parker in the inside job is so real to me
parker, who has had a very complicated relationship with the concept of ‘family’, who blew up her abusive foster parent’s house, who bounced around the foster system before ultimately making a run for it
who was caught pick pocketing a world-renowned thief and taken in under his wing where he molded her into the best thief that ever existed, where he then ‘released her into the world’
archie took her in, yes, but he didn’t really take her in. he kept her at arm’s length, letting her live in empty warehouses and learning how to pick locks and beat security systems instead of going to school or learning what familial love was
he raised her, but only barely
and leverage did a great job of adding subtleties to her to have her come off as neurodivergent, most likely autistic. she was never what society would deem as ‘normal’, especially back then. and then archie tells nate to his face that she would never fit in, not anywhere
(and nate is mad. eliot is mad. rightfully so.)
parker is different from most people, thinks differently and acts differently. but that’s not wrong, and not her fault. but archie couldn’t see past that and take her in as she truly was, not when he had an ‘actual’ family at home. she wouldn’t fit in and that was something he wasn’t willing to risk, try or explain
and then archie calls parker asking for her thoughts on the steranko situation and she doesn’t even hesitate because his family is on the line. his real family. and he’s her father in a way no one had ever been before and looked after her in the only way she knew how and that meant something to her and she couldn’t have something like that happen to him
not on her watch

sometimes I think of all the on-the-surface warm, well-meaning but deeply ineffectual advice and attention john gives harrow through harrow the ninth (make some soup and get some sleep! get a hobby! don't be so hard on yourself! self care harrow! as long as I need take no actual responsibility in this relationship whatsoever I would have loved to be your dad!) set up against the stark truth that with his other hand he has been staging her attempted horrific murder again and again and again like a living nightmare on the logic that it will 'put her down or fix her'. and then I find that I wish there is a hell. a special hell where twitch streamers turned necromantic death emperors go

that ivan loves till is the most obvious thing about them
but. does ivan know that…?
the ivan that regards his own feelings as shallow, the ivan that learned how emotions are expressed only from copying others… does he even know that the love he’s felt for so long is love?
probably not. and part of the reason is the one he loves himself
because the easiest example he has of love is till's feelings to mizi. till outright calls it love, and ivan watches him so much he has to be aware of this
and till’s love to mizi is totally unselfish, right. he doesn’t seem to actually want much from her—just that she's still there and still "mizi"
but ivan can't be satisfied with just watching
he… wants. ivan wants till’s attention, till’s affection—
surely this selfish wanting can’t be love
...no wonder he was never able to express his feelings straightforwardly when he belittles them so much
but he can’t stand not having anything either, so he does… whatever he does instead to get any scraps of attention he can, from someone he's convinced doesn't care about him at all
only showing affection when till can't see it, right until he knows he's going to die
but ivan's feelings for till are all he still has of himself... to think of them as shallow...
I've seen this translated as "I should've been kinder" to him (till) or to her (sua)
but really, the one he should've been kinder to was himself

I want. Four to get appreciation. Because
Four gave a ton of unnoticed help when Twilight was injured
The fight with Wild was difficult, and I know we're all concerned about his negative view of the shadow crystal
But Four did something that no one else really thought of to help- He took care of Twi's stuff
From the beginning he told Twilight to not worry about them
So Four took care of pretty much everything but the others (that Sky and Wars handled)
He took care of Epona
Which is so very important- he took care of Twilight's horse. After her arrival at the stable Four followed up on her
And for Epona, a horse so attached to her human, having some company can help so much for reassurance
He took care of Twilight's stuff
He got Twi's shield- his bags and equipment, and organized it into one place
And he was worried. He obviously found the shadow crystal while handling Twi's stuff, but his negative reactions to it were out of concern.
Also- because of his placement in this scene
I'm fairly convinced Four was ready to start cooking before Wild showed up (since he's beside the counter with food supplies). At the very least he had the basket of fruit out for everyone -but he was literally standing with food behind him- he thought of everything
And he did housekeeping!
Wars payed for the inn, so Four took care of the inn
Realistically these boys were probably not too concerned with tidyness. Four got all of Twi's things on one table, and took care of the room they stayed in
Organizing tables and Twi's things, having food supplies ready, and opening the curtains- overall he was the one tidying up the inn
Four helped in a huge way! He took care of Twi's horse (Epona is so important), his equipment and shield and bag, as well as the other rooms in the inn
Four filled in all the little tasks that others didn't think of. He helped in ways that were needed, but not obvious
There's a lot of problems with the shadow crystal and with Wild, and I don't know what's gonna happen in the future
But don't forget this- don't forget that Four was one who stepped up in an almost unnoticeable way
Don't forget that when everyone was barely holding it together, Four visited Twilight's horse and took care of his things
No matter what develops in the future- this amount of care shown is important ya know?

The most moderate, nuanced and productive people I have discussed the Israel-Hamas war with have been Jews, Israelis, and people with Palestinian family. Everyone directly affected by this just wants it to stop and to have peace and safety in the region in a way that minimises the casualty count.
The most extreme and performative and vile things I've been told are by people who have no connection to this and like to think they are experts because they have covered adjacent topics during learning, or read stuff online.
If all the randos in the west would just shut up for ten minutes and let those of us actually affected, with an understanding of the history of the land and the culture and the generational trauma experienced by Jews and Palestinians alike talk, we might actually have a chance to salvage this and stop it spiraling

Every so often (ever since I read that book about Catholic scientists) I think about the guy who discovered the cause of Down's Syndrome and get very sad.
Jérôme Lejeune did his research because he loved children with Down's Syndrome! He wanted to help them! Discovering the genetic cause was a huge breakthrough, and helping to develop the prenatal test was intended to give parents a chance to prepare for caring for a child with Down's Syndrome.
And then his test was used to kill children with Down's Syndrome.
He got the highest honor in genetics because of it, and he used his acceptance speech to tell the world's assembled scientists that their use of his test was evil. Which made everyone mad and destroyed his chances of winning a Nobel. But he stood for life. He stood for the disabled. He stood for the children. Even at the cost of his career. Because his work intended to save the children he loved was being used to destroy them and how do you deal with that? It just breaks my heart every time I think about it.

Sanji being the only one checking up on Usopp during Water 7 and Enies Lobby makes me ill. The second Luffy and Usopp are arguing and Sanji kicks his own captain for acting that way. The way he snaps at literally everyone. Like-- Okay, everyone was irritable and emotional at the moment because Usopp was leaving. But there's just something about the way they portray Sanji's anger and reaction towards the situation that makes me go insane. It's not only the fact that he defends Usopp at all costs, but also how he's the one verbalizing it too. He cares deeply about him. And I feel Sanji is the one who would look around him to look for Usopp even when he knows he isn't there. And then he finds him again, and the first thing he does is kick Franky for hurting him. No hesitation. "Our long-nose" what do you mean OUR???? He finds the possessive somehow comforting because Usopp is still theirs, no matter what. And then Usopp acts like a proud, stubborn, dramatic idiot. And he wears that stupid Sogeking suit and Sanji is just so done with him but in the most endearing of ways. Then the whole "I'll do what you can't, and you'll do what I can't" thing happens, and it's so important for Usopp's character. It makes him trust in his crew and believe in himself and his abilities and it's Sanji the one saying it because he was with Usopp in Alabasta when Usopp told Chopper "Just do whatever you can". It's just so beautiful. The bond Sanji and Usopp have throughout the series and how much it shows in Water 7 and Enies Lobby that Sanji cares about him in a different way he cares for the others. He wants to protect him but he knows Usopp can do it alone. He protects him when it matters. Sanji understands Usopp because he's been there before, feeling left out, weak, and inferior. Then the whole drama happens yadda yadda yadda. And when Usopp is plotting how to get back to the crew, the one listening is Sanji. He asks himself what is the idiot he has for a friend doing, but he stays to listen to him. To keep an eye on him. He could've just told him to come back right at that moment. Talk to him. But he didn't because he knew this was something Usopp had to do for himself. He just watched his steps carefully and wished for the idiot to come back soon. And you know, I think it's nice to see how Sanji keeps Usopp close all the time.

I've been reading Exodus lately and I've just gotten to the portions where God gives the first commands to the people via Moses (twice), and then goes on to give detailed instructions about the tabernacle and how it should be built, and I'm just... we think art is unimportant?? we think things only mean as much as their functionality?? we so easily fall into the trap of believing that beauty means nothing, that it's cheap and only worth whatever mindless distraction it brings, that it's barely more than a cheap sensual thrill, that buildings should just be practical and plain and cheap, that everything should be functional but ultimately disposable, that paintings and dresses and mugs and curtains and carpets are just pretty but have no real value, that beauty is fleeting and vain and therefore shouldn't be thought about too much, if even looked for at all... we fall into these traps so easily, and we forget that there are chapters upon chapters of painstakingly detailed plans to build one portable worship tent, and those plans have been handed down through thousands of years of human history, because beauty and art and skill in craft is important
