YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aemond calls her 'Lae' - it stems from a lazy joke that Aegon made about her being called 'Hel', because she is his Hell. After that, Aemond swore he'd never call her Hel again, so Lae it is.

After claiming Vhagar, Aemond went to Viserys and Alicent to request that Helaena be betrothed to him instead (despite the betrothal being set in stone). Both Viserys and Alicent denied him. He came at it from a point of view of duty - that he would provide for her and protect her - rather than desire/emotion, as he was aware that if his parents suspected his true motivations and denied him, it would mean barriers would be put in place of his relationship with Helaena. Neither of his parents seemed to think that he did it out of anything other than duty. He put up somewhat of a fight at first, but he accepted their refusal fairly quickly because at the end of the day, they're his parents. Helaena was upset about it for a long time.

They didn't sleep together until a few years into her marriage with Aegon. It was emotionally messy, and they both wept during and after. But it got better, and they were able to channel their passion quickly

The twins were born long before the two of them began the physical aspect of their relationship, but Maelor is likely Aemond's. As Aegon only came to Helaena when he was drunk, she was able to make sure that he didn't spend inside her for the most-part. Of course, she loved all of her children equally, and it didn't matter that the twins were Aegon's and Maelor was Aemond's.

There was always an understanding that they loved each other more than in a brother/sister way. They were always close, and it was never a secret between them that it was deeper than normal siblings. It made them incredibly dependent on one another.

Aemond draws a sense of calm both from her and for her. He knows how the slightest sign of conflict forces her to retreat into herself and he fights with himself to keep control of his emotions around her. In turn, her calm soothes him, and makes it almost easy.

Helaena draws bravery from him. He is steadfast and strong and silent in his support of her. It makes her feel brave.

When they're apart, his grasp on peace is greatly diminished. His greatness teeters into madness without her balance - the coin is flipped. Without him, she retreats into herself and no one can guide her back out. The Riverlands burn for it - and so too does Kings Landing.

hello! i love your blog and your 'for the thesis' tag is especially intriguing to me (i'm very curious about medieval literature and history); would you be willing to talk a little about what your thesis is about, if you're comfortable with it? no problem if not! have a nice day :)

SO the short answer is that I’m tackling various adaptations of Arthurian works through an ecocritical and racial lens.

The long answer is all of that, but with more detail, lol. I have a couple through-lines in my adaptations insofar as the histories they’re building upon— I’m tackling Le Morte d’Arthur by Malory, so I’m also tackling Tennyson’s Idylls of the King and TH White’s The Once and Future King. I’m looking at Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, so I’d also like to tackle The Green Knight (2021) (I might scrap that though, sadly) and, though this doesn’t as much fit into these two camps, I think Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Buried Giant slots in quite well with the concerns of SGGK. There are other works that I’m interested in too, though I don’t know to what extent or how much time I’ll be afforded: there’s a really interesting amount of adaptations of Chaucer’s the Wife of Bath’s Tale, with all that it holds, and I’d like to see if I can include Patience Agbabi’s Telling Tales and Zadie Smith’s The Wife of Willesden, which both adapt the story into a modern context, with a stronger focus on race— which is super interesting to me on the racial lens more than the environmental!

In an overarching sense, my thoughts are centered around the construction of capital-N Nature, nation and empire (you see this very heavily in Idylls of the King, unsurprisingly) through Arthurian legend as well as how those ideas are both corrupted (see The Buried Giant, The Green Knight) and boldened by adaptations, as well as the specific connections between empire and environment and how those lay the groundwork for thoughts around race.

The theoretical texts I’m working with are primarily Jeffrey Jerome Cohen’s Stone: An Ecology of the Inhuman, Iman Jackson’s Becoming Human: Matter and Meaning in an Antiblack World, Timothy Morton’s Hyperobjects: Philosophy and Ecology After the End of the World, Rob Nixon’s Slow Violence and the Environmentalism of the Poor, and Kathryn Yusoff’s A Billion Black Anthropocenes or None. I’m delighted to talk more about how these texts fit into my critical work, but this answer is already long enough lol!!!

I’m particularly curious about how/why adaptations of Arthurian legend are so concerned with nature and the environment (see The Once and Future King), and what about Arthurian legend makes it such a heady and rich place for analysis and environmentally concerned fiction. How does the constructed and real history of the UK/Britain/England as reflected through Arthuriana reveal anxieties and insights on environmental changes of the time? Can the fall of King Arthur’s court be used today as a metaphor for species extinction? Is the Anthropocene- and all the dicey territory that comes with such a term- in Camelot? Is the Holy Grail a Hyperobject? Where do Hyperobjects appear in Arthurian adaptations? How does environmentalism interact with race in these adaptations, and in their historical situations?

My thesis tag is a little misleading insofar as there are quite a couple posts in there that don’t really have anything to do with my thesis in particular, but rather just remind me of it and the stuff I’m working on!!!

honestly both of these would probably work best in movie form because the story is pretty contained for both of them. and for both i would be willing to allow live action however i really prefer 2D animation LMAO. i think a live action dead rites would actually be pretty good—after the new interview with a vampire show i have faith that vampire media on screen can be just as homoerotic and ridiculously sexy and dead rites just has that vibe for me.

for vdtrt it’s to make any of the characters with dark skin have pale skin. like i literally do not care if it says vampires like half the cast is dark skinned please don’t do this to me

similar vibe in dead rites bc beau is dark skinned however i’m more worried about someone trying to take away the fact that n is very obviously trans masc. he has top surgery scars, he has binders laying around his house, he hasn’t had bottom surgery (which is important to note bc he and beau fuck at one point), he takes t—like idk pls. let my trans masc boy be trans masc 😔

🎤—Describe the opening scene

dead rites it would be really cool to have a one take shot of the busy news office that n works in. following n as he grabs coffee, as people stop him to ask about new stories going out and giving exposition about vampires and why everyone is in a flurry because dick lindsey (that politician) was just shot and is n leaving to go do some field research?? and seeing how in his element n is and how confident he is. the rush of papers and flurry of movement and chaos of people talking as we just follow n through the small office would be awesome to me. itd end with n standing outside on the big city streets, taking in a breath of air and being like “alright, time to work” or some snappy line like that

vdtrt would start in the same way as the book with darren going to get olice from school. simply bc in the beginning on the road as they’re driving home there’s some good exposition AND they technically run into the medium bad within the first five seconds of being on the road (a dude with wavy white hair appears in the middle of the road then disappears and darren’s like ??? tf) and so idk i want that moment to be like mad tense bc darren nearly runs into him. with humor tho bc darren does crack jokes and he does yell at a angry cabby as well lol

It normally depends on what type of sim they are. I always try to base their style/aesthetic on their personality or where they live. Cause Circe had a grunge-y look as a teen but now she’s moved to Sulani, I gave her a beachy vibe.

8. How do you build/design your sims’ homes?

I tend to think about what sim I’m moving into the home. Then I try to match their aesthetic with decor and wallpaper etc

11. What type of pack are you hoping they make next?

FAIRIES. I really really want fairies to be added to the game.

I am VERY normal about him

ON A SERIOUS NOTE oh my GOD I love him. Probably in my top 5 characters I love him so so much I don’t even have the WORDS but I will try !!

I also love Yoriichi’s relationships that he has in the series. I know it’s really just with Kokushibo/Michikatsu, a Rengoku ancestor, Uta and the Kamado family, but they leave an incredible impression on me. I love the parallels between him and Kokushibo as someone who was born gifted but had everything taken from him and still chose kindness until he died, vs someone who was born average but was given everything and still chose hatred until he died. They’re tragic, but I love what they represent as a demon slayer and a demon (I also love how they compare to the Tokito twins but that’s for another day). Him and Uta are also terribly tragic to me, but they were honestly such a beautiful love story before she died, and it really does strengthen my love for both of them since I really, really just wanted to see them happy.

The Kamado family gets a whole paragraph to themselves because GOD their relationship to Yoriichi is one of my absolute favorite parts of the series. Because Yoriichi doesn’t need to befriend them, they’re everything he doesn’t have literally living in his old home; a happy family including children living a humble, simple life. He doesn’t need to do anything beyond saving them, he could’ve been bitter and resentful, but he wasn’t, and in turn made one of the most beautiful friendships kny has to offer. He truly loves the Kamado family, and they are one of the only senses of normalcy he can have in his life. He visits them often enough that they feel comfortable leaving their child with him, they house him, they sit and listen to his problems with genuine care and love, they want to see him happy because he obviously makes them happy as well. Sumiyoshi obviously loves Yoriichi, as Tanjiro can feel in his inherited memories, and even if we weren’t told it then, we know it by the way he was determined to memorize and pass down sun breathing as a dance in their family to honor and remember him. LIKE TELL ME THAT ISN’T THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FORM OF LOVE!! He didn’t do it because Yoriichi was a god among them, he didn’t do it because Yoriichi commands respect, he did it because Yoriichi was his dear friend, and he loved him so much. And Yoriichi, as we know from him leaving his gifted earrings behind, loved him and his family right back. They helped him heal, they helped him accept himself, and he would unknowingly save not only their kin but the whole of humanity by that love.

kaz who is YOUR favorite oc?

don't make me choose they are all my sweet baby children who i love with my whole soul i could never pick just one to be my favorite i have a special little place in my heart for them all..........

one of my favourites is one i haven't played in a long time but she's a genderfluid mutant who has the power of shapeshifting & she's a mystique based oc. he switches between whatever body and appearance he feels like fits his gender in that moment and i absolutely love that for him so much. my fave part is the dichotomy between her being an absolute fucking sweetheart who collects trinkets for people and writes people notes to make them smile and bakes them cookies - but also won't hesitate to unalive anyone who even hints at being anti mutant or oppose their cause. nobody does duality like us genderfluid folks.

another one of my faves is a tragic himbo who has a sad story but is still full of life and brightness because he learned to make others happy as a coping mechanism. he wants to be a fashion designer and artist and literally just wants to make people happy through art because it helps him deal with all the sadness and hurt he has inside his soul - which is particularly important because he is in witness protection so the only time they let their darkness show is in their art ~ oh and he basically raised his lil sister and their relationship is very very precious to me.

the third and final fave i'll mention is a sweet ghost girldad who was framed for the murder of his husband and is haunting the world trying to prove his innocence to his (also a ghost) husband and take care of their daughter. he spends most of his time just watching over her as she plays and scaring the other kids at the orphanage if they are ever mean to her by playing a "boo ghost" role to them.... i love him very much but he makes me very sad.

like i said, i can't choose - i have so many that i adore.

you can figure out what it's saying if you put in the time. that's why so far engie, who works closely with pyro, is the best at understanding it and often acts as an interpreter to the rest of the team

as for how pyro's insides work, i'm not sure. torn between a series of bladders (like kif from futurama) or what i can only describe as "a gyo situation."

no one knows whether she was born or made or simply materialized, least of all pyro, so instead of a birthday the mercs (well, mostly engie) celebrate her "mercday:" the date she started working for mann co (the only thing NOT redacted in her file). everyone makes a birthday cake and then puts it in the oven to burn. it's not a true mercday until the kitchen goes up in flames

has a soft spot for scout (and scout has a soft spot for him). this was inspired by the winglet's SFM "an australian christmas bloody miracle" because i think it's kind of cute

constantly calling scout "cunt" and constantly having to walk it back because that word sounds REALLY harsh to american ears. oddly enough soldier doesn't mind it and has even started calling scout a cunt too

one of the smartest guys on the team and a pretty good tactician when it comes down to it (pretty much basing this on the "meet the demo" video)

you, sofa, know about this one, but i'll repeat it for the rest of the class: demo is a HUUUUGE history geek and he goes to renaissance faires with sniper (where else are you going to find a bowyer and a fletcher?) and sometimes scout (where else are you gonna find nerdy chicks and turkey legs the size of your head?)

It is very (genuinely and fondly) amusing to me that you say this, considering I have twice as many Genshin Impact fics posted on AO3 as I do Hazbin Hotel ones, hahaha. Plus like a dozen more sitting in my drafts that I'll slowly set free from zine prison:

I think the sheer length of time I spent in the Genshin fandom + the fact that I was in, like, over three dozen zines that were mostly Genshin made it feel like the most significant fandom that I've been a part of in the past couple of years. Especially since having so many contributor copies of zines means my wall is plastered with Genshin prints and other merch!

Anyway, I don't really play anymore, but I very well may get back into it in the future! I stopped at the beginning of Fontaine, basically, though I fucking love Furina.

My favorite characters are, in no particular order: Furina, Childe, Xiao, Scaramouche, and Albedo! (That's a lie, Albedo is my true favorite forever. But the rest are in no particular order, hahaha.) There are a lot of other characters that I adore, though.

what got you into jondami?

It’s kind of hard to remember because it happened like…freshman year of high school, but I think I stumbled across Jorge Jimenez’ cover art on Pinterest and I was like “oh?” Because I love to draw and look at composition—Pretty soon I looked into who they were and their backstories and just fell in love with Damian’s tragedy and Jon’s kindness, and how they both have a little of each in themselves that other people don’t realize right away (or ever) that they bring out when they’re together. Got myself some Supersons comics and Damian’s run and it was endgame right about then and there ❤️
