A reflection on my 2023 in film photography, and goals for 2024
At the bar. Fools and Horses in the Pearl District, 18 Dec 2023 Camera: MInolta XD5Lens: MInolta MD 50mm f/1.7Film: Cinestill 800T I’m just finishing up the fourTH year that I’ve been back into film. It’s been a fun adventure, so far. Like last year, this year I bought a few more cameras, sold or got rid of a few, and learned some valuable skills. Here is what my camera stable currently looks…

In 1969 I heard about Woodstock, but I was 16, no money, no driver’s license, and it would be four years before I started started hitchhiking around the country, but when I heard that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young would be playing at the old San Diego Stadium in December, I knew I had to go. I borrowed my grandmother’s old folding camera, made my way to the front of the packed crowd, and made photographs of Canned Heat’s Bob Hite (The Bear) and David Crosby. I had been making photographs for a few years, and had learned how to process film and print in the darkroom at the Naval Training Center hobby shop while my grandmother glazed ceramic frogs for the garden, but I look at December 21, 1969 as the day I really started to make photographs with intention. My grandmother died in the Naval Hospital from a cancer that ate her from within. My last memory was her reaching up for me from her bed to hold me, and as I started to stand up, her arms held me tight as if she wanted me to lift her away. David Crosby wrote “Carry Me” And then there was my mother: She was lying in white sheets there and she was waiting to die. She said, "If you'd just reach underneath this bed And untie these weights, I could surely fly. She's still smiling but she's tired, She'd like to hear that last bell ring. You know if she could she would Stand up, and she could sing, singing Carry me, carry me Carry me above the world Carry me, carry me. BRIEF BACKSTORY:
casey was born in portland, oregon, to sean and grace ivers. their father, being a truck driver, spend considerable amount of time away from home. therefore casey was mostly raised by their mother, who has been working as a social worker all her life, trying to help those that were in need.
even in cas’ early childhood it was apparent that sean’s income as a truck driver will not be enough to cover all family’s expenses. with a husband away from home for long periods of time, grace struggled to make the ends meet.
casey grew to know responsibility early in their life as dedication to help their parents out and especially their mom pushed them through the early stages of their life. as a teenager, they had to juggle school with part-time jobs in various local stores, libraries and the like to bring in some extra cash to the table. they graduated high school with excellent grades, which was a crucial aspect of them later on securing a spot in the school of journalism and communication at oregon’s university.
having seen the rough reality of life up close and thanks to their mom’s heartbreaking stories from her work, casey found their primary passion quite early in life. while grace was trying to help different individuals get back to their feet, casey’s goal was to bring these stories to the masses and reveal the truth of many unfortunate situations people were going through.
they started out their career in news agency as a camera operator while building their photography related portfolio. as years went by, casey excelled in their field of work and became a junior photojournalist, providing high quality photographs of various stories the local news agency wanted to publish.
during the recent years, they had picked up a few projects that required them to travel to different hostile locations within the states and on occasion, to several countries in europe and document the reality of life and death in battlefields of ongoing wars. although signing up for these projects was potentially dangerous, the stories that were prepared alongside casey’s documented footage, later proved to be quite successful, bringing the young photojournalist the amount of recognition casey had never dreamed of achieving. soon after a few articles of their success story were published in several online newspapers. as a result, the gateway to numerous different news agencies cracked open, allowing them to choose the stories they wanted to invest their time into and teams they’d preferred to be a part of.
the years that followed with casey being a fresh independent photojournalist, they embarked on quite a few journeys, picking out countries and locations that spiked their interest. during one of those travels they met madeline avalon - a woman of their dreams. or so they thought in the course of their short-lived relationship. the pair had hit it off right away as mutual attraction had brought them together and what started from a spark of chemistry soon turned into something more serious, tangible. the development of feelings followed, only for everything to come crashing down when madeline did not show up for one of their dates. communication was cut short and it seemed as though the woman had never existed to begin with. that was one of the very rare instances in their life that casey had allowed themselves to get emotionally invested into somebody else. each time they did, the dynamics never seemed to be able to get off the ground, for one reason or another. so, after those few tries, casey has had enough of dating and decided to leave that aspect of their life locked away.
now casey strives to bring injustices in the world to the surface with their documented footage, both by taking photographs or filming videos with a goal of shedding light on important matters that are usually overlooked or not discussed enough. achieving that purpose, though, required continuous traveling to locations that called out to them. thus, casey found themselves in avalon island, a place of great wonders. it was supposed to be a short vacation away from the constant chaos of their life, but with the passing days, it became apparent that perhaps this particular place could serve as something more than just a temporary stop to be checked off their never ending list of locations to visit.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
Best friend / ride or die – could’ve met literally anywhere thanks to cas’ constant traveling around. It was an instant connection which did not require additional work to be maintained. there is a strong sense of loyalty and trust between the two as they have helped each other through some challenging times in their life. the pair might have often been in separate locations due to casey’s hectic work schedule, however that had never stopped either of them from keeping the other one in the loop. one of the very few people who casey trusts with their life.
Casual friends – people casey met throughout their travels. could’ve been involved in one of their many projects.
Flings  – feelings are not their strongest suit and given their workaholic nature, there isn’t much space for anything else. however, there is a possibility for a few casual flings here and there.
Situationships – any connection that had/has the potential to become something more, but either never managed to properly get off the ground, one or both of them were unsure of how to approach it or it is still in its early stages.
Rivals – fellow journalists they competed with in the past or are competing currently. once you are in the field, there is no coming second. It’s always about who got the best story, best photographs, got to the ‘hottest’ locations first.
Mentee / younger sibling figure – although casey is an only child in the family, the ever persistent need to stand up for someone might steer them in certain situations with a potential to form a connection where they could apply their protective nature.

Memorable Things of 2021
- impulsively invested in weed stocks because of eddie and actually made money from it
- I thought the Pfizer vaccine made me blind but it turns out it was a concussion. Pfizer was a client of mine too which made it worst. I woke up one morning and only saw darkness and had to go the ER. They asked me what I think happened and I blamed the vaccine but it turns out it was because a sign fell on me which led me to have a concussion.
- Worked in a company where my boss was constantly gaslighting me. There was a day where everyone was called into the office so he could yell at me in front of everyone.
- adiba, susy and nina planned a joint birthday party for justin and i. no one has ever thrown me a birthday party before…
- Received my first 35mm rangefinder
- my friend passed away and after her funeral, my group of friends from hs decided that we aren’t gonna just waste our time “hustling”. eddie and i quit our jobs shortly after.
- Partook in one of the biggest sting operation. this client is literally the worlds most known sneaker brand that i won’t be naming.
- Finally stepped down my position as an undercover operative / private investigator
- Started playing Old School Runescape again and finally attained a level 99 skill cape in mining
- Worked in a factory to manufacture masks to be exported and distributed in India
- Went to my first concert after over a year and saw the drums.
- my car got broken into
- built a DIY at home darkroom and then it flooded
- my place flooded because of ida
- my cousin and her dog lived with me for about two months. my dog isn’t friendly with other dogs but towards the end, he was completely tired of my cousin’s dog. her dog would walk up to him and bark and he wouldn’t bother getting up to bark back. he’ll lay down and wrinkle his muzzle
- my cousin had a baby and i finally got to hold a baby for the first time
- had a therapist and case worker assigned to me and i honestly don’t know what happened. i can’t recall wtf happened aside from the fact that i think they were real and not imaginary

60. “have you always been this beautiful?” + 68. “You owe me a kiss.” for sean/reader plssss?
Glitter in The Air (Sean X Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: This is just pure Sean Falco bubble gum cotton candy fluff just for Joz ☺️☺️😍
You held your finger above the mouse and debated which road to take:
Add him. It's only been four years, but he's bound to remember you.
Forget it. It’s been four years, how would he ever remember you?!
Without a second thought you clicked add friend on the Facebook name “SeanFalco92.” You typed out a little note just in case.
Hey, Sean.
I'm sorry about what happened at the University. You're a bit infamous. Not every day the quiet Irishman gives it to the campus police. That fire hydrant was ugly anyways.
Y/N, The Dark Room Princess
Then you switched off the internet to prevent yourself from nervously checking every ten minutes to see a response. So you poured yourself a cup of coffee and put your headphones in. It was gonna be an all-nighter on your grad school thesis.
Your computer made a loud ping noise that startled you from sleep you didn't realize you had fallen into. You raised your head and looked at the time “11am.” Thank God, still a few hours until you had to turn in your thesis. Then you were free to never worry about university again, until the loans rolled in. You groaned.
Still you adjusted yourself and your glasses to read the message that had come up alongside the friend request acceptance.
Hey! Yeah it's totally been awhile. How have you been? I felt the wrath of my parents when they bailed me out. Due for a bit of community payback for a few months. Sorry “Service.” Next time I won't get nicked.
Not quite sure about the dark room reference, but was thinking you should meet me at the carnival on Friday. I know I shouldn't be on campus, but I had tickets before everything went down. Care to be my reason for still showing my face after all that humiliation?
Sean
You shook your head and laughed. He definitely didn't remember you, and you weren't exactly sure what he was up to. Who turns down an opportunity to spend the night with Sean Falco?
You took your time replying. Showering. Eating lunch. Printing your thesis and assembling it. Not wanting to appear eager in your reply. He pinged again.
You there? It looked like you were online. Sorry, didn't mean to appear so needy or forward. I just thought it’d be nice to be reacquainted.
You cocked an eyebrow, cheeks flushed a bit and finally returned a response.
Yeah. I would like that. I live in the Madison apartments. Get to Union station (I'm guessing you lost your license?) and we’ll take the Gold Line back to campus. See you at 7.
Sean's comeback was immediate.
It's a date!
Your face grew even hotter. Fuck, it's a date.
-----
You couldn't help but be nervous as you paced around the front steps of your apartment complex. You felt confident in the cute outfit you rushed out and bought impulsively. Or how you bit the bullet and got your hair done too after you delivered your thesis. You claimed it was in celebration of the rest of your life and nothing to do with the tall, lanky Irishman now headed your way.
“Sean!” a bit startled as you turned around in his direction.
Curly hair a bit wild, his jeans looking industrial but you knew they weren't bought that way. The purple tee-shirt he wore somehow made his leafy green eyes positively stunning. His hand was outstretched with a flower held towards you.
“T’ought I might go a bit old-fashioned t’night,” you took the --- from him. “Maybe a bit o’ congratulations for finishing your t’esis paper.”
Glad your hair covered your ears because you knew the tips were bright red. You never remembered his lilt being that strong or noticeable. Maybe for some strange reason it was his nerves too?
“A Peony? Sean, these are my favorites! How’d you know?” you smelled it briefly before you tucked it away behind your ear. Pleasantly surprised. “Thank you.”
“I may have creeped around your photos a bit, hope ye don't mind?” Sean raised his hands and crinkled one of his eyes shut.
“This is my first flower from anyone, so I'll take some light stalking in the meantime. We should hurry though, the train leaves in ten minutes.”
The two of you side by side. You sat turned to face him, back towards the window of the car. Sean faced forward and stole sideways glances while you talked.
“So what does a young lady with a Masters in Art History do fer livin?”
“I want to restore old paintings at the Met in New York, but I'll probably be stuck here in Portland till I'm thirty. What about you, think you can bypass a degree and still be a photojournalist? Maybe and Irish Ansel Adams?”
Sean laughed, “How did you know any of that?” He looked directly at you with a gleam in his eyes.
“You really don't remember me do you?”
You took a chance and slid your hand into his to prevent him from picking at a loose thread in his shirt. Sean easily enclosed it without hesitation.
“Mostly!” Cheek hidden in his smile. “I just thought something about ye clicked in my brain. Can't figure out why, but was hopin’ going out with ye would jog my mind. Is t’at ok?”
There was no time to answer. Soon enough you were back on campus. You talked Sean into some french fries and corn dogs before tugging at his hand excitedly.
“Ok, the Ferris Wheel! Let's do that first? We should be able to see downtown, and it'll be dusk by the time we get on.”
Sean hesitated as his eyes glanced up towards the top. A flash of nerves behind his eyes, but he gave up and shrugged. Obediently following you in line while he ate, a bit sullen.
Surely the guy who just fought a fire hydrant and a cop wouldn't be scared of heights, you thought. Then you flashed back to that day Freshman year and Sean's panicked voice in the dark. His ragged breath and palms that sweat through your tee shirt as he held onto your shoulders.
You shoved a cheese fry in your mouth as the line staggered forward slow and steady. The conversation had died quite suddenly, but you knew you had to take the chance. Cheesy romantic comedy as this all was, who doesn't want to be with a hot guy alone stuck on a ride?
“Uh y/n?” The giggle was back in Sean’s voice now as you broke from your reverie. “You've got some..” His thumb swiped at the corner of your mouth before he lifted it to his own. “Cheese.”
“Thank.. you?” The tension was silent and awkward.
Then, as the two of you simply stared at each other, Sean let out a sound somewhere between a strangled laugh and a snort. It was infectious, and you instantly joined in. That type of laughter you aren't sure how people achieve, but it leaves you breathless and annoying to everyone in your sight.
“I don't know.. why..I licked.. my thumb,” he wheezed around the most childlike giggle. “It was like a weird compulsion.” The way he said the word came out like “way-rd,” and instigated more laughter from deep inside you.
It seemed to ease Sean’s apprehension as the two of you began to board the ride, though. A calm coming over him as you both quieted down. He white-knuckled the bar as it clicked into place over your laps. Eyes wide as it lurched into motion.
You brushed your fingers tentatively over his clenched fist. Sean had a glazed look in his eyes as you slowed and stopped multiple times. You inches towards the top. He really was frightened.
“I've just gotta get over this. I'm confronting my fear is all.” He sounded so serious with a hint of pride, you stifle a chuckle with a bite of a lip.
Sean peered slightly over the edge of the car and looked downwards. Then it halted suddenly and he grabbed your hand and covered it with his massive one. You squirmed around to hold it properly as he squeezed his eyes shut. The car swung back and forth a bit on the precarious side, even for you. One last time, and it would start spinning in its giant lackadaisical circle.
Forward. Pitch to a stop even harder than the last few. This time Sean buried his face in your shoulder, and you relished this surprising role-reversal. But then he looked up at you in the most serious manner.
“Have you always been this beautiful?”
At the same exact time you said:
“First claustrophobia now heights”
You both sat up straight and gaped.
Again simultaneously.
“How d’ye know I'm claustrophobic?!”
“Did you just call me pretty?”
For the moment, Sean was no longer afraid. Your sentiment about his fear distracted him long enough that he loosened up immensely. Long fingers scratched at his mess of curls while deep in thought. Your eyebrows knit together in confusion, heart beating wildly in your ears.
Sean tugged at his chin with a forefinger and thumb. Obviously deep in thought as he gazed off into the sky. It was like a lightbulb finally popped on over his head.
“Jesus (jaysus) Dr Bacher’s photography course. Freshman year!”
You smiled, “By Jove I think he's got it!”
“T’at’s how ye know me. We got right stuck in that darkroom door. It was like a pitch-black tube really. Man I bloody well panicked.”
“I thought you were screwing with me at first! Your hands were so sweaty my tee-shirt was wet from where you were groping me. I kept thinking how every single girl in our class would've killed our professor to be stuck with the hot Irish guy. All that heavy breathing, my teenage brain thought it was sexual tension.”
“I was 18 wedged in a small space with a cute girl. It was claustrophobia, but it was also sexy.”
You bit the inside of your cheek and smiled. The two of you ignoring the ride and it's slow rotations. Still holding hands.
“I don't think I imagined that..” you struggled with the next line.. “parts of you were totally poking into me.”
Sean's mouth dropped open but he repeated his prior sentiment. A bit higher pitched. “I WAS 18 IN A SMALL SPACE WITH A HOT GIRL!” His lilt was more pronounced.
“Who gets a fear.. boner,” you rolled back into the hysterics from earlier on the ground.
Sean's face a deep crimson as his mouth tightened into a straight line. He looked away, but you knew he was playing along. Those eyes betrayed him with a hint of a smile.
“You told me if I got us out you’d take me on a date.”
“I said I'd kiss ye if we got out alive. Never knew how long it’d be til someone found us.”
“You did!” you agreed excitedly. “The door just needed hoisted up and back on the track. Which I did! Then we stumbled out and I practically threw myself in your arms for that kiss.”
“Wait, did we?” Sean turned back to you as the Ferris wheel slowed to another stop. Neither of you remembered it moving.
“No. Stupid ass Derek Sandoval was in the classroom waiting for you.”
“Oi! Watch now, he's still my mate.” Sean's turn to tease now.
“I bet he is.”
The two of you sat back in the car. Your fingers still entwined but the fright had melted away. Sean let out a long steady breath as he really looked out on the carnival and the multicolored lights as they danced around you. The stars blanketed the sky.
“Sean?”
His face heavenwards. “Yeah y/n?
“I think you owe me a kiss,” your words soft, almost a whisper.
Sean’s gaza came back down from the clouds. The music and noise from the crowds seemed to fade away as your breath caught in your throat. Without a second thought, he let go of your hand and put his arm around you. That soft mouth leaned over and almost melted with yours. Your bodies enveloped in a hug as Sean slid the tip of his tongue between your lips. Your own darted forward to fight with it.
Then the car hulked into motion again and you broke apart. A smirk on Sean's face revealed a dimple, and you joined in with a grin of your own.
“Well, that was worth a four year wait.”

I have copy of this photograph hanging in my house. I went to an Ansel Adams exhibit in Portland. It reminded me of my interest photography. I had first been introduced to Ansel Adams in college.
I understand why you want to manipulate the image the camera has captured. The capture does not necessarily reflect what your minds eye saw. The picture is not just captured on the media. It’s is also captured by the photographer.
The final result is showing what you eye saw.

A September film photography update: Darkroom, Scanning, ISO 100
Said with a friendly face. 25 July 2023 Camera: Minolta XG1 Lens: MD Rokkor 45mm f/2 Film: Kodak Ultramax 400 It’s been a year since I made my first print. In that year, I finished out my Darkroom classroom series at Portland Community College, then started making prints at The Portland Darkroom. I had a good clip going through spring, booking one darkroom appointment a month. But I haven’t done…

My childhood was spent at the Naval Training Center in San Diego. I learned to swim at the pool, watched Dr. No at the theater for a dime when I was eleven, and listened to Disraeli Gears on a turntable with headphones at the library. While my grandmother painted ceramic frogs in the pottery studio for my grandfather’s garden, I was in the hobby shop darkroom processing film and my prints from Navy Night at Disneyland. In Junior High and throughout High School I would get my clothes from the base shop that sold pants and shirts that had been left by enlisted men. My favorite coat was a wool peacoat that I lived in, and traveled with me when I hitchhiked across Mexico, the U.S. and Canada in the early ‘70’s. When I bulk loaded my 35mm film I buttoned it up and placed my arms through it backwards and it worked as a changing bag. My grandmother enjoyed having frequent garage sales, and when I moved to San Francisco, I think my beloved coat was adopted by a lucky neighbor. Marquam Bridge, study 6... or maybe it is Tilikum Bridge, Study 2
I've been working on a work project the past couple weeks. We have a customer who has encountered an issue with Tri-X film and I work with a darkroom tech who tends to jump at shadows but then never pursue them. So Kodak sent me a couple pro packs of Tri-X to test shoot. Specifically it was to see if I could produce static electricity exposure on the film. This is a thing that happens, but not that often. Film itself has an anti-stat layer in designed to help prevent this and environmental conditions have to be just right. Personally I was not expecting success with this... or I suppose it would actually be failure, but I set out to see what I could do nonetheless. In truth, a part of me likes projects like this. I like the technical exploration of film only slightly less than the creative exploration of it. Many years back I spent over a year photographing all the bridges of Portland with nothing but Tri-X. Over the past year I have shot very little Tri-X as I have been trying to keep room in my cameras for alternate black and white films. There are only so many film backs out there to fill.... So it was nice to have Tri-X back in my Hasselblad. And with those two together again I figured there was no better place to head than the bridges. As luck would have it, I was gifted a chill, foggy night that was the cherry on top.
It didn't take me long to finish off a roll of film. And none of it showed static exposure. Oh well, I expected as much. The project goes on though and the count stands at something like 6 exposed rolls so far with no sign of this issue. Still a few more rolls to go but it doesn't appear the film is proving any more susceptible to this than normal.
Oh, and it was fun to revisit these bridges and find some new compositions on them.

“2nd Street, Downtown Portland, December 2021.” . ©2021 Gary L. Quay I am doing a film test to correct some issues that I am having with developing film in my new darkrrom, and to diagnose some potential light leaks in my camera. This picture turned out pretty good, despite the speed in which I set up and took it. I'm also trying out a new developer that is supposed to be better than the venerable D76. It's from Photographers' Formulary, and is called FA-1027. So far, the results are pretty good. Max Leone Releases Stripped-Down Demo “in case (there’s a change of heart)
Tumblr media
The savviness of production nowadays is without a doubt impressive. But there’s an untouchable power that a completely stripped down, acoustic song with real, raw instrumentation possesses. All that matters is the voice, melody and lyrics. Max Leone’s new demo track “in case (there’s a change of heart)” is a testament to this quality.
Max Leone’s decision to directly upload “in case (there’s a change of heart)” to YouTube and Soundcloud shows his desire to put out music for his fans to intimately enjoy. He seems to really know who he is and what he wants to say. But it wasn’t all that long ago that Leone, born and raised in Portland, first started composing his own material and playing in jazz bands, while also teaching himself music production and posting remixes to Soundcloud. His love for music led Leone to attend Berklee College of Music for just one year before relocating to Los Angeles and signing to Darkroom Records.
The strongest quality of “in case (there’s a change of heart)” is its unapologetic honesty. The lyrics are extremely vulnerable, essentially granting us access into Leone’s inner thoughts and mind. In support of this lyrical truthfulness, Leone’s vocals sound perfectly real, not overproduced in the slightest.
“in case (there’s a change of heart)” arrives on the heels of Leone’s recently released single “5,” which also demonstrates his style of being minimalist yet mesmerizing. Max Leone, his music and entire artist brand, is likable and outright impressive. If Max Leone continues to be authentic and vulnerable like this, he is guaranteed to continue garnering more and more success. I’m extremely excited to watch him grow.

Chapter 9: A New Life
The years passed quickly, as David excelled in his job of a bail bondsman, alongside Cleo Fox. She had been in the business a long time and was immediately amazed at his uncanny ability for finding people. Unfortunately, without much to go on, they had yet to find the young boy he was really looking for. And as the years passed, he knew that young boy was probably nearing adulthood by now, as was his own daughter.
For the most part, they had settled nicely into the Land Without Magic for a second time. They settled into a small coastal town in Maine, with a house on the water and fairly secluded a few miles from the nearest town. It allowed them plenty of time in the water, while maintaining their lives on the mainland.
David was successfully running Cleo's east coast operation, while she ran the west coast operation out of Portland, Oregon. He traveled some to assist her with difficult cases, but was home most of the time, much to Snow's and his children's liking.
Since they settled down almost six years ago, the kids had settled as well. They were a normal family to everyone in town, traditional and tight knit and no one was any the wiser about their magical secret. The kids loved their school and had lots of friends. Snow loved working at the local daycare with small children, caring for them and teaching the preschoolers, while David worked in Cleo's office she kept there as the hub for the eastern seaboard. Their reputation was good enough that those from bigger cities often sought them out to find people instead of the firms in the cities.
That afternoon, he arrived home to find his family playing in the water on a warm, sunny summer day. It brought a smile to his face, as he watched their older children play in the water. Emma was almost eighteen now and he could hardly believe it. Ben was fourteen and the twins, Hunter and Rose were twelve. Perhaps the most incredible vision though was his wife, as she sat in the surf, her brilliant white mermaid tail splashing in the water and her long raven hair cascading down her back. He watched the way her beautiful face lit up, as their youngest ones swam around in the shallow water with her. Their cherub faces made his heart soar as much as hers did, as their three-year-old daughter, Astrid, swam around her mother and their baby son, Jackson, clung to Snow while splashing in the water. A lot of people thought they were crazy for having seven kids, but neither of them would change it for the world. A large family is what they both had always wanted and it was all the joy they could have imagined and more.
"Daddy!" Astrid called, as she flipped her lilac colored tail and swam toward the surf.
"Look Jack...Daddy's home," Snow cooed, as their son called out to him too. He smiled and looked around. When he saw that no one was around, per usual on their small property, he shed his shirt and walked into the water, before removing the pendant around his neck. His red tail appeared and he put his arms around Snow, as their lips met in a passionate kiss.
They were unaware though of the photos being snapped of them from afar…

"Okay...yeah, this sounds like a big job though. I'm going to need to call in my partner to help. The fees will be significant," Cleo said, from her office in Portland.
"This one has skipped bail twice and has stashed some really pricey watches from Phoenix in Portland. Your fees will be covered and you'll be well compensated," the man assured.
"Okay...I'll be in touch," she replied, as he ended the call and then made a call to David.

"Well...there's my favorite family," a woman said, as they entered the town diner that evening. Her name was Betty and since they had come to town, they had been her favorite customers. She loved children, so naturally, she got excited every time they came to the diner. She always made sure the large circular booth was available for them to sit in and promptly fetched the highchair for little Jack.
"Thanks Betty," Margaret, as she was known to the town, said, as she put the baby in the highchair.
"I see you lot when swimming again today. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were all half fish," she mentioned. Snow and David shared a secret smile, while the kids giggled.
"We do love the water…" David agreed, as they failed to notice the two men spying them from another table.
"I'll get your orders in right away," she said.
"Are you sure?" one man said, as they observed the attractive couple and their brood of equally attractive children.

"I'm telling you...I know what I saw. The kids...they walked into the water and then they had tails. The parents...they removed something from around their necks once they were in the water and then they had fish tails too," the other man said.
"You sound crazy," the first man accused.
"I know...but I snapped some photos and they're developing right now back in my darkroom," he said.
"Fine...let's go. If you are right...then we are looking at a fortune to the right buyer," he replied, as he looked at the family.
"A family of mermaids...we'll be swimming in money," he said deviously.

Their food was delivered promptly and they enjoyed their meal together as a family. As they were finishing, David's phone rang and he answered.
"Hey Cleo…" he answered.
"Portland, Oregon?" he asked, as he listened to her.
"Okay…we'll see you there," he replied, as he hung up the phone.
"You have a case?" Snow asked.
"Yeah, this time all the way in Oregon. It's a big payday," David replied.
"That's so far away," she mentioned. He smiled.
"I know, that's why she suggested that we make a family trip out of it. We can drive across the country and then you and the kids can have fun in Portland while I'm working," he replied. She smiled.
"Oh, that sounds perfect!" Snow gushed.
"Do they have an ocean in Portland?" Hunter asked.
"They sure do. It's a different ocean and a bit further from the city, but we'll find it," he promised, as the kids all got excited at the prospect of a family trip together.

Neal watched the cops at the corner and cursed inwardly. He had really done it this time. The watches he stole for a quick profit had backfired. He thought that skipping town in Phoenix was enough to take the heat off, but it had caught up to him in Portland. And now he was trapped. He was going to need some serious help escaping to Canada without being caught and right now, he had no means to do so. That meant laying low for a while and hoping they didn't find him.
Since escaping Neverland and landing in this new place, things had not been good. He avoided the system, not wanting anything to do with any foster families and had been living mostly on the streets for the last few years. He stole to get by and hated it, but it was the only way to stay alive. Sometimes, even Neverland and dodging Pan was better than this land. He went the other way and hoped that found a way to escape soon or he would be going to prison for a very long time.

He had been convinced by the photos and now he and his new partner watched the family pack their van for a family trip.
"Did you get a hold of your boss?" the portly man asked.
"Yes...and the Madam was very interested in the photos you took. She wants them," the thin man replied.
"Then we're going to have to follow them. Looks like a family trip," the portly one said.
"Don't worry, the Madam is wiring me the funds for anything needed. She wants us to bring them to Seattle once we have them," the thin one replied.
"Well…I heard they're headed for Oregon. That won't be far to go once we get them," the portly one said.
"Then this will be the beginning of a beautiful partnership, Jasper," he said, addressing his new partner.
"Indeed it will, Horace,"

"Well...we're all packed and ready," Snow said, as she came out of the house with the baby in her arms.
"Okay...and I've got the route all mapped out," he said, as they shared a kiss. He smiled at her, as she put the baby in his car seat and buckled him in, before they both got into the front seat.
"Wow...you plotted out all the beaches along the way," Snow gushed, as she looked over their route.
"Of course...we may have to drive there, but I made sure there will be plenty of water time for this family," he replied, as they kissed again, before he put the van in gear and they began their journey…
