She has some aptitude for spellcasting, primarily wind- and water-aspected magicks. Her mastery over such magicks is lacking, to say the least, and Esca has little patience for things she can't control.

Hobbies: Reading, tending to the greenhouse, concocting experimental solutions and potions. Hunting down the ones she thinks are responsible for her mother's suspiciously sudden illness. Daydreaming about how she'll pay them back for humiliating her family. Honestly? She needs more hobbies.

Throwback Thursday ✨

This is from my Malex Secret Santa from last year, it's called Oasis in the Stars, and it's a role reversal where the humans (Alex, Liz and Kyle) crash land on the Oasis.

I really love this fic, and I enjoyed writing it so much! Here's a snippet:

Alex lay in his bed on the ship next to Michael, running his fingers gently over his forearm and watching the way Michael’s eyes looked him over. He breathed in deeply and smiled.

“What?” Michael said softly, scooting his body in just a little closer and reaching out to rest his hand on Alex’s side.

“Nothing it’s just,” Alex said, the unintentional chewing on his bottom lip making Michael smile. “I think I finally figured it out, what you remind me of, the way you smell I mean.”

Michael’s smile grew and his eyebrow shot up. “The way I smell?”

Alex laughed, “Yeah I know it’s weird, and I mean at first I thought it was just this planet but… it’s only really strong when I’m around you.”

“And how do I smell?” Michael said, a humorous lilt to his voice that made Alex’s cheeks gain a rosy glow.

“It took me a while to remember, and then it just… it was like unlocking a memory,” he said. “You smell like, rain, on Earth.”

“I smell like the rain?” Michael chuckled.

“Yeah, but not just the rain, it’s like… it’s like that really specific kind of rain that you get on a summer afternoon, and the sun’s still shining and it’s so light and the rain is warm. And you can look up and there’s not many clouds in the sky, but the rain is still coming down, that smell, sun and rain and just this feeling that… you just can’t help thinking how beautiful the world is that you live in, just for a minute. And you can forget anything else and just, appreciate the beauty of it.”

Michael was silent a moment, his eyes soft and his fingers tightening against Alex’s skin.

“That’s a hell of a memory Manes,” he said.

WIP Whenever!

@mxkelsifer, @mxanigel, @druckkugelschreiber and @anneapocalypse have tagged me in various 'share snippets' memes over the last few days, and I... actually wrote something today! (Post Absolution, taking place in the continuity as my other Orsino Lives works.)

The cottage wasn’t the sort of place Cullen had envisioned Orsino taking as a residence. It was of simple means, with wooden walls and a thatched roof. If anything, it reminded Cullen of the houses of his youth. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise, considering he was in the Hinterlands, but despite being back on Fereldan soil, Cullen had never felt so far from home.

Cullen raised his hand to the door to knock, but it was already ajar. It felt dangerous, perverse, for the former First Enchanter to be so unguarded like this. It hadn’t been this way back in the Circle.

But so many things had changed since then. Everything had changed. Except for the most important thing.

He sighed loudly. He wished it hadn’t come to this, that he didn’t have to be the one to tell Orsino the bad news. But who else was there? Who else knew Orsino’s whereabouts, who knew he was even still alive? The popularity of the dwarf’s book seemed to have overwritten reality even for those who were present. “Cullen,” Orsino’s voice called from inside, “do you intend to brood in my doorway all day? Come in.”

Cullen flushed, pushing his way into the house with heavy footsteps. “How did you know it was me?”

Smiling, Orsino looked up from the teapot in his hands. “I’d recognise that sigh anywhere.”

Currently Reading: Too many books. 😅 A few days ago I started reading the Star Trek Destiny series which I got as a late birthday gift (all three books in one massive chonker of a book).

I’m also still reading Jane Austen’s Persuasion, which I’ve read before but am now struggling to re-read because I know it will destroy me emotionally. 😔

And also I started Ben Aaronovitch’s ‘False Value’ (part of the Rivers of London series) a while ago but haven’t made much progress yet, ooops.

Last Song: Satellite by Rise Against which incidentally is on my playlist for the rockstar AU I’m writing... That’s not why I listened to it, but it always makes me think of that now.

Last Series: The Sandman. Technically I haven’t finished it yet, if you count the bonus ep as belonging to the season. So I haven’t seen Dream as the ultimate poor little meow meow yet. 😔

Last Movies: Uuuuuum. Well. You see. I don’t watch many movies, because who even has the attention span for that. 😬 So yeah, I honestly don’t remember. 😅

Currently Working On: Too many things. 💀 I was recently tagged to give the names of my WIPs and, well. It’s a list™. Though I’m mostly working on the high school AU, the witch/familiar AU and the rockstar AU.

god I'm so fucking furious at the removal of Te Reo Māori names from organisations around Aotearoa. it's a complete non-issue, every organisation has the English name directly underneath the Māori name. I have never once as an English speaker been unable to understand what an organisation is for. Winston Peters, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is literally Māori himself, said “Te Papa is a historic name but tell me this waka kotahi, how many boats have you seen going down the road?”. Waka does not just mean canoe. it means vessel, and waka kotahi (the transport agency of Aotearoa) explains this VERY SIMPLY on their official website. waka kotahi means to travel together as one. Can you see how fucking upsetting this is. A Māori person in power who is in agreement about banning his own language, being so cocky about something that he does not even understand due to the suppression of the language of his people. It makes me sick. I've seen reports from Māori people all over Aotearoa speaking out about how upset and furious they are, how decades of progress have been undone in the fight to restore the rights of their people who have for so long been oppressed and have suffered the effects of colonisation. Please share this if you can, I hate knowing how few people will hear about this, I know there is so much injustice in the world right now and it is so exhausting, I know. I love you all, keep it up.
