Bisco has a main character that's a doctor who treats really weird illnesses, and they're both voiced by the same exact actor, yet the two characters could not be more different from each other if they tried

Two tweets & drawings by Kamome Shirahama translated from Japanese to English. First tweet: "This is what a pointed hat looks like when I'm busy." There is a doodle of several vaguely triangular figures with no face, stick legs, and brimless witch hats. Some of them have scribbled hair poking out from under their hats. They bear a vague but recognizable resemblance to Witch Hat Atelier characters. Second tweet: "Yay yay". A doodle of Coco, Agott, Richeh, and Tetia in the same simple style wiggling & dancing around. There are music notes and the words "Yay yay" in the air around them. /End ID]

[Read] Warmth, Magic and Violence
The past few weeks I have been... Consuming a lot of entertainment from various form of medium. Mostly it's returning back to reading mangas, listening to music I used to listen to, and also... I have... I have discovered Ao3... The modern day Library of Alexandria except it's not burnt yet and hopefully not ever💀
(1) Skip and Loafer
A... A...!! I've saw the trailer for this anime several months ago. But from the premise alone I knew it's just up to my alley. It's not Shoujo per se, though the artstyle is so soft and very Shoujo-like, but it's released in a Seinen magazine. The premise is, a village bumpkin went to school in the city of Tokyo. She met her friends, crushes, experiences, stuff like that. I was about to tune in to the anime each week but being the marathon-kinda type of person, I went straight to read the manga instead. I wish it's localized in my native language so I could buy a physical copy of it😔
I love, love the pairing of Mitsumi and the aware Shima. Mitsumi isn't portrayed like usual Shoujo protagonist (fair, because it's not a Shoujo manga, though there isn't anything wrong if there's a character portrayed like that). In the sense that she's so... How do I say... Katro... She's lame, ambitious but she's also charming!! Even her face is drawn so simple too. Shima is kind of doozy, the class darling, popular, charming, but also distant. He had stuff happened in his youth, doesn't treated with proper care as a kid and stuff about his career as a model actor and that's what happened. Shima is cute. But Mitsumi is super adorable. And what I like is how they Shima can open up although slowly and learn more to experience youth and fun and stuff like that.
The series hasn't been completed yet. But I... It's just a ball of warmth and fluff. Granted there's a bit of angst and I sometimes feel like Mitsumi is very, how do I say, it's not Mary Sue, it's like... She tends to affect others rather easily. And I know, it's not supposed to be angsty and stuff. But sometime I felt like her character only sees the world confined through the lens of the all-sunshine and rainbow and everything is going to be okay. Something that is directed later on, introducing clashing perspective and a more challenging conflict for her to face on.
I don't know what I'm saying. I also love that for the anime, it's by Suda Keina!!!! ANYWAY. I usually forget to tune to monthly manga (heck, weekly manga too), but if I remember I would of course want to know how it goes.
(2) Witch Hat Atelier
Not going to lie, this title has been in my mind ever since I saw the name and the guy Qifrey around (which I personally pronounce Chifrey, although the official pronounciation is Kifrey). Uh... There's something about character with partially covered face. DO NOT PERCEIVE👁️
So. I don't know what I'm going to read about. What I know is, magic. Truthfully I have read the first chapter few years back, because I remembered the premise. But I didn't continue because there's a lot of text. I wasn't a good reader back then (even now honestly) and big chunk of paragraph in a graphic media scares me💀 But. Reading it again, I realized it's a testament of how wonderful and intricate the worldbuilding of this series is. Witch Hat Atelier follows Coco, a human fascinated by the prospect of magic. In her world, magic can be only used by Witches, something they're born with, not attained through learning. Comes an encouter that allows her to gain a peek into the possibility of a mere human learning magic.
I was hesitant to actually read through, granted I'm more of a grounded modern world romance consumer lately and this one tackles magic journeys with the main cast consist of four girls under their mage master <- Qifrey. But the art... It's so pretty😭 I love how Shirahamaさん draws and later on I also love the way she involves a very... How do I say... Some real-life issues through the lens of the magical world of WHA. Limitation of the access for knowledge (being magic) is the core issue of the manga, and as her journey goes Coco can see understand why some faction oppose to this. I don't know what I'm saying again💀
Characters! I love characterization. Curiosity and clumsiness of Coco, being introduced to a grander world and how we also see the manga from her perspective (so the author can bring us and introduce us to the world also, putting tidbits of how magic work, etc). It can be dark sometimes. One guy have his body forcefully transformed into a wolf. Another one is implied to have fused with his cat and now tries to use magic to veil his appearance instead. Implied abuse, that way-ly. Another guy have a boulder over him, permanently paralyzed his lower limbs. Another guy is dead and is being dragged one day before his death, and thus living a cycle of it being unaware. Have your enemy put forbidden magic on you, and poof! Memory cleanse! That gave me... Uh... Body horror just reading about it. It tackles a lot of elements regarding disabilities too. And it being portrayed so raw, how the world most of the times doesn't cater to accomodate them. It's endearing because I can see the author put a lots of thoughts before implementing them.
Well... What I want to say is... The scale is going bigger as we see Coco struggles with principles and morales. Qifrey's past and bigger goals. What else... I liked the lightheared segment better mostly because I'm not an angsty person but I understand plot needs to progress lol. I think the feel of it reminds me of Magi. I read that in the past. I forgot how it goes by now but vibes alone... There's also an anime adaptation soon. Life is well and good.
(3) AN ORIGINAL FIC I FOUND ON AO3. It's titled uHH
UM. I. I don't know if I should write about this because this is embarassing💀 I'll even hide the title somewhere in these paragraphs under because. WELL. Okay. As a preface... I discovered the world of Ao3. I was honestly intimidated by the tags system since people used to basically write everything in that. Not to mention I was side-eyeing so hard at how... Uh... People's fantasy can be when written in world. Like... I'm more of a cute fluff wholesome story enjoyer so... BUT... Putting that aside there's a search system with advanced filtering so poof! I pretend I do not see!
Then the first thing I searched was the Enemies to Lovers trope. DO NOT PERCEIVE💀 There's just!!! I MEAN!!! Sure there's rough path and most of the times there's angst and hatred involved BUT THE PAYOFF?!??! From the clashing dynamics to lukewarm to downright lovebirds?!?!?! Yes. Also I'm not too used to reading fanfiction of an existing story, so I was just looking for the tag Original Work also. Completed. Excluding lots of tags so that the more tame and (what I hope) fluffier and wholesome one remains.
And I do! I read lots of it but mostly one with less than 8k words. Because... Well conclusive one-shot is good! But this one... I have made a mistake. I read this one thinking it's a one-shot but noticed there's 34 chapters💀 I've read the first chapter but I was like... HOOOKED by the premise. It's just. Oh my goodness. This will be good. I knew it. AND IT DID. but. What's insane is that it's 108k words in total... As a comparison. Ari&Dante have like 60k-ish words and Eleanor Oliphant have like 90k-ish words. So I basically read this whole thing in one read in like a day💀 this is ruining my life. I love skull emoji💀
AND MAN. I'm not too fond of the main character being a guy with anger management issues but I just know seeing him more soft as I read is like... It's going to be worth it. And it is. It's. IT'S. I'm melting. I... Underlying all that I... ARSHDGAJHADGSHJRGK. Though it's like... Super slow. And I spend a third of the whole book being... When will they get to spend times together. He took so long to realize. I mean, I should've expected it reading the tags but man... The denial. they're cute. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY WITHOUT ME FEELING EMBARASSED. Just. 😭. There's this one scene after a fight because two of them doesn't want to be seen together, he walked to the house across to prove that he's not afraid of being seen together and it's so unneededly sweet😳
I... I SHOULD STOP... I JUST NEEDED TO LET IT OUT. I've read about the title and it seems like this one is published way back at 2006?ish? And it's just been reposted by the author on ao3 later at 2014. I'm...
I don't like what it implies for my wellbeing to me discovering a site where basically I can look through my favorite tropes and see fiction with that tagged in. It's not looking good💀
------------
Edit. So from what I've read the author actually planned to make a sequel for the series (Sets in college) and they actually released bits of side stories and it's so cute😭 but they didn't continue it and it's been around 7 years since the ao3 Page is updated I'm 😔no I'm actually😓
I saw some reviews on goodreads about the series... But why do these reviews seems so snobby like chill up it's a story that could be read freely and the author spend like a lot building the characters and ok opinions and stuff but 3 STARS?!?! Critics see arts in a whole different lens I'll never get them.
Anyways... I peeked a bit about their college life. What do you mean breaking up... WHAT. STOP. Stop with the realism. Most romance stories I liked and remember somehow had these points one way or another like after they got together... LIKE... this. Normal people. Aridante (2nd book which I haven't read because of this particular reason). Heck, skip and loafer. Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun. Love isn't real even in the fictional realm😔 O well... I guess it's a common mechanism to bring newer dynamics and conflicts else things would be stagnant. Not to mentions also developing each character and how they cope with it, living outside their pairing, letting them grow and be like... An individual! Like life does. But still😔

i love this page bc it's clear that shirahama treats magic as a metaphor for the artistic process, and it's honestly not often that artists and writers are so cognizant about the level of responsibility they have when publishing their works.
i cant word this well rn someone smarter than me please understand this and word it in a better way

Part of me wishes that the Knights were kept as being characters exercising the will of the corrupt society (like less focus on them as characters and more so then representing society), and they still are that to an extent. They are still looked upon in disdain by the general public and the narrative makes it clear that what they unhold is flawed as evidenced by the main characters and even a few of the member’s pasts.
It’s a complicated thing to be honest. I understand Shirahama’s urge to create complicated characters, but they could be complicated and still be characterized as being major antagonists. I hope she does keep that characterization.
Being an antagonist and being a complex, well written character are not mutually exclusive! I find there is this...weird notion in fandom that a good (= well written and/or entertaining) character must be good morally. Similarly, people tend to complexify villains by giving them surprise lore that makes them more sympathetic to the readers... But you don't have to! You can have a character be a horrible person and still be fun, dare I say likeable.
Witch hat has, so far, really shyed away from this. The Knights are shown to not act "well" explicitly, but are still presented as nice. Iguin, arguably the biggest baddie, has little depth - you know nothing about him. And smaller scale douchebags like Kukrow and Sasaran are rather flat and given the mean & ugly treatment.
I'm not up to date with the release of the japanese chapters but from my reading of the fan translations, chapters 48 and 49 accentuated the Knights being shown as biased and at times cruel. It's what I joked about with that MSpaint comic and what I meant when I said their writing had surprised me so far - while I still have minor beef with it, the nuance of their writing (especially Easthies in this case) and the themes of law enforcement VS morals are stuff I usually don't expect to be treated like this in manga. I hope she continues this way. I have mixed feelings about Lulucy and Garuga and am a bit scared about Easthies, because as much as I liked his recent writing, he seems to be the author's special little boy and I fear a favored son treatment :D
Ideally, we will get both! Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Stuff I read (and liked) this year
As promised, here’s a list of the novels, comics, manga, etc... I read this year, focusing on the ones I enjoyed and would recommend to people. Under a cut, this is going to be a little long.
-------- Books --------
Favorite book of the year: Stranger in the Woods, by Michael Finkel
Non-fiction. Based on the interviews of the man himself by the author, it is about a man who felt so unfit for society he decided one day to leave it, and spent the next 28 years as a hidden hermit in forest in Maine. The book details how he survived there, how he was eventually found, and some of his reasons for doing so. It’s a great reflection on the nature of loneliness.
Indian creek, by Pete Fromm
...Yet another detailed tale of living alone in the woods. This time, the diary of a student who spent a winter in the mountains to help tend for salmon hatchlings, and how he spent the rest of his days hiking, hunting, meeting the locals. It’s a fun little book who, being set almost the whole world away from where I live, was a nice way to travel.
Howl’s Moving Castle, by Diana Wynne Jones
I don’t feel the need to explain this one since everyone and their mom has seen the movie adapted from it. The book, that I first read a decade ago before I actually watched the film, is a less romantized, more spirited telling of the same story. The writing is absolutely delightful and so is the world it paints, and it’s the first time in ages a book had me laughing out loud during my entire read.
-------- Comics (BD) --------
Favorite comic of the year: Monsieur Désire?, by Hubert and Virginie Augustin
A discreet young woman becomes a maid for a decadent, unbearable, byronesque young lord. Caked in the rigid and oppressive social hierarchy of the victorian era, you follow a mental and verbal joust between the two, as the lord tries his best to offend and corrupt his new unrelenting servant, to little success. The writing and especially the dialogues were stellar, drawing me into the tense atmosphere, watching this trainwreck of a character flamboyantly destroy himself. While there’s no precise content warnings that I can give, this is a mature and heavy story.
World of Edena, by Moebius
Anyone who’s followed this blog for over a month knows how much of a Moebius fan I am. Edena combines the vague, dreamlike, wordless storytelling from stuff like Arzach or The cat’s eyes with an actual plot. While I haven’t completly finished the story, the evolution of the main characters and how the story is told have been great to read through, and as always the art is beyond gorgeous. Unfortunately suffers from some good old sexism in the writing that even if minimal, tasted sour
Le roman de Renart, by Joan Sfar (book 1)
Sfar’s work always has a signature vibe of being dreamy and light without being light hearted, of being down to earth but drifting in the fantastical, and this one is no exception. It’s an adaption of a series of medieval folk tales I grew up with, who uses the same characters to tell an original story. If you’re familiar with icons like Renart as well as other mythological big boys like Merlin you’ll fit right in. There is something special in how the dialogues are written, who feel natural in a way that you’d overhear in a street corner and is very special to me.
The mercenary, by VIncente Segrelles
Another one I post about a lot on this blog. The mercenary is a king on the throne of fantasy cheese. The worldbuilding is interesting at times but the writing is a pretty pathetic display of glorious old time sword and sorcery sci-fantasy 10 years too late for it’s prime (warning for ye old sexism and orientalism that plagues the genre, cranked very high...) but you come and stay for the art. The entire thing is drawn in a series of hyper detailed oil paintings with an insane eye for technical detail, from the engineering of the weaponry, to the architecture and weather, to the anatomy of the fantasy creatures... Each panel stands out as it’s own painting which makes even flipping through it without reading the scenario a treat. Click here to see more of the art, in my Segrelles tag.
The ice maurauder, by Jacques Tardi
A short story about mad scientists entirely drawn like a 19th century engraving. In great Tardi tradition everyone is ugly and mean, it ends terribly, it’s both a hommage to the genre of late 19th cent. to early 1900s dramatic adventure novels and a critical eye on it, and it’s morbidly funny. Most people I saw online hated the way this was written but I’m not them and I really recommend this book. Die mad
-------- Manga --------
Favorite manga of the year: it’s a tie between the following two.
Cats of the Louvre, by Taiyo Matsumoto
Most wonderful comic I have read in ages. The story follows a bunch of semi-feral cats secretly living in the Louvre museum’s attic, and the small group of humans who share their life, walking through the museum as the night watch. When the cats are together, they are represented in a humanoid way, but still act like animals, and “become” cats again when a human is nearby. The plot is a sort of supernatural mystery centered around a kitten who walks around paintings. It’s a love letter to art, sincere and beautiful, with a unique art style and great characters.
Memoirs of amorous Gentlemen, by Moyoco Anno
A sex worker in early 20th century paris starts writing down a diary of the clients she meets, in a quest to cope with the troubles of her life. You follow her, her colleagues, and her bittersweet relationship with an abusive lover. I don’t have much words about this comic, but the art and writing both are amazing, it’s the perfect length and drew me in like little series had before. Obvious content warnings as this is an adult story that talks about sexuality, but also depicts both mental and physical abuse.
Hana, also by Taiyo Matsumoto
A very short story, this was not made to be read as a comic originally, but served as storyboarding and visual development for a play, and the way it is written follows that. Hana is a slice of life story set in a fantasy world, of a young boy, his family, his village. Despite the setting being an original one, the character interactions are refreshingly... normal, and there is no huge plot to speak of, just a bit of the life of these characters. The art is beautiful, entirely black and white, with a scratchy style and an emphasis on contrast. Matsumoto is on a speedy road to becoming my favorite manga artist haha
Delicious in Dungeon, by Ryoko Kui
While not marked as my year’s favorite, I still consider this series among my favorite manga ever. The art and writing are amazing, and it’s both heartfelt, well concieved and plain hilarious. The story follows several parties of dungeon diving adventurers each on their little quests with a premise of our protagonists, on a panic rescue mission, surviving in the dungeon by cooking and eating the monsters they come across. From a DnD party turned cooking manual dinner of the week beginning, the plot creeps up on you and slowly thickens. I don’t want to spoil anything about the overarching story of this because it was a delight to discover for myself. While everything about DinD rules, I am especially fond of the design philosophy of the author, who puts great detail in the practicality and biology of what she draws, as well as the character writing. Everyone even side characters has so much charm and depth to them, the cast is so diverse and entertaining...! Each character is just a bit lame enough but endearing, and has their own little backstory that shows in the way they exist. It’s a delight
Chainsaw man, by Tatsuki Fujimoto
I went into CSM expecting a borderline campy hyperviolent dumb fun thing to read and was very surprised to find an uncomfortably well written story about a teenager being groomed. The hyperviolent dumb fun fights are here nonetheless and the series still qualifies as shonen for some reason, but the more mature character writing as well as some truly outlandish visuals make it something very special. If you can’t stand shonen, not sure you will like it, but if you don’t mind it, worth trying.
Witch hat atelier, by Kamome Shirahama
The oh so elegant fantasy seinen every cool kid started posting about this year, who I also succumbed to and fast. Witch hat is hard to explain, as most of it’s plot revolves around the rules of the world it’s set in, specifically the regulations around it’s magic and the social and historical reasons for them. It’s about growing up, learning, disability, making art. You follow a little girl taken in by a witch as an apprentice, her magical education, and learn little by little why her lovely teacher is so willing to break a lot of rules... While a bit too gentle and pretty for my taste at times, Witch hat has great worldbuilding and explores sensitive themes I rarely see in manga, much less in fantasy. And Berserk wishes it had art this good

this is from hours ago bc somehow tumblr hasn't crashed on me yet today and I'm just scrolling my dash, but i saw your posts about mp100 and wha and I agree so much, those pages are so cool!!! idk if you were actually looking for an answer on like what that technique is called or anything (sorry, I also don't know), but it just made think these are ways to expand the "medium" of the story, kind of beyond it's borders, by making use of the page gutters (or lack of gutters)! just wanted to say i also love it so much, it like expands out of your expectation for the normal layout (1 page, cut panels) and it's that break in the flow that sort of adds another layer to what you're feeling when looking at these images... since anime/shows generally try to fill the screen and struggle to creatively manipulate that sense of emotional/visual expansiveness, they lose a lot of that very specific impact 😭 even if the wha anime can't perfectly adapt the manga, i just hope they treat it w as much creativity as shirahama does
yeah, they do look so cool!! and same, i dont know the name of it, either 😔 i just felt dumb describing it instead of using the proper term for it (if there is one??). but yeah it really takes advantage of the fact its a comic, and does really unique things with it. for wha, the creeping... whatever is it, monstrous threat coming for our heroes and literally taking over the page looks soo good, and absolutely sets a mood for the scene. just with how anime is, they understandably cant quite do the same things normally, and it is kinda sad, but hopefully they do a good job w an alternative choice for it?

Artist spotlight: Tankitan!
✿ Commissions ✿ Pixiv ✿ Tumblr
Header source: [X]
Introduce yourself I'm a Vietnamese living in United State. I'd like to be called "The Bat", I just love bats so much, friends usually call me the lazy bat... I love pop culture, especially manga and cartoon. There are many fandoms that I'm into, but my biggest ones are Touhou Project and Fate series. When did you start drawing? Are you a digital or traditional artist? I started drawing when I was five. But I didn't take it seriously until seven years later. I'm both traditional and digital artist, but recently I've been drawing digitally more. Do you use any traditional mediums? If so, which are your favorites? I love inking and watercolor!
Why do you prefer traditional over digital? (or viceversa) I prefer digital because I it's cleaner to draw digitally. Digital can be more convenient and suitable for me. What do you think is the most challenging part about being a traditional/digital artist? Being a digital artist is very convenient but the challenging part is that you have to learn to use softwares. Unlike traditional artists, you have to find or create your own resource like brushes, texture and pattern What inspires your pieces? My favourite artists' art, things around me (plant, animal, weather, people,...), music and books!
Tumblr media
image source: [X]   Explain your "everyday" drawing process First when I come up with an idea, I tried to sketch it out immediately, though sometimes ideas just can't pop up in your head randomly so you have to generate them by tons of researches and references. Then I try to think about how should I create my piece, think about what media, traditionally or digitally, what tool I have to use, what do I want to convey in my drawing... When I start to draw, I keep my references around me conveniently and listen to some music, but sometimes I feel better to draw in silence. Since I'm still a high school student, I have other things to do so I take 30 minutes to 2 hours everyday to draw. Treating myself well is important, too. Sleep, have some snacks and relax while drawing can help motivate yourself, just remember not to overwork. Do you have an artist you admire (or more than one)?
I love Posuka Demizu's free style drawing, and various styles from 666pigeon. I'm also inspired by mangaka like Jun Mochizuki, Yusuke Murata and Shirahama Kamome! They are awesome. I have a list of my favourite artists here: http://fav.me/daepse2
Is there an artwork you are most proud of? Why? https://www.deviantart.com/tinkatiranor/art/Bhavaagra-795527609My newest piece: Bhavaagra. It's a Touhou fanart because I drew this based on a place in Touhou. I used to be afraid of drawing scenery, but I wanted to be better so I stepped out of my comfort zone and studied, practice until I can create something I'm proud of. This is it so far!
Do you listen to music (or tv shows/films/anything else) when drawing?
Mostly Touhou music and instrumental music. I have a few playlists here:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtpOXt5G9ciTRjuVt9gVqz3vey5lYRjyJ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtpOXt5G9ciQch0E8y7n3oWxCZnSKRK_c https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtpOXt5G9ciT665-WCDJ_ywWKN6P4Ic5J
Tumblr media
image source: [X]   What makes art interesting for you? Art is unlimited, unpredictable. Art gives me emotion, gives me motivation, gives me another view of anything in my life. What do you do when art block strikes? I think the best ways are surf around the Internet and try to look at others' artworks, listen to some music, read some books,... or just go to bed and take a nap like me. But before doing all those stuff, I cry first (just kidding). What’s the most valuable art advice you’ve ever received?

Brown hair anime boy characters : Our top 40+
Tumblr media
Characters from anime sporting wavering brown hair may be non-living or fictional however their impact on culture is enormous. Hairstyles, clothes and accessories, sometimes even the superpowers and weapons are usually very popular with the fan base. For instance, anime character hairstyles encourage fans to try them even without cosplay scenarios. For anime fans with brown hair or for those who are contemplating dying their hair brown, they can find some ideas from this collection that includes 40 anime character people with dark hair. Dress yourself in line with the length of your hair, facial shape and personality. You can also choose your the anime you prefer. Below is a list of our top brown-haired anime boy anime characters:
40. Sorata of Pet Girl of Sakura Hall
Tumblr media
In many ways, Sorata is one of the people who are most normal at Sakura Hall. In actual fact, in the beginning, he wants to do his best to make it to the normal dorms as Sakura Hall is filled with numerous weirdos. Yet, despite his typical appearance, he's got some peculiarities that prove that he belongs in the dorm.
39. Tabata is a character from The Daily Lives of High School Boys
Tumblr media
Tabata's design for his character is deliberate. He made him look as normal and ordinary as is humanly possible, but made him a character that is distinctly bizarre. He is known for his odd behavior however, he does it in such a normal, innocent manner that they're made appear more strange.
38. Issei of High School, DxD
Tumblr media
Although some harem kings have a harem if they are remarkable, most character creators prefer male characters in their ecchior harem series to appear extremely average-looking. One of the reasons for the success of these shows is the fact that viewers think that they be surrounded by angels and demons who are obsessed with them, too.
37. Tetsudo Hisakawa (Anohana)
Tumblr media
Tetsudo Hisakawais one of the major characters from Anohana The goofy character who is too casual to give an F about even the smallest of things. Without Tetsudo Anohana would not be as enjoyable or filled with laughter every now and every now and. Because this is the kind of person Tetsudo is. If you removed him from the photo, it will cause Anohana boring more boring and "fun".
36. Yukio Okumura (Blue Exorcist)
Tumblr media
Yukio Okumura is the annoying little brother, who is a goody-2-shoes of Rin Okumura. They're both "annoying" in their own ways. It's not a negative thing.
