CLEARING UP AND EXPLAINING SOME THINGS THAT PEOPLE TEND TO MISUNDERSTAND ABOUT GRAY, JUVIA, AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP

(warning: spoilers. It's also gonna be some LONG ass shit lmao. Sorry for typos in advance)

I heard a lot of people hating Gruvia for things that they misunderstood (or just straight-up dismiss/ignore) about the ship, and so I thought I'd clear up and explain some of those here because I just think all this hate towards the ship is unnecessary especially when most of their reasons of why they hate the ship aren't really valid or reasonable.. I mean, yeah, you can dislike and hate it all you want, we all have different preferences. But the level of hate Gruvia gets for reasons that are already proven false and untrue is just unbelievable. Like people saying Gray is somehow "controlled" by Juvia, or that Gray has "Stockholm syndrome" when Juvia never even tried to kidnap Gray... And worse is when people start to spread misinformation and slander the ship, spreading hate and negativity towards the ship for reasons that are again, proven to be untrue.

[ GRAY'S BIG TSUNDERE ASS ]

Gruvia is not one-sided, it's just that Gray's a big frickin Tsundere and that he refuses to show affection, so he may come off as cold to her sometimes. Although later on he realized that he should accept his feelings for Juvia rather than pushing her away and trying to run away from his own feelings before he regrets it, so now he has become less of a Tsundere and is trying to become a better person for her (but still a Tsundere lmao)

[ GRAY'S PAST AND CHILDHOOD TRAUMA ]

Gray does not dislike nor hate Juvia, even from the very beginning after they just met. Hell, even right after their fight in their first meeting. After their first actual meeting, Gray even helped her, saved her, made her happy, and even smiled with her. He wouldn't have done all that if he disliked her. He wouldn't have said he has no problem with Juvia joining the guild if he disliked her. He wouldn't hang around with Juvia inside and even outside the guild if he disliked her. He wouldn't have worried and felt bad about her not passing the exam of he disliked her. He wouldn't have carried her running away from danger even though she already said she can run away by herself if he disliked her. He wouldn't have agreed to going out with Juvia, which clearly meant as a date to her, if he disliked her. He wouldn't have lived with her for half a year if he disliked her. He would have agreed with Juvia leaving him alone if he disliked her, but instead he hugged her, thanked her, and cried on her arms. He wouldn't have sacrificed himself for her safety if he disliked her.... I can go on and on for hours with this honestly. But the point is, he clearly doesn't dislike nor hate Juvia. He even said he's grateful for having Juvia always by his side.

It's just he didn't wanna get too attached to her. He has always thought ever since as a child that it's his responsibility / fault whenever someone he cares for dies. He blames himself for it, consciously or unconsciously, and puts the burden upon himself. He feels like whenever he gets too attached to someone, they would leave him and when that happens it'll be his fault. That's the reason why he seemed cold to her sometimes, it's that he doesn't wanna get too attached to her, afraid that she would just leave him like the others...

"I'm going to avenge my mother and father!"

"I wasn't... able to do anything..."

"It's your fault, Gray." (Lyon)

"It's my fault that Ul died 10 years ago"

"No matter how much time pass, it won't change the fact that it's my fault Ul's dead!"

"I lost both mother and daughter..."

Him trying to push Juvia away by being cold to her is most likely something he did unconsciously, since he himself wasn't really sure about his feelings for her and having the fear of loosing his loved ones before, at least when it was just starting. But as we already know, his attempt of trying to not get too attached to her wasn't successful. It didn't have any chance of being successful to begin with since the reason why he didn't want to get too attached to her and why he had developed the fear of loosing her in the first place is because he's already attached to her from the beginning. He was the one to save her, worries about her a lot, cares for her, protects her, and spends a lot of his time with her, which made him even more attached to her. Which explains his expression at that one recent official Gruvia art which some fans didn't like... He looks like he feels like he shouldn't fall in love with Juvia, but he really just can't help it.

And when it actually almost happened, when Juvia almost killed herself for him, it finally became clear to him what he feels about her, and he realized that it was stupid and cowardly for him to try and avoid Juvia and his very own feelings, because of his damned childhood trauma. He could've lost all the chances he had with her forever, with all those efforts she spent on him all be put in vain. And now that he realized this, that doesn't make the fear of loosing her disappear. It can't be erased just like that. But instead of avoiding, hiding, and keeping his feelings like before, he's trying to improve and be a better person for her that can protect her no matter what.

[ THE LOVE POTION THINGY IS NOT CANON ]

The episode about Juvia buying potions made her look bad for some fans. It was not in the Manga. It's not canon. The part where Lucy expected Natsu to confess (which was seen in the same episode) is canon, since it is from the Manga. But the part where Juvia buys love potion and uses it to try and get Gray is not in that chapter, nor is it in any chapter in the manga, meaning it's not canon and is an anime-only part. Well personally I found it quite funny, but some fans really hated Juvia on that one.

[ JUVIA IS NOT A YANDERE B*TCH ]

I saw a lot of people referring to Juvia as a "yandere" and portraying Juvia as such.. Juvia is NOT a yandere girl who will kill you if you reject her and shit. If anything, she's the opposite. She can NEVER hurt Gray. She'd rather kill herself than hurt Gray. When she thinks she's making Gray uncomfortable, she immediately apologizes. When she thought she disrespected Ul's death anniversary by saying it should be a happy day for Gray because it's their anniversary (she didn't know it was Ul's death anniversary at first), she felt very sorry and disappointed in herself. The reason she couldn't approach him at the start was because she didn't want to make him and his friends uncomfortable, and because she isn't used to socializing with other people (add the fight with Phantom Lord which caused the guild a lot of trouble, plus how people always disliked and pushed Juvia away). Basically, Juvia has, or at least had social anxiety. At first, she couldn't approach Gray because she was extremely nervous. Juvia also wasn't as bold as she is now towards Gray at the start, she was shy and was shown to even stutter a lot trying to express her thoughts to Gray and the guild members. Yeah, she becomes extremely mad when someone threatens Gray's life, but that's just like Natsu being mad when someone threatens to kill Lucy. Or Gray being mad when someone threatens Erza's life. Or Mira being mad when someone threatens her siblings lives.. But Juvia didn't even actually kill Meredy (the one who did threaten to kill Gray), but instead even became friends with her! A yandere would do the total opposite. I think that if Gray ever rejects her, she wouldn't even be mad at him, but would probably be very depressed and think a lot about what she did wrong.. She was even willing to give up on him in Tartaros Arc, when she had to kill Gray's father, she thought she doesn't deserve to love him anymore after what she did so she was willing to finally give up and leave him alone... When yanderes are the kind of people who'd go as far as to kill every other person close to you just so they can have you for themselves...

But Gray himself does not want her to leave. Even though he seems annoyed with how Juvia is clingy towards him and all that, in reality, he doesn't want her to leave. He hugs her and says "thank you" to Juvia for being the one to "kill" Silver, saving his father and finally letting his father rest in peace, so that Gray didn't have to kill his father himself. Silver himself wanted to die and even thanked Juvia for that so I don't really understand why people hate her because of it. And if Gray disliked or hated Juvia, he definitely would have agreed about her leaving him alone.

The main reason why Juvia acts like this is because she's trying to show her love for others that she wasn't able to show before, since she was always rejected, avoided, disliked, and even hated by others. She's always pushed away by others. So now that someone (Gray) didn't push her away and showed care for her, she didn't want to miss the opportunity of finally feeling loved and being able to share her love.

And Gray, together with the guild, accepted her. She wants to feel loved and accepted, so she's trying all her best to not be seen as someone gloomy or unlikable that others used to think she is. She does things that she thinks would make them happy, she does things that she thinks would make them accept her. But since she never really knew how to interact with other people before she joined the guild, and the people she used to be with were toxic as hell, she comes off as awkward sometimes. But she's growing, together with Gray and the guild, she's growing.

[ THE LOVE RIVAL" THING IS JUST FOR COMIC RELIEF AND WAS NEVER SERIOUS ]

She may say "Love Rival!!" when someone's getting close to Gray, but it's only put as comic relief and she was not actually serious about it. Even Lucy, the one whom she always calls her "rival", never took it seriously. If Lucy did, she would have never approached Gray ever again, or hated Juvia for it. If Juvia was really serious about her so called "threats", they would have kicked her out of the guild long ago. Plus, she may act like that, but in reality, she cares for and is willing to sacrifice for her friends, including Lucy. And Lucy herself knows that. Even Gray knows when she's just joking around and even called her out for joking at serious times.

It's sad that people say that they are concerned about Gray and Juvia "forcing" herself into him when they don't really actually think about and consider what Gray is actually feeling towards her.. Gray loves her, she loves Gray. Just let them be happy. Gray has lost too much, at least let him enjoy being with Juvia.

Anyways, I'M NOT FORCING YOU TO LIKE THE SHIP, WE ALL HAVE PREFERENCES. But I'm just trying to make you understand both characters, their relationship and development a little more. Well, this is mainly just from my perspective tho. Especially with all the hate this ship gets and how misunderstood both characters are and the things they do. And if you got to this part, thanks for reading all of this lmao this is my first time posting something like this in Tumblr, I hope it wasn't that confusing.

Fairy Tail Weddings - Gray and Juvia

Since it’s February the month of love I decided that for the month I would write down how the weddings of my favorite Fairy Tail couples would go. If you don’t like what you read that’s fine, no one says you have to but don’t be mean about it.

Gray and Juvia would choose to get married between late Winter and early Spring. A time where ice and rain meet although Juvia is determined that they do not get married on a day that might have a chance of rain as she does not want her wedding to be gloomy. Gray's groomsmen would be Natsu and Lyon. Juvia's bridesmaids would be Lucy, Erza, and Meredy. Natsu would be the best man and Lucy would be the maid of honor.

Juvia's dress would be a modest one as she often dresses modestly but at the same time it would also be able to complement her figure, it would be snow white colored and lace because snow is basically what you get when ice and rain mix. Her hair would be down in waves but braided with flowers to remind her that the rain is one of the reasons why flowers can still grow on earth and she would wear a lace veil to match the dress.

Gray literally has to practice not stripping in public for the wedding and Gajeel would probably pull Gray aside to have a man to man talk with him considering (As far as I know) that they're pretty much the most important men in Juvia's life. So he would say something along the lines of:

"If you hurt her I'll kill you and make it look like an accident."

Lyon would tell Juvia that despite his feelings for her, he accepts her choice and hopes that she's happy. But he would probably still ask her if she had any second thoughts or would even consider a relationship with him which would lead to Gray attacking him in jealous rage. Later Natsu would crack a joke about Gray getting cold feet and leaving her at the alter which scares Juvia and results in Erza punching him for being an idiot.

Wedding day comes and Juvia is overcome with joy but also terrified that Gray felt pressured into this and may end up backing out. But her bridesmaids all assure her that Gray loves her and wouldn't do something like that. However it seems they could be wrong when the wedding starts, Gray is late, and Natsu disappears after delivering the tuxes. Lucy, Erza, and Gajeel look for him but they with hold his absence from Juvia to prevent her from flooding the chapel. When they fail to locate him and Juvia wonders what's taking so long, they're about to break the bad news to her when Natsu arrives at the last minute to tell them he and Gray are back.

Both Erza and Gajeel are prepared to murder Gray but he assures them that he wasn't running out on Juvia, he only had to get something very important and that he brought Natsu along because it was apart of his duties as the best man. The wedding starts, Gajeel is the one who walks Juvia down the isle and gives her away. Lyon gets emotional, wondering what Gray did to deserve Juvia though he's comforted by Meredy. Gray and Juvia say their vows and it's revealed that the important thing he had to retrieve were his mother and father's wedding rings, feeling that even though his parents aren't here to see them married they'll in a way bless their marriage. Juvia cries tears of joy and all the guests have umbrellas in case of a monsoon but Juvia manages to keep everyone else dry.

At the reception Gray and Juvia dance together as husband and wife even though he's never been fond of dancing (insert Cancer incident). Then they switch off with Gajeel and Juvia doing the father-daughter dance and Erza and Gray doing the mother-son dance since Gajeel has been Juvia's longest male "family" member and Erza is Gray's longest female "family" member who's still alive. Juvia tosses the bouquet and Erza catches it like a lioness pouncing on an antelope. Gray tosses the garter and Lyon catches it.

Suddenly it starts raining despite it not supposed to and Juvia is upset because now she thinks her special day will be gloomy. Gray responds by grabbing an umbrella, carrying her outside in the rain, and telling her that he's glad it rained on their wedding day because from now on he wants the rain to remind her of this happy day which marks that they'll officially be together for the rest of their lives instead of how gloomy and lonely her life once was. It ends with them kissing passionately in the rain and going to Gray's hometown for their honeymoon however as soon as they're in the carriage, Gray has already stripped down.

Why I Don't Forgive Mashima over Graytear

Does that title seem hyperbolic?

I mean, Mashima’s done some crazy things within the series, especially with ships. But to not forgive him over one? Especially Graytear? This sounds like the kind of thing I’d make fun of if you switch “Graytear“ with “Nalu“.

And yet, here we are. On Thanksgiving of all days of the year.

Somehow, I’ve managed to avoid not shipping something that doesn’t end up becoming canon in most stories I get into. About the only one I can think of where a ship I’m really gunning for doesn’t happen is Fairy Tail. But I’d like to think I’ve been handling the ship discourse fairly well over the past few years. I don’t think that seeing a ship I don’t like happen is enough to create this response in me.

In fact, this post isn’t about romance. It’s not about how Mashima missed on obvious moments to make two characters I like fall in love and have kids. In a word, it’s about disappointment. Namely, my overwhelming disappointment regarding the canon handling of Gray and Ultear’s relationship.

Before I go further, it's worth mentioning two things.

First, this isn't a strictly analytical post. I'm not entirely sure how much of what I say in this post is tinged by my own disappointment with how what happened in canon played out. None of this is to say that Mashima is a bad writer for doing this, even as I obviously disagree with how he did this. Though I'd like to believe that I'm not the only one who feels the way I do about how Graytear played out in canon, similar to the views I share in many of my other posts.

Second, this post doesn't necessarily take the perspective that Gray and Ultear should have been a romantic couple. Full disclosure, Graytear is my favorite romantic ship for both Gray and Ultear. However, I'm not making the argument that Graytear should have happened in a romantic sense in this post. (That might be another rant for another day.) For now, I'm taking the perspective that their relationship should have been furthered beyond what we got in canon.

Part I: The Unfulfilled Promise of a Bright Future

All ships that don't happen represent missed opportunities. That's not always a bad thing. (No one's arguing Mashima gypped us out of the opportunity for a pedophilic ship by not making Mest and Wendy a thing.) However, it's often disappointing to see that there could have been a great ship idea that wasn't capitalized on by a writer. It's one of the big reasons fanfiction is fun to read and write. (Still feels weird to consider myself a fanfic writer.)

While I don't have too many examples of this for my own ships outside of Fairy Tail, the big one I look to is Zutara not happening in Avatar: The Last Airbender. I'm not personally big on the shipping discourse of the ATLA world, but living with someone who is a big Zutara shipper means I've seen and heard a lot of arguments that make it hard for me to say that there was nothing to the ship. For better or worse, Zutara does represent a lost opportunity for a ship involving one of the most peculiar (I mean this in a good way) relationship dynamics in the series.

Graytear represents a few lost opportunities. The big one involves the obvious connection between each of them and Ur. Gray's life was changed for the better because Ur sacrificed herself for him. Ultear's life, up to their meeting in Tenrou Island, was made worse when Ur gave her up, ironically to save her life. While Gray grew to have a positive view of Ur, Ultear came to have a negative view of her.

Weirdly enough, that doesn't mean they didn't want Ur back in their life. Part of the reason Gray goes to Fairy Tail is to find wizards that would be able to deal with Iced Shell. Ultear's reasoning behind learning Arc of Time is so she would be able to find a time where she could be with her mother. Despite their different views on Ur, they both wanted something similar - a world where they can live with Ur again.

Of course, it's worth mentioning that we know that Gray has a more complete perspective on Ur. Ultear didn't know why Ur gave her up in the first place, took on Gray and Lyon as disciples, or never came back for her. Ultear thought these things happened because Ur didn't want her anymore. In reality, they happened despite Ur wanting and loving Ultear.

During her fight with Gray, she learns that she had the wrong idea about Ur. She gave her up to deal with the balance of magic inside of her. She didn't come back for her because she was told that she died. And, despite having Lyon and Gray as pupils, she still loved her daughter, even though she thought she was dead.

In chapter 43, there's a flashback to a conversation between Lyon and Ur. Lyon questions if he was supposed to replace Ultear. Ur rejects the notion saying that he was never supposed to be a replacement for her. Pity this likely happened before Ur took on Gray and neither of them knew of this moment. However, they both know enough after their fight to come to that conclusion.

During Gray and Ultear’s fight there’s a really cool call back to Gray and Ur’s relationship. When Ur goes to cast Iced Shell, her last words to Gray are words that many Graytear fans may be familiar with: “I will seal your darkness away!“ In its context, Ur is speaking about sealing away Deliora and ending his worries about the beast. Of course, as we all know, that wasn’t a complete sealing and Gray’s arc involves him dealing with this trauma for basically the rest of the series.

But, when Gray is fighting Ultear, he makes the same promise to her. He says that he will seal he darkness away. By this point, we know that Ultear doesn’t have the best view of Ur. However, his hope is to get her to see her mother in a new light. And, by the end of their fight, she realizes her errors and comes to have a newfound appreciation of her mother.

What this could have led into would be the start of a relationship similar to Gray's relationship with Lyon. They're not going to meet each other every arc and I doubt Ultear ever would have joined Fairy Tail. But Gray and Ultear would have much more positive interactions now because they've dealt with much of their Ur baggage. Maybe they could have come have a better, deeper relationship.

Two things happened by the end of the arc that made sure this wasn't going to be the case right away.

The first is Ultear almost killing herself. Of course, Meredy stops her from going through with it. However, she fully intended to make up for her terrible actions regarding Meredy by dying. This wasn't the best sign of Ultear potentially trying to live on and change her ways. But, we'll get to that soon enough.

The second is the seven-year time skip. Gray stayed on the island and missed out on what happened with the world during the seven years. This wasn't particularly in their control and it's not as if their relationship was the only one affected by the time skip. However, it cut a lot of the potential for the relationship to further on, especially considering that, with the formation of Crime Sorciere, their possibilities to interact greatly diminished as Ultear is now actively avoiding being captured.

These things don't necessarily mean that Graytear wasn't going to go anywhere. Up to that point in the series, similar things could have been said about Jerza and they've ended up in a decent enough spot. Of course, that was dependent on Mashima's handling of their relationship during the Grand Magic Games. However you feel about the ship, it's undeniable that this arc set up their relationship dynamic for the rest of the series. Mashima used later arcs to further their relationship, but it’s been built off what happened during the Grand Magic Games arc.

As for Graytear, well...

Part II: The Grand Magic Games Arc Didn't Further Their Relationship

I don't need to say that the Grand Magic Games wasn't as kind to Graytear, as I'm sure anyone who is a fan of Fairy Tail could probably guess that. However, it's worth talking about things other than the one thing we're all thinking about. (Might as well save the best for last.)

Gray and Ultear hardly interact in this arc. Crime Sorciere and the training group Gray is with meet in chapter 263. They go their separate ways in the next chapter. They hardly talk to each other, much less do we see development in their relationship.

I'm not expecting Gray to propose to Ultear. I'd like them to have one interaction at this point in the series that shows something that can positively change in their relationship. Jellal and Erza have half of a chapter to themselves and Juvia and Meredy have their moments with each other.

When Gray mentions Ultear and Meredy potentially being their enemies, she gives an interesting response. She says that she's incapable of making up for the things that she's done throughout her life. In forming Crime Sorciere, she's trying to make up for that by helping as many people as she can.

That sounds positive, right? Ultear recognizes that she’s done bad things in the past and is trying to make up for it now. However, it doesn't seem that Ultear has fully gotten past that old mentality that death is the only way to seek redemption. It doesn’t seem as though she fully believes that she’s a better person because of what she’s been doing.

In essence, her darkness hasn’t been fully sealed away.

And when she leaves with the rest of Crime Sorciere, she tells Erza to take care of Gray. Now, there are a few different ways to read this, depending on how you feel about the various relationships in Fairy Tail. However, it's hard to read this as Ultear expecting to see Gray many more times past that moment.

In fact, they'll only meet two more times past that moment.

For the rest of the series.

To be perfectly clear, this is because of the events of the Last Ages. (And, don’t worry, we’re almost there.) However, Gray and Ultear only interact a total of three times after the Tenrou arc. And one of them is only their technical meeting later in Sun Village. Depending on how you see it, that doesn't count. That Mashima didn't do much else before Last Ages shouldn't distract from the fact that he didn't do much before it happened.

The only other canon interaction between Gray and Ultear past that point in the series is their final meeting at the end of the Grand Magic Games. This barely counts as an interaction as is. Gray recognizes what happened to Ultear and is encouraged not to do anything because of it. I plan on talking about the meaning behind this soon, but consider that, for many people, this will be the last interaction between Gray and his master's daughter. Including their meeting at the beginning of the arc and their two different interactions on Tenrou Island, they only meet each other four times across the entire series.

It's not even as if we don't see Ultear after she cast the Last Ages spell. As I'll get to, she shows up in different forms to a few different people. However, Gray will never see or interact with Ultear past Sun Village and will never see her in person after the Grand Magic Games. No one talks about seeing her again to Gray and he doesn't get the explanation others received regarding her existence. (Though, to be fair, his moment happened shortly after her situation started.)

Well, it looks like we're already there, so let's talk about...

Part III: Last Ages - A Spell Made to Piss Me, Specifically, Off

Yes, I'm devoting an entire section in this post to the spell, Last Ages.

Considering most of the discussion about Last Ages as a spell is positive (up until it’s shown to not actually kill Ultear), I kind of have to.

This moment is held up by many to be an important inspiring moment for Ultear. This is the moment where she's truly able to come to terms with herself. She finds that her life is only worth enough to turn time back by one minute. But, by a twist of dramatic irony, that one minute was enough to save many different lives from death. Most importantly, her sacrifice was able to save the life of Gray after he was attacked by the mini dragons.

Okay, where do I start?

Ultear didn't need to sacrifice herself to stop the Eclipse dragons. Obviously, saving Gray's life, in addition to several other characters, is important and invaluable to how the series could go on from that point. But their lives were not relevant to the success of the Eclipse battle. Natsu’s was and his actions weren't affected by the Last Ages spell. If you think that’s hyperobole, consider that in the anime version of “Sin and Sacrifice”, their fight is quite literally the only thing that happens exactly the same before Last Ages take effect and after it.

I’d like to run a bit of a thought experiment. Imagine if Ultear did nothing. We can deal with the potential ramifications of Gray and so many other characters potentially dying as they come up or change that so they were always going to survive. But as far as getting rid of the Eclipse Dragons and Future Rogue? Natsu would still fight Shadow Rogue, break the Eclipse Gate with his bones, and the future visitors would all disappear anyway.

In fact, that version of events fits the same set of logic that using Last Ages requires of Ultear. Ultear feels that she's irreparably bad because her go-to idea to kill present-day Rogue proves that she can't truly reform. And after going through with the Last Ages spell, she initially believes her efforts to be worthless. If she were to find out that Future Rogue and the Eclipse dragons were defeated without killing present Rogue, that would put her in a position to realize she still has a ways to go before she can change her way of thinking. However, as the person who saved Natsu, she'd ultimately have a positive stake in how the events transpired. In essence, by saving one person, she was able to save everyone else.

Now, if Ultear was simply a one-off case of Mashima having a villain who has a longing for death to be the way they redeem themselves than I might not have as much of a problem with how things transpired. As it stands, she's on the same team with someone who had the same issue in Jellal. Earlier in this same arc, Jellal still had doubts about whether he should continue to live in light of his past actions. He's ultimately brought to think that he should live because of his conversation with Erza.

By the way, she’s also been with Meredy for even longer than that. She’s seen how she’s turned from an emotionless puppet to her own mage. Heck, Meredy should have harbored resentment and hatred over being the one to cause her family and village’s demise. However, she was the one to convince Ultear to keep living as long as she did.

Then there’s Gray himself. As callous as Iced Shell jokes end up being from fans, Gray never seemed to remove the technique from the table of possible abilities to pull from. He even went on to learn a stronger form of the spell. But every time he's gone to use it, he was prevented from doing so because of his friends. Each time, the lesson is that he isn't supposed to recklessly sacrifice his own life, even if it might save the people he cares about.

And it doesn’t stop with them. Fairy Tail is full of characters who start out as serious villains you’d think would never change or be good, have a change of heart, and do good for the world. They join Fairy Tail or other guilds, change their ways, and become better people than they were when we first met them. The arc this happens in involves that on an individual level with Flare and a group level with Sabertooth.

Are you starting to understand why I have a problem with how this played out?

Many things done by Hiro Mashima are the product of his indecision and "free-form" writing regarding Fairy Tail. There are plenty of moments that show where Mashima wasn't exactly fully sold on the thing he'd end up doing just yet. If you read Mashima talk about his writing process, you almost get the sense that he isn't entirely sure of everything he's doing from chapter to chapter.

To be clear, this isn’t to say he doesn’t plan ahead. As he has explained it, while some details are solid in his head, others are a bit more flexible than others. For example, in the last arc, Mashima wasn’t exactly sure about the nature of Irene and Erza’s relationship. Looking back, you can see how that waffling affects how their story is told.

The decision to cast Last Ages doesn't strike me as that kind of move. This feels like an intentional writing decision by Mashima. In essence, he's decided not to go against the grain of characters he's previously written and even some he'd go on to write to have Ultear leave the series as a narrative force.

Or so you'd think.

Part IV: The Post-Last Ages Age

A lot has been said about Ultear's returns to relevance. When she was a part of the battle against DiMaria, I remember people talking about if her return was a cheapening of her sacrifice. I've even talked about her continued relevance as it relates to Gray since Last Ages, including a post for Graytear Week in 2017 about Gray remembering Ultear during the Silver fight.

While Gray's flashbacks to Ultear make sense, I'm kind of iffy on the logic behind Ultear's appearances in Sun Village and Alvarez Empire. We kind of got an explanation behind her existence in Alvarez, being that Ultear can work within spaces where time is messed up. This has been repeated again in the sequel. I don't know that I like the logic behind it, but I also can't say, as some might, that this is Mashima regretting his actions. It’s worth talking about some of the things that have come up through Ultear’s new appearances after casting Last Ages.

For Gray, her sacrifice represents something he should avoid. Almost every time he remembers her, the point is that she made a sacrifice so that he could continue to live. Therefore he shouldn't try to throw his own life away. If you read the post that I made for Graytear week, you know that I like that this theme was reinforced by Ultear's sacrifice.

However, this is a lesson that Gray has already learned. Arcs before with Natsu stopping him in Galuna Island. I even say in that post that remembering Natsu stop him then should have been enough to stop him any other time he used Iced Shell. Especially considering Natsu stopping Gray is remembered every time this theme is brought up. This motif is particularly annoying because, in effect, it makes Ultear's sacrifice a repeat of Ur's use of Iced Shell. Gray even says that he lost both mother and daughter because they were trying to save his life.

In effect, he wasn't able to seal Ultear's darkness away, just as Ur did for him. Ultear saved Gray, but she ultimately succumbed to the darkness in her.

This brings us to the final arc. Her longest post-Last Ages moment is her involvement in Wendy and Chelia's fight with DiMaria. At the end of the fight, she muses about how, if things were different, she could have been just like the two of them. When I first read this, it felt nice knowing that Ultear recognized she could have done things differently. Looking back, it's annoying to see that she recognizes that she could have changed but it would require intervention much earlier on in her life. As if Gray and Ultear's relationship had more of an effect on Gray than it did on Ultear.

Not a whole lot of people seem to talk about how Chelia sacrificing her ability to use for Wendy's safety probably seemed similar to Ultear wanting to use Last Ages. I remember the Chendy shipping discourse when the moment happened in the manga, but I wasn't struck by that alternative until long after I rewatched the events in the anime. I don't buy into the whole "Ultear coming back cheapens her sacrifice" logic that many people have posited. However, the parallel between Last Ages and Third Origin is weakened once you reveal Chelia is still able to use magic after it.

And in the sequel, she appears again to Jellal to effectively telling him to live for Erza's sake. This might be where Ultear's presence makes the most sense. Ultear sees Jellal as someone going to make the same mistake she made and she wants to prevent that. I can’t help but feel annoyed that this was the direction Mashima decided to take this moment in.

I feel that continuously comparing this situation to Jerza makes it seem that I'm bitter against Jerza. However, I actually do like Jerza as it has been playing out in canon, even as I think that Jellal's redemption situation is a mess. It was among the first ships that I came to like within Fairy Tail and I’ve never been able to fully distance myself from it, even as I’ve come to like other ships for both characters (mostly Erza honestly) outside of Jerza. I don’t mean to make these comparisons to seem jealous of a ship I don’t like getting what I want a ship I like to have.

But when there is a clear obvious example of what we could have gotten from Gray and Ultear's relationship in another relationship involving their friends, which also happens to be one of the biggest ships in fandom? It's hard for me not to think that Mashima's doing this on purpose. After the immediate euphoria of seeing Ultear come back washed over me and I thought through this moment again, I was pissed of about Mashima’s handling of Last Ages all over again.

One of the craziest things about this whole situation is that the anime accidentally gave us an insane possibility for Ultear post-Grand Magic Games. If you don't know, when Ultear's backstory was revealed during her fight with Gray in the anime, it was revealed that the lab she was in was headed by Brain, who was the leader of Oracion Seis. I say accidentally because I don't have any proof that Mashima meant for this connection to exist. Nonetheless, if she didn't go through with Last Ages, Crime Sorciere would end up meeting with Oracion Seis.

I would pay good money to see how Ultear would interact with Brain post-Tenrou Island. In one story written by a fellow Graytear shipper, intended to be somewhat of a rewrite of the series, Ultear meets with Brain and kills him, along with a few other members of Oracion Seis. Is this how it would go down in canon? Probably not under Mashima’s watch. Though, the idea is definitely intriguing.

Speaking of which...

Epilogue: How, Despite Hilariously Low Expectations, Fans Disappoint Me

I don't think fans were given as much of an opportunity to believe in Graytear's ability to succeed as other smaller ships in Fairy Tail. Of course, I say this as someone who wishes that they did end up in a deeper, hopefully, romantic relationship and knows people who feel the same way. But, I've joked about how small the Graytear fandom is before.

If you've read some of my recent posts about Lisanna and Nali, you'll notice that I don't have as much of a problem with Mashima over how he handled Lisanna as I do with the greater fandom treatment of her. To be clear, I have issues with how little Mashima did with Lisanna after Edolas and I do wish he did more with her in canon. At the same time, I can understand why we got so little of her, with or without Natsu.

Still, with a ship like Nali, you kind of hope fans take what happened in canon and have fun with the possibilities. While it’s not on the same level as the Big 4, it's not as if it's impossible to find people who like the ship and are making new content for it. I can't exactly blame fans for not doing this with Graytear to a similar degree. But, I figure I should quickly deal with some things I have heard said by fans regarding Graytear. (read: I have nowhere else to put this except the end.)

The worst I've heard many fans over the years is that they're like siblings. Considering Ur didn't see Lyon or Gray as her kids, I can't say that I agree with this interpretation. And considering one of the biggest ships in the FMA fandom is Roy Mustang and his alchemist teacher's daughter, excuse me for not understanding how we got to this take being so popular. (inb4 "Royai and Graytear are different")

Beyond that, there's the take that this isn't the ship that parallels Reina and Musica from Hiro Mashima's other work, Rave Master. However, talking about why it is and why the false comparisons to Gruvia are infuriatingly incorrect would take way too much time and we're already over three thousand words in (read: I made a post about this over four years ago and I’m absolutely working to update it). Suffice it to say, I don't buy that line of reasoning either.

On a related note, there is the notion that Ultear “fell on the sword for Gruvia“. That’s more of a romantically-charged argument then I’m willing to talk about here and may be more suited for another time. However, it’s worth saying now that I don’t know that Ultear thought that much about the specific relationship between Gray and Juvia in casting Last Ages. I’m not even willing to say that Mashima thought about Gruvia that way in his writing of Last Ages, even as I interpret Gray “smiling for her sake” during Gift to be about Ultear and not Juvia.

I want to end this post by saying that I am grateful for the fans who have agreed with me and a shoelace on the merits of Graytear (you either get the reference or you don't). I have a few ideas of how that could work inside and outside of my rewrite universe that I will get to soon enough.

It’s also worth reiterating that this is one of my least favorite aspects of Mashima’s writing regarding Fairy Tail. I don’t feel as strongly negative regarding most of Fairy Tail, even among the things I disagree with most fans about, as strongly as I do this. (read: It’s unlikely I’d write a post like this if Nalu became canon.) I highly doubt Mashima would do anything else with Fairy Tail that would warrant this kind of post from me.

It's been a while, but of course I couldn't miss Gruvia Week 2020.

Title: Back To You

Summary: 6 months. That's how long Juvia had to wait while Gray was infiltrating Avatar. There were moments when she worried, but always knew that he would come back home.

Pairings: Gruvia (Pregnant) + Lyredy

One month after Juvia had told him that she was pregnant, they were starting to get used to the idea of becoming parents.

She was glad that Gray seemed much happier after they had many conversations addressing his fear of not being a good father and of something happening to her or the baby.

She had understood because they were her fears too. However, she told him that they needed to focus on the positive or else they could never be the parents that this child needed.

Gray had known she was right. They couldn't focus on the darkness when the light was right there, growing inside her. Their child, their new beginning.

Juvia had convinced him to; for once in his life; live in the present and enjoy their time together before the baby came.

Unfortunately, they were forced to be apart after he received news of an important mission.

Juvia woke to find his side of the bed empty; which was surprising considering at such an early hour. Jumping out of bed, she put on a bathrobe and went downstairs.

Gray was in the kitchen; his back turned to her; making pancakes. She watched him in surprise for a few moments until he turned around.

"Good morning." He greeted her with a tense smile.

"Good morning, my love." Juvia immediately noticed that something wasn't right. "What's wrong?"

Avoiding answering, Gray backed up a chair. "Why don't you sit down?"

She frowned, but complied. "Alright."

He went back to the stove and turned it off before taking the pan and walking back to the table. Not a word was said while he placed one pancake in the plate in front of her and another for himself.

"So, what's the occasion?" Juvia jokingly asked after he sat down in front of her.

"Juvia...there's something I need to tell you."

"What is it, my love?" She reached for his hand and held it.

"I got a call last night, from Erza."

"Oh. What did she say?" Juvia was curious. They hadn't spoken to anyone from Fairy Tail since the guild had been disbanded.

Gray squeezed her hand. "She told me about this dark guild, Avatar. They have been unusually active lately; recruiting many new members."

"It's good of Erza to warn us, but why…." He interrupted her.

"Jellal told her that he's worried they might make a move soon. So she wants me to infiltrate Avatar and figure out what their plan is."

"Infiltrate?" Juvia frowned and dropped his hand. "And why you?"

"Because of my demon slaying magic." Gray answered. "Jellal thinks this plus the black markings might be enough to convince them I've turned evil or something."

"Well, if you're going to Avatar then I…." About to suggest she tag along, Juvia suddenly remembered.

"You can't." Gray moved his chair closer to hers before placing a hand on her stomach. "It's too dangerous for the baby."

"And I can't use magic either." She sighed.

"I know I promised I wouldn't leave you, but this mission is important." Looking into his eyes, she could tell he was still conflicted. "If we don't figure out what they're planning, many people could die."

There was silence for a few moments before Juvia spoke. "I understand."

"Look, it shouldn't take longer than a month, okay?" Gray leaned in to press a soft kiss against her lips. "I'll be back before you know it."

Late May X792

A month passed but Gray did not yet return to her. Per his request, Juvia had been staying at Lamia Scale where the couple believed would be safe for her and the baby.

Being at the guild certainly helped her feel better after his departure since she had Lyon, Wendy and Chelia to keep her company.

Even Meredy had come to the guild a few weeks before to keep an eye on her though Juvia suspected her reason to stay was actually the handsome ice mage. Those two had become very close and many guild members suspected they were dating.

Though happy for her friend, seeing Lyon and Meredy connect only made Juvia miss her own boyfriend even more. She had hoped they would be reunited by now, but apparently his mission was not over yet.

"He'll be back soon." Wendy came to find her sitting in the back garden.

"I'm starting to lose hope." Juvia admitted gloomily.

"No, you can't think like that." The younger girl sat beside her.

"He said he'd only be gone for one month." The water mage sighed. Feeling a kick, she placed a hand on her baby bump.

"Can I feel it too?" Wendy shyly asked after watching her for a moment.

Juvia nodded. "Of course." Taking Wendy's hand, she guided it towards the spot where the kicks were coming from.

"Whoa." Her eyes widened. "That's amazing."

June X792

Juvia finally got to see him again. They met in the woods outside Marguerite and Gray voiced his worry that someone from Avatar might have followed him.

They were reassured by Jellal that this was not the case, but Crime Sorciére still stayed close by to ensure the couple's safety.

After talking about what had been happening recently, Gray apologised for being away for so long and Juvia easily forgave him. They moved in for a hug, but he was almost pushed back.

His eyes widened in surprise before descending towards her stomach. "Is that..."

"Yes." Juvia smiled softly. Then, she took his hand and led it towards the spot where the kick had come from. "Can you feel it?"

"Incredible." He murmured, mesmerised. Then his eyes rose to meet hers. "You are incredible."

Her smile brightened. "So are you, my love." They leaned in for a soft kiss and the baby kicked harder this time.

Pulling apart, Gray chuckled and returned his hand to her stomach. "I guess she wants our full attention."

"She?" Juvia raised a brow.

He shrugged. "It's just a feeling."

A smile lit up her face."I didn't know you were hoping for a girl."

Another kick. Gray looked at her curiously. "Well, what are you hoping for?"

"To be honest, I hope we have a boy." She answered dreamily. "Then he will be like you. A mini Gray."

He chuckled. "I figured you'd say that."

July X792

Chelia finally asked the question everyone had been dying to know the answer to during Lyon's birthday party. Him and Meredy were acting too much like a couple and the young god slayer couldn't take it anymore.

After they had cut the cake and Lyon offered Meredy the first piece, Chelia looked at them in annoyance. "Can you two stop driving us crazy and just admit that you're dating?"

The couple shared confused looks. "I thought everyone knew."

"We did." Juvia said, smiling at them. "We just needed confirmation."

"Is this confirmation enough for you?" Lyon asked before snaking an arm around Meredy's waist, bringing her close, before leaning in for a passionate kiss that she gladly reciprocated.

"I suppose it is." Sherry smiled while leaning closer to her husband. Ren wrapped an arm around her shoulder while the other held their 5 months old daughter, Aimi.

"Wow." Wendy stared at them in amazement.

"It was about time." Chelia rolled her eyes.

"I'm so happy for them." Juvia watched the couple joyfully. Though tears threatened to fall once she remembered the time when her relationship with Gray had been like this, she pushed them away. "He'll be back soon."

The next time she saw him, she was 8 and a half months pregnant. It was a few days after the Thanksgiving Festival when Lucy, Natsu and Happy had surprised everyone by showing up.

After catching up and discussing their plan to reunite Fairy Tail, they had left with Wendy to find Gray.

Though Juvia had felt bad about lying to them regarding his mission, she knew it was for the best. Should they arrive in Avatar, this could compromise his safety and ruin the entire plan.

With this in mind, the next few days were torture as Juvia waited and worried. The Lamia Scale members tried to distract her, but this time it was no use.

She was in the garden again-it had become her favourite spot-looking after Aimi since Sherry and Ren dropped her off at the guild before going on a mission. Hearing footsteps, she saw Lyon and Meredy approaching her.

"Hey." The latter offered a smile.

"How are you?" The former asked.

"Waiting." Juvia stressfully replied, keeping both hands on her stomach.

Now in front of her, Lyon sighed before sitting down. "We all are."

"I'm sure everything will be fine." Meredy reassured, sitting by his side.

"I really want to believe that." Tears began forming and this time Juvia didn't push them away.

Soon Aimi started crying too and the couple exchanged looks before Lyon carefully picked his goddaughter up and held her while Meredy moved closer to the water mage to hug her.

Though she wanted to comfort her friend, she knew that there was only one person who could make Juvia feel better now.

Almost like a miracle, the familiar voice was heard. "Juvia?"

She pulled away from Meredy's embrace and midnight blue eyes searched for him. Gray stood only a few feet away, surrounded by Lucy, Natsu, Erza, Gajeel, Levy and the exceeds. All were safe and sound.

"You're...here." Juvia sobbed. With Meredy's help she stood up and started approaching him.

However, due to her emotional state and enlarged stomach, she stumbled and would have fallen if Gray hadn't come just in time to help her.

"You're here." Her hands reached for his face, midnight blue eyes stared at him in disbelief.

He embraced her as best as possible when her stomach was between them. "I'm home."

Still crying, Juvia laughed and Gray wiped away some of her tears. It wasn't long before they were kissing, but once again the moment was interrupted by a kick.

Reluctantly pulling apart, their attention went to their unborn child. "Hey there, little one. How have you been?"

"She has missed you." Juvia smiled softly.

"She?" His eyes widened.

She nodded. "You were right."

A triumphant look came upon his face, but it quickly morphed into one of adoration. "I love you both so much."

They leaned in for another desperate kiss and everyone joyfully watched as they were reunited after so long. Then, Natsu turned to Lucy with a bright smile. "Soon we're all going to be home."

I hope everyone is doing okay despite these crazy times that we are currently living. Coronavirus has affected so many of us and I hope everyday that this crisis will be over soon.

Until life returns to normal, though, we should really take this time to reflect about how we treat our planet and the people who live in it. I hope we can learn to become more empathetic, compassionate and loving.

It's about time we realise that only by caring about others will we be able to solve this crisis.

Ok so lets start with the woman who single handedly raised these ice blocks.

First thoughts, oh wow she's cool( you can hate me its fine) she's really strong!

This woman is powerful. She is a master ice maker mage and an excellent teacher.

She is kind and compassionate.

She was patient with Gray, because she understood his pain.

Ur out of everyone in the series was someone who had the biggest impact on Lyon, Gray and Ultear.

She had her flaws yes she could at times be abrasive,but ultimately that is what made her such a relatable character.

When she discovered that Gray was going after Deliora, she went after him without any hesitation. She fought against the demon and willingly gave her life, she wasn't angry at Gray when she died. She was glad that she was able to seal away his darkness.

Now everyone knows Ur was strong later we hear Jellal say she was on wizard saint level.

One of the things I really wanted to see more of was her ice maker magic. We only really saw Rosen Krone, and a few training spells she taught Gray and Lyon.

Personally I think she could utilize both Dynamic and Static Ice make magic given the fact that she could create the roses(dynamic) and shields(static). But this is my opinion..

Honestly if Ur and Ultear had reunited it would have been a very emotional reunion.

Seeing her again and watching her fight against Lyon and Gray just wow. But it also showed us how far the boys had come from when they were just children.

Ultear.

First thoughts: oh she's pretty, wait she's the villain!!?? But she's still pretty

WE STAN THIS QUEEN!!

Ok but out of all the series villains she was my absolute favorite.

She was driven and ambitious,and went through great lengths to get what she wanted.

Yes her actions were wrong in many cases. But there was still some light in her.

She took Meredy and cared for her as her own.

And after learning that her mother truly loved her, she helped Gray and the other.

And then again when she broke Jellal out of prison, and formed a guild dedicated to bringing down dark guilds and Zeref. She was prepared to spend the rest of her life repenting for her wrong doings.

She died trying to ensure a future for everyone. That was pretty damn selfless of her. In that moment when she cast that spell, it reflected exactly what Ur did, willingly giving their life's for a better future for those they cared about.

Seeing her as an old woman honestly broke my heart. But seeing her finally at peace for the first time in years also made me happy.

When he appeared again in the battle against Dimaria, I was shook. She looks self assured more than any other time before.

She is still willing to do whatever it takes to help Wendy and Chelia. But again that softness that is so uniquely Ultear shown through. She warned them of the danger when you unlock your third origin,but respected Chelia's wish.

Ultear was a wonderful and complex character. Who truly grew in wonderful ways.

Lyon

What the hell was his Idea with the weird cold emperor mask thing? JK

Lyon was a decent antagonist, he was cool and calculated. Also prepared to do anything it took to reach his goals.

I'm glad he decided to join a guild. It was a good way for him to open up more and be less emotionally distant.

I got a bit pissed when Mashima tried to pull a love triangle between Lyon ,Juvia and Gray.

It took away the emotional maturity that Lyon had. And just made me dislike the Neo oracion seis arc whenever he was shown.

During the gmg we can see how much he has improved, and how strong he really became during those seven years.

Something that I loved was how he had taken a parental attitude towards Wendy and Chelia; he was kind and patient with them both.

Encouraging whenever one of them was sad or discouraged.

I'm glad that he had made peace with what happened to Ur. He was finally able to start putting the past behind him.

Lyon is driven, and very Intelligent. I just wish we could have seen more of his leader skills because he really is a good leader.

GRAY the sinnamon child.

First thoughts, dude NO no stripping.

His calm and composed attitude was refreshing.( when he was)

Gray is one of the characters that I'm most fond of.

He knows he has flaws and actively tries to better himself.

He worries about his teammates, and tries to help them whenever he can.

He is very empathetic towards others. And would go against orders to ensure that his guild is kept safe.

Something I hate again the whole Juvia thing is how if he was uncomfortable it was used as a joke.

I love how he has so many good connections with people. And how he,has a way of calming others.

The thing that had me hooked was despite his magic and how strong he became,there was still this humane part of him that was always shown through.

Despite all the pain and sorrow he went through he still fought for good.

The interactions he has had with people, how he is willing to give those who deserve it a second chance shows how caring he really is.

He has his flaws wanting to give his life so willingly,being one of them. But he learns and grows.

He gives his all,he is loyal and kind and smart.

HEADCANONS

Ur left her husband because he was abusive,and she wanted a happy home for Ultear to grow up in.

Ur and Ultear loved making snowmen and snow angles together,before Ultear became ill.

After losing her daughter Ur thought she would never be able to love again. But over time two young boys had brought warmth back into her heart.

Rosen Krone was the very first spell that Ultear wanted to learn because she loved roses.

After being taken in by Hades, Ultear would spend hours researching time and how to manipulate it.

Deep down Ultear knew what she was doing was wrong,but she wanted to see her mother so badly that she pushed away her feelings of guilt.

Despite the fact that she only helped Lyon because of personal gain, she actually took a liking to him. His magic reminded her of her mother.

When Gray had helped her see the truth. And after she and Meredy left the island Ultear broke down and cried for the first time in years.

During the seven year gap, she tried to find ways to find Gray and the rest of fairy tail.

And she also kept an eye on Lyon.

Lyon knew that he was being watched,but he never felt in danger.

When Lyon found out that Ultear was Ur's daughter he had pulled her for a hug.

Gray Lyon and Ultear wanted to spend more time with each other, but they never had the chance.

"She's dead because of you." The accusation was quiet, and Gray's eyes were downcast, but full of fire uncharacteristic to the ice mage. "Meredy told me what happened. About the note."

Jellal heaved a sigh, his eyes sliding closed. It was only a matter of time, he supposed, before Gray found out. For anyone who spent enough time around Jellal, Meredy was certain to spill some sort of long held secret about him or his feelings to that person. It was as unavoidable and inevitable as the sun setting at the end of the day.

"Answer me," Gray growled, advancing a step towards the other man.

Opening his eyes, Jellal stared back at Gray mildly. "You haven't asked a question," he pointed out.

"Don't," hissed the other man. "Don't pretend you don't know what this is about. Ultear. She's dead because of you." When Jellal remained silent, Gray accused, "Aren't you even going to respond?"

Jellal shrugged slightly. "I'm not sure what you expect me to say here, Gray."

"Deny it." Gray's voice trembled, as did his hand as it opened and clenched shut several times in anger with nowhere to go, no enemy to punch - only his boyfriend standing before him. "Say that it's a mistake. Say you didn't leave her behind when you couldn't find her. Defend yourself. Something. Anything."

The blue-haired man blinked slowly, almost languidly. "There's nothing to deny or defend. Ultear is dead. Has been for some time."

Gray swallowed thickly, raising his arm and bringing it down on Jellal's chest in the most half-hearted hit that Jellal had ever endured. "How could you?" he said, his voice starting to crack. Gray's fist lifted and collided with Jellal's chest again. "Why didn't you say anything until now?" A sob clogged his throat, and angry tears began to trail down his cheeks as he hit him again. "Didn't I..." Gray hiccupped, water trailing in earnest from his eyes. "Didn't I... deserve to know?"

Jellal shifted in place uncomfortably, and then awkwardly raised his arms to draw Gray further into his chest. Gray protested by smacking Jellal twice more. Then his palm flattened against Jellal's skin, and his other hand bunched up Jellal's shirt as he clung to it.

It wasn't like Jellal didn't want to answer, really it wasn't. Especially not with how distraught the news seemed to make Gray. The truth was that... he'd never really thought of her as dead before that moment. Oh sure, it had occurred to him as a possibility. But he'd brushed it aside, not wanting to dwell on the thought. Or on his own inaction. Meredy never brought it up, so it was easy to push aside.

And if he hadn't even been able to admit it to himself until just now, how could he have ever confessed it to Gray? Confess to the man that held his heart that he hadn't gone looking for his elder sister? That she had died, all alone? Without her daughter or friend by her side?

His fault. It was always his fault, wasn’t it? It was just a fact of life.

As Gray continued to sob into his chest, Jellal stroked his back. There wasn't much else he could offer right now.

Not when he felt like crying too.

I made a few posts in the past about how I liked (and kind of almost expected) Juvia being Mercuphobia’s daughter, and then I mixed Jellal into the family, and as much as I loved the idea I never really gave it much thought. But the idea was brought up in the gruvia server I’m in, and lo and behold, in the span of about 2 hours, we almost have a complete story for these three. So big big shoutout to @i-write-fanfics-to-procrastinate and @juvi-of-the-great-sea (and a few others) who gave me amazing feedback and ideas, and I definitely borrowed some of theirs 💙 So here’s the story:

- Mercuphobia fell in love with one of his worshippers, who eventually became pregnant (yes, they’re twins!) but because she was only a worshipper, and he was seen as a god, she thought it would be best if she left the town before anyone found out she was expecting.

- So, she moved in with her brother and gave birth. Unfortunately Juvia was born, or more like cursed, with an abundant amount of magic power, which she inherited from her father, and because of this, the skies always threatened to rain ever since she was born.

- As they were growing up, Jellal continued to tell Juvia that he would learn Heavenly Body Magic so she could see the clear night sky.

- One day, their mother left Juvia to stay with her uncle as she took Jellal out for a ride, where they stopped at a village full of recruiters for the Tower of Heaven. Jellal was taken, and their mother was killed.

- Believing that both of them were killed, Juvia’s rain increased to downpours and after a week the village she and her uncle inhabited was threatened by floods, all the while Juvia could not stop crying. Fed up with the crying, complaints from neighbors about the floods, and the fact that he was in no position to raise a child by himself, Juvia’s uncle attacked her, rendering her unconscious. Once he calmed down, he turned himself in, the guilt plaguing him that he attacked Juvia — the most important recollection his sister left him. Juvia woke up in an orphanage, told that her uncle was put in a facility, with no memories of her mother or brother.

- After the fight against the White Mage ended and his powers were returned, Mercuphobia decided to visit Fairy Tail to say thank you. However, after he gets there, Diabolos ambushes the guild. Juvia and Jellal just happen to be nearby when he’s almost attacked, and they protect him.

- Mercuphobia prepares to thank them, but when he sees them together, Jellal’s tattoo, and Juvia’s water magic, he stops right in his tracks and the gears start turning. He begins to tear up, muttering that they remind him so much of “her”. The two ask him what’s wrong, and he explains.

- Once the fight ended and Diabolos was defeated for good, Fairy Tail did what they did best: partying. Mercuphobia was the guest of honor, and while everyone was sober, Juvia and Jellal decided to tell the guild the whole story.

- Gray and Erza were possibly the most shocked, and somewhat worried that they wouldn’t get to spend time with either of them while they figured things out, although they’d never admit it (especially Erza, since she was new to the whole ‘jealousy’ thing)

- Jellal and Juvia didn’t really know how to interact with one another for the first few days, after all they had never done much interacting before, but occasionally they would say the same thing at the same time and look at each other like 😮

- One of the first things Juvia told Jellal was that she was now “obliged” to help Jellal and Erza get together, and he couldn’t say no.

- They tried going to restaurants together, whenever their guilds would allow, to catch up and share mementos that Juvia’s uncle and Merc sent them. Sometimes Gray and Erza tag along, and no, totally not because they miss them, only because they wanted to make sure they were getting along, of course, obviously. Not that Juvia minds though, because it’s essentially a double date, and it’s funny seeing Jellal and Erza scared to sit next to one another.

- One thing they had in common was that they both were introduced to Fairy Tail as enemies, and so they share with each other their regrets, but also advice on how they’re moving forward.

- Jellal became protective of Juvia fairly quickly, and now him, Gray, and Gajeel are the basis of the unofficial “Juvia Protection Squad.” Erza and Natsu are members too, of course.

- One time Juvia was making dinner when she cut her finger on the knife, it wasn’t bad but the shock caused her to curse and gasp in pain, the next thing she knew Jellal and Gray had busted down the door to see if she was alright.

- Juvia can also be protective though; she’s told the other members of Crime Sorcière (namely Erik and Sawyer) to stop giving Jellal a hard time a few times before.

- Then there was that time when Fairy Tail and Crime Sorcière joined forces, Jellal got hurt, and Juvia was almost as scary as she was on Tenrou Island. The other members of Crime Sorcière (and even some of Fairy Tail) knew not to mess with her after that, especially when it came to Jellal.

- Speaking of Crime Sorcière, Meredy was overjoyed at the news and she tried desperately to make them wear ‘sibling best friend bracelets’, which was the one thing Jellal would not do.

- The only downside to this new sibling relationship was dating. Jellal has followed Gray and Juvia a few times, telling Gray “if you hurt my sister I won’t hesitate.” Juvia gets somewhat annoyed but it’s not like she hasn’t followed Erza and Jellal, although for the exact opposite reason which would be to cheer them on.

- And yes, of course they tease each other. Jellal often rests his elbow on her head and tells her how short she is.

Gosh these were so fun to make! I got so into this 😂 I hope I’ll come up with more in the future, as well as a trio name that’s catchier than Mercuphobia, Juvia, and Jellal sooo suggestions are welcome!

Hehehe… well, you asked for it…

ULTEAR. UltearUltearUltearUltear fucking Ultear. Where do I even start?

She was, is and will always be the BEST character Fairy Tail has ever had; counting Gray, counting Erza, counting Natsu. Because Ultear changed. Ultear had more than a personality - she was a personality. She was a ‘round’ character in every sense of the word (and no, this is NOT an innuendo XD). See, the thing with FT is that Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Erza, Happy - they never change. Gray started out a cool, calm guy with a funny habit and he remained a cool, calm guy with a funny habit. He didn’t undergo any change, and that’s where Mashima fucked up. Because he went and made his side characters dynamic, and the main ones static.

But Ultear! This queen demanded her space in the tiny, flat role she was relegated to, and even then Mashima did her dirty. OHHHHHH did he do her dirty.

But let’s get there by starting with why Ultear is the perfect example of writing a good character.

First of all, Ultear had an interesting past.

She had a beautiful backstory, and she was powerful. And her past wasn’t the typical “I’m a poor little sad orphan” types - there were twists and turns she hadn’t known, which changes her character and brings her to this amazing redemption arc (will expand on this later).

She is the strong woman trope (alongside Erza, not counting Mira because Mira was degraded) that we’ve all wanted for so long.

Ultear dresses provocatively but is in NO WAY a femme fatale, unlike, say, Lucy, who does exploit her looks; and I’m not saying this is wrong at all, just pointing out how Ultear broke all the stereotypes of female anime villains.

Second, her powers. She’s OP as fuck and it’s amazing, really, and her powers are handled well. We need more OP girls who aren’t reduced to blushing sidekicks in anime, and Ultear was that for a while. (Until, you know, deus ex Mashima struck.)

Ultear has one of the most OP magics ever - the magic of Time itself.

She can LITERALLY MANIPULATE INANIMATE OBJECTS AND DECIDE THEIR FUTURE. And while it does come with some limitations, it’s still a very powerful magic.

BUT WAIT! That’s not all! Oh, no, Ultear has her mother’s magic, too. The Ice-Make Ur so loved was passed down to her daughter.

Ultear is said to have had an immense amount of Magic Power, and is incredibly skilled and talented.

She’s also an expert at Energy Manipulation, Possession Magic, Telepathy and a bunch of other things I’m too tired to Google XD

Third, she develops.

Her redemption arc was actually well handled, especially for a female villain.

Her bond with her mother, and her realisation that Ur really did love her, coupled with her platitudes to herself that all her crimes would be reversed in the New World, made her realistic.

Ultear was a broken and damaged and angry and mean woman, and she should’ve gotten more space to be mean and angry and broken, and to heal.

Ultear was redeemed in a very good way because her ‘never actually evil’ stuff was - A) the first of many to come in FT, so it was refreshing until Mashima overdid it, and

B) she had a reason to be angry.

She was hurt and mad and even then she didn’t want to hurt anyone. She was just looking for a way to make a new world, one where everyone could be happy.

Ultear is kind without being kind - she didn’t have to adopt Meredy. She didn’t have to feel guilty about the stuff she did because she underwent enough to become bitter and furious. But her conscience remained alive in the most realistic and beautiful way.

Her personality traits are interesting. She doesn’t become this totally innocent, sweet girl after her redemption: she retains her snarky and mildly sadistic nature. She does become more openly kind, which is to be expected on any redemption. But it was very refreshing to see that!

Now! Let’s talk about how dirty Mashima did my queen.

WHAT THE FUCK. Was the crap with saving Gray?! In my opinion, Gray should’ve died.

Yes, I just said that. The girl who has a blog dedicated to Gray just said that.

Gray should have died because then - at least then - Juvia might have had some personality. And you know what? I’m okay with sacrificing my guys for the girls. Because all the girls of FT were screwed over by Dickshima.

Anyways, I’m going off topic, so… yeah. Ultear.

Last Ages did not need to have that catch of aging. It did not need to be a single-use power with consequences, and it certainly didn’t have to be used then. Hell, Ultear has a fuckton of powers she could use to save everyone! She can literally change the time of the inanimate objects, cause a landslide or whatever. Possession magic: could have been used to possess the monsters and stop them from killing everyone. But no, Mashima wanted her out of the way because she was too interesting. She was too good, and she was taking over the plotline, and that couldn’t happen, now could it?

Now let’s imagine a scenario where Gray actually dies. Where he doesn’t come back, where Meredy stops Ultear from using Last Ages. Where Ultear uses a different magic in her unique and clever way to protect everybody.

Juvia would’ve grown to love herself and let go of her infatuation. She’d be able to use her full powers. And Ultear would be able to learn what Gray did on Galuna - to value herself and her life.

It’s the best lesson which she was never able to learn; and did we really need that parallel of Ur and her daughter both sacrificing themselves for Gray? Wouldn’t it have been way more poetic if it came full circle, with Ur going for Gray and Gray for Ultear?

Ultear was just drop kicked out of the narrative. She was given so much crap, and the funniest part is she’s the best character in Fairy Tail, writing wise. By Mashima standards, she’s astronomically amazing. Mashima started out trying to do with Gray what he ended up doing with Ultear, and failed miserably on both counts - one with keeping an MC dynamic, and two with keeping Ultear flat and sidelined. He didn’t think he had a choice: but I think he did. I think he could’ve chosen to shift Ultear gently to the sidelines while still letting her be an important part of the story. Ultear is useful as hell, has a beautiful design, and is just the perfect character.

tl;dr: Mashima should be kicking himself for doing Ultear dirty the way he did. She’s an amazing, nuanced character who was way better than any of the MCs, and I say this as a huge Gray fan.

You Like Him- Lyredey and Gruvia Double date

Hey people, this is set in a high school au, I hope you like it

A blue-haired girl stood in front of her midnight blue car, nervously waiting for one of her best friends to arrive."Meredy!" Juvia yelled at the pinkette, waving her arm. "Juvi!" Meredy said excitedly. Juvia and Meredy hugged. The best friends had both had been busy, with schoolwork, clubs, and Juvia started had swimming.

"What do you want to do tonight and tomorrow?" Juvia questioned her friend. This was the one night they could meet up and have a sleepover.

"Well, I was thinking we just lounge around." Meredy shrugged.

"Juvia got tickets to the carnival!" Juvia said, holding up two slips of cardstock, with barcodes on them.

Meredy eyes lit up, the carnival was her favorite place to go.

"YES!!!!!!!!" Merdey yelled ecstatically.

Meredy loved the carnival and Juvia knew this, and intended to take advantage of that

"Merds, that's not all."

"Oh, what else? Are we going to the Waterpark?" Meredy's eyes sparkled.

"No, not quite, Juvia had two extra leftover, sooooo."

"So, what?"

"Juvia gave the other two to Lyon-Sama and Gray-sama and told them to meet us there," Juvia said sheepishly

"Juvi!" the pinkette whined.

Juvia just laughed, Meredy had the biggest crush on Lyon and hated it when Juvia tried to set them up.

"Please, Juvia won't force you to be around him," Juvia said.

"Yeah right," Meredy said, rolling her eyes.

They pulled up to Juvia's house and walked inside. Meredy was always amazed at how well decorated her household was. It was always so clean. Contrary to Juvia’s adoptive family, who all looked very messy

The way the house looked and functioned would be considered normal until you saw Juvia’s adoptive family. The Redfoxes were very odd, 'that's a good word for it.' Meredy thought.

As Juvia and Meredy stepped in the living room, a loud crash, followed by a string of curses were heard from the garage.

The door of the garage opened, and a tall tan man stepped inside the house, covered in sweat and soot, and grumbling about how his head hurt.

“Hi, Uncle”

He nodded at the two girls

“What was that Noise?” Meredy asked cautiously, Metalicana terrified her and she was very nervous around him.

“I was trying a grad a tool, and all my other tools fell down” he grumbled

“Were you standing on something you shouldn't have been” Juvia questioned

“Nooooooo”

Juvia rolled her eyes at her adoptive father

“Aunty isn’t going to like that there is soot everywhere.”

“Kan isn’t home right now.”

“Well once she comes home she’s going to be upset.”

Metalicana rolled his eyes at his daughter.

“What are you guys doing tomorrow?” Metalicana changed the topic

"We're going on a double date tomorrow."

"Are you going out with that Fullbuster boy again.”

"Yes, Uncle,”

“Wait, wait. You are going on a date and dragging me along, and I am being forced to hang out with your boyfriend's stepbrother,” Meredy defended herself.

Metalicana looked at the girls confused and shook his head. “Whatever I'm ordering Chinese.”

“We are eating in Juvia’s room,” Juvia said grabbing Meredy’s hand and pulling her up the stairs

Metalicana nodded as the girls went into juvia’s room

The walls were a light blue. Her bed had a white comforter and black sheets underneath, With some midnight blue velvet pillows. She had a TV in her room and even a mini-fridge. Her trophies for swimming had replaced the dolls she used to sew of her crush, Gray, but since they had started dating she had stopped sewing her gray dolls collecting pictures of him, etc.

Juvia jumped on her bed with Meredy and pulled out the remote and turned on the Television. She had put in a fantasy movie that Meredy had never heard of. "Soooo," Juvia said "What," Meredy said gulled to the screen. "Lyon told me something..."

"MmHmm," Meredy said, not looking at her friend, she knew where this was headed.

"He likes a girl..."

"I don't care."

"With pink hair."

"Probably Sherry"

"Nah She's dating Ren."

"Since when?"

"About 3 months ago."

"Doesn’t mean he doesn’t like her."

"The girl Lyon likes he said she was kind."

"Don't care."

"She used to be really rude."

"Sounds like you," Meredy said, not looking away from the T.V

Juvia then shoved her off the bed, Meredy laughed while tumbling off the bed

"Meredy He likes YOU!"

"Don't get my hopes up" Meredy mumbled.

"You like him, you like him," Juvia teased.

After Juvia continuously said this for about 30 minutes, Meredy caved, "OK, I LIKE HIM!"

"Juvia knew it!"

"Ugh, Tomorrow is going to be a long day."

"You know it" Juvia giggled at the pinkette.

*Time Skip: 12 hours*

It was around 8, and the girls were getting ready, how they got up so early is a mystery.

"Meredy, can you do Juvia lashes."

"Fine"

"Thanks. I'm horrible at them" Meredy rolled her eyes, Juvia really was terrible at makeup, no matter how many times her “mom” tried to teach her how to do it.

"All right, Done."

"Thanks"

"Which do you think I should wear?" Meredy asked her friend. She held up an oversized pastel pink hoodie with jean shorts and magenta crop top with white jean shorts

"Second, with black sneakers and rose gold hoops."

"Which one?" Juvia proceeded to hold up 2 outfits. A grey crop top with midnight blue jean shorts and Grey tank top with blue skirt

"Grey tank top with shorts and white converse with those cross earrings gray got you that match his necklace."

"Thanks, Meredy" Juvia said running into her room to get changed

*Time skip 1 hour*

Gray and Lyon waited outside the carnival.

"How much longer till we can go in, so I can beat you at some carnival games," Lyon asked Gray, teasingly.

"I don't know it's not like I track my girlfriend."

"What do you mean you have a tracker on her phone." "I do not. Her dad took it off" Gray mumbled the last part, and Lyon stifled a laugh

"Gray-sama, please stop fighting with Lyon-sama," Juvia said, walking towards her boyfriend.

"Hi, Lyon" Meredy waved at the white-haired boy.

When Lyon saw her, his cheeks went pink. Gray elbowed his brother in the rib cage and pushed him towards the pinkette. "Hey you look nice" "Thanks, you too" An Awkward silence rushed over the two flustered students

"Meredy, Let's show these guys we can beat them at any game," Juvia said, knowing that would make Meredy excited, she was very competitive.

"Come on Lyon so I can beat you," Meredy said, grabbing his hand.

Gray Laughed at his blushing stepbrother, getting dragged away by his crush. "Gray-Sama" "MmmHmm," he said, pulling her closer towards him. "Juvia is gonna beat you," Juvia said, running away "Good Luck!" Gray yelled at his girlfriend as he ran after her

*Time Skip 2 hours*

The entire morning was full of the 4 high schoolers playing carnival games, fighting (mostly by Gray and Lyon), Laughter and blushing. "Hey is 12 we should really get something to eat," Lyon commented. "Sure, could you and Meredy go get some pizza, Juvia needs to talk to Gray real quick," Juvia asked Lyon, totally not trying to get Lyon and Meredy alone together. Meredy was about to deny her request, but Lyon jumped in "Sure Juvia." Lyon pulled Meredy towards the food.

"Hey, You're a girl right," Lyon asked

"Last time I checked," Meredy said smiling

"So, there's a girl."

"MmHmm" Meredy tried her best not to feel jealous

"I really like her."

"Then, tell her."

"I can't do that."

"Why not?"

"She's too good for me."

"Lyon if you like her, then just tell her."

"Can I practice on you."

Meredy stopped walking, she should have known he would have asked that Lyon always said 'If you don't practice you can't accomplish most things.' Knowing Lyon wasn't going to give up, why was she friends with such stubborn people, she agreed.

"Okay," Lyon took a breath. "Hey, I like you."

"Now just tell that to the girl you like," Meredy said.

"I just did," Lyon said, scratching his head.

Meredy's eyes went wide. Lyon, one of the most popular boys at Fiore high, liked her, the dorkiest girl at her school. "Why?" was Meredy's response. Lyon could have any girl he wanted, but he chooses a girl who could drag down his reputation in mere seconds.

"Because you aren't like all the other girls at our school, you are passionate about everything you do, you aren't stuck up, and you make me feel like a normal person, you don't treat me like some celebrity, you aren't afraid of teasing me and I need a girl that can do that."

"Lyon, I think I like you too." Lyon sighed, clearly relieved.

"That's a lot better than you not liking me." Lyon smiled.

"We should probably go get the pizza now," Meredy said.

"Yep," Lyon said, grabbing her hand and walking her towards the pizza place.

Elsewhere (totally not sitting at a table so they could overhear Meredy and Lyon) were Gray and Juvia. Juvia was squealing her heart out.

"They like each other, soon they'll start dating."

"Now that you got them together can you stop trying to play matchmaker and focus on us," Gray said, hugging his girlfriend's waist.

“Maybe, only if Mira doesn’t recruit Juvia to do more work.”

"We're back," Lyon said, holding Meredy's hand and the pizza.

Juvia smiled at the new couple

*Time Skip 8 hours*

The rest of the day was spent with Juvia teasing Meredy about her new boyfriend, Gray and Lyon trying to see who can get their respective girl more stuffed animals (Spoiler alert It was a tie, the rivalry continues). They had a lot of fun. Lyon offered to take Meredy home, and Meredy agreed.

"Thanks," Lyon told Meredy as they were driving to the girl's house

"For what" Meredy seemed very confused

"Not rejecting me."

"Why would I, I've liked you since I met you."

"I'm just so happy, I now have a girlfriend who is sweet, kind, not stuck up."

"Thanks, I think," The new couple talked the entire way home.

They pulled up to Meredy's house, Lyon hopped out of the car to open the door for Meredy. He hugged his new girlfriend.

"Bye Meredy"

"Bye Lyon" Meredy quickly ran inside, excited to tell her 'sister/mom' Ultear. Also, to make sure her 'brother' Jellal doesn't kill her new boyfriend.

Gray and Juvia were also on there way home, Juvia was talking to Mira the whole time theme planning the following methods to get their ships together. 'Man' Gray thought to himself, 'I love my girlfriend.'

Swapped lives au (Pt 1)

So I mentioned something like this before in a post and it was a Gruvia au but I’ve been thinking about for most of the characters, it’s mainly ships but it’s also not?? Also some of the characters swapped their magic types while others just swapped their magic styles e.g Natsu and Juvia

I’ll probably focus on the first four and then if anyone is curious about what the other characters are like, just send me an ask and I’ll answer!

So the swapped characters right now are as followed:

Natsu - Juvia

Meredy - Lyon

I’ll probably just write up to a certain point for each character and not go through every single detail

In this post anyways ;)

Natsu

Natsu grew up in an orphanage because he was just left their by his parents due to the fact that everywhere he went he brought a constant heat wave and at first everyone loved it until everyone was getting severe sun burns, heat stroke, becoming very dehydrated and become forced to stay inside at all times, the kids hated Natsu for this and constantly bullied him and the only thing that brought Natsu comfort was sewing little lizards because lizards love the heat but of course this just makes things worse and the bullies started calling him “Salamander”, and one day when Natsu was a teen he got so angry at one of the boys was bullying him and he had enough and punched the boy in the face but without him realizing his arm had gone on fire as he was going to punch him causing the boy to get some severe burns and due to the backlash from this Natsu ran away

So of course Jose heard about Natsu’s whole situation, hunted him down and invited him to join phantom lord and become a part of the elemental three (There was no need for Totomaru in Jose’s mind because he already had Natsu and he had no watermage because Juvia was already in Fairy tail )

Natsu’s magic gives him the ability to change his whole body into fire and his three main magic moves are Fire lock, this move traps the target in a ball of fire and fire slicer and fire claw which are mainly moves that attack the target with fire that Natsu can summon

So Natsu joined Phantom Lord and became very close with the guilds number one member Erza Scarlet, a iron dragon slayer who’s obsessed with Armour because it’s protective and good for a quick snack during a battle, the two started to grow a tight brotherly sister bond

So Natsu was the one who helped kidnap Gray in the first place just like how Jose ordered and just from seeing him in that moment he knew that there was something about him that he just couldn’t put his finger on but he shrugged it of and continued with the job

Natsu didn’t doubt that Phantom lord was going to lose against Fairy tail in the fight for Gray Fullbuster for even a second until he laid his eyes on Lucy Heartfilia, bloody and sweaty from fighting and the heat, and this feeling just swept over him that he’d never felt before and he was like ????? and obviously after she swore to save her friend he was like ??? Again and then he was angry because why does she want to save him ?? Like ?? But a fight was a fight and so the two were just at eachother both trying as hard as the other until Lucy’s whole hand just touches his chest and he stops because her hands are cold even though they’re in the middle of his heat wave but she quickly moves the hand to go back to fighting until they pink haired boy in front of Lucy just collapses because it started to rain and he feels cold and he’s laughing and crying at the same time, and poor Lucy just sits there rubbing his back because what else is she gonna do when this man child is just crying during a fight

And in that instant Natsu knew that he was going to marry this woman, not only because she stopped his heat wave but because she didn’t judge him for crying about it she rubbed his back and helped him calm down, not even caring about the fight, so obviously the only sensible thing that Natsu could think to do right after was to buy a ring because priorities

Juvia

Juvia’s backstory is the same as Natsu’s actual backstory and not the one you just ready up there as in she’s from 400 years ago

Juvia had a normal childhood, she had two parents and a younger sister, Wendy who she loved and cared for but tragically Juvia and her parents died leaving her younger sister to fend for herself

Wendy and Juvia had a very close relationship and were never apart until the day when they had to be apart for the rest of their lives ofcourse that was until Wendy became insane and reincarnated Juvia

Of course Juvia doesn’t remember any of this due to the fact that Wendy reincarnated her, but Juvia after this was raised by Aquarius who taught her everything she knew about water magic

Juvia and Aquarius has a very special Mother and Daughter bond and Aquarius loved Juvia like she was her own daughter

Juvia was sent to the future by Acnologia,were Makorav found her and brought her to Fairy tail were she made it her life goal to find Aquarius, because she didn’t know that she was in the future or the Aquarius was a celestial spirit

While she was out exploring she came across Happy’s egg and just assumed that it was a present from Aquarius because “Aquarius~Chan always gave Juvia the biggest presents she could find” and of course her best friend/(Love interest??) Cana helped he nurture the egg until it hatched and Juvia met her new partner in crime Happy who instantly became her new bestie sorry Cana

Juvia gets given the name “Siren” due to her seeming nice at first but she’ll drown you bitch if she has to

She meets Gray in Hargeon and after having lunch with him after she saved him from a love spell she started to get a slight crush on him but brushed it off due to the fact that she’ll probably never see him again but after saving him for a second time from a woman claiming to be her but really she just wants him to sell him, Juvia was like alight this ones mine imma protect it so she invites him to Fairy tail and the three of them (Happy, Juvia and Gray ) become partners

Juvia’s attitude is mainly like Aquarius’s due to the fact that she was her role model so she’s very aggressive (Like Edo-Juvia) but when it comes to her talking to Gray, you can see that she becomes more shy and calm while if she was talking to Lucy she would have beeten her ten seconds after seeing her

Juvia had found out that Aquarius was a celestial spirit thanks to Gray who was talking about how Aquarius’s key hadn’t been found for 400 years, when Gray was saying this he was talking absentmindedly to Lucy whole Natsu and Juvia just sat across from them, Juvia daydreaming about going on a job and Natsu daydreaming about Lucy ;), but the second she heard Aquarius’s name she was up straight asking all these different questions, asking about what a celestial spirit was and why did Aquarius need a key if she slept in the lake and of course Gray laughs at this thinking that Juvia was just joking until he saw the tears in her eyes and he had to bring her into another room and explain everything hto her while everybody had their ears to the door trying to hear everything

Her and Lucy are obviously best frenemies

Gajeel

Gajeel’s backstory is the same as Erzas really except Gajeel was abandoned by his father Metalicana (Whos human in this au) and so he grows up in the tower of haven along with Levy

Since Gajeel didn’t have any last name Levy dubbed him the last name “Redfox” because as she said “You’re eyes are red and you’re hair is fluffy like a fox”

When Gajeel was put in the disciplinary chamber after attempting to escape with the others, he was tortured to the brink of death and he also lost the ability to use his left eye (Opposite of what Erza lost ;))

When he got to Fairy tail he had an instant disliking to Invel because he was very snarky and the two would always start having random fights

He had a very close bond with Juvia and Lucy, even taking the time out of his day to help Juvia learn how to read and write, much to Juvia’s dismay

When he seen Levy that day back int the tower of Haven, it broke his heart because how did sweet little Levy turn into someone to dark and ready to resurrect a man so twisted and evil,spending years of her life working on the tower of haven just to reach her goal , and that’s when he knew that, something wasn’t right

It broke his heart again when he left her their to die , but to him it finally came full circle when it was just him and her back in the tower

When he had seen his funeral, he couldn’t help but shed a few tears when he seen Juvia denying the fact that he was alive and see everyone crying, holding each other because if the great Gajeel has fallen then how does anyone else stand a chance in this cruel world, but once he had seen Juvia again after being saved by her, he then saw everyone and everything in a completely new light

Gajeel is obsessed with Strawberry cake, he doesn’t know why but he just is, maybe because it’s sweet just like how Levy used to be

Erza

When Erza joined Phantom Lord, she was cold and calculating to everyone, bar Natsu because they had a weird bond that no one could explain

She loathed Fairy tail with her whole being because they were their rivals, hating them so much that she was the one who initiated the war between Fairy tail and Phantom Lord, only stopping to fight when she got defeated by Juvia, who was enraged at the way that Erza was treating Gray

After Natsu forced her to join Fairy tail, she didn’t want anything to do with the guild until Master Makorov offered her a speacil mission that her ego just couldn’t refuse but to accept, but of course she couldn’t start the mission without apologising to shadow gear, or more like be forced to apologise by Jett and Droy who were hassinling her until the sun set until she saved Jellal from one of Cobra’s attack’s

Erza has shown how well she could sing by forcing Mira off the stage and singing in front of everyone, surprisingly enough she could sing very very well but her lyrics were very very bad

Finding pantherlily was the best day of Erza’s life because now she had someone to talk to on the days when she felt like she had nonone in this world

After bring in fairy tail for an amount of time, Erza found herself becoming very fond of Jellal and couldn’t help but feel a strong urge but to protect him at all costs

Gray

Gray grew up in his family’s estate with his mother and father along with their many servants until one day his mother passed away leaving Gray and his father alone together, after his mother died Gray found that him and his father were starting to drift away from eachother day by day so to avoid this from happening Gray decided to make his father a present, only to be shouted at by his father and be made leave the room causing him not to talk to his father for almost two weeks

Gray kept a picture of his mother in a cross shaped locket that he wore at all times, holding it close to his heart whenever he felt stressed about anything

Gray became a celestial Spirit Mage so that he could honour his mother’s memory and use the keys that she passed on down from her to him

The day that he met Juvia and joined fairy tail was one of the happiest days of his life, he didn’t even mind the fact that the guild was so rowdy but that didn’t matter to him, all that mattered was that he was starting to make his way into the world

Gray strips not because that’s how he was taught to do when fighting, no he strips because even though he no longer has to wear the itchy uncomfortable suits that his father forced him to wear, and even now when he’s in Fairytail he sometimes gets uncomfortable and just strips wherever whenever, much to his own embarrassment and some others delight

The moment he joined Fairytail he insistently hit it off with everyone, especially with Jellal and Mira, he instantly hit it off really well with Jellal due to the fact about their shared interest in reading and writing, and he became good friends with Mira because, well he doesn’t really knew how they hit it off, maybe it was just because she somehow knew everything about him in a matter of a few days

When he got kidnapped by phantom lord and saved by Juvia, he had never felt more embarrassed in his life, not because he got saved by a girl, no it was an honour to be saved by the great ‘siren’ of fairy tail, no what was embarrassing was the fact that how easily defenseless he felt without his keys, muscles or no muscles he just didn’t know what to do in the moment since he had gotten so use to his keys which was his downfall when he got kidnapped by Natsu and when Erza was beating him up, so after that incident he took it upon himself to get stronger physically and mentally

When he saw how defestated Juvia was about how Aquarius’s key hadn’t been seen in four hundred years, he had made it his life goal to help her find her lost mother figure because that’s what you do with your friends, you make sure that they’re safe and happy and loved, that’s what friends do, right?

Gray became very close with his spirit Loke after he helped him deal with everything with the spirit king, well atleast Gray though that him and Loke had a close bond until during a battle instead of protecting Gray, Loke went over to protect Lucy cause “Fuck you Gray, I gotta save Ms Lucy” and that’s when Gray knew what betrayal felt like

Lucy

Lucy had been living a very pleasant life with her parents until the day that Deliora attacked her village, killing everyone but her, everyone died including her parents and Lucy didn’t know what would have happened if Grammi hadn’t come along with her student Meredy and invited her to come study ice make magic with her

Lucy enjoyed every moment she spent with Grammi and Meredy, she had created a motherly bond with Grammi and a sisterly bond with Meredy, who seemed very interesed in everything to do with ice make magic including the very dangerous aspects of it which Grammi had warned both the girls not to try unless they were in a very dire situation and even then they had to think about all of their options

Lucy remembers the day that she lost everything like the back of her hand, she had gone off to fight Deliora by herself which caused Grammi to have to save her using ice shell which even though it trapped Deliora away, she had also lost her life in the process of that happening. When Meredy had found out what had happened she shouted at Lucy and then left, not seeing her for years

When Lucy had managed to get herself to fairy tail she had grown a bond with Juvia almost instantly and although the two would argue almost every day, they had still shared a special sisterly bond

When she had seen Meredy again the first emotion she felt was relief knowing that she was alive but also anger at the fact that she was trying to free Deliora even though their master had died sealing the creature away, of course Lucy, Gray, Juvia and Gajeel had defeated Meredy and her comrades, It had brought a lot of emotions that she had locked away back to the surface but even though she was embarrassed that Gray had seen her cry, she was also relieved that her emotions were starting to come back out but also scared at this fact at the same time

Lucy and Gray had bonded over the fact that both of them accidentally strip at the most random of times due to the way that they were brought up and they would usually talk about the most embarrassing times that it had happened

After Lucy saved that Natsu guy from his heat wave or whatever he called it, she kept getting the feeling that that wasn’t going to be the last time that she’d see him

Wendy

Wendy loved her family more than anything and the day that she lost them, especially her older sister, she studied long and hard at Mildian Magic Academy researching the connections between life and death hoping that she can discover something that will help her revive her sister

After she was cursed by Ankhseram, she wanted more than anything to die so that she could pay for her sins which in turn caused her to start creating the etherious which then again in turn led her to try and revive Juvia which led her to reviving Juvia and creating E.J.D but she couldn’t revive her into her original age and instead had to make her younger than Wendy

After she and met Aquarius who, even though she wasn’t a dragon like Wendy was initially thinking, she had ultimately decided to let Aquarius raise Juvia until she would be sent to the future, Aquarius then intrusted Wendy with her key asking her to give it to Juvia when the time was right

Wendy and Acnologia has hatched a plan together along with Aquarius and the dragons to send the kinds into the future to fight the stellar mage Anna

When Wendy has bumped into Chelia, she was very worried at first because of her curse and what it could do to her but after spending a lot of time with the young girl she started to feel much happier with her, when she had found out that Chelia also had the curse, she was very happy at the fact that they could now walk alongside eachother but when she had kissed her and her life energy had all gone, that was the day that Wendy knew that she was be officially alone in this world

Throughout the years the rumours of The Dark Wizard Wendy spread throughout all of earth land and of course many of these rumours were just that, rumours made to strike fear in children so that they don’t mess around in something that they don’t understand

She keeps a picture of herself and Juvia in a locket that she wears all of the time, the picture is of a young Juvia holding baby Wendy in her arms while little Wendy is just playing with her hair and if anyone had seen that picture now they wouldn’t instantly say oh that a dark wizard and a demon, they’d see that they were two little kids who have their whole lives ahead of them but instead one of them had their life taken from them too soon while they other no longer had a life, all they did was exist in a world that didn’t want her nor her it

Zeref loved Grandeeny like she was his actual mother and losing her was the hardest thing that he had ever had to do but thankfully Cait Shelter had took him in instantly, and here is where he found an egg that unknowingly to him, contained his best friend and older sister type figure, Carla, Zeref and Carla had a very special bond, She had helped him during some very tuff times and although she was stern, she was also very sweet with him when she wants to be

Helping the other guilds to try and defeat Nirvana was very nerve racking for him as he didn’t know if he would be if much use to the others but he was very important, especially since he was the one who helped revive Levy, who to him was very important since she had been his protecter before Cait shelter so seeing her again made him feel very sad but also happy to know that she was alive

Finding out that Cait shelter wasn’t real and losing his master was probably to that day the safest day of his life along with losing Grandeeny because that was family and to find out that they weren’t real sad heartbreaking for him to say the least but thankfully he had Fairy tail to lean back on and he loved it there with everyone else, especially with Gajeel since he had been very nice to him when he had lost his guild

During the GMG, when he had met Mavis for the first time he instantly strayed to develop feelings for her because she was so nice and strong and amazing and of course he didn’t understand what he was feeling because he’d never liked someone in that way before so he asked Gajeel for advice since he was the closest thing he had to a brother and of course he has no idea about this sort of thing either so the two of them just sat in Gajeels room together waiting for Gray to come back so he could explain to Zeref about what he was feeling which was awkward to sag the least

Zeref had grown a very close bond to Lisanna for some reason, maybe it was because she could talk to him since she’d frequently go down to the orphanage to talk to the orphans that lived there so she understood what a kid his age would like and how they’d be feeling so the two of them would often be seen talking to eachother in the guild hall whoever they have free time or if Zeref is feeling a bit gloomy

So that’s a lot already so there’s definitely going to be a part two were I’ll talk about the next four or six characters but maybe if there’s a specific two characters you want me to talk about I will in the next post of if there’s any other character that I haven’t mentioned op there than you can just send me a message though my inbox! Love on Detours Chapter 10

Guys. So here we are with Chapter 10.

It took a while, I know. However, a big block had me firmly under control and then there was stress in my private life. Reallife *shrug*

At the request of my german readers, I mix this chapter with two of the four pairings. Actually, I was planning to add Miraxus as well, but the two didn't want to do like I wanted. AND after this chapter I will make a time jump with you ;) Let's see what you think about this.

Chapter 10

She was incredibly sad. Her heart hurt only at the thought of him, of his behaviour towards her. But she simply couldn't change it. And she did not want to change her behaviour. She loved him, and she couldn't and wouldn't change that. Even if it killed her. Because she knew that he could not hate her. Before it came out how her family relations were, he had liked her, even presumably loved her. He had introduced her to his family. And if his father hadn' t told him that she was the daughter of an Oyabun, they would probably still be a couple. Gray had been so angry four years ago. And he had thrown a lot of insults at her head. But only if she really dared to approach him. Otherwise he had always ignored her, punished her with icy cold.

Juvia straightened up. Tiredness hung in her limbs and she lowered her gaze, looking out the window. Outside it was cloudy, rainy. Matching her mood. Everything seemed so much bleaker since he had told her about a month ago that he had a fiancée. She felt so lifeless, impassive. These words had destroyed so much in her, had ruined her. Another tear ran down her sore skin. She didn't even have to look in the mirror to know what she looked like. She knew that too. Her skin would be red from all the crying and irritation from the tears, her eyes swollen and bloated, stuck with tears. Her skin pale and sickly. She seemed ill and for a good month she had barely made it out of bed two days in a row. Juvia felt headaches throbbing behind her forehead and her throat laced up. Her heart was aching, burning and her body began to tremble.

A muffled knock on her door made her flinch violently, but still her gaze hung on the flowers on her windowsill. Back then, about 5 years ago, Gray had given her a flower for her birthday and she had cared for it all the time. The blue blossoms of the gentian never seemed to want to wither properly and never let themselves be withered. At that time it had only been a single flower. For five years a whole flower box had been growing cheerfully. Juvia bent slightly forward and inhaled the scent of the flowers and a sad smile plucked on her lips.

"Juvia-sama?", Acnologia's voice muffled through the door and sighed softly. Should she answer him? She didn't know. However, she also knew exactly how he would react if he saw her. The otherwise quite polite and mostly emotionless, good house spirit of the family would be angry. He would be furious and she wanted to avoid that. Nevertheless, she slowly rose. The soft fabric of the knee-length nightgown gently played around her skin and the white fabric almost adapted to her pale skin. She slowly opened the door and looked up at the servant of her family, blinking slightly. For a moment he stared at her and she saw the rage flashing in his dark eyes as he took a closer look at her appearance. Then he sighed softly.

"Ojou-sama," he said and sadness resonated in his voice as she looked at him wordlessly and waited. She knew what he was thinking, even without him saying it. She knew what everyone was thinking. Her clan thought she should finally forget Gray. That he was not worthy of her love at all. But she didn't think so and she just couldn't let him go.

"Breakfast is ready, do you want to take it with the others at the table, or in your room?", surprise briefly drove through her body as he did not address the subject, as usual, but simply continued. But she didn't go into it. That wasn't necessary in itself. She lowered her eyes slightly and shrugged her shoulders. She had not spoken for almost a month. Did she want to eat with the others? Did she want to eat at all? Dullness lay over her senses and she blinked slightly, then she braced back to her bed, crawled silently back under the blanket and buried herself in the warmth of the soft fabric. Tiredness spread throughout her body and dragged her down into a deaf, bleak sleep.

" Morning," he growled and dropped his bag on the bench next to Ultear. She looked up from the book in her hands and smiled coolly at him. Just like always. His cousin wasn't exactly the warmest person, so this reaction didn't really surprise him. Restlessness filled his senses and aggression surged in him. But he couldn't really put the whole thing together, didn't know why he had been permanently irritated for almost a month.

"Wow, still such a sunshine, mhm?" she asked and sarcasm seemed to drip from her words. Gray snorted and clenched his teeth so tightly that his jaw crunched. Icy rage crept up in him and he didn't even really know why. He hadn't been at peace with himself the whole time, had lost his balance. His inner peace and that worms him animalistically. But he also didn't know why and he didn't want to make a fool of anyone or get into a constant argument. Or in fights, but that was exactly the case. Gray let himself fall next to his cousin and drove with his hands irritated through his hair.

"Again so extremely aggro", his brother Lyon's voice penetrated his ears and he raised his gaze to him. A dark growl rolled up his throat. He knew what Lyon was alluding to, but he refused to believe it. It couldn't be Juvia's absence. Since he treated her so coldly, since he had rejected her, he hadn't been so aggressive after all. Cool yes and he admitted that for the last four years he had laughed less than before. It couldn't be because he had told that lie. Nor was it because Juvia hadn't come to university for a month, had it? He pulled his eyebrows so tightly that they were a single stroke. Thinking of their shattered facial expression, his heart contracted painfully for a moment. But the fact was: she was the daughter of criminals. Of scum. His father had said at the time that such a person was not tolerated in his house. He was a policeman and as such avoided scum like the Dragneels. He let his head hang, rubbed his neck and stared at the patterns of the stone slabs.

"Yes, but he won't believe us that this is connected with his nonsensical dislike of someone very special," Ultear said, shrugging her shoulders. She herself didn't mind in the least spending her time with the social scum. Ultear did her thing and sometimes Gray envied her for it. His aunt Ul's daughter wouldn't let herself be pushed around, not even by her own mother. Even though sometimes he didn't quite understand what she found in such criminal scum. On the one hand, he still loved Juvia. That had never changed over that long time. But Gray didn't want to disgrace his family either. Whereby his father had nothing against Meredy, Lyons girlfriend. Sometimes he just didn't understand his father's reasons.

"He just doesn't want to admit it. I know that he even has a secret picture folder of Juvia on his computer and on his cell phone," Lyon said, and Gray literally froze. His heartbeat speeded up and slowly he raised his gaze, staring angrily at his brother. How did he get his data? Apart from that ... why did he tell it around, please? He felt the strong urge to smash the white-haired man's face in. His muscles tightened, but Lyon simply didn't pay him any attention, otherwise he would have noticed that he was staring at him as if he wanted to kill him. His heartbeat quickened more, rage made his blood boil, and the urge to beat Lyon grew stronger with every second. Gray's hands clenched to fists, he grabbed his bag and rose jerkily.

"I'm not in the mood for your bullshit, I'm going home," he rumbled and marched off with stiff steps. He didn't want to harm his family. Why was he so angry?

Levy sighed as she stared at her cell phone. Juvia's behavior was to tussle hair. Not only was she currently the Dragneel clan's problem child, Lucy also worried and she worried herself. Juvia and Gajeel were friends and each of them watched with growing concern as she sank deeper and deeper into this depression. She barely ate properly, rarely came out of bed for several days in a row, let alone out of her room, and she basically cried all the time. Apart from the fact that she hadn't said a word the whole time. That worried everyone and the only thing that kept the Dragneel clan men from filleting Gray was Juvia's heart that would break even more. She turned to her side and sighed deeply. It was Monday afternoon and she wondered how to make Juvia a little happier again. It was already summer and she had opened the balcony door so some wind could blow through the apartment. The soft ringing of the wind chime that Gajeel had hung up was almost meditative and she closed her eyes for a moment, the smartphone in her hand on her forehead. Maybe they should have a picnic?

For Lucy that would be quite good again. She was mothered by everyone all the time and Levy knew she felt like a glass doll. Because that's how she was treated. Like a raw egg on a battlefield. Levy knew that her best friend was working very hard. She was now in her 13th week of pregnancy and in the meantime you could already see a light belly that wasn't there otherwise. The school did not necessarily react to pregnancies. Makarov was a very tolerant headmaster. However, Levy had encouraged Natsu and Lucy to talk to him on their own. In the end Lucy was allowed to finish the school, but he had taken Natsu to prayer for a long time. Then her cell phone vibrated again and she lifted herself up, stood up and went over to the fridge, took out some cooled Sencha and sat down on the sofa again. She opened Line and scrolled to the end of the group chat, frowning.

Lucy, 14:45: We clearly have to distract her.

Gajeel, 14:50: Yes, we all know that, Bunnygirl.

Lucy, 14:50: DO NOT CALL ME BUNNYGIRL!

Gajeel, 14:52: Stop crying.

Natsu, 1452: Metal face, if you call Lucy that again, I'll sink you in Tokyo Bay!

Gajeel, 14:53: Of course. Calm down again, Salamander.

Lucy, 14:53: Naaaatssuuuuuu *sniff* Cuddling

Natsu, 14:53: Wait a minute, I'll be right there. Give me a second, okay? Won't be long.

Gajeel, 14:55: HAHAHA, you are such a slipper hero.

Levy sighed and snorted slightly. Then she started typing. It couldn't be that they couldn't all get it together to calm Juvia down and bring her to other thoughts.

Levy, 14:57: Guys ... let's please concentrate on the actual topic again. Juvia suffers under Gray and I don't want a friend to break down like she does. Accordingly, I suggest a picnic. This is good for her, then she comes out and Lucy also comes with her. You don't have any right to have a say, Natsu.

Natsu, 14:57: Please what?

Lucy, 14:58: That's a wonderful idea, Levy!

Natsu, 14:59: Honey! I'll be right there, let's discuss it!

Lucy, 14:59: There's nothing to discuss, I'm not a raw egg. I'm just pregnant!

Natsu, 15:00: With ma twins!

Lucy, 15:01: The one I carry, not you. By the way, where are you?

Gajeel, 15:01: As imma say, yer full under the slipper

Natsu, 15:02: Shut up, metal face!

Lucy, 15:03: NATSU DRAGNEEL! IF YOU'RE NOT HERE RIGHT NOW, YOU'RE GONNA GET SOMETHING!

Natsu, 15:04: Almost there, darling. Only a few steps left! Wait, Luuuuceeeee

Levy sighed and shook her head. She laid her head slightly on her neck. Her friends were sometimes really exhausting, but she loved them all. Despite their strange quirks. The bluenette girl rose from the couch with another sigh, went straight into her bedroom and dug out a big cooler bag and a blanket carrier bag from her closet. Then she went into the kitchen and picked out ingredients.

Soft sunlight fell through the dense canopy of leaves, the tree under which the small group had settled. The chirping sound of cicadas filled the hot summer air. Everyone seemed to be looser than usual. Only Juvia was sitting in a simple blue dress that reached down to her knees, not saying a word, not even pulling a face. Levy had the impression that Natsu had forced her to come along. And she wouldn't be surprised. Juvia's otherwise soft, shimmering blue curls seemed dull and lackluster, and her deep blue eyes also had a cool emptiness in them. She would never admit it, but Levy was afraid for Juvia. Could she ever make it out of this depression?

She knew what words could do. Her own father had always kept her small until she met Gajeel. Restlessness surged and sorrow surfaced. Had Juvia eaten anything at all? She had not yet touched the sandwich Levy had given her.

"Juvia?," she asked carefully and looked at her waiting. Her heartbeat accelerated as the other bluenette one slowly turned her gaze, looking at her with that empty gaze. Levy smiled uncertainly.

"I hope you like it," she asked and knew perfectly well that Juvia couldn't really answer that question. After all, she hadn't taken a bite yet. For a moment her eyes wandered over to Lucy and Natsu sitting on the other side of the cloak. Natsu had drawn his girlfriend to him. She sat leaning against him on a soft cushion between his legs while he held her plate and fed her all the time. Something the blonde kept complaining about. And Levy knew that was simply because her best friend felt like she was being fattened. Because not only Natsu fed her constantly. Everyone stuffed food into Lucy's mouth all the time. And even now Lucy had to force Natsu not to put something in her mouth all the time so that she wouldn't fall off his meat. Levy turned her attention from the quietly squabbling couple back to Juvia. She stared at the paper plate on her lap. Then she looked back at Levy and nodded. The corners of her mouth twitched slightly, the beginning of a smile. Levy's heart made a jump. That alone was a rare reaction from her. And yet Levy was careful, she didn't want to frighten Juvia, didn't want her to retreat back into her cold, impenetrable shell of sadness and silence.

Because even if it was only the twitching of her mouth corners, it was a fact that it had been the hint of a smile. And that was progress in the right direction, as the bluenette found. Juvia slowly took a tiny bite, and for a few seconds Levy saw the touch of a glimmer in her blue eyes. Since Gray's harsh words, they seemed empty and desolate, like two endlessly deep tunnels of blue. But now a tiny spark of life had shimmered in them. Levy's heartbeat accelerated and she beamed at Juvia as she continued to eat. The others didn't hide it either, but nobody said anything. They secretly kept an eye on Juvia for fear that she would stop immediately when she realized she was being watched. A warm summer breeze came up and plucked her blue hair. She immediately seemed more alive. Then Juvia handed Levy her paper plate and Levy looked at her questioningly. The breath of an invitation was in her eyes and Levy's eyes widened.

"W-would you like some more?" she asked cautiously and to the delight of the others, Juvia nodded after a short hesitation. Levy beamed at her friend and immediately nodded enthusiastically.

"Of course, Juvs. Another sandwich or some sushi?" she looked at her waiting and Juvia pointed at the sandwiches with a lowered gaze and shimmering pink cheeks. Levy immediately put two on her plate and handed it back to her. Then Gajeel leaned forward. He had leaned against the tree all the time behind Levy.

"You see, it's slowly getting better again, Shrimp", he hummed softly into her ear and Levy nodded slightly. Juvia ate little and only in small bites, but slowly a touch of colour seemed to come into her pale cheeks again. And that made her incredibly happy.

"See you tomorrow", Levy beamed a big smile at the others. Gajeel looked as grim as ever while carrying the cooler and the carrier bag with the second blanket. Lucy smiled while Natsu had an arm wrapped around her waist. Juvia stood next to the two, but said nothing. She indicated a slight bow.

"Yes, see you tomorrow, Levy. Come home well and write if you're home okay," concern shimmered in Lucy's chocolate brown eyes and Levy nodded, grinned broadly.

"Don't worry, nothing will happen to us," she replied. Then they got on their socks and left the Dragneels' property. The air was a bit humid, it was still hot and the chirping of the cicadas filled the evening air. Music came muffled from some houses and in the distance you could hear the sounds of trains and cars.

"Do you think she can do it," Levy asked and worry lay in her features, her posture and her voice. Gajeel sighed deeply. Slowly it annoyed him. He knew that Juvia felt like shit, but he knew that she was stronger than that and got back on her feet. Of course it would take time to get over Gray, but she would make it. He knew that.

"Will be, believe me. She'll be fine," he returned and Levy looked up at him as he gave her a smirking grin. Redness spread in her cheeks and she giggled, then she nodded approvingly.

"Yes, I think so, too. And she still has her family," she agreed. Then Gajeel pushed himself in her way, bent down to her and kissed her. She leaned towards him, returned the kiss and heat crept through her body. His scent rose into her nose, filled her senses and both slowly separated again.

"And you have my old man and me, don't forget that," he said and his voice was deeper. The smile on her lips widened and she kissed him again as a consenting hum left her lips.

Juvia knew everyone was worried. And she understood it too. But she still needed some distance. It just couldn't be any other way. She couldn't pretend that she didn't care any more. That didn't work like that. She simply loved Gray too much for that. Natsu and Lucy had already gone inside and she pulled the brows together as she walked through the long corridors. The dark wood and the paneled walls were as always well maintained, shimmering softly in the light of the lamps. She stepped into the entrance area and to the telephone desk, writing down a short note that she was taking a little walk to clear her head. Then she slipped into her wedge heel sandals and left the property. Both Acnologia and his foster son Zeref would notice that she had left a message. Probably the latter rather than Acnologia, because she knew that Zeref was always keeping an eye on her. If she ever left the house. She followed the narrow side streets, listening to the chirping of crickets and cicadas, the muffled music, the laughter of families. Like a hushed shadow she walked almost silently through the poorly lit streets. But she had absolutely no fear. No one here would hurt her. They all knew her too well as a daughter of the Dragneel clan. Even though she had been adopted all these years ago.

She didn't have her phone with her, but she wouldn't have really paid attention to the time and so she just kept wandering around. She stepped into the light of a lantern and her gaze glided over the entrance of a smaller park. She didn't know how long she had been walking around, but she was less familiar with the area. Her gaze glided over a wide square. Moths danced in the lantern light and then grunting noises, dull moaning and the sounds of blows penetrated her ears. Confusion gripped her senses. She knew these kinds of noises and knew there was a fight going on.

A touch of curiosity surged inside her and her heartbeat accelerated slightly. The sand crunched quietly under her soles as she walked further into the park. She saw a modern toilet house, saw park benches and then she saw darkly dressed figures fighting each other.

Her eyes widened as she recognized who was messing with a group of thugs. Her heartbeat speeded up and fear painfully hit the claws in her stomach. She saw him skilfully dodging, handing out and seldom taking a blow. Time on Fairy Tail had made him harder.

She swallowed, felt a thick lump in her throat and again tears came to her eyes. Deep dark anger paired with an intense, concentrated look lay on his face. Blood was stuck on his right cheek because of a laceration and his lip was chapped. She saw in the dim light of the lanterns the blood on his hands, saw his injured ankles. Her heartbeat accelerated as he took a kick in the side. She heard the deep, painful grunt and her vision blurred. Her heart felt like it was made of shattered glass. She could barely breathe so much it hurt.

I shouldn't be here, she thought, swallowed and wanted to turn away when she saw something flashing. Her eyes widened and her body reacted all by itself. She sprinted to the beating adults and threw herself before Gray's unprotected back. The smacking sound of flesh and blood filled the air and pain roared in her body. Her vision blurred and as the attacker pulled out the knife she growled and struck. An animalistic screech came loose from her lips as she moved on to attack. Her instincts ordered her to protect him, defend him and eliminate any enemy who stood in her way. Roaring, hot rage roared through her body, burning with adrenaline through her veins. She jumped on the stranger and beat him up. Then she turned away from the unconscious one and turned to the next enemy. Even as she stood up and turned around, her vision blurred for a few seconds and Gray's horrified cry reached her ears. Everything began to spin and she blinked slightly.

Someone grabbed her by her upper arms and as she felt pain and warm wetness, she blinked violently, looking down. Blood colored the long blue dress continuously red and slowly she felt the pain through the adrenaline. Gray held her upright on her arms and for a moment stared only at the wound on her stomach. Then she slumped down.

Gray whirled around, one of those stupid idiots in the mangle, saw blue hair, a long blue dress. His eyes widened and he simply beat the guy unconscious, dropped him. The others started the retreat and he didn't quite know why, perceived it only marginally. He saw her go at one of the guys angrily like a fury, beating him into unconsciousness. His heartbeat speeded up and as she swirled around looking for her next opponent, his eyes widened in shock. Not because of her murderous facial expression, but because his gaze was magically drawn to the ever-increasing bloodstain.

"JUVIA", her name left his lips without him being able to prevent it and he passed the few meters. He saw her wobble slightly and grabbed her by the arms, holding her as she realized she had a wound. His heart pounded painfully loudly against his ribs and icy anxiety surged inside him as she collapsed. She had acted in adrenaline.

"No ... Ju ... oh fuck," he cursed, bringing out only vague words while his thoughts rested. Where was the nearest hospital? He went down on his knees slightly, shoved one hand under her knees and lifted her up skilfully. She weighed almost nothing. He swallowed and his panicked gaze flew across the side streets that bordered the park entrance. He didn't have a mobile phone with him and didn't take any money either. So he couldn't call a taxi, let alone call an ambulance. Gray gritted his teeth firmly together, tightened his grip around Juvias narrow figure and set himself in motion. He had been an asshole, he knew that, but he wouldn't let her die like that. And with this thought, he started running.

His body hurt, sweat stuck to his skin, his breathing was panting and although Juvia clearly weighed too little, it seemed to him that she was getting heavier with every step. Sweat was burning in his eyes as he came half jogging half stumbling through the automatic sliding doors of the hospital. He looked around hectically. His clothes were soaked with her blood and the panic crushed him. The roar of his heart drowned out the bustle of some nurses and a few doctors and other patients in the entrance area. But even if he had noticed these other people, he would not have really paid attention to them.

"HELP! FAST! SHE NEEDS A DOCTOR NOW," he roared like a madman. For a moment, time seemed to stand still. He felt the eyes of the strangers on him, felt the immediate silence, but his behavior and appearance, desperate, sweaty and bloody, set some of the nurses in motion immediately. A few seconds later, two emergency doctors came running up with a couch and helped him to gently place Juvia on it. He was pushed aside while Juvia was taken away and a doctor examined him, asked him questions, but he didn't listened to any of them. His gaze was fixed on the door behind which the doctors and nurses with Juvia had disappeared. Everything around him turned slightly, but he ignored the swindle. Dull, he heard someone talking to him, but his gaze was fixed on the door. Then a violent pain struck his cheek and his head flew to the side. He stared with big eyes at a doctor.

"I'm sorry, but you were too fixed and barely responsive. What is your name, how do you feel?", the doctor was smaller than him, but scrutinized him with a firm gaze, examining and conscientious. He blinked violently and swallowed, felt the burning in his throat.

"I ... Gray Fullbuster," he then said, "my name is Gray Fullbuster."

"Mr. Fullbuster, please sit down."

"No," he shook his head slightly and swayed slightly, but looked back at the door.

"It wasn't a request," the sound in her voice pulled his eyes back on her, and Gray saw the slender doctor's hard, stern gaze in front of him and swallowing lightly. Cold shivers crept up his back and he let her push him to a seating group. He examined her a little more closely. She had cyan hair, deep blue eyes and her skin was quite pale. The wide white gown and the sky blue doctor's clothes did not hide her female figure, though. His eyes briefly scurried to the name tag on her clothes. Dr. Aquarius Star. Then his eyes turned back to hers.

"So ... ", she began and pulled out a pen, made a note, " You' re Gray Fullbuster. Age?

"19," he said and rubbed his chest. He felt an unpleasant pulling in his heart and knew it was because Juvia was hurt. It was all his fault. His lips pressed into a tight line.

"And the young woman you brought us?"

"Juv-Juvia Dragneel, 18 years old," he said and his voice seemed shakier than it should. His hands clenched into fists and his gaze fell on the linoleum floor.

"Mhm ...," she grumbled and when he raised his gaze, he saw her eagerly writing down what he said.

"You wouldn't happen to know the phone number of her family?"

"I-I ...," he began and swallowed. Dr. Star looked at him with a waiting, cool look. Gray drove his trembling fingers through his hair, spreading some slowly dried blood on his face. He felt the exhaustion in his bones.

"I do ..." he said and did not dare to look at her. His gaze fell on his shoes and he gave her the number and address of Juvia's family. They would kill him. He somehow hoped so. He didn't deserve anything else. Feelings of guilt literally crushed him and pain pervaded his heart with every beat that it did. He was to blame for this accident. The doctor said she would send him a nurse to treat his wounds, but he didn't hear it. Then she rose to inform the family. She already felt sorry for Gray because she had also asked how it had happened and he had said it was his fault. She didn't necessarily believe that, but she recognized feelings of guilt when she saw them and he seemed to be literally crushed by his. Still, she clearly had more important things to do than look after a young adult. Sighing, she leaned against the reception desk and grabbed the phone without even looking at the sister in charge. Her eyebrows shrunk slightly as she typed in the number. It only rang twice when her call was answered.

"Dragneel."

"Good evening, this is Dr Star from Komazawa Hospital. Does a Juvia Dragneel live with you?" she asked, and there was a moment of silence.

"BOSS!", Aquarius held the phone a bit away from her ear as the stranger who had taken the call yelled for someone. And then it wasn't long before she heard the rustle of cloth at the other end and someone called again. Apparently the stranger had passed on the phone.

"Yes?"

"Good evening, this is Dr. Star from Komazawa Hospital. Does a Juvia Dragneel live with you?" she asked again and felt impatience rising inside her. She wasn't exactly the most patient person.

"Yes, she is my daughter."

"Ah, all right. I'm sorry to have to tell you, but she was brought in a few minutes ago. My colleagues have already started treatment. When can-"

"We're coming," Mr. Dragneel interrupted her with a deep growl and hung up. The only thing she could hear from the receiver was the sound of a broken connection and her eyes narrowed. She growled quietly and hung up. The nurse behind the reception area moved back a little.

"Rude pack," she growled and started to move again to take care of Juvia as well.

Hours seemed to have passed while Gray was sitting here. He had refused any treatment and could not be forced. His senses were numb, and when he had agreed to wash his hands and face, he had been allowed to wait in front of the room where Juvia had been placed. She was connected to machines that controlled her heartbeat and breathing. Gray didn't even notice that his hands were still shaking and whenever he stared at his now clean hands, he could still see her blood on them.

Steps resounded, reverberating quietly on the linoleum floor. He swallowed lightly and cautiously raised his gaze, staring at the angry face of Natsu Dragneel, her brother. A thick lump formed in his throat and his hands began to tremble even more. Pain burned through his chest and he barely managed to breathe properly.

"What.happened?" his voice was full of suppressed anger as Natsu choked those words out. Gray took a trembling breath. She seemed so fragile as she lay in that big bed and his heart seemed to break. He had never wanted to hurt her so badly. He had only wanted her to stay away from him. Gray had tried to protect her from his father's hatred, had lied about his feelings and had pretended something to everyone. He had also wanted to fulfill his father's expectations, but something like that happened that he hadn't wanted.

"I-I-I ...J-Juv- ...s-she ..." he stuttered and his voice broke away. Uncryed tears were burning in his eyes and his whole body was tense as his hands dug into his dark hair and clung to it. He should have prevented this.

"I-I... I'm sorry," hot tears rolled down his cheeks and dripped to the floor, his body began to tremble. He didn't know what to say to make it better. Everything he did was wrong. Then someone grabbed him by the collar, he was pulled to his feet and pain raced through his chin. Someone then rammed him against the wall in his back. Natsu's normally dark green eyes looked deep black with rage as he pressed Gray against the wall.

"Yes, it's your fault because all you're doing is hurting her. It would be better if you didn't exist at all. And believe me, the only reason you're still alive is that Juvia loves you too much, asshole," he growled.

"Natsu", a soft voice reached both their ears and when Gray slowly released the gaze and looked in that direction, there was a girl standing there. She was incredibly beautiful. She had hip-length, golden blonde hair, chocolate brown big eyes over high, majestic cheekbones, framed by a dense fine eyelash wreath, a pale, honey-gold skin, a female figure others only dreamed of. Even the simple, pink strap dress didn't change anything and didn't like to hide her beauty. But in his eyes she could hardly take on Juvia. Not even now. She seemed to be radiant while standing in the electric ceiling light. Natsu let Gray go immediately and hurried to her side. His knees gave way and he let himself slide down the wall, his hands still trembled and then further steps sounded. Without looking up, he knew the Dragneel clan had arrived. Gray looked up and a doctor came down the aisle, holding a clipboard and a coffee in the other. He looked tired, but most doctors looked tired in that department. While sipping the coffee, he read the papers he had in his hand. He stopped at Juvia's room, looked up, blinked and stared at the many people for a moment. And then Igneel Dragneel stormed towards the poor doctor.

"WHAT IS WITH MY DAUGHTER?" he yelled and before the frightened doctor could escape, the Oyabun of the Dragneel clan grabbed him by the collar. He stood well over the man's head and it was easy for him to lift him up and shake him. Gray stared stunned at the scene. Anger seemed to come out of him in waves. Anger and concern for his daughter lying in that room. Unconscious and connected to machines. Gray again lowered his guilty gaze to the ground, pulling his legs to his upper body. He wanted to sit here until she woke up so he could ask her forgiveness. No matter whether it killed him or not.
