*Rises from the depths gasping for air* You'll Have Me Rise chapter 14 is here!!!

I'd like to say this took so long because I was honing it to perfection, but tbh the same kinda shit that caused the last mini hiatus just keeps happening and at this point I don't wanna jinx anything by saying this is the last of it. That said, this chapter is long as hell, and I did genuinely put a lot of work into it. This is finally a huge bulk of the plot reveal, and I hope you all enjoy!

-Fffff where do I even begin with this? First off thank you for reading the whole thing. I can't begin to explain how this whole concept entered my head, and tbh I'm not sure how much it will end up being addressed within this story. But, if I keep at it, this means there's gonna be a sequel with undercover spy work and guerilla warfare and the works, so, fingers crossed there.

-Anyway, the opening lyrics are meant to be kind of an emotional reversal from the first chapter, because I'm seeing this as kind of a turning point in Jamil's feelings and perception of the octatrio. In chapter 1, Jamil is feeling like he's worth more than he's being given, that he's better than the people controlling him deserve. He's resenting and resisting the people around him and fighting for a sense of independence, of control over his own life. Now in these last two chapters, he's surrendering to a feeling of helplessness, he's been beaten down by recent events and falling back on the belief that he can only gain anything by being used. He's realizing that he's actually started valuing certain people, and perceiving himself as not worth enough for it to be reciprocated. Basically, Jamil is starting to give in to the prospect of being controlled by the only people he actually likes, because he's lost sight of any better alternative.

-That said, obviously his sense of pride isn't letting him give up the fight quite that easily. Jamil may get convinced to look down on himself at times, but that doesn't mean he thinks the rest of them are any better.

-I don't care about the canon dorm images. I have an idea in my head and I'm sticking with it.

-Fun fact, as a barista: If you tell us "surprise me" (unless we really like you), you're getting whatever's easiest at the moment/using up leftover ingredients laced with spite. Unless you seem chill enough to experiment on and the manager isn't there, then you're getting whatever weird flavor combo the staff has been curious about but not willing to try themselves. At least give a general range of flavor preference, or ask what we think is good. All that said, this is more proof Azul really likes Jamil.

-Mansplaining as a narrative device for exposition? In my fic? It's more likely than you think… (for real though, you can't have a story about villains without at least one monologue)

-So, moray eels shed and regrow teeth, which means I'm deciding that the tweels do too, which supplies some of the parts they're selling. So yeah I'm picturing Azul acting like the world's most awful tooth fairy and coming to collect whenever his boyfriends lose one

-Very minor but I imagine Azul is absurdly pleased with himself for coming up with a terrestrial plant metaphor to explain things to his terrestrial crush

-A while ago (when I thought the chapter would be written soon) I did a short poll asking folks on tumblr to vote on who got fridged for Azul's backstory, and his stepdad was eliminated …sorry Orfeo… (I'm gonna go into how I picked the name after a chapter where we learn more about him)

-TBH I feel like half of this lore was made up on the spot. I'm not sure if I'm sorry or proud of myself, but at least it's written down. It didn't hit me until I was done writing it out that environmental exploitation and human trafficking have always been such major topics growing up that they've really become go-to narrative conflicts in my writing

-I can't resist the concept of sirens having an inherent magical allure. I imagine it helps Azul with convincing clients and victims to agree to his inadvisable deals, and acts up more subconsciously when he actually wants to attract someone (like Jamil during class and in this chapter)

-I actually really enjoyed trying to depict Azul's feelings and motives from the POV of Jamil completely misinterpreting just about every cue

-A moment of silence for Jamil and what he thinks is normal. The idea that Azul might be upset for him has never crossed his mind (Azul: What's that? People try to poison you? Often??? I'm going to need a drink. / Azul: Oh so you… don't… get choices… in your line of work? You just referred to yourself as someone's resource? More wine it is. / Jamil: …is he mad at me?)

-On that same note, another moment of silence for when first crush anxiety meets massive paranoia. And the inevitable drastic misunderstandings when one party is accustomed to always being used and the other is notorious for always using people. Our boys are Going Through It

-Jamil can't tell the difference between a broken heart and indigestion tbh, and Azul's pretty sure he's poured his heart out on the floor enough times that he can't figure out what could possibly be left to misinterpret

-Aaaand have another round of Disney References Slipped Into Serious Scenes For A Laugh. It's like an easter egg hunt of me sabotaging the mood of my own story! (I'm still waiting on someone to catch the shitty aladdin sequel ref thrown into one of my otherwise favorite scenes from several chapters back). All that said, I'm actually kinda pleased with this one, since the theme songs can merge like that

Well, if you want more info on the more lore-heavy oc's (Terios and Doleon) to get somewhat of an idea, they each have tags! They're :

Has a bunch of stuff there on them. I'd link you to the Terios lore post from some time ago but some of the stuff on there is really incomplete/some parts are inaccurate due to that now. I'd be happy to tell you about my silly little oc's though! (And maybe a refresher in case anyone needs it)

I'm warning you. This WILL be long 😅 Mainly because of Terios. It's all part of an alt canon of mine (Oc Universe au) and I have a lot of oc's. GRAB SNACKS.

DOLEON

Starting with him, because he plays a HUGE part in Terios' lore and story

Essentially, he's the Black Doom of this au. (Fun fact : he was created because I had no idea how to draw actual Black Doom, nor had the energy to learn, so I made him a hedgehog/alien thing. Then I got to thinking and now he has his own separate lore jhsdbfbkjdb. It's a bit complicated.)

This explains everything pretty well I think. Still check out the tag itself if you'd like more info! (You should probably know for later, this guy right here is the definition of "I ALWAYS COME BACK >:D")

Personality wise, he's very egotistical, has a burning hatred for humans and humanity, and is always seeking power. He tends to see himself as much more intelligent and overall better than others (even though some *cough cough Starline cough* perceive him as dumb due to not knowing much about Earth or how things work on this planet.) While sometimes impulsive, he also really knows how to put up a good battle strategy wise. As of now, he (along with Shadow, Eclipse and Terios,) are the only remaining Black Arms left. (ALSO AS OF NOW : he met Starline, WHO IS TOTALLY ALIVE AFTER ISSUE 50, and they decided to form a partnership for each others own secret benefits, planning to stab one another in the back afterwards. They never do 😭 They're just really gay 😭)

TERIOS

(Cw for child abuse)

2000+ years after the Doleon shards incident, Terios is the accidental twin to Shadow, the initial project being rather mysteriously cloned. The only real explanation found had something to do with energy. This "clone" looked a bit off, with features that pointed to the idea that it seemed to hold more Black Arms DNA (ex. long pointed tail, all sharp teeth, green blooded, clawed fingers.)

But Doleon takes notice to that little mistake in the process. He can use that to his advantage. A pact is rather forcibly made, once the now two projects are finished, Doleon is entitled to one of them to use for his own purposes. He's part of the reason they even exist. He can make things happen if he doesn't get his way. (Geraldoom divorce arc /j)

He takes the black and white-striped one (who doesn't seem to want to be away from its twin it only JUST met, annoyingly.) It seems to be the exact opposite of it's twin, who is loud and confident. It (he can't keep calling this thing an it, for Supreme's sake...his name is Terios now) should be easier for what he has planned.

So while Shadow grew on the ARK, Terios grew on the Black Comet. And uh..............it was rough. He's essentially a victim of child abuse and a hell of a lot of manipulation. Brainwashed for years.

Doleon has Terios for his future plans now, but the downside on his end is that he now actually has to "care" for this small child until he’s old enough to begin his training.

But uh. Well...

Here's something from his lore tag regarding...a certain huge part of his lore

Terios (and Shadow) grew rather quickly (in terms of appearance.) Doleon took that as a sign of "he's old enough" and the brutal and quite frankly traumatizing training began. He would be the BEST, and this was the way to make sure of that. He could never mess up, never make a mistake, he had to be perfect. And he made sure Terios knew that too. Every mistake he made would get him clawed at. The more severe the mistake, more likely the deeper the gash. (Learn how to heal yourself with that energy...or don't, and suffer. Sometimes, if his mistake was so bad, he wouldn't even be allowed to heal with the energy.) It was always on one of his arms or on his face. More often would he get shouted at, grabbed and tossed to the ground like some kind of rag doll. The lesson he eventually had to learn?

Don't ever mess up. On anything. Expect pain and suffering otherwise.

There's also this one other little habit he was eased into...

He doesn't hate his father for these things though. He still cares deeply for him and doesn't ever wish to disappoint him, as he's been doing. Father's doing this for a good reason...! Terios would soon be passed the honor of the power the Shards of Chaos hold, he needed a lot of training and discipline to be able to handle that...!

And that's what he told himself. Every. Time.

This goes on for a few years, and he's gotten much better with his training (he pretty much had to, the injuries weren't healing fast enough.) He rarely speaks unless told to, he's terribly obedient, he's tired, he's hurting, but it doesn't matter. He's what he's supposed to be! He's finally near perfection! (Except for these weird sparks and bursts of shard energy he gets whenever he feels sad...or angry...maybe he could just drown that out?)

Then things get crazy bc Tikal is here now. LET ME EXPLAIN PLEASE-(I first made Terios' story when I was like, ten years old? XD He's a revived oc)

Short summary : In this AU, Tikal is more like a free-ranging spirit. Tikal knew Doleon and his brothers, way back then. She was a ghost and could somehow get through the strange barrier of this little area the brothers were confined to, so they became friends! Tikal, Kieran and Doleon specifically. She wasn't around for when the others were killed, but the last person she saw was Kieran once the barrier was no longer there. That wasn't the only thing that was broken.

Since she already knew Doleon and what he had done in the past, she knew he had no good intentions. While he was away from Terios, she appeared before the Darkhog, alerting and telling him of what the shards really were, and what they could do to a person. And Terios, of course, started to panic. Was he being corrupted right now? Was he ALREADY corrupted? He needed to escape. But how? There was no escape.

Luckily for Terios, Tikal’s spirit was able to transport him back to where he was created, the ARK (not without Doleon putting up a fight of course.) Unluckily, however, at the time he was transported there, the whole ARK fiasco was going on, and Maria had already sent Shadow down to Earth and stuff. Now there were only G.U.N. soldiers, and they spotted him, calling him “Project Shard," for some reason (He had a separate file. There can't be TWO Project Shadow's) So he tries to run from them, but can’t, and they catch up to him. Soon enough, they lock him up in a facility, putting him into cryostasis.

Skip about...54 (???) years (4 years after SA2) and Terios is about to be released for nothing good. And guess what.

There's a one shot for one of the parts I randomly felt like writing out one day :D

This leads up to months of subtle brainwashing (aGAIN) and being brought back to his old mentalities until Terios just HATES that one hedgehog he's never met (gee doesn't that sound a bit like another irrelevant plotline of mine-) He's fully loyal to the Black Arms and to his kind only! Finding the Shards...for Doleon...that's his destiny. That's why he exists!

And so when they finally arrive to conquer earth (and find the remaining shards,) Terios is sent out to do his job. Except he meets people. Whoops.

The first person he ever met was Rouge, out on the streets of Westopolis. She just kind of...appeared? Upside down? Flying? Apparently, she'd seen him around. The things he could do...and she'd like his assistance in a little something. She was getting in his way, he could NOT be sidetracked by some bat.

He got sidetracked by some bat. The power of Rouge everybody. (But its okay because he didn't realize it. No panic attack here.) He still found one of the Shards afterwards! She led him to it, almost...surely a coincidence. Unless she was looking for them too? For some reason? WHY WAS SHE BEING NICE TO HIM ANYWAY??? WHAT TRICKERY WAS THIS??

...Not bad, though. If his tail would stop MOVING LIKE THAT FOR AT LEAST FIVE SECONDS, THOUGH, IT WOULD BE NICER.

Going back to Doleon with the shard, he should've expected somewhat of a lecture for socializing with allies of the enemy. AND OF COURSE, he got that. He's lucky he came back with the shard...he won't be punished.

After that, Ter, being sent out to the same place as a current horde of Black Arms soldiers, runs into Tails after going astray. Lecture down the drain, somewhat. What’s his name? Why is his tail so long? Can he use it in battle? Does he have any powers? He could ask questions all day if it weren’t for Terios starting to look overwhelmed by them (which gets an apology)

All the sudden, that horde of Black Arms start raiding the area Tails and Terios are in, so Tails, knowing this as current danger, grabs Terios by the hand and tells him he knows a safe, inside place.

A more simplified summary of events that come after all this because this is getting too long already sdbjbjkacvhjj

Terios says he has to go and this happens :

More shard hunting

Doleon is harder on Terios now that Shadow is out of the picture. He isn't STUPID, Terios, he KNOWS what you've been doing. You keep derailing. Making mistakes. You know exactly where that leads.

Terios is quite literally beaten some sense into and this is the result :

Terios soon realizes Doleon PROBABLY isn't actually trying to help him at all, and instead joines the heroes in an attempt to stop him. He's with them for a while, starts to get somewhat comfortable around them...enough so that his real self starts showing.

And it confuses most. So you mean to say, this weird looking alien hybrid thing that only first showed himself in an attempt to brutally murder Shadow, had an alliance with Doom and the Black Arms from the start, and showed nothing but pure loyalty to them, even to go so far as to declare his actions in their name for the better? He's actually just this...guy. That was really, really badly manipulated.

Look at the way he came in. Even if he wouldn't specify where all those injuries came from, he was obviously treated like garbage. Just something to be used and then thrown aside. But oddly enough, he felt safe around these people. They were supposed to be the enemy!! Just another lie. He could change!! He could be better. Not the kind of better Doleon expected him to be, the kind of better that really just felt like the right thing now.

But hoooooooooooo when Doleon finds out about this.

Terios goes back into the comet after a while of being gone, its noticeable and he's mentally beating himself up about being so stupid. It's part of the plan, though. He'll go in first, so that the others remain unnoticed. Doleon has known about everything. And, if this kid won't LISTEN, he'll just have to MAKE HIM. His mental barriers were always weak anyway...he was the one to really mold the Darkhog into that for convenience.

Um.................angst...............it naturally follows :

When the others see him walking back out again they're confused. What is he DOING?? This isn't part of what they planned at all!

Until Doleon makes himself known as well and says something like "I only took back what belongs to me! It was rightfully mine from the start..." or some other CLEARLY rage-inducing thing. It gets on Shadow's nerves specifically sooooooooo bad, the way Doleon is speaking of Terios. Doesn't matter what they do, though. Terios won't listen. He won't speak. Everything else is blocked out. He belongs here. It's where he's always belonged. He's safe now. This is all he needs. He's home again.

And if it's what the Master told him, wanted of him, he would do anything to prove his loyalty. Anything.

He's forced to fight them, and they're forced to find some kind of way to snap him out of it before he can hurt anyone. He seems to be specifically going after Shadow for the kill, though.

Once he DOES get snapped out of it, he feels IMMENSE guilt. He can see how he hurt some of them, even if it was only a little. And that hurts him

APPARENTLY DOLEON OVER HERE WAS JUST HAVING SOME FUN, BECAUSE ONLY AFTER THIS DOES HE BRING OUT THE SHARDS AND GAIN A NEW FORM ENTIRELY TO FINALLY ENACT HIS END GOAL. Luckily Shadow has the Chaos Emeralds >:D Terios, though? Still terrified, and even more so now. WHAT IS A SUPER FORM?!?!?! He might need some help...

So they have to defeat Doleon in their super forms but Terios is still very new to the concept of chaos energy and super forms and such (he's far more shard energy than chaos energy,) and there may or may not be a scene somewhat reminiscent of that one SA2 scene in my head except no one dies. HOORAY!

And after all that, Terios can finally learn to be himself with his new allies, which leads to his redemption arc!

This part of his story moreso revolves around Terios learning to break free from what had happened before, and learn to better himself with the help of others. He also needs to learn some decent self care (whether it be simple things like taking better care of his fur, or more complex things like learning to accept help with his current mental state.)

At first, he’s still a bit paranoid about everything that happened. He’s worried Doleon could somehow come back at any moment, that the Black Arms could return along with him, that he would be forcibly dragged back in again, even after his life had only just started getting better (oH the nightmare scenes.) Luckily for him, though, now he has people that can actually help with these fears, and he eventually does feel ready to try and move on. Then he feels comfortable enough to start meeting people, and interacts with more of the cast!

This is also the time where he meets Eclipse and the Dark Arms! Short summary : Terios wants to do a Steven Universe and help Eclipse the way all the others helped him. Terios just kinda randomly stumbled into him while he was out one day and got VERY much lost. Eclipse doesn't like him and his sappy “I can help you bc power of friendship!” attitude at first, but then he's able to sense Terios' connection to the hivemind. It feels a bit different than Shadow. So now he's pretty curious as to why and starts asking Terios questions. Eventually Eclipse kinda grows to like Terios, this hybrid is actually nice to him, for some reason. But then Shadow finds them. You can probably tell where that goes (It’s bad for a long while, but it eventually ends with Shadow, Eclipse and Terios all living together bc they're brothers, it’s my own little canon and I can do as I wish XD)

Some redemption arc stuff I've talked about :

Aaaaand a little something about the way he behaves, even now :

Theres one more relevant story arc for him after this, and thats the "Doom arc" I rarely talk about. So shortened version : Shards of Chaos need a new host, they literally POSSESS Terios to do so (since he already has an established connection to them,) Doleon ends up being revived by the energy anyway, due to corruption, Tikal comes back, Espio becomes a sort of mentor for Terios post-possession so he can learn how to manage his newfound unstableness, aaaaand...yeah XD Like I said, this part is more in my head than written. The possessed form is still able to be accessed, very rarely, since Ter can't control it in the slightest.

And so now he's....the way he is! He is him :D He's shy, lacking in confidence, somewhat naïve due to wanting to see the good in everyone, and rather pacifistic, a surprising trait for that of Black Arms descent. He's very sweet, but can be angered on rare occasions. And when that rare occasion happens : start running.

I also gave him a speech disorder, specifically trauma-induced stuttering. He doesn't like it since it makes him sound nervous all the time, but otherwise, he doesn't mind, barely ever notices anymore. I did a lot of research just to be able to portray it accurately (I hope)

I know this was long, but I really just wanted to be able to explain everything clearly. I have other oc's that are FAR less complex, which is most of the others, so if you want, that'll probably have to be like a part two post 😅 Hope you found my oc rambling at least somewhat interesting! (I also hope it isn't too confusing 😭)

Quiz Pharo considers himself to be a man of simple needs. His job though, is far from simple.

Since I'm back in the groove of posting fanfiction I figured I'd re-share this one shot I posted a while back. I wrote this for a Storm Hawks fic-writing workshop that my friend @grimm-the-6th (also @ashe-alter) started up a year ago. The goal was to write a short slice-of-life fic with a set word count about either a canon character from the show or an oc, so I picked my boi Quiz whom I made for the very first bird OC challenge back in 2021. He's come a long way since I first designed him for that challenge.

I had a lot of fun writing this. There's some sweet domesticity between Quiz and his vampire merb wife, Patricias, lore about the rulers of Terra Amazonia, and I created a member of the Buff Buzzards squadron to subject to Quiz's weirdly nice interrogation techniques.

I wrote this with the intention of getting feedback for it so I can improve my writing, so any pointers or critique is welcome. In the meantime, I hope this is a fun read for you.

Tales from Black Crusade... Kind Of

It's been a while since I've made any sort of post like this, be it Warhammer TTRPG related or other-TTRPG related. For those who are wondering or care, I am currently in 3 campaigns -- playing in a Pathfinder 2e Campaign, and DM'ing a Dragonlance game and a reboot of an old campaign that I've wrote about before here on Tumblr.

That campaign being Black Crusade, which fell apart almost a year ago now. But we tried a reboot, and some things are happening.

This will just be a mini-post about one snippet of last night's session, purely because the scene was just amazing and I'd like to try and share it with other humans.

However, before I can even do that, I'll briefly introduce the player characters, even though the scene in question only really involves two or three of them:

ZACHARIAH CAIN - Former World Eater, current diabolist attached to the 17th Host of Word Bearers. Has recently mutated a lot due to the destabilizing presence of a Slaaneshi daemon prince, and is on the verge of either ascending or becoming Chaos Spawn, neither outcome seeming very appetizing.

SOHN'IK ERINACEUS - An Emperor's Children raptor who is all about extreme speed and is generally always in a good mood. Happily will run into danger for fun. If you get the meaning behind his name, you get a cookie. Also as an aside, this character is unironically genuinely amazing, their player plays him SUPER well and he's a treat at the table. I'll discuss his exploits in a later post, potentially.

SOLOMON GRUNDY - Death Guard who was attached to the Lords of Silence and generally doesn't remember much about his life because he died and came back holding a seed from a Barbaran oak tree. Grundy also has befriended a tiny nurgling and is the fire support for the party.

Finally, and potentially controversially,

ARTORIAS - I would list out all of his names but there's too many. Artorias is a renegade Custodian who was lost out in the Warp for millennia, its exposure slowly breaking down the geneforging that locked his mind into being happy to be used as a tool and weapon of the Emperor. He was later found and convinced that his way was a way of slavery, and that he could find freedom elsewhere. He acts as a hidden guardian of Apostle Ans'ar of the 17th Host.

Artorias deserves a post all on his own. Some people may be rolling their eyes but bear with me, I promise his lore is not completely gary stu cringe. I allowed it because the campaign is being done in Wrath & Glory, and the party is at Tier 5, and there was some acceptable homebrew to make a Custodian. Trust, I am generally someone who likes to err on the side of canon and lore. Plus my player really wanted to make a renegade Custodes, and I didn't want to "no, but" him, and it's led to some really great storytelling and moments in the campaign.

BUT this tale is not about Artorias. This is about the current exploits of our new band of Misfits.

Zachariah sends out a call to try and get the ear of Kor Phaeron. Already this may sound insane but bear with me. The party has come up with a very long-winded plan that involves the creation and maintaining of several Warpstorms in and around the Eye of Terror. There's several other aspects including Titan Legions, Knight Houses, the Dark Mechanicum, at least three other Legions [not in their entirety, but a decent showing of force], and potentially the Blood Pact, but that would require maybe an additional 5,000 words to explain the context for.

The party is in pretty good standing with the Word Bearers, and they needed someone who was a very adept ritualist with a large reach to assist in this endeavor. So they shot for the stars and, with dice on their side, they got what they wanted.

One of my players happens to have a very good voice for Kor Phaeron, and he offered to take up the role for me. He's played the old bastard in the past for a campaign, so I agree to let him do it. I set the scene a bit so he can understand Kor Phaeron's current mindset, and he gets to work.

I basically tell him where we last had seen him at the end of Throne of Light, explain how he probably feels in the aftermath, and a couple of additional campaign-specific details.

I cannot express in words alone how this man nailed his character so pristinely.

Zachariah gets in contact with the Dark Cardinal himself, and invites him to this grand theatre of war that he, the 17th Host, and the small band of Misfits are putting together alongside allies within the Emperor's Children. Most of the plan he is relaying is the brainchild of Solmon Grundy and Sohn'ik Erinaceus, with some add-ons by Zachariah and Artorias. It's a very, very ambitious plan, and one that, if executed very well, can and will work. What he is not saying is how this is all connected to an insane idea that the Apostle currently has, because the Apostle knows it's an idea that could absolutely get him killed and the 17th disbanded.

Kor Phaeron takes a moment to think. He then asks why he -- and his Legion, in particular -- would really be interested in such an engagement. Surely this is something the III Legion can handle on their own. Why should they be meddling in this great conflict to come?

Zachariah says that there could be glory to be found in an alliance here, and that Kor Phaeron's own expertise is needed. The old man says that he cannot see how, and presses Zachariah on why this conflict matters so deeply to him. Again, this sounds like the business of another Legion, yet he's speaking with urgency and is trying desperately to sway him. Surely there must be something else here.

And then Zachariah makes what we in the industry call a "Gift of Gab moment".

Zachariah sells out the actual intentions of his Apostle.

And immediately my player who's playing Kor Phaeron starts doing his villain laugh.

"He said it in character, I do not want to do takes-backsies, let's roll with this."

I could feel everyone tensing at the table and I decide to have Ans'ar, the Apostle who just got sold for 62 cents, jump in and try to defend and explain himself.

Kor Phaeron then says, "You have from the time I walk from my personal chambers to the strategium deck to explain the reason for the 17th not deserving chastisement or reorganization."

They can hear the tread of his heavy boots upon the decking and the clicking of his claws as he speaks.

So he tries to sum up everything neatly and as swiftly as he can, with Zachariah occasionally butting in to offer some extra details. Out of character, the table is tense and everyone is saying "oh fucking no".

What is the plan that could get all of them absolutely wiped without a second thought? Well.

Ans'ar and several other Apostles have come up with a plan to force the primarch out of his seclusion using a massive ritual. They need the ritual to go off because they hope to empower Lorgar so that he can kill the burgeoning Star Child and also bring a measure of order to the Warp.

With such a daring plan, there are obviously many ways for this to go wrong, but if it goes right, it means Lorgar is out active in the galaxy again, and that could be bad news if you're depending on him not being out and about for the next while.

Kor Phaeron has heard a few murmurings and rumors about a number of Hosts who seemed to be conspiring about something, but the nature of it was mostly veiled or it seemed not to be of great interest. And now he is very, very interested.

Of course, involving Kor Phaeron would absolutely and inevitably mean that the cat would get out of the bag at some point, but this was absolutely not the time. This was just supposed to be a quick "will you help us?" and if he said no, proceed without him. This was a Hail Mary, a "hey, wouldn't it be hilarious if we could do this?" and I let them roll for it.

If he DID say yes, they tell him the plan when the pieces are already in place and the board is set. That way, even if he objects, there's not much he could do to stop it or interfere.

In this instance, the pieces have just been outlined, nowhere near to being put into place. Which now means that Kor Phaeron can now have free reign over the entire plan and twist it to his whims.

SOOOO now Kor Phaeron has a very vested interest in knowing all the ins and outs of this plan, when it is being conducted, and by whom. He expects all of these answers when he meets with Ans'ar in person. He tells the Apostle that he is, for now, "grounded", and is to remain in place until Kor Phaeron arrives.

And right before he cuts contact, as he enters the strategium and everyone hears the tensing of Terminators in greeting, he has a few final words for Ans'ar in quiet Colchisian:

"My son will not return by your hand."

The connection drops dead.

Plans begin changing fast. The nature of Artorias's very existence is a secret to all but those within the Host, and if Kor Phaeron finds out, then Ans'ar may be in bigger trouble than planning a massive primarch ganking ritual. However, at this point, Artorias is demanding to be at the Apostle's side as part of his honor guard once Kor Phaeron arrives. So is Zachariah, as one of his Masters of Possession, much to Zikar-Sin's protesting.

Grundy & Sohn'ik both have to depart in order to begin organizing their parts of the grand plan -- Sohn'ik to try and find and recruit the Riotous Host, Grundy to go find the Lords of Silence. Of course, other allies are also being contacted -- we're going to be having a small cameo next session of an Alpha Legionnaire from a past player who just couldn't schedule the game in -- but I'm very excited.

Now I get to plan out a LOT of potential networking, combat, and the arrival of the bastard himself. That's all going to be very fun.

Since his PC is going to be Away -- not a decision made so he could continue to guest NPC as Kor Phaeron, that was already decided on before Zachariah's PC decided to be like "hey, could I try Skype calling him?" -- Grundy's player will probably be playing him again with me handing him some rough bullet points and notes on what I want to have hit with him.

Very excited to see where this goes, we're only a few sessions away from the end. Will the party have a skill issue and die in this massive confrontation they planned? Maybe. Odds are they probably will. BUT I trust them not to. They can be very keen strategists.

I hope you enjoyed this tale, I'll try to post these on occasion if things of note happen. Expect one for Dragonlance to be posted soon as the party is about to confront Dragon Emperor Ariakas at Sanction.

Hii! I haven’t really been active here for some time sooo how are you? How have you been? :)

HIIII!!! honestly I haven't been very active here either, I just hop in every so often. I should go back to the time when this was my #1 social media cause that was a lot easier to digest than twitter LOL

(this ended up being longer than i thought so I added a read-more)

I've been okay generally, I feel like I'm in a bit of a transitory period in my life where I'm trying new things and attempting to get myself to chase dreams that feel very far away. I just recently got on my Summer break from school, so I'm grateful for that! I was planning on taking another summer course, but I dropped it last second because it's technically not a requirement

I posted a random scene that I've been wanting to post on AO3 because I wrote it a while ago, it's basically an AU where Nagito is a fem musician and the whole premise is that she's popular (and so is the rest of the DR cast and some others, like just generally a fame AU cause I dig the idea so much) but it hasn't gotten many interactions since it primarily involves a rare-pair. (I've been so into Taylor Swift's music and her rise to stardom, it's been a recent fixation for me so I completely blame that on that AU/snippet of a fic.)

I have SOOOO many fanfics sitting in my documents of this rare pair, like 99% of them have fem nagito, and it mainly stemmed as an "inside joke" between my partner and I but now it's like second language to us and it's this weird thing where this version of fem nagito feels more like an OC if anything, cause the more deviations you take from canon the more creative liberty you impose on them and all that. I always feel a little bit like I'm lying when I post that content, because I love writing canon Nagito and writing him as accurately as I can muster because I'd like to think I do a good job, but then I remind myself that fanfic is entirely optional and I may as well post things that feel completely unique to me and even "out of character" because what's the harm in it? most sensible people will just click off if they don't like it.

Like, I posted this fic titled "3 years different*" on AO3 which was ANOTHER rarepair AU fem-nagito thing (Like, a different AU to the musician AU one) which, again, stemmed between my partner and I and I didn't expect anyone to read it and enjoy it but I got a pretty nice comment on the second chapter that warmed my heart and made me feel like posting was slightly worth it.

and I just love the rare-pair and I love my version of fem nagito that has shifted and grown - and while it's SO much fun to kinda have a little fandom AU between my partner and i, it gets sooo lonely being the only 2 people who are a fan of this hyper specific fandom-amalgamation we created??? like I'm only touching on it lightly here but THE LORE we made runs ridiculously deep, I've considered what a video-essay on it would look like trying to cover EVERYTHING and it would be A MESSS but it's so fun

in my personal life I've just been filling my time with animal crossing, I don't know if you're anything like this but I swing between all of my previous fixations when I don't find a new one and I just ping-pong between getting really sucked into one thing to another. like, a few months ago I was OBSESSEDDD with the sims 2. before that I think it was stardew valley. Now I'm back on animal crossing. I finally have a Switch so I've been decorating my island from SCRATCH for the first time ever, it's fun but I also find myself running out of ideas so quickly so I end up running around my island aimlessly wondering what I should do. I love building on animal crossing with long-form youtube content in the back.

I also want to start doing fan edits again!! I used to be really into it in 2020 (I Wonder why with the state of the world then), but I'm trying really hard to dabble more because playing around in After Effects and making transitions is genuinely a lot of fun. I hope i get into it more consistently

I'm also looking forward to a concert that I'm going to with my partner soon! I've never been to a concert so it'll be my first! I'm excited to dress up and hopefully know the words to the band !!

Finished all the routes some time ago and haven't been able to stop replaying! There are some scenes in particular I've bookmarked that I enjoy coming back to (I will never not laugh at the training mishap in Magnus's route). The game is so good, and it absolutely deserves more recognition!

Just the sheer amount of lore and world building that went into this is mindblowing! You've obviously put a lot of care and attention to detail in this, and I can tell it was a product of passion and love. Normally I don't care much for scifi. It's a genre I like only in theory and not in practice, but Gilded Shadows just has that little something that makes it different. I can't really put a finger on it, but it's there and I'm all for it! I can genuinely say I Iove each and every one of these boys and their routes, and any one of them could be the "canon" love interest and I'd be happy (though I do prefer certain stories and endings over others).

I really appreciate you not changing/dropping Caleb despite ealier backlash. Hearing the journey you took with him, I can only applaud you for sticking with him till the end and letting us smooch this angry adorable man!!!

Anyways, I hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions, two of them (hopefully) fun scenarios:

How would Jack and Caiuss react to Magnus's "big reveal" and what he'd been through? What were the reactions of the people Magnus told?

What kind of grandfather would Keres be?

Say ROs and MC have a daughter. The daughter, in all her youthful naivety and with rose tinted glasses, starts dating an actual human dumpster fire. A hot human dumpster fire, but a human dumpster fire nontheless. How do they handle the situation, and how would they react if, in an argument about the daughter's beau, she cries "But daddy, I love him!"

Haha. That training mishap was fun to write. XD I always felt bad I ended up needing to tell it as a flashback to make the scene flow better - and no one was able to see the training room lighting go blood red as the alarm starts.

I encounter a lot of people who say they don't like science fiction - I'm also not really sure what it is that turns people off. I know hard SF tends to put a lot of focus on the science and technology, which I absolutely don't do. I like using a bit real science, then going completely off the rails with it. There's a lot of fantasy in my science fiction for sure. I guess I just also try to keep things familiar because I feel like society is a very slow moving beast. Despite that there have been a lot of changes in the last 500 years on earth…people are people. And a lot of things have actually not changed at all. I like writing science fiction that feels like a natural progression of things I guess - at least in the sense that society still has a lot of the same problems. Different situations and context, yes. But people make the same mistakes they've always made and often with the same outcomes.

I like SF that has that sort of familiarity and feels like "Yeah, that sound about like something humans would do." LoL

Now to your questions!

I don't think Jack would be surprised. He didn't stick around long enough to see the full fallout of what happened, but I imagine he does know something happened. And Jack is very aware that at least some of his anger is misplaced. I suppose knowing the full details might have him redirect more of his anger towards the council, but the only thing that would make him truly move past his anger at Magnus would be Magnus showing up at Cordis asking for their help to topple Endgame for good. Caissa, I imagine, has always been a bit more sympathetic to Magnus. He just doesn't like him much. Knowing why he is the way he is would make him like him…a little more, I suppose. Otherwise, Magnus didn't tell anyone what happened until he tells the Guard at the very end of his route. So their reactions are there. Angry, rib-cracking hugs and lots of tears. Caleb probably used hugs as on-going threat for a while. And if he didn't, Van definitely used Caleb-hugs as a threat.

Stupidly loving and stupidly protective. He would spoil any grandchildren so badly. LoL. He'd be a disturbingly docile teddy bear around his child and would probably take the approach of chopping the fingers off anyone who looked at them sideways as a way to deter anyone from considering harming them.

Ari - would ask her what she loves about him. Would literally have her make a presentation about what she enjoys about this dumpster fire and why they are worthy of her. What are his actual good qualities, how will these qualities lead to a long term and healthy relationship? How does he show respect for her? What kinds of things does he demand from her and are they fair, etc, etc. He would make her be so thorough she would hopefully come to the conclusion he's trash all on her own. Caissa - Let's be real. He'd play dirty and the dumpster fire wouldn't have a chance. Caleb - He'd handle it poorly. MC would have to sequester him from his offspring and handle the situation to keep the situation under control. Ari would have to babysit him to keep him from committing murder. Then he would try Ari's presentation approach - half because he thinks it might work and half for punishment. Jack - Wallow in self loathing and determine he should never have become a father. MC would have to handle the situation because Jack would be a huge baby about it. Caissa would have to babysit him to keep him from doing something stupid. Then they'd go do it together instead because Caissa is a terrible babysitter. Lance - Talk about it calmly and rationally. Similar approach to Ari but not an actual presentation. He'd just ask a lot of questions and point out all the logical fallacies. He'd also quietly sabotage the dumpster fire's…..*everything* to prevent this person from every coming around his daughter. Ever. ^_^ Magnus - *sweats* Quill - This might not be an issue for Quill. Neo Human children mature differently and NH parents are very…laissez-faire when it comes to child rearing. He'd assume his daughter would handle it on her own. Reuben - He'd be prepping for a full criminal background check before MC and Uncle Wynter stage an intervention and handle the situation themselves. Reuben would struggle a lot. A LOT to respect his daughter's agency (of course, if his daughter is still a minor, he'd intervene if he had to, MC or not). But he'd try to help her see reality without overstepping. Yuu - Would approach it honestly and logically. But if his daughter insisted, he would allow her to choose - under the agreement that he will step in if the relationship becomes abusive in any way or seems to be harmful to her in any way. He would want to respect her agency but not at the expense of her well-being.

1. How long have you been in this fandom?

🎀 I believe I joined the fandom since 2016, so about 6 years from now. Though, it wasn't until a year ago that I started diving deep into its lore. 🎀

2. Who's your fictional boyfriend/husband?

🎀 Assuming it's for DL, I'll have to say Kanato and Reiji. I know, it's a little weird, seeing as I've barely interacted with a Reiji DL blog but some of you may have seen my shenanigans with a Kanato DL blog ( @kanato--sakamaki ). 🎀

3. Why do you like them?

🎀 Now, these two aren't particularly my top fictional boyfriend/husband ( It's Kenma from Haikyuu HAHAHA ) so this may be a little short.

Starting off, I like Kanato mainly because he shares the same voice actor as Kenma; that being Kaji Yuki. Yes, he's a brat. Yes, he's a difficult vampire to deal with. But there's just something about him that's endearing. Maybe it's his childish personality. Maybe it's his whole boy lolita aesthetic that draws me in. Or maybe it's because it seems fun to tease with him. Yes, he's incredibly violent but I find that aspect of him to be fun. I know, Estelle is a little twisted when it comes to their fictional crushes. Though I know he may never change, I can't help but feel the need to take care of him too, you know? I want to spoil him a lot, all while poking fun at him.

As for Reiji, I have a liking for men that are prim and proper in all aspects. He may seem like a gentleman but I know deep down, he's a sadistic bastard. And I suppose, the whole evil gentleman vibes he gives off is what made me find him attractive. Besides that, I do relate to Reiji a lot in terms of his relationship with Shuu, but I can only dream to be as responsible and mature as Reiji when it comes to family. He's also not that horrible of a person. As stated on his wiki page : "Reiji is shown to become highly emotional when drunk.", "It's shown Reiji has a fear of ghosts (though doesn't openly admit to it).", and, "Reiji states he enjoys rollercoasters, finding them interesting and fun."

I find that so adorable and such a stark contrast to his usual strict personality. I'm not saying that he's good, but he isn't entirely all that bad. After all, these boys grew up from a bad environment, thus developing an unpleasant character as a result of their poor upbringing.

With all that said, I may like these two a lot but in real life? I would never consider dating either of them. 🎀

4. Have you made an acquaintance with anyone that ships themselves with the same character?

🎀 Not that I'm aware of, no. 🎀

5. How do you feel about it?

🎀 Nothing HAHAHA! I mean, if I do meet someone who likes them so much so they ship themselves with them, I don't particularly feel anything but excitement that I get to talk and/or fanboy over said character with them. 🎀

6. Do you feel any negativity towards them?

🎀 Again, no. 🎀

7. Do you like seeing their oc(s) interact with your man/woman?

🎀 Again, I don't particularly care. Although, I would jokingly act jealous and competitive but in the end, it's all good vibes. They aren't mine to own, after all. 🎀

8. Do you feel competitive against them?

🎀 Nope. Though, I act as if I am in a joking way. Just to bring humor in, you know? 🎀

9. Confident, or pessimistic?

🎀 A little bit of both. I don't really understand this one. 🎀

10. Would you like more people to get to know about your ship, or would you rather it being lowkey?

🎀 Either is good. I'd be happy if either happens. Though, deep down, I do hope that people are interested enough to know about my ships.

If any of you aren't aware. I have 6 main OCs and 3 of them have official ships : Rukas ( @ruki--mukami's Ruki × Lukas ), Irigiel ( @iricathel's Irina × Hagiel ), and Kin ( @bunny--love/Lin × Kai ).

It would be nice knowing that some people are interested in them enough to want to know about them more and hopefully follow their story. 🎀

🎀 Not really because I don't think anyone has ever done that to me. However, if that were to happen, it would piss me off and make me feel upset, but I'm willing to listen to their reason and properly talk it through. 🎀

15. How do you handle such a situation if it happens?

🎀 Refer to my answer on number 14. 🎀

16. Is your cp public or only between a particular circle of friends?

🎀 Public. Rukas gradually occured in public and so did Kin but Irigiel happened in private that I'm slowly trying to push into the public. 🎀

17. Do you lock a specific cp ship, whats the reason? (I dare you to tag them~!)

🎀 Not at all. I never really thought about it so I'm a little confused about locking certain couple pairing ships. 🎀

18. What kind of behaviors do you suppose is pretentious to you?

🎀 Yandere behavior and claiming ownership of a character or ship that isn't entirely yours. 🎀

19. What kind of comments do you dislike the most when it comes to cp feedbacks of your oc(s)?

🎀 None. I never received any. 🎀

20. Have you receive hates about your oc(s) before?

🎀 No, but I expected some sort of hatred to come by. Especially with how Lukas is, and how Kai has a brother complex. I anticipated, but none came. 🎀

21. Do you have a complete love story of your cp?

🎀 Depends. My OCs in their own canon world and story, don't really have any romantic pairing. Well, except for Zaliki and Asra where Asra harbors an unrequited love for Zaliki who claims to hate getting into a serious relationship again. However, with Lukas' situation, he was supposed to be shipped with Reiji but that side of his story has been completely scrapped as I've decided to focus on Lukas' relationship with his family, friends and himself.

Out of their own canon world, my OCs' ships ( Rukas, Irigiel, & Kin ), all have their own love story going on. Although the progress is slow and gradual, I hope to reach the point where they finally settle together as a married couple. 🎀

22. Do you allow joint of alternate universe with the canon version of your cp story?

🎀 Yes! Such as the case with @mcchild-alischer, Kai and Lin's future child. As well as Irina and Lukas being best friends despite being shipped to the same man, Ruki Mukami. Kin also occured within the Rukas universe. And I may be wrong but there are hints of @kauzebridgerton's Kauze being in the Rukas universe too, seeing as Kauze used to tease Ruki about Lukas a lot! HAHAHA! I always find that hilarious! 🎀

23. Are you okay with people shipping their oc(s) with yours?

🎀 Absolutely! Though keep in mind that I can't force my OCs to grow romantic feelings for someone they can't pair well with. Oh! and don't let their main ships stop you from shipping yours with mine! I'd be happy to talk about it too! 🎀

24. Ever gone through a bad experience in the fandom?

🎀 Not quite. None that I recall. 🎀

🎀 Disappointed — Not being able to reply as fast as I used to before, and leaving so many roleplays unfinished and undone. I've been so busy that I can't even find the right time to sit down and just reply to them all yet. And for that, I deeply apologize. I'm mostly disappointed with myself.

Excited — Creating headcanons and lore for my OCs. All of which will occur as soon as I receive my laptop to work with. 🎀

27. The scariest era that you have come across in the fandom?

28. The most wonderful thing you have come across in this fandom?

🎀 Meeting my everlasting group of friends and being able to call them my friends. If Jas had never inspired me to create Lukas and Kai to interact with her Ruki before, I would have never met such wonderful and talented people.

My name's Anna, I'm 20, bi and an Aries.

I'm 5'4" with very long dark brown hair down to my butt, my eyes are also dark brown. I've got tan skin. I don't personally think I'm that short, but my friends are all taller than me. I'd describe my style as a mix of 70s boho and 90s grunge with a bit of cottagecore thrown in there too.

I can be a bit shy and awkward at first, but I've gotten a little more confident over the years. I overthink a lot, sometimes my brain can't stop running in circles. That's why I'm not a very spontaneous person. I can get angry very fast (fire signs complicating my life) and I may not forget, but I certainly forgive. I'm smart and a quick learner. I'm also stubborn and don't cope well with being criticised by friends or family.

I've started to enjoy spending more time on my own and try to make the best of most situations. I guess I'm an optimistic realist.

I like staying in reading or watching films, and i love autumn. I'm studying textile design, so I like knitting, sewing, crafting and started making my own clothes a few years ago. Other than that I also draw a lot. I played a few instruments in my life, currently trying to teach myself how to play the ukulele, and I like singing. I'm interested in mythologies and lore.

He would be drawn to your shorter height. He's of average height so he feels bigger and more protective of you. He'd like to clutch your hand or hug you and love on you.

He would love to see and support your crafts as you support his own artistry! He'd see sketches and go "hmmmm" and give his ideas. Plus, you can just imagine teaching him to knit or spending a day crafting together! He would love and get to it like a duck with water!

PETILIL SUMI LORE! !! ! ! !! !

SORRY I NEVER HAD THE TIME TO WRITE IT ALL OUT CUZ ITS KINDA LONG.

this story dates alllllll the way back to almost a decade ago. I was around 9 or 10 when my sister and I got a copy of Pokemon Black for the DSi. As usual, she beat the main story and I spent countless hours enjoying the post game. One habit my sister has is avoinding NPCs and forgetting to talk to them. So I ended up coming across a little girl on route 3 wanted a Cottonee in exchange for her Petilil.

*context: Pokemon releases their games in pairs (most of the time). These games are essentially the exact same, with the only difference being a few aesthetic changes and some version exclusive Pokemon. In my case, my game (Pokemon Black) only has Cottonee, while Pokemon White only had Petilil. In order to complete the Pokedex, you have to trade with someone.

I was so happy to have met this NPC. It meant I could catch Petilil without trading with another real person (cuz i didn't know anyone with this game). I immediately made the trade and ended up with the cutest little guy ever.

But i wasnt just gonna accept having one. i wanted multiple!! so i dropped her off at the Daycare, since thats where you can get pokemon eggs. i waited a while, ended up with around 5 Petilil eggs, and figured that was enough.

I go to the front desk to take my pokemon out, and the old lady tells me that there's another egg waiting for me. i go outside, grab the egg from the old man, place it in the PC after rearranging my party in order to fit the egg, (i probably also got a bit distracted too) and go back inside to get my pokemon. but alas! there's another egg waiting for me!!

*context: you cannot remove a pokemon from the daycare if there is an egg waiting for you

this cycle of taking eggs, organizing them, and going back inside kept going for a little while. i think i left to go hatch a few eggs in between. but by the time i could finally remove petilil, i ended up with 14 eggs total. that was way to many!!!! i didn't want that much so i figured i'd just release a few.

i ended up releasing them all (by mistake)

i was devastated. i lost the only petilil i could get in this game. it was so heartbreaking, and tbh i still haven't forgiven myself....

Skip to the present day. I got a copy of Pokemon Legends Arceus for the Switch as a surprise birthday gift (my birthday was 4 days after the game was released!!!). I instantly fell in love with the open-world style of it. It was a lot of fun.

One day I got to the Crimson Mirelands and was just going around, doing my thing, exploring, etc. Then i saw something small moving nearby. I snuck around to see what it was.

It was Petilil

i flipped out so hard. i didn't know which pokemon were in this game, so it was not something i expected. i caught one immediately and added it to my team. But he needed a name. One that fit the memories of my childhood of having too many eggs. Right before playing this game, I beat The Great Ace Attorney, and I couldn't stop thinking about the last case. Then I remembered the alias of one of the witnesses: Eggert Benedict. It was supposed to be a pun off of the dish eggs benedict. since it was related to eggs, i thought it was the perfect name.

Benedict stayed on my team the entire playthrough. I refused to evolve him, regardless of how terrible it's stats and moves were. Because 1) Petilil holds so many memories, and 2) its so funny to watch a 1ft tall plant bulb fight the 10ft tall gods and win.

Actually curious (sorry if this has already been answered) what inspired you to make a succubus alastor?

Several things!

Reason number one: I am ace/aro! Alastor is the first ace character I latched onto as a character I could see a facet of myself in (while prior ace characters, who kinda disinterested me, just sorta made me go "oh that's neat I guess"), and because of that, I like playing around with his sexuality and exploring his psychology in different ways in different fanworks.

Sometimes that means "I'll write him as asexual/aromantic in exactly the same way as me." Sometimes it means "I'll write him as a sex-neutral ace having sex for the first time and being really bored by the whole thing bc that makes a lot more sense to me than all the 'naive virgin Alastor introduced to the wonders of sex' stories I see." Sometimes it means "I'll write him hypnotized to temporarily feel allo and focus on what's going on in his head as he slides in and out of hypnosis bc I think it would be interesting to feel allo for a day as long as I could turn it off."

And then sometimes it means going "My orientation affects not only my internal identity, but also my life goals and interests, how I approach my relationships with other people, and how I understand the culture around me. If I suddenly magically became allo, I'd feel like a fundamental part of my personality had been ripped off of me. So I'm going to inflict that on my favorite character."

I've seen a fair amount of Alastor shipping fanworks that attempt to make him demi-ace or demi-aro by, like, treating him like a Disney princess: he lives a pure, chaste existence untroubled by thoughts of romance (except perhaps for longing that he could experience it too) until his One True Love comes into the picture, at which point he naturally slides into very allo attraction for that one person, and the fact that that's the first person special enough to win his heart is treated as something romantic. And like, if people wanna do that, okay, that's their business, fandom is for wish fulfillment, I'm not gonna stomp on their fun. But it rings hollow to me. I've seen enough media that portrays the inability to love (sexually or romantically) as unnatural and a horror; I want to take a character for whom lovelessness is natural and portray forcing desire on him as the horror story.

There's a reason I wrote that he loses his asexuality* at the same time that he loses his humanity. I wanted to make them equivalent to each other.

(*although he hasn't technically lost his asexuality. Really, he still does meet the definition of ace—you may notice that he never expresses actual attraction to other characters, with the possible dubious exception of other versions of himself—but "ace cursed to feel incurable horny until he fucks" is far enough from where he started that he no longer sees himself as ace.)

Reason number two: I stumbled across some demonology lore somewhere idk when, over a year ago, saying that some texts on demonology claim that particularly impressive sinners might get promoted out of the general population of sinners to join the devils responsible for inflicting the punishments on sinners.

I've yet to track down the source of that particular nugget, although you can see evidence of it in Christian lore; for instance, King Minos of Greek mythology decides where souls go in Hades after death, and he's imported into Christian mythology with the same role in Dante's Inferno—which makes him a dead human who's been given judicial power and an important governing role in Hell.

Plus you've got Lilith—who usually I try not to dig too deep into, since there's like, basically no way to stick Lilith into Christian lore without it simply being straight up appropriation of a Jewish figure—but the fact remains that she HAS been put into Hazbin, and if they do ANY exploration of her backstory at all, the odds are better than not that they're going to stick with the "human who became a demon" backstory rather than making her an OC who just so happens to be named Lilith, which means her existence indicates there's a precedent within the Hazbin universe for former humans to be promoted out of their humanity.

I headcanon that one of Alastor's primary motivations is to become extremely powerful, but not as a way to control others; rather, as a way to free himself from anybody else's control. He's not unfettered as long as he's still an eternally convicted criminal stuck in a giant prison where an execution squad swoops in once a year to kill a random swath of the population. "Become a full demon and be freed from the sinners' imprisonment" would appeal to him, particularly since we know that the magical potential of humans caps out well below the potential of high-ranked demons.

Succubus seemed like a sensible position for where ex-humans would have to start out in Hell's hierarchy: it's low but not rock bottom on the social ladder, they physically resemble humans more than any other group of demons we've seen, and they're the only group of demons we've seen entrusted with jobs on Earth that involve socialization with humans. Myths about demons even claim they're reproductively compatible with humans (albeit via sometimes convoluted methods). So I decided that's where ex-humans have to start.

Reason number three: my asexuality manifests as "I don't wanna have sex, people don't attract me, even imagining myself in sexual scenarios grosses me out; but I dolike imagining imaginary people having imaginary sex." I wanted to manufacture a reason why it would be IC for Alastor to act OOC enough to have a lot of sex, but in a way that would still let me focus on plot development and characterization and angst because pure substanceless smut without an undercurrent of Character Study bores me after the first, like, two replies.

(And yet, for all that, thus far none of my actual kinks have made a full appearance on this blog. Unless you count the fact that Alastor's miserable. I'm pretty sure "giving my favorite characters a miserable time" counts as one of my kinks lmfao.)

hey what's the deal with empiresonas if you dont mind me asking? I'd like to maybe join the community in some capacity but I dont know how to do that

Empiresonas Discord Server was a server originally started as a place to discuss and develop ocs in the empires world. As it stands, it's become more of a general empires discord after just under two weeks.

It's a friendly place overall, though we do have over 100 members. And we do have some of the most cursed discussions I've ever seen. But there's also a lot of cool headcanons, aus, and worldbuilding ideas around and people pretty much always around to discuss them. We also have roleplay sections for roleplaying the empires ocs themselves.

We also have a rather incredible amount of server lore given we're nto even a week old. Scott Smajor joining for at least a day, everyone being forcibly turned cyan for Slut Smajor Saturday (originally as a way to give Scott the Scott Smajor role sneakily but now happens weekly), the "interesting mob vote" as it was called in one stream with Fwhip, Gem, and Sausage. We also have a fishfucker pride flag, our own (possibly still a work in progress) cards against humanity deck made by @zlixlriffs, and a thread thats been running nearly two weeks where most messages are just 'whorenoth'.

In summary, it's a fun and friendly place but can be chaotic and cursed as hell. We're also constantly on the watch for containment breaches in streams, at this point. If you'd like to join, I'll leave an invite link below:

Hello hermitblr, me and @coppertip-canary were discussing inhuman hermits and they had a really cool headcanon for Xisuma's powers.

Basically: Xisuma has a type of shapeshifting where he can mimic things, such as mobs while keeping his humanoid shape. This takes a lot of energy and isn't immediately reversible and it takes longer to revert with more drastic changes. He could also mimic another player, but then be stuck looking like them for who knows how long.

So I raised the idea: what if X pushed his powers a bit too far, further than he usually would, and became an actual axolotl. And we bounced ideas back and forth for a while.

And given he's working with Evil X, that raises the oppurtunity for the newest capitalist on the server to have to carry him around in a bucket, a bit like X does with Mini Me. Yeah he'd grumble a lot and claim he hates doing it, but given his recent interaction with a strider and the fact he cared enough to do part of a video when X was ill, he probably wouldn't mind too much.

Other fun things:

- X still has to do admin duties, but has to do it as an axolotl. Evil X has to hold him up to the admin panels because he lost his helmet when he became an axolotl. Tiny axolotl slapping buttons trying to get things to work while occasionally dipping back into a bucket.

- The joys of the other hermits finding out and carrying X's bucket around with them, despite his annoyed axolotl sounds. They have absolutely terrified him half to death several times, at least one of them managing to drop the bucket once.

- The hermits accidentally manage to switch X with another axolotl from their aquariums. They don't realise until much later, when X manages to undo the changes. Can't decide if a hermit coming home to doom guy desperately tapping the glass going 'please let me out' or <Xisuma drowned.> appearing in chat is the funniest way for the others to find out.

- They fed him tropical fish, and he never stopped eating it. He refuses to tell the others that, but they've all seen him sneakily munching on one in a corner. They all get him tropical fish as gifts occasionally. He says he doesn't eat them but if you ask him where the fish went he changes the subject.

I'm sorry for so many requests relating to Pomegranate, but I absolutely adore her and I love your OC Bloom!

When you linked the fic [which I'm sorry I had to skim for now since I've been busy with a lot of schoolwork, I can't wait to actually get a moment to read it in it's entirety] I made the connection of Cinnamon Cookie reminding Pome of Bloom [unless I'm wrong, if I am I'm so sorry--]

I'd love to know more about Pome and Bloom, Bloom in general, and how Cinnamon reminds Pome of Bloom as well as how that affects their interactions

Finally, you are correct that I made a connection between Cinnamon and Bloom!! And with that, onto the headcanons.

//Gonna put this under a read more cause this is getting long--

Bloom and Pomegranate’s friendship is born out of their distance from the other Cookies. Bloom tended to be a bit too aloof and didn’t take her priestess duties seriously enough, and Pomegranate took them too seriously.

It was also a great match cause, despite her carefree attitude, Bloom was one of the most powerful magic users alongside Pomegranate. Though Bloom didn’t make this fact obvious cause she didn’t use the full force of her powers... she didn’t want to hurt anyone or the plants she commanded... unless she had to.

Bloom had kinda come to accept Pomegranate doesn’t feel like she needs that many friends. She originally tried to get her to open up; however, social events clearly weren’t Pomegranate’s thing. And she valued her friend’s comfort!!

Outside of her relationship with Pomegranate. It wasn’t as if Bloom was disliked or anything!! People just kept their distance due to her being known for pissing off the elders with her antics. Her colleagues found her funny and nice to be around though. If you needed a smile on your face, Bloom was the Cookie to find!!

No one quite understood the Sacred Pomegranate Tree like Bloom did. She had a very close relationship to the tree... so much so that the spirit within it could potentially take hold of her spirit as long as the tree isn’t dead (this is purposely vague due to Kingdom maybe suggesting the tree itself isn’t actually dead. I wanna wait a bit on that). If the tree is dead, she’s gone forever.

The two of them had heard stories of DE long before the destruction of their home happened... the group of priestesses shared a common ingredient with her so it’d make sense there would be some sort of connection. Bloom never quite took the stories seriously, however. Considering them either a way to scare the younger priestesses into behaving or a story reserved for the past. And she had no time for the past when the present was right there!! So when DE came before both of them, Bloom didn’t quite put two and two together.

When she wasn’t practicing her magic or performing shrine maiden duties, Bloom rather enjoyed taking walks or hanging around with other Cookies. Having some idle chatter and generally trying to have fun. Or she’d go bug Pomegranate cause she knew her friend would practice all day and night if no one stopped her.

Redemption or not, the one lingering regret Pomegranate has is what went down between Bloom and her. She would never admit to feeling guilty while still on DE’s side, but she wishes that fate hadn’t been so cruel. None of the other minions know this, however-- she wouldn’t dare tell them.

As a minion her interactions with Cinnamon would be rather aggressive. He reminds her too much of that lingering regret she has, and she hates him for it. She takes it out on him. However, this also means he’s one of the few good guys able to get her to talk. Whether or not she’ll say anything useful, or just hurl obscenities, is a different story.

After her potential redemption, she would avoid Cinnamon at first. The initial guilt would be too much for her to even look him in the eyes. Like Bloom had done so long ago, however, Cinnamon would put in the effort to get close to her. He wants to be friends with his allies, after all. And it’d eventually work.

Blueberry Pie would probably be the only one she’d disclose this information to willingly... as the two grow to share their deepest secrets and regrets with one another. The other’s (including Cinnamon) would learn of this connection eventually, but Pomegranate will not go out of her way to tell them.

As for what makes Bloom and Cinnamon similar, it’s namely their philosophy on life and the carefree nature of their magic. Both of them very much live in the present and try to not take their magic too seriously. This leads to the kind of relationship Pomegranate not only enjoys... but needs.

of mice and artblock

So, midterms happened and I abandoned this blog for a while. But now I’m back, and I come bearing mice.

I’ve been really struggling with finding subjects I like to draw. I’m happy to work on skeleton studies until Judgment Day to better understand anatomy, but I know I need to balance “homework” art with “for fun” art, or else risk losing motivation for learning to draw -- and I’m so used to writing fiction at this point that no subject really appeals to me artistically unless it’s got 5,000+ words of story attached (or at least some narrative/character ideas, yanno -- something for my brain to pick at). The obvious solution is to draw concept art and characters from my written stories, but I feel really intimidated by that because I’m such a beginner artist that nothing I create now will do justice to the vision I have in my head.

I need art OCs and concepts – things that I will only draw art of, and have never written a story about. Stuff that doesn’t have to match a previously established, written story, and that I can change as I learn more and my skills improve.

I ended up drawing a bunch of mice.

This was initially just a whim. Human anatomy requires a lot of skill to pull off, especially faces and hands, but mice felt more beginner-friendly to me. Admittedly, I was going for a more cartoony style as opposed to photorealism, so if you’re looking at this from a realism perspective then these are pretty poor mice. However, I don’t feel ashamed of them, which I am taking as a good sign.

I kept drawing one mouse over and over. I ended up calling him Leo just because it was funny – “leo” refers to lions, but here Leo is just a little mouse. But of course, giving him a name (and a gender, incidentally) is the start of a story. Via a flight of fancy, I got it into my head that I wanted to do a painting of Leo trying to catch a big snowflake. I made some thumbnails of what I wanted the scene to look like, and then cut out a roughly 7 inch x 7 inch piece of watercolor paper from a big sheet that I had under my bed, sketched the scene in pencil, and then finished with watercolor pencils (and a white gel pen for the snowflakes). The process probably took 2.5 to 3 hours.

So, now the lore is that Leo is a mouse living in a little house in an old tree at the edge of the woods, and he wears a red scarf. I did not like this painting. It seemed over-saturated and the colors didn’t quite work the way I wanted them to. I ended up watching a tutorial on color theory, and decided to redo the painting using my newfound knowledge of color schemes. I used this color palette tool to get an idea of what kinds of colors would look good together, and settled on a complementary scheme with bluish green and brownish red.

And then, everything went wrong.

I tried to redo the painting, still working traditionally. I rushed the sketch because I was so eager to get right into working with color. This time, to avoid over-saturation, I used watercolors out of a pan rather than in pencil form. Mixing the colors in the lid of the pan took a really long time because I was so picky about shades, and because I continued rushing I didn’t allow the layers enough time to dry. Leo’s scarf (now green instead of red) bled into his russet fur, and the mailbox was the wrong shape, and I tried to erase a pencil line and created a dark blotch over an area that was supposed to be white with snow – and then I gave up.

I had downloaded Krita, a piece of digital drawing/painting software, a while ago, but hadn’t had any success using it because my desk isn’t big enough to accommodate both a laptop and my small tablet. Using my lap to hold the tablet was an exercise in frustration, and I knew so little about how digital art works that I just felt really overwhelmed and lost whenever I opened the program.

However, Krita (like most digital art software) has an undo button that I find very alluring, so I decided to try it again, now on a shiny new desk from Ikea that is actually big enough to support tablet and laptop together. I think just the space on the desk really made all the difference, but also I was determined to get this artwork of a mouse to a place where I felt satisfied with it.

I spent a solid 5 hours working on what ended up being a very simple colored drawing of a mouse catching a snowflake outside his little house. I barely blended anything at all, and there’s no light source that required me to shade anything – it’s just flat color. However, I really like these colors, and I think I did well (for an absolute beginner). I want to go back and add textures/shading to give an impression of depth, but I'm not sure how.

Leo – like all of my figures – feels really stiff, so I also want to work on gestures/studies of mice doing things. And, thanks to the popularity of mice as lab animals and pets, there are way more reference photos of mice than I expected! Most refs depict the house mouse, Mus musculus, but I did find the work of a wildlife photographer named Dean Mason who spent 15 years photographing harvest mice (micromys minutus).

Unfortunately, all of the prior artwork in this post I had drawn almost purely from imagination, and I think it shows. I studied two mice from photos in pencil, then erased the lines until they were barely visible and tried to do the fur texture in ink (with a dip pen, so there is some unevenness when the pen was extra inky).

Left is my first attempt doing the fur texture. I was more cautious with layering pen strokes, so you can see the lines of strokes fairly evenly. Right is my 2nd attempt, where I was bolder with the pen. I like these mice more than the one I created in the digital painting; these ones (especially the right) feel more Beatrix Potter-ish, which is a vibe I like.

Do I want to go back and fix the anatomy in my digital art of Leo? Yes. I also want to take another stab at doing this piece traditionally, but this time, I'd go monochrome and try to do everything in brown. However, part of me is exhausted from drawing ten million snowflakes and does not want to relive that experience with a gel pen -- I've already done it once with a tablet pen, and that was enough.

I have a hazy, far-off goal of creating a comic of Leo having adventures with another mousy friend, but that’s so far in the future that it’s not worth spending time considering right now. In the nearer future, however, Leo’s friend might become a reality – I know he’s an albino mouse (name TBD) who either escaped from a drug-testing facility (I loved The Secret of NIMH movie as a kid) or else is a pet who was dumped into the wild by a human owner who no longer wanted him. Leo is outgoing and adventurous, and this friend is shy and cautious.
