So I don't know if anyone knows this already or wants to know. Buuuuuuuut
Pirate Postions Explained
Using the pirate crews as my examples
Captain:
When most people think of pirates, they think of a Captain and a First Mate. The captain however isn't an automatic position, it's an elected one; with the only time they have absolute power being in combat or chasing someone. Any other time they could be overruled by a majority vote.
In terms of the Isle, this means both Harriet and Uma were put into power by those around them who have no reason to remove them from said seat. Uma because all of her crew would die for her in a heartbeat. Harriet because despite all her anger and problems, she's good at what she does. (and no one wants to put up with the amount of bs that she does)
First Mate:
First Mates typically didn't exist on pirate ships, instead being a term for navy or commercial ships as the captain's apprentice or right hand. Pirate ships had a quartermaster instead fill that position.
However, Captain James Hook started as a navel officer not a pirate, so his ships had a bit more in common with structuring with navy than other pirate ships. His children followed his lead with how they set up their respective crews. Harriet making Sammy her right hand. Harry making himself Uma's.
Quartermaster:
The quartermaster, in the absence of a first mate, is the next highest ranked position. Often being the one that pirates went to with problems, disagreements, or requests. When not in combat, they held the exact same authority as the captain. As the name suggests, they were in charge of making sure everyone's living quarters was figured out as well as managing food and water supplies.
Harriet, having known him her whole life and trusting his abilities, chose Big Murph as her quartermaster to use both him and Sammy to even out her temperament. Uma went with the most stable and friendly person on the crew, Gil, who everyone agrees was needed to be objective in terms of Harry and other issues.
Master Gunner:
The master gunner is a bit what it sounds like, they are the person in charge of cannons and overall combat if the captain is unavailable for that specific task.
Harriet chose Jade for her quick and out of the box thinking, she can quickly spot a weak point in order to disable a ship. Uma chose Ivy because one way or another, Ivy was going to be using the cannons; might as well teach her and let her be in charge of them.
Medic/Surgeons:
A pirate ship typically didn't have a trained medical practitioner at all. If they did have one, it was because they pressed them into service.
The Isle, however, doesn't have any trained medics. Everyone is just figuring it out from discarded books, stories, and practical experience. Harriet chose Mayra due to her force of will and cool head when it came to people being hurt. Uma chose Bonny because she was the daughter of the Jolly Roger's surgeon, and had a semblance of medical training in that aspect.
Boatswain:
Boatswain are junior officers who reported back directly to either the captain or quartermaster. They made sure the ship was in top shape, keeping track of any damage, making sure the deck is being swabbed, and other small but necessary tasks. They also were the one who would typically lead parties ashore to restock or find materials for repairs.
Harriet chose Diego to keep him close to her because he is very good at keeping track of multiple projects and activities all at once. Uma chose Desiree because of her attention to detail.
Cook/General Positions:
A cook was typically just a random crew member who had been put in charge, this along with other general positions would have been decided by one's talents or other skills.
Harry Badun was chosen via straws for the position of cook, he hasn't done a bad job so why remove him. Claudine was chosen due to her both working in her father's shop and consistently being the only cook in that house. Desiree fills in as cook when Claudine is incapacitated (or banned.)
Hope you might have learned something!

part 2 of Zoro in WCI
01 02
I tried to write something to sum up my thoughts on this, but then it got longer and longer and tbh I'm itching to write a fic set in this AU djjdkf I think I could develop on their inner feelings more than in the comic form
Before posting the first part I didn't realize people had such strong opinions on how this would play out lmaooo
imo, of course Zoro wants to fight Sanji, not with actual intent to harm (they threaten each other on the daily, come on), but because that's how they are together, how they communicate. He respects Luffy's decisions and their goal here, which is to learn what's really going on with Sanji, but he's gonna be pissy about it all he wants. They both have so many intense and conflicted feelings about this and neither has any idea how to resolve them. So they fight.
ofc yall are free to headcanon this interaction any other way you want <333

Aziraphale is a guardian.
We left him at the end of s1 with the knowledge that apocalypse was still coming. He'd saved the world for that day, but Heaven was still bent on destroying it. The ones with the power to burn everything were still inescapably loveless. It really looked like he and Crowley alone of all the Earth-walking beings would fight for the world.
And he loves the world so much. The opening scenes of him in the record shop, buying his Shostakovich 78s? The warmth toward Maggie and her music and her heart? The generosity, and the delight in the shared understanding, and the pleasure in the discovery that he could make her life better? That he could spare her pain, give her a little more time with her joys? He knows how fragile those are.
He wants to give that to the whole world.
He wants to believe he can lift the doom hanging over them all, banish it permanently. He is desperate to believe it. Even if he wasn't longing so fervently to be seen, approved, affirmed by God's word (I was so undone by his jealousy as he watched Job speak to her) -- even without that I can't imagine him not wavering at Heaven's offer, faced with the chance that he could use all Heaven's might to guard the world again and get it right this time.
And then he's offered that power with apparent warmth, and feigned approval, and the shameless claim that at last they understand. They hear what he's been trying desperately to tell them as long as he's lived in the world. They're telling him that he's finally made his point -- that they are proud he's tried so hard for so long.
So -- the ending is shattering. It is maddening. It's utterly unfair on Crowley. And I didn't see it coming, and yet.
Aziraphale is a guardian. He really will have to see for himself that power won't love what's good; there is no way to make the world safe forever.

daniil crying daniil crying daniil crying
i like to imagine that he almost never cries and i just wanna know what finally makes him break down and ugly cry
OH MAN, I 100 percent agree with this, he strikes me as the kind of person to bottle up everything and try to push all his emotions down, but those emotions end up manifesting in negative/self-destructive ways until the weight of everything finally causes him to break down
There's a fic I love that does this really well, please read Shedding Skin by Plaguedboar, I binged all thirteen chapters in two days and was ugly crying by the end of it
Daniil and Artemy come to a slow harrowing realization about their feelings towards each other, but they both recognize how dangerous and destructive acting on those feelings might be. After Daniil takes a bullet for Artemy, it drives a wedge between them, Daniil pushing Artemy further and further away, as Artemy increasingly believes that Daniil sees him as something dangerous - something with the capacity to destroy him. That if Artemy allowed himself to love him and keep him in the town, Daniil will die
❗ SPOILERS ❗
The reason why Daniil ends up taking the bullet is because he realizes that he's also in love with Artemy, but truly believes that he's not worthy of being loved and that he'll ruin Artemy just like how he's ruined everything else he's touched. So, by dying by saving Artemy's life, it would have have been the best thing he could do for the both of them. However, because Artemy ends up saving him, Daniil becomes devastated and does everything in his power to make Artemy hate him and leave him, if he knows what's good for him. In turn, it causes Artemy to question if he's even capable of loving anyone. Thus, begins a cycle of Daniil being as cold and hateful as possible, throwing insults and being self-destructive, while Artemy keeps trying to save him, which only pushes Daniil to be more hateful and self-destructive....
❗ END SPOILERS ❗
There's a beautiful moment at the end where it culminates in Daniil walking out into the steppe to die, and against all odds, Artemy finds him there. After all this time, after all the insults, the coldness, the violence, Artemy decides to love Daniil despite it all and follows him into the wide expanse. Even then, the Capital Snake is still trying to spit venom - doing everything in his power to get Artemy to leave and let him die, but it doesn't work because Artemy finally sees through the facade. He reaches past the Bachelor's many roles and holds on to the Daniil that's terrified of loving and being loved in return, and that's when Daniil finally breaks and allows his vulnerability to bleed through
PLEASE READ THIS!! The angst and catharsis of it all is immense, and I can't recommend it enough!!

Genuinely believe Gortash saw Karlach as his protege.
The amount of respect he would’ve had for her as a poor kid who literally brawled her way out of poverty is unreal.
And the admiration he had for her is mentioned multiple times, even from other characters who knew them both.
But what would trouble him is her indomitable goodness. He would see it as her weakness, believing her to be delusional to protect herself from the realities of the world.
So he slowly starts to expose her to the more heinous sides of his business. And every time, Karlach still goes right back to her sickeningly bright spirit no matter what.
So he sells her to Zariel. Why not? As much as he despises the devil, Raphael made him who he is. Perhaps a devil is what Karlach needs.
And then Karlach comes back an even better person in the ultimate show of how she was never like him. She was better (and though he’d never admit it, a part of him knew that.)

THE ARCHMAGE OF KATOLIS THE REVENGE OF ELTUREL THE DOOM OF XADIA
ALL HAIL CLAUDIA, THE BLACK-EYED SUN
I'm very invested in Claudia and her dark magic journey. Ever since the end of S3 I've envisioned her getting so powerful she becomes the first dark archmage. She could be a beacon of hope and magical freedom for humanity - and a horrible plague onto Xadia, conquering it in service of the Aaravos's/her father's cause.
(Although right now the second part is more likely than the first.)
