hi i just wanted to say im genuinely obsessed with the way you draw thighs + hips + butts + the crotch region in general. thank you for your service and if you have any suggestions or resources id adore them

hi, thank you! i have a lot of fun drawing those bits so i'm glad the fun comes through :)

i can def take a crack at some notes on how i construct stuff, but especially with this general pelvis area i think a lot of how i draw it is very much individual stylization -- so what i'll go over is definitely not any kind of anatomy tutorial or step-by-step or anything like that, and i also wouldn't even really call these notes suggestions on how to draw this stuff. my real suggestion is what it always is, which is to get into anatomy studies/figure drawing first, then decide how you want to stylize starting from that foundational info! also, while i don't usually lean into this a lot in my own style, the musculature of the thighs is a lot more complex than you might expect, so it can be useful to look at more detailed anatomical diagrams in addition to just studying from models. but i hope seeing how i often do it myself is still helpful in some way!

so, for starters, and i mean this totally seriously: a lot of what i get complimented on in my art is stuff i specifically draw with horny intent, lmao. i'm not at all saying you have to be horny to get good but i think you get results from fun + fixation, because when you care a lot about the details and when you care about capturing specific stuff that you're excited about (in any way), that comes through in your drawings. so when ur deciding on how to stylize, pay attention to what little details about ur area of focus are really cute/interesting/appealing to you, and find ways to emphasize that!

honestly part of that means focus on posing as well as whatever you're doing with anatomy/stylization -- i have a thing i affectionately call the "ira neck thrust" that my friends are constantly calling me out for and it's basically just the tits and ass back arch that i'm so fond of. of course u end up noticing how i draw this area when i'm constantly drawing attention to it and making things cheesecake-y specifically to show it off, lol!

beyond that i think the summary of the rest of the notes is just to find ways to lay things out so that it's easy for you to place the shapes and details you want to stylize/emphasize. i like drawing thighs with pronounced upper muscle; i often stylize the lower half of the torso + hips with multiple repeating curves to emphasize that shape. i love hip creases and visual cues on how the thighs are moving, so i usually don't miss an opportunity to draw those in (and to pose/costume in a way that specifically shows it off, again). my anatomy in this area is usually so stylized and unrealistic that, while of course i make a lot of these decisions from a foundation of figure drawing, a ton of the actual impact/final look is just coming from style choices!

(i also only have time to throw together one example, but these things should still generally ring true for bodies of any type/size; "bony" landmarks exist regardless of weight and will show up on larger bodies as areas where tendons + muscle anchor to the bone, which can have a lot of influence on folds + the shapes of body fat, and it's always a good idea to study reference and decide from there how to stylize. "morpho: fat and skin folds" is a great anatomy book for this.)

i feel like this is all i have energy 2 throw together at the moment and it's so specific to how i draw that i'm not sure how helpful it'll be lol but!! maybe i will come back to this another day if i think of anything else. also i guess here is one final summary of why i think this method works for me

what's your process for coloring like? the look of that elendira is so textured and interesting, i can't figure out how you do it

AA THANK YOUU ^__^ !! textures & brushwork are my favorite things abt my art, so im happy you find it interesting hehe . its SOO cool to look at & so much fun to draw imo

i prefer to color by building in layers , if that makes sense 🤔!! hundreds of them !! such that i'm always drawing on Top of previous layers, working from big & messy blocks of color to, eventually, small and refined blocks of color until it feels processed enough. as a result, i rarely ever erase (!!) and i rarely ever draw lineart aside from the initial sketch

a rough, patchy textured brush is key here, as it'll give you dimension and variability w/ your colors. i recommend "Brush and various sets of fountain pen style (万年筆風ブラシと色々セット)" on Clip Studio (ID: 1679706) !! :3

im terrible with explanations though, so i'm going to show a step by step of that elendira drawing if you dont mind :3

sketch layer !! because i mostly render through color alone, i try to make this as close to the finished thing as possible . ^__^ i hateee drawing the same thing over and over and like the expressivity and movement of my sketches anyways , so the more i can preserve at this step, the better. if u were to look at a side by side of my sketches and finished pieces, youd notice a lot of those og lines are present in the final drawing :3

2. flats !! pretty self explanatory, but the solid background gives me an idea of where the figure begins & ends while the colors themselves help distinguish whats what . i stick to ambient lighting @ this point because im usually not sure what i want to do with the overall palette or lighting yet . having two tones (ex, dark and light in her hair or dark and light on her skin) can also help in identifying key features early on that u wanna preserve. as you build layer by layer, sometimes these areas will remain untouched and i think it makes for a rly lovely feel at the end

3. start blocking !!! to be totally honest with you, i dont really know what i do here HAHAHA. like i just scribble the shit out of it, usually focusing on what i might want to do with lighting (ex: grey areas to accentuate folds in her costume). i think i like to start "erasing" the sketch where possible by coloring on top of it .. like if you look at her hat or her arm , you can tell i'm starting to get a sense of the shapes i like vs the ones i dont. it's at this point that the final image starts to emerge in my mind , like im gradually pulling her from a tarpit of scribbles until shes recognizable lol. chipping away at the marble until i can free her. tbh.

4. keep blockingg...when u think u are done , block some more . as you can probably see, the brushwork becomes more intentional as i add more shape, with specific focus on line weight. this is also where the patchiness of that textured brush comes in - notice how none of the colors seem totally uniform (ex: the red cross or the original sketchlines for her waist). you can see bits and pieces of the layers underneath pushing through and i really like that !! ^__^ its very fun and sketchy to me, so i try to keep them around. those areas are also great to colorpick from, because it'll give you "new" colors to work w/ that are already part of your palette.

5. GRADIENTS & GRADIENT MAPS !! TONE CURVE !! COLOR PICKER !! this is the best stage tbh. flatten your image so its all on one layer and just go crazy with all the color settings in ur program. add gradient layers and set them to darken, or overlay, or subtract, orrr. lighten or dodge glow or divide or soft/hard light.! OR!! edit the hue, saturation, luminosity and contrast.and then color pick from these edits, block even more on top of ur image, flatten, color edit again, etc. etc. until u feel satisfied.

ANYWAYSS . i hope that makes sense @__@ sry i wrote this out and deleted it like 23 times trying to make it make More sense but thats what ive got HAHA i hope its useful though :3 !

Your Raindrop fics and drawings are so good!!! I noticed in Shotgun there was a quick mention of water ghoul Dew. I know people have so many different thoughts and ideas around Dew's element change from water to fire, I wondered what your faveourite head canons/thoughts around Raindrop and the element change are? So interested to see your take on it!!!

regarding dews element change, i hc it as something (sadly) forced upon him by the upper clergy, and that it takes him a while to heal from it. he goes thru a lot of physical and mental and emotional changes with it, and when rain is summoned, hes still in a lot of pain and dealing with accepting himself like that.

both of them are extremely drawn to each other even from the moment rain is summoned but dew doesnt allow himself the comfort for a long time. thankfully rain keeps reaching out to him, keeps trying to be there for him.

eventually dew gives in a little, when the pain is really bad and hes way too hot, rain is the perfect cooler which starts him sleeping in rains room (hehehe) all curled up together. rain helps him a lot from there, offering his cold hands to help dew cool down, keeping him company when he cant sleep, and they start talking of course, getting to know each other.

dew gets really bad migraines from the change, and rain, who knows dew loves piercings, is the one who researched and discovered the daith piercing which helps with migraines and encouraged dew to get it

rain is the first one to Fully see dew after the change, even tho he never got to see dew as a water ghoul, he still knows its meaningful to be allowed to see all of dews scars and he falls heaaaad over heeeels. he tells dew that hes beautiful and that helps dew start feeling more comfortable with his new appearance, even starting to let the other ghouls see him with his hair up (so they can see the gill scars)

rain is also the one dew feels the most comfortable being in the water with, he used to play in the rain but after the change it made him feel really distant. but after rain is summoned, he loves playing in the rain and now its one of their favorite things to do together. when its raining in the middle of the night, and rain wakes dew up so they can dance outside together, sharing sweet kisses

i love ur zine work && am rlly interested in making one myself! i’m curious how you go about creating yours, specifically are they “storyboarded”/pre-written at all or do you just start with an idea & draw n write from there directly on the zine?

ive only made 2 of them ever so take this as you will LOL. i drew them both directly onto paper with a ballpen without any sketching since id been itching to physically make somthing for once. i did have a scrap piece of paper/sticky notes on hand in case i messed up & for NETHING NETHING i thought it fit very well.

& yeah with both of them i just started with a broad idea of what i want to express & a name that fits. i began both of them with the cover page because i found that was an easy &fun jumping off point (& a place to ground the ideas in).

i let the theme flow however it wanted to pretty much. i didn't plan any page past like the next one or two. Horror Vacui was fun because i was working with a marker that bled thru the construction paper i was using, so a lot of the page layouts were made to fit whatever ended up on the other side. would recommend.

i didn't have an ending in mind til the last few pages either, but its probably a good idea to know on what note you want to both start & end on. but u can also do anything. which is what i had fun doing.

if you know you like planning out everything then you should follow ur heart & plan out everything. have fun. alternatively you can improvise everything if you want to try something new. im not sure if i should say it's an inherently imperfect medium, but messing up and finding ways to embrace (or bury) your fuckups can be part of the fun. & it was for me. if it really doesn't work out you can always tear it up throw it away delete the file or something. but u gotta start another one. for me

i have this horrible habit of talking about something for like one sentence and then never elaborating, so thank u so much for reminding me about these!!!

CUPID YUKI!!!! could you imagine?? i think she'd be such a good cupid honestly cause i feel she's got a pretty good judge of character, like she can spot pairings that most wouldn't!!

i think for this specifically, i'm imagining a reader still in college (im projecting my lack of love life here, but i think this really adds a bit more angst imo because college is like supposedly meant to be romance central but for the reader and just doesn't seem to be!!) . although i can't make up my mind about whether or not yuki's undercover as a normal person or just a straight up mythical being who can choose whether or not to be seen by normal humans.

anywho, ,, YUKI IS BEING SO OBVIOUS ABOUT WANTING YOU. as soon as her interest is piqued, she knows what to do. this is her job, of course she knows what to say, how to act, and how to draw someone in. BUT YOU'RE JUST NOT GETTING IT.

the confession/when they finally get together scene is SOOO heated when i imagine it because it's so much pent up energy just exploding after so long. yuki is tired of the chase at this point and is just DYING over the fact that you still don't feel needed and wanted by her. like it's physically killing her!!

- My Wii U ID is "LiterallyMiyu" and my main Mii is a redesigned Miyu. It would've been me with my name or similar to it, but the Wii U I got was japanese, and I was trying so hard to make it play games that weren't from the japanese region.

I kept resetting it so many times, it got to the point where I got tired of making my Mii again and again, so I said "screw it" and made my main Wii U Mii this goofball.

The end result was me modding my Wii U 'cuz I couldn't get anything to work. Thanks, region lock.

bit obsessed with ur mercedes girl driver drawings. first of all because they r pretty. second of all because they r for sure the most interesting changed dynamics. lewis being one of the most accomplished drivers of ALL TIME and being a black woman?? from the 2000s - 2020s??? i dont even want to imagine the press attention. and girl!george is just delicious. terrorist/women-can't-drive jokes off the charts. would 100000% be called boring in the specific way that serious women are. pls give me ur thoughts. that is my fave girl drivers art mwah.

hi!! thank u so much!!!! first of all so very very happy u like my art!! ive rly been loving the new rule63 trend - if i were cockier id say maybe i had smth to do w it but the truth is i genuinely believe a lot of us woke up simultaneously and thought 'i NEED to draw or write girl drivers'

so then re: the story aspect of it. a fun fact i havent rly talked abt on here is that my girl driver series is actually inspired by an au of mine - thing is tho that my au is actually a sex swap, rather than 'always been a girl' the way ur suggesting. so like u bring so many good points and im sooooo eating devouring ur thoughts on what fem!lewis and fem!george would look like in the greater f1 circus narrative, at the same time that rly wasn't what i was thinking of in the first place? in my au uh. half the grid r accidentally cursed bc of a helmut marko interview in which hes asked whether a gender equality initiative like extreme e where the grid would b 50% female would work in f1 and he says 'in my opinion half of them are already women as it is' - hence the sex swap curse for 10 of the drivers. so while there IS a sort of attempt to engage w the patriarchy in my au too (the loose idea is that the drivers who r swapped r the ones marko believes to b girls / pussies etc, with max being one of them, and then the rbr inner conflict fully explodes bc it would) i didn't actually write it (& later on draw it) with actual female drivers in mind, especially not the way their history would b different if their gender was different

but yeah, that's pretty much what the context was - but bc the fic was too ambitious for me (at the time and to this day still tbh) i needed to channel that creativity somewhere else and started drawing a bunch of them instead. hence the series. which is why im loving that u guys r taking it to ur own creative destinations!!! so anon ik u came looking for answers but id love it for YOU to come back to my askbox (or ur own posts or fics!!) w ur own ideas abt fem!merc
