I drew this for Joan Appreciation Day! Many people have been impacted more significantly than I have by the content on the Thomas Sanders and Thomas Sanders and Friends channels and the people behind it; they variously affected these supporters’ mental health, relationships, and art. However, even as a person who notably values this content for its entertainment and education, it has certainly had a considerable positive influence on my life, and I owe this partly to Joan’s remarkable work as a writer, director, actor, lyricist and more. I am grateful for their insight, support, creativity and humor, and am excited for their future projects 😊

I started on August 28th and finished earlier today. Among the pieces I posted on this account, it was the most challenging to find a reference photo for this one, and I loosened my criteria as I searched, ultimately including an element I deliberately avoided for almost every other person I drew. It was new, but I succeeded; plus, it was interesting to learn how drawing a portrait in this size and medium is similar to and different from using paint or pastel for a larger piece, and from using this same medium to draw three people in less detail. As usual, excluding some parts, I like how this drawing turned out! Thank you to @caramelartgallery for repeatedly allowing me to use her materials, as some of the markers, a fineliner pen and the white pen that I used are hers, and for helping me to scan the completed drawing. It’s gone midnight so apologies if this makes no sense but I have a theory:

So we know that each new Dark Side we’ve seen has been an “anti” version of a light side:

Remus is anti-Roman

Janus is anti-Patton

Theories are floating round about Procrastination being the next side, who would (of course) be anti-Logan

Which leaves Virgil

A dark side turned light side without an antithesis.

Does this imply there’s an anti-Virgil

Maybe a former light side turned dark???

Thoughts on who/what this could be???

I’ve just noticed something while rewatching Accepting Anxiety

When the sides leave Virgil’s room and return to Thomas’ living room, they all appear like Virgil does instead of rising up.

In Moving On P2, after leaving Patton’s room everyone rises up when returning to Thomas’ living room, even Virgil.

Maybe I'm overthinking this tiny detail but I don’t think they actually choose how they appear..?

@thejoanglebook talking about their experience with discovering what it meant to be on the asexual spectrum...as an ace person myself was just so validating? Like, I’ve been fortunate to come into far more contact with ace positivity than ace negativity, but this is still tumblr and I’ve had my fair share of nonsense from the aphobes out there, not to mention most of my positive experiences with the ace community are all from tumblr as well. So to have this validation come from someone who I respect and admire both as a person and as an artist...who I have a name and a face and a voice to attach to the message instead of a username and icon...it was just really really special. And one more item on a ridiculously long list of why I appreciate Joan and everything that they do so so much.
