Can we just...stop comparing Colin to Anthony? Please? They aren't remotely close to the same person, and it's frankly disheartening to see time and time again now.

Unless I am very much mistaken, Colin and Anthony have the same father. They both watched said father die from a bee sting. They both watched their mother hold her dying husband in her arms and sob because she just lost the love of her life. The only difference? Anthony was 18, and Colin was 10-12, depending if we're talking show or book. Regardless, watching his father die absolutely gave Colin trauma.

Colin was sent off to Eton not months after his father died. He never was able to process it with his own family, because they stuck together and processed it together. But Colin had to go away to school. And when he was home, he would bring flowers and play games and try to keep everyone smiling. The only way he felt useful was to focus on everyone else's happiness and diminish his own needs.

He went away on travels each year to try to find himself, process his own trauma and experiences. His engagement to Marina blew up in his face, so he immediately left to go traveling, to lick his wounds away from the rest of the ton. And while he was gone, Penelope was the main one to read and reply to his letters. When he got back, his own family diminished him, said it was a waste of time, that his "prattling on about his travels" was boring. So what did that teach Colin? That his family doesn't care about him. Doesn't value him. Doesn't find his time, his experiences, worth it. Eloise says to Pen (in front of Colin) that she found his letters about Greece dull, and couldn't finish them.

So at the beginning of season 3, when he's returned from another summer away, after no one in his family replied to a single one of his letters, and in the carriage to the presentation, he's absolutely going to not want to talk about his travels with Anthony. "Who are you and what have you done to our brother?" You happened to Colin, Anthony. Colin is masking and pretending like his travels weren't a big deal, that they didn't affect him, when he straight up tells Penelope later that he used the time away to remake himself into a new man. To try out a new persona, away from the ton, where no one knew him as Colin Bridgerton, or as a Bridgerton at all. He was just some nameless man.

He felt like he had no one back home to care about him, so the problem must obviously be him. That there was something wrong with who he is as a person, and that maybe this new version of himself would finally make the people back home--and his family--care about him. Maybe this version would finally be the version of him that's good enough.

So when he comes back to London, he's a flirt. He plays at being a "rake." He sleeps with random women. He goes out drinking with his "friends" all the time, laughs with them at their conquests. But he doesn't enjoy any of it. His mother tells him that he's always been one of her most sensitive children, always putting others first, helping them, trying to lighten the mood. But she also says that he downplays himself for the sake of others. That he puts on armor, that he needs to not put others first so he can ensure that the armor will not some day rust and be unable to be removed. She is possibly the only person who sees Colin, truly sees him.

He feels like he needs to hide his sensitive side, be less needy, be stronger, be more manly. (I would eat my hat if Anthony hasn't told him to "be a man" more than once.) This flirty rake is not who he is at his core. At his core, he is kind, and sensitive, and craves connection. He craves connection so deeply. He wants to be seen, to be loved, to be cared for, to be cherished. Ultimately, he wants someone to value him, like he does for all those around him that he cares about. His family ignored him for that entire summer, and he still brought back incredibly thoughtful gifts for each of them, that shows how much he knows them and loves them. He wants to be able to love, care for, and cherish someone in return.

How is his desire for love and to be loved and this ease in which he creates a new Colin to try and please everyone else not a trauma response related to love and self worth?

⁰² profiles: baddies ft. the mutant ninja turtles

It's still a mystery how Y/N has avoided ending up in the ER going this long without proper food. In her defense, she's just another science major trying to churn out assignments before deadlines and definitely before somebody blows up the lab... for the third time this semester. Holds the title for having the worst possible comedic timing and 100% will laugh at her own jokes. In her books, if she sat through AP Maths in high school without going insane (that part's still debatable), she can do anything under the Sun. Started dancing when she was five due to her penchant for avoiding all human interactions and it's stuck with her to this day.

MINJEONG was used to being the recluse with her dad's job making them move across the country frequently, leaving no place for friendships. Up until starting of high school when they finally settled in Seoul, that is. The last thing she had expected was a bickering pair to barge into the classroom in the middle of her introduction, with loud yelps and sheepish grins, almost as if the teacher's rant was routine. Minjeong, now a music major, thrives when left to her own devices and is a little awkward in interactions with anyone other than her close friends or guitar, but since getting adopted by befriending Y/n and Sungchan, she's come to mirror their bluntness. She's a pro enabler, if anything, and eats up drama like it's a damn soap opera.

If you asked anyone to name the biggest softie in the entire campus, nine out of ten times you'd hear the name EUNSEOK. He has a reputation for being flippant but that's just because he'd rather say something unserious than come off as pushy. Literally will help anybody who asks but nobody usually does thanks to his rbf. It's become a running gag within the group to force him into binging cheesy romcoms, the bane of his existence basically. Has unresolved beef with Song Kang. He met the rest through Chenle since they're on the basketball team and often hung out one on one before the others started joining them. He's one of many Civil Engineering majors sleeping through lectures and collectively losing their minds the night before an exam.

SUNGCHAN and Y/n, dumb and dumber. They've been attached at the hips since kindergarten when he kicked a lollipop out of her hand in the sandbox so she kicked sand into his face. At first their parents feared frequent calls from the school since they lived in the same area and would be attending the same institutions but neither held a grudge. Lives off of protein shakes and sarcasm. His sense of humor is a little (read: majorly) skewed and sometimes he'll only exclusively reply via memes. Safe to say the journalism major still regrets the decision of joining the soccer team the very same year their new captain—and only non freshman—unexpectedly quit and he just had to run for the position. So, basically he's lacking sleep, functioning braincells and money. Sweet!

Try as he might, CHENLE cannot be considered anything remotely close to the fuckboy image he tries to put on (which may or may not have been a product of too many teen dramas). The nursing major is a social butterfly, always eager to make new friends. Despite being one of Kwangya's star basketball players, he attends a lot of other sports events. It at one of the soccer games that he stumbled upon Y/n and the rest screaming at their friend from the bleachers with huge banners having less than appropriate jokes for slogans in a very public audience. He's easy to talk to and sometimes can be a little too frank, but never with the intent to offend. Hands down the best hypeman ever!

People who come across JISUNG are often baffled thinking how this six foot giant clutz made it to the age of nineteen but here he is. Anything mildly tech-y he sees is automatically another wonder of the world in his eyes. The biggest regret of his life is not putting actual effort into those high school classes because wtf is Calculus and why won't it still not leave him alone (wtf?!). His family owns the dance studio that Y/n is a member of so they've practically known each other since forever—as in, witnessed every breaking legs level krumping attempts or cracking up at each other's emboîtés in the mirror. He might be on the shy side and get mistaken as a weeb far too many times for comfort but he's not above petty arguments because he can and will argue with a wall deadass.

NINGNING is known as one of the it-girls on campus, not only for her looks but also for her easy-going nature. She's studying fashion and doing modeling gigs on the side on top of working at the animal shelter/pet store near uni. Y/n happened to meet her while getting supplies for her dog Daldal and immediately acquired a 'friendship crush', even want as far as volunteering to make posters for the theatre kids when she saw her sign up. Ningning is very optimistic and having connections with a senior didn't have any obvious downsides, so they ended up hanging out after classes, going shopping and chatting non-stop too often to not be considered friends. She might be the most 'normal' out of the bunch (but the unmailed loveletters to Beyoncé hiding under her bed say otherwise).

Reader is a few years older than Caitlin, was the #1 pick in her draft after leading her team to a national championship. Was super hyped up going in but struggled a lot with transitioning to the W and then dealt with some injuries before finally finding her stride in the later half of the season but at that point most “fans” had written her off as a dud. Continues to be an underrated player until her breakout season and she finally starts getting the recognition she’s been missing for the last x years. When Caitlin gets drafted and struggles/doesn’t meet peoples expectations her first few games there are some fans that can see the parallel and are like “I hype she doesn’t get the y/n treatment, neither one of them deserve(d) that” Reader gets asked her thoughts on the discourse in a post game “I just saw the tweets actually and I was wanting to reach out bc I’ve been following her game for a few years now so I’m glad you asked but yeah I don’t really think that’s a fair assessment to her game…” then goes on to praise her and talk about how there are just things about her game that you just can’t teach and how she 100% believes that when she hits her stride she’s gonna be hard to beat. Then implores fans to not count her out just yet bc the W is a whole new ballgame that ccs got to learn and adjust to but she has no doubts that she will and that she will become a force of nature once she does, they just need to give her time to get there.

Then after the post presser she sends a real heartfelt message over dms reiterating what she said and letting her know if she ever needs someone to talk to who knows exactly the type of pressure she is under then to not hesitate to reach out. Then gives her her personal number bc she maybe has been harboring a teensy crush on the younger girl and hopes she’ll be more likely to get to know her that way.

Then while Caitlin is trying to process that THE y/n l/n just gave her her number half of her old Iowa teammates send her the clip of reader praising Cait for 5 minutes straight bc she has been very vocal about being madly in love with the woman during every possible opportunity. She ends up doing a group FaceTime with Kate, Gabbie, and Jada to help her draft a thank you message over text.

Then next presser cc gets asked about it and she blushes saying 15 people sent her clips bc they knew she is obsessed. When she’s done she sees a text saying “so you’re obsessed with me?” And thus the flirtation begins with ccs response being “I could ask you the same since you’re lurking on the live”

Fans eat up all their interactions and interviews when they talk about eachother and are obsessed with asking if they’re dating or not and trying to prove it one way or another. Little do they know they already started dating bc they hit it off instantly when they met, and r is just the person cc needs in her life bc she 100% understands what she’s going through

Full family photo! Then Milton decides that while everyone is here he may as well show them the puppet show he’s been working on.

Rahul: What is it called

Milton: School

Cassandra: I think I’ll have to watch from a seat if that’s okay

Savannah: Mama has a baby inside so she needs to be careful

Mercedes nods halfheartedly while Milton slips on the puppets and begins his tale.

The show isn’t all that bad. Of course at creativity level 3 it isn’t all that good either… There are a few funny jokes in it that make the Chopra’s laugh though, Rahul is the best audience a kid could want. Alexander and James are using the time that Milton is being watched to work out in the home gym. They’ve already seen many versions of this puppet play from Milton. Hamlet hangs around for a while hoping for a pat but the viewers seem engrossed.

In the end Milton receives a round of applause from the family.

Savannah: We should have a puppet theatre

Mercedes: Why

Savannah: We could do stories together

Mercedes: But we can do that with dolls. Why change

Rahul: You’re not a big fan of change are you Mercedes

Mercedes: No papa. But I would like a treehouse

Rahul: *laughs* Come on you two, we should find Uncle Alexander and Uncle James and thank them before we leave

Savannah: Why

Rahul: Good manners that’s why. Now come along

Savannah: I’d like an older cousin

Mercedes: I don’t want one to boss us around like Milton does

Milton: I heard that

Rahul: Girls, I said now!

Twins: *quickly standing* Yes papa

As they leave the library Milton sighs and turns to Viola.

Milton: Did you have a good time Viola

Viola: Ye ye, gooey. Ug?

Milton hugs the toddler who is happy with the attention. Alexander and Cassandra walk in talking and the youngest Chopra is scooped up.

Cassandra: We better be getting back to Henford

Alexander: Before storytime? I need practice

Cassandra: I doubt a teen would like you reading to them but what do I know. I think my ones are getting tired, and I may need a nap myself

Alexander: Take care of yourself sis

Cassandra: I will, and if I don’t Rahul does

The rest of the day passes quickly. Alexander has joined the critic career with his eye on being a food critic, finding it a great way to combine his literature degree with his cuisine hobby. James takes care of chores around the house since he is a neat sim after all. Alexander practices his research and debate until he hits level 4, coincidentally enough the level he needs for promotion. James meanwhile spends some time playing games online with Joey, Keira and Marta.

Milton looks at this toys again before bed. He’s glad Alexander got them for him, he’d missed them. Who knows if Bella’s journals would provide any answers as to where she was, but he wanted to keep trying. He only had one mummy, and he missed her every day. Of course in the middle of the night he woke up from a bad dream and realised the way to protect himself was clear, bear suit! Before we knew it Monday was here and Hamlet was waking everyone up accordingly.

James decided to spend the day doing something he loved, fishing! He invited the club around to check out the stream that ran along the edge of the property. It had begun to snow but with no ice the fish should be biting. I had hoped they would all deposit themselves along the stream but nope. Bob decided his time was better spent upstairs watching the culinary channel. Reece caught something! It wasn’t a fish but hopefully his skill has gone up a little.

After school...

James: How was school today

Milton: Good and bad. Can you help me with my project please Uncle James? It's meant to be a volcano

James: Sure, as an ex-teacher I know my way around a fake volcano. Now tell me about school. Why was it good and bad?

Milton: I gave the note from Alexander to my teacher about my costume and she was fine with it

James: But?

Milton: *sighs* Reynaldo and Maria hung out with me but everyone else avoided me

Friendly reminder that the twins go to a different school, I promise they were not avoiding him.

James: Don’t worry about "everyone else", focus on your friends. If they still think you’re awesome enough to hang around with no matter what you want to wear, they’re good ones

Milton: I guess. It’s just hard. People treat me different even before I was in this

James: Milton... your father died and we don't know what happened to Bella. Many of the kids in your class won’t be able to think about what that means, and won’t know what to say about it. Sometimes if people don’t know what to say they’ll say nothing

Milton: I don’t miss father so much now. But I need to know what happened to mummy

James: If you need any help going through those journals I’d be happy to help

Milton: I know but… I want to do it by myself. It helps me feel close to mummy. There, is the volcano done?

James: Almost. Now you have to present it

Milton: Present it?

James: Practice for class. I’ll be a good audience and you'll be prepared for your classmates

Joey decided to swing around for dinner to catch up with everyone. It’s leftover ham from the holiday so everyone ends up feeling a bit dazed. Alexander has to go write another column for work afterwards so James, Milton and Joey put in some gaming time. I’m not sure how Milton does in the bear suit but he’s not sad so we’ll stick with it.

You consider quitting genshin sometimes

(very self-insert)

when life gets busy, or when you get bored of the game, you genuinely consider quitting.

because it eats up your time and wears down your attention. and recently, the game hasn’t been very rewarding lately.

you’re ar 60, and you’ve done everything in the game. you’ve maxed out the exploration progress. did all the quests.

farming for characters isn’t going good either. your artifact rolls keep getting worse, especially for the ones that you really hoped would be good.

getting primos isn’t easy either. and it doesn’t help that the characters you want aren’t coming home. you either keep getting weapons, or lose the 50/50.

this game is adding more stress than necessary to your life. you already have a lot going on.

so you’ve made it a habit to take breaks from this game. whether it was for a day, week, month or more.

sometimes, you don’t notice how you’ve forgotten about it. especially during your longer breaks.

and you even frequently feel… free of it.

but it never stays that way. you are constantly reminded of genshin (stupid ads). constantly beckoned back. tempted with better rewards and new characters.

and it works everytime. even if it sometimes takes a while. you always go back to them. something in you feels like you have a sense of responsibility to come back. what does this mean?

it doesn’t help that the longer you are gone, the sadder the welcome back message becomes. and odd.

“Welcome back, we missed you!”

“We are relieved you came back. We thought you wouldn’t.”

“We apologize . We’re trying to be better.”

“We’re sorry.”

“Please stay.”

“Please.”

You encounter these messages, different each return, but have never heard about anyone else experiencing this. Guess you’re a special case.

random au thoughts i have while playing video games part 1.

Some Stardew Valley Rise au future Donatello and Farmer reader thoughts I had while playing Stardew Valley.

gonna make a part to of some fluff headcanons soon!

imagining future Donatello working as a mechanic in town while working part-time at the local library and museum. he enjoys his work, the peace Pelican Town brings him. loving the joy he finds in his hobbies and his work there.

he has won the fall fair competition for best invention at least ten times in a row (and he is incredibly smug about it)

farmer reader has recently gotten settled into their farm. happily tending to their crops and the plants they keep in the greenhouse they repaired. happily giving each of the cows, goats, chickens and ducks their morning/afternoon cuddles after breakfast.

they come into town to get ingredients to make some nice blueberry muffins for lunch or to go to the local library for some good books to read by the fire at the end of a long day with their trusty fluffy companion by their side.

eventually, right after they accidentally break their tractor, they decide to pay a visit to the local mechanic. Donatello.

when they visit Donnie is in the middle of working on a more advanced telescope to go stargazing with.

when he looks up he spots reader looking at the inventions displayed around his shop. watching the way their eyes sparkle as they gaze at the details he's put into his work or how they murmur to themselves about how incredible the craftsmanship is.

he doesn't know why, nor does he admit it at first, but he can't help but feel this fluttering in his heart. this warmth blooming within his chest he can't quite place.

he brushes it off for now and just calls reader over to take a look at the part that got broken off their tractor.

reader greets him with a warm friendly smile (even more friendly than the ones the people of Pelican town would give oh my god-) as they sit the part on the counter. shyly rubbing the back of their neck as they explain the situation.

the whole time he is fixing the part, reader is watching and listening to everything he has to say. watching the way his hands skillfully shaped the metal and how he rambled happily about the condition the part was despite the damage.

it makes reader smile. a softer smile. one of admiration.

even when the part is finished, reader sticks around for a little while longer. asking If he'd like any help moving some things around or asking questions about all the inventions he's made.

normally this would annoy him. After all, he has to work. he has to make sure things get done properly. yet this time...he isn't. In fact, he welcomes it.

eventually reader has to leave, but that doesn't stop them from visiting him each day.

every time they always bring him things fresh from their farm. a basket of fresh veggies from their garden, a knitted scarf they made themselves and dyed purple, homemade jams & meals for him etc.

Donnie is flustered at first but of course, returns the favor. giving readers farm new sprinklers that help with watering and keeping their plants healthy, and a belt that has multiple pockets that can keep their tools organized-heck he even makes a device that reader can use to call him to get them out of the mine.

with each gift. with each visit. each conversation-that fluttering only grows stronger within his heart.

until one night it hits him.

he's in love.

it all makes sense to him now. how they both would shy from each other's gaze when their hands brushed together. how their faces would flush when Donnie would carry Reader out of the mines to Harvey in town, the way they would glance at each other softly while they sat on readers front porch watching the sunset-

yep. yep. yep-hes in love.

and his brain is absolutely spinning at the idea of being able to...confess his feelings to reader.

the next morning, or rather around lunchtime-reader finds a lovely written letter from Donnie. asking them to come meet him in the mountains near the train station at around seven or eight.

reader of course, can't help but feel their own heart racing when they finish reading and it. managing to finish all their work by the time they make their way over to the designated meeting spot.

He's waiting there of course. this soft but nervous smile on his face. dressed in his best yet comfortable clothes wearing the scarf they gave him and standing next to the telescope he'd been working on since the day he met them.

most of the night is spent gazing at the stars. rambling on about things until they're both smiling brightly.

and when everything goes quiet. they just look at each other beneath the moonlight. this softness in the air…before Donnie takes a deep breath and just says what's on his mind.

holding reader's face in his hands as he confesses how they make his heart soar with their lovely smile. how their laugh makes his cheeks burn and the warmth of their lovely personality brings him a joy he hadn't felt in years he considers them to be his starlight. his other half, his friend, and his inspiration all at the same time.

reader is just floored-yet their heart is soaring at his words.

donatello is, of course, nervous at first-did he mess it up? was it too much? did he over plan this? was it cheesy? gosh he messed up-

it isn't until he sees this soft yet cheerful smile on their face and how their hands squeeze that he relaxes.

reader just slowly tips their sun hat up, gently tracing hearts on his hands as a quick heads up to him before they lean in for a soft kiss. murmuring softly, "If I'm your starlight, then you must be my moon..right?"

he had never wrapped his arms around reader so fast. He is so so happy. They are both laughing. peppering kisses across each other's faces. trying not to cry as they look into each other's eyes.

the telescope he put so much care and work into reflecting both farmer and inventor happily cuddled up side by side. moonlight and starlight shining down upon them.

I already knew I had no interest in Palworld when they showed the guns and slavery of the Pals in the first trailer but hearing that not only has the company dabbled in NFTs and AI but there's also HUMAN slavery AND the farms are called plantations has just totally turned me off. why did the devs think that was even slightly appropriate in this fucking day and age?

like I DO think we need an open world survival Pokemon-esq game, we really do. but not Palworld. hopefully Kindred Fates will fill that void properly, in a responsible, not overly and poorly thought out edgy way.

#granted if they make it clear in the game that the slavery is Bad and there are better ways to do the things you need to do #then that's slightly better. Morrowind has slavery in it too but it makes it very clear that it's Bad #and in quests involving them they give you options to help the slaves out and allow you to free them (two Telvanni quests come to mind)#it's not great but it's slightly better. but like. if it's like the guns then I suspect it's in there just to be edgy and “cool”#which isn't okay and shouldn't be defended. that's not okay. that's not ever okay.#and it sucks cuz again we do need a game like Palworld but without all the terrible things! Nintendo has been slacking hard and also #they been playing it way too safe and I feel like anything they make will kinda fall short #I enjoyed Scarlet and Violet but I feel like they could have done a little more if they were braver #and also. you know. payed their workers and didn't push out a new Pokemon every year.#give it time to sit so new ideas can develop properly. come on now.#anyways I have no idea if any of this is really coherent or just a rapid flow of thoughts. whatever #I'm excited for Kindred Fates. it comes out this year supposedly so I'm gonna grab that when I can #also there's nothing wrong with edgy concepts in video games. Palworld just does it badly to me #and as always people are allowed to like the game but. use some critical thinking #I've seen little bits of the game that look really fun. Well uh, I can't say I've met too many a' them bein' uh, locked in the dungeon an' all. The only other humans besides Henry I know is Joey Drew and Sammy and I hate their guts... So, I can't really answer yer question, sorry about that.

somewhere else;; what is known is what is safe. your fear is never inside you, always somewhere else. your home is the best place in the world; all other places are scary. the people you already know are better than anyone else. so you go on, playing with broken toys, wearing dead people's clothes. you can be torn down to shreds, abused, tortured and miserable. but at least you know where it comes from, which gives you a sense of comfort and even control. the unknown hides dangers you don't understand, so it scares you. but alongside the dangers, you miss the wonder, adventures and opportunities that you could've otherwise had. my guess is that you've dealt with grief and loss.

am getting a lot of character inspo for shri’iia from amy gone girl. I don’t think she’s as smart nor calculated but she is similar to some degree in that she’s hyper aware of the current persona she’s presenting and how she’s appealing to the people. the masks and the mjndgames, that’s basically how shri’iia operated while she was still serving under her matriarch in menzoberranzan. she needed to play the roles the matriarch required of her and it was only when she was with her matriarch that she can be ‘Real Shri’iia’, and that’s how I imagined shri’iia to be esp in act 1 when she is so new and scared in the surface. she needed to work out who these people are (her companions) and what they liked, so her first persona - her blank one - the charming helpful paladin who got tadpoled and wants to go back home just like the rest of them (which was half true). she didn’t really argue and she generally agreed to what the group wanted. she was helpful and co-operative, ask her about her past and she will tell you something bland and generic- interesting enough to be ooh-ing about but not too interesting that they’ll delve deeper into it. then, when she got to know them a little more, she started crafting little personas adjacent to her first one ; she’s the girl who’s curious about magic but never had the chance to learn with gale, she’s a cool girl who likes mischief as debauchery with astarion, she’s the one who likes to take risks and live in the moment with karlach, the knight in silver armor who’s willing to help the tieflings with wyll, a disciplined fighter with lae’zel, someone who understands the depths of devotion with shadowheart - but none are really her, not really. ofc her own personality might slip in here and there but for the most part she’s appealing to them and what they’d like her to be but none of it is really genuine. shri’iia just needs to be on their good side to minimise the chances of them turning on her, and if they let her guard down it’ll be easier for her to get rid of them should the need arise. taking up all these different masks, collecting all these intel abt them to be used for later, slithering and making a place in their minds - it’s really how she operated back in menzoberranzan. I think the only one who catches on to her game is astarion but that’s bc he’s doing the same thing too, so it’s very game recognises game lmfao

it’s only when she breaks her oath and goes through her existential crisis that all of her masks drop and her real self comes out. she was never that kind of person lmfao ^, she’s greedy, selfish, paranoid and rather obsessive. she doesn’t care about a lot of things that doesn’t concern her, she has a cruel streak that she hasn’t shown before, and she hates doing anything that won’t really benefit her. but she’s fiercely loyal to anyone she likes, like a dog. and severely she craves validation and approval - also like a dog.

Okay but. What is tgcs long term goal. Because I'm really starting to think they don't have one,, everything they do seems to be building them up to a point where no one wants to play sky anymore?? Everything they do feels like massive self sabotage? It just feels too stupid on their part for it to be a coincidence and yet. It probably is. And sky is going to keep succeeding as a game because no matter what happens and no matter what they do, people only talk about it for a few days and then go back to playing like normal. It's like they know that no one will actually do anything to stop them,, they know no amount of people will stop playing "just because" of whatever the reason of the week is. They can just keep getting worse and worse and worse

despite how much WOL art i make i still have the ''I NEED TO DRAW 14 ART'' crave in my gut like i need to draw canon scenes and canon characters and such. it is disgusting how much this game motivates me to pick up a pencil and write or draw NOTHING has ever pushed me like this

Tumblr’s Core Product Strategy

Here at Tumblr, we’ve been working hard on reorganizing how we work in a bid to gain more users. A larger user base means a more sustainable company, and means we get to stick around and do this thing with you all a bit longer. What follows is the strategy we're using to accomplish the goal of user growth. The @labs group has published a bit already, but this is bigger. We’re publishing it publicly for the first time, in an effort to work more transparently with all of you in the Tumblr community. This strategy provides guidance amid limited resources, allowing our teams to focus on specific key areas to ensure Tumblr’s future.

The Diagnosis

In order for Tumblr to grow, we need to fix the core experience that makes Tumblr a useful place for users. The underlying problem is that Tumblr is not easy to use. Historically, we have expected users to curate their feeds and lean into curating their experience. But this expectation introduces friction to the user experience and only serves a small portion of our audience.

Tumblr’s competitive advantage lies in its unique content and vibrant communities. As the forerunner of internet culture, Tumblr encompasses a wide range of interests, such as entertainment, art, gaming, fandom, fashion, and music. People come to Tumblr to immerse themselves in this culture, making it essential for us to ensure a seamless connection between people and content.

To guarantee Tumblr’s continued success, we’ve got to prioritize fostering that seamless connection between people and content. This involves attracting and retaining new users and creators, nurturing their growth, and encouraging frequent engagement with the platform.

Our Guiding Principles

To enhance Tumblr’s usability, we must address these core guiding principles.

Expand the ways new users can discover and sign up for Tumblr.

Provide high-quality content with every app launch.

Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.

Retain and grow our creator base.

Create patterns that encourage users to keep returning to Tumblr.

Improve the platform’s performance, stability, and quality.

Below is a deep dive into each of these principles.

Principle 1: Expand the ways new users can discover and sign up for Tumblr.

Tumblr has a “top of the funnel” issue in converting non-users into engaged logged-in users. We also have not invested in industry standard SEO practices to ensure a robust top of the funnel. The referral traffic that we do get from external sources is dispersed across different pages with inconsistent user experiences, which results in a missed opportunity to convert these users into regular Tumblr users. For example, users from search engines often land on pages within the blog network and blog view—where there isn’t much of a reason to sign up.

We need to experiment with logged-out tumblr.com to ensure we are capturing the highest potential conversion rate for visitors into sign-ups and log-ins. We might want to explore showing the potential future user the full breadth of content that Tumblr has to offer on our logged-out pages. We want people to be able to easily understand the potential behind Tumblr without having to navigate multiple tabs and pages to figure it out. Our current logged-out explore page does very little to help users understand “what is Tumblr.” which is a missed opportunity to get people excited about joining the site.

Actions & Next Steps

Improving Tumblr’s search engine optimization (SEO) practices to be in line with industry standards.

Experiment with logged out tumblr.com to achieve the highest conversion rate for sign-ups and log-ins, explore ways for visitors to “get” Tumblr and entice them to sign up.

Principle 2: Provide high-quality content with every app launch.

We need to ensure the highest quality user experience by presenting fresh and relevant content tailored to the user’s diverse interests during each session. If the user has a bad content experience, the fault lies with the product.

The default position should always be that the user does not know how to navigate the application. Additionally, we need to ensure that when people search for content related to their interests, it is easily accessible without any confusing limitations or unexpected roadblocks in their journey.

Being a 15-year-old brand is tough because the brand carries the baggage of a person’s preconceived impressions of Tumblr. On average, a user only sees 25 posts per session, so the first 25 posts have to convey the value of Tumblr: it is a vibrant community with lots of untapped potential. We never want to leave the user believing that Tumblr is a place that is stale and not relevant.

Deliver great content each time the app is opened.

Make it easier for users to understand where the vibrant communities on Tumblr are.

Improve our algorithmic ranking capabilities across all feeds.

Principle 3: Facilitate easier user participation in conversations.

Part of Tumblr’s charm lies in its capacity to showcase the evolution of conversations and the clever remarks found within reblog chains and replies. Engaging in these discussions should be enjoyable and effortless.

Unfortunately, the current way that conversations work on Tumblr across replies and reblogs is confusing for new users. The limitations around engaging with individual reblogs, replies only applying to the original post, and the inability to easily follow threaded conversations make it difficult for users to join the conversation.

Address the confusion within replies and reblogs.

Improve the conversational posting features around replies and reblogs.

Allow engagements on individual replies and reblogs.

Make it easier for users to follow the various conversation paths within a reblog thread.

Remove clutter in the conversation by collapsing reblog threads.

Explore the feasibility of removing duplicate reblogs within a user’s Following feed.

Principle 4: Retain and grow our creator base.

Creators are essential to the Tumblr community. However, we haven’t always had a consistent and coordinated effort around retaining, nurturing, and growing our creator base.

Being a new creator on Tumblr can be intimidating, with a high likelihood of leaving or disappointment upon sharing creations without receiving engagement or feedback. We need to ensure that we have the expected creator tools and foster the rewarding feedback loops that keep creators around and enable them to thrive.

The lack of feedback stems from the outdated decision to only show content from followed blogs on the main dashboard feed (“Following”), perpetuating a cycle where popular blogs continue to gain more visibility at the expense of helping new creators. To address this, we need to prioritize supporting and nurturing the growth of new creators on the platform.

It is also imperative that creators, like everyone on Tumblr, feel safe and in control of their experience. Whether it be an ask from the community or engagement on a post, being successful on Tumblr should never feel like a punishing experience.

Actions & Next Steps

Get creators’ new content in front of people who are interested in it.

Improve the feedback loop for creators, incentivizing them to continue posting.

Build mechanisms to protect creators from being spammed by notifications when they go viral.

Expand ways to co-create content, such as by adding the capability to embed Tumblr links in posts.

Principle 5: Create patterns that encourage users to keep returning to Tumblr.

Push notifications and emails are essential tools to increase user engagement, improve user retention, and facilitate content discovery. Our strategy of reaching out to you, the user, should be well-coordinated across product, commercial, and marketing teams.

Our messaging strategy needs to be personalized and adapt to a user’s shifting interests. Our messages should keep users in the know on the latest activity in their community, as well as keeping Tumblr top of mind as the place to go for witty takes and remixes of the latest shows and real-life events.

Most importantly, our messages should be thoughtful and should never come across as spammy.

Actions & Next Steps

Conduct an audit of our messaging strategy.

Address the issue of notifications getting too noisy; throttle, collapse or mute notifications where necessary.

Identify opportunities for personalization within our email messages.

Test what the right daily push notification limit is.

Send emails when a user has push notifications switched off.

Principle 6: Performance, stability and quality.

The stability and performance of our mobile apps have declined. There is a large backlog of production issues, with more bugs created than resolved over the last 300 days. If this continues, roughly one new unresolved production issue will be created every two days. Apps and backend systems that work well and don't crash are the foundation of a great Tumblr experience. Improving performance, stability, and quality will help us achieve sustainable operations for Tumblr.

Improve performance and stability: deliver crash-free, responsive, and fast-loading apps on Android, iOS, and web.

Improve quality: deliver the highest quality Tumblr experience to our users.

Move faster: provide APIs and services to unblock core product initiatives and launch new features coming out of Labs.

2. Describe their tent set-up (outside and inside) (Peri)

I think Peri's tent is constructed similarly to Gale and Astarion's (boxy, fabric walls, little covered area outside). Deep blue fabric w/ golden astronomical embroidery, mostly the sort of thing you see on star maps. Little golden tassles around the edges of the tarp (?) and the doorframe. He'd have a small, circular, dark wood side table short enough that you can use it sitting on the ground, and a dark blue pillow next to it; there would be some parchment and a bronze miniature astrolabe on the table. The inside would be just. full to the brim with the gaudiest night-sky-themed pillows you've ever seen. No bedroll, no palette, just a nest that would put those cube pits in trampoline parks to shame. There would be two bird perches for his familiar Medani: one taller one next to his tent and one shorter one under the overhang. The shorter one would have a crow-sized bow-tie hanging from it. Rugs on rugs on the outside area ofc. 3. What would their character quest be titled? Why? (Peri)

This is a hard one! His tav ending involves taking over the Waterdeep arm of the Harpers, so I think his arc would have something to do with that. He'd be pretty bitter about being dropped into another near-apocalyptic mess when dealing with the last one a few years prior was supposed to be a one-time thing. Something-something ptsd in a world that doesn't have the words for that yet, something-something 'once a hero always a hero', something-something the weight of responsibility...he's a planeswalker so I think part of it would be whether he decides to stay on Toril long-term and directly help rebuild the Waterdeep Harpers or if he continues to run travel around afterwards, so maybe The Far Traveller/The Far Walker?

Harpson/Fae-son are also potential options. "Fae-son" nods to him being a changeling without it being super obvious (like Astarion's "The Pale Elf"). It would also mimic his backstory reveals from RoT ("oh he's not 'from here' so, like, the Feywild" -> "OH he's not from here"). 7. Describe their arc. How would a player help resolve it? What choices can be made? Can your Tav be turned down a dark path, or pulled to a lighter one? (Diodore)

Buckle up because we're in for a long one here. I've thought about Dora's story arc a lot because she's the first of my tavs that I truly made for the game while having full control over her backstory, etc. (versus Corentin, who had their arc baked into the story as a durge). Dora's a paladin of Corellon (oath of ancients) and her story arc as a companion would have to do with whether or not she should accept capital-r-Redemption, the process by which a drow can be truly "freed" from Lolth and rejoin the ranks of the rest of elven society. It involves all of the Redeemed drow's memories being erased and them being reincarnated as a surface elf. The implication seems to be that without that, regardless of a drow's actions, they'd be thrown back to Lolth when they die? Or at least that their eternal fate is unknown (which is the way I prefer to think of it for. personal reasons). Under normal circumstances, Dora would be a long way from Redemption being presented to her at all (she's not even 200 yet and has only been on the surface for a couple decades), but like with the other gods' Chosen among the companions, near-apocalyptic circumstances tend to speed up those sorts of things.

Of course, you'd have the themes of faith & relationship with deity when they're all unequivocally real and are also mostly all assholes; maintaining or breaking generational cycles; facing the unknown; morality when none of your choices are "good" (and how that interacts with morality vs self preservation); power vs freedom; identity outside of the people who made you; etc. The choice would first be presented to her sometime in late Act I/early Act II, likely the first long rest after the group resurfaces from the Underdark and you've probably gotten some of her backstory already. I have no idea how Larian would have characterized Corellon, but he's considered one of the more benevolent/open-minded deities iirc, which could be interesting to see contrasted with Mystra, Vlaa'kith, and Shar. How much that open-mindedness would extend to a drow, even one who has been a faithful follower even before she escaped to the Surface (and who inherited that faith from her father), is unclear. At the beginning of the game she would be leaning towards accepting Redemption, despite her own misgivings about whether or not she would still be her in that case.

Her final decision (at the ending pier scene) would depend on the relationship she has with the PC and the other companions. Her best ending, imo, would be her not accepting Redemption but continuing to be a force for good. If she has a good relationship with the PC, she would have something to lose. I think seeing the House of Mourning would affect her too. After all, the thing Corellon is offering to her as a way to find peace is the same thing the Sharrans are using as a way to manipulate and control others.

She's viscerally aware of how she was socialized and very actively chooses "good", so pushing her towards a darker path would be incredibly difficult but not impossible. If you side with the goblins she'll leave immediately, and turn on you if she's in your party when you attack the grove. But if you decide to try and control the cult in Act II, depending on your over-all actions before then and how you've interacted with her, you could disillusion her to the point of convincing her to break her oath. That path would entail convincing her that controlling the cult is actually the best idea. I'm sure there would be other times that her oath could break that wouldn't necessarily lock her into an "evil" path, especially with how Oathbreakers are handled in the game. Knocking out Minthara instead of killing her outright and letting Auntie Ethel go in Act I instead of killing her are two things that come to mind.

If she doesn't choose Redemption she would be at the epilogue party, of course. I'm a bit undecided on what would happen if she does choose Redemption. She may not be there at all, w/ Jaheira, Halsin, Minthara, and/or Astarion mentioning running into her in her new, reincarnated state. Or she would be there, confused, and mention how the PC seems familiar in a way she can't quite place. In that case, she would ask them how they know each other and mention something about feeling a twinge of grief looking at everyone, but that she doesn't know why she feels that way. It would be up to the PC how much they tell her (if they tell her anything at all).

#ty for the ask mossy!!#and sorry for the wait lol a couple of these stumped me for a minute #thinking about peri & jaheira as narrative parallels...#b/c i want to be clear here. peri was and is *not* looking for more responsibility re: harpers #he was perfectly happy doing security systems. him not seeking power was an active character choice i made for him b/c he's a wizard #but in the Faerun In My Head (tm) the Waterdeep Harpers also get decimated by the Absolute b/c why would they not? theyd be a major threat #especially b/c their high harper was the catalyst for forming the lord's alliance and. like. you think they're *not* reconvening?#for Weird Cult Two: 2 Cult 2 Furious??#gortash would take remallia OUT if at all possible #and also I like torturing my characters #and i think the whole 'weight of duty'/hero's curse (once you get drawn into one situation you can't ignore the others/they come to you)#thing is interesting for peri in particular. the man just wants to live a quiet life and he will! for the most part.#just now with thousands of lives in his hands b/c he's helped stop 2 apocalypses and is irrevocably tied to the fate of the Coast now #his conscious wouldn't let him just leave the Harpers or Waterdeep to rot. and that seems to be similar to the situation jaheira's in #generational cycles the cruel march of time history repeats itself etc etc #that's also why i think he would get Weave'd and have an unusually long lifespan. he wanted to rest and the universe said “no <3”#i think about dora's story a lot also because the whole 'you can be redeemed (from something you were born with)#but only by removing integral parts of yourself' thing hits *right* in the religious trauma #you cant tell me there wouldn't be *some* part of a Redeemed Drow's soul that remembers the people from before they were changed #unless they just. get a new soul in which case it literally isn't them anymore.#doras first real & healthy relationships happen in-game #thats part of why she's drawn to astarion. his bullshit is predictable to her and therefore feels safer.#definitely safer than whatever is going on with the others #(also why she trusts karlach so quickly: she's straightforward and blunt & doesn't really hide things?#and was also the only one to warn her against astarion. dora'd literally never had someone like that in her life before so it stuck)#and she'd feel a bit uncomfortable w/ the concept of Redemption at first but who is she to argue with a god?#esp one who seems kinder than many of the others #but as the story progresses she realizes that she *can* trust these people and that they trust her #and she sees how Gale and Shadowheart and Lae'zel are struggling w/ their deities #and not only does she have something to lose now but she's seeing more of how the gods work generally

Archive.ph - Paywall bypass. Like 12ft below but appears to work far better and across more sites in my testing. I'd recommend trying this one first as I had more success with it.

Project Gutenberg – Always ends up on these type of lists and for very good reason. All works that are copyright free in one place.

Ninite – New PC? Install all of your programs in one go with no bloat or unnecessary crap.

PatchMyPC - Alternative to ninite with over 300 app options to keep upto date. Free for home users.

Just Beam It - Peer to peer file transfer. Drop the file in on one end, click create link and send to whoever. Leave your pc on that page while they download. Because of how it works there are no file limits. It's genuinely amazing. Best file transfer system I have ever used.

Atlas Obscura – Travelling to a new place? Find out the hidden treasures you should go to with Atlas Obscura.

ID Ransomware – Ever get ransomware on your computer? Use this to see if the virus infecting your pc has been cracked yet or not. Potentially saving you money. You can also sign up for email notifications if your particular problem hasn’t been cracked yet.
