You know what's so funny? I recently got The Hawthorne Legacy from the library to reread it and now with the announcement of Games Untold, everybody's asking who the amnesiac playboy and the woman who should hate him is. I think this is your sign for all of you to grab The Hawthorne Legacy for a refresh of Toby and Hannah's backstory (and you know, also that hot tub scene in Ch. 47 while you're at it 👀-oop-I mean-). You're welcome.

im rereading the hawthorne legacy right now and there's this one scene that pretty much spoils who's endgame. when avery was at the nhl game for her team and had a panic attack during the fireworks, both brothers are there comforting her, but she immediately looks at jameson. she's clearly only listening and paying attention to him. she wants his comfort. he's the one who can make her feel better. it was so obvious she wanted jamie there more than gray that grayson ended up leaving.

Okay, so I reread the final gambit because @1989linasversion made a post saying how there were gonna be clues about the grandest game in that book, and I think one of the biggest clues so far is David Golding
Every single person who died in the Hawthorne fire has been covered and talked about in the final gambit except for David Golding. Toby’s family is the Hawthornes, (well technically the Laughlin’s but wtv) Kaylie Rooneys family is Avery’s, Collin anders wright is Graysons family, but so far David Golding was just mentioned, but never really looked into. And as you can see, whenever jlb doesn’t really talk about a person that’s mentioned in her books, they become a big part of her future books (like for example, Jamison’s dad wasn’t mentioned in the entire trilogy but in the brothers Hawthorne he was a big part of it)
Imagine David Golding is one of the contestants family, or maybe even phone girls, and maybe that’s why they’re playing in the game. Jlb did mention in the prologue thingy for the grandest game that some contestants were there for “their own reasons”, and that it might not just be about the money. I looked through the books, and these were some parts where david is mentioned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So all we really know about him so far is that david came from money and is similar to Toby in a way, so there’s really no way to tell if he was a good or bad person (considering the fact that tobys….. toby. and being similar to him really isnt a flex 😬) I know the clue said that there were hints in tig, but just to check I looked through the Hawthorne legacy too and found something else
Tumblr media
So davids family was constantly donating to Camden house, and david, Collin, and Toby all went there. Again, the way they talk about david being similar to Toby and the fact that he was one of the people partying with Collin and Toby makes me think that if jlb does shine some light on him in the grandest game, then he might turn out be not a very good person. Again, there really isn’t a lot of information on david so we don’t really know whether or not this is true.
Also can anybody pls lmk anything they found out about the final gambit that might be tied to the grandest game? (If you found any 🫶)

Rereading the inheritance Games and gdi
We were ROBBED of any Nash and Xander content 😭 especially in the OG trilogy
I'm glad they got more time in TBH, but I still feel salty that they didn't get as much of a role in the trilogy (especially in Hawthorne Legacy)

Nash's Letter
This series is for @pennyforyourthoughts345 (saw your post about the letters we never got to read) and was inspired to write fanfics about them!) Grayson's and Jameson's parts coming soon ✌️ PS, reread Chapter 87 of TIG if you want more context!
Nash watched as the lid of the box popped open. His eyes roved over the contents of the box. Five envelopes. Five names.
His eyes glazed. The last time he stood in Hawthorne House playing one of the old man's games, he'd been in his adolescent years. That was all before he made the decision to leave. To leave Hawthorne House. To leave the old man's legacy behind. To make his own stand.
He never cared for the money. Hell, he never even cared for any of the games. Nash knew that the him today knew better than the him that spent half of his life growing up in the house. They were all brought up to play. And when they played, they played to win.
But what was the point? Towards the end, he told himself that he would not let himself become a pawn in another one of the old man's games. And yet, here he stood. Back in Hawthorne House, caught up in the middle of another game.
Xander had asked for his presence in the tunnels not too long ago. Why did I come?
It was not that he missed playing his grandfather's games. No. It was more of a responsibility. If you need me, I'll be there. Just say the word.
A small smile escaped his lips. He thought back to the day he left, to the words he uttered to each of his brothers. At that time, he had already stopped caring about the old man's games and petty competitions. He was ready to be free. But deep down inside, Nash always knew that he would always care for his brothers, no matter what. Nothing could change that.
That was the reason he had come. Xander needed him. Avery needed him. In the short time since she arrived at Hawthorne House, Avery had become like a little sister to him. No, he didn't feel threatened by her presence like Grayson was. He felt the strange need to protect her from whatever plans the great Tobias Hawthorne had in store for her.
Nash knew that this probably wasn't the end to the game. That there was more. That Avery was probably just another pawn in the long game his grandfather liked to play. But he would worry about that later. What he should worry about was the envelope sitting in the box. His envelope with his name written in an elegant scrawl. His grandfather's handwriting.
Nash let Avery and his brothers take their envelopes first. Then, with uncanny synchronity, they opened their letters at the same time.
Nash,
Last game?
— T. T. H.
Nash swore under his breath. Even to the very end, even after his death, his grandfather had predicted that someday, he'd return to play for his own reasons. Somehow, he was sure that this wasn't the last game Tobias Hawthorne had up his sleeve, but it was the last words he would ever receive from him.
Last game? He repeated to himself.
Maybe not. He thought again, his gaze now moving to his brothers.
Note: I'm only using two words for all of their letters since in Avery's original letter, TTH only used two words and in Xander's letter, there were two words as well. Patterns are definitely a Tobias Hawthorne thing so two words for all the letters it is!

The Inheritance Games ranked. (And why)
The Hawthorne Legacy for me is the best one so far. I love how it was written. The plotline was enjoyable and easy to understand. Why I would put it first would be the character dynamics and growth in the book. Even though Avery was still in love triangle, I liked how she still had good scenes with both of the boys. WE had a decent amount of Nash and Xander which was nice. I have also reread it the most, so that is another factor as well.
The Brothers Hawthorne is next. Even though I didn't care for Jameson's plotline, I would still rank it as second best. I loved Grayson's plotline, and Gigi was amazing! We get the growth for Grayson I was hoping for. Though Nash and Xander weren't in it as much as I was hoping, I did enjoy the scenes they were in. JB has also opened some more mysteries for us to puzzle over, and I can't wait to see what is next!
The Inheritance Games comes in third. I did enjoy it. It was a little slow getting into it, but after chapter 13 I was hooked. I guess what I didn't really like was several things. I know why Avery had troubled getting along with everyone, but that was something I didn't like reading. In THL she is on good terms with almost everyone. Avery could be annoying. Jameson acted in ways that I did not care for at all! And the whole Emily plot was getting irritating.
The Final Gambit comes in last. There were good scenes, but most of it I did not enjoy. Eve could have been left out. I hated how Toby was dealt with. I wish Avery hadn't given the money away. Grayson was done dirty. And there wasn't enough Nash and Xander. I also didn't like the short story either. I know a lot of people think it was funny, but I do not. JB could have done better.

Hey guys! Here is another canon theory; Jameson and the fear of rejection. Now, we’re gonna ignore The Brothers Hawthorne for a bit but we’ll get to that soon. Right now, let me jog your memory back to TIG and THL. In the first book, we are introduced to the sensitive topic of the missing fathers, all of whom are of  mysterious natures and at that time, unknown to the brothers. Jamie clearly is touchy with this subject and refers to drinking as his typical go-to mind numbing but we are also introduced to his character’s avoidance tactics; deflect, pretend it doesn’t matter or hurt, use dark humor, drink, etc. Anything just to deny there are feelings at risk and this goes for several topics, hinting at the type of crises he’s going through.
However, it’s when we get to The Hawthorne Legacy that things get really interesting. When we find out that Grayson and Jameson went to Phoenix to meet with Sheffield, you can just feel how affected he sounded when he asks him, “You think we’re here for money?” I can literally hear the shock in his voice as I reread that scene. And then take the scene after that encounter, when Avery meets up with him for the first time at True North. How he recounts with anger that the man rejected his son so easily, disregarding him with no feeling, you see that Jameson’s reaction to the whole thing clues us into something. Now, maybe the thing we think of as the first conclusion through Avery’s perspective is the fact that there is vulnerability and he’s letting it hurt. However, I think it also points to something bigger, like a fear, the fear of rejection.
Whatever Jameson has been feeling and perceiving about his own father up to that moment, just so much as imagining that first meeting with him, this interaction that he witnessed between his brother and his father has sealed the deal for him. It’s not going to be good and maybe it’s best not knowing him. And to be fair, he had every right to think that because his father has also kept away. This is also the strongest piece of evidence so far but unfortunately we don’t see more of it until a lot later.
The Final Gambit doesn’t really infer anything; yes, we know that Jameson’s father was the only one left out of the main series mystery and set up the likelihood of his appearance in The Brothers Hawthorne but there isn’t anything that really goes back to the topic of Jameson and his absentee dad in the book is what I’m saying. Off page we can likely guess that with Jameson learning Xander’s father, Isaiah, was accepting of his brother then we can believe that he was happy for Xan but also maybe jealous and yet having a little bit of hope. And we know that Jameson would likely be terrified of that hope because it doesn’t guarantee anything.
Now we finally turn to The Brothers Hawthorne. After a full series of only subtle hints and brief scenes to explore this subject, we get to see from Jameson’s POV, firsthand, the rough sentiment he has for his father. The spiraling conversation that is the first meeting between Ian Johnstone-Jameson and Jamie is a downright shame to see as everything that we saw play out with Gray’s father repeats  itself. In true fashion, Jameson’s pain is constantly pushed to the side by his mantra, “Don’t let it hurt. Turn it into a game.” but we know that this is basically what he was fearing; rejection. If anything, he knew this was coming but he wanted to do it first so he could walk away feeling nothing even though that too would have been a lie.
But Nash was right in telling him that he couldn’t walk away from his father the way he did, unaffected. And I’m sure that in many cases Jameson wished that things wouldn’t affect him but no matter the amount of times he “made it a game”, he felt things strongly buried beneath all that. He just doesn’t have that in him and that’s fine, we’re all human after all. But what wasn’t fine was his father being so horrendously apathetic to him especially in some instances where he refers to Jameson as his son. He knows how much weight that title carries, the acknowledgment that maybe Jameson tells himself he doesn’t need but still craves despite that. Ian knew exactly how to play him to get him to do as he wished and of course, Jameson was left in the dust but he didn’t give in to the hopelessness he felt. But he wasn’t quite abandoned either.
Probably the most heartbreaking part is that when Jameson’s uncle starts scolding him and blatantly tells him he cares for him, this boy is trying to reject this offer of safety and the first sense of paternal love being gestured to him without any impartiality. He has internalized this need to deflect because how many times was the reward too good to be true? Too many. But with Branford pushing forward we see this love being extended forward to him may just be the first step of many on a new journey which could allow Jameson to finally let go of the fear and to heal.

Twisted Kingdom ★★★
Black Knight ★★★★★ (Kimmy <3333)
Vicious Prince ★★★.5
Ruthless Empire ★★★★★ (SilverCole for the win I said what I said)
Royal Elite Epilogue ★★★.5 (the guys' groupchat 💀💀)
Addicted for Now ★★★.5 (it only took me 7 months!!!)
Kiss the Sky ★★★★
Hothouse Flower ★★★★
Thrive ★★★.5 (tandem reading this with the two before saved my ass because I could already see the other 7 months of nothingness)
Addicted After All ★★★.5
Fuel the Fire ★★★.5 (I was expecting a bit more from this but we can't always get what we want)
bonus: The Demon in the Wood, The Witch of Duva, The Tailor, The Too Clever Fox, Kill Joy.
Also, I am currently reading ("reading") Siege & Storm, The Atlas Six, and Long Way Down. I'll probably finish all of them in 2023 because I'm not in the mood to read anything right now *hides Wattpad and its trashy slytherin boys' fanfictions* so yeah, 77 books in a year is pretty damn good, isn't it?
