i love when some fictional character is confirmed to be not-straight and certain people will rush to post about how "oh i'm not homophobic i have no problem with gay people i even have a gay friend but this character being confirmed not straight pisses me off so much i mean why do they have to not be straight like what reason could there be i mean this just feels like pandering like it's just why do we need real-life politics in this story like UGH WHY does this character HAVE to be GAY it just MAKES ME ANGRY but please don't call me homophobic i don't hate gay people i swear me getting furious over a fictional character not being straight is just a perfectly logical non-homophobic reaction i SWEAR"

An Arbitrary Collection of Book Recommendations
(put together for a friend out of SFF I've read over the last couple of years)
Cli-Fi
Tusks of Extinction and/or The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler. They’re pretty different books in a lot of ways – one is a novel about discovering a certain species of squid in the Pacific might have developed symbolic language and writing, the other a novella about a de-extinction initiative to restore mammoths to the Siberian taiga – but they share a pretty huge overlap in setting, tone and themes. Specifically, a deep and passionate preoccupation with animal conservation (and a rather despairing perspective on it), as well as a fascination with transhumanism and how technology can affect the nature of consciousness. Mountain is his first work, and far more substantial, but I’d call it a bit of a noble failure in achieving what it tries for. Tusks is much more limited and contained, but manages what it’s going for.
A Half-Built Garden by Ruthanna Emrys. In a post-post-apocalyptic world that’s just about figured out how to rebuild itself from the climate disasters of the 21st century (but that’s still very much a work in progress), aliens descend from the sky and make First Contact. They’re a symbiotic civilization, and they’re overjoyed at the chance to welcome a third species into their little interstellar community – and consider it a mission of mercy besides, since every other species they’ve ever encountered destroyed themselves and their planet before escaping it. Awkwardly, our heroine and her whole society are actually pretty invested in Earth and the restoration thereof – and worried that a) the alien’s rescue effort might not care about their opinions and b) that other interest groups on earth might be more willing to give the hyper-advanced space-dwelling aliens the answers they want to hear. Basically 100% sociological worldbuilding and political intrigue, so take that as you will.
Throwback Sci Fi
Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky is possibly the only thing I’ve read published in decades to take the old cliche of ‘this generic-seeming fantasy world is actually the wreckage of a ruined space age civilization, and ‘magic’ and ‘monsters’ are the remnants of the technology’ and play it entirely straight. Specifically, it’s a two-POV novella, where half the story is told from the perspective of a runaway princess beseeching the ancient wizard who helped found her dynasty for help against a magical threat, and half is from the perspective form the last surviving member of a xeno-anthropology mission woken out of stasis by the consequences of the last time he broke the Prime Directive knocking on his ship tower door and asking for help. Generally just incredible fun.
Downbelow Station by C. J. Cherryh is, I think, the only thing on this list written before the turn of the millennium. It’s proper space opera, about a habitat orbiting an immensely valuable living world that’s the lynchpin of logistics for the functionally rogue Earth Fleet’s attempt to hold off or defeat rebelling and somewhat alien colonies further out. The plot is honestly hard to summarize, except that it captures the feel of being history better than very nearly any other spec fic I’ve ever read – a massive cast, none of them with a clear idea of what’s going on, clashing and contradictory agendas, random chance and communications delays playing key roles, lots of messy ending, not a single world-shaking heroes or satanic masterminds deforming the shape of things with their narrative gravity to be seen. Somewhat dated, but it all very impressively well done.
Pulpy Gay Urban Fantasy Period Piece Detective Stories Where Angels Play a Prominent Role
A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark stars Fatma el-Sha’arawi, the youngest woman working for the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities in Cairo, a couple of decades after magic returned to the world and entirely derailed the course of Victorian imperialism. There’s djinn and angels and crocodile gods, and also an impossible murder that needs solving! The mystery isn’t exactly intellectually taxing, but this is a very fun tropey whodunnit whose finale involves a giant robot.
Even Though I Knew The End by C. L. Polk is significantly more restrained and grounded in its urban fantasy. It’s early 20th century Chicago, and a PI is doing one last job to top off the nest egg she’s leaving her girlfriend before the debt on her deal with the devil comes due. By what may or may not be coincidence, she stumbles across a particularly gruesome crime scene – and is offered a deal to earn back her soul by solving the mystery behind it. Very noir detective, with a setting that just oozes care and research and a satisfyingly tight plot.
High Concept Stuff That Loves Playing around With Format and the Idea of Narratives
Radiance by Catherynne M. Valente is a story about a famous documentarian vanishing on shoot amid mysterious and suspicious circumstances, as told by the recovered scraps of the footage she was filming, and different drafts of her (famous director) father’s attempt to dramatize the events as a memorial to her. It’s set in a solar system where every planet is habitable and most were colonized in the 19th century, and culturally humanity coasts on in an eternal Belle Epoque and (more importantly) Golden Age of Hollywood. Something like half the book is written as scripts and transcripts. This description should by now either have sold you or put you off entirely.
The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez is the only classic-style epic fantasy on this list, I believe? The emperor and his three demigod sons hold subjugated in terror, but things are changing. The emperor, terrified of death, has ordered a great fleet assembled to carry him across the sea in pursuit of immortality. The day before he sets out on his grand pilgrimage to the coast, a guilt-ridden guard helps the goddess of the moon escape her binding beneath the palace. From there, things spiral rapidly out of anyone’s control. The story’s told through two or three (depending( different layers of narrative framing devices, and has immense amounts of fun playing with perspective and format and ideas about storytelling and legacy.
I Couldn’t Think of Any Categories That Included More Than One of These
All The Names They Used For God by Anjali Sachdeva is a collection of short stories, and probably the most literary thing on this list? The stories range wildly across setting and genre, but are each more or less about the intrusion of the numinous or transcendent or divine into a world that cracks and breaks trying to contain it. It is very easily the most artistically coherent short story collection I’ve ever read, which I found pretty fascinating to read – but honestly I’m mostly just including this on the strength of Killer of Kings, a story about an angel sent down to be John Milton’s muse as he writes Paradise Lost which is probably one of the best things I read last year period.
Last Exit by Max Gladstone – the Three Parts Dead and How You Lose the Time War guy – could be described as a deconstruction of ‘a bunch of teenagers/college kids discover magic and quest to save the world!’ stories, but honestly I’d say that obscures more than it reveals. Still, the story is set with that having happened a decade in the past, and the kids in question have thoroughly fucked up. Zelda, the protagonist, is kept from suicide by survivor’s guilt as much as anything, and now travels across America working poverty jobs and sleeping in her car as she hunts the monsters leaking in through the edges of a country rotting at the seams. Then there’s a monster growing in the cracks of the liberty bell, an in putting it down she gets a vision of someone she thought was dead is just trapped – or maybe changed. So it’s time to get the gang together again and save the world! This one’s hard to rec without spoiling a lot, but the prose and characterization are all just sublime. Oddly in conversation with the whole Delta Green cosmic horror monster hunting subgenre for a story with nothing to do with Lovecraft.
Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh is a story about aliens destroying the earth, and growing up in the pseudo-fascist asteroid survivalist compound of the last bits of the human military that never surrendered. It stars a heroine whose genuinely indoctrinated for the first chunk of the book and just deeply endearing terrible and awful to interact with, and also has a plot that’s effectively impossible to describe without spoiling the big twist at the end of the first act. Possibly the only book I read last year which I actively wish was longer – which is both compliment and genuine complaint, for the record, the ending’s a bit messy. Still, genuinely meaty Big Ideas space opera with very well-done characterization and a plot that does hold together.

Bats usually keep an eye on large gatherings in Gotham, but in this case Bruce literally can't pay them enough to do their jobs.
---
In Gotham, large gatherings are always risky business. With half a dozen big name rogues with half a dozen screws loose, things can get out of hand FAST.
So yes, forgive Bruce if he likes having at least two bats or birds on the scene when people group together and make themselves easy targets.
His rag-tag group of children, adult or otherwise, usually agree with him. But in this case-
"I'm not going out of my way to help anti-gay protestors," Tim says before Bruce even let's himself think about which of his partners in anti crime he would like at his back. "I'm the one that green-lit the Wayne Enterprises gay agenda that they're protesting."
"That's... Fair."
And it was! Bruce was hardly going to force his bisexual son to save people that would tear him down if given half the chance. He'd demanded far too selflessness of Tim already.
It was just... No one else was volunteering either.
---
Dick, alerted by Tim about the group of anti-gay protestors planning their little event on Facebook, takes one look at Bruce approaching and shakes his head.
"I've heard what they said about my baby brother," he cautions before Bruce can say anything.
Tim, out and secure in his identity, doesn't care what any civilians have to say about him. Dick, deeply angry and protective, cares very much what slander people sling at his little brother.
Bruce, understanding that maybe his eldest was getting better about managing his anger, but deeply unwilling to test his resolve, nods and backs away.
---
Damian is his next choice, though he doesn't hold very high hopes for him either.
"Father, I will not be responsible for the safety of fools willingly endangering themselves," Damian says, reasonably and Bruce is glad to hear it. He has a whole speech about protecting civilians even if they act in defiance of their own safety. It's blown to pieces when Damian explains further. "I've already taken the liberty of inviting Jon and his paramour to heckle them."
"No metas in Gotham," Bruce says before his brain can catch up to his mouth. "This is already a tense situation and-"
"No metas in Gotham," Damian repeats, pitching his voice lower as he mocks his father. "What do you propose Duke is, Father?"
This is an argument he isn't willing to have. Not right now. He puts a pin in it and reaches out to Jon to politely request that he doesn't make an appearance at the protest. Jon concedes in exchange for his permission to come to Gotham's pride event next week. Bruce gives it under the stipulation that Jon and Jay let him give them a full primer on Gotham rogues and how to counter them.
---
Stephanie is somehow warned in advance and texts him before he can reach out to her.
"sorry not sorry, if doctors in Texas can choose to let people die then so can I. ask someone else to help w your homophobe problem"
Bruce wants to point out that is a gross simplification of the fraught political state of Texas. He also wants to point out that they are nowhere near Texas.
He wonders about the feasibility of sponsoring abortion access and trans healthcare in another state if only because it is GENUINELY funny when bigots with talk shows get into a tizzy over Brucie Wayne.
He lets the thought lie for the moment.
---
Duke hears him out, at least, before telling him that he's really sorry, B, but he's gonna be sick that day. It's all very sad, has he tried to talk to Jason?
---
Cass looks at him. He looks at her. They both know she won't be his backup.
---
He hates to say it, but Jason WAS his last choice in this situation. Not for lack of trust or faith in his abilities, but because-
"I'm asking Aunt Harley to have Poison Ivy start a pollen induced gay orgy," he says bluntly when Bruce asks if Jason would be busy on the day of the protest.
"At the-"
"At Wayne Enterprises, for the protest. Yes. Stay away if you value your heterosexuality, old man."
Bruce, remembering his college days and the types of things he's gotten up to in his own time, doesn't correct his son. Revealing that his father was intimately familiar with gay sex isn't a conversation Bruce ever wanted to have with Jason. Or anyone else.
Bruce, wisely, lets the police handle the protest.

why pjo's portrayal of the greek gods is fucked up and how it's affected perceptions surrounding ancient Greece.
*breaks down the door to your inbox with an axe*
start talking now oh my god I want to hear your hot take so bad. I've been interested in religious studies (primarily the Hellenistic and early Roman religious atmosphere (of course acknowledging that the word religion is post-Enlightenment and conceives of supernatural belief as a subjective individual belief, which is inconsistent with how supernatural matters were dealt with in the Ancient world) and how they intersect with early Christianity and proto-Christianity) and I've been fascinated with the Greek gods and I need your hot take on why their portrayal is wrong and leads to incorrect assumptions about Ancient Greece.
oh you bet your bottom dollar i will talk about this. true to the post from which this originated, i will prep no material and all this is off the top of my head so don't quote me!
If you follow my Greek mythology sideblog, you'll know i am unequivocally a Zeus defender. Now I can make a million posts about Zeus alone but I will take a more holistic approach on the gods in general and the perception of Ancient Greece.
The West has been obsessed with Ancient Greece for centuries: the culture, philosophy, history, mythology, mathematical and scientific advancements, and much more. Now it's one thing to take interest in a country's history or a historical era; it is completely another to claim it as your own and make it an ideal state of life to achieve, because if you know literally anything about Ancient Greece, it was anything but. What I'm trying to say here is that Ancient Greek culture has been commodified, glorified, rewritten, and reclaimed by the West when it was never theirs to do so. I've often seen this sentiment expressed by Greeks about their homeland: "The history comes first, the people second." I think a prime modern example of this mindset was when same-sex marriage was legalised in Greece, which was a huge step forward for an Orthodox country with an extensive history of homophobia, but people outside of Greece began making jokes of Greece "returning to their own values" (referring to Ancient Greek practices of pederasty which is hugely problematic and not at all representative of any gay rights if you know what it entails) and people excited to "finally hold lesbian weddings in Lesbos" (signifying the West's perception of Greece as simply a tourist hotspot and not a country with an intricate history and culture). In short, Greece is already unfairly used for the West's agenda of glorification and attempts to build itself a culture that frankly isn't theirs at all.
Now, how does this involve pjo? A lot, my friends, a fucking lot. The publication and popularity of the Percy Jackson series has simply exacerbated all the aforementioned issues in this post. First off, the worldbuilding on which The Lightning Thief relied and the rest of the series ultimately holds is that "Olympus moves with the centre of Western power", which is just. Wow. There are a million things wrong with this concept that would need its own post, so I recommend this article called The Whitening Thief that essentially explains the white supremacy of it all. If you do not want to read the full article, the main premise is that the Percy Jackson series equates Westernism with civilisation and that without it there was "chaos and darkness", which as Paule describes it, is "sipping at a pretty racist cocktail".
note: I have realised how aggressively off-topic this is to the original statement I made, I'm getting there, I promise (although I did warn you it was something I could talk on for hours with little material)
Let's finally delve into the depiction of Greek gods in Percy Jackson. I'll actually start on a bit of a positive note that apart from the weird (for lack of a better term) comparisons of Hades to Adolf Hitler, the original Percy Jackson and the Olympians had some okay characterisation of the gods (I have some reservations about the goddesses on which I will elaborate later). They're prideful and neglectful parents (the myths actually contradict that latter part but I digress) but each with their own complexities and concerns. To use Zeus as an example because he's actually the god who falls short the most in terms of consistent characterisation in my opinion, he lets Percy live in TLT "for the sake of peace in [his] family", indicating a care and sense of duty for Olympus and for his fellow gods, and while he lets his pride and paranoia get the better of him at times, he is shown as a serious authority figure and someone who's trying to keep his realm together, and such characteristics wouldn't be too far off from his mythical counterpart.
But as the series progresses, either Rick got lazy or he attempted to further capitalise his work to make it more palpable, he turns the gods into caricatures by excessively inflating one characteristic they may have into their entire personalities. Returning to Zeus, his paranoia is amplified to an absurd extent that one can simply not fathom why the gods would be the better option than the Titans. As I said initially, he had bouts of paranoia that would be almost normal for someone with such a powerful position, but this is completely derailing any connection with his mythological counterpart, he may as well be an OC with the same name and title as him. To use other gods as an example because I promised a holistic approach and I have seemed to only talk about Zeus (sorry!), the writing of the goddesses Hera, Artemis, Aphrodite, and Athena is simply misogynistic. I'm sorry, there is no other way I can find myself to describe it. Typically feminine goddesses Hera and Aphrodite are extremely demonised and condemned for their flaky and vain attitude; Hera is the evil stepmother archetype and Aphrodite ultimately becomes weak and useless. The "virgin" (quotations referring to Athena) goddesses Artemis and Athena also don't seem to extend past superficial, unoriginal characteristics like being a vehement man-hater who kicked out two sapphics from the Hunt and a goddess who Rick stops at nothing to render her a horrible parent and person (using the Roman myth of Medusa, exaggerating her prideful nature, etc) respectively. And you cannot tell me they're not misogynistic portrayals because just a few minutes on pjo tiktok will show you just how many times Hera is referred to as a bitch (keep my wife's name out of your fucking mouth!!). Then there is TOA and COTG, which makes me want to cry just thinking about Zeus' portrayal there (yes we're going back there). The god who was consistently thought of as a gracious, protective saviour of the people in Ancient Greece (full list of epithets of Zeus, read at your leisure) is an abusive autocratic tyrant?
To go back onto the topic, how do Riordan's works affect the overall perception of Ancient Greece? Well, as I said before, it contributes to the white supremacist view of Ancient Greece as the epitome of civilisation and the glorification of the era, but it also turns Ancient Greece into a fandom to an extreme extent. Now, obviously, I'm not talking about people with a healthy obsession with Ancient Greek history and Mythology (myself included) who like to engage in content about it. I'm talking about people who claim Ancient Greece as an extension of Western, mostly American culture, and ultimately engage in a form of cultural appropriation that strips Greeks of their own history and narrative. This includes writing 'feminist' retellings of Greek myths, taking Riordan's (inaccurate) readings of the mythology as indisputable fact, and removing the myths from their historical and cultural context. People forget that much of these myths were stories written for entertainment and take them as a sort of Hellenic Bible (which delves into the Christianisation of Greek Mythology but that's a whole other post). In short, Westerners think they can do whatever the fuck they want with Greek mythology and Greek gods because they think it's theirs with which to play around, ultimately ignoring the country, history, and the culture from which they actually originate, and it's thanks to Rick Riordan that this attitude has blown up to an insane extent.
*sighs* Thank you for coming to my TedTalk and I seriously admire you if you made it this far.

Hidden Agenda: Zo Experienced The Knowing
I was tagged by @respectthepetty this morning in her post about Zo and how much damage Puen did to him. At the end of the post she mentioned that Zo probably Knew who he was this whole time. I want to talk about the timing of this reveal, what it means for this kind of show, and how I feel about it.
I have admittedly been struggling with this show. I think Dunk is often a little hard for me to read, and I often wish that he hadn’t been given such an internal character to play. However, I think the team may be using that to their advantage to cloud our ability to read Zo.
Zo began the series in a debate with Joke about how people need to be honest about their feelings before going into a relationship with someone, and he’s been nervous to approach Nita. We’ve also seen him showing dismay about possibly being a bad mentor to Pok, along with his general reticence to Joke’s advances. I think I’ve decided that I’m okay with the show recontextualizing much of what we’ve seen before, but I don’t generally like it. Sure, it rewards those who pay close attention, but there’s too much going on for me to do an extensive rewatch to see those scenes again in a new light. However, I like it for queer reasons.
What fascinates me about our sudden reread of Zo as a Known Gay (placeholder term I use for everyone; Zo hasn’t identified himself; let me have fun) is we watched Zo go through this during their Chiang Khan trip when he realized Pok was seeing Jeng. At that time I only read Zo as concerned with being read as homophobic by his junior who couldn’t come out to him, but now it’s even sadder because Zo was not only concerned about being seen as homophobic he was also not being seen as a member of the community.
The constant concern he expresses is that he’ll make people uncomfortable. He’s afraid to approach Nita, and has a huge panic when a not-date doesn’t exactly go over well with her. I thought this was part of his confused feelings for Joke, but it’s also about how Zo doesn’t trust himself in romance because of what Puen did. I feel especially sad for Zo because Puen messed him up so badly that he can’t even pursue an opposite-sex romance with confidence either. I felt like a part of Zo hoped that things would be easier if there wasn’t a gay component to the romance and yet he’s still feeling weird and uncertain.
As for whether Zo suffered The Knowing, I am not sure how far back Zo Knew. I can’t tell from his interactions with his mom, but it’s clear from his scenes with Puen and the matter-of-fact way he describes what happened to Joke that he had put a lot of thought into his feelings for Puen at the time. So, because of the way Puen’s actions continue to impact Zo, he goes on the board.
I'm at least relieved that as @justafriend-ql pointed out in her reblog that confirming that Puen did like him, and it wasn't all in Zo's head, allowed him to finally enjoy a moment with a guy he likes and who clearly likes him.

About the Transgender Agenda…
When it comes to evil, few things beat the mental abuse and physical mutilation of children and youngsters that we are witnessing. It is evil to the core and there are no two ways about it.
Mentally messing up a child by making them reject the most fundamental of human considerations; our biological denomination, is sick and twisted and demonic.
The Transgender Agenda is not about gays, lesbians or bisexuals, who have existed since time immemorial, it’s not about their rights or freedoms, which we have all come to accept to a greater or lesser degree (at least in Western societies), it’s about twisting, transforming and defiling humanity itself. And there is a purpose behind it.
Transgenderism is the first step towards Transhumanism, that is why it’s being shoved down our throats through the media, academia, entertainment, big tech, big pharma and the whole medical establishment.
The plan is to make us lose our identity altogether in order to make us open to the idea of becoming cyborgs, or as they call it, humans 2.0.
One must understand that the ultimate goal of the evil powers that rule the world, is to desecrate God’s creation and as his masterpiece, humanity is the ultimate prize.
The only way that they can gain ultimate control over us is to destroy our original, biological composition and to sever our connection to the divine by morphing us into technological/organic hybrids.
That is the Fourth Industrial Revolution that Klaus Schwab proudly preaches around the world with the help of his loyal counsellor, Yuval Noah Harari.
Transgenderism is the mechanism that is allowing them to not only transform the concept of human identity from male and female to a myriad of identity absurdities, it’s also allowing them to change the legal framework, the medical assistance, the social perception and even the language, that will soon give them a free pathway to Transhumanism.
They want to transfer human function, interaction and procreation away from God and into the hands of Big Tech and Big Pharma for ultimate and absolute control.
Let’s not fall prey to the provocations, the gimmicks and the grotesque show of depravation and violence, let’s wisen up and call them out for what they are trying to do:- destroy humanity as God created it.
These crazy, radical, cult-like transgender youngsters are the result of an evil psyop, the dispensable pawns used to advance a greater agenda on a chess board where check mate is a society of sexless, soulless cyborgs under total control.
If we have learned anything from swallowing red pill after red pill, it must be that we must look further than the puppets and the pawns and stand up against the puppet masters and the chess players.
It’s time to put up a joint, concerted front against the ongoing psychological and physical abuse that forms part of the ultimate plan to destroy us.
Let’s speak up, reject it, protect our children and NEVER turn our backs to our God given nature, that is the only thing that can save us.

Context
There are some things that have been on my mind lately that I feel the need to talk about, because I think it is helpful for fans to have a broader context on certain topics.
Warning, this is a political, depressing topic.
Disclaimer: Everything that I say here is a reflection only of my own views and understanding of the topics discussed, and cannot be taken as anything beyond that.
As we saw tonight, the drama that was thought to begin airing has been postponed. People are wondering why dramas do not seem to be getting promoted properly, and air dates are not scheduled in advance.
There is a bit of buzz building about all of this, and I'm seeing more and more talk about it. It appears that the government is beginning another round of crackdowns on the entertainment industry.
The rumor is that all dramas that were to air are being put on hold and will have to face censorship review again, those that are airing are not allowed to be promoted, and any drama that contains traffic stars will not be aired. The government is likely going to be coming out with more rules and restrictions around all of this.
The drama we were hoping to see is not the only one to have been put on hold. This has been happening for a while now, and other dramas that were expected to air have also been postponed.
There is some speculation that this has at least partly been prompted by a scandal involving a popular comedian who made a joke in his routine talking about some stray dogs that he adopted, saying that they had a military work ethic in chasing squirrels. He used a phrase that the leader used to refer to the army, and he and the company he worked for were fined the equivalent of $2 million US for it, and the guy has essentially been canceled and his contract terminated.
Edit: there appears to be some confirmation that this is at least somewhat related to the comedian, because apparently everybody from the company that the comedian worked with has been blacklisted and all of the dramas, projects and variety shows they are a part of are deleting any scenes involving those artists. If that is true, that is the single harshest consequence I have ever seen for one person's supposed misstep.
This has led to a lot more rhetoric around the entertainment industry's obligation to promote core socialist values and embody righteous, state-approved thought, action and interaction.
In other news, the last remaining major LGBTQ support organization in Beijing was closed down last week. The shutdown came shortly after Taiwan announced legislation that will enable gay people full adoption rights. Given the tension between China and Taiwan right now, the timing was interesting.
I've long believed that a big part of why authoritarian regimes always seek to conquer and assimilate democratic, progressive neighbors that share a similar language and culture to them is because such nations pose a threat to their authoritarian power. They cannot tolerate their own population getting any ideas about what to expect in terms of rights and freedoms, and nothing gives people ideas like watching 'cousins' getting something they don't have.
Progressive neighbors like that can become breeding grounds for dissent and even revolution. Political action and protests that happen in one region can rapidly spread to others. We saw that with the Arab Spring.
And it does seem that China is preparing for war. Whether it's just posturing, or more than that, remains to be seen.
One of the big ways that all nations - not just authoritarian ones - prepare for war is through ideological and social engineering, ensuring that the population is kept in line with the government's agenda. So another big crackdown on the entertainment industry would not come as a surprise at this point in time. Especially not given the extreme ideological approach of this particular leader.
There are other signs that China might be preparing for war. The military situation in the region has been ratcheting up more and more every week. Military personnel and equipment are being moved into position and the military activity in the area has become more aggressive.
The government has been dealing very harshly with a shortage of grain as well, which - while it's a problem that has been brewing for a while and would be a problem whether there was a war or not - the extreme brutality with which they have been converting land to grow rice, corn, etc. seems to speak to a sense of urgency. Could it be that they are preparing for the inevitable sanctions that a war would bring?
Whether they go to war or whether they are simply shoring up their power, it is clear that this government is extremely serious - in major life and death ways - about what people do, say and think. They are not afraid to put force behind that effort, or to cut down anything that stands in their way (if you don't believe me, read the article about the grain shortage - warning, it is extremely disturbing, especially the videos).
I'm not saying all of this to stress people out or upset anyone. I just think that it's worthwhile for people to understand the context in which those we love are operating. It is helpful for us to understand that a great deal of what happens to them has absolutely nothing to do with them, nor is it personal to them in any way.
I know fans tend to get really stressed out and worried about why projects aren't moving forward in the way we expect, and I think it is valuable for everyone to remember there are far bigger forces at work, and while it is upsetting, there is really nothing that anyone can do to change the situation.
There are a lot of fans who do not like thinking about politics, and that is totally understandable. However, there is a price to be paid for sticking our head in the sand. If we do not pay attention to what is happening politically, we are missing important context that might help us better understand - and therefore hopefully better cope with - the various setbacks we are inevitably going to encounter as fans who are following this industry.
An important point that I want to close on: these are my views as a western outsider, and they in no way reflect anything that has come from following the stars that I follow. My political views and values come from my own experience, research and background, not from my idols.
I want to remind all fans to be exceptionally careful about how we talk about our politics. Never, ever bring their names into a discussion of politics at this point in time, it is simply not safe to do so. Our views are our own, and should never be connected to them, for their own safety.
Alongside that, I want to remind everyone that they come from a completely different world from us, and their views likely reflect that. It would be naive for us to think that they share our politics in the major ways we would hope.
They are not at liberty to discuss their personal views, but if they were to discuss their views, my hope would be that they would come down very strongly on the side of the views they are supposed to hold, for their own safety.

Absolute man child crazy shit under the cut. This is why I don't make male friends or let men get close to me and regret it every fucking time I give even the most bare minimum, specially acceptable in a professional setting type cordiality
Let me preface this by saying I have been OPENLY gay around school. My interactions with this guy could be described as "casual friend/classmate colleague" shit. Like we have a few shared interests (anime) but like what art student doesn't. I've never flirted w this dude, I've never ha more than short convos with him irl or text.
My friend's roommate is suddenly movinout, I had resigned w my place but we were like fuck it let's find a subletter so I can move in w u!!! So I've been saying that I'm looking for a subletter BECAUSE I want to move in w my friend! And this guy who's another art grad is like "I get kicked out of student housing in at the end of May, I'm potentially interested" and he eventually decided to. So I'm trying to get this show in the road and get fees payed and shit squared away cuz my friend has a deadline, she's SOL and needs to know if she needs to start looking for a place. Radio silence for a couple days.
Fast forward to when I'm walking to my car after watching TV w a friend and I see this insane rambling from this fucking shit idiot man child motherfucker
Also: this guy is pushing *40*
Tumblr media
Like literally what the fuck is this, I am not in love w u, I enver wanted to move in or have a cat together, I was saying *I* wanted to get *my own* fucking cat when I move places!!! How fu ked are you in the head where that was twisted into "we are in love and moving in and getting a cat together tee hee!!!"
I can be as dykey as possible, make it clear I am not interested in men, and somehow they will find to make their mental image of me revolve around them. Loser fucking socially maladjusted men are the biggest fucking waste of breath and space. They do not see women as seperate beings w their own thoughts and feelings, they think of them as solutions for problems, and means to which they fulfill some personal agenda. I am suck of being barraged for years and years by inappropriate, uncomfortable advances that violate my boundaries and that paint me as some bad guy for not claiming responsibility for THEIR own fucking feelings and THEIR underdeveloped social skills and brains. KYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
