Fun facts and tidbits from Deep Cut’s stage dialogue:

While Shiver and Frye have favorite weapon classes they swear by (stringers for Shiver and splatanas for Frye), Big Man is the kind of guy who uses different weapons for different stages. Some of the weapons he uses are brushes (at Inkblot Art Academy), blasters (at Humpback Pump Track) and sloshers (at Eeltail Alley).

Frye likes coming up with attack names for Specials used in highly specific ways and charging in with a war cry in turf battles. She is not stealthy.

Deep Cut sells their treasure from the Crater at a high price to a guy running a shady stall in Hagglefish Market.

Shiver’s need for speed is not limited to riding Master Mega into battle. She has openly contemplated taking the cars at Mincemeat Metalworks and the Manta Maria itself for joyrides, and her parents were worried about her riding a bicycle because she’s a danger and a menace to everybody and WILL run you over.

Some stage dialogue basically confirms Deep Cut are housemates (oh my god they were roommates) - the three of them even go shopping for groceries at MakoMart together (Shiver recommends buying in bulk on Tuesdays for great savings!). Frye keeps trying to sneak unapproved snacks into their cart, but Shiver and Big Man are on to her shenanigans.

Big Man has been teaching the girls how to cook ever since they started living together! In Japanese, Shiver straight up admits to struggling with cooking when she moved out of her parents’ house since she’s never really had to cook before, and Frye says before Big Man taught them the basics she mostly ate junk she got from the supermarket. Either way, Big Man points out Frye has a bad habit of putting a ton of sugar into EVERYTHING. She’s... she’s working on it.

None of the Deep Cut trio have ever lived in a housing complex with apartments like Flounder Heights. Frye is very open to the idea, but Shiver isn’t since she thinks she wouldn’t get along well with neighbors.

Deep Cut’s go-to venue for birthday parties is Big Man’s house. It is unclear if it’s because it’s the biggest and nicest of the clan houses, or if it’s because Big Man (and his family by proxy) are the most easygoing and willing to hold parties there.

Both Big Man and Frye have a past with Undertow Spillway - Big Man got lost there once as a child while chasing butterflies, while a young Frye used to skip dance lessons and take her little brother with her to explore and look for treasure.

Frye used to skip school a LOT.

Deep Cut has filmed music videos at Mincemeat Metalworks and Hammerhead Bridge, but the latter was never released because Big Man was knocked over by a strong wind.

Some time ago, Deep Cut were extras for a movie filmed at Scorch Gorge. They were only in the film for two seconds.

Deep Cut are completely weirded out by the NILS Statue, are further weirded out by the fact no one really talks about anymore, and think it’s stupid that there are still tour boats sailing right by the statue. See, they CAN be sensible every once in a while.

Big Man likes to imagine the big cranes at Sturgeon Shipyard combining into a giant robot. Big Man is a nerd.

One of the Mahi-Mahi Resort dialogues has Shiver complaining about how hot it is at the poolside. In English, Big Man suggests taking a dip in the pool, and immediately realizes his friendly advice could be misconstrued because what works for him does NOT work for an inkfish. Compare and contrast Marie telling Callie to take a dip in said pool back in the first game’s NOA translation... they’ve definitely gotten better about this, Big Man really just comes off as a well-meaning goofball here. Meanwhile, in Japanese, Shiver’s complaint brings him to a realization: “so THAT’S why you keep standing in my shadow when we’re here...”

Frye is the kind of person who goes into turf battle with a weapon in one hand and a snack in the other (the only person, Shiver insists). This has made her the target for seagulls enough times that she has issued a public service warning about the little snack thieves.

Once, Frye used Zipcaster to enter one of the high cages at Scorch Gorge... and could not figure out how to get out. There were tears. She insists she didn’t cry and does not want to talk about it.

Hey, I have a question stemming from the most recent splatoon band lore. My understanding is that a) Shiver is an Octoling b) Octolings did not live on the surface until recently and yet c) Deep cut knew (of) each other as kids. Am I missing something, because I can't figure out how all of these things can be true at the same time.

I've seen some confusion floating about and I've gotten a few asks about this exact thing, so I think its about time I made a little write up about it. the fault here is in point b. The truth is: In Inkadia, Octolings did not openly live on the surface until recently.

Meaning that -outside of Inkadia, there were Octolings living freely. -within Inkadia, there were Octolings living in Inkopolis in secret, before the events of Octo Expansion, and even before Marina left the army. For the first point...the band Diss-Pair!

its mentioned in the Haikara Walker artbook that Ikkan met Warabi overseas, as in outside of Inkadia. it's mentioned in Warabi's bio that his parents (presumably octolings!) are famous actors, and that Warabi has toured around many different countries. (source)

And more importantly...

Massive floods were the catalyst for the Great Turf War, with habitable land being an already scarce resource. Deep Cut's ancestors used their clan's powers to create a whirlpool that drained the floods and saved their homeland. (ENG just says the '3 lights consumed the disaster' but JP states they made a whirlpool. with the Eiffel tower's presence and all the debris in the crater...could it be the floodwater drained into Alterna?)

So what happens if there's no flood? No war, no octarian exile. I doubt Shiver's clan is the only long standing family of Octolings living freely in that area. after all, Octolings and Inklings living in harmony was the norm before the war.

I'm thinking that the Great Turf War was limited to inkadia... Or its something like the great floods affected various parts of the world, and the GTW was actually a world war, and battles broke out globally. Regardless, not everywhere had such battles between inklings and octolings, such as the Splatlands. (I'm leaning towards it being an inkadia-only thing, but we know next to nothing about the rest of splatoon's earth right now) Note how far the GTW craters are from the Splatsville. (hi res)

as for Octarians other than Marina living in Inkadia before OE...there's tidbit that implies this.

In Haikara Walker, there's an article about the Inkopolis Backstreets (the s2 tutorial area). It was the center of Inkopolis street fashion culture before Inkopolis plaza took the stage. So at least prior to ME 2014. The article is written in-universe by an author who personally experienced this change in culture over the years. (you can read it here) At the end, it is revealed the author is an adult octoling wearing a hat and mask to cover some Octarian traits.

In the late 1920s, the Great Western Railway was paying close attention to its South Welsh coal traffic. A Pandora’s Box had been opened by the Great War; ten years after its end, the mining industry was still simultaneously roiled by labor strife and the new issue of competition from other countries who could sell their coal cheaper. Beyer-Peacock was contracted to draw and construct a small number of Garratts, (the GWR leadership was too conservative to build them themselves, although the blue collar rank of Swindon had been eager to try and distraught at being denied,) each of which would do the work of two eight-coupled heavy goods engines. This would cut down on crewing costs and beneficially not require alteration to the existing permanent way.

Six 2-8-0+0-8-2 Garratts were built in a single batch in 1933, hitting the rails just as demand for coal was cratering. Their introduction also meant the redundancy of a dozen or so 4200 Class tanks which already were under scrutiny due to market trends of the day. The Garratts, quickly named “Super Taffys,” were at first resented for their foreignness, but their comfortable cabs and smooth riding quickly won enginemen over.

They survived intact as a class until 1959 when withdrawals began, and never strayed much from their home turf. As a result, they drew trainspotters from the country over to South Wales. A much overpowered double-header Farewell Special was arranged in the summer of 1964, (which worked out beautifully as the class weren’t fitted to steam heat passenger stock,) and these two last survivors were sold right into preservation. This was for the best, not merely for posterity but because Woodham Brothers of Barry Island “couldn’t be buggered” with storing them had they gone for scrap.

A Dark Path Walked Chapter 1: The Meeting

It has been three months ever since Juliana moved from Galar to Paldea. She barely made herself at home in Cabo Poco when she decided to enroll in Naranja Academy. Not only that, Director Clavell made a visit to her house to tell her that her enrollment has been accepted. Along the journey to her new school, she met her neighbor and classmate, Nemona, who loves to battle and the two became rivals when Juliana picked Fuecoco and Nemona chose Quaxly. The newly-moved girl then met a mysterious creature called Koraidon/Miraidon after she fell off Poco Path and survived thanks to her Rotom Phone being used as a parachute, they escaped a pack of Houndour and Houndoom and met their Houndoom leader, who proved to be way too strong to Juliana and Fuecoco and Koraidon/Miraidon rescued her.

On her way to the Poco Lighthouse, she and Nemona met a young man named Arven, who is not only also a student of the same Academy she enrolled, he is also the son of the esteemed Professor Sada. After a beautiful view from the Lighthouse and an extremely long trip through Los Platos and South Province due to her not having a Cyclizar, Juliana finally arrives in Mesagoza. Before she could enter Naranja Academy, she saved a girl with an Eevee bag named Penny from some trouble making students who call themselves Team Star and she also received a Tera Orb from Nemona during the confrontation.

Upon entering the esteemed Naranja Academy, not only could she see how big and marvelous the place is, she also met Jacq, her homeroom teacher and the creator of the Paldean Pokédex, got some requests to defeat the eight gym leaders and Pokémon League from Nemona, find Five mysterious herbs called Herba Mystica from Arven and put an end to Team Star’s trouble making behavior from a mysterious entity called Cassiopeia for her Treasure Hunt. Juliana also learned that Koraidon can help her by being a ride Pokémon like Cyclizar and that made it easier for her to travel. During her Treasure Hunt, not only did she grow stronger, she also helped Nemona complete her goal of finding the perfect rival for her which turned out to be Juliana herself, used the Herba Mystica to not only restore Koraidons ability to travel better like climbing, gliding and swimming, but also cure Arven’s partner Mabostiff, who got badly injured during an expedition in Area Zero, and proved to Team Star and their leader, Cassopeia, aka Penny, that there is no need to be afraid in going back to school and that hurting others is not the right thing to do. Juliana also learned of Team Star’s tragic backstory of them being bullied by other students and retaliating against them.

After that ordeal is done, Juliana was about to rest back at Naranja Academy when she got a call from Arven to meet him at Zero Gate at the Great Crater of Paldea, which is forbidden entry due to how dangerous it is since the Quaking Earth Titan was a Great Tusk that escaped from the even dangerous Area Zero. She met him, Nemona and Penny at the entrance and they got the elevator to the lift to Area Zero working thanks to Penny’s hacking skills.

It took them a bit longer to enter since Koraidon did not want to go there due to some trauma, but the four students helped out. As soon as they entered, Koraidon returned to its Pokéball because of fear, which led the four of them to find Professor Sada, who is trapped in the Zero Lab, by foot. Along the way, they unlocked all four locks in the research stations blocking the entrance to Zero Lab, fighting a Glimmora outside the first station, which Nemona recognizes as a Pokémon Geeta, La Primera, owns, a Scream Tail, which Penny confused for a Jigglypuff, and another Great Tusk. At the same time, the behavior of Professor Sada is acting stranger and stranger.

Upon reaching the Zero Lab, they confront another Koraidon that sent Juliana’s Koraidon away after a turf war and an army of ancient looking Pokémon similar to Misdreavus and Amoongus. Nemona, Penny and Arven stayed behind to hold the reinforcements while Juliana entered the Zero Lab.

As she explores the Zero Lab, she sees Professor Sada, but it is an AI made to look and act like Professor Sada because the real Professor Sada passed away protecting Juliana’s Koraidon from the aggressive Koraidon. The AI takes Juliana to the time machine and begs for her to stop the original Professor’s wishes to continue the Time Machine. As she tries to fulfill the AI’s wish, it challenges her to a battle with a team of ancient looking Pokémon.When Nemona, Arven and Penny arrive to help Juliana, the AI activates the Time Machine’s Paradise Protection Protocol to lock all Pokémon except those on the ownership of Professor.

Just when all hope is lost when the AI sends out the aggressive Koraidon, Juliana uses the Koraidon she has been taking care of. Her kindness and devotion helped Koraidon regain its true strength and with everyone’s cheers, Koraidon defeated its aggressive counterpart.

Victory was bittersweet. Paldea was saved, but Arven learned the truth of his mother from an AI who was replicating her appearance and behavior. And not only that, AI Sada decided to use the time machine to go to the ancient past to discover her dream and freedom.

It has been three months ever since the start of the Treasure Hunt. Juliana had a long schedule, doing the Gym Inspections in Geeta’s stead, participating in the Academy Ace tournament founded by Nemona, completing her Pokédex and helping Professor Jacq on his research with Tera Raids.

Her Rotom Phone Rang when she had caught a mysterious ancient Suicune called Walking Wake.

“Hello?” She answered the call.

“Hello, Juliana, my girl!” Professor Jacq said with his useful cheerful tone.

“Hello, Professor Jacq.” The brown haired girl smiled. “Did you need something for your research?” “Actually, I called you for something else.” Professor Jacq answered. “Remember when you signed up for a lottery for an upcoming school trip?” “Yes. I did.” Juliana nodded, playing with her braid. “What happened?” “We just got the results in just a day and you are one of four students to be chosen for the trip!” The Professor said with a happier tone. “Really?!” Juliana beamed in joy. “I’m chosen! I’m so happy!” “No need to worry about asking permission.” Jacq said. “Your mother gave us the good to go. Why don’t you meet me and a special someone at the Academy’s Entrance?”

“I will.” Juliana smiled. “See you there.”

As she hung up the call, she couldn’t help herself when she jumped in joy. It was the first time she had a trip ever since moving out from Galar. She ran towards Skeledirge, Koraidon and the rest of her Pokémon. “Koraidon, Skeledirge, Tinkaton, Kilowatrel, Arboliva, Armarouge, Annihalape!” She cheered. “We are chosen for the trip! We’re going to make so many friends! People and Pokémon alike!” Her Pokémon made a variety of noises in celebration, the loudest being Skeledirge and Koraidon. “Let’s go back to Naranja Academy! Professor Jacq is waiting for us!” She said as she recalled her Pokémon except for Koraidon.

After she made some preparations, Juliana entered Naranja Academy, where at the entrance hall, a woman with dark blond hair was waiting for her. The woman turned around as Juliana approached her.

“Ah. Hello, you must be Juliana, right?” The woman greeted the girl. “One of four students in Naranja Academy chosen by lottery?” “Yes, ma’am.” Juliana nodded. “I am Juliana.” “Nice to meet you, sweet Juliana.” The woman smiled. “Allow me to introduce myself. I am Briar, and I will be your guide for our field trip to Kitakami. I am also a teacher at Blueberry Academy, which is located in Unova.” “Blueberry Academy, such a cool name!” Juliana got more excited to hear of Blueberry Academy. “I’m happy to hear that you love the small details I gave to our school.” Briar said with joy in her voice. “I am also here for another reason… Have you heard of Area Zero?” “Yes.” Juliana nodded. “I went there as part of my Treasure Hunt.” “I see.” Briar hummed. “Apparently, I am here to request access to Area Zero after hearing of a mysterious Pokémon called Terapagos. I even got the original note about Terapagos from Heath, the founder of the Scarlet Book, who is my ancestor. Anyway, let us change the topic back to the field trip. Did you make some preparations for our trip to Kitakami?” “Of course, ma’am.” Juliana nodded. Jacq and three other students, a small boy wearing a red cap, a taller boy and a girl, arrive. “Apologies for my lateness, Miss Briar.” Jacq said. “I was making some updates on the Pokédex app since Kitakami will have different Pokémon.” “My, you are very well-prepared, Mister Jacq.” Briar mused. “Juliana, would you allow me to update the Pokédex App on your Rotom Phone?” Jacq turned to Juliana.

“Of course, Professor Jacq!” Juliana agreed.

After Jacq upgraded Juliana’s Pokédex to add the Kitakami Pokédex, Briar, Juliana and the other three students headed off for a long plane flight and bus ride to Kitakami Road in the Kitakami region. As they took a rest at the bus stop, the red cap student started feeling motion sick and Briar requested Juliana to find some help at the nearby town’s community center. Juliana agreed out of kindness and selflessness, and headed off to the nearby Mossui Town.

Juliana was intrigued by the variety of Pokémon not seen in Paldea, Yanma, Poochyena, Volbeat, Johtoian Wooper, Corphish and Sewaddle. She stopped herself from being distracted as she arrived at Mossui Town and saw a pair of siblings, an older sister and a younger brother, talking to each other in front of the community center.

“Are those two kids residents of Mossui Town?” Juliana thought to herself. “Maybe they can help tend to Josue.”

The younger brother saw Juliana and turned to his sister. “Sis! Look!” He said. “There’s another one!”

The Older sister smiled to herself and ran off towards Juliana with her younger brother following her and hiding behind her back.

“Hello.” The Older sister greeted Juliana by waving. “I see that you do not belong here in Kitakami. Who might you be?” “Hello.” Juliana smiled, unaware that the kindness the older sister has is a facade. “I’m Juliana. I study at Naranja Academy in Paldea and I need your help.”

The younger brother leaned sideways a bit from behind his sister and looked at Juliana in awe.

“No way…” He muttered. “So cool…”

“Hush, Kieran.” The older sister turned to her younger brother, Kieran, before facing Juliana. “Anyway, Juliana, my name is Carmine and I am afraid I cannot let you pass to Mossui Town. Not unless you battle me.”

“Hold on.” Juliana raised her hands. “I actually need help.” “She’s right, Sis.” Kieran said. “We can’t just battle strangers out of nowhere.”

“Kiki… I said-” Carmine growled before she was interrupted by Juliana. “One of my classmates fell ill after a long flight and bus ride and I need to find someone who can help me out by tending to him.” Juliana said. “N-no way!” Kieran shook his head. “Th-this is a very serious matter! I’ll go get the caretaker so he can help!”

As Kieran runs off to get some help, Carmine turns to him. “Kiki, what are you-?!” Carmine tried to call out to her brother, but he was far off, so she turned to Juliana. “Well, it seems that you managed to speak some sense to my younger brother, but unfortunately, you will not fool me.” “This isn’t a joke!” Juliana tried to calm Carmine down.

“I don’t care what you say. We are going to battle.” Carmine growled as she took a Pokéball and sent out Poochyena.

Juliana sighed as she had no choice as she sent out Annihalape.

It didn’t take some effort for Juliana since she just used Annihalape to defeat Carmine’s Poochyena, Vulpix and Poltchageist.

“I cannot believe it!” Carmine growled as she grabbed the strands on her hair. “There is no way you should have been able to beat me!” She takes a deep breath and calms down. “Alright… I guess you pass… barely. I’ll let you into town. But only if you become one of my grunts and do every little thing I-”

Just as Carmine was about to make Juliana into her “grunt”, Kieran and an old man come out of the community center. “Oi!” The man called out to Carmine. “What are you doing, causing a ruckus out here?!”

“Tch… here comes trouble.” Carmine hissed before running off.

“Sis! Wait up!” Kieran called out to her to no avail. He let out a sigh. “I am so sorry… Sis can be… stubborn.”

“It’s ok.” Juliana smiled. “I dealt with worse.” “I see that you are a student of Naranja Academy” The old man turned to Juliana and smiled. “I will be the caretaker for your trip. I apologize for Carmine’s behavior. She has been rowdy as of last week. Also, I got word from Kieran that you need help on a classmate of yours who fell ill. Is that correct?” “Y-yes, sir.” Kieran nodded.

“Very Well.” The Caretaker said. “I will help out.” “Thank you.” Juliana said. “They’re still at the bus stop.”

“Thank you, young lady.” The Caretaker smiled. “You are such a kind girl.”

The Caretaker left to tend to the sick student.

“Th-thank you for the w-warning.” Kieran said, playing with his hair. “And… I’m sorry for Sis’ behavior…”

“Don’t worry about it.” Juliana smiled. “You made the right choice to tell someone. Oh, she did challenge me to a battle and I defeated her.” “Wowzers!” Kieran gasped. “You actually beat my sis?! No people could defeat Sis when they arrived at Kitakami.”

“You have a lot of knowledge on this, Kieran.” Juliana shook her head.

“I actually live here.” Kieran smiles shily. “And… I look forward to studying with you for this Field Trip.”

Kieran ran back home as Briar, the caretaker and the students arrived, the red cap the student feeling better. After that, everyone had a feast at the community center and had a goodnight sleep.

“What an interesting Field Trip we’re gonna have.” Juliana thought to herself. “Kieran’s such a nice kid… but Carmine… I feel like I might have trouble trying to get to know her if she has some issues with me trying to enter Mossui…”

The Paldean girl went to bed, trying to get a good night's sleep for the next day.

Splatoon Mech AU: Storymode

This will be more in line with an anime plot and its pacing, and will be a general overview for this AU. Fair warning: I can't write to save my life.

Story - The Beginning

Hiro and Veronika (and Lil Buddy) head to the Crater in Junks, their Old Tech mech, to do some scavenging for mech parts.

Whilst the trio is rummaging through the human tech debris, two mechs fly overhead, shortly followed by a dozen or so law enforcement mecha. The gang play opossum and set Junks down beside the rest of the metal scrap to blend in to avoid detection. The two mechs from before that flew overhead fly over again; this time heading staight towards the centre of the Crater. The trio are certain the pilots of the mechs plan on taking their mechs down with them in a final bid to escape the feds when the scorched earth opens up, swallowing the two mecha whole.

The opening closed just as quickly as it opened; its metal maws promptly snapping shut with a clang.

No sooner had it closed when the law arrived en masse; the sun reflecting harshly off of their metal chassis'. The gang had no other choice but to wait patiently, and pray they remained hidden. It was starting to get dark...

The squad of scavengers awaken to a loud thud outside of Junks. 'This is it,' they think to themselves, 'we've been rumbled'. Before they could rev Junks' engines to life to escape, a spindly figure of an old man slid down the Pilot's window. Neither of the three could decide what was worse; the Cod awful sound of skin on screen friction, or the fact that the old fart was staring directly at them. They had indeed been 'rumbled', but fortunately not by the feds.

"...Do I use the window wipers." Hiro mused.

Veronika looked over to him, signing a stern "No", with a capital 'N'. Lil Buddy babbled enthusiastically.

"You're no fun." he exhaled as he unbuckled himself from his Pilot seat, hauling himself up and out of Junks' Pilot cabin hole.

The old man was already halfway down Junks' screen by the time Hiro got out. At least it saved him the job of having to peel him off of Junks. Hiro clambered down Junks' side ladder to reach the old man before he inevitably fell; though with how long it was taking for the old fart to slide down, it might have been faster to simply shove him to the floor.

Nevertheless, Hiro waited. And waited. And waited. And-

"Veronika! Use the blasted wipers!" he barked up into Junks' Pilot cabin.

Though no sooner had he said it did the old man fall directly on top of him. Hiro had never tasted sand before today. Needless to say, he was not a fan of its grainy and dry texture in his mouth. Or the old fart crushing his abdomen.

Veronika and Lil Buddy watched on unamused as the two floundered on the ground like toddlers; Hiro spluttering and spitting sand from his mouth whilst the spindly old man pushed himself off of Hiro and onto his feet, completely oblivious.

"You..." Hiro managed between a mouthful of sand.

The two cabin crew mates locked eyes with one another in silent agreement, before exiting through the Pilot hatch.

Veronika double tapped their double ear pieces, bringing them to life. Veronika signed a few phrases to test if the sign to audio translation worked. Hopefully this would make communication easier, though with the potential for a scuffle breaking out between Hiro and "Screen Wiper", that might be too optimistic of a thought.

Veronika and Buddy emerged from Junks expecting to find that the Great Turf War II had broken out berween their co-pilot and Screen Wiper; though much to their surprise the two were behaving civilised with one another, deep in discussion.

"Heya Squiddo!" the old man beamed as Veronika descended Junks.

"I've got a proposal for you three, if you'd hear an old squid out..."

Along the journey to her new school, she met her neighbor and classmate, Nemona, who loves to battle and the two became rivals when Juliana picked Fuecoco and Nemona chose Quaxly. The newly-moved girl then met a mysterious creature called Koraidon/Miraidon after she fell off Poco Path and survived thanks to her Rotom Phone being used as a parachute, they escaped a pack of Houndour and Houndoom and met their Houndoom leader, who proved to be way too strong to Juliana and Fuecoco and Koraidon/Miraidon rescued her.

On her way to the Poco Lighthouse, she and Nemona met a young man named Arven, who is not only also a student of the same Academy she enrolled, he is also the son of the esteemed Professor Sada. After a beautiful view from the Lighthouse and an extremely long trip through Los Platos and South Province due to her not having a Cyclizar, Juliana finally arrives in Mesagoza. Before she could enter Naranja Academy, she saved a girl with an Eevee bag named Penny from some trouble making students who call themselves Team Star and she also received a Tera Orb from Nemona during the confrontation.

Upon entering the esteemed Naranja Academy, not only could she see how big and marvelous the place is, she also met Jacq, her homeroom teacher and the creator of the Paldean Pokédex, got some requests to defeat the eight gym leaders and Pokémon League from Nemona, find Five mysterious herbs called Herba Mystica from Arven and put an end to Team Star’s trouble making behavior from a mysterious entity called Cassiopeia for her Treasure Hunt. Juliana also learned that Koraidon can help her by being a ride Pokémon like Cyclizar and that made it easier for her to travel. During her Treasure Hunt, not only did she grow stronger, she also helped Nemona complete her goal of finding the perfect rival for her which turned out to be Juliana herself, used the Herba Mystica to not only restore Koraidons ability to travel better like climbing, gliding and swimming, but also cure Arven’s partner Mabostiff, who got badly injured during an expedition in Area Zero, and proved to Team Star and their leader, Cassopeia, aka Penny, that there is no need to be afraid in going back to school and that hurting others is not the right thing to do. Juliana also learned of Team Star’s tragic backstory of them being bullied by other students and retaliating against them.

After that ordeal is done, Juliana was about to rest back at Naranja Academy when she got a call from Arven to meet him at Zero Gate at the Great Crater of Paldea, which is forbidden entry due to how dangerous it is since the Quaking Earth Titan was a Great Tusk that escaped from the even dangerous Area Zero. She met him, Nemona and Penny at the entrance and they got the elevator to the lift to Area Zero working thanks to Penny’s hacking skills.

It took them a bit longer to enter since Koraidon did not want to go there due to some trauma, but the four students helped out. As soon as they entered, Koraidon returned to its Pokéball because of fear, which led the four of them to find Professor Sada, who is trapped in the Zero Lab, by foot. Along the way, they unlocked all four locks in the research stations blocking the entrance to Zero Lab, fighting a Glimmora outside the first station, which Nemona recognizes as a Pokémon Geeta, La Primera, owns, a Scream Tail, which Penny confused for a Jigglypuff, and another Great Tusk. At the same time, the behavior of Professor Sada is acting stranger and stranger.

Upon reaching the Zero Lab, they confront another Koraidon that sent Juliana’s Koraidon away after a turf war and an army of ancient looking Pokémon similar to Misdreavus and Amoongus. Nemona, Penny and Arven stayed behind to hold the reinforcements while Juliana entered the Zero Lab.

As she explores the Zero Lab, she sees Professor Sada, but it is an AI made to look and act like Professor Sada because the real Professor Sada passed away protecting Juliana’s Koraidon from the aggressive Koraidon. The AI takes Juliana to the time machine and begs for her to stop the original Professor’s wishes to continue the Time Machine. As she tries to fulfill the AI’s wish, it challenges her to a battle with a team of ancient looking Pokémon.When Nemona, Arven and Penny arrive to help Juliana, the AI activates the Time Machine’s Paradise Protection Protocol to lock all Pokémon except those on the ownership of Professor.

Just when all hope is lost when the AI sends out the aggressive Koraidon, Juliana uses the Koraidon she has been taking care of. Her kindness and devotion helped Koraidon regain its true strength and with everyone’s cheers, Koraidon defeated its aggressive counterpart.

Victory was bittersweet. Paldea was saved, but Arven learned the truth of his mother from an AI who was replicating her appearance and behavior. And not only that, AI Sada decided to use the time machine to go to the ancient past to discover her dream and freedom.

It has been three months ever since the start of the Treasure Hunt. Juliana had a long schedule, doing the Gym Inspections in Geeta’s stead, participating in the Academy Ace tournament founded by Nemona, completing her Pokédex and helping Professor Jacq on his research with Tera Raids.

Her Rotom Phone Rang when she had caught a mysterious ancient Suicune called Walking Wake.

“Hello?” She answered the call.

“Hello, Juliana, my girl!” Professor Jacq said with his useful cheerful tone.

“Hello, Professor Jacq.” The brown haired girl smiled. “Did you need something for your research?” “Actually, I called you for something else.” Professor Jacq answered. “Remember when you signed up for a lottery for an upcoming school trip?” “Yes. I did.” Juliana nodded, playing with her braid. “What happened?” “We just got the results in just a day and you are one of four students to be chosen for the trip!” The Professor said with a happier tone. “Really?!” Juliana beamed in joy. “I’m chosen! I’m so happy!” “No need to worry about asking permission.” Jacq said. “Your mother gave us the good to go. Why don’t you meet me and a special someone at the Academy’s Entrance?”

“I will.” Juliana smiled. “See you there.”

As she hung up the call, she couldn’t help herself when she jumped in joy. It was the first time she had a trip ever since moving out from Galar. She ran towards Skeledirge, Koraidon and the rest of her Pokémon. “Koraidon, Skeledirge, Tinkaton, Kilowatrel, Arboliva, Armarouge, Annihalape!” She cheered. “We are chosen for the trip! We’re going to make so many friends! People and Pokémon alike!” Her Pokémon made a variety of noises in celebration, the loudest being Skeledirge and Koraidon. “Let’s go back to Naranja Academy! Professor Jacq is waiting for us!” She said as she recalled her Pokémon except for Koraidon.

After she made some preparations, Juliana entered Naranja Academy, where at the entrance hall, a woman with dark blond hair was waiting for her. The woman turned around as Juliana approached her.

“Ah. Hello, you must be Juliana, right?” The woman greeted the girl. “One of four students in Naranja Academy chosen by lottery?” “Yes, ma’am.” Juliana nodded. “I am Juliana.” “Nice to meet you, sweet Juliana.” The woman smiled. “Allow me to introduce myself. I am Briar, and I will be your guide for our field trip to Kitakami. I am also a teacher at Blueberry Academy, which is located in Unova.” “Blueberry Academy, such a cool name!” Juliana got more excited to hear of Blueberry Academy. “I’m happy to hear that you love the small details I gave to our school.” Briar said with joy in her voice. “I am also here for another reason… Have you heard of Area Zero?” “Yes.” Juliana nodded. “I went there as part of my Treasure Hunt.” “I see.” Briar hummed. “Apparently, I am here to request access to Area Zero after hearing of a mysterious Pokémon called Terapagos. I even got the original note about Terapagos from Heath, the founder of the Scarlet Book, who is my ancestor. Anyway, let us change the topic back to the field trip. Did you make some preparations for our trip to Kitakami?” “Of course, ma’am.” Juliana nodded. Jacq and three other students, a small boy wearing a red cap, a taller boy and a girl, arrive. “Apologies for my lateness, Miss Briar.” Jacq said. “I was making some updates on the Pokédex app since Kitakami will have different Pokémon.” “My, you are very well-prepared, Mister Jacq.” Briar mused. “Juliana, would you allow me to update the Pokédex App on your Rotom Phone?” Jacq turned to Juliana.

“Of course, Professor Jacq!” Juliana agreed.

After Jacq upgraded Juliana’s Pokédex to add the Kitakami Pokédex, Briar, Juliana and the other three students headed off for a long plane flight and bus ride to Kitakami Road in the Kitakami region. As they took a rest at the bus stop, the red cap student started feeling motion sick and Briar requested Juliana to find some help at the nearby town’s community center. Juliana agreed out of kindness and selflessness, and headed off to the nearby Mossui Town.

Juliana was intrigued by the variety of Pokémon not seen in Paldea, Yanma, Poochyena, Volbeat, Johtoian Wooper, Corphish and Sewaddle. She stopped herself from being distracted as she arrived at Mossui Town and saw a pair of siblings, an older sister and a younger brother, talking to each other in front of the community center.

“Are those two kids residents of Mossui Town?” Juliana thought to herself. “Maybe they can help tend to Josue.”

The younger brother saw Juliana and turned to his sister. “Sis! Look!” He said. “There’s another one!”

The Older sister smiled to herself and ran off towards Juliana with her younger brother following her and hiding behind her back.

“Hello.” The Older sister greeted Juliana by waving. “I see that you do not belong here in Kitakami. Who might you be?” “Hello.” Juliana smiled, unaware that the kindness the older sister has is a facade. “I’m Juliana. I study at Naranja Academy in Paldea and I need your help.”

The younger brother leaned sideways a bit from behind his sister and looked at Juliana in awe.

“No way…” He muttered. “So cool…”

“Hush, Kieran.” The older sister turned to her younger brother, Kieran, before facing Juliana. “Anyway, Juliana, my name is Carmine and I am afraid I cannot let you pass to Mossui Town. Not unless you battle me.”

“Hold on.” Juliana raised her hands. “I actually need help.” “She’s right, Sis.” Kieran said. “We can’t just battle strangers out of nowhere.”

“Kiki… I said-” Carmine growled before she was interrupted by Juliana. “One of my classmates fell ill after a long flight and bus ride and I need to find someone who can help me out by tending to him.” Juliana said. “N-no way!” Kieran shook his head. “Th-this is a very serious matter! I’ll go get the caretaker so he can help!”

As Kieran runs off to get some help, Carmine turns to him. “Kiki, what are you-?!” Carmine tried to call out to her brother, but he was far off, so she turned to Juliana. “Well, it seems that you managed to speak some sense to my younger brother, but unfortunately, you will not fool me.” “This isn’t a joke!” Juliana tried to calm Carmine down.

“I don’t care what you say. We are going to battle.” Carmine growled as she took a Pokéball and sent out Poochyena.

Juliana sighed as she had no choice as she sent out Annihalape.

It didn’t take some effort for Juliana since she just used Annihalape to defeat Carmine’s Poochyena, Vulpix and Poltchageist.

“I cannot believe it!” Carmine growled as she grabbed the strands on her hair. “There is no way you should have been able to beat me!” She takes a deep breath and calms down. “Alright… I guess you pass… barely. I’ll let you into town. But only if you become one of my grunts and do every little thing I-”

Just as Carmine was about to make Juliana into her “grunt”, Kieran and an old man come out of the community center. “Oi!” The man called out to Carmine. “What are you doing, causing a ruckus out here?!”

“Tch… here comes trouble.” Carmine hissed before running off.

“Sis! Wait up!” Kieran called out to her to no avail. He let out a sigh. “I am so sorry… Sis can be… stubborn.”

“It’s ok.” Juliana smiled. “I dealt with worse.” “I see that you are a student of Naranja Academy” The old man turned to Juliana and smiled. “I will be the caretaker for your trip. I apologize for Carmine’s behavior. She has been rowdy as of last week. Also, I got word from Kieran that you need help on a classmate of yours who fell ill. Is that correct?” “Y-yes, sir.” Kieran nodded.

“Very Well.” The Caretaker said. “I will help out.” “Thank you.” Juliana said. “They’re still at the bus stop.”

“Thank you, young lady.” The Caretaker smiled. “You are such a kind girl.”

The Caretaker left to tend to the sick student.

“Th-thank you for the w-warning.” Kieran said, playing with his hair. “And… I’m sorry for Sis’ behavior…”

“Don’t worry about it.” Juliana smiled. “You made the right choice to tell someone. Oh, she did challenge me to a battle and I defeated her.” “Wowzers!” Kieran gasped. “You actually beat my sis?! No people could defeat Sis when they arrived at Kitakami.”

“You have a lot of knowledge on this, Kieran.” Juliana shook her head.

“I actually live here.” Kieran smiles shily. “And… I look forward to studying with you for this Field Trip.”

Kieran ran back home as Briar, the caretaker and the students arrived, the red cap the student feeling better. After that, everyone had a feast at the community center and had a goodnight sleep.

“What an interesting Field Trip we’re gonna have.” Juliana thought to herself. “Kieran’s such a nice kid… but Carmine… I feel like I might have trouble trying to get to know her if she has some issues with me trying to enter Mossui…”

The Paldean girl went to bed, trying to get a good night's sleep for the next day.

"The Ark Polaris.....that was her idea. Annalise. From where I'm from." He mumbles quietly. "She had such a kind heart. She just wanted to save those poor animals. It's a shame what became of them, and then the Ursine Anomaly."

He shakes his head. "But enough about the past for now. I can't change it, so there's no good dreaming about what could've been."

Vulture notices the slight shock that appears on his face, but decides that it isn't important.

"Oh - right now? I didn't think you'd be free, but..." He scrounges around in his pocket for something, eventually pulling out a folded piece of paper. It's a map of Inkadia. "I've been saving this for a while now. The wind can bring you all sorts of useful things.

When examined closer, it was shown to be covered in red circles and lines, some faded ink, some newer. But they all pointed to one place.

"I think....I think we were over here." He points to a spot marked "The Great Turf War Craters". "I know, I know, it's practically a continent away from here, my pod got swept all the way out during the flood, but those sea folk finished that big bridge now. It should be hell of a lot faster than trekking the long way. I think they installed a maglev system on the upper part of the bridge, we could be there within hours if we go now, I have some equipment that we can bring along, and-"

He catches himself. "Sorry, the prospect of finding a way to bring Annalise back, plus all the science stuff gets me really excited. Old habits die hard." He feels his face grow red from embarrassment ."Well, uh- shall we prepare? And go?"

“So Annalise was the one behind the Ark... Yeah, it’s a shame their best wasn’t good enough. Would’ve liked to see some familiar wildlife, you know? ... Not so much bears, but you know, like, rabbits, dogs.. anyway.” Tartar frowns.

“No, it’s better to focus on the now. Reminiscing is better when you run into old friends, I’d say.” He nods.

Tartar looks over the map, following the lines and crosses until it gets to that central point. “Had the time to plan this out, huh? I guess it helps to know- my life would’ve been much easier if I remembered where the professor’s coworkers were holed up...”

“Oh damn, really?” His face lighted up in interest. “Yeah- No, you’re good. I’m basically just stuck smelling the roses and reading documents right now anyways, I can spend a day trying to help. All in good fun.” Tartar offered Vulture a handshake, waiting for the other to grab what they could. In-between packing trips, he somehow gained a bottle of water.

[Coroika Robot AU: Droids of Coroika]

I've been working on an AU for a few weeks now. Specs' design is pictured above. The AU is still a HUGE W.I.P though so I don't have much info to share yet.

[Basics of the lore]

All citizens disappear off the face of the earth, no inkfish or non-ink related fish to be found, only their creations remain. Their androids and robots divided themselves into teams of 4, and spread across the remains of inkadia. One team in particular, Team Emperor, is extremely violent and seeks to hunt down and destroy all other teams. Allied teams notice and join together to defend themselves from this threat. The allied teams build base camps along the ruins of inkadia. Occasionally the allied teams come across the remains of teams who they haven't met yet. Turf wars still exist, but they are mainly done between the allied teams. Turf wars are more viewed as a pastime, however, the violent team doesn't do turf wars. The violent team seeks out teams to decimate them.

[Team designs]

Teams will tend to have different model appearances. [For example: Team Blue consists entirely of strange floating technology based robots with screens as their faces.] Designs for other teams are still being thought of. The clothing of each team will be stylized a little to add some variety to the AU.

Emperor's Turf: Areas colored in red. Territory in which Team Emperor is known to roam and reside, all allied teams refuse to go there. Unfortunately Team Emperor does not stay in their turf and will occasionally ambush traveling teams.

Sea of Conflict: The tides had risen over the years, completely covering the Great Turf War Craters and giving way for the new, enlarged sea.

Octochasm Lake: The rising tides have completely flooded octo canyon, rendering the old Octarian territory completely unreachable.

Eight Legged Lake: Same deal as Octochasm lake, only with Octo Valley instead.

The Safe Route: The route that has been titled as the safest route between all 3 base camps.

[Bases]

Hall of Unity: A place in which the allied teams meet to discuss further action in response of the enemy's doings

Base Inkfall: A place of safety ran by Team Inkfall. It's very clean there. Soft beds as well.

Base Hachi: A base full of gadgets and tools. The local "weapons smith" some might say.

Base S4: A base ran by the infamous S4 along with their own individual teams, quite crowded there, but still safe.

The ruins of Splatsville: What remains of the once populated city for chaotic cephalopods.

The ruins of Inkopolis: The sad remains of the once bright and vibrant city of color.

[Gravesites]

Gravesite of Team XBlood: The site of which Emperor's first victims had fallen. The entire team was mercilessly wiped.

Gravesite of Team Yellow-Green: The site of where 3 members of Team Yellow-Green had fallen, only Rider remains.

Gravesite of Team Hachi: The site of where 2 members of Team Hachi had fallen, only Hachi and Nana remain.

Gravesite of Team Dark Green: Latest set of victims. All members were wiped.

[The antagonists]

The info of the violent team hasn't been fully written yet. To get an idea of how violent and destructive they can be, just know that Team X-Blood is the first to fall. The leader of the violent team can control his teammates at will, usually their eyes will glow red when controlled. One of the members is an outlier, and does not desire to decimate other teams.

Splatoon 3 theory time! Spoiler warning, of course

Here’s some more Splatoon lore analysis for you… what if the splatlands didn’t partake in the great turf war? For starters, on the official map, Octoling turf COULD extend into the splatlands, however it cuts off at the desert, and yet the splatlands are not labeled as Inkling turf. There’s also the sunken scroll in Splatoon 3 that refers to Splatsville as a “melting pot” which, post Splatoon 1, Inkopolis very slowly became, and yet, it was never referred to as such, not that I know of, at least. Now here’s another detail that supports this theory… Shiver, specifically, does not know that Agent 1 and 2 are the Squid Sisters. I’m pretty sure, if they had been in the Octarian army, they would have known that. This isn’t the strongest part of the argument, of course, but it’s still an interesting addition. Plus, there’s really no where the Octarian army could goin the Splatlands besides the crater of course, but as we know, the only thing beneath that is Mr. Grizz and Alterna, not Octoling turf. And there’s also Octavio hanging out above ground, too- So all this builds up to the idea that the Splatlands were not apart of the great turf war… which I think would be really cool.

splatoon is a whole franchise! it has games, merch and manga! there's two splatoon manga series, one is the squid kid comedy show and the other is made by sankichi hinodeya and its more popular! that manga is also called coroika cause it was released through the corocoro magazine! :D

imma just sum up the plot of the games + the octo expansion so far haha

so basically in the first game, after the great turf war, the great zapfish that powers inkopolis has been stolen by the octarians and their leader, dj octavio and an inkling known as agent 3 of the new squidbeak splatoon is recruited by cap'n cuttlefish and they have to infiltrate octo valley, the octarian's base and rescue the zapfish.

in the second game, it's been 2 years since final callie vs marie splatfest in splat1 and while cap'n cuttlefish and agent 3 are on vactation, callie and great zapfish that powers inkopolis square goes missing. so agent 4 is recruited by marie to go look for callie and the zapfish.

the octo expansion is the "vacation" agent 3 and cuttlefish are on. agent 3 battled an octoling and it somehow lead the octoling and cap'n cuttlefish to an abandoned station that is run by kamabo corp in the deepsea metro. the octoling is given the name of agent 8 and with the help of pearl, marina and agent 3, they try to escape the facility.

in the third game, it's been 5 whole years since the chaos vs order final splatfest ended. the playable character, who is either an inkling or an octoling, along with their lil smallfry salmonid buddy is recruited by cap'n cuttlefish into the new squidbeak splatoon as the brand new agent 3! the old agent 3 (who i'll call captain 3) is now the captain cause cuttlefish retired from that position and passed it down to them. the majority of splat3's story mode takes place in alterna, a location beneath the crater. agent 3, along with the help of captain 3, callie and marie help them in finding cuttlefish since he went missing shortly after agent 3 was recruited.

my fave scene in splatoon? tbh, its a tie between deep cut's intro scene in splatoon 3 and the scene in octo expansion where pearl pulled out the princess canon and yelled so loud it saved the world. those scenes are literally my fave scenes in the entire franchise haha.

Set in Alterna where instead of Grizzco the regular squid government (??) sends down a small team to investigate the crater. Same thing as in the original ASO story where they’re aware of Alterna’s existence but they hide it from David & Frank honestly they dont know much about it either LMAOOOO‼️ theyre hopin to uncover old human technology to make better Machines i Guess‼️‼️‼️ Hal & Sal are either gonna be Hologram AI’s that were created by a human scientist to watch over Alterna OR sea cucumbers. The Sea Cucumber Route would be where Hal was sent by the squid government™️ to look over the Discovery team (as usual). The hologram route is cooler but also i REALLY like the idea of David, just a regular octoling, falling inlove with Hal, a sea cucumber, a littler guy, a silly goofy, a teensy eepsy, etc. etc. THERES ALSO another version where Hal & Sal are the first android Idols created by Dr Chandra to develop a NEW kinda Funk And Groove or whatevas!!!! They’re both octoling-robots and im still figurin out their style of music but uh ya :]]]]]

THE STANLEY PARABLE

Mainly im just. Inlove with the idea of The Narrator being like a giant Zapfish (maybe THE Great Zapfish) and it all kinda goes to his head. He’s an Idol with his style of music being similar to that of Damp Socks (jazz but make the time signature insane). His producer is Employee 432/Settings Person whose either a jellyfish or sea cucumber (kinda leanin towards jellyfish since theyre the main ones behind the Idol’s development teams but we need more sea cucumbers imo <33 ). Stanley is an inkling who, in his youth, was a part of a professional turf war team. His main weapon was OBVIOUSLY the trislosher. As he got older he retired from turf wars and got just a regular ol office job- until he found himself stuck in recon. The Stanley Parable & Ultra Deluxe is basically The Narrator trying to figure out the perfect game mode & map just intime for the new splatfest while Stanley tries to escape this hell of a map. Im thinking of their backstory. Like maybe Stanley being a part of the Squidbeak Splatoon and the Narrator being the zapfish you save?? But idk if that’ll stick since ill either have to make them both children or Stanley/Agent Three would’ve applied as an adult.

RESIDENT EVIL

Its sorta following an alternative path where Umbrella is a company that helps sponsor and host Turf Wars, and after Team Order wins the final Splatfest for Splatoon 2 Umbrella uses this as ignition to take over the Splatlands. So now we have a dystopian hella swag alterna-like city that’s closed off from the splatlands where shits just fucked. ANEYWAYS im still thinkin bout the idols but i moght be stupid and just makem the Weskers

Gods the VIBES between Kamabo Co. & Aperture Science is SOOO 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞‼️‼️‼️‼️ ya same thing applies, GLaDOS is a giant AI whose blendin up fish people BUT THIS TIME her main goal isnt to goop up the world. Unlike Tartar she LOVES to just sit in her little autistic corner and torture people, so she mainly uses the goop from failed test subjects to go up to the surface and kidnap folks-one of them being an Octoling called Chell, who was on her way to the surface after hearing the Calamari Inkantation. Instead of the Squidbeak Splatoon & Off The Hook accompanying her, she has the help of the train conductor Wheatley (yes hes going to be a hermit crab.) & a trio of musicians who are trying to reach the surface as well. The band consists of Hook (Rick; a salmonling) Line (Fact Core; an octoling) & Sinker (Space Core; an inkling)! GLaDOS takes the form of a long robotic eel using material from the testing stations- her weakpoints in the final battle are actually those god forsaken green crates! Good luck with that buddy! Of course near the end Wheatley betrays you as usual, still workin on the kinks for the main storyline + cave johnson’s whole deal. Once you escape however Hook Line & Sinker will become the new idols for the Splatlands/Inkopolis! They become a fan favorites quickly, their choice of music being a mix of hyperpop & breakcore with an astronomy theme <333 ALSO the other cores are sanitized octolings/inklings/salmonlings that were dragged down into Aperture Labs

JIPPEEE!!! Here an inkling & octoling (Six & Mono) are lost in an underwater city after accidentally boarding the Deep Sea Metro. Its kind of a mix of Octo Expansion & Little Nightmares 2 where they both have to complete various challenges created by the two idols of the city- that being The Lady & Thin Man. Their style of music is similar to Deep Cut but im imagining more bass ??? Like?? Im thinkin of GHOST’s Solaria / Aura vibes, yakno??

Alterna, Part 2

It was terrifying to ride along in a pipe that pushed Mirage along with just wind alone, but in doing so it led them into the second island.

It was strange. Towers reached upward, and buildings were surrounding them. It seemed like a sort of manufacturing facility. 

When they peered at the map on their wristwatch, it read “Safe and Cozy Factory.”. Whatever that meant. 

It was smaller compared to the last island, but there was a lot more going on here, what with kettles and secrets hiding under the ground. 

As Dal, Xïngxì and Biela also popped through the pipe, the radio that Callie leant them began to beep like crazy. Mirage held it up. “Yeah?”

“Agent Three!! Important news!!” Callie exclaimed.

“Stop calling me that....what is it?”

“Okay, so, long story short, Marie and I were worried that gramps was going to wander off or get kidnapped, again, which so happens to be the current situation, so we attached a signal on him so we could easily locate him.” 

“Wha...okay, so what about it?” Mirage asked, shaking their head.

“Sooo...we picked up on his signal! Now we can easily find him!! Bad news is....there’s three signals just like it here.”

“Fantastic. Which one is his?”

“We don’t know. So, uh, this is gonna make you kinda grumpy, but...”

“...I have to check all three of them, don’t I.”

“Yep yep! You got it! You have the brains of an agent, you know that?”

“It’s not that hard to pick up on context clues, Callie...”

“Anyway! One of these signals just happens to be on the island you’re on currently! So get to looking! Agent One, over and out!” the radio crackled as she stopped talking. 

Mirage looked back at the wristwatch to see a pulsing signal has appeared atop one of the towers in the middle. 

Unfortunately, from here, they could see that a giant pile of fuzzy ooze was surrounding the tower. 

“Looks like we’ll need to do more collecting.” Dal scratched his head. “Let’s start with the ground before we check the kettles. We can split up.”

Dal decided that he’d go with Mirage while Xïngxì and Biela would look over toward the right. As they followed Buddy with its sense of smell, Dal struck up a conversation with them. 

“So....how’d you end up falling down here?”

“Um...we were all standing on this big metal plate at the bottom of a crater, and it suddenly opened up.” they replied, shooting the ground in front of Buddy that it was pointing at. “We fell pretty far, it looks like.”

“I see....the plate isn’t supposed to open up like that randomly. It’s controlled by a device. There’s one above ground and below ground.” Dal said, digging through the snow. “Maybe something malfuctioned? Which doesn’t bode well for all of us exactly.”

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Shoot.”

“What does an idol group have to do with an ancient underground ruin?”

“It’s complicated. You see, when I met Xïngxì initially, she had no memories about her past. When Biela came around, they pointed out that Xïngxì isn’t exactly full Octoling. She doesn’t have outer suction cups or an Octoling mask.” he pulled out a capsule. “That comment made her remember something. She came from a place underground.”

“I mean...don’t most Octolings come from the underground? Considering the Great Turf War...”

“She’s not from the Valley or the Canyon. She’s never seen it before. She told us she came from a place where there were no sea creatures, and was inhabited by an ancient species. She said it ended one day when it started snowing.”

“When...it started snowing? I know there’s snow on the ground, but we’re nowhere NEAR the sky.” Mirage tilted their head. 

“But this is the only place that relatively fits the description, so we’ve searching here ever since. Course, we don’t know every single nook and cranny, and it’s impossible to reach that rocket in the middle, even more so now that fur is completely surrounding it.” Dal pointed at the massive rocket and tower in the center of the islands. “We still haven’t awakened any memories yet. But I want to. She’s...m-my friend, you know? I care about her a lot.”

Mirage pondered Dal’s last statement. They never had another person close enough to care about or to care about them like that. But they did have Buddy, and they cared a lot about it. There was a connection there. 

“Anyway, I think that’s all we’re gonna find on the ground for now. Let’s rendezvous with the others and start combing through those kettles. We need more eggs to clear out the fuzz, right?”

“Y-Yeah.” Mirage stood back up and brushed their knees off. Time to get back to level clearing.

Most of the kettles were cleared. There was only one kettle left to go through, but Mirage decided to take a small break. It’s not exactly easy to risk neck and limb when it’s just them and Buddy at it.

They perked up when they heard a squeal coming from the kettle they were yet to clear. “AAAAAAAAAH!! YIKES!! SOMEONE HELP ME, PLEASE!!”

“Is that...S-Sandy?” They get up. They had to cut this break short, it would seem. “C’mon, Buddy!!”

Buddy jumped into the pouch of Mirage’s ink tank and they readied themself to enter. Dal ran to them. “Hey! Where are you going?!”

“I have someone to help. I’ll be right back.”

Once inside, they were immediately greeted by Sandy hiding behind a wall, being pelted by Octocommanders. They could see that she had dropped her Range Blaster in the distance, but it was too dangerous to retrieve it, not with this heavy enemy fire.

Entering through the airlock, they quickly run to her and grab ahold of the stray weapon the ground. “Sandy, catch!”

She looked up to see Mirage ready to throw the blaster, and she nodded, holding out her hands.

Once she caught it, she waited for the Octocommanders to grow tired of their attack, and once they did, she popped out from behind the wall and began attacking one of them. Mirage swam behind her and attacked the other one. 

Once the coast was clear, Sandy ran up to Mirage and gave them the biggest hug possible. “Oh thank you thank you thank you!! Mirage, you saved my life!! I thought I was going to die in here...”

“U-Uh...” They were taken aback by the embrace. They gave her a small pat on her back and squirmed out. “Y-Yeah. Let’s find the goal and get out of here. Oh, make sure to collect as many power eggs as you can find, it’s important.”

“Oh? Okay....let’s go!”

After clearing the level, they popped back out to the overworld, and met up with with Dal, Xïngxì and Biela.

“Omigosh. Mirage. Isn’t that-”

“The super famous idol group Gravitation Pull? Yes. Not important right now. Let’s all count up the amount of power eggs we’ve collected.”

With Sandy barely containing her excitement, they counted the eggs on hand. Everything altogether amounted to a couple thousand power eggs.

“Wow, we have a lot!” Biela giggled, removing their glasses to take a closer look at the pile they’ve accumulated.

“This should be enough to clear out that massive pile surrounding the kettle with the signal. Let’s hope Cuttlefish is there....” Mirage began to walk to the tower with the kettle before being stopped by Sandy grabbing their hand. 

“W-Wait! I’ve got a bad feeling about that kettle....lemme come with you! I have to thank you for saving me, anyway....” She swayed her arms back and forth. 

“I...alright. Just don’t die, okay?” They start walking again, Sandy following. 

“Be careful up there...!” Xïngxì called after them.

Once Mirage and Buddy clear out the giant pile of ooze, they turn to Sandy. “You sure about this?”

“Yeah!! I’ll be here to back you up!!” She pumped her fist. 

Mirage took a deep breath, and then the both of them slipped into the large kettle.

Once Mirage and Sandy entered the airtight chamber, ORCA started up once again and chanted, “WARNING: NO UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL BEYOND THIS POINT.” over and over again.

“Um....that’s not scary...” Sandy whimpered. 

“Cuttlefish might be here. We can’t just leave him behind.”

“You’re right....okay. Let’s go!”

When they super jumped onto the large arena, they took in their large surroundings. Everything in there was almost unrecognizable. Languages they couldn’t understand, structures beyond their comprehension, it was almost overwhelming. 

“HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!”

“I know that voice...” Mirage groaned. 

Frye jumped down from above, pointing at them. “Hey, you! I got here first! And I can SMELL the treasure!! It’s in here! And there’s no way I’m letting either of you get your hands on it!!”

“WAIT, I-IS THAT FRYE?! FROM DEEP CUT?!” Sandy gasped. “What’s she doing here?! What does she mean by treasure, why does she look like she’s about to pummel us?!”

“Oh, a fan! I can tell ya why! Because I AM!” Frye laughed, and pulled out a flute, and hopped on top of what appeared to be an Octostomp model. It spun around on its corner, and Frye balancing on it perfectly. “EELS!! GET OUT HERE!!”

She played a tune with her flute, and in within seconds, hundreds of eels popped out of the Octostomp’s side, mouth, and eyes. Sandy yelped. “She’s an eel charmer!! But that technique....that’s from the Onaga Clan!”

“Wha-?!”

“Pay attention to me, Agent Three! Get ready for the fight of your life!” Frye exclaimed. 

“Look out!” Mirage shouted, and pulled Sandy out of the way of the approaching rotating Octostomp.

“Eep! Wh-what do we do?!”

Frye summoned the eels, and they began charging directly at them.

“AAAAAAAH!” Sandy yelled, and she squeezed her eyes shut as she fired her blaster at them.

They went flying back to Frye, hitting the Octostomp, throwing it off balance slightly. “HEY HEY HEY!! ATTACK THEM, NOT ME!!”

It clicked in Mirage’s head. “That’s it. Sandy, keep attacking the eels! Send every one of them flying at Frye!”

“O-okay!!”

So the two shot every single eel, sending them right back where they came from. Frye completely lost control of the Octostomper model and it spun out, leaving Frye dizzy. “Owwwww....”

Mirage quickly inked the wall and climbed up to Frye, and without hesitation, splat her.

“You did it!!”

“Ughhhhh. You’re good, kid, I’ll give you that. But you haven’t seen the last of Deep Cut!”

She threw a smoke bomb, but it rolled down towards the Octostomp full of eels, sending her and the eels flying into the air. “AAAAACK!!”

“What a graceful exit...” Sandy sighed. “I never though Deep Cut would be so antagonistic.”

“As they told us, they’re bandits. So we’re probably not done fighting them yet.” Mirage grimaced. Their thoughts were interrupted when moving platforms started appearing, extending forward and ending at the arena they were at. They could see a large object obscured by the shadows.

Mirage and Sandy slowly walk onto the platform and stand before the object. A light shines on it, and....

“Are those saws?” 

It was a contraption of some sort, covered in blades, saws, all sorts of sharp objects.

“Could this be the treasure that Frye was looking for?” Sandy asked confusedly. “Because...this does not look like shimmering treasure. This looks like a death trap.”

“Well, I mean. Cuttlefish isn’t here. We have to go back with something. C’mon Sandy, help me lift this out of here. Be careful not to cut yourself on it.”

It took a lot of effort, and pushing, and almost slipping and falling, but they managed to get the giant death machine out of the kettle.

Dal blankly stared at the object, then at the teens, then back at the object. “Is that...Cuttlefish?”

“No, Dal, I don’t think it is.” Xïngxì walked toward them, looking closer at it. “I....Why does this look so familiar...?”

“You remember something?!” Biela jumped. “What did you remember?!”

“It’s...faint....but I recall being....small. There was a man and a woman talking about it, and...I think there were more pieces....ugh....sorry, that’s all I can say about it....” she held her head. “It’s still fuzzy....”

“Don’t push it, okay? One step at a time.” Dal pat her on the back. “We should probably radio in Callie and Marie about the situation. About Cuttlefish not being here and....uh...this thing.”

As Dal switched the radio on, Mirage saw a blur in the corner of their eye. Buddy leaped out of the pocket and ran quickly, completely ignoring its surroundings. 

“Buddy-?!”

Mirage chased after them, but Gravitational Pull was too preoccupied to notice. Worried, Sandy followed them. 

“Mirage, where’s Buddy going?” Sandy asked running alongside them. 

“I don’t know, I-”

They halted movement and froze in place, looking at the sight before them. 

Buddy was hopping up and down excitedly at someone’s feet. 

It was Coquina, the robed lady from Splatsville. 

What was she doing here?!

“Little one, please, go back to Mirage, they need you right now...shush! Go!!” She was trying to wave it away, but Buddy instead clung to her leg. 

“Hey!! What are you doing here?!” Mirage shouted, catching everyone off guard. 

Coquina gently picked Buddy up and set them back on the ground, and worriedly looked toward Mirage. “Forgive me, but this is not the right time...”

She opened the hatch and swam in, being carried away by the draft to the next area. 

Mirage wasn’t sure what her intention was, be it good or bad. 

But they couldn’t let her run off, not again.

Without a word, they bolted after Coquina, picking up Buddy along the way and entering the pipe themself. 

“M-Mirage! Wait for me!!” Sandy stumbled to keep up with the speedy squid.

And so they continued to the next island.

"The New Agents" (1/2)

[Splatsville, Atarime's House, 10:15 a.m.]

It had already been 3 days since Atarime brought Elizabeth to Splatsville, Elizabeth stayed at Atarime's house since she had no other place to go, Atarime's house was a disaster but Elizabeth had no other option

Elizabeth had begun to learn about the life (and language) of the Inklings, Octarians, and the other species that had evolved after the extinction of humans

"Good Morning Atarime! I made you some coffee!" Elizabeth said as she gave Atarime a cup of coffee

"Mmmorning… thanks…" Atarime had just woken up, she took the cup and went to the table to watch the news

On the television screen, a special report of an idol band known as "Sea Galaxy" was shown

"Hello Everybody!"

"We are Sea Galaxy with Cassandra and Ivy! We bring you the freshest news!"

"Oh? Is that the news?" Elizabeth asked, as she sat down to watch the news too

"Oh no! We have terrible news Ivy!" Cassandra said

"Oh? what is it Cassandra?" Ivy asked

On the screen, a special report was shown, the Great Zapfish had disappeared

"The Great Zapfish! The Great Zapfish has disappeared!" Cassandra exclaimed surprised

"Wait really!?" Ivy said

"Does that mean the electricity is going to be failing a lot?" Cassandra said

"I'm afraid so, it will only be a matter of time until the city runs out of electricity…" Ivy replied

"Well… It's time to conserve! Everyone! Remember to turn off the lights and set your air conditioners to a temperature of 32 degrees!" Cassandra explained

"Sigh… We'll have to do that or we'll lose power" Ivy said "If you have any information on the Great Zapfish, Call us!"

"That's all the time we have!"

"Stay cool… and See ya later!" Cassandra and Ivy said together

After the news ended, Atarime turned off the television

"Great Zapfish? what is that? and how does it affect the city's electricity?" Elizabeth asked

"The Great Zapfish uses its electrical energy to power the city, without the Great Zapfish, we'll be without power." Atarime explained "2 days ago it disappeared… but apparently the disappearance was just announced today… when I found out 2 days ago, I started to investigate immediately… but I still can't find the Great Zapfish…"

"That's why after I show you the city, I'm going to "The Crater", I have to continue investigating the disappearance of the Great Zapfish, you can come if you want. Just don't tell anyone about The Crater. It's too dangerous and I don't want anyone else to get involved in this."

[Splatsville, Lobby, 12:15 p.m.]

After giving the news 2 hours ago, Cassandra and Ivy, the Splatsville idols, have just left the lobby after playing some turf wars

"Oh yeah! 8 wins in a row! That was great!" Casandra said as she walked out of the lobby with Ivy onto the streets of Splatsville "What should we do now?"

"Well… we can go get something to eat or we can go back to the studio to practice and-… Cassandra?"

Ivy noticed that Cassandra was looking intently at a sewer, Cassandra always does that after playing turf wars with Ivy, she was curious to know where that sewer leads to

"Hey Ivy… Have you ever wondered where this sewer leads to?"

"Hmm… actually yes, but it sounds dangerous, sometimes I see a Cuttlefish go in there, I wonder where that sewer leads to and-"

"Well, let's see! What if the Great Zapfish is there? Let's go!" Cassandra did not hesitate for a moment and jumped into the sewer

"NO CASSANDRA WAIT!" Ivy also had to enter the sewer to follow Cassandra

What they didn't know is that the Sewer would take them to "The Crater"

[Splatsville Streets, 12:17 p.m.]

"Sigh… Okay, I think I've already shown you around the city, but anyway, I'll give you this map so you know how to get back to my house and you don't lose." Atarime said handing her a small map

"Now, we have to go to the crater, as I need to continue my investigation of the disappearance of the Great Zapfish. Follow me." Atarime explained

"Thank you!" Elizabeth said "This place is amazing! This will be very good for my investigations and-!"

"Elizabeth…" Atarime interrupted Elizabeth

"Oh? Yes?" Elizabeth asked

"Someone entered…"

"Huh? Where?" Elizabeth asked confused

"To the sewer! Someone entered the sewer that leads to the crater!" Atarime pointed to the sewer, someone had entered, Atarime knew that since there was a small drop of pink ink on the metal cover of the sewer

"Sh*t! They must be at the Crater by now! We have to go there immediately! Let's go!" Atarime said

"Um… Atarime?" Elizabeth said

"What?" Atarime was about to enter the sewer but she stopped when Elizabeth called out to her.

"I um… how am I going to…?"

"Ooooh right…." Atarime said, she opened the sewer for Elizabeth to enter "Jump. you'll be fine."

"U-um… Okay?" Elizabeth was not very convinced but anyway, she entered the sewer

After Elizabeth entered, Atarime also entered the sewer

long post ahead- there's a readmore for a reason

deus and the h/v scene

in the world of bilbiopod, there's a force called deus that enables what might be perceived as magical powers. deus is a relatively recent discovery, so history up to about 1979 (ish. take any dates beyond 2000 with a can of salt) remains largely the same.

the powers deus can offer very considerably by individual, family history, environment, and culture. in extended exposure, it can also give physical effects, such as different eyes, ears, or senses.

deus, when in contact with wildlife, can enhance intelligence and promote more humanoid forms (though its debated if the humanoid adaptations are a byproduct of deus, or to compete with humans). this phenomenon is known as deus-prompted anthropomorphism.

after deus was studied enough to be used by the everyman, a vigilante crime-fighting (and crime-committing) scene emerged based on superhero media. this became known as the hero/villain scene, or h/v for short.

h/v can have a number of forms depending on the local area. for some towns, its dark and gritty- other cities, straight out of superfriends. the style of h/v in a certain area is a major point of its cultural identity.

h/v performers are usually not treated as serious criminal situations by police unless there is serious risk to life and limb involved. hostages are arranged and paid for; stolen goods are returned within 4-6 business days; buildings that were going to get demolished or renovated anyways are always the ones that get destroyed in a fight.

cities, towns, and where people live

ruckersville is a small suburb, almost exurb but too developed outside some city in tennessee. it's good for nothing except one little factoid: it has a weird h/v scene, and everybody knows it. home of the bible adventure team, the odd, christian take on a hero group has garnered minor national attention (and some major attention by a group of bankaran bandits...)

ruckersville's name is taken from the name of the town that the bibleman adventure took place in, i think it was mentioned in breaking the bonds of disobedience?

hikara is a city off the west end of colorado, known affectionately as hi-color, colorado by hikarans. it earned this nickname through the town's pride and joy, turf war- a sport based loosely off paintball where the objective is to cover the ground in as much paint as possible. as any resident of the glimmering city will tell you, it all started with a professor, his cat, and a coupla' paintballers...

hikara is the bibliopod au's equivalent to greater inkopolis, and its name comes from inkopolis's japanese name.

octo valley is the unofficial name for an unincorporated community outside hikara. it was nicknamed such after octavio (takowasa) and the rest of northwest hikara's heroes and villains were forced to flee when there was a fight for territorial rights. this event became known as the great turf war.

octo valley is just... octo valley. but with less floating things.

bankara is in east utah, a hop, skip and a jump across the rocky mountains from its sister city of hikara. it shares this tradition of turf war with hikara, though none of the glitz and glamor. this is the city of chaos, after all, only experiencing its economic boom recently thanks to a series of highly notable top-level turf war events.

bankara is this au's version of splatsville, also taken from splatsville's japanese name.

south of bankara, beneath the suspiciously sandy crater, is the former hero hideout of alterna. during a defense systems test, it collapsed, killing everyone inside. this event was deeply traumatic for the bankara and hikara communities, rendering their respective h/v scenes null and void.

important families

the peterson family- miles peterson and associated wife and children. miles isn't that important i'd just thought i'd mention him (the family dynamics are mainly just to make the inkling/octarian conflict work)

the cuttlefish family- craig cuttlefish, callie cuttlefish, marie cuttlefish, and technically captain 3, agent 3, agent 4 and agent 8. craig is the grandfather of callie and marie, the agents are ... adopted? question mark? i dont know whats happening with them tbh. craig used to be a hero of hikara under the name captain cuttlefish of the squidbeak splatoon- his feud with octavio led to the great turf war. his granddaughters, callie and marie went on to become pop idols, but still retained their gramp's teachings on how to be a hero. they are armed. callie and marie eventually started a talent agency, the squidbeak talent company, and associated record label, inkling rekords. they continue under the name of the new squidbeak splatoon, perusing important duties local heroes nor law enforcement will tackle (but only as a side hustle).

the takowasa family- octavio takowasa (dj ocatvio), marina iida takowasa (dj_hyperfresh), asher akkoro takowasa. octavio was an old villain and craig's arch-rival, though he began to regret the life he led and wanted to give a better living to his grandchildren through music. marina, the older sibling, ran away on her own due to lack of parental support (they wanted to keep villainy going, thinking it was the family legacy) asher, the younger sibling, left to go to college. this was a partial lie, she just applied and then left to start a band.

fyi- asher is an oc, and i don't think marina is related to octavio in canon (and asher isn't related to octavio outside of this au). the reason the octarians were adapted into a family is to make the inkling vs. octarian feud more understandable in a human au.

the houzuki family- nacre houzuki, baroque houzuki, pearl houzuki, "emperor" copal houzuki, "prinz" chiton houzuki. the houzuki family got their riches through owning a cruise line, houzuksea, and expanded into deep sea exploration after they got more successful. while plenty of the family have deus, only copal used his in any h/v scene before turning to turf war. nacre is the mother, baroque the father, and the siblings in order of oldest to youngest are pearl, copal, and chiton.

War Never Changes - Prologue

The books that the citadel scribes create now list that the defining moment of the universe was the Great War of 2077. Dwindling petroleum reserves led to a series of regional wars for resource control, and economies began to fold as nations were left without this vital lifeline. Alternative sources of energy were explored, leading to the maturation of nuclear fission technology, as well as various innovations in solar and hydroelectric power, and even nuclear fusion, but none of these were sufficient to serve the global population’s ever growing needs.

With the available reserves of crude oil in the world constantly diminishing, the communist government of the People’s Republic of China declared war on the United States, invading Alaska for the few remaining sources of oil there. The Sino-American War raged for eleven years, eventually culminating in a nuclear exchange between China and the United States. Both nations had built up huge stockpiles of nuclear weapons, and the mutual attack drew in enemies and allies from all around the world, igniting every hatred forged throughout the century-long cold war. Although the conflict lasted only two hours, the destruction it brought was staggering and complete. More energy was released in the early moments of the exchange than in all previous global conflicts combined. The global nuclear conflict came to be known and the “Great War”.

The world that remained was harsh and unforgiving. Ninety years after the Great War, humanity struggled to survive. One the surface, bandits and organized gangs fought over the crumbling remains of once-great cities, and mutants prowled the irradiated wastes. Underground, a fortunate few enjoyed the relative safety and comfort of the Vaults, designed before the war, with the proclaimed purpose of protecting residents and their descendants from the nuclear annihilation. Some planned to keep the world out, others sought to connect with and repopulate the outside. Wherever humanity survived, it was under constant threat by ravenous mutants, rogue machines, vicious raiders, and all manner of hostile mutant creatures.

The collapse of global civilization made it impossible to ascertain the full extent of the damage brought by the nuclear bombs. As viewed from orbit, there were clear signs of global catastrophe, and much of the world’s oceans were tinted green by radiation. The Great War’s enduring legacy was the radiation that spread in its wake. Many of the plants and animals that survived the nuclear fire were killed by the irradiated rain that fell a week later. Of those that survived, many were mutated by 2080.

The American mainland was reduced to wasteland. Most major American cities, with a few exceptions such as Pittsburgh and Las Vegas, were razed by the bombs. Even the surviving cities were reduced to hellish ruin and society rapidly disintegrated. Although the Vaults were never intended to preserve the entire American population, enough of their residents and technology survived for them to jump start civilization when they opened.

New California benefited the most from these early openings. Vaults that opened as early as 2083 and as late as 2142 proceeded to create and raise successful settlements and whole cities. The New California Republic would be founded in 2186 and would control all of New California and it’s surrounding territories just short of a century later.

The Mojave Wasteland was another incubator of civilization. This was due in no small part to Robert House’s preparations; his secret missile defense systems ensured that Las Vegas and the surrounding desert were hit by fewer bombs than anywhere else in the region and as time passed the city was rebuilt through the combined efforts of House, the local tribes, and the residents of Vault 21.

In the East, the Capital Wasteland and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Boston were left surprisingly intact. Although unable to compete with the more advanced societies of the West they still managed to create a well established trade caravan network, regional radio broadcasts and even a large water purification plant.

Despite the numerous Vault locations in the East and the idea that New York City - the largest city on the East Coast - would have an extreme boon of undiscovered technology, everyone knew to steer clear of the city proper. Between the two bombs that landed nearby - one that fell off course and decimated New Jersey, and the other that left a glowing crater upstate - the constant turf war between the gangs of the boroughs, the weird cult in the sewers, and the historical battle between the Angels and the Demons no one with any sort of sense of self preservation went anywhere near the concrete jungle.

All except one woman, whether she had a poor survival instinct or had put all of her skill points into the category was up for debate. She was one of a handful of people who were known to come and go between not only the boroughs unscathed, but also the state entirely. Her title was known throughout the Commonwealth and the Capital Wasteland as the Transporter, capable and willing to move both people and items of interest. She moved silently and competently through buildings and ruins and ransacked slums. She spoke confidently with Super Mutants and Ghouls alike, it was how she had heard of the whispers of the coming uprising. The thing that would put to rest the bickering between The Queens and The Kings, that would demolish Duke and his boys at the Docks, that would send New York City crashing into the sewers and level the Cult of the Rat. She prepared and stockpiled while keeping her ears open to the whispers and rumors. New York was falling and she refused to go crashing down with it.

The man stepped from the cryo-chamber steam fogging out of the base as the cold air hit the warm African air, his brown hair still perfectly framing his face, old cuts and bruises still bright and fresh looking on his pale flesh despite being two years old. He stumbled, knees unsteady, into his friend’s waiting hands. The shaking man looked up with cold blue eyes into ones equally blue but so much warmer and sure of their intent.

“Steve?” the brunette rasped, scrunching his eyes closed at the dark skinned girl that rushed up to them and started running a scanner over his body.

“I’m here, Buck. You’re okay.” The blonde, Steve, replied. “Everything is going to be okay.”

  Oahu | Hawaii – A 7 Day Travel Itinerary

  Hawaii brings to mind beautiful beaches, brightly coloured fish, surfing and luaus. Although all of those things are true, there is so much more to this beautiful island nation, and there is a reason so many people visit again and again. 

Oahu is the third largest island in Hawaii, as well as the most popular for visitors. It is currently home to over a million people, and gets many visitors from across the world, especially from the mainland U.S, Australia, Japan and Korea. Hawaii has its own airline, a full service provider called ‘Hawaiian Airlines’, which flies between Hawaii and North America, Asia and the South Pacific. There are also many other airlines that fly direct to Honolulu from across the world, giving you plenty of options to find cheap flights to Hawaii and start planning your own dream vacation in Hawaii. 

We recommend staying in Waikiki so you can be where all the action is, though if you want a more relaxing vibe, head up to the North Shore. We also suggest hiring a car, which makes it much easier to get to all the best places, and there are plenty of cheap and convenient options both at the airport and in Honolulu. 

Here are some suggestions for spending a week in the Hawaiian island of Oahu!

    Day 1 – Waikiki

Open up your eyes on your first day in paradise, and get ready to ease into island life with a relaxing wander around beautiful Waikiki. Depending on where you are staying, make your way down to the waterfront and walk along the famous beach, have a swim, or take advantage of one of the many kiosks that offer beach lounges, stand up paddle boards or surf boards for hire. Make sure you keep an eye out for fish, turtles and even seals, who are known to frequent the beach (apparently they don’t mind the crowds!). 

Once you’re full of sun and sea (never!), venture one street in to Kalakaua Avenue, which has all the shopping, markets, bars and restaurants anyone could need. This bustling street is the hub of Waikiki, and is often busy even late at night. Take your time exploring, visit one of the famous ‘ABC Stores’, say hello to the statue of Duke Paoa Kahanamoku (the man responsible for bringing surfing to the world) and enjoy the relaxed vibes of the open shopping centres, markets, restaurants and bars dotted along the main strip.

  At the end of a long day exploring, relax with a drink under the big banyan tree at the iconic Moana Surfrider hotel (we recommend the ‘Lava Flow’). 

    Day 2 – Day trip to Kualoa Ranch

Time for some adventure! Head off in your car across the island to Kualoa Ranch (if you don’t have a car, they also offer hotel pick-up), a family owned ranch that offers a range of amazing and fun activities for kids, grown-ups and everyone in between. Visitors can opt for a movie-sites tour (the ranch has been the setting for many Hollywood films including Jumanji, Jurassic Park, King Kong and 50 First Dates), an ATV tour, horse riding, a beach cruise or an adventure jeep tour.

  There are several packages that combine different tours and activities, and it is best to book early to get the best availability. Most packages also include a buffet lunch, and there is a great gift shop on site too, as well as several small exhibitions to peruse while you wait for your next activity. 

If you’re not too exhausted after all the fun, have dinner at the amazing Duke’s restaurant (named after the man himself, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku) in Waikiki – make sure you book in advance for this one. There is often live music, and an incredible menu featuring the most delicious ‘surf n’ turf’ around.

Day 3 –  North Shore

Get away from the bustle of Waikiki and head north…to the North Shore! Known for it’s incredible surf break, the beautiful North Shore is laid back and comprises a bunch of towns spread along the coast, with Haleiwa being the main hub for tourists. Along the way, stop in at the Dole Pineapple Plantation which – along with many, many pineapple plants – features a fun maze, and is also a great place to try delicious ‘Dole Whip’; the dairy-free pineapple gelato (which is so yummy, Disneyland have it at their parks!).  

Haleiwa itself is full of cool stores and quirky cafes, and don’t forget to try the infamous shaved ice at Matsumoto’s (they have around 40 different flavours). If you want to check out the biggest waves, venture to the nearby Waimea Bay or Sunset Beach, home to the famous ‘Pipeline’ surfing competitions – though we recommend getting lessons before trying them yourself. 

While you’re up that way, you can also visit the Turtle Bay Luxury Resort, which features in the film ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and has a much calmer beach to swim at, if you feel like a dip.

  And don’t forget to try the famous garlic shrimp! Found only at the food trucks scattered throughout the North Shore, these delicious morsels are sought after by locals and tourists alike. 

    Day 4 – Get cultural at the Polynesian Cultural Centre 

Time to get cultural! Rated as the number one tourist attraction on Oahu, the Polynesian Cultural Centre is about an hours drive from Waikiki (though they also provide hotel pick-ups, if you don’t have a car), but an absolute must-visit. Visitors can explore the culture, history and lifestyle of six Pacific Island nations, with each represented by their own ‘island’, where visitors can meet locals, see shows and engage in cultural activities – even paddle a canoe! There is plenty of fun to be had by everyone, and once all the different islands have been explored, grab a seat, relax and enjoy the evening shows, or get involved in a traditional luau. 

    If you choose to do your Luau elsewhere, there are many options for you to choose from – just make sure you choose one! A luau is a really fun and entertaining way to have a traditional Hawaiian experience…and we haven’t even mentioned the amazing food! Definitely an event for your stretchy pants. 

    Day 5 – Hanunama Bay

Up early today for a visit to beautiful Hanauma Bay, where you are surrounded by vibrant ocean life as soon as you enter the water. 

The beach isn’t far from Waikiki (only around 15 minutes by car), and visitors can easily get a bus or even an Uber to the entrance if you don’t have a car. There are also tours that offer hotel pick-up and include snorkel equipment, if you don’t want to buy or hire your own. We recommend getting there around 8am, when it opens, as it can get very busy later in the day.

  Upon arrival, you will be asked to watch a reef safety video before entering the beach, which takes roughly 10 minutes and teaches visitors about how to keep themselves and the reef safe while snorkelling. Once that is done, head down the hill to the sand, pick a spot and get your snorkel gear ready (you can bring your own, or hire it at the beach). There is an incredible display of brightly coloured fish, turtles, octopus and even seals in the bay, and it is easy to spend hours with your head under the water. Make sure you wear (reef-safe) sunscreen!

Once you’re done making friends with the fishies, stop by the nearby Hālona Blowhole, where a natural formation causes sea water to blow metres into the air; check out the beautiful Waimānalo Beach, with its pristine sand and turquoise water; and continue on to the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden. Many visitors will know it from it’s ‘insta-famous’ entrance, with it’s long driveway and mountain backdrop, but it is also full of gorgeous native trees, flowers and plants and well worth a visit. It’s a perfect way to relax after all that swimming, and it’s a great idea to bring a picnic (or grab snacks on the way) and eat amongst the banyans.

    Day 6 – Pearl Harbour 

No visit to Honolulu would be complete without stopping by Pearl Harbour. Only around 20 minutes drive from Waikiki (parking is free), there are also several tours available which offer hotel pick-up and include a guide for the day. The site became famous in 1941, when the naval base was subjected to a surprise bomb attack by the Japanese, which was the catalyst for the U.S to enter World War 2. The remnants of several ships, submarines and aircraft set the backdrop for visitors to absorb the events and history of the site and the military operations undertaken there. 

There are five main historic sites to visit, including the U.S.S Arizona Memorial, the Aviation Museum, the Battleship Missouri, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park and more. Visitors can choose to visit one, a few or all (totally up to you) of the sites, and there are plenty of interactive activities, films, exhibits and and actual battleships, planes and submarines to experience. 

    If you’re not exhausted by your jaunt into history, once you’re finished at Pearl Harbour head over to the nearby Ala Moana Centre, Waikiki’s premier, open-air shopping centre. With all the major department stores and brands as well as smaller boutique stores, this beautiful centre also has plenty of restaurants, entertainment venues and even a cinema. 

Don’t miss a visit to the quirky, underground Japanese section, with a hawker-style food court, market-style stores, karaoke and arcade games, making you feel like you have somehow stepped straight into Tokyo.

Day 7 – Hike up Diamond Head

Start your final day off with a visit to an iconic Honolulu landmark – Diamond Head. An extinct volcanic crater that looms over Waikiki, visitors can hike up the side of the cone and are rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views at the top. The hike can be reached from Waikiki either by walking (its around a 2.5 mile walk from the main street), or you can drive there and park at the entrance. It can be difficult in parts, but the entire path is paved and it is quite an easy – and very doable – hike, even with kids.

  At the top, visitors can see all across Waikiki beach, as well as inside the crater itself. Take a moment to catch your breath, grab a photo and admire the amazing views before heading back down (don’t worry, the walk down is much easier). At the bottom, if you didn’t get a chance earlier, you can try ‘Dole Whip’ from one of the food trucks, and there are also several other options for hungry and thirsty hikers, like fresh pineapple juice or ice cream. 

However, we recommend skipping the food trucks and heading straight to Leonards Bakery (you’ve earned it) only a few miles away, to try the famous ‘Malasadas’ which are traditional Portugese doughnuts (without a hole), filled with a range of delicious flavours which change weekly. The store (which retains its vintage fifties charm) has been an institution in Honolulu since 1953, and now people are known to queue down the street for these delicious puffs of pastry. 

Once you’ve eaten your fill, we recommend doing some last-minute shopping at the Waikele Premium Outlets, which offer a bunch of top fashion, homewares and beauty brands at significantly discounted prices. And we mean significantly discounted – sometimes up to 90% off. It’s a great place to pick up some last minute gifts, or treats for yourself (go on, you’re still on holiday).
