Break those rules - Dean Winchester x Reader
Title: Break those rules
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader
Warnings: None
Prompt: Hey! So this is my attempt at making a request: DeanxReader where feelings have not been expressed yet. They're just researching some stuff together. The reader absent mindedly smiles when they're reading something. Deano notices. Then he just kind of jabbers about how adorable the reader's smile is. End with a kiss and finally expressed feelings maybe? I wrote a short little writing prompt kind of like this on my blog. (It's near the bottom if you want a better idea for the request) Thanks! xxx
Tumblr media
“I don't get why Sam has to get away with only three hours of research and I am stuck here for the fifth hour. In a row.” Dean said with a rather heavy, and even more dramatic, sigh as he flipped open another book and rested his chin on his palm.
“Stuck here huh? Wow, way to make me, and the company I offer you, feel so flattered, Winchester.” you said as you looked up at him through your lashes. He couldn't see much of your face as you kept focus on the book before you but that didn't mean he couldn't hear the obvious playfulness that laced your voice or nearly feel, let alone imagine, the small smirk that tucked at the corner of your lips.
“You know what I mean.” and still, despite your easiness, he couldn't help but feel a pang in his chest if only for the pout you gave him – playful or not – and he rushed to speak again “To tell you the truth, being in your company does make it ten times better and always worth it, but-” he raised a finger “That's still not enough to make up for...” he looked down at the books, his face a mix between horror, disgust and exhaustion as he said “This. And besides, we're not even making progress as it is. Field work could do much more or say if it was more than just the two of us here, there could be en end to... this.”
“This-” you tried to mimic his tone “Is what we can only do now, I am afraid, no field work left. And to answer your previous question: Sam gets away with three hours because he's already read through his part of books. Meanwhile you are stuck over that book for the past hour. And you're not going anywhere before you read the rest either. Stop stalling.”
“Then stop being so distracting, for a change yeah?” he couldn't help but mumble as he rested his chin on his palm and slid a little bit down his seat.
“How? I didn't even start this in the first place!” you protested, eyes wide.
But certainly not as wide as his when he realized the words had really slipped past his lips “What- n-no, I- I didn't-” he started but actually stopped himself “Well, actually-” he felt bold, maybe even looked like it and hopefully - he prayed to any deity that didn't hold a grudge on him and that was listening - that he looked confident as he imagined in his head; or at least the part of his head where he wasn't freaking out “You heard me. It would be much easier to focus if you weren't so distracting.”
“Do tell? And what is so distracting about what I said? Seeing as you were the one to start this conversation.” you asked with a small smirk, ready to sass him out of anything that he could come up with, just like you'd done so many times before. Or so you expected.
“Nothing.” he shrugged, face mostly neutral save for the casual half smile “It's not what you said. It's not anything you did either. It's just you being you. You're distracting. I just look at you and get carried away in an instant. Sometimes you're so distracting I can't even get my thoughts in an order, let alone focus on research. So, no, really you are the only one to blame here. But ain't that in the best way possible, huh sweetheart?” he asked with his smile turning into a grin.
He was proud at himself for getting it all out without a single stutter and even more praising himself deep down for not showing any of the panic he was feeling, slip through. Because oh there were all kinds of red lights and sirens going off in his head at the moment; he was freaking out not only at this newfound surge of bravery but also at the words that were really coming out of his lips in this very moment. Why now, when after all this time he had held them back along with his infatuation- schoolgirl crush, Sam would say and he would be 100% right about it even if Dean never admitted it out loud. And even more he was proud with himself for - by whatever miracle - how it did sound like he was flirting and not struggling to be a human. So much so that he huffed his chest out a bit, thinking that if today was the day - and it seemed so because of how he really was on a roll - then so be it. He had not had any previous signs to you being interested in him as he was in you, sure, and for that he feared he probably was simply stupid and not brave but there was really no taking it back now and for the first time he didn't feel like it.
“I-” you started, blinking several times as you looked at him carefully an for a couple dreadful moments of silence when he nearly felt like caving in because of his panic, Dean held his breath, and listened as you spoke up again “Are you for real? I- I mean are you- Dean-” you huffed, your eyebrows pulling into a frown and your lips almost forming a pout that was the exact definition of distracting he was referring to “Seriously, this is not funny at all. If you wanna joke around here then-”
“Joke?” he breathed out before you could get to continue with your words, let alone thoughts “Why would I? No, no. I'm being absolutely honest here.” he shrugged so casually he might have patted himself on the shoulder for the achievement if you weren't there, and if he wasn't so distracted once more by seeing the way your eyes widened and you then blinked before looking down shyly.
And he continued “Sweetheart, I don't get to tell you often and shame on me for that but with Sammy all the time in the way I can't express myself so I'm just gonna go ahead and say it: You're so beautiful that everything you do is distracting to me, even just being in my presence. Sometimes you struggle with that, I get it, given the job we do. But don't let anyone tell you different, because all of it only makes you even more special. Thought-” he shrugged with an easy smile, looking back at his book as if it was nothing, as if he wasn't in a struggle with his very own self to just look at you at all time just to not miss a single reaction “You should probably know that. Not that you're not already aware but I suppose... since we're making small talk. And just so that I let you know, that there is nobody else I'd rather be stuck doing research with.”
Your lips fell apart and the soft sound of “Oh. Oh I- oh.” escaped past them before silence set in the room, one that he enjoyed a little too much as he looked up at you through his lashes only to see you shift and play nervously with your clothes or the pages of your book. You kept opening and closing your mouth before you ended up clearing your throat and straightened your back to look straight at him.
He did the same, meeting your eyes with the most straight face he could master “Yes? Something the matter?”
“No, I- I just- Well-” you cleared your throat again, shifting in your seat “Thank you for- for...”
“For?” he inquired and you shot him a half-hearted glare that melted so soon into the sweetest look he ad ever seen on your face.
“That. What you said. You know what you just said. I don't have to repeat it.” you said so fast, a small huff leaving your lips “A-and I appreciate it. So thank you for it.” your eyes fluttered down to your hands before you shifted in your place “But still-” you gave him a stern look as if to brush the whole topic off; it was the easiest thing when you didn't know how to respond and your whole face felt as if it was on fire “That ain't gonna cut down any research for you. You've gotta get through those books and you won't leave this place until you're done.”
“I wasn't looking for any special treatment.” he shrugged all innocent.
“Good.” you said stubbornly “Bause you ain't getting it. So quit the sweet-talking me and get back to work.”
“Fine, fine!” he raised his arms in surrender, looking down at the book but not stopping the mumbling, loud enough for you to hear “Since when did speaking the truth turn into sweet-talking, I had no idea.”
“Quit it, Winchester. Or else I'll throw this book at you and it will definitely not be a happy ending for you.” you tried to say seriously, putting on a stern face but only for the sake of seeming determined and unaffected; despite what your eyes told him at that moment.
“Fine, fine.” he sighed dramatically “Not that I'm stalling but you just should wear those jeans more oft-” he paused when you narrowed your eyes at him and he rolled his “Alright. They look great on you but I get it. No telling the truth today. Back to work.”
“You're unbelievable sometimes.” this time you scoffed a laugh, shaking your head and he didn't fight his own grin especially as you muttered “Idiot.” at him.
He hummed, this time not looking up at you as he whispered “I am.” and let the comfortable silence fill the room, calming the both of you as you went back to work. Dean even more so than you because - as far as he was concerned - he needed it more than anything.
Surprised and proud as he was at himself for getting all of that out, he still was a mess of emotions all of which refused to die down, and could feel his heart hammering in his chest, his pulse so intense that he felt it to the end of his very own fingertips. And better not get started with the way he could feel a familiar heat spread all the way up his neck, to the tips of his ears and dangerously close to the rest of his face, making him wish that it was at least not obvious to anyone that would look, which really only meant you.
With his head still very much in the clouds, feeling high and dizzy on emotions if not somewhat filled with the aftermath of adrenaline from what could only be an almost-confession, he found himself only skipping through the words, barely paying any attention to them. His fingers played with the pages as he basked in the warmth and comfortable feeling of this newfound silence. It was like coming home after a long time and soaking in the comfortable and familiar warmth of one's bed.
As the words before his eyes blurred for what seemed like, at least, the tenth time in only a couple minutes, he decided that that was it. His mind was running with so many thoughts that he couldn't help it; he wanted to steal another look at you after this endless and at the same time too short silence. Chewing on his lower lip he slowly tore his eyes away from the text and took a good look at you, shameless about it as he should be, as he had every right to be and he wouldn't let anybody tell him otherwise. He was in love, goodness how crazy it was to even think about it, and by the looks of it – by some crazy chance even better – it seemed like there was hope for him that you might feel something for him too.
So why even try to hold back from taking it all in?
The grin on his face only got wider, much as he tried to hold it back, when he saw you pause. Your eyes clearly moved away from the page, deep in thought and with your chin resting on top of your palm. You could very easily hide it if you wanted to, but that didn't seem the case and so Dean could see fully the beautiful smile that graced your lips. Whether it was at something you had just read or because of something he'd previously said he didn't know and frankly it didn't matter. Because the moment he saw that smile his entire mind went blank, there was nothing that it could come up with... unlike his mouth, that is, which had plenty to say apparently.
Gosh how can that smile not turn even the worst tortures to the sweetest thing in the world? It's just so damn beautiful, that I know there's not a single thing I wouldn't do for it. Hell, the moment I saw it for the first time I knew I was a gonner, fell stupidly head over heels for you as anybody else would and the more I got to know you, the more I got to see that smile the more clear it was to me that those feelings were there to stay. And so they have. I knew I would do anything in my power to see it again but to go to such extents? “Hell, sweetheart, I'd climb over freakin' mountains just for that smile and I ain't just getting poetic, you know I never could. There are always different kinds to it that I don't know how you do it but this- this right here is my favorite. It's so free and so true and so damn adorable and you almost try to hide it sometimes and shit that makes me angry at who could have ever made you believe it is not gorgeous enough to show but also so damn stubborn too, to take it upon myself to make you smile like that every freakin' day of your life. I won't get shit done, I know, because it's just so distracting but heavens-” he breathed out, not clear where the air even came from after all the rambling “That smile is worth all of the stars, sweetheart.”
A heavy albeit not uncomfortable, by any means, silence hangs in the room once more after Dean's done with his rambling. He didn't even realize it as the word poured out of his lips, heavens out of his very own heart and soul is better, right there for you to hear, just as he didn't realize the second you stopped looking at the book. Your eyes were currently on him, wide and beautiful as always, blinking in surprise even after you thought that there was nothing that Dean could do that could surprise you more today.
But as the realization downed on Dean, it didn't leave a pleasant shock but rather a chilling one; the same one would get after an ice bucket being dumped on them. Not that he was willing to let you know that, so instead he gave you an awkward smile and asked “...Did I just say that out loud?”
He did, after all, hope that by some high power you hadn't heard a thing and that it was all still words in his head and not a confession – although very much needed – probably poorly-timed.
“I-” your lips parted as you blinked several times in disbelief “Y-yes-” your voice cracked a little “Yes you actually did.”
“O-oh o-ok c-cool.” but not as much as his did, before he cleared his throat “Cool. That's uh terrific... Embarrass myself more than I have in my entire life in the span of half an hour. Way to go Dean.” he mumbled the last part to himself as he looked away from you and down at his book with wide eyes.
“I mean I-” you chewed on your lower lip before you straightened your back a bit more and look at him with a bit more confidence “I would have interrupted you but for one I wanted to hear all of it, seeing how adorable you were being it was a sight for sore eyes, and for another there is a date rule I must keep up with so-” you shrugged but it was anything but innocent with the smile you were sporting.
Not that any of it mattered, because one thing registered above all “Dating? What dating? And what kind of rules?”
“Sadly we don't have a dictionary here but I'm sure you can guess, pretty boy. And as for rules well it goes like: kiss on the first date, everything else after the third date.” you rested your chin on your palm again and looked him in the eyes “Wouldn't wanna break that one, no matter how tempted I was to shut you up with a kiss, you bloody idiot.”
“...You're kidding me right now, right?” his eyes were wide and he only managed to get the words out after a good few seconds of silence. Minutes probably.
“Alright, yes, maybe we do need that dictionary. Listen, I'm gonna put it as simple as possible and pray that that wonderfully smart yet so very stupid brain of yours gets it: You take me out on a date and you can get to be as distracted as you wanted by my smile. Stare at it, kiss it away only to kiss it back up on my lips. Anything you want. Because I've been waiting for too freaking long for you to say these things and I'm done beating around the bush. I am coming clean. I have feelings for you too, Dean.”
Again silence before “...As in for real?”
“Couldn't get any more real. Always had them.” you smiled, this time actually shyly at him.
Pause, a long pause actually, and he blinked rapidly before asking “This is really not you trying to, I don't know, let me down easily or something?”
“Absolutely not, why would I? I meant everything I say.”
“So that means-” he actually held his breath, feeling his head beat so hard it would almost break out of his chest “Are we... you know?”
Your smile turned into a more teasing one, almost a smirk as you shrugged “Only after the first date.”
“So if I did happen to ask you out now, you would...?” he had to be sure this wasn't some kind of dream.
“Say it would be my pleasure.” you nodded your head.
“And- one more question, just-” he raised a finger, taking a calming breath in even if it was a bit shaky “...So long as there's say beer and maybe burgers that's...?”
“The perfect kind of date for me, you know i-”
“Awesome!” his eyes widened and he jumped up from his seat with a grin on his face.
“But not while doing research!” you said fast enough before he could get much further away “No beer and burgers while researching is not a date.”
“Not even a little?” he asked and you shook your head “...Then can research itself maybe be?”
“Absolutely not.” you said despite the pout he was giving you. It did make things harder.
“...But what if I maybe, really wanna get a kiss right now? What do I have to do to get that kiss?”
“Guess what?” you grinned and you could see the hope in his eyes before you made it vanish into thin air “Research!”
“More books, yay!” he said with a huff, his arms falling by his side as he made his way back to his seat “Of course it's books.” he groaned and you couldn't help your grin “But really... nothing else? I know your smile makes it all worth it but honey... this is the worst kind of torture!”
“Alright you big child come here. Can't believe you're making me break my rules.” you sighed with a shake of your head “Just one, for getting this far with research, as a reward.”
“Oh you know I love rewards.” he grinned “How about one about every book I read? And if it ends up otherwise, oh well, Sammy can handle the case alone right?”
“Don't push your luck, Winchester.”

As soon as they arrived in Australia, Marines were immediately taken to a huge football field where each of them found themselves a place to lay down and rest a little bit.
The hot sun was shining, not a single cloud could be seen, no rain. Everything was all right at the moment. Nobody was shooting at them, they didn't have to crouch in their foxholes, aim their machine guns at people. They weren't covered from head to toe in mud.
And still, they felt more exhausted than they did at Guadalcanal.
"Come here, baby. Let's get some rest." Bill Hoosier whispered and lifted up his blanket for Y/N to lay down next to him. She snuggled to his side and rested her head on his right arm. She felt him pulling her closer. Bill pressed his dry lips on her forehead. "Try to catch some sleep, honey." he mumbled into her skin and made himself a little bit more comfortable. Y/N lifted herself up on her elbow and looked at the calm man next to her with a loving smile. She gently brushed his hair with her fingers and Bill moaned quietly in satisfaction. Y/N chuckled but didn't stopped. Playing with his hair calmed her down just like it calmed Hoosier.
"Does anything hurt you?" she whispered and looked worriedly at him as he wasn't moving or talking at all. "My whole freaking body hurts, Y/N. I just want to sleep." Bill almost growled but she knew he didn't mean it in a mean way.
Y/N put her finger in the middle of his forehead, "Does it hurt here?" Bill slightly shook his head in disagreement and she pressed a gentle kiss on the spot. "And here?" she whispered and pointed at the top of his nose. "No." he rasped so she didn't wait any longer and kissed him there playfully. Hoosier let out a small laugh and cup her cheek, "Gosh, I love you so much."
Y/N returned back the smile and continued where she ended, "And here?" She gently ran her thumb over his lower lip. Bill closed his eyes and his mouth formed into the most beautiful smile she'd ever seen. "I'll take that as a yes." she chuckled and kissed him in the softest way possible, it almost seemed their lips didn't touch at all. Bill's hand found its way into her hair and pulled her closer to him in order to deepen the kiss. Their lips were dry but they melted into each other's touch. It was such a precious moment for both of them and either Y/N or Bill didn't want to pull away from the other one.
Hoosier smiled into the kiss and pressed his lips for the last time on hers as he whispered, "As much as I love doing this, we better catch some sleep, love."
•••
It was a beautiful warm evening and they got furlough till midnight. A slight breeze was dancing on her Y/H/C hair and her eyes fluttered every time she breathed out.
Bill Smith wasn't sleeping anymore. All of the boys went in the town already and they were the only ones there. "Y/N," he whispered softly and stroked her cheek, "wake up. I've got a surprise for ya."
She thought she'd never hear this kind of a sentence from Bill. He was the type of guy who rarely did something romatic. Of course, Hoosier loved her more than he wanted to admit but he'd given that up a long time ago. He knew she was special the moment he saw her standing on the goddamn island in the middle of Pacific, holding a rifle and covered in mud from head to toe.
Y/N saw Bill for the first time a little bit later than that. They were together in the company but she had her group, although she was friends with Sidney Phillips, and he had his group. However, one day Y/N decided to talk to Sid. She found him in his tent with only two of his friends - Robert Leckie and Bill Smith. Since that day, they'd been aware of each other, Bill definitely more than her. But when they got stucked next to each other during one of the many battles at Guadalcanal, something happened. Both of them saved the life of the other one. They knew they can rely on each other, they began trusting each other and slowly grew closer and closer. All of the boys didn't miss out the opportunity of teasing Bill for it, especially Leckie because he thought they're gonna be together when he not so politely declined Runner and his offer.
Hoosier saved her life and Y/N saved his. A love was born that day, when bullets were flying back and forth and the only hope they had was their rifle and the fella next to them. It was almost unbelievable that something so pure and beautiful could exist in the most disgusting mash of death and bloodshed the world has ever been in.
•••
It was almost 7 in the evening when Hoosier stopped and put his hand away from her eyes in order to clear her view.
The sun was setting behind the ocean horizon and some of its last rays were dancing and sparkling on the water surface so it almost looked like there were millions of stars floating on the ocean. The sky was filled fluffy white clouds, red, orange, yellow, purple, pink, blue colors were matching all together and created a beautiful painting.
"Can I talk to you or do you need a moment?" Hoosier chuckled and hugged her from behind. "Don't you want to look at the beauty of the world? Something like this can't be seen really often in times like these." she questioned him and placed a quick kiss on his cheek. "The view is pretty but I think you're prettier, Y/N." he whispered and pulled her even closer to his body as if he never wanted to let her go.
"This sentimental Hoosier is news to me and I love it." Y/N laughed and turned around to face him. Bill was grinning widely and she thought that this is probably the first time she'd seen him so damn happy and smiling like an idiot so often.
"Don't get used to it." Bill warned her playfully and kissed her softly. "I got something for you." he mumbled and began to search for something in his pocket.
"Okay," Hoosier cleared his throat and shuddered to get rid of his rising nervosity, "please don't take this as a marriage proposal, I'm planning on doing that the moment we get home but I saw this in a shop yesterday and I just wanted you to have it." Bill took her hand in his and slipped a simple narrow golden ring on her finger.
"I will never take it off, Hoose." Y/N whispered and smiled as she was viewing the thoughtful gift.
A silence fell upon them. The music of the sea was playing them a slow song and Y/N pulled Bill for a hug. "Thank you."
"No worries. But we should get back. I'm starting to get really cold."
"And I thought you've gone soft."

When Clocks Strike
The first imagine for my New Year Celebration comes our way! It also happens to be my first one for Logan (so I'm kinda nervous about it). I had an idea of New Year proposal in my head and decided to combine it with one of the requests. Thanks to the anon, who sent this request for Logan with the following prompts:
16. "I'm stuck on you and there's no way you're getting rid of me any time soon."
37. "It seems to me that you like causing troubles."
I hope you will enjoy what's written below. And Happy New Year, guys!
Tumblr media
It was just the right time to do it, Logan thought, looking at a red velvet little box in his hand. The best opportunity that couldn't have been missed. Logan has been thinking through every step of what he was about to do for the last two weeks. He needed to make sure everything will go perfect, that his plan wouldn't have any flaws. He actually found it quite stressful, getting ready, but you were definitely worth it.
Logan had never thought in his life that he will actually say this, but he was going to propose to you. Since the moment he met you a year and a half ago, he kinda knew it was coming. You were too good to be true — Logan had to admit it, reluctantly at first, but had to. Before you he never had a serious relationship and didn't plan to have one. And now he was sitting in his office, looking at the beautiful diamond ring that was soon to be shining on your finger — if you will say 'yes', of course.
Not that Logan doubted your agreement on his proposal, he knew you loved him, and a million times he proved to you that he wasn't that careless and borderline sex-addicted man you met more than a year before. But still he was nervous. This step in your relationship seemed very hard to reach, it was important and lifechanging, and deep down in his soul Logan was hesitating throughtout the whole period of preparing. What if you think he's too quick? What of you think he's not serious? These rather unpleasant thoughts ate Logan from the inside while he was sitting in a chair in his office and looking through the window on a snow-covered city.
This year winter hit everyone in the face right after Christmas. No signs of snow on the 25th of December — and in the morning of the 26th you woke up to see nothing but white surface of snow outside. Every day since then it has been snowing like crazy. Today, on New Year's Eve, weather blessed you with even more snow — huge snowflakes have been flying in the air since early in the morning and you were more than happy to walk through this white and cold madness. Your mood today was on the highest level, as your favourite holiday was coming, today's evening there was a huge party connected with it and Logan and you were to attend it.
Now you were walking along the busy streets to meet your friend, Maddie, and go for a shopping. You needed to buy a dress for today's evening. Until yesterday you were totally sure you had one, but as it turned out, your wardrobe didn't contain anything suitable enough for a festive banquet. You immidiately called your best friend and she, of course, agreed to help you.
Your phone called. You smiled at the sight of Logan's face on the display.
"How's my little doll doing?" you heard his voice on the other side of the line as you took the call.
"Will you ever stop with those pet names?" you asked and heard Logan chuckling. "I'm just great. How about one very annoying but still loved motherfucker?"
"He's doing fantastic, but can we just appreciate your first curse word of the year?" Logan's grin could've been heard even through the phone. "I'm impressed, Y/N, honestly."
"And it's most probably the last one of the year too, so don't celebrate it too much!" you replied. "There are simply no more words to describe you other than... that one I previously said."
Logan merely laughed in response.
"You could try lovely, handsome... Smart also works."
"A lovely, smart, undoubtedly handsome motherfucker, is that alright?"
"See! The second curse word from you, honey!"
"You made me!" you protested, probably too loud as some people turned their heads to see who's screaming.
"And I'm kinda proud of myself for that, to be honest."
"Okay, I should really stop talking to you now, you make me do terrible things. A dozen of random people are terrified of me from now on because I'm so loud."
"You better be loud somewhere else, doll. Our bed is the best option, I reckon."
You could envision Logan's smirk right now and couldn't help but giggled.
"Oh, shut up! Save your dirty jokes for later."
"I'm looking forward to that 'later', darling."
"Okay, stop!" you exclaimed, pretending to be angry, but you both knew you couldn't actually be so. "I'll hang up and leave you to have a think through with yourself about your unbelievably naughty behavior."
"I bet you have heard much more naughty things from me though."
"I have indeed."
Five minutes after your call ended, you finally met Maddie.
"What's that huge smile on your face about?" she asked, hugging you.
"Just in a good mood," you answered, hugging her back. "You know, New Year and stuff."
"Fair enough." She nodded and you both approached a huge shopping centre you were originally planning to visit.
As soon as you walked in, your eyes widened at a great variety of shops there and there. You sighed, realising that you would probably end up in the last one, having previously visited every single one. But that was the main joy of shopping, how Maddie told you once.
"Ready to hit that place?" she exclaimed excitedly at the meantime.
"Born ready," you replied, a grin forming on your lips. Your tonight's dress will amaze everyone, it's for sure.
It was, as you predicted, the last shop you walked into where you found the particular dress you needed. Nothing in those visited before caught your attention, although a great choice was provided. Some were too short, some were too long, and when you thought you have found just the right one, none of your size existed. You almost gave up when you glanced at some shop-window and saw it. The best dress you could ever imagine you would wear. You looked at Maddie with amusement in your eyes, she returned the exact same look and at the same time you rushed to the clothes store that owned this piece of art.
"Isn't it, um, a bit too revealing?" you asked Maddie hesitantly, looking at yourself in the full-length mirror in front of you.
"Not in the slightest," she said reassuringly, eyeing you from the bottom to the top. "It reveals everything that needs to be revealed. Don't worry."
"Are you sure? Absolutely sure?"
A silver dress, halfway to your knees, was flowing down your body, emphasizing all the right parts of it. Narrow straps, decorated with rhinestones, crossed your shoulders. The main feature of this dress though was an opened back. That's what put you off at first. It was opened to the point of everyone being able to see your bare waist and you weren't used to this kind of clothes at all.
"Logan will like it, that's what I'm sure about," Maddie said, checking you out all over again. "And you look stunning, dear."
A thought of Logan seeing you in this dress was something that convinced you to make a purchase. He will totally like it, you thought, taking out your credit card.
Later, when it was already dark outside, you stood in front of the mirror at yours and Logan's shared bedroom, looking at yourself being fully ready for the party. You didn't let Logan look before you were finished, so he was yet to be amazed. Or at least you hoped he would.
What happened ten minutes later, reminded you of a typical, cliche New Year couple situation, when the girl walks downstairs and the guy looks at her with parted lips and widened eyes.
"I have to admit, I'm getting jealous of myself," Logan said as you came up and gave him a light kiss on the lips. "You look hella gorgeous, doll."
"And you fit me quite well," you answered, pointing at his white suit. "Just as gorgeous."
"I'll take it as the best compliment."
While you were driving to the place where the party was, Logan hadn't said anything. He became nervous all of a sudden. It was too often today that he got nervous, and it scared him as it wasn't in his nature at all. When he saw you in that beautiful dress of yours, he was stricken and a thought of you rejecting him crossed his mind. Was he good enough for you after all? Was he the right person?
He should have waited until the clocks strike twelve tonight to find out the answer.
The party was a hive of activity when you two arrived. You were met by yours and Logan's friends, hosts of the party, who immidiately gave you two glasses of champagne, complimenting on your dress, and fastly disappeared. It was half an hour before New Year when you found yourself in the corner of the room, bored and alone. Where Logan went, you didn't have an idea of, he just disappeared without telling you anything.
You almost lost your patience and was ready to leave when you heard someone.
"Won't you mind going with me right now?"
And of course, who could've it been other than Logan. You didn't even have time to argue when he grabbed you by the hand and soon you were rushing up the building along the metallic stairs.
"Where the hell have you been?"
You, honestly speaking, wanted to punch Logan in the face.
"You'll see," he answered with a mischievous smirk on his face.
You rolled your eyes. How Logan-like were his actions now!
"You better put this on, honey," the man said, stopping for a second and giving you a jacket from his suit.
"What do you mean by this? Why would I need to?"
"Well, if you want to freeze to death, you wouldn't. But keep in mind the fact that I still need you."
"We're going outside? What's going..."
You didn't have the time to respond as Logan threw the jacket on you and opened the door that you haven't noticed before. A cold breath of wintery air touched your face and you couldn't help but shivered. Logan looked at you, grinned and offered you his hand.
"There are literally ten minutes before New Year, what are we doing on a roof of a skyscraper? Are we even allowed here?"
"I don't think so." The grin on Logan's face became bigger.
"It seems to me that you like causing troubles," you replied. "The hell's..."
And you weren't able to finish the sentence again, when you walked a bit further and a beautiful sight appeared in front of your eyes. The whole city was enlightened, snow was falling from the sky and making the view even better.
You felt Logan's body pressing to yours from behind and smiled.
"That's... incredible," you muttered in amusement. "If it wasn't for me being really cold now though..."
"Oh, yes," Logan quickly pulled away, grabbed your shoulders and turned you so that he could see you. "I'll do it fast then."
"Do what? What do you have in mind?"
"Y/N," Logan began, his voice breaking all of a sudden. That was the moment he has been waiting for and afraid of at the same time. "It's hard for me to say those words that I'm about to say. I have never imagined in my mind that I would say them to any girl. Never in a million years."
"I already feel honoured," you couldn't help but joke.
Logan didn't seem to pay attention though.
"I bloody love you and it's not the first time I'm telling you that. But now it's... more special, I think. You're beautiful, you're amazing, you're fantastic, you're the best all in all. And you deserve to be reminded of it every single day of your life."
You gasped, covering your mouth with your hand as you saw a little red velvet box that Logan took out of his pocket.
"And I'm planning to do so until I... die probably. But I strongly doubt death's ability to separate us, you know."
Tears started tickling your eyes when Logan bowed down on one knee in front of you.
"You're of color blue by now so let's wrap it up. Y/N, will you marry me?"
Here, he said it. Logan felt his heart beating so fast it could probably jump out of his chest. What if you said no?
"Yes," he hardly heard from above. "Yes!" you exclaimed louder, your voice trembling from happy tears running down your cheeks.
The next thing you felt was a golden ring slipping down your finger and warm arms wrapped around you.
People on the lower floor started their count to New Year's Day.
10... 9...
"Can you even realize how scared I was?"
"There were no reasons to be so. I love you madly."
8... 7...
"Now I'm only left to hope it's a forever thing."
"Don't even try and doubt. I'm stuck on you and there's no way you're getting rid of me any time soon."
6... 5...
Logan leaned closer to you and you felt his breath on your lips.
"Isn't it the best way to meet the new year?"
"It is indeed."
4... 3...
You felt Logan's lips on yours, his hand on the back on your neck, another hand gripping your waist.
2... 1...
Fireworks lit up the sky but you didn't care. To the loud shouts beneath you kissed, so sweet, gentle and passionate at the same time that you didn't want this moment to end.
"Happy New Year, love."
"Happy New Year, my lovely motherfucker."
“Starting New Year cursing are we?“
“Your bad influence, dear.“
