Oooh my god Gravity Falls.... I got really into it about a year and a half ago, and I made the incredible mistake of looking at r/gravityfalls. I hadn't even thought you could hate Mabel, and certainly not that strongly, but I underestimated redditors. I've never had a gen to ship fic ratio that went this far on the gen side though, and there were some really good fics. I think the best things I've read for it were a really cool timeloop fic in which Stan and Ford patch things up and a fluffy verse with sweet feelings. Oh and there was one soulmate fic that was purely platonic, and usually I love romance but my aro heart cherishes platonic soulmates every time I stumble upon some. But the show is absolutely great, and I'm a little sad I wasn't there in its heyday, but what do you want. What I would not recommend is what I've been trying to do, ie slowly try to get into Marvel comics stuff (the same way you get into a pool a little, go up to your knees, water on your neck, don't jump in to avoid a shock). The hell of trying to figure out who's who and what comes when and are we talking about MCU verse or comics verse and who's that canon AU guy and where does blorbo appear - and all the while you see the wonderful opinions of dudebros with no taste and women who are really into Taylor Swift (one of those being worse than the other of course, liking TS isn't a crime). Almost like Star Wars but also worse :) sorry I rambled there, I don't actually think we really share fandoms? I wanted to talk a little too haha
No worries!
I am not a fan of bill/dipper in the SLIGHTEST and read mostly genfic, but all of the recent antis of it are so annoying to me. Like, learn your history! The ship has been in the fandom longer than you have,
Eh, I can kind of see where the distaste of Mabel comes from, since I feel like she gets slightly too much screen time, at the expense of Dipper. Thats more of a fault than the writing than the character. That being said, its way overblown, and a lot of people tend to forget that she's 12! If I were 12 in these situations, I'd be way worse.
Platonic soulmate fics are either the best fic known to man, or garbage, depending on how its written. (sometimes you just get the vibe that whoever wrote it is looking down on probalematic ships, yk?) If you liked this one, send me the link!
I've never been into MCU comics, they seem like they have a high barrier to entry. Glad you're having fun, but I highly doubt anything can be Star Wars, but worse. Feels like the current writers of SW hate what made it great, so I feel disconnected from anything post-TFA. Shame, since SW was my childhood.

🔥 The Star Wars sequels
Most of my opinions on them are unpopular, haha. Let’s see ... ah, okay.
I think their biggest missteps were a) sidelining Rose in TROS and b) not significantly including Hayden Christensen.

from the salty ask: 5 or 23 ps: love your blog 😘
Gaaahhhsdjlkgasljkdgh thank you so much doll! 😘 ❤️
Since your icon is Leia My Queen, I am gonna answer these for Star Wars…
5) Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
Nope! I watched the first Star Wars movies super late in life (like, right before TFA came out) so I never really got super hard into the fandom and shipping side of it like I did with over series that I watched over time… I honestly don’t really have any ~hardcore~ SW ships except for Han and Leia, so there wasn’t really much to ruin if that makes sense?
23) Unpopular character you love?
I haven’t actually seen TLJ yet… But objectively speaking Rose Tico is ADORABLE AF!
Salty Asks!

The Force Awakens me: ewwww reylo is PROBLEMATIC. CRYLO REN. *insert some bs argument here that puts way too much reaching context on a space movie*
The Last Jedi me: .... oh no, it’s Good Writing™. The duality. The contrast. The yin and yang. The Drama. Oh fuck oh shit oh no I.... ship it.
The Rise of Skywalker me: I am reylo 4 life and I don’t accept criticism.

Yeah, like I LOVE The Last Jedi so much, and I love how it gave so much life to the Reylo fandom and made us skyrocket with so much activity and art, but I also noticed how it made people sort of hesitant to approach canon-continuation or canon-verse fics because TLJ on its own was so good. It sort of locked the Reylo dynamic into a particular "thing" that fit the depiction in the film. But TROS was such a mess in the exact way that spurs people to say "Fuck off, I can do better" and fix it.
it made people sort of hesitant to approach canon-continuation or canon-verse fics because TLJ on its own was so good
Another reason is that TFA was also incredibly easy to follow up with a canonverse sequel---it practically offered the force bond on a silver platter, and other meaty things too, like Kylo hunting Rey down part on Snoke’s orders and part because he wanted payback, Rey’s training with Luke either not going too well or leading to her learning stuff about the balance, an infinity of trapped/stranded scenarios, the first blossoming UST etc. Whereas TLJ already dealt with many of these things (though differently than how we imagined) and also with the staple “final” climax of every post-TFA fic (Rey and Kylo killing Snoke), so I guess we didn’t have a clear idea on how to proceed after that. Some fics did it beautifully (Landscape with a blur of conquerors, for example, which I still have to read) but there wasn’t the same variety and proliferation of long form canonverse stories that happened after TFA.
Mostly, I think nobody was prepared for a third act with Supreme Leader Kylo Ren with no higher dark side authority above him with Bendemption still on the to do list, and this reflected both in our fics and in the actual canon story. A sequel to TLJ just wouldn’t write itself as easily as a sequel to TFA did.
Which is why I maintain that, if Lucasfilm’s endgame plan was always Reylo + Bendemption + evil wizard to defeat via the power of their magical connection, killing Snoke off at the end of the second act was ultimately a bad call. It works like a charm in the context of the individual movie, but it creates bad ripple effects for the trilogy as a whole, making the third act really hard to pull off (focusing on the political threat exclusively or making Kylo’s journey to redemption an internal/psychological one lowers the stakes significantly, while bringing Snoke or another ubervillain back, as they did, reeks of desperation and cheap plot device).

an anon submission I got yesterday which is a+++ on point
I totally get you, like, I don’t like nor Kylo nor do I like R*eylo (tho I find it okay, I think I would definitely like it if I liked Kylo better) but anti-reylo discourse is the most ridiculous shit I’ve ever seen. I don’t even go into the tags that much because I’m not into the star wars fandom that much to begin with but recently I’ve followed some r*eylo blogs and I can tell you that these people know what they’re talking about, their fanarts are beautiful and their metas well-written and well documented, and from what I’ve seen they’re very nice and well-read people (at least the blogs I follow, no fandom is perfect) so curiosity pushed me to go into the anti-reylo tags to see if they had any interesting counter-arguments.. I held my hopes too high for what this website is worth, all I saw was ‘if you don’t ship finn/rey then you’re racist’ (that is NOT racism, your tastes do not make you racist, racism would be 'I don’t ship Finn/rey, cause I hate Finn being black’) 'rey is finn’s girlfriend end of the arguement’ (funny how people always brag about the lack of true M/F friendship but then want to force an obvious friendship down people’s throat, I don’t deny the romantic aspect of this ship, but it didn’t go very far so don’t expect epople to ship it romantically) the most pointless shit was 'Friendly reminder that K*ylo Ren is a murderer’, that’s when I quit. I wonder how these people deal with watching  other movies than disney? Seriously, every 'bad guy’ even in a kid’s show kill someone at some point, it’s very stupid to direct this argument toward one character you don’t like in particular.. Then there’s the typical tumblr dicourse that labels everything a little problematic as abusive (seriously they’re enemies, and he treats her far better than he did Poe where do you guys see abuse? He tries to invade her mind of course but that’s denying the part where Rey fought back and is the one who invade his mind), I don’t see this argument thrown that much when people ship male hero/male villain..? That’s when you see these people tries to find every little flaws they can. I mean my problem with K*ylo Ren, the reason I’m so Meh about him, is that I feel he could have done a lot worse shit than he did. I’m into problematic shit, I I like seeing the dark side of humanity, how people’s insecurities or past can make them horrible, I like when an antagonist is petty, cruel and arrogant but very insecure, or when the villain is the anti-thesis or acts as a good foil to the hero that’s the kind of shit I like but Kylo? I don’t see him as a villain tbh, he’s not threatening, or even cruel tbh I really thought he was gonna give Han the lightsaber (I still felt it a bit weird he didn’t) if he were introduced as a real antagonist I wouldn’t have felt the slightest hesitation. So when people get shit (in their tags mind you) for liking him because he’s supposedly problematic I can’t help but shuckle. Like I’ve seen villains doing worse things and getting worshipped, but you like this guy and suddenly you’re a nazi-apologist? That’s so sad because people who ship rey/kylo don’t even ship in a subversive way, they’re interested in the potential dynamic like every shippers do and they genuinely want for him to become a better person.. But eventually you’ll always have these people who’ll make you feel bad enjoying your thing.. (Anyway I’m very sorry to rant a lot, I had a lot of things to say as you can see xD)
^^^ HEY ANON you’re a gift that keeps on giving. really never mind the being into dark stuff bit and the thing with han (because I knew he was gonna die the moment I saw the bridge XDDD) I could have written this tbh *high five* also I’d like to thank you for
funny how people always brag about the lack of true M/F friendship but then want to force an obvious friendship down people’s throat, I don’t deny the romantic aspect of this ship, but it didn’t go very far so don’t expect epople to ship it romantically
BECAUSE THANK YOU GDI I didn’t see anything romantic in finn/rey and tbh I like them better as friends (I can dig the ot3 but really that’s it) but the fact that a lot of people who I suppose were hoping for it to sail then have to bash other ships because it didn’t (and like, there’s parts of the st0rmpilot fandom I can’t even look at which is why I don’t look at the tags anymore but back in the day people going like YOU SHOULD SHIP FINN AND REY BC IF YOU SHIP HIM AND POE IT’S SEXIST AND THE ACTORS HAVE A TEN YEAR AGE DIFFERENCE IT’S BAD TM and said that you had to ship finn and rey instead were grating on my nerves too) and like, fuck’s sake, write your ship and leave others be. also the r*ylo fandom is like... chill? I’ve never seen them stirring shit? honestly I’m not into it and I never will be but gdi let them live. also:
he treats her far better than he did Poe where do you guys see abuse?
THANKS ALSO FOR POINTING THAT SHIT OUT guess why back in the day poe/kylo was the go-to darkship for the kink meme and then I don’t see it anymore much but everyone’s gone to ky*lux for all the badwrong and I can understand them since from what it seems it’s like the only corner of fandom that’s relatively discourse-free. and tbh at times I wish I gave two fucks about either K or H because then I’d totally be down with it but I don’t so whatever but honestly the anti side when it comes to both kylo and r*ylo is over the top, has gone overboard and are overtly mean in ways that are frankly insufferable and I’m tired. I don’t unfollow people for ONE post but I’m honestly at the point where every time I see r*ylo hate I do it because I can’t have petty shit like that on the dash and people really need to take a step back and let others live gdi anyway thanks anon you have a+ opinions

new star wars was great fun but man I'm glad I don't rlly get involved with the fandom any more like... it's a fun space adventure.... it doesn't have to be good it just has to have pretty actors and funny droids and a scene where a ship flies really fast thru a narrow canyon and does flips......

What was all that stuff in TFA if F/Rey was "never alive in the first place"? Many people picked up on a romance between them, and I dont think it's fair to dismiss it totally. "Got a boyfriend" "women always know the truth" "he said it was your idea *hug*" Finn screaming after Rey... He didn't look half as dramatically concerned when he thought Rose could have been dying. And lots of people started shipping F/Rey after TLJ when they weren't invested after TFA. F/Rey is still very much alive.
“And lots of people started shipping F/Rey after TLJ when they weren’t invested after TFA”
um, really? I don’t want to automatically dismiss this piece of into because I’m reaaaaally not in touch with that side of the fandom, but it’s totally the opposite of what I’m seeing personally, and tbh I wonder what was exactly about TLJ that would make previously neutral fans suddenly take a turn towards F/Rey given their utter lack of interaction, aside from pure spite at the direction the trilogy has taken?
Nevertheless. I’ve previously talked about F/Rey and how the so called romantic cues are (imo) too tepid and toothless to be considered real hints, and are part misdirection, part residual of a formerly slightly different dynamic between them, that was probably course corrected by JJ himself during the filming of TFA. So when I say “it was never alive in the first place”, I’m not necessarily denying there was ANY possibility to interpret their dynamic as a romance, but that I don’t think it was ever meant to be a Thing in the context of the canon narrative.
The fact that many people pick up on romantic vibes between a boy and a girl who act affectionately around each other is EXTREMELY common and it isn’t, per se, a guarantee that those vibes are intentional; and, even if they are intentional, it’s not a guarantee that the narrative *will* act upon that romantic subtext or that it’s not using it as a red herring. I find this argument particularly frustrating, to be honest, because right after TFA plenty of people picked up on romantic vibes between Rey and Kylo, yet the F/Rey side of the fandom insisted for months it wasn’t real, that it was all our wishful thinking and imagination, etc. But now “if enough people see it then it must be real” has become your rallying cry? How convenient, lol.
That said, if you say F/Rey is alive in the sense that there will always be shippers to ship it, then you have my blessing—hell, I ship J/onsa fiercely even though I don’t think there’s a chance in hell it becomes canon, and I’m sure in three months the J/onsa fandom will be on fire. So if you wanna keep the ship alive regardless of canon, go for it. But if you mean that F/Rey is alive as a plausible endgame romance in a canon context, then I must say I respectfully disagree. I have no obligation to pander to those who think this ship can still be endgame for no other reason that *they* think it’s endgame, especially not after the treatment reylo shippers received by that side of the fandom for 2 years.

TROS wank
I was pretty meh about TROS and Not Happy about the treatment of the Skywalkers as a family generally, buuuut I’m also really ‘meh’ wrt the posts about how Leia’s true calling is politics and giving her Jedi training and a lightsaber reduces her agency and collapses her path into Luke’s because JJ/whomever didn’t respect her independently of Luke/the Jedi stuff generally/whatever.
IMO there is very little evidence in the films that Leia’s true calling is politics. ANH doesn’t tell us why she became a senator, but I think it’s pretty clearly implied that the main function was shielding her activities as a Rebel agent. She’s a major figure in the Rebellion, but in ESB what we see is her giving orders to troops (making it reasonable enough that she would end up as General Organa).
By ROTJ, she’s taking orders as part of a strike team (and seems much happier for it tbh). Yoda’s dying words to Luke are about training Leia. Luke tells Leia that she’s his twin and will learn to use her abilities, too, and she is at some level unsurprised. Near the end of the film, she begins to use her Force abilities consciously. It is entirely possible that all this would ultimately lead to actual Jedi training.
Sure, there’s a tradition of politician!Leia in the expanded universe, but directors/writers/producers/Lucasfilm powers have always been free to use or overwrite the EU as they see fit. And they’ve all done it, many times! George certainly torpedoed EU material whenever he felt like it, including EU material that had come from him in the first place.
That is, LF has set up this system where fans are supposed to accept the labyrinthine layers of EU canon, but the directors/writers et al can do just about whatever they want with it. I’m not saying this is unproblematic, bc it’s actually at the base of a lot of my reservations about SW and canonicity. But in terms of precedent, JJ & Co were entirely within their rights to go, “huh, there’s a whole thing about Leia being trained as a Jedi in ROTJ and we can see it. Let’s do that instead.”
It’s fine if you like the pre-TROS EU version better (I don’t know what acrobatics they’ve done to make it work currently) or think it really does make more sense for OT Leia’s character. But JJ & Co were no more beholden to it than the other writers and directors were to the EU material that they threw into the blender. It’s nothing new. And it’s not really fair to assume that Jedi trainee Leia is something that they made up out of the ether because they couldn’t see beyond Luke’s storyline, when it is explicitly and repeatedly brought up in ROTJ.
