engyspy just has so much sexual tension in every single interaction. they know they both have a thing for each other 9000 years before they actually get together, they just choose to acknowledge that information by flustering each other in hopes theyll let something slip instead of just kissing like normal people.

im talking, like... engy pulls spy's collar down to talk to him every time they speak. spy is an endless supply of prissy cigarettes, all of which he lights with his own (still trapped between his back teeth) if engy chooses to accept, which he always does. they both memorize everything they can about the other person: their habits, backstories, feelings on anything and everything, and then they let it slip in regular conversation without breaking a sweat--i know more about you than you'd like, and i know you do, too. a mutual silent acknowledgement of i know you aren't what you say you are.

they do talk, sometimes. bare their souls to each other in confusing, cryptic ways. and anything they don't know can be helped by relentless background checking and record-searching; men like them know how to hide things, but men like them also know how to access what is hidden. there's a mutual acknowledgement of i could metaphorically kill you whenever I wanted, release everything you've ever hidden, use those dangerous secrets against you in all the ways that would hurt the most, but I know you could just turn around and do that to me in exchange and it would be fair. a tenuous balance, or a scorpion and a frog, crossing the river together. neither of them will ever attempt anything resembling that, maybe because of the fear of losing everything they've cultivated so carefully over decades, or maybe because they know that has a higher chance to pull things to an end than they'd prefer

I’m not saying that I think Sketchbook is gonna become canon but I am saying that it wouldn’t a complete out of left field fan service move if they did

Johanna has been established as a lonely character, since moving to Trolberg she hasn’t made any friends and has seemed socially awkward when interacting with others. This has served as a major point of contention between her and Hilda, and since Hilda pointed it out so harshly, coupled with the fact that this is a show about growing up and moving on, I think we can assume Johanna will have some kind of arch about making her own friends so that she isn’t as reliant on Hilda for companionship in Season 3. ONTOP OF THIS we know that she’s. She’s not fucking normal. She was perfectly ok with fighting a Troll in Stone Forest, racing up a cliff face in The Deerfox, sneaking out of the City in The Mountain King and knew exactly how to escape a hungry ass would again in The Deerfox. She also seems to actively enjoy adventuring in Stone Forest, even if she isn’t as well versed in magic and such as Hilda is

Then we have Kaisa - she’s established as socially awkward and someone who doesn’t get out much, she’s deeply insecure about her own abilities but appears to be working to improve her relationship with her mother figure, which could very likely involve…getting out more.

SO ALL I’M SAYING is that we have two characters who are in the process of healing their family relations and who canonically don’t really have any friends and who’s arch’s conclusions could very well involve remedying that. Johanna enjoys adventure even if she doesn’t show it, but doesn’t know much about Magic or anything. Kaisa also enjoys a good adventure, and her insecurities about her magic are only really applicable in the context of the magical world - even if objectively Kaisa is below other witches in rank, Johanna probably hasn’t seen this kind of magic before and would therefore be impressed as hell by things that Kaisa’s considers mediocre

So basically. Them meeting and at least becoming friends would be a satisfying conclusion to both of their arch’s, and would arguably be better than them both making friends with characters that we’ve never seen before and exist solely to be their friends.
