So we are! This is going to be entirely on Sinnoh, Ranger / Sky, and the movies up to the end of Gen4, because that's all I've ever actually played / watched. :p

❤ Favorite Male: So I really wish this was the last one, not the first one, because [sighs] Commander Saturn. I want to say Sven, I really do, but no, it's fucking Saturn. Why? Because when I was in third grade me and Paige both loved Saturn, but he was such a gay twink that all of our stories focused on humiliating him because neither of us were old enough to simply decide this man should get pegged. So he has a special place in my heart. The gayest, most useless fucking twink in all of Sinnoh. ❤ Favorite Female: May and Dawn, at the same time. Don't make me choose. If I had to, I'd probably go with May because she had a Blaziken, but I love them both. I don't have much to say on them, other than I wish they'd come back, but I love them. ❤ Favorite Pairing: Everyone's expecting me to say Team Rocket. Fair. But no. I think Ash, Roark, and Paul (tragically anime-only) should kiss. I remember very little of Paul other than he was the brooding rival where Barry was an idiot, and he was pretty. Now, if we're doing the OG Pokemon shipping, Absol/Lucario. This is because I am an Absol and Faolan is a Lucario. Obviously. ❤ Least Favorite Character: Barry, Alberto, and Sven's Luxray. Barry was annoying and I wish the rival in Sinnoh was Paul. Alberto is Barry but worse, but also he was weird towards Alice so fuck that guy. (Iirc, Alice was engaged to him via arranged marriage, but also fuck that guy.) Sven's Luxray can get fucked because she was between me and Sven and I'm sorry, if you didn't want me to hold that grudge for three thousand some-odd years, you'd get Out Of My Way And Let Me Fuck Your Ranger. Jfc. Fuck that Luxray. ❤ Who’s most like me: Well, me. I'm in a Special Mission in Shadows of Almia, alongside Ryan the Umbreon. Obviously. But not what you were asking, so... I have no idea, actually. Pokemon doesn't really flesh out its characters, so that's not easy to identify. Actually, on second thought, the Metagross trainer girl from the Deoxys movie, and her buddy with the Blaziken. Combine them into one person and that's probably the closest you'll get to me as a Pokemon trainer. Although if I went back as a human, I'd be a Ranger. (Although if I went back at all, you'd assume I'd go back to being an Absol.) ❤ Most attractive: Sven, Sir Aaron, and Riley. I think you can sense a pattern here on both my taste in men and my taste in Pokemon cosplayers. Sven, for reasons I think I've already explained. Sir Aaron was kind of a dick, honestly, but he was also hot. Riley is Sir Aaron but more autistic and also not a dick, so I mean, high five bro. ❤ Three more characters that I like: Oh, hmmm. Cyrus is really good, so is Butler from the Jirachi movie. Entei from the Entei movie was amazing. Arceus from his own movie made me cry like a bitch because he reminded me so much of Vicers. Giratina, also from his own movie, was such a mood. Zero, same movie, was such an incel I couldn't help but love him. The side character trainers from the Deoxys movie were all collectively good. But a special goddamn shoutout to Palkia's voice actor in Rise of Darkrai, because I don't fuckin know how they did it, but Palkia speaks like a Californian surfer guy, and that's the funniest fucking thing this Absol has ever heard.

Like for example my favorite one of all time is a tie between the first 2 pokemon movies and my favorite of the movies that take place in the sinnoh region is Rise of Darkrai. You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for someone to point that out. I’ve done so much foreshadowing with Professor Oak in several chapters waiting for this moment. He has been dropping so many hints since baby girl first met her Eevee. Alsjsksnsks. Thank you!!!!!

Also, I haven’t seen all the Pokémon movies, though most I don’t remember because I was really little at the time, but I do really enjoy Mewtwo Strikes Back (made my grandma watch it with me today actually, lol), Mewtwo Returns and, well, Celebi 4Ever… save for the goofy 3D effects. Though that last one is probably obvious due to the Professor Oak hints. 🤣 Dan Green as Mewtwo makes my Yu-Gi-Oh loving heart very happy.

My favorite is definitely Detective Pikachu (also rewatched that one today) though, simply because A) Ryan Reynolds and B) THE POKÉMON ARE SO PRETTY AND MY TREE TURTLES AND TREE GECKOES AND TREE FROGS ARE SO CUUUTTEEEEEE. I would adopt all the Torterras in the Torterra Garden. I don’t care if I’d just be an ant in size compared to them. They are my babies. My very big, tree turtle earthquake causing babies. Treecko deserved more screen time, though. :(

I very vaguely remember the Girantina movie (?) and I know I watched the Latios/Latias one… but I didn’t really like them turning to stone at the end. Made me big sad. I need to rewatch the others. 😅

Oof. It’s been a while. I remember Girantina being mad because Palkia and Dialga were fighting in a previous movie (maybe the Darkrai one?) and that their anger carried over into a second movie. Hence why the gang ends up in the distortion world. Or maybe I’m wrong. I dunno. Either way, I need to rewatch them. 🤣

Ok so tonight our internet was down, so I rewatched my Pokemon movies and I honestly forgot how good Rise of Darkrai is. It reminds us that Darkrai is not evil, it isn't even that aggressive, it just doesn't have the best way of dealing with things. (I think attacking Palkia is actually how Dialga found it and restarted the fight, though I could be wrong).

It also reminds us in the opening that Pokemon battles are fun for both trainer and Pokemon! Everyone looks so entertained, I love it

I also forgot the Dialga was actually the more aggressive Disaster Twin in this movie. Palkia actually ran away and hid because it was hurt, which by all means should have been a surrender, and Dialga kept chasing it. They both started the fight, don't get me wrong, but I noticed Dialga just would not let it go until the song was played and it calmed down.

(Kinda makes me wonder if Palkia and Dialga intentionally "killed" Darkrai for trying to stop them, or if it was just in their way)

Anyway sorry I just needed to ramble about this

The Rise of Darkrai is SO GOOD honestly my favorite Pokémon movie, I'm glad you enjoyed it ^^

Darkrai is such a good Pokémon and this movie made me love it (it's my favorite Dark-type and my favorite mythical <3 )

But I agree, Dialga was super aggro in this movie, and Palkia seemed to mostly fight because it was being threatened (It even seemed to apologize near the end of the movie when it realized all the destruction it caused :( )

It could explain why Giratina went hard on Dialga in particular in The Sky Warrior, I think it knew Dialga's crimes and wanted to teach its sibling a lesson

I think Dialga and Palkia just got a bit too out of hand and super aggravated when Darkrai was trying to interfere. They were both so upset they didn't realize the damage they were causing around them.

I don't know if 'killing' Darkrai was in their intentions, they're just so significantly more powerful than it and its constant interference seemed to just make them angrier.

Huge agree to everything you said here!! The manga is absolutely amazing and the Hoenn arc is probably my favourite for so many reasons including the romance. Honestly the whole of how Ruby and Sapphire's relationship developed in general is great, kudos to the writers, I think it was one of the first romances I actually enjoyed.

Yellow my beloved!! Honestly they were so good in their arc, I adored the team Yellow built. It's not that novel of a concept but seeing their Pokemon that were commonly considered weak being a threat was amazing to me. I love the team building in the manga in general honestly, it always lets Pokemon considered weak just look really great. Delcatty and Mightyena holding their own against Norman's Pokemon? Amazing I love Ruby for it.

srsly these kids had Trauma. theres The Incident but also norman (ruby's dad) like uh. why the HELL were you SO VIOLENT IN THAT ONE SCENE??? when i read this at 11yrs old i was like "oh that makes sense, norman is angry cuz ruby ran away!!! it's tough love!!" but now that im 22 yrs old im like "HEY, NORMAN? U HIT UR KID. THAT IS PHYSICAL ABUSE TO A CHILD." like im glad norman does better later and that they reconcile but also what the fuck

BUT what i wanna talk about most is ruby and sapphire's character. it's frigging incredible to me, the both of them. how one traumatic Incident that happened when they were kids changed the entire course of both their personalities because that event instilled core fears into them.

ruby who was at first into battling but after The Incident saw that battling (that pain) made his best friend look at him with horror in her eyes. sapphire who as at first a meek prim proper girl but after The Incident saw that this made her helpless and powerless to save her best friend who got so frigging hurt. both of them fixating on that. ruby fixating on how pain made him "ugly", sapphire fixating on how meekness made her "powerless"

and thus them going forward in a different trajectory. ruby finding his footing in beauty, aesthetics, and performance, and being a snotty bitch (affectionate) at ppl into battling. sapphire finding her footing in becoming a battle master to hone her strength and also literally grow up in the wilderness, she was the BLUEPRINT for the feral girl archetype but actually done well. they reunite, do not recognize each other, clash so much because the other embodies something they dislike (cuz in the past that something fucked them up so much) and then coming to accept all parts of both each other and themselves

and then they fall in love

foils to one another, finding parts of themself in the other, learning to be vulnerable and trust once more

I love headcanoning and brainstorming about media and stories within the Pokemon stories. Which is quite difficult sometimes because there's so many possibilities to choose from. From drawing from real life to making up many things because world history in Pokemon has run differently.

I 1000% agree. This is some of my favorite type worldbuilding for the Pokemon world to be honest. Like my first thought is that with Pokemon battling being such a big thing, there's probably like actual tv channels just dedicated to showing battles at say the World Tournament, any of the Galar matches and other regions' events too. Probably dedicated channels for Pokemon Contests, Pokethlon and Pokemon Musicals as well. And then of course they'd have sports channels for the regular humans sports (since we know things like track and field exist in the Pokemon world thanks to the Power of Us movie and knowing my old sport exists in the Pokemon world fills my soul). I imagine they have their own version of the Olympics that gets widespread coverage.

I imagine the children's programming would be very interesting in the Pokemon world. Probably a lot of shows not unlike the real world Pokemon anime that show trainers starting on their journey. But then probably their own version of Sesame Street (which begs the question, would the muppets look like Pokemon or be more foreign). There's probably even *shudders* a version of Caillou in the Pokemon world (at least in my verse, it unfortunately exists thanks to one of my OCs being the executive producer of the show).

And then with the rise of online video websites (Poketube) I'd imagine there'd be kid's channels with popular rhymes. I'm just imagining Baby Sharpedo (or would it be Baby Carvanha) being this huge viral internet phenomenon.

Now when it comes to movies, like you said there's a lot to choose from. Obviously there are plenty of mythos that the Pokemon world has that could make for interesting movies. I'd imagine a lot of movies are made of the original Darkest Day (with some being remade after Sonia uncovers the truth). Also, whatever goes on during the Legends: Arceus timeline is probably easy plot fodder for Sinnoh writers/film producers.

And then you have to consider the current history. With every generation involving some interesting save the region/world plot I imagine there's someone who makes movies retelling that. So that would mean every protag would have a movie that shows there heroism (if not outright biopics).

24. your favorite team of pokemon you’ve ever had

OH definitely this platinum team i had a couple years back! i went in with the intent of using pokemon i liked from a distance but hadn't used yet, and i traded my starter for a sneasel egg! weavile has always been a pokemon i loved since childhood, but i never actually used one bc i couldnt figure out how to evolve it as a kid... yeah i wasnt too smart. gliscor was my exception, i just really wanted to use gliscor in a sinnoh game since i hadn't yet.

my team was sugar the weavile, winnie the lopunny, carmilla the gliscor, drake the scizor, gallade, and drifblim (which didnt quite work with my style so i swapped it for giratina in lategame) and it was SO fun. they solidified all of those pokemon except for kiiinda the last two as favorites, and scizor as a comfort character (and even scyther as a favorite! before i was more neutral to it and largely preferred scizor, so i only caught it for scizor. however, i had to use scyther for a good part of the game before i got a metal coat and he was SUPER fun to use. basically you can thank this team for my oc sakura jade's existence bc i probably wouldn't have cared enough to make a scyther oc if it wasnt for this)

making teams consist entirely of pokemon i havent used as often is fun... definitely need to do it more

25. favorite design of a pokemon

who else... its still gliscor lol. its literally most of my favorite design quirks in one pokemon. its a bug creature design. it's a bat. its a vampire. its got big scary fangs and weird eyes, big ol ears and big ol bat wings. its normal and shiny colors are both combos i really love. it's got a tail that can grip things like a third hand. it's this nocturnal monster that has very good scary folklore potential and is heavily implied to hunt like a vampire would. it evolves in a similar way that a human is turned into a vampire.

and along with all that? its GOOFY. its fun and cute in the show!! its amazing!! im pretty sure this pokemon is why i like a good amount of the traits i listed LMAO

65. favorite pokemon movie

very much a nostalgia movie, but arceus and the jewel of life. its not a very good one but its a comfort one, things dont have to be good to be loved.

So, time to log my feelings for the Presentation. I was actually wrong about what all would be in it but I'm about the same level of hype to underwhelmed.

1. Nostalgia bait

3. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

I'm gonna get death threats for this lmfao, but I felt nothing at all. Like I'm used to some excitement but I just felt nothing. I guess it's better than nothing, but the chibi style isn't how I pictured it at all and kinda feels cheap. I appreciate the polish, but still, it could have at least been like the SwSh DLC. And it sounds like they're going to be focusing more on DP, which... sucks, ngl, since Platinum were the games gen 4 fans probably really wanted. Let's just hope they aren't TOO faithful to DP or else we have half the Sinnoh dex locked to post game and 8 annoying HMs, and at least have the Platinum fire types

Still, ILCA has me somewhat hopeful. They had involvement with the development for Dragon Quest 11, a fantastic game more people should play, so I have slight more hope. I'm not too happy about Junichi "kids and their smart phones are too busy for the Battle Frontier lol" Masuda co directing, but at least they probably can't make it worse than the originals with the other guy there.

Maybe with the new engine we won't be waiting 4 hours for a Pokémon to faint or level up

3. Legends Arceus

Now THIS is what I pictured. I'm surprised at many things, but this looks so fresh! Not to mention

They got all three of my favorite starters! Fucking finally, what took you so damn long? (Oh right, Home subs)

The open world aspect should have been was SwSh was to begin with, and even in alpha the games look better than base SwSh in the final product, but better late than never. This is an interesting approach to a Pokémon game, and although I'm not fond of the JUST THROW A BALL mentality inherited from GO and Let's Go, it looks like you can still do wild battles so it works out.

I could stand to revisit past regions like this. Probably healthier than releasing 60 sub par designs every 3 years and then being expected to work on remakes and a new gen at the same time. The Legends title implies that this is going to be a series, perhaps? I'm okay with that, let's just make this game fun though

Also NGL, I've always wanted to explore a Pokémon region in a non modern time. I swear I either had a dream or falsely remember a scan of DP but it's like feudal or Pre Victorian Era, and you hop off a very old looking boat. Plus there was always the whole thing involved with Samuel in the 4th Movie, so the thought has always been in the back of my head. I'm kinda bored of cities all the damn time, so maybe finally seeing Pokémon in PROPER nature is what I needed

I think the most interesting aspect is definitely Arceus. Will we finally unlock wtf it exactly is (other than god) after 15 years of mystery?

Now, I'm cautiously optimistic. The game looks good, but this is Game Freak we're talking about. They can find any number of ways to screw up and probably will, and if it's Ohmori at the helm, corners will be cut. Not to mention if it's like SwSh, the Alpha footage will most likely be the exact same or close to the same product we get in the end.

Still, cautiously optimistic. Don't fuck it up. Please don't. I wanna pick my Cyndaquil buddy and go explore and fight everything in peace. Please just be good.

Heeyyy *walks into ask box as if I didn’t send a post literal minutes ago* so about the event- lmao okay I’m sorry. So! Um *hand gestures* y’know how Ash Ketchum travelled to the Sinnoh region ( my absolute favorite arc, Diamond and Pearl era for the win ✨ ) perhaps a little thingy with Ash and Dawn with the word treat? I feel like four year old me is bouncing off the walls just mentioning them 🤣 they were my favs.

Oh, wow! Unfortunately, I never had much chance to watch Pokémon, only see one or two of the movies. Most of my experience with Pokémon comes from the games :/ I think I shipped Ash and May too (thanks to the Temple in the Sea movie)! Regardless, I did a little research to make this work, so hopefully you enjoy this based on your fond memories of watching Diamond and Pearl! ^u^

You Reap What You Sow

The tip of Dawn’s tongue stuck out of the upper corner of her lips and her breaths came in little grunts as she swirled the thick pink batter in the bowl with a spatula. Though she’d made poffins many times for her beloved Pokémon, it never made the work less arduous. That was all right, though. What one reaped, one sowed, and so hard work would beget good results more often than not. 

Once she decided that the batter had arrived at the right texture, she set the bowl down and glanced at the oven. It had almost preheated to the desired temperature. 

“I’m getting a lot better at time management!” she hummed happily to herself. Though Dawn had helped her mother countless times to prepare the snacks, it still had taken some adjustment to learn to do it all on her own. After much trial and error, and a few heartbreaks, Dawn had become proficient in the art, if she did say so herself. She sung a tune under her breath as she poured the batter into the molds, finishing just as the timer went off. 

“All right! Now they just have to cook, and they’ll be ready to go~!” she trilled in a sing-song voice as she skipped over to the oven. She popped it open, standing to the side so that the rush of hot air wouldn’t cause her any undue burn. Carefully, she slid the baking tray onto the rack before swinging the door closed and setting the timer. She then sank bonelessly into a kitchen chair, realizing just then how much her feet ached from standing on them for so long. 

“You really don’t realize how much work it is when you’re a kid!” Despite the gripe, a serene smile blossomed on her face. She was out in the world living her dream, so she didn’t feel dissatisfied with the labor, not one bit. Still, her body did, apparently. 

Just as she was peeling off her shoes to massage her sore soles, Ash came strolling into the kitchen. 

“Hey, Dawn. Still hard at work, I see,” the boy said while sniffing the air experimentally. “Whoa! Smells great. These’ll be the best ones yet,” he grinned as he walked to the oven to peer through the window. Dawn laughed airily. 

“How do you know that?” 

“Just a hunch,” he answered and flashed her a cheesy grin. It was then that she noticed a paper box clutched in his hand. 

“What’s that?” 

“Huh? Oh, right, duh! This is what I came in here for, actually. These are for you!” 

As Ash approached to drop the paper box into her lap, Dawn’s eyebrows disappeared under her hat. “You’ve been working really hard preparing for your upcoming contest,” he explained as she reservedly flipped up the box lid and peeked inside. “So I thought you deserve a treat, too!” As he grinned triumphantly, snickering while pushing his balled fists into his hips, a heat rose to Dawn’s cheeks. Inside the box was a very skillfully crafted cupcake, with swirls of cream cheese icing covered in chocolate sprinkles and adorned with chocolate cookies. “Ya like it?” 

“Oh, yes!” she nodded immediately. “It looks delicious. Thank you, Ash!” Carefully, she removed the cupcake to hold it up and admire it. It was the clear that it had been created by a professional with much love— and Ash had probably paid a pretty penny for it. Dawn’s heart swelled with gratitude, warmed by the notion he had abandoned afternoon training to go buy this for her. She simply couldn’t take it, not without concessions, at least. 

“Ash, why don’t you share it with me?” 

“Huh? But it’s for you.” 

“I know, but it would make me really happy.” Ash grimaced and tugged at the ends of his black hair with an unsure look, mulling over her proposition for a moment. 

“Well... Okay, if you insist.” 

He pulled up a chair behind her, while Dawn grabbed a nearby fork and gently cut the cupcake down the middle. Cookies and cream frosting bloomed in the middle of the chocolate cake, and Dawn had to admit, her mouth watered at the idea of sinking her teeth into it. They both chomped down at the same time, exchanging identical giddy grins. 

“Mhmm! ‘S so good!” Dawn hummed around the cupcake. Ash nodded emphatically, gently though as to not get frosting all over his nose. He pulled away with an appreciative smack of his lips. 

“I wonder if your Pokémon say the same thing about your poffins,” he laughed while licking frosting from his upper lift. Dawn giggled. 

“Gosh, I sure hope so.” 

While waiting for her poffins to cook, the pair enjoyed the sweet treat, talking idly about their respective days of hard work. As she sat there, enjoying his presence, Dawn had to smile as a particular thought came to mind: indeed, you reap what you sow, in hard work and in friendships, too.

Hey Mun . What's your favorite Pokemon movie ?

(That’s a hard one, I quite liked I Choose You and Power of Us, Keldeo and Genesect movies were good too, I haven’t seen most of the middle ones from Hoenn/Sinnoh, think I only saw up to Jirachi and then kinda didn’t see any until Keldeo, probably still stay Mewtwo Strikes Back is my favorite though, since it was the first it had a lot to prove and there was such huge marketing behind it since Pokemon was the biggest thing ever at the time so for a lot of reasons that probably don’t pertain to the actual movie itself I have a lot of fond memories from the time it came out, plus it’s pretty solid in its own right with a lot of love for everything pokemon that came up to that point and just the jab in the gut that is Mewtwo’s character arc

Honorable mentions to the Unown and Lugia movies, I don’t remember them being super great but they were pretty cool, 2000 still had the huge hype from the Pokemon Boom of the 90s so a lot of weight was thrown to it and it was cool if the plot was a little meh. And the Unown movie had a lot of fun stuff in it but was kind of all over the place and kind of suffered from just being shoved onto tv by the time it came out)

Drabble-So calls my heart to bad decisions. (Sinnoh)

Based on this , cause I can’t get it out of my head and I think it’d be funny to give mini versions of the crack ideas I said. Cut cause of length.

“You know as architecturally fascinating as this place is I think I like the Eterna base better.” “Wait seriously? All of the fun planning stuff that you love is here though. I mean we just read through notes in a lab about the lake guardians. That is your exact cup of tea.” “Yeah I knoooow but it was so much more dilapidated. How is this place still so clean?” “The various roombas might have something to do with it.”

Will chimed in as he stepped to the side to let another one slide by. When they talked to Cynthia she had mentioned the leader having an affinity for robots and machines which is why both Karen and Will hadn’t batted an eye at seeing a roomba in every room puttering around. 

Still Karen had expected it to be a bit more chaotic. I mean at least some wall paper starting to peel, a nick in a wall here and there, but no the place was just uncannily spotless. It made her wonder if anyone was still living there. They had encountered said issue before which had thankfully resolved itself. This time though she wasn’t so sure since as far as she knew they hadn’t met many Galactic members. 

Continuing in their exploits they both looked around the giant hall they’d entered. There wasn’t anything in the room except of course another roomba, guess they all were active this time of night, and a large podium area built into the room. As soon as they saw this Karen already knew what Will was about to say. 

“I want to get up there.” “Ok well let’s keep looking around and see if we can find stairs or another door, or-” “No way that’s lame, and these trips are for fun remember!”

Will cut her off running towards the wall starting to jump. The woman shook her head watching him miss the ledge by a long shot. Oh she already knew this wasn’t going to end well. 

“And how are you going to get up there from this room? That ledge is a whole you taller, and if you hadn’t noticed this place is stupidly minimalistic.”

She countered leaning against one of the walls to watch the show. He had moved from trying to jump it to knocking along the walls of the room. Personally she hoped he had taken her advice and was looking for a hidden stair case or something. Sure enough at one point there was a hollow thud causing both of them to perk up. Will grinned from ear to ear starting to see what objects he could manipulate. A hinge, a lock, some part of a door, and sure enough he was able to locate the spot to press on the wall. The panel cracked open with a small pop, and Will flung the door wide revealing chairs. Again practically spotless organized room with many stacks of chairs. 

“This is how.” “Oh this is going to be a bad idea.” “It is not ye of little faith! Watch me dazzle you with my genius.” “I’m going to tell Lance those were your final words before you broke your neck.”

Karen told him watching him use the dolly to position a stack by the wall. He could possibly reach now but looking at the chairs she wasn’t sure how steady taht tower would be. Sure they were your regular auditorium like chairs which was better than folding chairs, but as he said she was ye of little faith. 

“I’ll be fine, just be sure to catch me if I fall.” “No way, if I do that you’ll probably take both of us down. If you fall I’m going to say karma, and then laugh in your face.” “At least one of us will be able to laugh at my pain because I’m betting on a few broken ribs if I fail.” “How reassuring.”

Despite the shaking tower and general poor decision this was He was making progress. He always had the better sense of balance and so she watched silently as he grunted and huffed his way to the top of the stack. By the time he reached the top he had gotten the right height too, and was able to reach over to grab the lip of the wall. A few more scrambled moments and he had managed to crawl his way on to the other side giving a final kick to the chair pile which started to tip. HIs victorious pose of with two fisted hands in the air was met with the crashing applause of many chairs crashing to the floor. So much for this place being kept practically spotless. 

“You know I admire the grit that took, but question. You could of floated there Mr. Hi yeah so I’m psychic.” “I know but I want to save it in case we run into something or someone dangerous. Like what if this Cyrus guy has befriended Girintina right after getting sucked up in that world between worlds and he’s watching us right now with the weird science over there, gets mad we’re wrecking his stuff and BOOM!”

He emphasized smashing his fist on the short wall.

“Girintina and him burst through and attack us!” “I think that marathon of all the Godzilla movies followed by season one of Stargate SG1 was a bad idea.” “You’re just like killing my imagination.”

Will pouted having found a few pieces of paper to ball up one of which he threw at her. Easily it was caught by the woman who, out of curiosity started to unfold it. Huh, well this was interesting. 

“Hey Will the paper you tossed down looks like an old speech. Damn you know some of the phrases in here look familiar,’this is of upmost importance, you know the price of failure.’” “Secrecy is key, keeps your senses sharp, oooh I found the one I used to hear all the time! Don’t disappoint me.”

The elite mocked using an older deeper man voice to pull  a chuckle from Karen.

“Oh but you sure did disappoint, but not as badly as Sham and Carl did some days. We really outclassed them so soon after joining, you know they had every right to be mad at us for that.”

The woman chimed in remembering well the day they basically became the right hand men and pushing those two out of their place. Despite being both younger, and not around as long they were quite the trained soldiers. In retro-spect that was not a good thing, but in some weird way Karen still felt pride in that. 

“I’m sorry I think you mean Coral and Shoe which I remember him calling them once because he forgot their names. I fully agree that they had every right to be  mad at us. We were nothing but some dorks that showed up, I came already born with powers, you are just well, you’re yourself.” “You know normally you say that as an insult.” “And this time I mean it as a compliment because compared to those two you came in Black Widow even without training yet. Then next thing you know we’re top dogs, we manage to connect with legendary pokemon, and are given control to command them, we get trusted to guard the main plan in the end, and are openly the favorite. I don’t blame them for hating our guts as kids. To be fair we deserved that hate, and all the other hate we’ve gotten. It’s a good thing like came and kicked us in the nuts when it did because if it hadn’t I’m telling you right now we would of likely ran that branch of Rocket after Pryce up and zipped off!”

The psychic started to rant. It was always fun when he started this. It was like watching a comedy special done by a very well dressed individual, with the accompanying hand gestures and pacing. All it took was a little audience participation and he’d go on a roll. What better place for him to give a speech than here.

“Oh us run the joint, huh? Now this I want to hear.”

Karen encouraged seeing her friend grin as he straightened up. 

“Let me tell you then! Now we both know if we knew the real reason that garbage human being wanted our help, reunite a lapras with it’s family, we would of revolted!” “Revolted?” “I fucking said it! Viva la revolution, and everything because we both knew all the shit we’d gone through wasn’t worth THAT! So if you’d listened to me and backed off of Blue when ya did we would of had not one, not two, but three legendary birds, and Ho-oh and Lugia cause there is no way we’d give them back after finding out his big plan. SO we’d take those birds, we’d rally up some of the other Rocket members in the other districts who’d follow us cause we ACTUALLY would manage to have control over real legendary pokemon and played our cards right till we and our group were strong enough to take down the league.”

He stressed grabbing the edge of the concrete wall to lean in. 

“Cause when you put Karen and Will together we are such goddamn unstoppable forces not even Arceus can stop you and I.”

Karen was grinning watching him give his little motivational speech and clapped her hands shouting encore a few times to boost the dramatics of his little speech. He of course did not take this in a humble stride giving dramatic bows as if they had a large audience to entertain complete with blowing a kiss and pretending to weep. All dramatic exaggerations until one sweep of his hand and misstep seemed to be a bit too grand. Unaware there was more paper scattered on the ground his foot started to slip. HIs latest ‘thank you’ was cut short as he felt his weight go over the edge. Even grabbing it was no good as he started to tip. Karen stopped her applause once she saw this breaking into a run as she raced over to catch him. Although she too took a tumble after not seeing a chair by her feet. 

There was a crash as the chairs collided with each other again now with an added person. The one to land after skidding against the floor was Karen. Will floated above her giving a hiss knowing that had to hurt. 

“....well, now who forgot I could float.”

He muttered feeling her hand grab his ankle and yank him down. With concentration broken he fell the last half a foot. Ok maybe he deserved that.

“You know funnily enough I was about to swing the conservation to talking about how it’s a good thing we ended up where we are. Life has a way of kicking folks like us down a peg.....or in this case pride comes before fall.”

There was a long pause as Karen simply stared at him dead pan before shaking her head starting to laugh. Sure she was still bruised and so was he, but hey they might as well enjoy this laugh even if it was a stupid one.

The 6 Pokémon Trainers the Anime Forgot

Since 1997, over 1,000 episodes of Pokémon the Series have followed Ash Ketchum's journey across multiple regions, where he's met and battled many of the unique personalities that populate the beloved video game series. Not every character is created equal though, and while some have become pop culture icons like Brock and Misty, others have to feel grateful for even a single episode, and others have yet to appear at all!

  However, it doesn't look like the anime is gonna be stopping any time soon, and in all likelihood will probably continue as long as new games are being made. So, with speculation swirling about the new season's return trips to Kanto and beyond, here's who we're hoping will finally get the spotlight they deserve.

    Janine

Of the 59 Gym Leaders introduced before Sword and Shield (and if we count Gary as an adaptation of Blue,) each one has made an appearance of some degree in the anime… except Janine.

  With Koga promoted to the Elite Four in the Game Boy sequels Gold and Silver, Fuschia City found a new Gym Leader in his daughter, Janine. The young girl only appeared briefly in the Kanto post-game and inexperience made her weaker than her colleagues, so it’s understandable that such a small role was forgotten. Even the English localisation team did, being mistakenly renamed in FireRed and LeafGreen as “Charine”!

  The Nintendo DS’ HeartGold and SoulSilver made up for the lack of attention by exploring the adoration she has for her father: she won’t shut up about him, delivers his lunches to the other side of Kanto, and even argues with Falkner over who has the best dad! Basically, she’s absolutely precious.

  When Ash returned to Kanto in Battle Frontier, I thought Janine was finally going to appear - there was even an episode about a young woman running a ninja school! But no, instead it was lead by the anime-original Angela, because reasons, I guess? With her recently being featured in the Pokémon Trading Card Game and the newly released Pokémon Masters though, perhaps a return to Kanto could finally give Janine the appearance she deserves?

Grimsley

  While Gym Leaders are almost always guaranteed a spot in the anime, the same can't be said about a region's most powerful trainers: the Elite Four. Only 3 regions have had their full line-ups appear, and others like Unova have only had 1 - which is a shame, given that Black and White have one of the coolest and most complex line-ups.

  Given the series' complicated history with gambling (like The Gamer Corner), it's surprising how important it is to Grimsley's design and backstory. The son of a disgraced noble family, he fell victim to a gambling addiction, before emerging as the dapperly dressed Dark-type master of Unova's Elite Four!

  The world clearly hasn't been kind to young Grimsley, however. When we saw him again in Sun and Moon, he had bags in his eyes as he listfully lingered on the shore. In the Ultra variants, he reflects on the despair he felt after putting everything on the line and losing, referring to himself as a former Elite Four member. The circumstances about his fall from grace and who replaced him remain mysteries, but even though they're separate continuities, perhaps an anime appearance could clear them up? His brief cameo in the animated trailer for the Pokémon Masters mobile game gave us a taste of what he may look like in the anime, so hopefully we'll see Grimsley again in one way or another - if not the series, maybe Black 3/White 3? (Come on, Game Freak!).

  Darach

    One of my favorite stories in the Pokémon World is that of Caitlin, the quick-tempered overseer of Sinnoh's Battle Castle, who after mastering her runaway psychic powers, earned a place in Unova's Elite Four. While she briefly appeared in the anime however, her backstory and an important part of it didn't.

  With Caitlin being unable to battle without her uncontrollable powers running rampant, her personal valet Darach assumed the mantle of Frontier Brain and fended off challengers himself. A refined gentleman and fierce battler alike, Darach is a class act all-round. And after Caitlin left to train in Unova, little has been said about her dashing butler, other than that he makes occasional trips to clean her villa. Should Caitlin return to the anime, hopefully she'll have Darach in tow, because they seem to make an awesome team. 

  Silver

  If you were to ask old-school Pokémon fans who their favorite rival is, a good chunk would point to Silver. While Blue was cocky, Silver's a straight up jerk - I mean, we first meet him after he stole a starter Pokémon from Professor Elm! He has good reason to be a grump though: his dad's only the missing leader of Team Rocket, Giovanni! Rather than join the family business however, Silver would prefer to tear it down.

  With Team Rocket's boss having a constant looming presence in the anime, you'd think his son would be a shoe-in, right? Wrong. While he appeared in the Pokémon Generations web short and had a cameo in side-story The Legend of Thunder, Pokémon's second most famous rival has yet to appear in the main anime continuity. It's a real shame too, as his presence could be a catalyst for a Team Rocket-focused story arc that brings Giovanni back to the forefront, and his more serious personality would be a great contrast to Jessie, James and Meowth's more jovial dynamic.

  It's possible that Silver was the inspiration behind the Diamond & Pearl series' rival Paul, as he has a similar obsession with strength, an abrasive personality, and even similar hair! Their character arcs also had similar endings, with the two starting to show signs of actually respecting their Pokémon partners. While Paul is easily the anime's best rival to date though, seeing the real deal would be great.

Wally

  If there's anyone who could have benefitted from the gradual character development that a series allows, it would've been Wally. A timid and frail kid, Ruby and Sapphire's other rival is determined to not let his shortcomings get in the way of becoming a great Pokémon trainer. Seeing his confidence grow in tandem with his abilities was the most rewarding part of his games' story, and the final battle in Victory Road was a perfect climax to that tale.

  What made Wally's absence from the anime even more disappointing was that while May had the recurring presence of Drew on the contest circuit, Ash didn't even have a rival for most of his Hoenn adventure. The anime-only characters Morrison and Tyson were hastily introduced right before the Ever Grande Conference, leaving Hoenn's event with none of the build-up a Pokémon League should have.

  The most important reason for a Wally appearance now though, is easily so a remix of his amazing Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire battle theme can be in the soundtrack. Name me a better battle theme, I'll wait. Although a good contender may be...

Zinnia

    Sworn by a generations old duty to awaken the legendary Rayquaza and destroy a meteor, the fate of the world is on Zinnia's shoulders. After briefly appearing throughout Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, she became the focal point of their post-game "Delta Episode" - perhaps the best addition to the series' lore yet!

  Zinnia is a complex and fascinating character. Despite her goal of saving the world, she was prepared to put it in danger by awakening Groudon or Kyogre to lure out the emerald dragon. She can be quite playful (and dare I say flirty) at times, but she also has a pained presence. Her burden hangs heavy over her, as does the pain of losing her dear friend, and Whismur's namesake, Aster.

  She could have made a great focal point for a Delta Episode-inspired storyline, and Iris' Village of Dragons could have easily been retconned to be the Draconid Tribe. With the X&Y anime already focusing on Zygarde, we weren't lacking in cool ways to feature her. 

  The events of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire's endgame established the existence of a multiverse, with the GameBoy Advance originals existing in a reality where the lack of Mega Evolution makes it vulnerable to the meteorite. With the recent movies I Choose You and The Power of Us existing in their own continuity, perhaps a Hoenn-focused follow-up could see Zinnia having to save both of Ash Ketchum's realities?

Jelli’s problems with ORAS

Hohohohohohohooooo… *rubs hands together* where do I begin with ORAS?

Firstly, let’s get the obvious out of the way which is removing the Battle Frontier and just copypasting the extremely boring Battle Maison from X/Y, lacking in any sort of interesting challenges that gens 3 and 4 presented. 

GameFreak never patched it in either in spite of having the technology to do so now. Insult to injury is the fact that Anabel made it into Sun/Moon, which makes me theorize they planned designs for BF leaders but just didn’t put them in ORAS.

But that’s just one small thing, I mean, I could let it go if not for all of the other flaws ORAS presents (especially when put next to HG/SS or Emerald)

The Gym Leaders

When ORAS was announced, I figured “oh cool, the gym leaders might all get a buff by using mega evolutions”… and they did not. No, they all have their parties from the original Ruby and Sapphire, some of which, well, let’s face it, are pathetic compared to Emerald.

Wattson just has his Magnetson, no Manectric or Mega Manectric-- y’know, the signature Electric-type of Gen 3? Something that would have been cool and challenging?

Winona doesn’t have a Mega Altaria either, again, stuck with the mediocre party she had in the original R/S, no Tropius in sight. Giving her a Mega Altaria would have been a good challenge because people who come into the gym with electric types would have no idea how to deal with Dragon/Fairy.

And oh boy, how can we forget Tate and Liza? You would think ORAS would have changed something to make them a bit more challenging, but no. You just double battle their Solrock and Lunatone, probably wiping them before they get a chance.

Also, unlike in Emerald or HG/SS… you can’t even rematch the Gym leaders (except for Wallace in the Delta Episode). You just fight them once with their pathetically weak teams, then that’s it, no more from them ever again.

The Elite Four members got the better end of it mostly, but their initial teams are still weak. I also hate Steven’s rematch team. Why does he have Carbink and Aerodactyl? There are plenty of Steel-types, one of which is a fossil Pokémon! Carbink is weak to Steel anyway!

Wally’s party also made me sad. GameFreak didn’t like the idea of a boy trainer having a male Gardevoir I guess, so they forced a Gallade on him prior to getting National Dex or whatever. :\

Legendaries

While I already hated the roaming legendaries (seriously GameFreak, remove these), simply handing over Latios and Latias with their Mega Evolution and zero effort to obtain them was… pretty awful. It makes the entire game pathetically easy from there on out if you do speedrunning. I dunno about you, but I like getting my legendaries through a challenge.

Remember in gens 3, 4, and 5 when certain legendaries, when found, would give you a cool event? Well, ORAS just hands everything to you by flying around on Latios/Latias to certain areas, and you go to dimensional rips and rings created by Hoopa.

I have a feeling Hoopa was just made to create the excuse of randomly dropping Pokémon… I don’t know why they didn’t make a small, new area for each legendary available. FireRed/LeafGreen and Emerald did that for Lugia, Ho-Oh, Mew, and Deoxys. Simply recycling assets from the already existing mystery lands from soaring would have worked just fine.

Of course, this is a minor nitpick compared to actual issues I have. I’m glad that Pokémon like Zekrom are in the game at all, but I wish a little more effort was put in.

The Audio

I don’t like the soundtrack ORAS introduced compared to the original gen 3 games. The Champion theme against Steven, in particular, feels neutered of its GBA trumpets.

Honestly, I would be fine with it-- if they programmed in the GB Sounds, an item that was available in HG/SS! Gee, imagine that, an item that lets you play classic sounds if you prefer some of the original, classic soundtracks!

“Jelli they can’t program in old music!” Is what you’re going to say, and I’m going to prove you wrong, because somehow GameFreak managed to copypaste the themes of Lugia, Ho-Oh, Giratina, etc into ORAS… from their original DS sound fonts.

Wanna know what’s even funnier about this? In ORAS, Ho-Oh and Lugia have their themes from HG/SS, but the legendary beasts all have their Pokémon Crystal theme as opposed to the separate ones given in HG/SS. Sure, it’s nostalgic, but it clashes horribly given the others themes being from DS games.

I think if they cropped out all that legendary music (and simply made one song for all of them), they could have fit the GB (or rather GBA) Sounds into ORAS.

“But Jelli, that sounds like it would be too much for the 3DS.”

Definitely not, but if it was, here’s my last point.

The Delta Episode

I hated this, lol. I was fine with the remake up until this point. This was a poor excuse of post-game, it’s basically one big, handheld cutscene where you go from place to place and put up with the most annoying character in the world; Zinnia. (who is an even more obnoxious jerk in the manga if one can believe that)

Honestly, they should have cut this entirely and allowed the players to find Mega Rayquaza on their own so they could use the remaining data to put in the Battle Frontier, GB Sounds, and Gym leader rematches. I don’t play Pokémon to watch a short movie with poor story-telling, sorry.

I know it sounds like I’m being harsh for the sake of shitting on GameFreak but… that’s not true. I’m saying this because I absolutely love Gen 3! It’s my favorite Pokémon generation next to 5 and Hoenn is probably my favorite region. I still go back to Pokémon Emerald sometimes (I recently transferred my shinies to SoulSilver) and just embrace everything.

ORAS… I have not gone back to. It made me feel empty from how unfinished this was. This game didn’t have the love put into it like HG/SS or FR/LG did, and as someone who did want Hoenn remakes, that makes me extremely depressed.

It makes me worry for the people who want Sinnoh remakes, they’re going to be stuck with the Gym leaders having terrible parties like in the original Diamond/Pearl rather than Platinum, with no post-game content.

Sorry if this was a long read and if people don’t agree, again, I’m just super passionate about Gen 3.

What do you identify as and what are your pronouns?

I’m even a little shaken by a questioning state right now but for a while I’ve felt the best fit is the androgynous label -- I read a description of it being the purple on a pink to blue scale, both at once but not specifically either one, and something else by itself. I’m also happy with a cryptic masculine grey area. My pronouns are he/him.

How did you discover your sexuality, tell your story?

During the Puberty 1.0 nightmare, I was basically living someone else’s life, and any attraction I felt wasn’t in relation to myself. I felt disconnected from my body and gender and everything too, and I felt a lot of social pressure to experience a certain type of attraction, fit into a certain role, et cetera, and none of these feelings existed in me at all, so I used to identify as ace. When I realized I was trans, I was too caught up in the, transition safely, my life is a lie, stopping dysphoria drama to focus on this, but I had an idea I might be a gay guy judging from my gay creative writing until I caught feelings for a girl and realized this wasn’t the first time that had happened. Some bi positivity and nonbinary rage later, I am reminded that gender is a joke.

Have you experienced being misgendered? What happened and how did you overcome it?

Yes of course A LOT. Starting with my parents, who do it aggressively and maliciously. And plenty from strangers and customers, mostly after hearing my voice pre-transition. It used to hurt terribly because I was dealing with so much other stuff at the time, and one little thing could be the last straw, so I used to react strongly and harshly, to people you express yourself to anyway. On T, I’ve been so much more chill and confident, and it’s less painful to accept that some people just don’t know any better, although that doesn’t change its effect.

Who was the first person you told, how did they react?

I don’t remember, I think it was a high school friend. I vaguely remember texting someone in a bathroom during a crying session at work. My high school friends were all warm and supportive.

Describe what it was like coming out, what did you feel?

It was scary as hell. I’m sure coming out (with your gender specifically) is scary by nature because it’s a huge truth to be telling that can really change how the people you love perceive you, for better or for worse, but for me, I’m also thinking with the dread and certainty that my family would be too conservative and potentially dangerous. Coming out to my family was one of the worst, most painful things I’ve ever been through -- being kicked out and laughed at, a lot of drama, confrontations, Bible readings and being ganged up on at odd hours, trying to comfort my mom who took it as her personal failure -- I was shaking with adrenaline 24/7. I think of the “I’ll suffer through anything as long as it has meaning” comment that was about angsty fanfics, but knowing the truth about myself was a source of unshakable strength and it felt refreshing and even triumphant to say, like I was giving myself permission to exist for the first time. I came out a bunch of times, though...

If you’re out, how did your parents/guardians/friends react?

My family reacted mostly badly, my sister is a little confused but has the spirit, and my friends have been wonderful.

What is one question you hate people asking about your sexuality?

It’s more of a gender thing, but I hate it when people imply that I shouldn’t be on T or are subtly trying to talk me out of it with their questions. After all the disrespectful as fuck bullshit I heard from my parents, I’m tired of this.

Who are your favourite lgbt+ ships?

I’m not really emotionally invested in these “ships” you cool kids are talking about. I like canon, age-appropriate ones.

What does makeup mean to you? Do you wear any?

I’ve never really worn makeup. I brazenly never bothered to growing up, and if it had an effect on me socially, I was too tuned out to care. My sister always wanted to do my hair and makeup, but I wasn’t interested and wouldn’t let her, much to her frustration. I wore some for a musical once though, and I had no idea what I was doing and it was extremely uncomfortable. I felt what I know now is dysphoria and ended up using the lipstick to draw. Another aspect to this is my family forbade it (or my dad made the decision for everyone), not that it made my sister feel less pressured to wear it, so maybe it was some female presentation I could easily get out of. For that reason, I don’t have super strong feelings about it. Not understanding it probably resulted in me feeling left out a lot among my peers.

Do you experience dysphoria? If so, how does that affect you?

Yes. Before my realization, it was a numb horror I wasn’t consciously aware of, ruining nice things growing up to the point where I feel like I missed out on being a teenager. I remember it as feeling nauseous while sitting in a corner, feeling like none of my clothes ever fit for some mysterious reason. Living with my family in the closet, it defined my life, and I was obsessed with my presentation. These days, it does not bother me on that level at all, except a minor freakout now and then if I get really wild and wear feminine clothes. Or I still feel it in more subtle ways, when I default to customer service voice, or when guys my age are twice my height and I look aaaall the way up at them and wonder what gender they see me as.

What is the stupidest thing you’ve heard said about the lgbt+ community?

Trust me, I have heard truck loads of dumb shit and the winner is the Gay Agenda is R****a’s propaganda to weaken the integrity of North America. Considering what is happening over there, it was enragingly stupid.

What’s your favourite thing about the lgbt+ community?

I feel like I can be myself around lgbt+ people. I don’t feel like I have to hide stuff or put on a show, and I’m not afraid because it’s familiar territory.

What’s your least favourite thing about the lgbt+ community?

Aside from obvious problems like TERFs, ace discourse. Ace people are part of the community if they want to be and that’s enough on that, my skin is already breaking out.

Have you ever been to your cities pride event? Why or why not?

I finally went to a Pride event this year! I was surprised it was the first one I’d been to, then remembered my parents discouraged me from going anywhere, never mind to a gay where.

Who is your favourite lgbt+ Icon/Advocate/Celebrity?

I can’t think of many people right now, but Leslie Feinberg seems awesome, and some quotes from Stone Butch Blues are very validating.

Have you been in a relationship and how did you meet?

No. Technically I have been in one, but it was shitty and ridiculous, and basically platonic, and I don’t want it to count.

What is your favourite lgbt+ book?

I barely read… I read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe in high school and it was honestly so precious.

Have you ever faced discrimination? What happened?

Yes. I got kicked out (but then kicked back in again), had my stuff stolen and damaged, was verbally harassed… and I was indirectly fired by an employer, but We Will Never Know Why...

Queer Eye! I don’t know of many though, and some important ones, I just haven’t watched.

No, but I did see some drag performances at the one (1) Pride event I went to, and they were jaw-dropping.

How do you self-identify your gender, and what does that mean to you?

I’m not sure what this question means, but I decide what fits right by what makes me feel the most alive and emotionally real and in the moment. What makes me feel the most attractive to be honest. There’s a post about dysphoria I saw going around, the things on it are basically what I use to figure things out.

Are you interested in having children? Why or why not?

I am actually! Not anytime soon, but I’m the responsible type for sure, and judging by the way I love growing plants and being around animals, I’m probably a nurturing person. I actually like kids too, lol, they’re just so high-energy.

What identity advice would you give your younger self?

You’re a boy. Go!

What do you think of gender roles in relationships?

I think people are going to have different ways of expressing themselves that make them happy, but… I don’t think they should infringe on basic human decency. When I hear “role” I think of acting a certain way because someone told you to, something I want to disagree with on the spot.

Anything else you want to share about your experience with gender?

People move out of my way on the sidewalk and take me seriously now. Privilege or self-confidence… I never want to forget what it used to be like, or get too entitled.

What is something you wish people know about being lgbt+?

That it’s simply living one’s reality. I think that trips up a lot of straight people -- that some people just come like this, and they don’t have to make it fit into their personal identity.

Why are proud to be lgbt+?

Because I worked hard to be alive and happy right now. I’m proud of choosing to get through those rough patches, take care of myself, heal, take walks, cook breakfast, learn healthy coping mechanisms, that was out of love for myself and a defiant conviction that I have a place in this world.

My experience/review watching Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! in theaters (NO SPOILERS)

The day has finally come...I WAS LOOKING FOWARD TO THIS ALL WEEK! After it was first announced in December 2016 that the 20th Pokémon movie would be paying homage to Ash’s origins, I GOT SUPER EXCITED! I was always updated with the news surrounding this film, and got excited every time new information came out (despite some negative reaction by some fans). You can tell by searching through my blog archive...so I pre-ordered the tickets by September, and got the earliest showing with the best seats in the house!

When the day finally came (which was yesterday lol), I got my good ol’ high school buddy to go with me, who was a fan of Pokémon and the anime. Of course, it was a special premiere day, and had to dress for the occasion by wearing my Ash Kalos hat, and the original Team Rocket shirt.

Now for my thoughts on the movie...is it my favorite out of all Pokémon movies? Nope, but it’s definitely up there! First off let me just say, that THERE ARE SOOOO MANY EASTER EGGS (a.k.a. past anime/movie references) IN THIS MOVIE! When I get the Blu-ray copy for this (hopefully there is one?), I will be going back to multiple scenes pausing so many shots!

Anyway, the movie overall was really awesome and a fun adventure to watch! It was (as advertised) a retelling of Ash’s journey starting out as a Pokémon trainer, and his road to becoming a Pokémon Master. The ultimate goal in this movie was to see Ho-Oh after it left its Rainbow Wing for Ash to pick up. To be honest, I’m not really sure if majority of the movie even takes place in the Kanto region o_O A couple nostalgic scenes were re-done beautifully, and teary :’( Some of those scenes really took me back to my childhood watching the old episodes in my VHS player. It wasn't exactly as portrayed in the canon anime, which makes this alternative universe really interesting to think about Ash’s journey. The most notable thing I would have to say about this movie is Charmander’s development. It’s really surprising how different it is from the disobedient one we knew when it evolved as a Charmeleon. At one point of the movie (I won’t say much), Ash really did something UNCHARACTERISTIC of him that really caught me off guard with his Pokémon and friends. Then again this is an AU, so I shouldn't be surprised if his attitude is not exactly like the character I grew up with. Definitely keep your eyes on it when watching!

One of my favorite parts was definitely towards the climax when Ash was is in this BIZARRE but familiar environment that really didn’t seem to fit when you usually watch Pokémon (you’ll have to see it to find out). Again SO MANY REFERENCES caught my eye during that scene, and it doesn't just apply to Pokémon. But I’m pretty sure what EVERYONE in the theater was shocked about, EVEN ME, was what happened between Ash and Pikachu at the very end of the film...very touching and very cute is all I can say. One final thing I would like to say is THE ENDING + CREDITS SCENE WAS A BLESSING. I WILL NEED TO GIF THOSE WHEN THE DVD COMES OUT (ᗒᗨᗕ)

As for the characters, the main supporting stars take spotlight! Verity and Sorrel...LOVE THEM! A lot of people might say how rushed their characters were rushed, but it was a 90+ minute movie and they could only do so much. Ash is the main star, and most of the story should revolve around him, so I honestly think both they had enough time to show off who they are, and what their purpose is in the film. Besides both of them being from Sinnoh, Sinnoh Confirmed their backstories...OH MY GOD BRO! I may got spoiled beforehand why Verity was traveling alone with her Piplup (this Piplup really gave me a lot of vibes similar to Dawn’s Piplup), but I DID NOT anticipate one of Sorrel’s flashback scenes which pretty much broke everyone’s heart in the cinema including mine (it’s still sad thinking about it ಥ_ಥ). Both have solid goals, although Verity’s seems to be more of a personal issue she wants to avoid. Also you definitely have to pay attention to Verity’s scenes since her personal issue with a certain someone wasn't directly given to the audience nor even Ash and Sorrel...just pay attention to detail 👀 Oh yeah, and if you’re a shipping type of person (multishippers to be exact), there’s definitely some cute scenes that Verity has with her companions ;) It just makes me wish that Verity and Sorrel can be future canon traveling partners because all three have great chemistry in the movie together as friends, even though if it was just for a short period. Their Ho-Oh adventure/journey is what really made them close.

Although Team Rocket’s involvement was very minimal in the movie, and was really there for comic relief background, it made me happy that they didn’t really interfere with the main storyline of Ash’s quest to find Ho-Oh. Ash and Pikachu developed well without their involvement, and writers probably didn’t want to put too much time giving a battle scene with them. Sure, I wish they could be used better, but better have them there than not at all right? They were still lovable as always with their goofy antics shown throughout the movie.

Cross, who served to be the big bad rival in the movie, really proved himself to be a real jerk. He is a bit like Paul, only thing is that Cross is more aggressive with his claims. He’s the type of trainer who is a self-centered brat and believes everything should go his way or else he does things by force. He does share a similarity with Ash though, but I’m not saying what it is since it is a spoiler. He served as the Alolan flavor of this movie since he was the only one carrying Gen. VII Pokémon. On the other hand we have the cute but mysterious new Pokémon, Marshadow that actually plays a bigger role in the movie than what you initially thought of. You’d think it’s just there all the time in the background, but you know something is going on as it lurks everywhere throughout the film.

Now there really isn’t that much to say about Bonjī since he only appears at the later part of the movie. I just wish that the old man had more of a backstory and a reason why he was chasing Ho-Oh all his life. Speaking of which, I was happy that the all of the Legendary Beasts get their big screen spotlight along with Ho-Oh. The other thing I wish was that we get to see what really happened with Ho-Oh in the end since the epic final battle of the movie was a bit questionable.

At the end of the day, me and my friend had such a blast! We even got the promotional TCG card of Ash’s Pikachu (FYI this is a really useful card in competitive play if you play the TCG) We both have A LOT of disagreements when it comes to the Pokémon anime, but both of us really loved and enjoyed the movie. Funny story, there were these 4 girls probably around my age (fangirls to be exact) beside me who were absolutely having a blast watching the movie. They screamed out of joy, shouted when Cross was being an ass, squealed in cute moments, cried in the sad moments, and basically were really into the scenes and characters like singing the Pokémon theme song at the beginning of the movie. Annoying? Yes, but I can’t really blame if they had a good time, and I think that’s the most important thing when you watch things you love with friends to share the moments with (though they probably could have toned it down a bit...I’m sure they were self-aware they were loud). My friend couldn't stand them, but I just tried to distract him with my noise since I didn’t want to ruin the girls’ fun time beside me. Plus I was a bit talkative too in several scenes of the film. Honestly I wanted to shout at the beginning of the movie because I WAS THAT HYPED, but didn’t want to embarrass my friend :p *Shoutout to the girl with the Charmander plush beside me at the AMC Fullerton theater if you’re reading this xD Hope you didn’t get too much tears on your plush from some emotional scenes in the movie (⋟﹏⋞)

The ultimate question is, should you go see this movie?

ABSOLUTELY! If you’re just a casual fan who doesn’t really keep up with the anime or movies after the original, you probably wouldn’t enjoy this movie that much. But I would say still watch it if you really love Pokémon! I count each movie as its own thing because none of them are really canon with the main series storyline. Movie 20 really stands out on its own because of how different it is from the rest, notably Ash’s journey getting a brand new fresh reboot, and the fact that there really isn’t an antagonist here who is trying to “rule the world” by getting an enormous power or whatever. This movie was a celebration of what the series has accomplished over the past 20 years.

However, this is just my opinion, and everyone has different tastes. All I’m saying is that you’ll only know how you truly feel when you see it! If you ask me, the best review of this movie is YOUR REVIEW. And from what I’m seeing, it really makes me happy to hear most of you guys are seeing it in theaters, and saying how much you enjoyed it. Let's support a great movie with a great dub! If you can’t, you can always wait for the DVD release and support them that way! If you want to watch the original Japanese version with English subtitles, be sure to buy the DVD too! Just support any way you can to show your appreciation and love for the Pokémon franchise.

As for my thoughts on spoilers, I will keep that to myself for the time being probably until a couple of weeks after the DVD release...will probably be making some GIFs or reblogging posts about it since I’m always late to the GIF making game LOL!
