Happy New Year, everyone! I thought it would be fun to do a little retrospective on the game's progress over the last year... Shepherds of Haven has grown so much from the little demo I posted in January 2018, and it continues to steadily build and flourish in so many different and exciting ways! Here's a look at just some of the things we accomplished in 2023!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I added 143,151 words to the game (2.5 main chapters, 8 new character interludes) in 2023: the equivalent of writing the longest Lord of the Rings book in one year! We also broke our huge 1 million word milestone—without including code—meaning Shepherds of Haven is now officially twice as long as War and Peace, and almost as long as the entire 7-book Harry Potter series... and all in a single game!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot goes into game creation behind the scenes, including the coordination and creation of visual assets for the game—like character cards, codex entries, maps, portraits, and backgrounds—fun stuff for the fans (like the MC info template we created), and songs for the official soundtrack. As the game creeps slowly and determinedly towards its initial completion, that also means learning new things as a solo developer to prepare for the future, like learning to build an official website, researching business and tax practices, and beginning to think about how to conduct testing, publishing, and marketing down the road. Much of what I enumerate here hasn't been made public yet and will continue to cook in the background for a while, but I'm very proud of the work I've gotten done this year and will be excited to unveil more in the future!
Tumblr media
And of course, for even more Shepherds of Haven content, I've added and completed even more stories for our little library on Patreon (which also has sizable word count at this point): The Bridge of Bones (a Trouble and Riel murder mystery), O Happy Dagger (a dark adventure featuring Briony, Chase, and Red), and The Hunt (a wild tale involving Tallys, Halek, Shery, and new kinds of spirits, fey magic, and Elves) were all serial stories completed in 2023, while Some Kind of Virus is a cyberpunk zombie apocalypse AU that will continue to be updated with new chapters monthly.
A full list of the Shepherd short stories and serial novellas (with links) can be viewed here!
Tumblr media
I hope you enjoyed this session of Shepherds of Haven Wrapped! Honestly, this doesn't actually cover everything I've been working on, but some things can't be packaged and listed out neatly, or otherwise won't seem very interesting to anyone else but me! 😂 As we inch through Chapter 9 and get more interludes done (only a few more main chapters to go), I'm hopeful that I'll also be able to find time to work on my next novel, but we'll see if the Shepherds schedule ends up ramping up or settling down as we work steadily towards finishing the main story!
One important thing before wrapping up is to acknowledge your guys' role in this wonderful, wild journey. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your invaluable contributions to the development of Shepherds of Haven. Whether you took the time to share links to the game, supported its growth on Discord or Patreon, left encouraging messages or asked interesting questions, reported bugs, or showcased your remarkable works of fanfiction or fanart, I am sincerely thankful for the unwavering support from this amazing community! Your collective efforts have played a pivotal role in shaping the world of the game into what it is today. Words cannot adequately convey my gratitude for your support, and I am truly blessed to have such a passionate community surrounding this project.
As we step into 2024, I am filled with anticipation for the developments awaiting Shepherds of Haven. Big things are on the horizon, and I am so excited to share these experiences with you! Thank you for being an integral part of this journey, and here's to the continued growth of our shared little world. Cheers to 2024—may it be a year filled with creativity, adventure, and joy! 🎊

YouTube Downloads through VLC: Step by Step
So this guide to easily downloading off YouTube is super helpful, but there's enough important information hidden in the reblogs that (with the permission of OP @queriesntheories ) I'm doing a more step-by-step version.
Please note: these downloads will be in YouTube quality. My test video download is coming through at 360p, even though the video I'm starting from is set to 720p. They're legible, but they won't look great on a TV. For high visual quality, you'll want to seek out other methods.
This guide is written for Windows 10, since that's what I can test on. It's been tested on Firefox, Chrome, and Edge (which is a Chromium browser, so the method should work in other Chromium browsers too). So far, I haven't tracked down a way to use this download method on mobile.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
I'll try to make this pretty beginner-friendly, but I am going to assume that you know how to right-click, double-click, navigate right-click menus, click-and-drag, use keyboard shortcuts that are given to you (for example, how to use Ctrl+A), and get the URL for any YouTube video you want to download.
You'll also need to download and install one or more programs off the internet using .exe files, if you don't have these programs already. Please make sure you know how to use your firewall and antivirus to keep your computer safe, and google any names you don't recognize before allowing permission for each file. You can also hover your mouse over each link in this post to make sure it goes where I'm saying it will go.
YOU WILL NEED:
A computer where you have admin permissions. This is usually a computer you own or have the main login on. Sadly, a shared computer like the ones at universities and libraries will not work for this.
Enough space on your computer to install the programs listed below, if you don't have them already, and some space to save your downloaded files to. The files are pretty small because of the low video quality.
A simple text editing program. Notepad is the one that usually comes with Windows. If it lets you change fonts, it's too fancy. A notepad designed specifically to edit program code without messing it up is Notepad++, which you can download here.
A web browser. I use Firefox, which you can get here. Chrome or other Chrome-based browsers should also work. I haven't tested in Safari.
An Internet connection fast enough to load YouTube. A little buffering is fine. The downloads will happen much faster than streaming the entire video, unless your internet is very slow.
VLC Media Player, which you can get here. It's a free player for music and videos, available on Windows, Android, and iOS, and it can play almost any format of video or audio file that exists. We'll be using it for one of the central steps in this process.
If you want just the audio from a YouTube video, you'll need to download the video and then use a different program to copy the audio into its own file. At the end of this post, I'll have instructions for that, using a free sound editor called Audacity.
SETUP TO DOWNLOAD:
The first time you do this, you'll need to set VLC up so it can do what you want. This is where we need Notepad and admin permissions. You shouldn't need to repeat this process unless you're reinstalling VLC.
If VLC is open, close it.
In your computer's file system (File Explorer on Windows), go to C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\playlist
If you're not familiar with File Explorer, you'll start by clicking where the left side shows (C:). Then in the big main window, you'll double-click each folder that you see in the file path, in order - so in this case, when you're in C: you need to look for Program Files. (There will be two of them. You want the one without the x86 at the end.) Then inside Program Files you're looking for VideoLAN, and so forth through the whole path.
Once you're inside the "playlist" folder, you'll see a lot of files ending in .luac - they're in alphabetical order. The one you want to edit is youtube.luac which is probably at the bottom.
You can't edit youtube.luac while it's in this folder. Click and drag it out of the playlist folder to somewhere else you can find it - your desktop, for instance. Your computer will ask for admin permission to move the file. Click the "Continue" button with the blue and yellow shield.
Now that the file is moved, double-click on it. The Microsoft Store will want you to search for a program to open the .luac file type with. Don't go to the Microsoft Store, just click on the blue "More apps" below that option, and you'll get a list that should include your notepad program. Click on it and click OK.
The file that opens up will be absolutely full of gibberish-looking code. That's fine. Use Ctrl+A to select everything inside the file, then Backspace or Delete to delete it. Don't close the file yet.
In your web browser, go to https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/master/share/lua/playlist/youtube.lua
Click in the part of the Github page that has a bunch of mostly blue code in it. Use Ctrl+A to select all of that code, Ctrl+C to copy it, then come back into your empty youtube.luac file and use Ctrl+P to paste the whole chunk of code into the file.
Save the youtube.luac file (Ctrl+S or File > Save in the upper left corner of the notepad program), then close the notepad program.
Drag youtube.luac back into the folder it came from. The computer will ask for admin permission again. Give it permission.
Now you can close Github and Notepad. You're ready to start downloading!
HOW TO DOWNLOAD:
First, get your YouTube link. It should look something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abc123DEF45 If it's longer, you can delete any extra stuff after that first set of letters and numbers, but you don't have to.
Now open VLC. Go to Media > Open Network Stream and paste your YouTube link into the box that comes up. Click Play. Wait until the video starts to play, then you can pause it if you want so it's not distracting you during the next part.
(If nothing happens, you probably forgot to put youtube.luac back. coughs)
In VLC, go to Tools > Codec Information. At the bottom of the pop-up box you'll see a long string of gibberish in a box labeled Location. Click in the Location box. It won't look like it clicked properly, but when you press Ctrl+A, it should select all. Use Ctrl+C to copy it.
In your web browser, paste the entire string of gibberish and hit Enter. Your same YouTube video should come up, but without any of the YouTube interface around it. This is where the video actually lives on YouTube's servers. YouTube really, really doesn't like to show this address to humans, which is why we needed VLC to be like "hi I'm just a little video player" and get it for us.
Because, if you're looking at the place where the video actually lives, you can just right-click-download it, and YouTube can't stop you.
Right-click on your video. Choose "Save Video As". Choose where to save it to - I use my computer's built-in Music or Videos folders.
Give it a name other than "videoplayback" so you can tell it apart from your other downloads.
The "Save As Type" dropdown under the Name field will probably default to MP4. This is a good versatile video format that most video players can read. If you need a different format, you can convert the download later. (That's a whole other post topic.)
Click Save, and your video will start downloading! It may take a few minutes to fully download, depending on your video length and internet speed. Once the download finishes, congratulations! You have successfully downloaded a YouTube video!
If you'd like to convert your video into a (usually smaller) audio file, so you can put it on a music player, it's time to install and set up Audacity.
INSTALLING AUDACITY (first time setup for audio file conversion):
You can get Audacity here. If you're following along on Windows 10, choose the "64-bit installer (recommended)". Run the installer, but don't open Audacity at the end, or if it does open, close it again.
On that same Audacity download page, scroll down past the installers to the "Additional resources". You'll see a box with a "Link to FFmpeg library". This is where you'll get the add-on program that will let Audacity open your downloaded YouTube video, so you can tell it to make an audio-only file. The link will take you to this page on the Audacity support wiki, which will always have the most up-to-date information on how to install the file you need here.
From that wiki page, follow the link to the actual FFmpeg library. If you're not using an adblocker, be careful not to click on any of the ads showing you download buttons. The link you want is bold blue text under "FFmpeg Installer for Audacity 3.2 and later", and looks something like this: "FFmpeg_5.0.0_for_Audacity_on_Windows_x86.exe". Download and install it. Without this, Audacity won't be able to open MP4 files downloaded from YouTube.
CONVERTING TO AUDIO:
Make sure you know where to find your downloaded MP4 video file. This file won't go away when you "convert" it - you'll just be copying the audio into a different file.
Open up Audacity.
Go to File > Open and choose your video file.
You'll get one of those soundwave file displays you see in recording booths and so forth. Audacity is a good solid choice if you want to teach yourself to edit soundwave files, but that's not what we're here for right now.
Go to File > Export Audio. The File Name will populate to match the video's filename, but you can edit it if you want.
Click the Browse button next to the Folder box, and choose where to save your new audio file to. I use my computer's Music folder.
You can click on the Format dropdown and choose an audio file type. If you're not sure which one you want, MP3 is the most common and versatile.
If you'd like your music player to know the artist, album, and so forth for your audio track, you can edit that later in File Manager, or you can put the information in with the Edit Metadata button here. You can leave any of the slots blank, for instance if you don't have a track number because it's a YouTube video.
Once everything is set up, click Export, and your new audio file will be created. Go forth and listen!

Heyy could I request a yandere vampire royalty Jungwon scenario where his s/o is a literal angel, like the one who lives in heaven, and is really easily manipulated? Thank you so much.
vampire, yandere!jungwon — beautiful angel
content: vampire, yandere!jungwon x angel, gn!reader, toxic behaviour (obvi)
word count: 725
a/n: as usual, this is only my opinion/vision of them as yanderes, nothing else!
Tumblr media
you didn’t know how you ended up in the vampire kingdom. one moment you were out testing your new wings and the second you woke up in a dark room that made your chest tighten. there was a faint smell of iron in the air and drops of rain were hitting the window gently. you couldn’t take in much of the interior before the door opened, revealing a young man dressed in all black.
he made his way to the edge of the bed and brushed some strands of hair out of your face. you tried to turn your head away from him but with no success as he was quick to grab your chin, “don’t.” he admired your face with loving eyes, there was not a hint of evil intentions hidden beneath them. your chin began to wobble at the thought of never seeing your family again, you didn’t want to stay here, you didn’t want to die… he let go of your chin and brushed away the silent tears on your cheeks with his thumb instead, “shh, i won’t harm you.” his voice was gentle, nothing like how his visuals prejudiced. “i want to go home.” you uttered shakily. no matter how much you tried to move you couldn’t get anywhere, it was as if there were invisible chains wired around your limbs. the man’s eyes turned from caring to guilty, disappointing even. he shook his head slowly, “you were banished from heaven… don’t you remember?” your heart sped up by hundreds and your vision immediately blurred, “oh, sweetheart.” you couldn’t breathe properly, what was he saying? he put his hand on your chest to relieve the tightness with his powers, “i won’t get into it, don’t worry, you’re with me now.”
you soon learned that his name was jungwon and that he was a very respected man in the kingdom. he did everything to make you comfortable, but he also had his bad moments where he would punish you for thinking about your past, telling you that “you should only live in the present. with me.” which was easier said than done. there was also the issue that you were the only one wearing all white, not even mentioning the fluffy wings on your back. somehow everyone knew that you belonged to jungwon and therefore didn’t dare talk to you, and some of them didn’t dare to look your way. due to this, you were usually sad which frustrated jungwon enormously.
it was almost midnight when you heard a knock coming from the door. you were laying on your bed, reading a book you’d borrowed from the royal library, immediately sitting up straight when jungwon came in. “hello.” your soft voice always caused his dead heart to skip a beat, “my beautiful angel, you should be sleeping.” his hand went up to caress your cheek as he hovered above you. “i’m not tired yet… and, i-“ your eyes traveled around the room, too shy to look at him in the eyes, “i missed you.” as everyone else ignored you, the only one you had left was jungwon. you became reliant on him in a way. he was the one providing food, water, love… your confession made him drop his hand from your face, causing you to furrow your brows with worry, “i’m sorry, i-“ he was quick to kiss your forehead, “no, don’t. i missed you too.” a slight blush covered your cheeks and your lips turned upwards into a small smile. “now, will you tell me what you’re reading, hm? enlighten me, please.”
you told him about the story, cuddling up against his chest as he combed his fingers through your hair. “oh, really? the princess found a potential lover, you say?” you giggled, feeling a little embarrassed, “yes, but i don’t know what happens next.” you looked up at him in search of a response, “i think she’ll marry him and that they’ll live happily ever after, don’t you?” his eyes met yours before you buried your face into his chest, “you’re too cute.”
the love you felt from jungwon was more than enough to make you stay. as every day passed, you forgot more and more about your past and were instead engulfed in the feeling of looking forward to a future with him. and he loved every second.

hey, first off all just wanna say your blog is so cool i love seeing you on my dash!
i was just wondering if you had any tips for first year students and how to manage time? i think that’s the aspect i have been struggling with the most is time management and getting enough sleep rn.
omg tysm!!! 💜💜💜 so glad you like my posts!! and hope your enjoying your 1st year so far <3
So, how to manage your time:
tbh I haven't understood it that well myself. Personally im a little time blind, so i coordinate my schedule based on tasks i have to do, instead of time.
So instead of: study physics for an hour, it could be something like: understand The Schrödinger equation or study 40 pages.
My only time blocks are: morning, afternoon (before snack time, before dinner) and before going to bed. Which i particularly like since it's more flexible, and if i didn't manage to accomplish everything, i can just move it a bit, instead of ruining the whole thing.
My planner usually looks like this: (it's a bit light, since i had classes all day both monday and today, but you get the idea)
Tumblr media
But if you like to study in time blocks, my tip is to give them space to be flexible. So if you delay smth it doesn't ruin your entire schedule, and you won't be so stressed about the time as well.
For example, you think you'll take 1h to do this assignment? Save 1h30 for it, if you end up actually needing this extra time, then you're still in time. If you only needed 1h, you can take a break and move to your next task earlier than planned.
Alarms are a student's best friend for time tracking. And a bonus advantage is that it also forces me not to be on my phone, since i set the alarm in there, and it's a visual reminder that i should be working.
Another important thing to do is to ✨ prioritize✨ your tasks!! Your final exam is way more important than a report that's only 10% your grade. Sure, if you can do both it's perfect, but don't waste too much time perfecting smth that's not that important.
Oh, and if you feel like the way your professor explains isn't doing it for you, just forget about that class! It's a waste of time to be 2 hours in a classroom, not even understanding what the professor is saying and stressing about it. Just find some good notes, and study them in the library during that time instead.
Also, for the not enough sleep problem. I feel you. That was me in the second semester of 1st year. I would lose track of time, sometimes just procrastinating, and forget to sleep. My solution for that is ✨alarms✨. I usually wake up at 7:30, so everyday i have an alarm set for 23:00 to remind myself to go to sleep, and another for 24:00, just in case i ignored the first one lol. Really improved my sleep schedules.
(And a little extra (tho i intend to do a bigger post about this soon)
1st year tips in general: Find ways to be interested in your classes, so it's easier to study. Watch documentaries about it, discuss stuff with ppl that love that subject. Even if you are learning how to solve integrals so you can help your crush - totally not talking from experience. If it get's you motivated, then that's all that matters. DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS!!! I promise your professors aren't judging you, and if your classmates are, well, they won't be judging anymore when you ace that test. And force yourself to take breaks. I would put on my t.do list to watch an episode of a series daily, bc i would be so stressed i would forget to do that. And taking breaks it's super important.)
(sorry for the huge post, I really hope at least one tip in here will be useful for you. Thank you for the ask, and best of luck for this uni year!!! Feel free to ask anymore questions💜)

⚪Johnathon Ohnn Rivals to Friends HCs⚫
Had a fic plot with this in mind, but since I change my ideas like- 10 times a day I decided to just turn these into headcanons instead. In this, the reader is also a scientist, but has an artistic side to them as well, hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Fateful Meeting:
In his high school and college days, Johnathon was an avid participant at science fairs, he'd work extremely hard, day and night, just to bring his inventions to life and showcase them.
He might've been a pretty awkward teen/young adult, but if there was one thing he was confident in, it was his projects, which were made with great care and meticulousness, although he never really focused on their visual appeal, firmly convinced that such things had little importance. The only important thing was getting the devices to work flawlessly.
This belief of his would however be put to test the first time he lost a competition to you. Johnathon's project was great, no doubt, it worked exactly as it should have, and surprised everyone who'd come to observe it... but yours was flashier, had a more eye-catching design and was overall more creative, and by the end of the fair, it had won first place, with Johnathon's coming in close second.
Losing to you lit a fire under him, and that fire grew larger when he discovered you were both following the same courses at college! He wasn't going to lose to you anymore, science was all he held dear, he wasn't going to be bested by anyone.
Rivalry:
From that day onward, Johnathon declared himself as your rival. You didn't take him seriously at first, but soon found it impossible to ignore that. He'd do ANYTHING to 1-up you and take a higher grade than yours.
Obviously, you weren't going to let him win effortlessly. You weren't that competitive of a person, but his determination to do better was admittedly contagious, and soon you recognized him as your rival as well and began putting more and more effort in your studies and inventions, not really to show you were better than him, but because you were curious how far he'd take this rivalry.
You two seemed to be at basically the same exact level, with 'victories' alternating between you and him and sometimes even ending in ties. The professors eventually began to notice how you two were basically motivating each other, but never put a stop to it.
What Johnathon did not expect, was eventually finding himself growing closer to you through that. He still didn't fully understand your vision or why you valued aesthetics, at least way more than he did, but he admired your intellect and capabilities. He'd thought of asking you to collaborate on a project once or twice, but his pride would always get in the way of that.
Friendship:
You were the one who first grew tired of just being rivals; it WAS fun, but you also wished to know more about Johnathon other than how good of a student he was. So one day you casually approached him during lunch break and tried talking to him.
Needless to say, Johnathon felt extremely awkward all throughout your first talk: he didn't really know what to say, but he seemed to be happy to be talking with another talented student, and once he found out you two had a couple interests in common aside from science, he got a bit more talkative.
Your occasional talks did not stop there, quite the contrary, they became more frequent. You always met up during lunch or in the library to study together. The rivalry slowly taking a backseat as you found yourselves collaborating to get the best results possible together.
Johnathon felt like he could rely on you for anything, even outside of college matters. He tended to overthink things a lot, but you always seemed to know how to fix his troubles. ... Even years after you two graduated and now that Johnathon's body has been horribly mutated... he still wonders if you'd be able, or even willing to help him fix his problems like you always did in the past.

Nesta Archeron in the Summer Court!
Disclaimer: in my head Summer is more Brazil than the Mediterranean. Visuals: X , X
She comes to Summer seeking the sun.
Tarquin's been hard at work with integration policies but certain areas still have a zoned feeling to them.
Nesta finds somewhere close to a human neighbourhood. Some days she lies on the floor with her window open - keen ears picking up on the familiar dialects of her human life.
Some nights it's hard to look at the ocean, reminds her too much of the Cauldron but it sings so different, so soft and apologetic that something in Nesta eases.
Because of the contrast of the ocean and constant exposure to pools and water gardens, it slowly becomes easier to bath too
She slowly adjusts to the fashion too, less grating on her internalised modesty when the weather demands it.
She tans, it's barely a shade or two, but it catches her off guard to look in the mirror and not see the porcelain doll the Cauldron Made. It makes her smile, a little victory.
She listens to bossanova.
Loves the restaurants turned half dance floor by the setting sun. She loves the icy drinks and the fruity salads.
After they're sure she isn't there to cause more trouble, the royals ease up their surveillance and leave her be.
She sees them out and about sometimes but doesn't go beyond greeting or making small talk.
The humans adjust to faerie festivals and take to sitting outside, on their roofs and patios, to watch the carnival and water dancing.
She's surprised one day by an invitation to celebrate the Summer Solstice with the HL and his delegates.
There's a small panic in her and she doesn't reply until she's out on a walk and bumps into Tarquin himself and ends up agreeing to at least join for the banquet before the night takes off in full
She isn't forced to interact beyond small talk and besides Tarquin himself, no one tries to be overly familiar.
It's not terrible and she ends up watching the carnival from the palace balcony when most leave to join the crowding streets
One day the sea calls more sweetly than usual and Nesta even manages to make it out to rocks to find a group of mermaids waiting. At first they don't say much, just offer her gifts from the ocean
Guilty, she says she has nothing to give back but the mermaids settle that she should tell them a story. The first few times she retells familiar fables and recent reads but one day ends up simply bringing a book along
The women of the sea don't blush or giggle but they seem entranced by certain aspects so Nesta curates her collection to include what they like
News of this reaches Tarquin and Cressida when they go Under to meet with their watery counterparts.
Cressida later recounts this to the head of the royal library who then offers book suggestions to Nesta
One night Tarquin quietly joins the crowd, fresh from the sea.
It doesn't take long, not with how nice Tarquin is, for them to become friends despite the small self hating part of Nesta that insists she doesn't deserve it.
Her visits to the palace happen almost monthly now and it isn't long before Cressida sends her tailor Nesta's way
Nesta isn't sure she can fully embrace Summer Court fashion - the Fae a little too free for her taste but she comes to like the loose, open and colourful dresses she and the tailor decide on
Cressida teaches Nesta how to Samba. Then they slow dance and kiss.
She receives a patterned silk scarf as a gift from Tarquin and weaves in into her crown braid for her next visit.
The visit is not quite the usual, Tarquin is taking her out of the city and into the jungle. The Fae there are less exposed to humans than those on the coast and he wants her to act as a sort of test to whether they might begin to build refugee settlements inland as well
Nesta becomes a sort of middleman and begins corresponding frequently with the human-fae integration task team before fully joining.
She's grateful but the work begins to open her eyes to how accommodating the Fae are being and she becomes interested in seeing and connecting with the wilder, more faery side of Summer too
The grin Tarquin gives her when she tells him this lets her know she's about to experience a whole new world.
Nesta looks like a jaguar with her tan and freckles and casual grace with underlying power
Nesta getting an actual jaguar as a pet cause it just follows her out of the forest one day
Nesta with an apartment full of tropical plants and she has a parrot!!!
There was no overarching structure to this but that's what I get for rushing into making this. Anyyyywayyyss
Nesta Archeron with a tan and freckles. A gold n red scarf in her hair and a flowing blue dress with tropical flowers on it. Her feet in the sand. Tarquin and Cressida will have her wearing gold jewellery soon enough. Nesta learning the Summer dialect and teaching Fae the Human dialect from south of the Wall.

listening
the last time i listened to this song, i was in a rental car on the way back to umass from seeing The Last Jedi with some friends. real oldheads: do you remember the mustang we all made fun of with lights that projected a little running horse onto the ground? that was the rental car.
this is a perfect feelgood summery song. no notes.

how'd i find this: listening to the s/tar wars rewatch podcast A More Civilized Age reminded me of how i cried in sheer rage at the end of The Las/t Jedi lol

this is one of the coolest textile/data/activism projects ive ever heard of.
Even with natural dyes, for the most part, people don’t think about their water quality. They don’t understand that the invisible things in the water can affect the outcome of the color. You know, it’s just like, “Oh, madder is red, so I’m gonna get a red textile.” But there are so many more steps in dyeing a piece of fabric with a plant dye, or an insect dye. It’s not as easy as just putting some plants in a pot and turning the water heat up.
The goal of using color was to be able to visually demonstrate that not all water is the same. I was hoping to see if I could sort of pull out the pollution, but then what I figured out was that it’s very complex. It’s very possible that I’m demonstrating pollution, but I think I need to gather and do way more tests in order to prove something.

watching
a bunch of stuff, but a lot of surface level critique.
Tumblr media
Symphony for a Massacre (1963, Deray) is a french noir i picked somewhat at random bc it was on my library's streaming service. this is a film about a drug shipment, counterfeit money, and multiple double crosses (but none of them overlap in interesting ways) that takes you by the arm and drags you along, unwavering, toward the end. i want to sound less complimentary than i do there, but i can't be bothered. wanted to like it, it didn't grab me. i had some difficulty telling actors apart, and i don't think anyone's performance stood out except for the wife of a club owner, who flings her jewel box at someone's feet to pay her husband's debt.
Tumblr media
Maverick (1994, dir. Donner) is full of guys i love to see (Molina, Coburn, Garner) but committed the unforgivable sin of reminding me that there were two much better movies i could be watching instead: Silverado (1985, dir. Kasdan) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989, Spielberg). Jodie Foster is extremely fucking hot and more than holds her own. i think my big beef with this film is that i don't care for mel gibson as an actor or a person. also, this film cannot decide if it wants to be a comedy or an action-adventure (even though there are many funny action-adventure films) and as a result does neither genre well. i said "oh come ON" out loud at the final twist.
also rewatched The Batman (2022, dir. Reeves). i don't know why either. i think if it ended on the roof of gotham square garden and we didn't have the following goodbye scene with catwoman AND the following arkham scene, it would have stuck its landing a little better. wish this movie wasn't visually so fuckin dark, bud. throw some contrast in there.

I have jumbled thoughts on WISH looking to fall short of industry projections, its low CinemaScore grade, its low chances at scoring a great multiplier that helps it climb, and Disney's overall bad film year - on their centennial no less.
The success of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, the excellent legs ELEMENTAL scored after such a poor opening weekend, and how well THE LITTLE MERMAID did domestically tells me everything I need to know, I feel.
GUARDIANS VOL. 3 had a solid opening for an MCU sequel, down a bit from what VOL. 2 pulled in back in 2017, but still good. Legs carried it past $350m+ domestically, and it made over $845m worldwide. It's probably my favorite MCU movie in a while, and it resonated for a lot of other people, too. Can't say the same about MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, LOVE AND THUNDER, QUANTUMANIA, and THE MARVELS. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now a mess of rushed movies that are either homework or you have to do homework in order to keep up with them, GUARDIANS VOL. 3 not so much. I extend this to last autumn's BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER as well.
ELEMENTAL, like most of the recent films overseen by current Pixar leader Pete Docter, told a personal story in a fun, appealing, and visually stunning way. Despite existing next to other family films in a crowded June/July, ELEMENTAL grew some serious legs and did really good overseas. I'm confident LUCA and TURNING RED, had they been released theatrically in a world where COVID-19 never happened, would've done pretty darn well. LIGHTYEAR is the anomaly here, the rare Pixar film that audiences just didn't take a liking to. But I can't hold it against Pixar, Docter lets these filmmakers make the movie they see fit, and sometimes in the world of the arts... It's not going to sit well with everybody. Luckily, ELEMENTAL had a real rebound and nearly made 2 1/2x its posted budget.
THE LITTLE MERMAID got by on being almost beat for beat a redo of a beloved animated feature in Disney's library, and it also helps that some of the actors did a pretty solid job. (I haven't seen the film, only bits and pieces at my movie theater job. I'm not into these remakes.) While this movie couldn't cover its costs worldwide, as it had a hard time in certain large markets, it still did pretty great here.
But I think Marvel, Disney Studios (as in the end that does all the live-action and CG tech demo movies), and Walt Disney Animation Studios are in need of some course correction. I get the sense that the latter two arms of Disney's massive film machine aren't really letting filmmakers make the movies they want to make... But rather making the films for them, and someone steps in to do the job. That's also pretty much the case with Marvel, but sometimes they let a director do what they want. Sometimes. James Gunn got more freedom on VOL. 3, and Ryan Coogler got a lot of say on WAKANDA FOREVER.
Pixar feels the most free of the divisions to me, outside of 20th Century Studios and Searchlight. I feel their recent animated offerings have more of a voice and a personality, they feel like their filmmakers' own creations. Everything from LUCA to ELEMENTAL, all these post-Lasseter movies. I'm not really getting this kind of thing from the Disney Animation films made under Jennifer Lee's leadership, and given how audiences reacted to STRANGE WORLD and WISH (as in, those who actually saw them), I suspect audiences aren't, either. Are their movies being noted to death by upper management? That FROZEN II documentary did reveal that these films are test screened for toddlers, and then stuff is cut out to make things less intense. As if they are sanding off the edges of a perfectly fine piece of furniture.
Tumblr media
Maybe it's not villains and such that people missed in Disney animated films of late. Maybe they weren't upset at twists or whatever...
... but rather, they were not too fond of writing that feels like it got doctored relentlessly into being FROZEN 6.0, and also the lack of bite and that classic sense of danger that complimented the magic and "warm fuzzies" quite nicely in the more beloved Disney animated movies. You think Walt Disney gave two craps about the angry letters he got from parents over the frightening moments in SNOW WHITE and PINOCCHIO? If a Disney film has to be a little scary and intense, it should be. I don't understand this new thing where they hold back. Look at how warmly received DreamWorks' PUSS IN BOOTS sequel was last year; a good helping of some scary stuff for the kids in the audience should only help it do better, so long as everything else adds up.
(Note: "Warm fuzzies" was something a friend of mine, a fellow Disney enthusiast named Jim Miles came up with, and I use that phrasing quite a lot!)
The horizon for both studios is curious. Pixar's next is a guaranteed hit with INSIDE OUT 2, it's ELIO that's the more curious one. It'll be Pixar's 2nd-ever post-outbreak theatrical release of an original animated movie. WDAS' next is unknown, and they have ZOOTOPIA 2 and FROZEN III on the horizon, both of which sure to cover any recent losses. Maybe WDAS-2024 shows a change in direction, maybe it's another round of what STRANGE WORLD and WISH had to offer. Maybe it'll be taken back and retooled if WISH comes up short? There will likely be a much needed strike for animation when the Animation Guild can make that happen in mid-2024, so maybe we won't be seeing that very film next year. Stuff will likely be pushed back again, for a strike that NEEDED to happen. Maybe some self-reflection and strikes will do this studio good, they seem to be in a funk.
And in live-action land, you would think a new HAUNTED MANSION movie with that kind of cast (well, except for Jared Leto, yuck) and a rare-for-Disney PG-13 rating would be an all-timer, right? Big flop. Massive budget, probably noted to death, too. If not, then... Decisions were made, and audiences just didn't care for them unfortunately. The remakes, even the ones that make good money at the box office, are largely agreed to be stinkers. Audiences may have flocked to most of them, but if they weren't based on beloved movies... How would they have done? And what's next? A LION KING prequel that I'm certain won't make much of a stir, a delayed and iffy-looking SNOW WHITE remake that I feel will also have trouble at the box office... And more animated movie-based pictures, and some theme park ones maybe. They've run out of classics to remake, so now they're trying theme parks again. They keep trying to get this TRON-in-name-only movie off the ground that's not a sequel to TRON: LEGACY and doesn't involve anyone from the previous two films. And they're doing sequels/prequels to the remakes. But as we saw with ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS and MALEFICENT 2, that's not a guarantee. People came to see the car they loved with a new coat of paint, not a similar car made afterwards.
So, I think Marvel, Disney Studios, and WDAS are at a similar point to where the Disney enterprise was in the early-to-mid 1970s. Maybe even into the early 1980s...
youtube
Above: This logo, for the enterprise's 50th anniversary in 1973, would show up before the films released that year... Presumably, the Buena Vista distribution title card would follow. It does not appear on home video editions of the Disney films released that year. i.e. ROBIN HOOD, CHARLEY AND THE ANGEL, etc.
I think this is all telling me that some audiences aren't necessarily upset at what kinds of stories Disney is choosing to tell, but are instead a bit unsatisfied with the way they are telling those stories. That merely the reliance on brand names and what worked a decade ago is not enough anymore:
I think about where Disney was by around 1975-76, inching up on a decade without Walt Disney, and a few years after Roy O. Disney's passing... And it looks as if Walt Disney Productions at the time were delivering what was guaranteed to be successful... In 1965...
You had cheaply-made kid-friendly comedies starring TV mainstays and often times they co-starred an animal (THE BAREFOOT EXECUTIVE, MILLION DOLLAR DUCK, GUS, take your pick), you had standard adventure movies (such as TREASURE OF MATECUMBE and THE ISLAND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD), you had the occasional long live-action musical with animated scenes in them (BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS, PETE'S DRAGON), and the occasional animated feature film that was always directed by Wolfgang Reitherman and had that same lazy vibe that he'd been employing since THE SWORD IN THE STONE a decade ago...
You look at what Disney had to offer on the movie front from around 1969-1976, and it's like backwash from the early 1960s, and what worked back then... Interestingly, it was the animated movies that continued to do well during that period, contrary to popular belief. But nothing was a massive blockbuster domestically, on the level of 101 DALMATIANS or THE JUNGLE BOOK...
So, again, I think of Disney's output roughly 1967-1979... And I see what's coming out now as backwash from 2013-16. Guaranteed smash hit movies - Marvel superhero spectacles, remakes of animated classics, FROZEN-esque family movies... no longer foolproof. Pixar looks to be weathering this just fine, even if this timeline did not see LUCA and TURNING RED hit theaters nationwide. I still reckon those would've been big, big hits in a not-COVID world. How ELEMENTAL did tells me everything.
There was one lucky arm of Disney that somewhat avoided all of this... STAR WARS...
STAR WARS is largely just streaming shows now. There hasn't been a feature film since THE RISE OF SKYWALKER back in 2019. SOLO was the first movie in the whole franchise to actually lose money at the box office, the lowest-grossing film remains that very cheap CLONE WARS theatrical pilot movie. I feel SOLO lost money simply because the director change and subsequent refilming of almost the whole damn thing ballooned the budget, and there's only so many people you can drag to a Han Solo origin movie when a Wikipedia article is right there. Releasing it so soon after THE LAST JEDI didn't help, either. STAR WARS movies aren't MCU movies, I think you kinda need to let those sit for a little while. SOLO, I think, would've probably done better if it had been a Christmas 2018 release. Not the May right after LAST JEDI's December 2017 bow. Disney plans to release two new STAR WARS features in 2026, and well... Good luck with that. The new STAR WARS movies will be a test, to see if audiences will keep showing up for these movies. They aren't even entries in a new trilogy, so there's that.
Lucasfilm did do a new INDIANA JONES movie that did disastrously. Maybe audiences just weren't down for another adventure with Indy, maybe the market was a little too crowded, maybe those who saw it just didn't take to a Spielberg-less Indy movie. (Not a dig on James Mangold, but maybe audiences felt his absence?) Maybe it just cost too fucking much... Lucasfilm seems to just be "Star Wars Studios" now. They lost the rights to the book CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE, which they were supposed to adapt. They've barely made any live-action movies that *aren't* STAR WARS or INDIANA JONES on a consistent basis since RADIOLAND MURDERS all the way back in 1994. Like, what did they make between '94 and now that wasn't part of those huge franchises? RED TAILS, and an animated movie called STRANGE MAGIC. Both of which bombed... But I will be fair to Lucasfilm, a good chunk of the not-SW/Indy movies of the late '80s/early '90s also flopped.
Speaking of that... I also feel that Disney should probably invest in lower budget movies again? Not necessarily "cheap" stuff, but lower budget stuff that's more experimental and more creative? Not the kinds of movies that they can send straight to streaming, but small little movies that do okay in theaters and sorta help build a back catalogue for them. Why wasn't something like CRATER a theatrical release?
One of Disney's biggest live-action successes, a looooong time ago, was HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS. Produced for $18m, grossed over $200m worldwide and spawned some sequels. Did you know that movie actually outgrossed THE LITTLE MERMAID that same year? That's right, in 1989, HONEY made more money than MERMAID... Which film do you think is better remembered?
Anyways, what ended up happening after Disney's weird era after Walt's passing? In the late '70s and early '80s, they genuinely tried to experiment and redefine what a "Disney movie" could be, but a lot of it went south. TRON was probably the most successful of these experiments, but even that didn't measure up to expectations. Touchstone was set up, and they hit the ground running with SPLASH in 1984, and had quite a few successes into the late '80s... Films like THREE MEN AND A BABY and GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM. But that was Touchstone... Mainline Disney was where things needed to be happenin'...
And they weren't really... THE BLACK CAULDRON, THE JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN, ONE MAGIC CHRISTMAS, they were all coming up short. The little bit of respite came from efforts like FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR and THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE, smaller-budget productions that made their money back.
Eventually, the tides changed, and it was time to make movies that took the audience by surprise.
Tumblr media
While it was released under the Touchstone banner in 1988, I'd say WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT was the movie that really got the ball rolling... And then that would be followed by OLIVER & COMPANY, HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS, THE LITTLE MERMAID, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, etc. All of which reversed course for the studio's film output. You couldn't convince anyone over the age of 12 to check out a "Disney" movie in theaters five years earlier in 1983, but by the beginning of the '90s, you had all the demographics showing up to some of their films...
Maybe that's what Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will discover again in this weird post-outbreak, post-streaming world. They've hit this wall before, and they've gotten over it...
Maybe it's time for them to take a daring leap and make a proverbial new ROGER RABBIT-type movie that makes a Disney movie neat and worth checking out in the theaters again...
AND ALSO, TO TREAT THEIR FILMMAKERS AND STAFF BETTER, but that's another story.

FICTIONAL CHARACTER ASK: RAY STANTZ
Asked by anonymus
@amalthea9 @angelixgutz @thealmightyemprex @goodanswerfoxmonster @spengnitzed @bixiebeet @themousefromfantasyland @stantzed @filmcityworld1 @professorlehnsherr-almashy
Favorite Thing About Them: Ray is one of the first dorky geeks that was proud of his geekness in visual mass media. He is optimistic, resilient, outgoing, curious, sometimes shows concerns and reservations, but when pushed into a new situation, he jumps with entusiasm at the adventure, and he loves to share his passion about the supernatural with people, and even if he appears at the wrong hour, or some people are just not interested and may judge him as a "weirdo", he never looses his entusiasm or acts ashamed of who he is. A lot of people in the audience would love to have him as a friend because of how quick he is to embrace new people into his life, and he is also one of the first plus size characters that many fans to this day consider phisically atractive, wich should be considered an important mark in the Body Positivity movement.
Least Favorite Thing About Them: When in the novelization of the 1984 movie, there was an insertion of "Innocent Insensitivity" in his character in a scene where he reacts surprised for Winston being black, saying that "the supernatural reacts more strongly in the presence of black people". I hope Winston had a talk with Ray about the concepts of positive discrimination and exotification, and why they are harmfull, in private after that.
Three Things I Have In Common With Them:
*I enjoy the taste of roasted marshmallows as a comfort food;
*I love comic books;
*I have a fascination with mithology and folklore from around the world;
Three Things I Don't Have In Common With Them:
*I'm too easilly frightened to want to make physical contact with a ghost;
*I don't drive;
*Both of my parents are still alive;
Favorite Line:
From the October 1983 Script Draft:
"Drop everything; Venkman. We got one."
"Peter, at 1:40 this afternoon at the main branch of the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue, ten people witnessed a free-roaming, vaporous, full-torso apparition. It blew books from shelves at twenty feet away. Scared the socks off some poor librarian."
"No, this one's for real, Peter. Spengler went down there and took some PKE readings. Right off the top of the scale. Buried the needle. We're close this time. I can feel it."
"Spengler and I have charted every psychic occurrence in the Tri-State area for the past two years. The graph we came up with definitely points to something big."
"What do you mean by "seen?""
"Well, I was at an unexplained multiple high-altitude rockfall once."
"I told you it's real."
"Okay. Okay. I got it. I know what to do. Stay close. I have a plan."
"Okay, now do exactly as I say. Everybody ready?Okay... GET HER!!!"
"I guess I got a little overexcited. Wasn't it incredible! I'm telling you, this is a first. You know what this could mean to the University?"
"Then we were right! This is great. And if the ionization rate is constant for all ectoplasmic entities, I think we could really kick ass - in the spiritual sense."
"You said you floored ‘em at the Regents‘ meeting."
"My parents left me that house. I was born there."
"But at nineteen percent interest! You didn't even bargain with the guy."
"Wow! Does this pole still work?"
"Are you troubled by strange noises in the night? Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? Have you or your family actually seen a spook, specter or ghost? If the answer is yes, then don't wait another minute. Just pick up the phone and call the professionals —— Ghostbusters."
"Everybody can relax. I found the car. How do you like it?"
"Just needs a little suspension work...And a muffler...And maybe brakes."
"You know, Peter, this could be a past life experience intruding on the present."
"I just realized something. We've never had a completely successful test with any of the equipment."
"All right. Let's cool the negative vibes. These things can sense them."
"Sir, what you had there was what we refer to as a focused, non—terminal repeating phantasm or a Class Five Full Roaming Vapor...A real nasty one, too."
"I couldn't help it! It just popped in there!"
"It can't be! It can't be!"
"It's...It‘s...It's the STAY-PUFT MARSHMALLOW MAN."
"I tried to think of the most harmless thing...something that could never destroy us...something I loved from my childhood."
"The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man! He was on all the packages we used to buy when I was a kid. We used to roast Stay-Puft marshmallows at Camp Waconda!"
"Either way we're history."
From the novelization of the 1984 movie by Richard Mueller:
"It's not a car, it's an Ectomobile."

nOTP: Kylie Griffin.
Random Headcanon: In the 2009 videogame, Ray briefly mentions that he went to study in a Seminar, so I assume he was raised Catholic.
Unpopular Opinion: I wish he made use of the camera that he appeared at the beggining of the 1984 movie more often, as a way of documenting the ghosts behaviours, maybe even interviewing them. Is a pity that this filmaker side of Ray never went furter explored.

My quote hopefully inspired people who read it in the library today to kind of take a step back and realize there’s always fun in life and no matter what situation you find yourself in that it will be what you make of it. Finals can be stressful and it’s important to realize how little many of this actually matters so keep on trucking and keep on having fun. At the end of the day, it’s not about what your grades are or your tests score but rather the person you’ve become and developed into over the years here at Bonaventure that will truly matter.
Secret lives of color, page 244, states “Fallow is a faded, caramel-tawny color, the tint of withered leaves or grass, and one of the oldest color names in the English language." From the 1300s the word has been applied to farmland resting between seasons of use to replenish the soil-we still speak of fields lying fallow”. This quote was very eye opening for me as I can not recall the word fallow ever being used nor could I have put it in context prior to reading this today. After reading, I could visualize this exact color and season of crops and fields from back home and almost the exact moment in time in which the crops and field become fallow without ever even knowing that color or word meant.

Hihi
I did a few things!
Most of them are things i can't really show but i will try to summarize for those interested:
I have been cleaning up my project structure to make more of my materials and objects reusable.
I have also started to look into blender asset libraries and other options to move the entire level-layout and design process into blender itself.
Might see about importing custom properties from blender to godot as metadata. If i have to modify the importer myself, so be it.
Now to the visual aspects.
First of all, and even more noodle-ous caverns.
Tumblr media
Materials with transparency from Blender straight into Godot. A little inscription in this case. (still need to animate the fire for the torches)
Tumblr media
you'll definitely see more of these caves. I will use them to test and implement most of the basic features of the game.
Though, once i have more or less finalized my design pipeline i might show off more sections.

So, what are the plans for Reforged after reading the guidebook? I havent read it myself and tbh, im wondering if I should get it. Is it any good?
Oh boy, unfortunately for me, the guidebook did little in the way of worldbuilding other than showing off stuff inferred from the original books (the Mudwing succession crisis, Queen Monarch's fate, Rainwing emotion-to-color charts, etc). That's not to say there was absolutely no new worldbuilding, it's just there wasn't a lot for me to work with. This book explained Skywing wedding traditions (and how Scarlet's was far from traditional), what the makeup of a Mudwing sibling group consists of, the names of the moons (although I've heard that came from the graphic novels ((which I categorically despise on a visual level))), and that Nightwings were the ones who coined the writing script used in Pyrrhia.
Thank the moons they didn't actually show the script off because I'll bet my weight in gold they would've just made it a Latin alphabet cipher like every other half-assed "fantasy language".
Is it worth a read? It was enjoyable for what it was. But as someone who read the blurb teasing it back in 2019 saying it was gonna be a delve into the worldbuilding, only for it to be largely explaining things we heard about but didn't know about in detail, I'm rather miffed.
I took this screenshot back in 2021. Look at that. History. Mythology. and Folklore. I WAS ROBBED.
Tumblr media
I've been waiting in anticipation for this book since it was first announced pre-pandemic, but I think I'll leave it here. If Tui does continue with a fourth arc, I will not use any of its components for Reforged. (Future me, you better not make current me look as stupid as current me is making past me look stupid for saying the same about A3.)
I have access to all three arcs, all four winglets, both legends novels, and the guidebook. That's all I'll be using for my worldbuilding materials. My goals with Reforged is to keep the major plot beats largely unchanged, only improving the worldbuilding and the endings of the arcs. Arc 1's ending was serviceable, if a bit of a cop-out. Arc 2's ending was clunky and massively disappointing. Arc 3's ending didn't even seem connected to the premise its first book was going to set up.
Back to your question on whether or not you should get it. If you've got a local library, maybe check there for the guidebook, ask a library assistant if they could buy it, a local library of mine was willing to scrounge up the entire Age of Fire series upon my request. If that doesn't work, maybe find a pirated PDF and skim through that to see if you want the full experience of the book proper. If an irl friend of yours has already bought the book, ask to borrow it! I'm a huge proponent of testing things out before you buy em or picking cheaper options before making a big financial investment (such as finding books in secondhand stores where they're $2-5 instead of $20). You've got options, explore!

She is a keeper of realms. Her job is simple: save realms from falling apart. And she has been doing this for long enough to cover her each body part with wound marks. But she is a human after all with her own limits. So when she was sent on a mission to Titan Realm a series of events and a specific person makes her test her own limits and she finds herself on a new edge of sacrifice, love and bravery and probably a new wound.

From this day forth, the rules set out by the users of the study table should be: 1. This table shall only be populated by one Kim Namjoon and one ___, all others must ask for permission before using the premises. 2. Albert L. Lehringer’s word is the supreme law of the land. 3. The library is for learning only, not for falling in love.

so what if i brain rotted a little bit??
New Rome University
Known information about the University (from the Wiki)
Admission:
To get into New Rome University, a Greek demigod has to pass all their high school courses and score well on the SAT.
Have to pass the The Demigod Standard Test of Mad Powers (DSTOMP) which is an exam for Roman demigods.
Most of the content of the DSTOMP is unknown except that Apollo wrote the music and poetry analysis sections.
Description:
New Rome University has a bell tower.
The rooftop has precariously slanted red tiles.
The university's library rivals that of the temples.
Sunlight streams into the main reading room through the oculus, the round skylight in the center of the gilded dome ceiling.
Colorful tile mosaics of deities, famous Romans, and mythical creatures decorate the walls.
One candle lit hallway is paved with stones engraved with the names of lost heroes.
Some of the stones look worn and ancient, but others are brand new.
The library's shelves are chock-full of books and scrolls.
The dorm rooms have bunk beds. (i’m gonna disregard this because it’s stupid)
My Made Up Description of the University:
probably around 800-1,000 students
Both demigods and descendents of demigods
Very small campus in New Rome.
Dorms:
Romulus and Remus Halls
First two dorms on campus, named after the founders of Rome. Twin dorms (right next to each other). Old stone brick. Connected by a hallway between the two dorms.
Called “The Twins” (“where are you rooming?” “oh, I’m in the twins.”)
Doubles
Remus is known as the “shitty dorm” on campus.
Friendly rivalry between the two dorms
House of Minerva
Honor Hall for the Minerva Academic Honor Society (aka “MAHS” pronounced “mash”).
Not super big, but very aesthetic and right near the commons and library.
Doubles
Augustinus Hall
Named after the first president of New Rome University.
Nicest hall on campus.
Rooms are doubles with shared bathrooms between two rooms.
Upperclassmen Dorm (for mostly seniors/fourth years)
Library
Big building on the North side of the Quad.
Large old brick building with large windows.
Windowed dome on the top.
Steps leading up to the large front door.
Commons
Where the dining hall, mailboxes, and bookstore are.
Located right next to the library on the western side.
Dining hall has a gorgeous view of the valley.
Can sit inside or outside depending on what you feel like
Really good food, not stereotypical college food.
Academic Buildings:
Apollo Hall of Visual and Performing Arts
Music hall and art classroom
There’s actually a pretty good performance program
(needs name) Hall of Mathematics and Sciences
(needs name) Hall of Humanities and Languages

OK, so when it comes to UFOs or whatever you want to call them, I am the biggest sceptic.
Why?
Because I have never seen one or had an ET experience (not counting the fact that I DID once have the classic alien abduction dream!).
Yeah, I believe all that esoteric stuff because it's actually happened to me.
I've seen ghosts/spirits/whatever you want to call it, I've had paranormal experiences with spirits and encountered cryptids via the spirit of a Blemmyes which lived in the garden of my old house.
But I've never seen a UFO or encountered grey men or anything.
I once experienced a faux_UFO sighting, a public park miles away was holding an event with a laser show (this was back in '91 when it wasn't so common), I'd just finished a late shift at the library I worked in - walking home I saw all these flashing lights in the sky, zooming around in patterns.
The local radio stations were jammed with callers as it was also Halloween (no internet to check up with).
I was like, yes - that's it, there here (until the explanation came through).
Tumblr media
And the worlds of paranormal activity rarely cross over into the UFO sphere despite the obvious parallels.
With all the extraterrestrial revelations being in the news recently, I decided to put it to the test...
Do aliens exist, are UFOs a real thing?
I consulted my Spirit Guides and they pulled the following cards...
The Chariot - An exploratory craft: The Chariot is all about going to new places, exploration, the vehicle doesn't (usually) seem to be connected to the animal/being that pulls it - it's literally moving without any form of propulsion and always shown with the figure in the cockpit operating without any reigns (mind control).
6 of Wands (visually referencing) the X-Files: a pop culture reference, the open reading meaning (Yoav Ben-Dov) talks of collaboration. Are the "authorities" in cahoots with the little green men?
7 of Swords (again visually)a flying saucer shape, turn the card on its side you get the lozenge shape UFO with flashing red lights- the seven of Wands (can) mean combating many opponents, a struggle - do they not align with all the governments or is difficult to get to earth? The inner Sword hints at some form of unconventional travel in the way it links between the outer mesh of blades, yet passes through - do alien craft use inter-dimensional travel?
Finally, The Emperor - Ming The Merciless. The Emperor lives in a cold, steel-like environment. He lives for battle and conquest, his world is all about the struggle to win. Are the aliens aggressive or is it the humans who are battling them? Either way, he is not to be crossed.
So, that's fairly obvious then - aliens DO exist and are at war with "some" of the governments of the world but collaborating with others.
Until I see one for myself, I'm staying open-minded about it but the tarot oracles are wiser than me...
