Arlecchino’s side of it really gets me in particular bc it’s like yes sure #abolishThatChildSoldierOrphanage and yes these kids r being raised to be child soldiers but I truly just love Cycles of Abuse Arlecchino who was raised in this inherently fucked up system she is just kind of permanently tethered to and molded by bc it was the only thing that caught her as a severely traumatized child society failed. and now all she is really equipped to do is uphold it as this often sole means of survival these really abandoned children have, and just make it something that they’ll actually survive, even if the survival in question is being a child soldier without much choice outside that

I think a lot about how it’s reasonably implied by canon to my knowledge she was really like, 17-19…maybe a max of 20 years old when she took in Lyney, Lynette (+Freminet by succession). She’s absolutely the adult in the situation compared to them but that is also really, really young especially for someone who was thrust into this leader n parental position directly after a childhood informed by basically nothing but abuse & suffering. I don’t even mean this in like a softening of Arlecchino being a “good or bad person” but this layer of it fascinates me a lot bc I think it conceptualizes the bounds of if/how she is emotionally able to care or love her children

I think ultimately lyney’s dialogue here really summarizes it:

None of them know what a real home or family looks like…not the children or the person leading them

This is such a tangent post I just love what they did with it! Its so fucked up! I think it’s messed up they all seem to genuinely care for each other but it is really a kind of care that is only “acceptable” or works bc it’s the best they’re all able to really imagine after coming from such horrible and dysfunctional circumstances. Its like how some animals should be free in the wild and are not suited for domestication but were so dependent on human intervention in how they were raised they can’t be rehabilitated into the wild where they belong unless u literally burned their upbringing out of them

I feel Arlecchino states many times over she doesn’t go out of her way to make the children indebted to her or invested in her, I think she’s purely just hoping to ensure some form of stability & survival for all involved by any means or lack of ethics necessary. Just so messed up and fun to think about!! Most normal family of orphans

I love Arlecchino and her dynamic with the House of Hearth children and really to me its less a manner of a binary of how “healthy/toxic” it is and more like this really fascinating situation of “found family” where there is an inherent moral dilemma in how much of a Choice really has in choosing said family when things are so dire for them being adopted into a Child Soldier Orphanage is genuinely a “Best Case Scenario” for them

Its not even like “Nahida is the one needs therapy” to inverse it I think she should just in gauge with mutual multi hour long philosophical discussions with Wanderer or Furina or Kaveh or whoever where there’s a back and forth exchange of Respective Trauma Discussion where it’s just healthy to talk about it with someone who intuitively is going to be able to understand the experiences

I think this is what Nahida needs. I also need other people to just do random thoughtful interpersonal acts of kindness towards her like Wanderer making her lunch while she’s working or something so she gets emotional support and treated like a person for once in her life. I love this radish. She makes me cry

the Columbia University arrests are worse than they seem. They're arresting protesting students for trespassing. It goes without saying students cannot meaningfully "trespass" in the common areas of a university they attend. So Columbia University has suspended all student protestors from their institution, in the process revoking their access to housing, their belonging, and most crucially damaging their academic futures. We are witnessing full scale silencing and removal of anyone of conscience from the next generation of academia.
