Thirteen is my first ever doctor. I still remember when I was around 10/11 and me and my family sat down to watch the woman who fell to Earth, and that’s when I fell inlove with the show. This era has bought me such joy, has inspired me! It got me back into drawing and now after 5 years I’m planning on studying art in college, all because of thirteens era. Thirteens era also helped me realise my sexuality, lesbian, specifically Yaz. Yaz always bought a comfort to me, I love her so much as a character. I want to thank Thirteens Era for raising me through my teen years. I love Thirteens era, and when it’s over, it’ll never be gone for me <3

ok, so my family aren’t as intense fans of dw, so i’m venting in here.

confession:i’m a new fan- as in i actually only started watching doctor who when the legend of the sea devils came out (enticed by the gay). but i loved it, and i started watching jodie and seeing yaz fall in love with her, seeing that representation onscreen of not just a lesbian romance, but a lesbian romance that had the same problems as every other companion who fell in love with doctor. it wasn’t new (and don’t get me wrong experiences with homophobia and coming etc. is important to show in the media, but so is this). i watched all of 13’s era in about a month, because i loved jodies doctor so much. and i got to see myself represented as just another facet of someone- the doctor had liked women before, why shouldn’t they now. and i can’t explain how happy that makes me (not gonna cry again). and yes i’m mad because we should have got a kiss and an ‘i love you’ but i’m also so greatful for what we did get. seeing them on tv means so much. mainstream, good tv, where they are main characters, developed, multifaceted characters and being queer isn’t their personality. it’s about seeing range on tv: coming out, good and bad, the positives and the negatives, characters with their queerness being central to them and characters where its just a small part of who they are, just there. j keep repeating myself but this era has got me massively into doctor who (it is now a hyper fixation and i have watched all 13 seasons over 4-5 months) and it has meant so much to me. so thank you jodie whittaker, thank you mandip gill. thank you for such an amazing run on such an incredible show. thank you- it means so much to so many people and i really hope you know what an impact you have had.
