Georgia Holt was born Jackie Jean Crouch in Kensett, Arkansas. She was not only the mother of superstar Cher, but an actress and model in her own right. Among other appearances, she was seen on "I Love Lucy" in "Lucy Gets A Paris Gown" (1956).
She later modeled fur coats on "The Lucy Show" in "Lucy and Pat Collins" (1966). She was also a frequent background player on the series. In the Broadway musical THE CHER SHOW, the same actor who played Cher's mother also played Lucille Ball.
....i can quite confidently say that "the artist's discography shuffled to make a biopic musical" is NOT a genre for me.
Have now seen a few of this type, and it is the biggest n~o~p~e
Like ok, Cher's illustrious career is far too long & varied for just one actress to handle, so having THREE of them was a boon
And yes, there is one full number that is nothing but a parade of colorful gorgeous Bob Mackie costumes. Which is well placed ....contrast this with a different number later where clearly someone was flipping their albums goin "we got a few more minutes to fill but not long enuff for another plot-point. Alright, have her do this song which won't be anything in the plot, only to show off yet another pretty dress & lets us use another Greatest Hit track"
.....but the overall 'plot' progression is by-the-numbers typical biopic cliffs notes (can u time the story beats as the formula visibly floats ahead? Ooh, 5 more minutes and we get the "raaaawr! girl power!" mesg chorus....) which of course of course fudges up couple facts for drama! (gotta keep that tension goin!)
personal annoyances: Bang Bang number flashing lights were aligned at just the right height to blind me. I mean, literally.... the bright white flash at each "bang" was like someone aiming pinpoint precision directly into my brain
The use of Dark Lady for the story point they went with bugged me.
yeah yeah cropping out just a few choice lines to reuse at most basic lvl for a different narrative is the whole point of this type of show...
The dance choreography was beautiful but I prefer what the song's story actually IS to what it was squeezed & remolded into
