3. what work are you most proud of?
"came in the game," hands down, because i used to think i couldn't write long fics, and i did it when i thought i had nothing creative or worthwhile in me. (on the job market, dissertation defense, post-grad ptsd) also it's a rarepair in a fandom that largely ignores anything beyond Thee Main Ship.
27. what do you listen to while writing?
whatever album is the current earworm.
29. favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
impossible to pick just one. i think i'm hilarious. that being said, this passage from a wereverse WIP continues to make me laugh:
As he’s learned since grad school, third-wave coffee shops are the place to score. Overpriced weed, freaky sex, the occasional cigarette. Ain’t nobody got repression and a dependence on semi-legal substances like a dude who can taste whether his coffee is French pressed or a pour-over. It’s more effort than at a club, sure, convincing some guy you just met that he’s into men and also wants to take you home and let you fuck him nasty, but Cori pulls it off with aplomb. Call him the patron saint of bisexual realization or whatever the fuck. At any rate, he manages to find a PhD student in biochem who is more than happy to swap hours in the lab for an hour exploring his newfound attraction to blondes.
30. biggest surprise while writing this year?
that these WIPs just keep getting longer.

I think a lot about Leo standing up for his brothers in the things that really matter to them.
Like- Leo is the one who immediately pushes Mikey and Donnie into finding Raph the second it’s clear that their oldest brother is missing because he knows Raph can’t handle being separated like that.
Leo is the one who stands up for Mikey when Mikey wants to go on a solo mission, actively vouching for him and being the one to convince Raph into letting Mikey go, because being independent and proving himself just as capable of standing on his own two feet as everyone else means so much to Mikey.
And Leo defends Donnie’s honor in particular when his brothers’ intelligence is insulted because Leo is well aware of how important Donnie’s smarts are to him - and how important having those smarts valued and acknowledged is as well.
All this goes right into just how well Leo knows his brothers. For as much as he’ll tease or fight with them, he knows them, and he loves them.

[ID: a digital illustration in the shape of a scratchy oval. Within the oval, Martin is facing away from the viewer, looking down at something he’s holding close to his chest. He is a large chubby man in a cardigan, with short hair and glasses. Surrounding him is a dark, ghostlike figure, which is probably Jon. It has no facial features except very big eyes that are staring directly at Martin’s face. It is only inches away from Martin and has several thin arms that are clutching Martin tightly on his upper arm, around his hands, and around the back of his head. The figure’s torso and head appear solid, but dissolves into the background at its waist and from where its hair extends upwards and outside of the illustration. There are words at the top that say, “Oh, hello… are you still listening?” End ID]

it makes me really happy to peak into the SIBR server and see people still working really hard at preserving blaseball and cracking it wide open. everyone in there is so talented and the sole reason why we have so much of blaseball still at our fingertips

there's a very specific kind of vibe that comes with living with your friends in final year that it just does not have in first year or even second year. like as a fresher it's usually the first time any of you have lived away from home let alone with SO MANY people your age and it's terrifying and exciting and randomised to boot so it's generally carnage for a whole year in the best and worst ways, and then second year you pick who you're living with and it feels like for the first time you're doing this adult thing PROPERLY. you have a place of your own now. these are the people you've chosen to live with. studying gets serious etc. but it's still fresh. it's still new. you still don't know how to navigate it. but final year? final year is when you actually get it right. you know how to manage your time better. you know what works for you and what doesn't. studying is the main focus and you've been out in the world for three years now and it's not loud and boisterous like it was in first year and you're not exciteable and awkward like you were in second year. you're comfortable. every single one of my flatmates has their own friend group and we mainly keep to our own social circles, but we'll still meet each other back at the house after a night out and sit in the kitchen or my room to do the debrief. sometimes i'll go days not seeing either of them despite sharing a house but every now and then someone will softly call up the stairs that 'the heating's on!' or one of us will sneeze and the other two will yell 'bless you!' through the walls. the lack of interaction isn't interpreted as dislike in ways it would have been even last year, because we're all just old enough to be past that now and settled enough in our friendship not to worry about it. idk. uni is very loud and unsettling a lot of the time so it's been really sweet to see how almost boringly comfortable final year is.

I started poll working in 2020 and I enjoy it for many reasons, it’s a great way to spend Election Day while a) contributing to the system and b) being legally barred from discussing the election in a way that’s really good for stress. But I think above all I love it as a way to spend 12+ hours relentlessly charming women aged seventy and above, aka my number one goal in life at all times always.

if anyone was wondering what my breaking point on this site was, it actually wasn't the alarmingly quick descent of a niche fandom. it wasn't the recreational blogging that began to feel like a job. it wasn't even the lesbophobic anon hate.
it was that goddamn fucking egg post

Is tumblr unusually popular in Poland I feel like that’s the number one non-anglophone producer of tumblr users. Is this just some weird bias on my dash? If so what is it abt me that attracts such a volume of Polish blogs into my blogosphere.

sorry yeah, I wasn't trolling that's why I said it was gonna be out of left field, but your explanation does help. I know it's cross-dressing and it's a performance, I just didn't really get the "why" behind it, (if it helps I also don't get why eminem needed to create slim shady at all) if that makes sense, and I figured I could ask you because I've seen some of your posts about drag queens. And thank you, I really appreciate it!
no problem!! i honestly don't feel like i'm the best person to give a nuanced answer here for the 'why' because i don't do drag and an embarrassing amount of my knowledge about it comes from rupaul's drag race (which is a starting point, but nowhere near the only/most true iteration of drag culture). if you want to learn more, i'd recommend the documentary paris is burning (1990) (it's pretty short!) which talks about the nyc ball scene and has a lot of really great interviews

Ngl working on this chaiflower fic is fun. And not as like, creatively stumping as usual? It takes forever for me to write if I'm not in the mood but I've been consistently adding small bite sized bits throughout the week at my own pace while I worry about life stuff or work on other projects. It makes me feel like I'm actually making progress, no matter how small it is very day.
That said. I'm looking at the current 3k word count knowing with my entire heart and soul it's probably gonna have to be more than like. Double that at the rate this story is going lol.
Gotta love that character introspection and complex relationship interaction.
