Walker "The Quiet" review
The episode opens with Cordell and Geri happily bumping into walls while making out before Cordell leaves for work where he ends up bumping inside a runaway tractor trailer driven by a thief the rangers have been tracking for weeks.  James and Trey are also in the trailer though they're only there because Cordell had jumped into the moving trailer, which he claims was inspired by Trey's first case.  Trey doesn't want credit for Cordell's latest impulsive antic, but it all ends well when Cordell does a homerun slide into the baddie's face and just like that, we’re off to a good start.
5 months have passed to explain August’s growth spurt during the real world’s Hollywood strike that delayed Walker’s return by 11 months.  August now looks like a younger clone of the actor that played Sam Winchester’s adult son in the Supernatural finale, which means he has to be hired for the Supernatural revival as young Dean Winchester II.
The Walker clan pus Geri and Ben are planning Cordell’s birthday with a party bus to a steak eating contest.  That of course gets jettisoned when Cassie Perez, a temp with the FBI, arrives at Ranger HQ to recruit Cordell, James , and Trey s help to help the FBI nab drug operatives.  August suggested moving the steak eating contest to the Walker ranch and just like that, birthday party back on.
But first, Cassie gifts Cordell a pair of alligator cowboy boots that I'm sure she clobbered the alligator herself during her 5-month stint in Florida, and brings Cordell back to Walker ranch for a surprise birthday lunch.   August yeets out of the birthday party early to go to high school senior parties, much to Cordell disappointment who then sneaks away from his own birthday party to look over the latest development of the serial killer Jackal case with Trey.  Hey, like father like son!
Cordell and Trey gets busted by James' wife Kelly who immediately recognizes the killer's calling card, a set of jackal teeth.  She is upset to learn that the Jackal re-emerged during her re-wedding to James and demands Cordell and Trey to not tell James who is still haunted by the unsolved case.  Speaking of being haunted by the past, Stella and Liam commiserate over being forced to take another human life; Liam killing Clint when he invaded the ranch, Stella killing Witt when he invaded Geri’s house.  Liam assures Stella she will be fine with time. We learn that Witt initially survived the gunshot wound and escaped the house, only to die 2 miles away on the roadside.  The police consider the case closed, but we know it's unsolved as we never found out why he broke into Geri's house.
After a very busy day of taking down thieves, drug dealers, and a steak eating contest, it comes to a screeching halt into “the quiet”. Cordell and Geri spend some quiet quality time and Cordell admits fearing “the quiet” with a daughter at college living away from home and August looking forward to flying the coop.
Trey arrives to update Cordell on the Jackal case and asked him if it was really that bad when James worked on the case.  Flashback showing an unhinged James obsessing over the case, avoiding his family and to the horror of his wife, physically taking out his frustration on Cordell (third time we see Cordell being bumped against walls).  Trey asked if it was the depravity that got to James.  No, Cordell says, it was "the quiet" when the Jackal eluded James.
Besides the normal empty-nest angst by parents, Cordell is also a military veteran who operates at a different level than everyone else.  Veterans’ lows are civilians’ highs so veterans get bored very quickly and seek high risk hobbies or jobs.  Cordell’s job as a Texas Ranger helped fulfill that high risk need and serves as a distraction until a new reality threatens to bring back “the quiet” resulting from absences: his wife’s death and now his children leaving the nest.  Both Cordell and James hated “the quiet '' and Cordell vowed to catch the Jackel before “the quiet” comes back for James again.
Speculation #1: The Jackal heard about the James wedding and wants to mess with James by killing again.
Side note: Cordell and Cassie discussing the Hawkshadow reboot sounds like the Walker Texas Ranger reboot i.e. "more grounded and focus on the family". I really need Cassie and Cordell to go undercover in a Hawkshadow convention.
My score: 8 out of 10, a solid start to the season with the quiet before the storm.

Leaping to Conclusions
Pairing: Liam x Riley
All characters belong to Pixelberry
Summary: The pressure to produce an heir is getting to Liam and Riley, leading them to turn to some unconventional methods.
Rating: PG, Adult Language
Word Count: 1,395
A/N: This fic is insanity guys, I'm not even going to pretend it's anything but. I learned the most absurd fun fact this week, and after sharing it with pretty much everyone I know, @ao719 convinced me that it needed to be a fic, and here we are.
For the record, this story doesn't take place in any of my timelines. My Liam and Riley can be weird, but never this weird. 😂
I am participating in @choicesflashfics, the prompt: “Wait a second. Pause and rewind … what did you just say?” will appear in bold below.
And finally, nobody has pre-read this, so apologies in advance for my horrendous grammar, and anything else about it that sucks.
Tumblr media
Riley’s eyes fluttered open as she felt Liam’s lips trailing slowly across her shoulder. She moaned softly and arched back into him.
“Good morning, love.” He whispered huskily into her ear.
“When it starts like this it is.” She replied, reveling in the attention she was receiving from her husband.
As his hand traveled up her body, her stomach started to lurch. Her hand flew to her mouth and she leapt out of his arms and rushed to the bathroom of their guest room in the Walker ranch. Liam sat up and watched with worry as the door slammed shut.
After a few moments, Liam stood and approached the door. He could hear his wife on the other end, and he knew exactly what was going on. He rapped gently on the door. “Riley, are you alright? Can I get you anything?”
The only response he received were a few more retching noises, followed by the toilet flushing. Soon after, the door opened, and Liam met Riley’s red, blotchy eyes. “Sorry.”
Liam wrapped his arms around her, pulling her flush against him. “You don’t have to apologize, it’s not your fault.” They stood there in silence as Liam held her. “Riley, do you think you may need to take a test?”
Since the royal couple had gotten married, they’d been facing pressure to produce an heir. While they did not take their positions as monarchs lightly, for them, it was more about building a family together.
“It wouldn’t hurt.” Riley shrugged before returning to the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Liam took a seat at the end of the bed to wait for her.
“Oh no!” Liam stood and rushed back to the door at Riley’s cry. She came back into the bedroom, more distraught than she had been before. “I dropped the test in the toilet.” She buried her head in her hands.
Liam chuckled slightly, as he wrapped his arm around her. He had read that pregnancy hormones could cause overreactions; he assumed, hoped, that was why she was so upset. “It’s alright, just take another one.”
“Liam, it was the last one!” She snapped.
He stepped back, shocked by her aggression. “That’s alright, we can go into town and get more.”
“Are you kidding?!” Riley threw her hands up in frustration before moving to the bed and dropping down, burying her face in the pillow. “The press has been all over us, the last thing I need is for them to get a picture of me buying pregnancy tests!”
Liam sat beside her on the bed, rubbing her back gently as he racked his brain for a solution. “I’ve got it!”
Riley rolled over and sat up, leaning against the headboard. “What?”
“We’re in Texas, surely there is a frog around here somewhere.” He said as he moved to the dresser, pulling out a pair of jeans.
“Liam, this is no time to go wildlife gazing, I might be carrying the heir!” Riley chided him.
“Love calm down, the frog will be able to tell us.” He said matter of factly as he continued to get dressed.
Her face contorted into a confused expression. “Wait a second. Pause and rewind … what did you just say?”
He sat beside her on the bed and slid on his boots. “For about twenty years, starting in the nineteen forties, before the pregnancy tests we are familiar with today, there was the Hogben test. A British zoologist, Lancelot Hogben, discovered that when urine samples from pregnant women were injected into frogs, the frog would spawn eggs within eighteen hours. It was the most rapid and reliable pregnancy test of the time.”
Riley stared at her husband in stunned silence. “How the fuck do you even know that?”
“I like history.” He shrugged.
Still befuddled by her husband’s solution, Riley took a deep breath. “So you want to inject a frog with my pee, and then in 18 hours either nothing happens and I’m not pregnant, or I am pregnant and we also have a hundred and seventy two frog eggs?”
“They’re called frogspawn, love.” He corrected.
She slapped her palm against her forehead. “Yeah, because that’s the most crucial thing in this conversation.”
“I’m sorry, force of habit,” Liam smiled sheepishly. “Would you like to try it? It’s a fascinating concept, I would be interested to see it in action.”
“Liam, I don’t even want to touch a frog, let alone do science experiments on it.”
“I’ll take care of everything,” he insisted. “I’ll just need your… well, your um… sample.”
Riley chuckled when Liam started to get flustered. “Alright, if it’ll make you happy, and all I have to do is pee in a cup, then let’s give it a try.”
Liam grinned and leaned in, planting a quick kiss on Riley’s lips. “Excellent!”
“I guess Kermit was right, it’s not easy being green.” Riley said, shaking her head.
Liam made his way to a nearby pond in search of the perfect frog. His eyes roamed the banks in search of his test subject. “If I were a frog, where would I be?”
Finally, he noticed a slight movement out of the corner of his eye and turned to see a frog seated on a nearby rock. “Perfect.” He stalked toward his prey, making sure to stay as quiet as possible.
Liam was so laser focused that he didn’t notice Drake coming up behind him, curiously observing the actions of his best friend. “Li, what the fuck are you doing?”
Drake’s words startled Liam and before he had time to catch himself, he tumbled over into the pond as the frog lept away. Drake cackled as the King of Cordonia sat waist deep in the pond glaring at him.
“Sorry,” Drake apologized as he reached down, helping Liam out of the water. “But seriously, what are you doing?”
“Riley might be pregnant,” he answered.
Drake furrowed his brow, even more confused now that he had the explanation. “Okay, so you decided to go frog hunting to celebrate?”
“No, we lost the test,” he responded. When Drake continued to stare at him with a blank expression, Liam sighed and explained the Hogben test just as he had done for Riley earlier.
“And Brooks agreed to go along with this?” Drake chuckled.
“We would do anything for eachother.”
Drake rolled his eyes and moved toward the pond. A few moments later he returned with a frog.
“How did you do that?” Liam marveled.
“You had your training growing up, I had mine.” He shrugged in reply.
Liam took the frog from Drake, thanking him for his efforts and began walking back to the house.
“I’ve gotta see this.” Drake said to himself as he followed Liam.
Liam entered the house heading toward the stairs, until he saw Riley sitting with Madeleine on the living room couch. When he stepped up to them, he noticed the crestfallen expression on his wife’s face.
“Love, what’s wrong?”
“I’m not pregnant,” she responded, her eyes trained on the floor.
“But how do you know? I’ve got the frog right here.” He held it up to show her.
Madeleine stood from the couch, glaring in confusion and disgust at the sight in front of her. “When I was in town this morning, I bought some tests. I figured you would need them.”
“Oh Riley,” Liam moved to Riley, outstretching his arms.
“Liam,” she held a hand up to stop him from getting any closer. “You’re slimy, and wet… and holding a frog.”
“Oh, right.” Liam looked down at himself, and the frog in his hands. “I should shower. Care to join me?” He asked slyly.
“Um… maybe you should handle this one solo,” she cringed.
Liam handed the frog over to Madeleine, who grabbed it instinctively. He signaled for Riley to follow him, and they made their way up the stairs to the bedroom.
“So you’re not going to pee on a frog?” Drake called out as they exited the room.
“Ugh,” Madeleine groaned. “None of this would be happening if I were queen.” She turned to Drake, thrusting the frog in his direction. “Make yourself useful and deal with this thing.” She stormed out of the room, mumbling to herself, questioning where things went wrong for her.
Drake looked down at the frog with a grin. “God I love Texas.”

The best mistake he never had [drake x Camille au] [part five]
Tumblr media
‘Honestly, Camille, he's a total jerk,’ Maxwell sighed. ‘I shouldn't have gotten so mad but he boils my blood.’
Camille winced and settled down on her bed, tucking her long legs up underneath her. She was talking to Maxwell on the phone, hearing about his run in with Drake last night.
She appreciated how loyal Maxwell was but she sometimes wished he would just let her fight her own battles. He seemed to view her like a delicate flower, someone who could easily break, not someone who was strong and capable.
‘I appreciate you having my back,’ she said gently, ‘but you don't need to fight with him. Just let it go over your head. What's done is done.’
‘He doesn't understand how hurt you were-’
‘He does,’ Camille interrupted. ‘He just doesn't want reminding.’
The call finished soon after that. Camille let out a noise of frustration that sounded like ‘gnnnnngh fuck fuck gnnngh!’ and raked her hands through her hair.
She looked out the window and surveyed the street below. Aside from a few houses and some trees, it was bare and didn't have much to it. Her eyes followed the line of the street until she settled on Walker Ranch up the hill.
Her heart twinged.
In the distance, she saw Drake step outside the ranch. He stopped at his pick up truck.
He began to hose it down and wash it. Camille watched, her eyes focused on him. He looked small from this distance.
She wished she knew what he was thinking. Drake kept a wall around himself, one that she thought she had managed to climb years ago. Scale the wall and get to know the real Drake Walker.
Clearly, it hadn't worked.
**************************
‘Mommy, can I go ride my bike?’ Lily asked.
‘Depends..’ Camille mused. ‘Have you finished the first lesson sent from school?’
She looked over Lily's shoulder at the laptop screen. Thank god Lily's teacher had been understanding and allowed Camille to take Lily to Texas during school times. Lily was currently being emailed online learning and she was working through it, happy to learn something new.
Happy that Lily had completed her maths lesson, Camille allowed her to take a thirty minute break.
Lily trundled her bike outside and clipped her pink helmet onto her head. After Camille had shouted at her about talking to Drake, she had decided that she was only going to cycle today and NOT speak to anyone under ANY circumstances. Especially if they had a horse.
She hitched her leg over the seat and began to cycle along the road away from her grandmothers house.
Lily cycles up the hill, nearing the ranch. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Drake who was washing his truck.
Nooooo!! she wailed to herself.
Drake looked up and gave her a weak smile. Lily watched him, keeping her eyes narrowed. She was NOT going to smile back. No.
She cycled faster to get away from him. Blinded by sheer determination, she didn't see the small rock on the road. As the front tyre hit it, the bike jolted, giving Lily a fright.
In her shock, she couldn't correct herself in time and without warning, she went flying off the bike.
She let out a piercing scream as she hit the ground.
***********
‘Lily!’
Drake abandoned his truck and ran across the road to where Lily lay on her side, the bike tangled up amongst her legs.
He reached her and sank down to his knees, gently picking the bike off her.
Lily was whimpering with tears streaming down her cheeks.
‘Shh it's okay, honey..’ Drake murmured. ‘Where do you hurt?’
A weird feeling had flooded Drake. He hadn't meant to call her ‘honey’ for one thing.
‘M-my head..’
‘Okay, look at me. Lily, look at me, it's okay-’
‘No!’ Lily shouted. ‘I’m n-not allowed to talk to you!’
Drake closed his eyes and exhaled. ‘Lily, I can help you. Let me just check your head-’
‘Lily!’
Drake turned to see Camille running up the hill towards them.
Fuck.
‘Mommy..’ Lily croaked.
Camille reached the pair of them, her eyes casting along Drake before settling on her daughter. She kneeled down close to Lily and gently scooped her up. ‘Baby, where are you hurt?’
‘My head-’
Camille’s eyes darted to Drake in panic. ‘It’s okay, baby. We'll just have to get you to the hospital just in case -’
‘Am I going to die?’ Lily asked in a small voice.
‘No, baby,’ Camille said softly. ‘You’ve just hit your head and the doctor will need to take a look at it.’
Drake studied Camille, a picture of worry and anxiety, and then looked Lily. ‘You know, she might not need a hospital. It could be okay. Lily, how’s your vision?’
‘Uhhhh..’
‘Are there two of me?’ Drake asked, half joking. He needed to make this light. Make her not worry. Make Camille not worry.
‘Just you,’ Lily told him. She snuggled into Camille, her small fingers gripped on Camille's sweater.
‘Thank god there's only one of me, can you imagine a world with two of me? Awful!’ Drake joked.
Lily giggled. Camille smiled faintly.
‘Right, since you can see only one of me, and you aren't babbling nonsense,’ Drake said, taking control, ‘let’s just get you a cold compress and keep you rested, okay?’
Lily furrowed her eyebrows together, looking rather serious. ‘So, no hospital?’
Drake looked at Camille. ‘She seems fine,’ he said gently. ‘We could monitor her and if she needs medical attention, then hospital it is.’
Camille didn't look convinced. Drake cleared his throat. ‘But hey, you're the boss, Camille.’
He felt he had overstepped.
Camille bit her lip. ‘Okay, let's clean up that head wound,’ she decided, ‘and see how you're feeling in an hour. How's that sound Lily?’
Lily grinned, happy to escape going to hospital.
Camille picked her up carefully and looked up at Drake. He watched her warily, unsure if she was going to give him hell again.
‘Thank you for looking after her,’ Camille finally said.
Drake gave her a small smile. ‘No worries. I'm here if you need anything.’
It was the wrong and most inappropriate thing to say. Camille’s eyes narrowed and she stepped back with Lily in her arms.
‘Let’s get that cold compress, sweetie,’ she said in a clipped voice.
She turned to walk down the street towards Gisele's. Lily looked over Camille’s shoulder at Drake, who stood watching them.
Despite herself, Lily raised her hand and discreetly waved at him. He did help her after all.
Drake smiled weakly and waved back
*******
Camille cleaned Lily up, cleaning the head wound which had stopped bleeding, before gently cleaning her hands that were cut from stones.
‘There, all better now,’ Camille said, pressing a soft kiss on Lily's hand. She gave Lily a cold compress for her head with instructions to lie in bed and relax.
Disaster averted.
****************
‘M-mommy?’
Camille had been busy checking in on Gisele who was sleeping at the moment. She slept a lot lately. She was tiny and fragile, like a baby bird.
Camille looked up to see Lily looking pale and quite faint. Alarmed, she stood up and moved to crouch down so she was eye level with Lily.
‘Lily, are you okay?’
‘I feel woozy..’
‘Right, hospital,’ Camille decided. She quickly cast a look at Gisele who was snoring softly. She couldn't leave Gisele by herself - she needed help with moving and she hadn't had anything to eat yet.
But Lily needed medical attention.
Camille bit her lip. She thought of Drake. She really didn't want to ask him. But she couldn't let pride get in the way here. She had to think of Lily.
‘Okay, honey, stay here, I'll be right back. Go lie down beside grandma.’
Lily nodded obediently. Camille rushed downstairs and out the front door, running up to Walker Ranch.
She knocked on the door rapidly.
Drake opened it and his eyes widened. ‘Camille? Is Lily alright?’
‘No,’ Camille burst out. ‘She’s feeling woozy. I need to take her to the hospital but I can't leave grandma-’
‘I’ll take you to the hospital,’ Drake interrupted, ‘and my mom can look after Gisele.’
Camille blinked. ‘I can just take a cab-’
‘No.’
Drake hollered for Bianca who hurried to the door, her eyebrows knitted together with concern.
She insisted on looking after Gisele. Drake gave Camille a smile. ‘Come on, let's go.’
*******************
Camille sat in the back of the pick up trick with Lily nestled against her. Drake drove, trying his best not to keep looking in the rear view mirror.
Every time he did, his eyes would lock onto Camille's and his breath would catch.
Her eyes were gorgeous. Drake had always thought that. Almond shaped, deep brown like chocolate with golden flecks.
Those eyes were filled with anxiety now. Not for the first time, Drake wondered when Camille had become so tightly wound. She used to be so carefree. Now, she looked ready to pounce just in case the worst happened.
Or maybe she was just a mom who had responsibilities now and she wouldn't rest easy again.
Drake felt his stomach twist. It was his fault she was like this.
They reached the hospital. Camille carried Lily in her arms as they entered the foyer, practically racing to the reception desk.
‘My daughter fell off her bike and hit her head,’ she explained quickly, ‘and now she's feeling woozy.’
The receptionist told them to sit down and a doctor would be with them.
Lily looked around the waiting room apprehensively. She'd never been in a hospital before. The smell made her want to be sick and the worried look on her mother's face made her wish that she'd never ridden the bike in the first place.
She caught Drake’s eye. He gave her a reassuring smile. ‘It’ll be alright,’ he told her. ‘I promise.’
**************
Lily had to stay overnight so the doctors could monitor her, just in case.
‘But I don't want to be away from mommy!’ Lily wailed at the doctor, scrambling to get closer to Camille.
Camille took her in her arms and held her close. ‘Shh honey, it's okay -’
‘I don't want to be alone!’
The doctor smiled sympathetically. ‘You won't be alone,’ he said. ‘You’ll have a comfy bed in the kids ward. A few kids are already there, you might make friends.’
Lily shot a panicked look at Camille. She did NOT want to stay overnight.
‘It’s only for the night,’ Camille told her softly. ‘It’s to make sure you're safe. I promise, I'll be here first thing tomorrow morning to pick you up and we can get McDonalds. Would you like that?’
Lily clenched her fists in frustration. She didn't want to argue with Camille but she didn't want to stay here, in this weird smelling place, in a bed that wasn't hers.
But the doctor would make sure she was okay and that meant her mommy wouldn't worry and that was the important thing to remember.
She nodded mutely, accepting her fate.
The doctor smiled. ‘The kids ward is an animal theme!’ he said cheerfully. ‘Do you like animals?’
Lily smiled now. ‘I love animals,’ she said quietly.
Camille squeezed her hand. ‘There you go, baby.’
*************
After Lily was taken to the kids ward, Drake and Camille left the hospital.
Camille sat in the front passenger seat and looked out the window quietly, chewing anxiously on a fingernail.
‘She’s gonna be okay,’ Drake said, breaking the silence.
Camille looked down at her hands. ‘We’ve never spent a night apart before. It feels… like a part of me is missing. Something vital. Because she is.’
Her eyes filled with tears.
Drake bit his lip, unsure how to handle this. He wasn't good with crying women.
Come on. Say something to her. Help her feel better.
‘She’s a firecracker,’ Drake said. ‘She’s a strong girl, just like her mama. She's going to be fine and it'll be tomorrow before you know it.’
Camille let out a shaky breath and nodded. ‘I know,’ she croaked. ‘I just want her to be happy and safe and right now it feels like she isn't. What if it gets worse? What if she gets more woozy and gets sick? What if-’
‘Camille.’
Drake pulled the truck over and turned off the ignition. He turned to face her. Tears had started to fall down her cheeks.
He sighed. Slowly, he reached out and gently wiped her tears away. Camille stared at him with wide eyes, her lower lip trembling.
‘Nothing is going to happen to Lily,’ he said softly, enunciating every word. ‘She’s got doctors to monitor her and she'll be sleeping in an animal themed ward. She'll be comfortable and safe. Tomorrow morning, I will drive you to the hospital first thing to take her home. She's going to be fine.’
Their eyes bore into each others. Drake could feel himself getting lost in her golden flecks.
‘Drake…’ Camille murmured.
Drake swallowed. ‘Yeah?’
Camille’s eyes remained fixed on his. Drake couldn't breathe. He could feel his heart starting to hammer inside his chest.
‘Why did you make that decision five years ago?’ Camille finally asked, her voice thick with emotion.
Drake blinked. He hadn't been expecting her to ask him that question.
‘I.. Camille, I can't..’
Camille pulled back. In an instant, Drake could see her closing off to him. She rubbed her wet eyes harshly and cleared her throat.
‘Forget I even asked,’ she said, her voice remote. ‘Don’t know what I was expecting you to say. You didn't give answers then, you're not going to give answers now.’
She turned to look out of the window, her arms crossed.
Drake gripped the steering wheel, turning his knuckles white. ‘Camille, I'm sorry -’
‘Just fucking drive.’
Drake exhaled and turned the key in the ignition. He stole a glance at Camille who continued to stare out the window. Her jaw was set.
Drake had done a good job building up his walls through the years.
Clearly, so had Camille.
***************
Drake pulled up outside Gisele's. They had driven in silence which had been excruciating.
Camille unclipped her seatbelt. ‘Thank you for taking us to the hospital,’ she said formally.
She sounded so far away.
Drake closed his eyes. He needed to do it. Now was the time. They were alone.
‘Camille, I wasn't cut out to be a dad,’ he finally said. ‘Can you imagine me as a dad?’
Camille kept her gaze fixed on the window. ‘You ARE a dad, Drake.’
‘You know what I mean.’
Camille shrugged. ‘You seemed pretty happy talking to Lily. Letting her groom Lone Star. Helping fix her up. Trying to help her feel better about the hospital.’
‘She was panicking, I had to say something to help her calm down -’
‘You didn't have to,’ Camille interrupted. Her voice was dangerously rising now.
‘You could have kept your distance. You could have let us just take a cab to the hospital. But you keep turning up and you're slowly getting to know her. And yet you don't want any part of her.’
Drake exhaled. ‘That’s not fair, Camille -’
Camille whipped around to face him, her eyes filled with fury. ‘No, Drake! What's unfair is you showing up all the time without warning! I'm trying to look after my grandma and make sure Lily is comfortable here and I keep looking over my shoulder wondering if you're suddenly going to be in the background. You can't reject me five years ago and never contact me again and then when I visit, you're here! THAT is not fair, Drake.’
Drake slammed his hands on the steering wheel. ‘She fell off her bike, what was I supposed to do-’
‘YOU DON'T DRIVE US TO THE FUCKING HOSPITAL!’ Camille screamed. Drake jumped back in shock.
‘You don't act like a fucking father!’ she continued, her voice high and piercing, every word cutting into Drake like a knife.
‘You don't act all concerned and reassuring! You keep your fucking distance because if you didn't want to be a dad five years ago, you certainly don't want to be a dad now and I can't have Lily falling in love with you like I did -’
‘What?’
That last admission was all Drake picked up on.
Camille instantly went rigid. She turned away and brought her hands up to her face, covering her eyes.
‘Oh god..’ she muttered. ‘Oh god, oh god…’
‘You loved me?’ Drake asked.
Camille didn't answer. She was shaking.
‘Camille, answer me.’
Camille let out a shaky breath. She wound her hands together and not looking at him, she spoke.
‘I fell for you that night,’ she told him. ‘Sounds ridiculous. How can you fall in love with someone in one night? But I've known you for years and always liked you. Thought you were gorgeous in a rugged, disheveled way. But that night, getting to know you, talking till 3am about our secrets and dreams, being together… I fell over the edge. It makes no sense but I guess when you get that feeling, you can't deny it. You called it a drunken mistake but for me, it was a revelation.’
Drake stared at the steering wheel, processing her words. How could he tell her that everything he said to her, after finding out about the baby, was a lie?
It hadn't been a drunken mistake for him, not really. He had loved being with Camille that night. Everything had felt like it was supposed to. Like the universe had aligned.
‘But when I told you I was pregnant and you were so harsh… I realised I was stupid to have feelings for you,’ Camille explained. ‘I felt so rejected. Worthless. I couldn't hear staying in the same town as you, seeing you everyday and I didn't want my baby to grow up knowing you. If you could hurt me that badly, you could hurt her. And I still think that.’
A lump formed in Drake’s throat.
‘Then why did you ask me why I made that decision five years ago?’ he asked.
Camille kept her eyes away from him. ‘Closure.’
Without a word, she got out of the truck. She slammed the door. The sound jolted Drake. He watched her walk away and it felt like deja vu.

Matthias convinced Y/N to go out with him that night, get to know the people in town. “Matt, the point of moving to this old ranch was to get far, far away from people.” Y/N turned to her brother placing a hand on his shoulder. “But you should go, have fun. Call me if you’re too drunk to drive, ok?” - “No, no, no, I’m not leaving you. Let’s go.” He pushed her out the door with him.
As the siblings walk inside the Side Step they immediately notice the group of people hanging at the bar laughing and joking, the bartender seems to know them really well. “Two of them are rangers.” Matthias noticed. “Good, you might behave then.” Y/N joked going up to the bar to order. “Two beers please.” - “I need to see your ID sweetheart” - “I’m sorry?” Y/N looked questioning at the man hovering over the bartender, she pushed him away. “Hoyt, don't.” - “No no, I need to know who that new chick is.” - “Why don’t you get over here and find out.” Y/N answered, counting her money not even looking at the man.
“You’re new in town?” She tried to lighten up the heavy mood, handing her the beers. “Uhu” She answered turning, she saw the tall ranger looking at her, observing everything that just happened. He nodded, she just walked towards their table. She could feel his eyes on her back.
“What was that?” Matt asked her. “Some drunk thought he was funny, nothing special.”
As the night moved on the booze flowed, Hoyt couldn’t seem to shake his curiosity and wanted to get the know the two new faces. He stepped towards their table. “So, honey, are you going to tell your name?” He smiled at her while hanging an arm over her shoulder. Matthias laughed at the face Y/N was making. “What’s so funny buddy?” Hoyt asked. “You’re about to find out... Buddy.”
Y/N got up and twisted his arm pushing him away.
Cordell saw the scene and walked over.
“Are you ok?” He looked at Hoyt when he walked with shame back to the bar. “Maybe, you should leave these people alone hey.” He padded his back when he crossed his way. “Please excuse my friend, he is... very present when he is drunk.” He smiled slightly at Y/N before looking at Matthias. “Cordell Walker.” He shook Matt his hand. “Texas Ranger. I go by Walker mostly.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Matthias Jones, this is my sister Y/N. “
He finished his greetings by holding his hand out towards you, which out of respect you accepted. “You don’t sound from here?” He asked carefully, while shaking your hand. “We we’re raised in Belgium, but our father is from Louisiana.”
“Oh really? What made come here, to Texas I mean?” It was very clear to Matthias that his charm worked on you. All of the sudden you wouldn’t mind talking to a stranger. “That is a little personal. But eh, I wanted a fresh start, and my baby brother just won’t leave my side.” She winked at him. “I’m only 10 minutes younger thank you!” Cordell laughed at that, it reminded him of his kids. “Vacation?” He added “No, we bought the old ranch from eh... What was his name again? Parker?” - “Parker? Bill Parker?” Walker asked shocked. “Never thought he would sell that old piece of junk.”
Y/N narrowed her eyes at his comment. Leaving Walker awkward looking at her realising he just commented on their new home. “Lot of work yes, but we can manage it.” She snapped at the ranger making it clear it was time to end this conversation. “Well, it was nice to meet you, both. Have great evening.” He walked back to Micki. “She seems nice.” - “Yeah, they moved here, Parkers old place.” The rest of that evening Cordell kept looking over to Y/N wondering if he needed to apologise for his words.
The next day you and Matt were working on the house when Walker decided to drop by on his way to work. His excuse was to check in on the new folks in town, but he actually wanted to see you again. When he arrived, he saw Y/N on the roof when Matthias was working on the porch. “Ah ranger Walker.” she heard her brother greet the tall man. Y/N nodded at him but didn’t want to stop working on her project. A few seconds later she looked down again, noticing the two men were gone. So typical, she thought, the second Matthias had a chance to quite working he takes it.

“Can I get you something to drink?” - “Eh no thanks, how is it going here?” he answered while he looked around. “Lot of work, thank god my sister is handy.” He laughs “Me on the other hand not so much. I’m more of an artistic person.” He points to the paintings on the wall. “You made those?” - “Yeah, me and my boyfriend had an art gallery in Brussels, I painted he sold them.” - “Did he move with you guys to Texas?” Walker asked still looking at his work.
“Eh no, he and my sister, not a good match. She eh, changed after the dead of her fiancé.”
That made Cordell turn, to face Matt again. “What happened?”
“Can’t tell” The men heard Y/N’s voice coming from the backdoor. “Not because I don’t want to, but I have signed for professional secrecy for life.” She looked mad at Matthias. ”And you know that.”
She turned to Walker, her face softened. “Army?” He asked, she nodded. “I see.” still looking at her. There is something about her, he can’t put his finger on it, but she intrigued him.
“I’m going to get started again.” Matt left for the porch again. Neither of them really reacted. “Are you sure you don’t want a drink?” She asked opening the fridge, turning her back to him. Walker didn’t answer, he just looked her up and down admiring her curves. Until he noticed Y/N looking at him, waiting for an answer. “Eh yeah, no thanks.” He smiled shyly. “I better let you to it then.” He started to walk to the front door.
Once outside he put his hat back on. “Oh, before I forget.” he turned back to her, place one foot on the first step of the porch, looking up at her. “There is a barbecue this evening at the Side Step, my parents their wedding anniversary, the whole town in invited. Would love for you to come.” Y/N seemed in doubt, almost refusing the invitation. “We’ll be there.” She heard Matt yell. - “Great.” he smiled at her.
“Really Matt, We’ll be there.” She imitated his voice. “Oh come on Y/N! That man clearly is trying to get to know you!” - “No he isn’t!” Her voice cracked when she answered way to fast. Matthias smiled. “What are you going to wear?” Y/N looked down, her hands gesturing “this”.
“No, no, no, you are not going to dinner in a flannel and dirty jeans.” - “What’s wrong with it? I always dress like this. AND It’s a barbecue, not a fancy dinner.” - “Yeah, it’s great when you’re up on the roof fixing it. Let’s at least try and find something we both like.”
They both agreed on a simple yet low cut, creme coloured top with a neat pair of skinny jeans and her brown cowboy boots and a belt in the same colour as her boots. Her hair freshly washed, while Matt insisted on curling it slightly, letting it down over her shoulders.

They arrived at the party, Cordell came walking down the second he saw you. “You made it. Let me introduce you to my family and friends.” he smiled polite. “Mom, Dad this is Y/N and Matthias Jones. Meet my parents Bonham and Abeline Walker.” Y/N shook their hand and congratulated them on their anniversary, and so did Matthias. “Thank you so much for coming.” Abeline said with a soft voice. “Ah and there is my brother, Liam.” He waved at you while ordering a drink. “Cute.” Matthias said without thinking twice. “He is single.” Cordell laughed. “Oh really?” and before she knew she was left alone with Walker who introduced Y/N to all the town folks before ordering her a drink.
"How do you like it in Texas so far?” He asked while handing her a drink. “It’s great, everyone is friendly. Some are a little too friendly.” She grinned while looking over at Hoyt, who politely nodded at you. “You just got to get to know him. He’ll grow on you.”
“Dad, is it ok that Auggie and I go with Hoyt? He wants to surprise Geri but needs our help.” - “Yeah sure, be safe.”
Cordell noticed Y/N looking at him with questions in her eyes while taking a sip of her drink. “My daughter Stella, and my youngest August.” He pointed at them. “Beautifull girl.” Y/N said sincerely, but couldn’t help to think Stella was almost an adult, which made her and Stella, what 9 or 10 years apart? “Yeah, she gets that from her mom.” - “Where is she?” she asked trying not to sound all to disappointed while looking in the crowed. “She eh, she passed away a few years ago.” Walked answered looking at his feet.
“Oh, I’m so sorry Walker.” Y/N placed a hand on his arm, feeling awful for him. “Must have been tough raising two teenagers on your own.” -” I had my family, they were a real support.” After a short silence she opened her mouth. “How did you... cope with the loss of your wife?” She asked him afraid to look at him. “Honestly, I drowned myself in work. Took an undercover job, left my kids with my parents and brother.” he took a deep breath before he whispered. ”I was a shitty father, I should have been there for them. Stella still hates me, and I can’t blame her.”
Y/N saw the tears in his eyes even though he was trying to hold them back, she looked back at her drink. “I almost got my teammates killed.” He looked at her. She continued “I ignored a direct order, thought I knew better, could do better. Ever since Tyler died I walked on the edge, not caring anymore whether my actions would kill me or not.” Y/N took a sip. “Tyler grew fond of a family back “there”, their kids brought him handmade gifts from clay and stuff. When they were abducted, I wanted to find them, I thought by ignoring my orders I could at least save them since I couldn’t save Ty.”
A single tear rolled down her cheek. Cordell was still looking at Y/N, she could feel it. “My teammates followed me, like good soldiers, like great friends. We almost lost one in an ambush, Tom, he told he didn’t want me to go alone, that Ty wouldn’t want that, I didn’t want him to get hurt, I wanted to go alone. But he like all of them always got my back, even when my actions were irresponsible.” She took another sip.
Y/N felt a thumb rubbing the tear away. She looked up, locking eyes with Cordell. Seeing a tint of green she had not noticed yet. His hand still lingering on her cheek. “We all made mistakes, loss, pain, it makes us do stupid things.” For the first time she felt like someone knew her pain. The warmth of his hand against her cheek made her want to feel more, holding back desperately not to fall into his arms, knowing that once he would wrap his arms around her the tears would come running down. I need air, Y/N thought breaking eye contact.
“Want to go for a walk?” Cordell asked like he heard her thoughts. Y/N nodded, walking quickly past Cordell to the door, he followed her shortly after getting his jacket. They remained silent for a while, leaving the sound of the party behind them, hearing nothing but crickets and the sound of their boots. “I’m sorry Walker, for over sharing.” - “Don’t be, I’m kind of glad you did.” She stopped walking turning to him. “It makes me feel less alone.” He said stepping closer to her locking eyes again.
Y/N let go of a shiver, not knowing if it was the cold air or the feeling he unlocked by looking in her eyes like he was searching for her soul. “Cold?” He asked while putting his jacked over her shoulder, making him stand closer to her, his scent floated around her making her head feeling light. His hands lingered on the collar of his jacket while he hovered above her. Damn this man is tall she thought. Cordell’s eyes looked at her lips before slowly closing the space between them, giving her time to back out if she wanted.
Totally mesmerized she accepted his kiss, pulling him close by grabbing the side of his shirt. The feeling of her hands on his ribs made him breath out heavy. Both taking a second to get some air before closing the small gab again. One of his large hands found its way to the back of her head. His finger nesting in her hair. The taste of him made Y/N want more, slowly standing on her toes like it would be possible to take more of his lips.
“Yo Cordi! We’re heading out man!” Both were startled when they hear Hoyt’s voice. Letting go of each other like two embarrassed teenagers. “Ow, shit man I’m sorry!” He said while he chuckled. “Party is over, I’m driving your parents back to their house, I’ll see you later.” He looked proud back and forward between Y/N and his best friend, before turning the other way. “He grows on you, right?” She joked to break the silence while looking at her phone seeing a text from Matt.

“Can I give you a ride home? My car is parked over there.” He offered - “That would be great.” - “Let me find Liam real quick.”

Matty: “Are you ok? Can’t find you, planning on leaving.”
Y/N: “Yeah, I'm fine. Walker is driving me home.”
Matty: “Ha! Great I’m driving the other Walker brother home ; )”
“I think Liam has a ride.” She showed her phone to Cordell who only smiled. As they walk to his car she feels the warmth of his hand against the small of her back. The drive home was quiet but loaded with a mixture of unspoken questions and the need to touch each other again. Once almost home she noticed how Cordell parks his car just out of side beside their house, turning towards her. “Y/N, about tonight.” Oh god he is regretting it, was all she could think. “I don’t know what I need right now, but I know it felt, good.” he paused “And if you want, I would like to get to know you. But I can’t promise you anything. I just...” He was struggling to find the right words.
“I know what you mean, I’m not sure what I need, I’m not ready to move on from Tyler, that’s for sure.” Y/N grabbed his hand. “But I do now that, tonight, you, made me forget my sorrow for a second. And it felt great.” Y/N moved closer kissing his lips staying close to his face. “So how about for now, we’re just two strangers finding comfort in each other?” The side of his lip curled up.  “Perfect.” he added before kissing her back.
After a few minutes, making out in his car like teenagers, Y/N hears her brother’s car arrive. “That’s my cue.” - “See you soon?” - “Would love that.” Y/N got out of the car, Cordell followed her before she could turn to the driveway, he pulled her back, against a big tree. Kissing her one more time. “See you soon sweetheart.” Leaving her breathless while he hopped back in his truck.
“How was your night?” Her brother asked her batting his lashes at her. “What’s up with you?” She asked trying to sound normal. “You were gone quite some time with that ranger. Tell me everything...” - “Nothing happened.” - “Yeah right.” Y/N sighs. “Walker lost his wife a few years back.” Y/N placed her hands on your side. “We talk about her and Tyler for a while, I got teary, and we went for a walk, cooling down.” That wasn’t entirely a lie. Y/N felt her eyes tear up again.  “Oh sis, I'm sorry. Come here.” Matthias pulled her in a hug, immediately noticing the smell of Walker lingering on her. But instead of pointing out the facts he just kept his mouth shut and hugged her closer.
Y/N woke up the next morning feeling guilty towards Tyler. She decides to avoid Walker for now. Hopefully he felt the same way. She dedicated all her time to rebuild the house. Weeks went by, she sends Matt to the store, avoiding getting into town. Making sure Walker wouldn’t see her. Tonight Matt and Liam made plans, again, Y/N was thrilled but once her little brother left, she started to think, If things would get serious between them, she would become family with Cordell. “Oh god.” she sighs. “Oh no, It’s just me.” Cordell walked through the open door. Which made Y/N startle almost falling of the ladder. Cordell ran to her holding her back helping her down.
“Hi.” he said still holding her close. Y/N didn’t know how to react she gave him a half smile before walking back out of his arms. Walking around the table, putting space between them. “Are you ok?” He asked. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?” - “ I feel like you’ve been avoiding me. Did I do something wrong?” - “No Walker it’s just...” her voice trailed off. “You regret it.” - “ I feel guilty.” Y/N snapped. Looking at him, making the mistake of making eye contact.
Cordell took off his hat, his big hand going through his hair. “I thought... you said it made you feel good.” - “It did.” Y/N admitted -” Then why feel guilty?” he walked around the table towards her. “I-I don’t know.” not sure she said that out loud or thought it. Y/N looked at him getting closer. He still wore his uniform, after all those years in the army she would have never thought she’d go weak for a man in uniform, yet here she goes. Mouthwatering, wanting to jump that man, tasting his lips, feeling his hands on her body.
Y/N finds her strength to turn around, but that doesn’t stop Cordell. She can feel his warmth on her back. His hand between her shoulders, his lips getting very close to her ear. “If you want me to go or leave you alone. Just say it.” Y/N closes her eyes, letting out a shivering breath letting her head fall back, against his shoulder. He kisses the temple of her head and wraps his arms around her pulling her extra close.
The heated tension between them grows. Cordell’s hands started to move to her sides to her hips, teasingly playing with the hem of her shirt while his lips move from her head over her cheek to that one spot down on her neck. First kissing, but when his tongue moved up from her shoulder to her ear, biting the earlobe softly it felt like something in her chanced.
Y/N turned around pulling Walker in by his neck. Her tongue asking to meet his, kissing, hungry for more, not getting enough. She placed her hands over his, pushing them down letting his know it’s ok to touch her further. His big hands covered her ass, kneading while she opened a few buttons of his shirt, kissed and sucked at his collarbone, making him moan “Oh baby.” before kissing her lips again. Lifting her up carrying her over to the table. Pushing her legs open so he could stand in between them.
“Good girl.” he praised, making her moan under her breath. She never knew she liked that. “Say it again.” she begged. While he removed her shirt, covering her bra with his hands. “... You’re a good girl for me baby.” “Oh Fuck” She moaned while her head falls back. “You like that huh. You want me to praise you baby. Want to be my good little girl.” Y/N nodded fast “Are you going to let me take care of you? If you do...” he got close to her ear. “I might give you something you would love.” His hand got down over her pants, rubbing and cupping her clothed core.
“I’m going to take off your pants, lay still” He said, while pushing her back flat against the table. Y/N lifted her hips to help him taking off her pants and panties. Noticing they were soaked. “Fuck baby, you won’t need this anymore.” He kissed her clit making her whimper and grabbing his hair. “Na-ah, hands above your head baby girl.” then he pulled her closer to the edge of the table, lifting her legs over his shoulder. “Here you are playing hard to get, while your body is telling me different things honey.” He said before licking a strip over her already soaked core.
Cordell took his time, trying to find all the spots, all the things that made her crumble under his touch. He loved the sound of Y/N saying his name is prayer. His fingers moving so painfully slow inside. “Oh baby girl, I want more, I need more of you.” he said with a voice so deep of lust. “Take what you need... Take me Cordell.” Y/N said while her hand strokes his hair again. Hearing Y/N saying his first name made him rumble under his breath. Like a man processed he got up pulling her back to him by her arm. Kissing her, she could still taste herself on him.
“Are you sure?” He asked slowing down a bit. Her hand moved down to hold him. “Give me everything Cordell.” He thrusted in her hand before undoing his pants. She took off his shirt. He lined himself up against her slit, looking at her when he thrusted in. Memerised by the way she opens her mouth. Once fully inside he let her adjust a little, until he felt she moved slightly, impatient to feel more, even though she felt so full. He quickly found a hard and steady pace she seemed to enjoy.
“Fuck baby, you’re so tight.” he moaned in her ear. “Feels so good. Take me so good baby.” His hold on her hips tightens making his thrust harder and faster. Y/N wrapped her legs a little higher, Cordell grabbed the back of her knee. “Lay back down.” he ordered, she obeyed. “Good girl.” He lifted her legs on his shoulder, kneading her thighs as he pulled her back every time he thrusted inside her, hitting that one spot that made her cry out his name so sinfully she was glad no one was in the house. “Oh god, don’t stop Cordell. I’m...I’m so close.”
Walker pushed Y/N over the edge, feeling her tighten made him come inside her within seconds. Unable to hold back his own orgasm until she came down from her high. “Fuck that was...” - “Amazing.” he finished her sentence. Kissing her again. “Let me get you some tissues.”
After a shower Cordell placed himself in bed while looking at Y/N trying to find something to wear. He got up pulling her close to him. “Come here, I’ll keep you warm.” He kissed her pulling her over him to the other side of the bed, spooning. Before they knew they fell asleep.
By the morning Cordell looked at the two of them in the mirror next to the bed, cuddling, her lips separated a little. So peacefully. “Fuck, I'm falling in love.” He thought while he kissed her hair. He looked over to the nightstand noticing a picture of her and a man. He presumed Tyler.
Cordell noticed Y/N waking up, he thought by pretending to be asleep she might stay in bed with him. But unfortunately, she didn’t. He felt her moving very quietly out of bed. Putting on clothes, without thinking she chose an old shirt from Tyler and left the bedroom. Cordell stayed a little longer in bed thinking, she is regretting this.
Y/N hoped her brother wasn’t home yet, or at least he didn’t notice the clothes that where lingering on the floor in the kitchen. But by the smell of fresh coffee, it seemed her fear was real. “Goooood morning.” He grinned looking fresh with a cup of coffee in his hand. He lifted Cordell’s shirt with his finger. “Fun night?” he smiled. Y/N felt her cheeks blush “I eh...” - “It’s ok sis, I’m glad for you.” He handed her a cup of coffee. “It was time to move on.” - “Move on? Oh wait, Matt this isn’t what you think.”
Cordell walked down the stairs he heard Y/N and Matthias talk. “Walker and I aren’t a thing. We just... it just happened. No strings attached.” Those words gave him a heavy feeling in his stomach, but he kept listening, noticing she was wearing a men’s shirt.  “So, you mean that, you... you Y/N out of all people, miss ‘I do not hook up” just had a one night stand?” She shrugged her shoulders while taking a sip. “And I thought I was the rebel... how was he?” - “Matthias!” she hit his shoulder with the back of her hand.
“Morning.” Cordell said walking in the kitchen wearing only his pants and boots. “I believe that’s mine.” He said without embarrassment pointing at his shirt in Matt’s hand. “Oh, ha yeah I believe it is.” He tossed it to Cordell but kept his eyes on him while he pulled it over his head. Staring a little too obvious. “You have a little drool.” Y/N whispered while whipping his mouth with a napkin jokingly. He smacked her hand away.
“Coffee Cordell?” Y/N asked. “Eh, no I'm late for work.” he said, in doubt if he had to kiss her goodbye in front of her brother. So instead, he left a small peck on her cheek, looking over to Matthias who looked away, smiling. “I’ll show you out.” She said walking him to the door. “I’m sorry I forgot about him for a while.” she whispered when he stood on the other side of the door. “It’s ok, I’m glad my brother wasn’t here this morning, that would be awkward.” He took her hand. “I had a great time last night.” Y/N smiled slightly nodding in agreement. “See you soon” he said, while kissing her lips softly, not waiting for a response.
She closed the door.
“Really Y/N give that man a chance. He’s clearly into you. He could have snugged out but instead he did the walk of shame.” - “He needed his shirt Matt. What is more embarrassing, walking without your uniform, naked torso to work or seeing the brother of the woman you just slept with. Who by the way is crazy about his brother.” - “I’m not crazy about Liam! I like him sure, but he stated that he doesn’t want more than being friends. And don’t try to turn this around!” Y/N rolled her eyes.
“Come on Y/N! He is perfect for you!” - “Really, ok why.” - “He is tall, friendly, has a great job, nice parents, manners, smells great,” Y/N looked weird at her brother “You were covered in his scent that night after the barbecue, ... and did you even look at him last night? I mean I just saw that man’s chest and I went feral, sun kissed skin, those shoulders, abs, big hands... I know what that means Y/N” he lifted his eyebrows quick while looking down at his crotch. “Ok I heard enough. Don’t forget that Tom is landing tomorrow. We need to pick him up at the airport.” Y/N said walking away before he made her blush. “You even walk weird.” he said jokingly “NO I DON’T!” he heard her yell from the top of the stairs.
The next few weeks Y/N and Cordell texted back and forward, called each other when they needed a talk, about family, friends, work or even Emily of Tyler. But Y/N seemed busy, unable to meet with Cordell.
One night, Cordelll and Hoyt decided to go for a drink at the Side Step. Both in their casual flannels. He had told him about what he thought he started to feel for her. The more he spends time apart the more he wanted to see her again, but he didn’t want to push her away.

Walker saw Y/N in the corner of his eye, but she wasn’t alone, he noticed her laughing and joking around with this stranger. “Looks like someone is interested in your girl.” Hoyt joked. “She isn’t my girl.” he said firm. Hours passed and Y/N still haven’t noticed Walker, while he kept looking at those two. The guy stood up to order another round at the bar, he saw Y/N looking at her phone. That’s when he decided to text her. “Hi.” She didn’t answer. “Having fun?” No answer.
“Go talk to her.” Hoyt insisted. “No.” - “Fine, then I'll do it.” He got up and walked over to her. “Well, who do we have her. Y/N Jones” - “Look who finally knows my name, tell me Hoyt how long did it take?” She joked back. “Not long, I am friends with a ranger, who, you know, we both know very, very well.” he winked. “Who is this?” - “Tom meet Hoyt the jester of this town. Hoyt, Tom an old friend.”
After a little small talk Hoyt left their table. “Well great to meet you, Tom. I’m going back to my old friend over there.” Pointing to Cordell who looked away just in time, hanging on the bar. “Great fella” Tom laughed. Y/N followed Hoyt seeing Cordell now for the first time, all casually dressed, his flannel sleeves curled up, showing his strong arms, but seemingly a bit drunk, the second she looked at him she felt the warmth in her body glowing. “Will you excuse me for a second?”
“Hi stranger.” She greets him. “Hi.” he said swiftly looking at her. “Are you ok?” he didn’t answer. “Cordell?” - “Walker” he corrected her. She looked shocked. “Few nights ago you didn’t mind me saying your name.” - “Yes, well mistakes happen.” - “Mistakes.... We need to talk. Outside. Now.” - “I’m fine right here sweetheart.” - “Oh, don’t sweetheart me. And trust me what I want to say, you don’t want your friends to hear.”
“Do us all a favour and go back to your boyfriend over there.” He said turning his back to her. “Oh, so that’s what this is? You’re Jalouse.” - “I’m not, I just don’t like to be fooled with.” - “Fooled with? You were the one who said, and I quote: Can’t promise you anything.” - “And you said you were still grieving over Tyler.” - “That’s true.” - “Then, tell me what are you doing on a date here with that guy over there?” - “That guy there is Tom, Tylers best friend, you know the guy I talked about.”
Cordell remembered the story about the guy who followed her against their orders, almost getting killed. This left Walker feeling like a complete asshole. “Y/N, I-I'm..” - “Keep it Walker. I thought you were man enough to talk to me. But this is just childish.” He held her arm when she wanted to walk away. “Let go of me!” She pushed him, not moving him an inch. “Hey buddy, would let go of her.” Tom stepped closer to Walker. “This has nothing to do with you, leave out of this.” Walker said to Tom.
“Y/N’s worries are my worries. Let go.” He said extremely self-controlled. Walker looked at Y/N seeing not only anger but hurt as well. He was afraid if he let her go, she would never talk to him again. He released her arm slowly, afraid that he crossed the line with her. Y/N took her jacket and left with Tom towards her car.
“Who was that?” Tom asked her while driving home. “Cordell Walker.” - “The ranger you talked about?” She hummed. “Well damn, I thought he might have been the guy who would finally make you move on.” - “What?!” she stopped to car to look at Tom. “Y/N, I know you will always love Tyler. But even he wouldn’t want you to be miserable all the time.”
“I can’t Tom. Even since... I keep making mistakes.” - “Walker was a mistake?” - “Clearly. He acted like a jalouse kid.” - “I don’t know, he handled it wrong, yes, but the fact that he is jalouse is because he likes you.” - “I don’t like him.” - “That’s bullshit, you slept with the guy, you never EVER do that if you don’t like the fella.” - “He said he didn’t want anything.” - “To protect himself.” Y/N let out a sigh. “Drop me off at home, drive back, talk to him.”
So, she did, but he left already. Geri was nice enough to give his address. Driving up the driveway she saw him standing outside under the stars, looking over the meadows. He heard the sound of her footsteps closing in.
“Hi.” He said looking surprised and a little more sober. “Hi.” she said leaning over the fence with him, shoulder to shoulder. “Y/N I'm sorry, I acted like an asshole. I don’t know what happened to me.” - “It’s ok, I might have ignored you a little since Tom’s arrival. I just haven’t seen him since I left the army. But I should have told you.” - ”I guess seeing you with Tom made me realise I like you a little more then I want to admit.” This made Y/n smile.
“So, what’s next?” Cordell asked her. She took his arm and wrapped it around her shoulder so she could lay her head against his chest, taking a deep breath, allowing his scent to fill her nose and make her head light. Being this close to him made her feel the heat boiling up inside her again. She kissed his neck right under his cheek. This made him look at her, his hand moved to the back of her head, holding her to kiss her soft lips. Each kiss got deeper and deeper, clinging on to each other.
“Stay tonight” Cordell said lightly out of breath. “Is staying here, now the best idea? I mean, your kids seeing dad waking up with another woman?” He thought about that. “You’re right, but I don’t want to let go of you yet.” He kissed her neck. “To be honest, I really, really, really want to be with you tonight, without fishing for clothes in a kitchen in the morning.” Y/N started to giggle at the memory.
“Well, why don’t I drive home and take you with me?” His eyes grew dark with her words. “And you start taking off those clothes for me once we are in the bedroom?” She added while kissing up his neck, pulling on his shirt. “I don’t think I can wait that long.” He lifted her up over his shoulder, making Y/N let out a little yelp, while walking towards the shed.
He placed her down, he sat himself down on the old couch pulling her on his lap. “Really, the shed? Are we teens again?” - “I told you I needed you now.” He pulled her closer to him, making her hips grind on his crotch, feeling he is already hard and ready for her. “Fine” she agreed lifting herself up to take place between his knees. Pulling his pants down, her hands quickly found their way to his hard dick. Pumping him while she locked eyes with him. She could see the surprise but also the heat in his eyes.
When Y/N added her lips over the tip, sucking softly, slowly taking more and more of him in her mouth he let his head fall back. “Oh baby.” he moaned while his fingers found their way to her hair. There was no way she could take all of him in her mouth, but she was determined to give him the same pleasure he gave her nights ago. When her tongue followed the vein on his penis, he let out a growl she never heard from him again.
She hummed with that sound. “You’re proud of yourself aren’t ya.” he said breathless caressing her face. When she then responded with an extra twist of her hand kneading a little harder, he bucked his hips up, make her almost gag. She let him go with a pop, Cordell pulled her up, almost ripping her pants in the process of taking them off.
He pulled her back on his lap, her legs straddling him, while rubbing her already wet folds over his dick, coating him before she slowly let herself drop on to him. “Oh Cordell, fuck, you feel so good.” - “You like it don’t you, me filling you up.” The air filled with moans and heavy breathing while they kissed, licked, sucked every inch of each other's body.
Walker’s hands kneaded at Y/N’s hips, helping to find a rhythm that felt for both of them like heaven. “Oh baby... slowdown, I-I'm not going to last long if you keep doing this.” - “Don’t hold back Cordell. I want you to fill me.” She whispered breathless in his ear. “I want you to come inside me.” she added while biting his neck. “Fuck.” He moaned and pulled her close, his lips were on her collarbone, his hands holding her steading between her shoulders and neck.
Cordell started to thrust with the same speed as Y/N grinded. She felt him getting sloppy in his thrusts, groaning and breathing harder. “Oh Y/N...” was the last thing he said before he came hard inside her. He held her close while he came down from his height. He let go of her slightly so he could look up at her.
As planned, they drove back to Y/N’s place. Sneaking up to her room like two teenagers. He pulled her in for another kiss. “I’m going to take a quick shower” Y/N whispered in their kiss. Grabbing a towel and leaving Cordell alone in her bedroom. But he had other plans.
She heard the shower curtain move, before she could turn around Cordell was already standing close behind her. “I think I forgot something.” his hands moving over her side to her breasts. “Yeah, what’s that?” - “I don’t remember feeling you cuming.” She chuckled “ That’s ok.” One of his hands dropped down between her legs make her automatically open them slightly for him.
“No it’s not.” He rubbered her clit with one hand while still holding one breast in the other. “You see. I think I might be addicted to hearing you moan my name.” He slipped two of his fingers inside her. Making her hands to grab back to his hair, pulling his lips to her neck. “Still so wet for me.” His finger moved quickly in and out of her, while his thumb rubbed the bundle of nerves at the top. Making her breath heavy. “Cordell, we have to be quiet. Matt is sleeping next door.” - “I don’t care.”
He turned her around, pusher he back to the wall. His mouth sucked at her nipples while his fingers kept pushing and curling inside her. Y/N’s back arched, Cordell could feel her tightening around his fingers. ‘Let go baby. You can do it.” He moved to her other breast, sucking and kissing. “Oh god...Cordell!” She grabbed his shoulders to keep steady while her orgasm made her body shiver.
Cordell pulled Y/N closer in bed, her fingers drawing circles on his chest. Walker kissed her head. “Y/N?” - “Hmm?” - “I know I said I can’t promise you anything, but I think I...” He let go of a sigh. “I think I want more than casual sex.” She didn’t response immediately, he could feel her fingers stopped moving, “I mean, if you are ready for more of course.” She lifted to look at him.
“I think I'm ready to move on. I think I’m ready to accept a new man in my life.”
“Could that man be me?”
“Only you.”

“That’s it! The last one!” Riley declared as she removed the needle from the rump of the heifer in the chute in front of her. Turning her head to the cowboy manning the chute door she said, “Let her out!”
“I really can’t thank you for everything you’ve done for us, Riley.”
Riley turned to smile at Drake’s mother. Dressed in trousers, a flannel shirt, and boots, with her hair tied back and pushed under a wide-brimmed hat, Bianca Throckmorton Walker looked every bit the matriarch of a family of ranchers.
Riley shook her head with a laugh, “What? Administering annual vaccinations to the herd? Any of your cowboys could have done that!”
“I’m not talking about that, and you know it! I’m not sure the herd would have survived without your intervention. Walk with me for a minute?”
Liam did not follow Riley after she left Hana’s room. She hadn’t expected him to, she meant it when she said he needed to stay and focus on his wife and unborn child.
It still hurt.
She clung to Drake and poured that hurt out as she sobbed in his arms.
“Is Hana okay?” Drake asked in alarm.
Riley nodded as she lifted her head to take in the concern in his eyes and it somehow made her feel better. She wiped her face as she staunched her tears and came to a decision, “I’m going to Texas with you.”
“What?”
“You said something was wrong with the herd, but no one knows what?”
“Yes, but-“
“Do you have a large animal veterinarian on staff?”
“No, because-“
“Because there’s an alarming shortage of large animal veterinarians in the U.S.”
“Right. We have one that we use but he covers a very large area and is currently at a ranch about two hundred miles away investigating a similar issue there.”
Riley nodded as she stepped out of his arms, “Vets who work with farm and ranch animals have to work outside in the elements, no matter how hot, how cold, or how rainy, they stay on their feet all day and they work long hours.”
“Yeah, that sounds like the job description,” Drake agreed.
“They’re also on call several nights a week. Most new graduations are choosing small animal care, dogs, cats, even exotics because they have regular hours in an air-conditioned office.”
“And the fewer people that choose to go into it, the worse the workload gets for everyone else,” Drake surmised.
“Yep! And the less anyone new wants to sign up for fourteen-hour days and being on call five days a week.”
“Yeah, okay….so?”
“So, there’s a good chance that no one is coming to help you in time.”
“Yeah, but….Riley, this isn’t your problem, you don’t have to-“ he rubbed the back of his neck as he fought an internal battle. As much as he would love to take her home with him and have a chance to get to know her better, he wasn’t sure she was thinking clearly. She was obviously upset.
“Drake!” Her tone was sharp, “I don’t have to tell you that losing an entire herd could be financially catastrophic for a cattle ranch.”
The fidgeting stopped as his eyes searched her face, finding nothing but an earnest seriousness there. She was right. Losing the herd might be a blow the ranch couldn’t recover from. “Riley, are you sure?”
“I’m sure! Now come on, I need to go pack! And I’m going to need the contact information for that other vet so we can compare notes and hopefully nip whatever this thing is in the bud!”
“I can’t take all the credit for that,” Riley followed Bianca up a small hill overlooking the northern part of the ranch, “Wow, this is a great view!”
“Isn’t it? My grandfather used to bring me up here when I was a kid. He’d tell me stories about the ranch’s history, point out all the places we could see from here, and explain what each was used for.”
“That sounds like a good memory.”
“It is. Later, after he died, I started coming up here by myself. At first, it was just to feel close to him, but the more time I spent looking at and thinking about this place, the more determined I was to save it.”
Riley nodded in understanding. Drake had told her how Bianca’s father had abandoned the ranch. Preferring the cushy life of a politician to the harsh life of a rancher, he had let the ranch fall into a state of disrepair. “I get it. You love this place. It’s obvious.”
“I do. The only thing I love more is my children; you’re good for both.”
“What?” Riley blinked against the afternoon sun as she studied the other woman’s face.
“You’re good for this ranch, Riley, and you’re good for my son.”
“Oh…I…”
“I’m not reading that situation wrong, am I?”
A flush spread across Riley’s face, “No, ma’am, you’re not.”
Riley had been prepared to stay in a hotel room, but neither Drake nor his mother would hear of it. She had been given a room in the main house, right down the hall from Drake.
The first few weeks she had tried to maintain some kind of boundary between them. She was there for the cattle, she was there to give Liam and Hana space, and she was there to heal a little and figure out her next steps.
What she wasn’t there to do was jump straight into another relationship, one with Liam’s best friend, one that was likely a rebound. Especially when she was there to work.
But it had proven impossible to keep her distance from him for any appreciable amount of time. Not only did he run the ranch, which threw them into close proximity with each other as they worked to find the cause of the illness spreading through the herd, but since she had agreed to stay at the ranch rather than a hotel, they were eating meals together and spending their downtime together.
“Why have you been avoiding me?”
“What?” Riley spun toward the voice. She hadn’t heard anyone enter the stables, “What makes you think I’ve been avoiding you?”
“Because you’ve been avoiding me.”
She sighed as she tightened the girth on the horse she was tacking up, “I’m sorry, I just wasn’t sure how to handle the whole situation.”
“What situation?” He opened another stall and lead a beautiful chestnut gelding out. He wasn’t going to cancel his plans to ride just because she was there first. In fact, he was prepared to follow her if that’s what he had to do to get answers.
“You know what situation, Drake.”
“No, I really don’t. I thought we really hit it off in Cordonia. We got along well; the sex was amazing, and you spilled your guts to me on the plane ride home about everything with Hana and Liam. What changed? Did I do something wrong?”
Riley took the horse by the reins ready to lead her out of the stables, but she paused in astonishment, “What? No! You’ve been nothing short of amazing, Drake! You’ve been there for me in a way very few people ever have!”
He dropped the saddle he was about to put on the horse on the ground and moved closer to her, “Then why are you avoiding me?”
“I just…” tears welled up in her eyes, “I’m sorry. After everything that happened, what you witnessed with me and Liam and Hana….and after everything I told you….I just assumed you would want to extricate yourself from that whole mess. I didn’t want you to feel obligated-“
With almost no warning, she found herself in his arms, “Riley, look at me! Extricating myself from this situation, as you call it, is the last thing I want! And obligation is the last thing I feel when I think of you! Goddamn it, girl! How do you not know what you do to me?”
“I just thought, maybe I should get myself sorted before I get more entangled with you. I still have feelings for Liam and-“
“I’m well aware of your feelings for Liam,” his fingers traced up the side of her face and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. His eyes locked on hers, full of pleading, longing, and determination, “I’m not asking you to stop having feelings for Liam. I’m not asking you to end your relationship with him. But I am asking…no, I’m begging you, Riley, to give this, to give us the same chance! And I have never begged anyone for anything in my life! Don’t you want to know if this could be something?”
The world stood still as she stared back into his eyes for an eternity. Then she nodded.
“Yes? That’s a yes? You’ll give us a chance? Stop avoiding me?”
“Yes.”
He surged forward and claimed her lips.
“I’ve never seen my son this happy,” Bianca told her, “And you saved this ranch.”
“I had help,” Riley demurred.
“I know you collaborated with other ranches and vets in the area, but-“
“And Texas A&M University-“
“Yes, I’m aware, but still, it was you here on our land, up before the sun came up and up after it went down, working right alongside all of us. You kept up with seasoned ranch hands, Riley, that’s impressive.”
Riley laughed, “Don’t let the title fool you, I’m no stranger to hard work. I was waiting tables in my parent’s restaurant at twelve and I could run the kitchen by fifteen.”
“And you were top of your class in Veterinarian school.”
“Bianca! Did you run a background check on me?” Riley’s mouth fell open in astonishment.
Bianca shrugged, “When my son told me he was bringing some woman I’d never heard of home to mess with my cattle? You’re damn straight I did!”
Riley burst into laughter, “Fair enough!”
“I know you’re planning to return to Cordonia soon, but I wanted to make sure you knew that you had other options.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean you could stay. I’m offering you a job here at the ranch as well as a home. If you don’t want to stay in the main house, there’s a small guest house closer to the stables that you could take. And I’m also giving my stamp of approval to your relationship with my son.”
Riley sighed as she turned away from Bianca and looked out across the miles of pasture. The job offer wasn’t a total surprise. Large animal vets were scarce, and Bianca liked her.
But she wasn’t at all sure she wanted to move away from Cordonia permanently. “What if I say no to the job offer? Will you still give your blessing to my relationship with Drake?”
Bianca scoffed, “Of course, I will. I mean it, Riley, you’re good for him. Just think about the job for a day or two before you make up your mind, okay?”
“Okay,” she agreed, a multitude of emotions swirling and mixing inside her, “I’ll think about it.”

Law & Love Chapter 18
Tumblr media
After his daughter leaves, Beau sits back in his chair and runs a hand over his mouth.
Truth be told, he often ponders if getting back together for Emily's sake was beneficial to the teenager or not?
Yes, he loves Carla and the life he has here but all he can think of is the woman who had been sneaking her way into his heart during his time as Sheriff.
Beau would be lying if he said Y/N hadn't crossed his mind at least twice a day since he'd moved back to Texas.
He could hear a song and think of her, see the sun shining and remember how it illuminated her Y/H/C hair. She was sometimes on his mind more than Carla.
And for that, he felt terrible! He wanted things to work out with his ex-wife, he really did, but he also was slowly realizing he was no longer in love with the woman who warms his bed now.
Yes, Beau grew up in a 2-parent family who loved one another and never seemed to have a bad word to say about the other, but times had changed.
For one, Beau's Momma didn't work outside the home. Her career was taking care of the chores in the home, raising Beau and his brother and being a confidante for his father. And she did it with a smile on her face and love in her heart.
And Carla is the complete opposite. She works outside the home, sometimes long hours and most weekends. There are not many home-cooked meals to be had at the Arlen house, unless Beau himself grills something for he and his daughter; Carla's portion is always wrapped and stored in the refrigerator to be eaten later.
The more he thinks about it, the more he is certain that he is not happy with the way his life is going and as much as he hates to admit it, his ex-wife needs to stay that way; as an ex.
He sits up in his chair and turns to his computer, opening a document and begins typing up his resignation.

After Geri drops the bomb that she'd recently fucked Cordi, he acts as if the news was just small talk, but I seem unable to get past it.
The bartender's words played on repeat in my head all through dinner. 'This is whose name slipped out when we slept together the other night?'
Even as Cordi reaches out his hand, asking to dance, I can't help but glance toward Geri to see if she's watching; to see if she is planning on laying claim to the tall Ranger.
But, Geri seems unbothered by our presence as she continues to pour liquor and pull beers for other patrons.
As soon as we are in his truck heading back to the Walker ranch, I bring it up.
"So, how many women are you fucking?"
"What?" Cordi asks, never taking his eyes off the windshield. "What do you mean?"
"Well apparently, you get physical with Geri often. So, I want to know, his many other pussies are you banging? Because I'm pretty monogamous. There's only been you since before I moved West."
"Really?" Cordi questions as he looks over at me. "That's what has your panties all twisted? I've not been down here pining away for you; that I fucked a woman I've known for years?!"
“You act like it’s no big deal,” I explain, trying to control my disdain. “I just don’t see sex like that. I don’t go around fucking every Tom, Dick or Harry when I get the urge. It is an intimate act to me. I take pride in the fact that other than you, I’ve only been with 2 other men.”
“Like I’m going to believe that,” Cordell chuckles.
“What’s so funny about that?” I ask, letting my rage take over.
“Nothing, I guess. But,” Cordi pauses as he turns off the main road onto the dirt lane leading to the ranch. “You and I see sex totally differently. Sex is just that, sex. It’s a means to an end. I don’t have to love the person I’m fucking. Yea, I wanna make her feel good but I want her to make me feel good too.”
As we pull up to the front of his parents’ home, Cordell shuts the engine off and we both sit still, neither of us moving to get out. This night was turning out completely opposite of what I had assumed.
After a beat, Cordell shakes his head and opens his door, stepping out of the vehicle. Before closing the door, though, he speaks. “I really thought you knew this was a casual thing for us. I didn’t mean to lead you on.”
I sit in the cab of the truck long after he shuts the door and walks toward the barn with my phone in my hand as I navigate the airport website to book a 1 way ticket back to Helena; back to loneliness and missing Beau.
“Shit!” My little mini-vacation didn't turn out like I expected.
I step out of the truck and look around for the man who lives here but am instead met with dark silence.
Seeing as he is nowhere to be found, I begin walking down the gravelly lane toward the main road. It'll be easier for the cab to pick me up.
As the asphalt comes into view, my phone dings alerting me to a message. I pull it out of my pocket and open it to see something I'd never, ever expected.
Beau: Hey Y/N. It's Beau. Looks like I'm going to be coming back to Helena. Could we meet up and talk about some things?
Instead of texting back, I hit the call button and put the device to my ear, hearing it connect and begin ringing.
"Y/N?" Beau answers with my name rather than a normal "Hello".
"It's me."
"How you been, sweetheart?"
'I've had better days….and some worse ones too. So, what is taking you back to Montana?"
"Wait, what do you mean taking me back?! Don't you still live there? Please don't tell me you've moved back East," he pleads.
Not realizing what I'd said until he brought it up, I laugh.  "No, no. I still live in Helena. I'm just…..not there right now."
"Oh. Good." Beau replies and I can hear the relief in his voice. "Where are you?"
I sigh, then smile. "Uh, about that. I'm actually in Texas. Austin, in fact."

"Mom," Savannah's voice trembled over the trans-Atlantic phone call.
Bianca woke up a bit late today after yesterday's neighborhood ranch party. She was still in daze when she picked up the call. "Savannah? Early in the morning? All well?" She was used to getting afternoon calls from her daughter who stayed on the island of Corsica. The place was clockwise 7 hours ahead of her home in Texas. They had set up a routine where Savannah would call after she called it a day in Corsica while Bianca would have just finished her lunch. This early morning call meant Savannah was calling in the middle of her day, leaving Bianca worried.
"Mom, he is … He is here."
"He? Who are you…Oh!" Suddenly it dawned on Bianca whom her daughter is talking about and why her voice is so unstable.
"Is he there on an official tour or…"
"He came to meet me, meet us."
"Does he know?"
"He knows everything." Savannah sighed.
"Oh dear! Is he going to… I mean what is he planning?"
"He came to clear the misunderstandings, Mom."
"Savvie, we knew this would happen one day. Thankfully, he is not here to do any harm."
"But mom, what if…"
"You need to give him a chance, my child. You know he is not any regular guy."
"It's not about him. It's about me, what If I'm not…"
"Savannah Jane Walker, never ever think less about you. Don't be so harsh on yourself. I know it's a tough decision but I believe in you and I trust that you will take a wise step."
Savannah whispered over a sob, "Thank you mom."
Bianca picked up her deflated tone, "Hey girl, don't cry. Don't be afraid. You are not alone.
Whatever you decide, I will be with you."
"I know mom. You have always been. I have to go now. Will call you later."
"Bye sweetheart. God bless you."
Savannah gave an assertive reply and ended the call.
Her hand was still clutching the phone while Bianca's eyes were fixed far away in the distance… Memories of yesteryears replaying in front of her eyes.
****************
Few years ago…..
It was a busy day at the ranch. Bianca was tending to a filly in the stables when John came in search of her. "There you are! You gotcha mail." He waved a white envelope in the air.
"Mail?" Blanca wondered. She had all her bills cleared. There should not be any new notice from any of the banks now. She rubbed away the dirt on her hands on the sides of her apron and extended her arm to grab the envelope with a feeling of dread.
"Thank you John." She flipped the cover to find out from whom it was, but the sender information was blank.
John still stood there, curiously eyeing the mail. She tore the envelope trying to curb her own anxiety. When she saw Savannah's neat handwriting, she let out a sigh of relief. "It's from Savannah." She waved of her hand, making it light to John.
He too smiled and took her leave. She stood there with a smile plastered on her face. As soon as he went out of sight, Bianca rushed into her home. She was restless and this letter might give her some clue. Savannah had been out of reach for the past few days. Her phone wasn't working. Bastein had no clue where she was and it had left Bianca biting her nails.
She sat on her bed and withdrew her reading glasses from the rustic bedside drawer.
" Dear Mom,
I know you must be worried about my whereabouts. Please be assured that I am absolutely fine and safe and I will call you soon.
Mom, you were right in guessing the reason for my happiness in the last few months. Well, you have always been right.  I did finally feel complete with the man of my dreams. I thought maybe one day I will be able to tell you everything.
Even after Drake left Cordonia, I never felt alone.  There was this man… I have always liked him. Two months ago, a small accident brought us closer and then one day I couldn't stop myself and we broke all the barriers to be together. I was happy and that's when you too picked the signs . You were right mom.
But I guess Walker's are never meant to live an easy life. I don't know how to say this. It's a bit awkward to tell you all of this through a letter. I conceived, Mom. I wanted to tell him first, but things took a nasty turn here and I couldn't let him know. Moreover, he is kind of from a noble family so he cannot take the responsibility. My presence here will be a deterrent to his duties and so to make things easier for everyone, I decided to leave Cordonia forever. Maybe there’s another universe where we have the happy ending we always wanted.
I am sorry if I let you down but I still want to say this to you that you are the best and I am missing you even more at this turning point of my life. I am in a bit of Hurry now but I promise I will call you as soon as I reach my destination.
I love you, Mom.
Your daughter,
Savvie.

Bianca removed her glasses to wipe the tears in her eyes. "My little girl!" She held the letter to her heart. " I am so sorry you have to go through all these things alone."
As she cried, her eyes rested on the bedside photo frame of them together. She picked it up and looked at Savannah and said. "My baby, I knew it from the beginning. I wish I had warned you to keep your feelings for him locked inside. It's impossible to not fall in love with him, my child but he is a royal. There is no future there, at least not under Constantine's watch."
She closed her eyes praying, "Dear God, please help my children. Help Savannah and Liam to find their path together."
Liam always held a special place in Bianca's heart. As a young boy, he had shown compassion and love to one and all, be it noble or commoner. He never differentiated, even when he grew up to be a crown prince. He was the reason for Drake's stability after Jackson's death. He always stole her heart when he covered up for Savannah with his innocent smile. Many such moments made her believe Liam to be an extended part of her family. She knew Savvie and Liam would be together one day but she never thought their relationship would be so short lived.
She tried to get over her wavering mind and continued praying, " God, please give me the strength to support my daughter through her difficult times till she gets back to him."
And so the years passed on while Bianca remained hopeful for that day to arise when her prayers would be answered.
********************
Present day....
Bianca smiled wistfully. She kept the phone back on the table and reclined in her bed. "Thank you my lord, It's finally over. My children are going to unite again."
She got up and opened the side drawers to retrieve a photo frame. She placed Liam's photo next to Savannah'sphoto that was already there and gave them a flying kiss. "God bless you both."
Bianca stood as a pillar in Savannah's life in the years she lived estranged. It was all worth it in the end.

-------
Sam and Dean never really had a home. They had places that somewhat felt like home, in their own way (none more so than the impala), but never really a definitive home. Bobby’s house, the Bunker, a few abandoned cabins they got from Bobby and John; all were special but none were completely home.
The Walker Ranch had somehow made its way onto that list of places that were special, despite their rocky start with it. Maybe it was because their family lived there. Either way, whenever they didn’t have a case, Sam and Dean would sometimes find themselves heading to the ranch instead of the bunker. “Just to check in,” Dean would say as he steered them toward Austin. “It’s been a while since we saw everyone,” Sam would agree. Neither of them would admit that it felt more like home than almost anywhere else (never more than the impala).
And neither of them would admit that one of the things that made it feel like home was Abeleine “Call me Abby” Walker.
—---
Sickness was part of living on the road. They didn’t always land in the most hygienic of places and their diet left a lot to be desired, so their immune systems didn’t have the best support. It definitely didn’t help that they regularly went into damp and wooded areas or that they had to deal with random elements of nature like rain and pollen. But they still had work to do, whether they had the sniffles or not, so they just soldiered onward until one of them couldn’t get out of bed. It wasn’t the healthiest way of doing things but that wasn’t exactly high on their priorities list.
Unfortunately, that sometimes led to them being laid up for a couple weeks because they pushed themselves too hard. And living in close quarters meant they both got hit at around the same time. The only thing worse than a sick Winchester was two sick Winchesters.
Which is why, when Sam woke up and felt feverish and Dean was sneezing up a storm, they both started packing up to go to the bunker. They could handle themselves in isolation for a while.
They should’ve known better.
“Sam, are you okay?” Abby asked over breakfast. “You look a little warm….”
Sam smiled and tried to play it off. “Well, it is summer. We’re Kansas boys; not really made for the Texas heat….”
She didn’t look like she believed him but she let it drop. Until Dean started sneezing. “Let me guess, allergies?” she asked, one brow raised.
Dean smiled and shrugged. “You know how it is.”
“Sure.”
“Abby, they’re grown men,” Bonham said as he started clearing away the leftover dishes. “If they say they're fine, I’m sure they are.”
“Says the man who hid his cancer diagnosis behind pain pills for a year,” Abby muttered.
Without warning, she had the back of her hand on Sam’s forehead. “As I thought; you have a fever.” She did the same to Dean before he could react. “You too, but not as high….” She sighed. “Back to bed; both of you.”
“Abby, we were-”
“Just about to go home, I know. But not like that. You’re sick. That means resting, not driving for hours on end and crashing in a motel room that’ll probably make you sicker. Bed. Now.”
“But-”
“Boy, do not argue with me. Bed. Now.”
Sam and Dean looked to Bonham for help, who just shook his head. “You should know better than to argue with her by now.”
Unfortunately, they did. So, under Abby’s watchful eyes, they found themselves back in their room in the bunkhouse.
“What kind of medicine do you usually use for fevers? What about congestion? Any preference for snacks or drinks? I always have something on hand but I want you to be comfortable,” she said while she got them settled in (and boy was it a trip for two grown men to be tucked in).
“Nothin’ fancy for meds,” Dean said. “Just whatever we can get over the counter. And water is fine.”
“Seriously, Abby, you don’t need to do all this,” Sam said, coughing a little. “We can take care of ourselves.”
“I’m sure you can; just not under my roof. Now, I’ll bring some tylenol, water, and crackers to get started. If you can keep that down, we’ll upgrade you to soup, okay?” She left the room before either of them could respond.
“She’s something, isn’t she?” Dean muttered, closing his eyes.
“Sure is,” Sam agreed.
Neither of them said what that “something” was, but they both knew it was true.
—--------
Maybe it was their old age or maybe they were just sicker than they thought, but the Winchester brothers couldn’t help but think that maybe Abby was right in keeping them at the ranch while they were sick. By day 2, Dean could barely get out of bed and Sam had a sick bucket ready to go by his bed. Abby had offered to call a doctor for them but they were still a little too stubborn for that. It would all pass in a week, surely.
In the meantime, Abby mother-henned over them with a seemingly endless supply of water, Gatorade, tissues, and light snacks. She also brought a TV into their room and let Dean have control of the remote.
“You know, you’re supposed to be relaxing,” she commented when she saw he had it on the Horror Movie Network.
Dean groaned. “Come on, it’s an All Saint’s Day marathon! That’s the most relaxing thing in the world.”
“Maybe for you,” Sam muttered, half leaning off the bed and over his sick bucket.
Abby chuckled. “Maybe you can change it over to something soft like Scooby Doo after lunch.” She replenished the tissues next to Dean’s bed and kissed his forehead. “Hmm, still running a fever. I’ll bring you something for that.”
She moved over to Sam’s bed before Dean had a chance to comment on the kiss.
“Do you want something for the nausea, dear?” Abby said, inspecting his sick bucket. “You’ve hardly kept anything down.”
Sam nodded mutely, letting her rearrange him on the bed.
“Alright. I’ll bring it to you with some bread and we’ll see how you keep that down.” She kissed his forehead. “Hmm, fever went down. Maybe all that vomit is getting this out of your system. Just hang tight, dear.” She changed out the bag in his bucket before leaving the room.
When Dean looked over at Sam, his brother had a soft look on his face that Dean couldn’t quite place. He imagined he had the same look on his face.
—---
In the end, it took just under two weeks for whatever this was to pass through the Winchester brothers. Abby tried to convince them to stay longer but they didn’t want to impose any more than they already had. And Sam had already found them a case in Topeka. “Those vamps won’t decapitate themselves.”
“Well, keep me updated,” Abby said. “You know I worry about you two. Oh, and take some leftovers. I know you don’t eat enough.”
They knew better than to argue.

Who Shot Walker Daugherty?
A 2017 shoot-out in west Texas was publicized first as a tale of border violence: the family thought they had been attacked by undocumented migrants. Then, when cops revealed that they hadn't seen evidence of anyone else on the scene, the story started to look like an elaborate hoax: for years, it appeared the folks involved had shot each other. It was a hunting trip and there were two families involved: one group was sleeping inside the ranch house, and another was sleeping in an RV outside.
One night the folks in the RV woke up to someone rattling the door and trying to get in. They started screaming and the other group, including Walker Daugherty, ran outside with firearms to see what was going on. One of the folks in the RV, Edwin, was shot by Daugherty, who couldn't see inside and thought Edwin and his wife had been taken hostage. Then Daugherty headed back to the ranch house to get more ammo while the RV was driving around like crazy, and as he was about to get inside, he got shot in the lung from his right. There were a number of people on the scene: Daugherty's wife and sister, and his brother-in-law, as well as the two people in the RV. At first his brother-in-law was blamed for shooting him. But recently a ballistics expert showed that the bullet in Daugherty likely did not come from the firearm that his brother-in-law held, or any of the people who might have viably shot him. There is a theory that the chaos started as a prank: that Walker had been pretending to be an intruder to scare Edwin and his wife. But Walker had warned Edwin earlier in the week to sleep with a firearm by his bed, so why would he have tried to prank him?

Walker episode 2 review
Cordell, Trey, and Cassie find themselves watching over the episode’s titular character, Maybelline Pratt, a state witness in a money laundering case.  Maybeline has the charm of all 4 Golden Girls characters as well as their combined age.  Like Sophie Petrillo, she gave Trey the slip and tried to hotwire a patrol car with a wrench, because that’s how they do in Sicily.  Like Blanche Devereaux, she loves flirting with Trey even as they take turns running away from each other.  Like Dorothy Zbonak, she is full of judgment stares and sass and keeps calling Cordell by the wrong surname.   Rangers over the age of 50 are smitten with her because every red-blooded male that grew up in the 70s and 80s fell in love with Karen Allen and Kathleen Turner and their smokey voices.  Harrison Ford to this day can’t stand Indiana Jones fanboys approaching him to only want to talk about Marion Ravenwood and “that voice”.
Maybelline has the Rose Nylund naivety thinking she can just go back to St. Olaf and carried a metal file in her oversized purse to escape from WITSEC. Cordell decided one of them need to take her home.  Trey and Cassie were “not it” and Cordell reluctantly take her to Walker ranch while the 2 security officers assigned to her secure the area.  Maybelline soften her attitude towards Cordell when she sees family pictures and learn of Emily’s passing.  Later in the middle of the night, Cordell finds Maybelline having “just to taste” bourbon at the dinner table and the two have a heart to heart over Cordell’s worry over his children leaving the nest.
“The days are long, but the years are short”, Maybelline tells Cordell, and while children appear not to listen, they are always watching.  The fact that Stella and August feel comfortable enough to leave home just means he (and Emily) did a good job raising them, and they’ll likely come back one day.  Just like Cordell and Liam did.
Cordell found it easier to talk to a stranger about his anxiousness over being ill prepared for "the quiet" once his kids are gone.  Stella too, found it easier to talk to Ben about her guilt over Witt’s death and had even shut Liam out.  In attempt to make peace with her conflicting conscious, she visits a roadside memorial where Witt succumbed to his gun shot injury.  Unexpectantly Witt’s uncle, Mike, shows up and seems kind, which made Stella feel worse and she flees.  Then Mike ominously calls someone to say he found something “interesting”.   Looks like there will be a second mystery to go with the unsolved Jackal case as we never learn why Witt broke into Geri’s house.  Speaking of which…
Cassie had updated Geri (and us) that she decided to return to the Texas Rangers.  Later Geri offers Cassie to move into her house, referencing the break in that it would be a good idea to have a ranger around.  While Cassie is thrilled and accepted Geri’s offer, you know that Cordell would be worried about their girl talks.  At least I would be.
Cordell, Trey, and Cassie brings Maybelline to court to give her testimony only to walk right into a trap to distract them so that the baddies can kidnap Maybelline. Cue lively soundtrack as a car chase through the parking garage to rescue Maybelline ends in beat down fights by Cordell and Trey. Maybelline bats her Blanche Devereaux lashes at Trey for saving her.  Cordell insists it was a team effort.
At home, Cordell waits for August to discuss the issue of him wanting to join an after school boot camp to ready himself for the military, but he needs a signed permission slip from his father.  Earlier August asked Bonham to go over Cordell’s head and convince Trey, who is running the program, to let him join.  In the season 3 finale, Cordell wouldn’t give his permission to let August join the military while he is underage.   When Bonham tries to broach the subject with Cordell, he immediately shuts it down because he wants to put off of August growing up as long as he can.   But after his midnight conversation with Maybelline, Cordell is ready to have a talk with August.
Cordell explains that while he has no regret over his own tour in the military, he can’t help wondering if he missed out on other options and he doesn’t want that for August.  But, if this is really what August wants, he'll be supportive, no matter how much he'll worry over his “only son” and “baby boy”.  August is thrilled and promised to follow Cordell’s condition that he is present for every Sunday dinner and keep up his schoolwork.  A flashback scene from the pilot episode shows Cordell telling a 14-year-old August he didn't mean for his son to grow up quickly after his mother's death, adding to Cordell’s bittersweet demeanor.
We have "the quiet" before the storm with Cordell, Liam, Ben, and Stella having fun together playing darts at the Side Step. Stella returns to her dorm to find a threatening message on the window written in red paint.
Speculation #2: Witt didn't die from his gunshot wound and was murdered on the roadside by the same person who left the threatening message to Stella.
Score: 9 out of 10. What started out a light-hearted episode ends with a horror movie jump scare, a kind of metaphor for parental struggle and angst.

Cordi x Micki - Unexpected Reunion
| ・゜゜・. we all love a little POV of characters returning, so here is my little blissful moment of writing one of my favorite duos on the show Walker. Not my best written work, just some dribble Drabble
Tumblr media
| pairings; cordi x micki
-ˋˏ✄┈┈┈┈
It was a normal Wednesday for the Texas ranger. Waking up and starting his daily routine.
Shower, dressed, bed made, and children fed.
“I’ll be working late tonight but call me if either of you need me.” kissing the top of Auggie and Stella’s head. Slipping on his hat and hopping into the truck as he drove out of the driveway. Upon arriving at the station, he didn’t think anything out of the ordinary. Walking inside the doors he made it over to his desk.
Few hours of rolling, it was now nightfall.
“Hey, a couple of us guys are going out to grab a drink, you want to tag along Walker?”
“Uh-no, I got a ton of paperwork to do, you guys go ahead. I’ll catch up later,” he said, never looking up from the screen.
“Right, don’t stay glued to that screen all night Walker, you deserve a break too.”
Cordell didn’t respond, only focusing on the computer screen. He was now alone in the station, it was quiet. He could hear the door opening and then closing as he let out a brief sigh. “Guys, seriously I’m fine.” He said again looking up only to his surprise it wasn’t the guys but Micki.
Standing to his feet quickly but in what felt like slow motion, Micki had a small smile on her lips as she waved. “Walker, you look like you’ve seen a ghost.” She teased, Cordell finally catching the breath he was holding as he walked around the desk. He wasn’t sure if he was seeing things or if she was there. Almost hesitate to even hug her.
“M-Micki...” he mumbled out before finally lunging forward to wrap his arms around her. Closing his eyes he couldn’t shake the feeling this wasn’t real; she wasn’t back.
“Walker, don’t tell me you got all soft on me after all this time.” She pulled away, gripping his shoulders as she poked at him.
“What are you doing here? I mean great you’re here but.”
“No, I know what you mean, I have honestly been asking myself that same question.” Looking down as she sniffled a bit, it was hard for her to be here after leaving years prior. “ I meant to call to check in, but Walker. Cordell, I’m engaged, and I had a baby, things happened that I’d never think would.”
“No, no listen to me, I’m happy for you, proud of you, okay? It’s not your fault, I could’ve reached out to you too, just been crazy around here, with the kids, and losing the ranch, it’s a lot to process but I’m glad you are here. Remember you are family Mik, always will be.” he pressed his own hands against both sides of her shoulders, squeezing them in reassurance.
She would smile fighting back the tears that threatened to surface. Sniffling again, she opted to smile nervously instead. Nodding her head.
“Mik, I’m stoked you are here, but why are you here?”
“Cordi, I’m here because I need my best man woman, to walk me down the aisle, I need you.”
His eyes were wide for a moment, scratching the scruff on his face. “I- I mean are you sure? I uh- never turn down a good wedding.”
Punching his arm, she nodded. “Wouldn’t want it any other way, Beau.”
“Then count me in Flor.”

+Favorite AU (divergence from canon event) fic
See No Evil by sakuranomi808
An Alternate Universe story where Cordell doesn't leave for his undercover case with the Rodeo Kings after Emily's death and Liam becomes the District Attorney. Some things stay the same and some things very drastically change.
What can I say? This fic is beautifully written. It's a fascinating exploration into morality vs legality. It's the perfect mix of unsettling and tense and had me on the edge of my seat at times!
+Favorite WIP (a fic not yet finished)

A strange coincidence leads to a mix up that our heroes may never recover from.... Assuming anyone realizes the mistake. Or: in which Cordell dies and Sam gets mistaken as a Texas Ranger.
An intriguing SPN/Walker fic. I would absolutely love to see where this goes. It sets up so much potential for a good emotional hurt/comfort fic!
+Favorite Episode Tag/Missing Scene Fic
To Lead Me Home by sakuranomi808

A sweet moment between the brothers shows how much their relationship has evolved since the beginning of the show.

Things go very wrong at the medal ceremony for Cassie and August. 3x14 AU.
This is just *chefs kiss* This fic reminds us all why we hate Kevin Golden and why Cassie rules. As if it couldn't get any better, it also has such cute moments between Cassie and August!
+Favorite Ship Fic
Pounding Headache by Catxx
Trey keeps the fact that he gets migraines from Walker, which is fine until one hits.
Our Neck of the Woods by Descended_from_Hufflepuffs (@walker-extended-universe)

For those who like cozy, fluffy slash fic, these two are perfect for you!
+Fic You Can't Stop Thinking About
oh the past has no teeth, reaching for something it holds dear by @theladywyn
“I know I taught you better than that, Liam.” Cordell?! It’s been over twenty years since Liam last heard his big brother’s voice and he thinks this is it; he’s really and truly lost all his marbles.
Such an emotional fic! Had a few things gone differently in the show, I feel like this is something that could have happened.
+Funniest Fic
Tree Trouble by @theladywyn
AU. Firefighter!Cordell gets a call from Liam to rescue a cat stuck in a tree. This turns out to be a slight misunderstanding.
I knew right away that this was the funniest fic I've read this year. I absolutely adore the banter between the characters!

Part 3: Radical
8 years later…
Four-story Brick House
Austin, Texas.
I nudge Jared trying to wake him up.
"Darlin' wake up, I need to take a shower," I said.
Jared just mumbles and pulls me closer. I have no choice but to elbow him in the stomach. That does the trick, and he releases me.
I rushed from our king-size bed to the bathroom. I barely made it.
It's getting harder to walk these days. Our ever-growing family has something to do with that. Little kicks interrupt my thoughts.
Jared and I are expecting twins again, this time, boys. Twins don't run on either side of our family so it's a mystery. How do we keep conceiving twins?
I quickly take a shower and can't be late again. I've got to drop our girls off. Natalia and Nina just started third grade.
Where did the time go?
It feels like I was just yesterday when I proposed to Jared.
We didn't have some lavish ceremony, just an intimate one on our Texas Ranch.
It was just perfect for us.
"Y/N, the girls are going to wake up soon. I've got to shower to darlin’”
After drying my hair. I throw on my robe and then dash out of the bathroom. swiftly throwing the towel then grabbing the first things I find in my side of the dresser and closet. Not bothering to brush my hair. It is the last thing on my to-do list right now.
I make my way downstairs to find the girls already dressed. They are just waiting for me to make breakfast.
"Okay little wildflowers just hang on, I'll go get our breakfast ready."
I said.
"We can wait Mom no rush." Natalia and Nina said in unison.
With, the way the girls are. I have no doubt they'll be presenting as alphas when it's time. Already so headstrong and always speaking their mind.
They overheard parents bad-mouthing us. They told them off when that didn't work. They grabbed the teacher right away.
I place the French toast and sausage in front of them.
They methodically get to eating their breakfast. That's when my husband finally joined us. Looking amazing as always. Jared is wearing my favourite purple shirt and a pair of black jeans. The shirt he wore in episodes that held special meaning for me from Supernatural. I mentioned it in passing once. Then one day out of the blue he wears it on one of our date nights. It warms my heart that he remembers those little details. He kisses me lightly on the cheek before putting the kid's lunches in their backpacks. Then he joins us for breakfast. After the girls almost got an eyeful when they weren't feeling well years ago. While we were in my office. We try to keep public displays of affection down to a minimum.
Our lives have changed so much since we met. Jared started producing and starring in a show called Walker. A story about a widower returning home after stent undercover and adjusting back to his life with his family. My doctor that was there at the hospital when I got injured got into acting. So Dr. Cortese, Genevive or Gen as she prefers plays his late wife Emily.
As for me, I've long since left acting. I'm writing books or scripts. It gives me more time to look after the household.
I love the life we've built something I thought I'd never have.
Meeting each other taught Jared and me. It's not a monster beneath our skin our reversed presentations but a blessing.
