One day Zerxus will be freed from his service to Asmodeus and The Everlight will hold out her hand and say "kindness is not to be punished, but we shall not let it blind us again"

I know that it’s because it would make for an unsatisfying story for Pike to just use her free weekly divine intervention to bring back Laudna since she’s a level 20 cleric. but I’d like to imagine she used it on something mundane and kind of lazy.  Like the bells hells asking her to bring back their friend whose soul is welded to Delilah briarwoods and Pike before coming to the castle used her divine intervention for Sarenrae to get something from the tall shelf for her because she was busy baking to get her step ladder. or for her to be like “Everlight, Percy’s calling me to the castle for some reason, can you summon like a spirit to make sure my cookies don’t burn.”

Okay, but imagine Vax becoming a paladin of The Everlight before The Chroma Conclave arrived.
After Whitestone, after being corrupted by Sylas (in Vax's eyes anyways), he seeks redemption under Pike's Goddess and Pike helps him as he starts his journey of recovery and self-discovery.
Then Vex dies and Vax does what Vax does best, he throws himself down on the proverbial sword and offers his own life in Vex's place.
The Raven Queen still wants to claim Vax as her new champion, I mean look at Vax he's a goddam cutiepie you can't blame RQ, but The Everlight already has some claim on him due to him being one of her followers now...
Just...
Deity Follower Custody Battle?
Does one mom get Vax one week and the other mom gets him the next week and so on?
Does he have mismatched wings? One with black feathers and one with white feathers?
Does Vax get to tell people he has 3 moms now????
I want that for him so much.
Like, I imagine he would have lots of conversations like this one;
"I suggest not stabbing me, my mothers would all be upset."
"Ha, gonna go cry to your Momma, Little Boy? Waaaa~"
"All three of them, actually. And since two are Gods and one is dead? I wouldn't recommend mocking me or them."
"Oh yeah? Whatever."
"Yeah, my birth mom was also a neighborhood mom before she died. You don't wanna piss her off."
"And what about the other two? Huh? Were they bakers and florists? Huh?"
"Oh no. My second Momma is The Goddess of Redemption and Justice! And my third Momma is The Goddess of Death!"
"Yeah right!-" *gets insta smoted by Sarenrae & RQ*
Like, I just think Vax should get all the love and support.
Just Sarenrae, RQ and Elaina cheering on their dumbass and overly self-sacrificing bisexual son.

Look, all I'm saying is Asmodeus made some really good points about Divine Colonialism. How much of the Prime Deities Myths are just "Histoy Being Written By The Victors."
Everyone sites how Asmodeus tricked Sarenrae into thinking he can be redeemed. But what does redemption mean when you consider 'The Betrayer' is trying to Right what he considers is an injustice done to himself and to others.
Does redemption not become "Shut up and fly right and Maybe we'll let you out of your hole."
I mean far be it from me to debate Theology about a D& D Setting, but if I'm going to do it somewhere it might as well be here.

For being godless, Zerxus shares such a strong belief of redemption with the Everlight, I'm wondering if there would be any possibility, with her religion having slowly been uncovered by the time of Vox Machina, for Zerxus to be pulled out of the Hells and redeemed by her.
I also have a lot of feelings over Asmodeus having such hatred for the Everlight and the one mortal paladin who called himself godless but believed with his whole being that all could be redeemed, much like the Everlight, that Asmodeus betrayed Zerxus and killed him repeatedly before taking hold of his soul, before eventually, in the Age of Calamity, nearly killed the Everlight and killed all of her followers.
Just, his hatred for everyone may always be alive, but his hatred for those who believe in redemption seems to burn a bit stronger than the hatred he directs at the rest, save for that he feels towards the Everlight and the Changebringer

Episode 8: A Silver Tongue
This is honestly one of my favorite episodes of the first season. We get plot development on two different storylines, and an amazing fight sequence to boot. Curtains coming up and the lights are going down! Let's watch the show.
The Good: the fight.
For the record, the Anders fight is almost unchanged from the stream. More suits of armor, more people getting charmed....that's basically the biggest difference.
And it turned out great! I have some nitpicks, but overall I was very happy with it. As I've said, if there's one thing titmouse knows how to do, it's fight scenes.
Stephen Root does an incredible job with Anders, especially since he's not given a huge amount of time. You just spend the whole fight itching for him to get his. When it finally comes it's immensely satisfying.
I was really hoping they'd keep the coup de grâce from the stream, and they did! But they added a cool as hell trick shot and made it even more brutal. Awful and glorious and gloriously deserved. (The flashes of Orthax's influence were the cherry on top.)
Keyleth and Cassandra.
I appreciated how they allowed Keyleth to heal Cassandra, but made it very different from how Pike does it. (We can talk about Vax helping her with that later.) The moment where the music swells and we're given the impression she failed.....is followed by another one of the best gags in the season. The mutual screaming felt like a joke right out of the Campaign.
The sky writing made me smile. I'm glad they included it, and also the fact that Exandria has two moons. This may be relevant a long way down the road.
Pike And The Everlight
I wanted to wait until now to get into Pike's dreams, because this is where everything from that plot thread comes together.
For context:
Pre-stream, Pike had a big traumatic moment. Because of this, she changed her domain (basically the theme of her Cleric abilities) to War. Later, on stream, Ashley had to leave for a while. To justify it in-universe, Matt made Pike's holy symbol crack, signaling that her connection to her faith was fraying. Upon seeing this, Pike decided to stay behind to help restore some newly discovered temples.
Pike's confrontation with the Everlight is honestly a pretty deft melding of both of these elements of stream!Pike's story. It establishes that while Pike is a Cleric, she's not your typical one. And she knows it. This makes her less confident than warranted, and that in turn triggers the self-inflicted damage to her connection to the Everlight.
As the Everlight, Tracie Thomas' smooth performance strikes the perfect balance between understanding and taking no shit. Contrary to what Pike believed, what she wanted wasn't that Pike adhere to a stringent set of behaviors. Only for her to simply be honest with herself.
About what she wants. About what she values. About the life she wants to live. And I find that to be a beautifully compassionate message about faith that Tracie delivers with an air of wisdom and certainty. And it's a beautifully affirming message for Pike; especially when her friends are about to really need her.
(the silly little nod to Blind Spot was a nice touch)
On top of all that, Pike's dreams were just really really cool looking. It goes without saying that the visuals were gorgeous. It felt like a realm where you could speak to the gods, and the shift when the Everlight made her entrance really made you feel her presence and power.
The little bit of foreshadowing here (where if you watch carefully, you can catch a peak of the Whispered One) was neat as well.
The Bad (or at least not great)
Mostly just nitpicks and script things. For instance, I would've changed a line from this:
Grog: You look like you need killing.
Anders: How would you like to kill your friends for me?
(the silver tongue and Grog's eyes flash)
Grog: Huh? At your command.
Vex: He wouldn't.
Anders and Grog: Kill Vox Machina.
To something like this:
Grog: You look you need killing.
Anders: Oh I agree that someone here certainly needs killing. But are you sure that it's me? Wouldn't you rather-
(the silver tongue and Grog's eyes flash)
Anders and Grog: Kill Vox Machina.
I'll also say that most of Anders' dialogue comes off as awkward and unnaturally on the nose. Even for a character like this.
And on the subject of that fight: it takes VM way too long to attack Anders after he loses his armored guards and charms Grog. You could've had Grog blocking their efforts like the armor did. Or their antagonist slinking out of sight for the time being. But as it is, it just looks like everybody's holding the idiot ball during that part of the fight.
One last nitpick: the bit with Scanlan, the zombies and VM at the end felt really forced to me. Just wasn't feeling it.
But other than that, a really great episode. Up there with the two part finale and episodes three and four for me.
Lights are coming up. On to the next show.

Thinking about the Dawnfather. A god of light, a god of harvest, a god of the sun itself. Good but not nice, kind but not soft. Life-giving but also scorching. Protective, warm, and kind, but also stern, harsh, and abrasive. His light can foster growth, can protect and guide, but it can also scorch and burn. The sun is warm and nurturing but don’t stare at it too long, child, it’ll blind you.
Was he always so hard? Did he always hide his face with the harsh light of the sun? Or was there a time when he smiled and laughed, let others see him as he truly was?
Thinking about the Schism. Was the Dawnfather close to the Betrayer Gods before they turned? He must have been, Asmodeus wouldn’t be so hung up on him if he wasn’t. Speaking of Asmodeus, he was once a being of light, like the Dawnfather and the Everlight are now. Were they closer than the others? When the Gods came to Exandria, did they come from the same place or were they scattered, a ragtag group of survivors fleeing from predators seeking to devour them? And if the latter is true, did these three beings of light come from the same place? Siblings, born from the same stuff, forever tied to one another?
If this was the case, then, what was their relationship before the Schism? Did they call each other “Brother” and “Sister”? Did they hold each other when they were scared, dry each other’s tears, laugh and joke and tease and fight and make up because they were siblings and they’d always be together, and they loved each other with every fiber of their being and they only had each other. When Predathos came, when it devoured two of their newfound siblings, did the Dawnfather hold them both and promise them that everything was going to be okay because he was their brother and he was going to protect them, all of them. The gods, mortals, the world itself, they would not be devoured, they would not be destroyed, because he was there and would fight until his very last breath to keep them safe.
Wondering then, was that the moment when Asmodeus truly grew to hate their creations? Seeing his brother and sister and siblings risk their lives just to protect some mewling mortal wretches when they could just leave it all behind and start somewhere new. Was that the moment when he realized that mortals had done something to them, changed them when they were not supposed to change. Why else would they risk being devoured by Predathos, why else would they suffer through war with the Primordials? Why else would they choose them over him!? Was this the moment when he decided to conspire with the Primordials and the other Betrayer Gods? To destroy this world and the mortals on it so they could finally leave. And they would leave, of course, because the Dawnfather was his brother and the Everlight was his sister and the Gods were a family, and at the end of the day, they would always be together, and once the corrupting influence of those mortals was gone, they would surely all see reason.
And when the Dawnfather discovered this betrayal, when all the Prime Deities did, he must have been furious. How could they!? His kin, his brother, who had always been by his side through everything, how could they turn around and destroy their creations, their children. And so he and the other Primes took up arms and fought against their own family to protect this world they had created, and their children who inhabited it. Those battles must have been brutal, bonds of comradery broken, kin clashing against kin, screaming curses as they tore each other apart.
During those final battles of the Schism, when the Dawnfather clashed against Asmodeus, did they scream at each other in rage? A twisted reflection of previous squabbles, different because this time it was real, this time there is no forgiveness, no making up. When the Dawnfather knocked Asmodeus down, crushed his throat under his foot and banished him to the Hells, was he yelling when he disowned him? Or was he quiet when he did it, his voice going into a low growl, deadly calm as he told him that he was not his brother anymore. And moments previously, when the Dawnfather could have easily killed him, did he look into Asmodeus’s eyes and see his brother? Scared and hurt by his hands, hands that once held him and swore to protect him. In that moment, did the Dawnfather realize he couldn’t kill him? Because that was his brother and despite everything, he still loved him, and hurting him brought him more grief and pain than he could ever imagine. So instead, he banished him, locked him and all the other Betrayers away because he and the other Primes couldn’t bring themselves to kill their family, but they also couldn’t let them free.
Was this when the Dawnfather obscured his face? Hardened his heart because otherwise he would break, and he cannot break, because the other gods need him to be strong, because Exandria needs him to be strong. And so he stayed strong, despite the grief, despite the guilt, despite the pain of heartbreak, of hurting the ones he loved to protect the ones he loved. And this hardening must have continued, running himself ragged during Calamity, beating back Tharizdun, protecting Ioun after she almost died, sheltering the Everlight after Asmodeus once again betrayed her, stabbed her in the back and left her broken and weak when all she wanted was to do was get her brother back, to save him from his own wrath. Failure after failure after failure to protect those he cared about, to protect his siblings and mortals and Exandria itself. The guilt of his failures must be overwhelming, and these are his failures: Predathos devoured his siblings under his watch, his siblings betrayed them under his watch, Calamity ravaged Exandria under his watch, and even now, the threat of Predathos has once again returned under his watch.
No wonder he is so harsh now, so controlling now: because every time he has failed in his vigilance the world has suffered for it. He can’t fail again; he can’t lose any more siblings. And so, he continues hardening his heart, continues fighting, because the sun must always rise again in the morning, no matter what.
