2020 HIGHLIGHTS ✨

rules: list your top 10 shows (bl or not) you watched in 2020 (doesn’t necessarily have to be shows that came out in 2020 though!)

1. 2GETHER & STILL2GETHER

my first thai drama, and even after all the amazing shows i’ve watched this year, it still has a special place in my heart. watching 2gether was the first time i’d ever seen a queer romcom that just... was. for me, by the simple fact of its being, 2gether was revolutionary. and then still2gether came along and took all the best things about the first season and gave us something beautiful and quiet and lovely and just proved to me, once and for all, that queer happiness doesn’t need to justify its own existence. there can be gay cuddles on the beach for no other reason than that we want them.

2. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

i don’t really have the words for this one but. it makes my heart so very soft.

3. FRIEND ZONE 2: DANGEROUS AREA

season one was mindless fun because everyone was an absolute trashfire and it was hella cathartic to watch, but season 2... wow. i love it for so many reasons: it has messy and authentic queer rep; the characterisation is excellent and i somehow care about all of the characters; amazing women taking centre stage(!); a wlw relationship with lesbian, ace and bipolar rep; multiple interesting plotlines; actual character development; arm weerayut as a chaos gremlin... absolutely one of my favourites of 2020.

4. CHERRY MAGIC

i don’t think i need to explain this one, which is fortunate, because i have no idea how exactly i’d describe the happy-warm-fuzzy-queer-seen-loving-affirmed-profound feeling that rises in my chest whenever i think about it.

5. THE GIFTED: GRADUATION

confession: i liked season 2 more than season 1 (with the exception of the ending, which we don’t talk about). season 1 was enjoyable and interesting, but for me it was season 2 which made me love this series. it did some incredibly interesting and complicated things (even if it didn’t quite nail the landing): it pushed characters to the breaking point and wove so many layers into the story and questioned its own underlying themes. plus, watching it alongside everyone in the fandom made it 200% better. i love all of you and i love this show. egg girl 5eva.

6. THE SHIPPER

i 100% understand why so many people didn’t like this show, or found it problematic, but through some fluke it absolutely worked for me (even the ending). one day i will write an essay explaining my rationale, but for now i’ll just say that it’s one of my favourite shows about adolescence and queerness and identity and compassion and friendship and love that i’ve ever watched.

7. YYY

this series is absolutely off its rocker, and it somehow managed to be one of the most affirming shows i’ve watched. it shouldn’t have worked by it did, and i love it so much.

8. 3 WILL BE FREE

absolutely iconic. amazing plot, stunning visuals, great characters, canon polyamory, jennie being incredible... what a series.

9. MANNER OF DEATH

i love the fact that this show exists; i love the mix of crime and romance; i love maxtul’s acting; i love the central relationship; i love bun. i know we’re not even halfway through yet, but this show is doing something special and i’m so grateful that i get to watch it unfold in real time.

10. CHIHAYAFURU (SEASON 3)

odd one out on my list, but I had to include it. chihayafuru is my all-time favourite anime and it finally got a third season, which is somehow even better than the first two. mashima taichi is one of my favourite characters of all time and his storyline hits me on such a profound level. plus, in the years since i first say this show i’ve fallen in love with classical japanese literature (particularly heian poetry) so i had newfound appreciation for the karuta matches (aka i cried every time someone recited one of my favourite poems)

other favourites: together with me, he’s coming to me, sotus and sotus s, my dear loser: edge of 17, why r u, theory of love, wake up chanee!, gameboys, pearl next door, uta koi (anime), three kingdoms (2010), blood and water (netflix). (itsay would almost certainly be on my list if i’d had time to watch it. same with dark blue kiss, which i had to pause so i could do my assignments)

Final Thoughts

well, it’s been... a year (i don’t think anyone needs a reminder of the details) but writing this post has reminded me of all the amazing shows and people I discovered over the course of it.

... I..oh how to begin? Ok so to be honest with you all and some of you already know this but I was just here for the pretty boys (who just happens to be Thai too, just my luck right?) I didn't think that this year was gonna turn out this way and I was slipping into my old bad habits. This show right here was so simple and so cute was just the thing I needed at that time.

My one thing in life that I thought I was good at was art and so I tried my best to made some edits for you all to enjoy and I was expected a few nice reblogs and notes and nothing more but I DID NOT EXPECT ALL THIS LOVE AND SUPPORT that came with me opening up about myself and having this blog up and running again. I am OBSESSED with this concept - I’m not big touchy myself and I read this and i was just like “.......nut” it’s like a cute little piece and I hope ya like it! also hi my name’s betty apparently i’m a luke blog now.......... breadstick boy what have you done

Luke always thought tour was supposed to be hard on relationships. When he had left Y/N, all at the very start, he had promised himself to wait it out. Through whatever screaming fights, the lonely 2 a.m. thoughts, everything- he’d weather it for her.

Turns out it was super chill, though.

Y/N just wasn’t like other girls he had dated, who told him they missed him every sunrise and sunset and pretty much any moment in between. She’d text him every day, sure, but it was more blunt, casual - thinking about gettin pad thai tonight what are your thoughts - or sending him a Bert and Ernie sketch with “u n me” the only explanation. He missed her, sure, it felt like an old wound, but… she was still herself, distant and beautiful.

Sometimes he wondered if there was someone she had replaced him with. Not often, just- she had always been so fiercely independent, and he loved that, he did, she was her own incredible person. He felt like there was a chunk of him missing, though. He wanted her to feel empty, too. He needed to be that person for her.

He wasn’t proud of that. It didn’t happen often, and when it did he’d usually call and talk to his girl for half an hour, if she was available. They were good, the two of them, they didn’t have to be whining over each other for that to be true.

So tour was fine. Tour was wonderful. Coming home, though, that was a rush like nothing else.

Y/N positively launched herself at him as soon as he dragged himself out of the LAX baggage claim, catching him in a hug that almost knocks him off his feet. She’d have to jump to get her arms around his shoulders, he realizes later. They can’t kiss just yet, there’s too many people around, but he presses a quick peck to the top of her head as they head out to the car. Obviously, as soon as they’re in the backseat with the door closed he’s practically on top of her and kisses her until the car starts, jerks, and they both almost tumble into the legroom.

They try to keep it together after that (Luke swears she bit his lip), but even then she insists on sitting in the middle seat and playing with his hands all the way home. “And you say you didn’t miss me.”

“I did miss you, I told you that, like, twice,” she explains. “I just like the rings. You look like my grandma, only - hey! Only sexy, is what I was gonna say.” Luke grabs her and musses her hair for that, but they’re both laughing, and that turns into another kiss, and- he’s really happy to be home.

It doesn’t stop there, though. As soon as they get home and he finally sees Petunia again (and he makes Y/N take pictures of them, of course), and once he's gotten changed into some comfortable clothes (Y/N jumps on him once he's halfway out of his shirt and, well, it takes him a little longer than expected to get changed after that), he orders takeout and gets his girlfriend on his lap, sitting on the couch with her like nothing’s changed.

It feels really fucking good.

It does feel a little different, though. Usually Y/N does this adorable thing where she pretends she needs to be persuaded into his arms, but today he's barely sat down before she crawls into his lap and starts leaving little kisses on the open column of his throat. “Pet’s gonna get jealous, babe.” He teases her, but she just shakes her head and keeps on kissing at him.

“Keep your paws off my man, Petunia.” She says instead, so close her lips trace the words against his Adam’s apple. Luke feels himself shiver a little, but he breaks her hold to help lift Pet up on the couch. He really likes how Y/N is holding him right now. If he tells her that, though, will she let go? She doesn't make herself vulnerable like this very often. He doesn't want to ruin this.

She always says she doesn't get jealous, that she cares about him and wants him to be happy. Even if that's not with her. But it makes his heart beat a little bit faster when he thinks about her using this tight little grip on him in public, so he knows he's hers.

There's something playing on TV - he's not watching it. All he can think about is how she's fitted herself into every bend of his body. Her head’s even tucked in under her jaw. “You sure you didn't miss me too much, babe?” He hums.

“Missed you a regular amount. It's just cold in here.” She says.

It's September.

In L.A.

Luke’s not quite buying it, but he'll let her be for now. “I missed you too much,” he says, instead. “Did I tell you about the time I woke up and reached for you and fell five feet out of my bunk? And that Ashton made me sleep on the bottom until that leg of tour was through?”

“You didn't tell me about Ashton kicking you out of your bunk.” She said, sitting up a little. “Didn't he sleep on the couch sometimes because he couldn't climb up when-”

“Yeah, when he's pissed he can't-” Luke’s laugh was cut off by his phone buzzing. Finally. He's been missing the fried rice from that place down the street for months. “Oh, hang on, I'll get that. Be right back.” He says, untangling himself from his girlfriend.

Petunia is already off the couch, whining at the door, but it surprises Luke when Y/N stands up too, grabbing his hand. “I can get it angel, you can relax.” He says, but she's already tucked herself into his side.

“No way I'm leaving you alone with the food. I'm gonna supervise.” She insists. Luke scoffs, but he really doesn't mind. Just him and his girls, all going up to get the takeout- it feels pretty good to him.

Still, he almost trips twice trying to get to the door, and the way back is even more precarious. “Y/N,” he says, as soon as they're all safely back on the couch, “You're so fucking cute when you're clingy.”

“I’m not-”

“Your hand is literally in my pocket right now.”

“No, it's not,” she says, taking her hand out of his pocket. Luke just leans over and kisses her forehead gently before trying to sort out the takeout.

It only takes a second of silence for Y/N to give up the ice-cold act, nestling into his chest and tangling one leg in his. “I can stop if you want.” She says, but her voice is muffled by his sweater and Luke’s brain short-circuits for a second. He's never fucking seen her like this, all soft and grasping at him. It's almost worth leaving her so long, to come back to this.

He realizes he's been quiet too long as Y/N sits up a little, smooths back her hair. “I know that, like, not everyone loves being smothered, don't even worry about it- mmph!”

Luke pulls her back into his chest so fast Petunia startles next to them. “Fuckin’ love it.” He says, as she relaxes into him and it feels right. “Don’ ever let go of me.”

She pulls away just enough to meet his eyes. “I missed you so much. I said I didn’t cause I didn’t want you to worry but I missed you so fuckin’ much.” She presses herself back into him, so her next words come out garbled by his sweater; “Don’t do that to me again.”

Luke knows she’s joking, but some of that is true. He shouldn’t have to leave the woman he loves behind half the year, that’s not fair. She deserves all of his time. “You can come with, next time. We could use a tambourine player.” He offers, and he’s only half-joking. They could share a bunk, couldn’t they? Hold each other like this every night?

“Mm. I could replace Ashton. He’s all the way upstage, no one would notice.” She says.

“Of course,” Luke says, “then I wouldn’t get to see you like this, so…” and even when she swats his leg he can’t stop from smiling. There’s nothing in the world like his girl; he’s so fucking lucky she decided to cling to him.

1. are you named after anyone?

Birth name wise, no, but the middle name my mom gave me is the name of my paternal grandmother

2. when was the last time you cried?

A day or two ago? I was listening to The Orbiting Human Circus and a part of it just hit me because it reminded me of my late grandfather and I cried bc it’s almost been exactly a year since he passed away and i miss him very dearly

3. do you have kids?

i have honorary kids (aka lil freshmen who don’t know what they’re doing) and my pets but uhh. no actual kids. tbh i don’t really want kids of my own, like one of my occupations i’m thinking about is being a teacher but i don’t think i could ever go home to kids lmao

4. do you use sarcasm a lot?

uhh yeah. like i know when to use it and when i shouldn’t but i’m quite fond of using sarcasm when i have the chance lmao

5. what’s the first thing you notice about people?

their tone of voice??? and their posture. In my experience, these two things are the biggest indicator of character, so I usually pay attention to those more than anything.

6. eye color?

It’s like a mix of brown with the tiniest bit of green/hazel in a couple areas ??? and like i guess when i’m in the sun there’s a bit of gold in them as well (so i’m told anyways sksksks)

7. scary movie or happy ending?

I’m a sucker for both but i have to say that i absolutely adore horror movies (esp. those from the 80′s and 90′s)

8. any special talents?

does crafting count ??? bc it’s one of those things that i can pick up really fast and enjoy doing

9. where were you born?

I was born in good ol’ Englewood, Colorado (not where i live now in CO but yknow that’s neither a here nor there you guys don’t get to know where i live)

10. what are your hobbies?

language learning (i’m learning chinese and korean rn but i’m planning on picking up japanese, thai and cantonese over the next couple years), crafting, video games, writing poetry, planning for the future (i feel like this sounds really serious but it’s just like really hardcore daydreaming where i make budgets for things i want to do when i get older)

11. do you have any pets?

i have two dogs, both mutts, named Gibbs and Chewie; a guinea pig named pandora and we’ve been watching my sister’s chinchilla, Eevee for about a year now

I played soccer when i was way little, and i did marching band from like. 6th grade until my freshman year (i’d been around my band since 1st grade though sksksksk)

Chinese, English, and Humanities/world history

either working as a freelance interpreter in China or Korea or being paid to travel!

1st Year Follow Forever

(before anything else, we’re gonna ignore the header bc it’s been so long since I made gifs or anything?? lmao)

So it’s officially been a year since I started this acc - a y e a r y’all, like?? what?? It definitely doesn’t feel like it’s been that long.

Along the way, I’ve gotten over 120 followers (and over half of them are mutuals), which may not seem like a big deal to some, but it’s a big deal to me 💗 I’ve also made some really awesome friends that I would’ve never had if I hadn’t made this acc, so I just wanna take a sec to appreciate that!
