Suppose Predathos is a hunter, a true predator, and the gods are its natural prey. In that case, a few things may be happening behind the scenes.
In nature, predators lean towards targeting three kinds of prey: the old, the young, and the infirm. But who among the gods would fit any of these categories?
Well, for one, The Knowing Mistress. She's still in hiding, recovering from wounds received during the Calamity. And if her chosen physical form is anything to go by, she could very well be the eldest member of the pantheon.
But who is in charge of her protection? Who is hiding her from her enemies? Who has made it their duty to shield her from further harm?
The Dawnfather.
The Dawnfather, who's scrambling to consolidate as much power as possible. The Dawnfather, who's fighting tooth and nail and doing whatever is necessary to keep a foothold in Exandria.
Sure, he could be doing it for selfish reasons. But this is the god who saw Ioun sacrifice herself so that he could defeat Tharizdun. He has made her safety one of his top priorities. Pelor refused to entertain Deanna's question of whether the gods were worth defending - perhaps because it was not only an insult to him, but an insult to Ioun.
If Predathos is unleashed on them all? She will be the first to be led to the gallows.
And The Dawnfather will do anything to ensure her survival.

The arrogance of the Vanguard to also place holy symbols on those pikes elicited more of a feeling than it likely should have

Actually the funniest part of the entire James Somerton debacle is the response his cowriter Nick gave. For context, Hbomberguy talks a bit about Nick as a cowriter, and there is not any strong evidence implicating Nick of also plagiarizing, so Hbomberguy takes the angle of "Nick is probably not (also) responsible for the plagiarism".
Nick's response?
To claim he could not be part of the plagiarism, because he does not read. And does not do research...

SOURCE: I Fact-Checked The Worst Video Essayist On YouTube - YouTube, video essay by Todd in the Shadows.
The second screen cap is maybe a tongue-in-cheek joke... but bold choice when everyone's eyes are on you to respond to serious allegations. And this screencap doesn't include the other wishy-washy statements, pre-video, from Nick saying to the effect of "I write based on vibes. I come up with an idea and ruminate on it." For research videos. For educational videos about queer history and queer media culture.
Adds flavor to the Todd video, which goes through two-dozen examples of Somerton videos which just claim... provably factually incorrect bullshit.
This guy is a writer. An author. You could not waterboard "I don't read" out of me if I were aiming to launch a writing career.
Beating the plagiarism allegations by confidently asserting you suck too bad to ever get that far.

The Gods of Exandria and Meta Storytelling in The Legend of Vox Machina.
I honestly think there was a way they could've integrated dice rolls into the show.
I don't think it was ever needed, but honestly, I think it not only could've been a cheeky nod to the campaign, but it could also have been used as a pretty effective tool for world building.
Also, in a world where spell slots and rolling for death saves aren't things, it could satisfactorily explain some incredibly unlikely things happening.
With all this in mind, let's take a look at the Exandrian gods.
Spoilers for the end of Critical Role Campaign One. Here's your warning to turn back now.
The Change Bringer is, among other things, considered a goddess of luck. Now, I don't know about you....but I can't help but want to go a little meta with any god or goddess of luck in a ttrpg. In a game that is more or less ruled by the roll of the dice....for me, it's an irresistible temptation.
And something they could've done in TLOVM, something that I would've really loved to see, was use the gods of Exandria as a downplayed Greek chorus. To tell the story of Vox Machina, but also to world build. Unless the story gets a change up, (which is possible) we're not going to learn a lot about more than a few gods, and we're not going to get an incredibly in depth look at the world's history....but using the Prime Pantheon as story tellers could've ameliorated that problem as it stands at this point in the series, if only a bit.
For example, before the show came out, I really loved the idea of having a female narrator pop in every now and then to give the viewers context.
(And honestly, looking back on it now, considering how big Exandria is, how deep its lore has gotten, and how little time the show was going to have to develop the plot and characters let alone the world, I feel like that was something that really could've helped new fans and old alike understand what this adaptation of Exandria is like. Even without the meta stuff I'm about to get into.)
We don't really think about the narrator; she's just a voice that tells the story. She's not diegetic, she's just there in the background like any other narrator would be. Considered by the audience to be nothing more than a device to help tell the show's story. Cut to the endgame of Vox Machina's adventure, where they have to meet with the gods in order to secure the power to seal away The Whispered One. They meet with the Knowing Mistress.
And the Knowing Mistress has the voice of the narrator.
How hard would that slap? Of course she would be the narrator, she's the goddess of stories. Plus, we can have her give her blessing to Scanlan....who then takes over narrator duties from her for the rest of the show, because that's what her blessing is. Telling the stories of Exandria and its adventurers. This shows just how big a deal her blessing is on both an in-universe and meta level.
In a similar way, we could've had the Change Bringer rolling dice for VM.
Now, there's no way I'd advocate doing this for every dice roll in the campaign. That would be unnecessary, and get tedious real fast besides. However, saving that for some of the most important rolls in the campaign, or using them at just the right moment to cue up a joke? Yes. Very much yes.
We could even combine these two ladies' specialties: have the Knowing Mistress give the newbies context, making it clear that the only rule of the Change Bringer's dice game is that a 20 means an unmitigated success, and a one means an unmitigated failure. This could be used to drum up tension: for example, say we intercut Vex's being hit with the death energy from the crypt in the Sunken Tomb with the Change Bringer rolling a nat one. The audience would already be able to pick up on the fact that what's happening to Vex is bad before this, but that roll would just reinforce the dread before the result of the trap is confirmed.
~ Sigh ~
What could've been.

we, as a fandom, don't talk enough about the fact that hannibal is an absolute boss for sitting there prettily and letting the two people he's enthusiastically fucking have a catfight about getting railed by him at dinner in naka-choko. like, you go girl.
