The Blessed and Cursed Football
Once upon a time, in a town called Sportown, there lived a quiet short young thin boy named Andrew. He was very unpopular, because everyone in town was excellent at sports, and he wasn’t.
He dreamed to be the best football player in the world. And when he talked about his dream, the other boys at school laughed at him.
Every day, he returned home and cried. But one day, he crushed into a crazy old man. The man shouted a lot of things, and Andrew listened. There was a legend that if you touched the football in the statue at the centre of the square, you would be the best football player in the world. The greatest! But the man declared that the legend was incorrect. That wasn’t the correct football!
Curious, Andrew walked to the square. He looked at the statue of the greatest football player in the history of the town. He observed it for a long time. Then he noticed something.
The statue pointed to the church opposite the square. The people in Sportown constructed that church in honour of the Sport Gods. And on the roof, there was a mysterious small stone football.
The quiet short young boy crossed the square, and entered the church. There were paintings of famous sport people and Sport Gods on the ceiling, and the floor was decorated with various sport fields and courts – a volleyball court, basketball court, tennis court, handball court, rugby field, baseball field, and a football field.
Andrew looked at the football field. Something was wrong.
He measured the lines that marked one of the areas of the goals. He pressed it.
A door opened on the wall, and there were stairs on the other side. He climbed up the stairs, and arrived at the roof.
There were words on the mysterious small stone football. “The Gods blessed and cursed this football”.
He covered the stone with his hands. A strong wind pushed him, and the football turned into a real football.
And the hair on his head disappeared.
The next day, at school, he started to play football. And he was very good. He was fantastic! Some boys watched him, surprised. Some boys laughed because he was bald. But Andrew continued to play. And he dominated every game he played.
After he finished school, Andrew started to work as a professional football player. He travelled to many countries, and earned a lot of money. He and his family moved to Richytown, and he never visited Sportown again.
But on the ceiling of the church, there is a painting of the best football player in the world: The Great Baldy.

Hey guys! On our 4th day in Greece, we started our day with a tour of The American College of Greece at the Deree location! This is the alma mater of our amazing guide, Sylvia! The American College of Greece started on 1875! Our campus ambassador, Matina, gave us a through tour of the campus! Our tour started with the career office. In the career office, students can inquire about jobs and internships as well as their major and minor.
We also saw the gym on campus. Inside the gym is the office of athletics. The office of athletics coordinates field trips, camping trips, and other athletic activities. The gym also has a basketball court, volleyball court, tennis courts, and a climbing wall. There is also a gym facility and students have the ability to work with a personal trainer to create workout and nutrition plans. There are also free dance classes, yoga classes, and ping pong. When Sylvia was in undergrad, she enjoyed playing Jenga in the gym facilities!
The campus library has over 500,000 books on site and over 500,000 more online. The library has 10 group study rooms and 8 single study rooms, each with a computer and sound proof walls. There are computers around the library for students to use as well as a help desk and student assistance services which can provide students with a tutor.
There are a variety of speciality buildings around campus. Such as the trading room where accounting, finance, and business students can study the stock market. There is a STEM lab with 3D human body models for physics, biological sciences, chemistry, and mathematics students. There is also an art center, computer lab, and communication building.
The main quarter houses a variety of essential building for students to use. The cafeteria “Food Corner” is a full cafeteria with a coffee cafe. We enjoyed lunch today at the Food Corner! I had pork souvlaki with grilled vegetables! The main quarter also has the student lounge where students can study, hangout, play board games, and even play Playstation! There is also a student affairs office with a variety of clubs, societies, and organizations. The main quarter also hosted the health and wellness center, international student office, study abroad office, and the student success center.
On campus, there is also a church, zen garden, an open theatre and even Starbucks! There is an olympic size track and field and an outdoor pool. Students can join a team to play rugby, soccer, volleyball, archery, water polo, and many more!
At the American College of Greece, all classes are in english and there are a little over 1,000 students! After our tour, we watched a couple presentations and enjoyed a delicious lunch! I thoroughly enjoyed our time at the American College of Greece and I would recommend anyone interested to look into spending a semester studying abroad there.

who the heck is "resharc"
I got tagged so i guess now im "it".
Who were you named after?
Tumblr media
My real name shall remain a secret. the meaning of my name is unfortunate and i dont need omegaverse weirdos in my life
The name "Resharc" is something I made up years ago and used as a username. I just kinda stuck with it, it doesn't mean anything.
the blog name "pwdev" comes from the brief time I was making a Phoenix Wright-inspired game. I never actually posted anything here so it's kinda funny that i still have the blog name
I think "resharc.tumblr.com" is taken. I think.
i might swap it after writing this if i can, so that's immediately becoming out of date
When was the last time you cried?
Damn that's a bit personal
Do you have kids?
Kids? In this economy?
What sports do you play/did you play?
I've played a lot, surprisingly. Baseball, football (soccer for you uncouth heathens), rugby, wall climbing, golf, tennis...
I never stuck with them for very long. The longest I've consistently played a sport is about 3 years, and that's because I was basically forced to.
Do you use Sarcasm?
I don't know, do you?
First thing you notice about people?
I haven't really thought about this.
I am secretly the vainest person alive, so I suppose one's appearance.
Do you have any talents?
I'm not really sure.
I'm okay at programming I guess. Some people like my art. I'm able to quickly read books.
Scary Movies or Happy Endings?
I am taking the forbidden "third" way, and saying "both".
Why yes, I am a centrist, how could you tell?
In all seriousness, I tend to prefer scary movies (provided it's more psychological and vibes). House of Leaves is my favourite book for a reason.
Where were you born?
A small island in the corner of the world that doesn't show up on many maps.
What are your hobbies?
In no particular order:
Video games
Reading
Cooking
Game development
Getting really into game design for some reason this shit's like a curse get it OFF of me
wow thats not a lot is it?
Do you have any pets?
My cat, Midnight, the love of my life. my muse. my shining light.
Tumblr media
if you want more pictures of her, I'll start posting them daily or something. This can totally become a "resh's cat pic blog" instead of anything related to video games.
How tall are you?
The exact height where people lie about being an inch taller.
What was you favourite subject in school?
Computer Science, because I'm the biggest fucking nerd apparently
Dream job?
I'd love to properly make games and be paid an actual livable wage. Alas, I will continue to Rise and Grind in my current job until I have something I'm happy with showing the world.
I don't really have anyone to pass this to, so this is a dead end. sorry

My own exolympics AU post (summer version). Some of these were really difficult and that’s why for so many of these I don’t have one single definitive choice of sport.
Minseok: Wrestling or rugby. I didn’t mean to start this list horny but what is 2021 Minseok so beefy for if not pinning his opponent down into submission? Did I say that out loud? Oops. Considering Minseok’s past as a soccer player, I do think that he enjoys team sports, which is why I think rugby also would’ve worked for his physique. I had considered sports like shot put/hammer throw/discus throw or weightlifting, but I think they are too solitary for a Minseok who enjoys more interaction in his sports. Minseok is a footie fanatic too, and it would be fun imagining him playing soccer with athletes from other sports in the common area.
Junmyeon: Modern pentathlon or fencing. The exo members as well as Junmyeon’s friends (including his basketball player friend Mo Yonghun) have said that he is very fit and takes care of his body a lot, so I had trouble matching him up with a specific sport. I was looking for sports that were a bit bougie (because his dad is a professor and Junmyeon looks like a prince), as well as sports with physiques that were a bit more average (because Junmyeon is rather well proportioned). The pentathlon includes fencing, shooting, swimming, horse show jumping, and running, several of which I had considered for Junmyeon. Fencing and show jumping definitely suit the bougie part of him. And I remember him saying that he swam and ran often. I had also considered table tennis because Junmyeon’s body type seemed to match up with table tennis players’ body types quite a bit. Anyway, my final choice is pentathlon, but if I had to choose just one sport specifically, I’d choose fencing. Enough bougie with enough moving around and making use of his superior physique. And table tennis is a close third haha.
Yixing: Badminton. I respect badminton as a sport as someone who played it for a number of years, I just don’t have good memories of badminton lessons, which was why I was reluctant to say this haha. But Yixing is lean, and I think that matches up with badminton players quite well. I had considered long distance/marathon sports too, like cycling or running or triathlon, but I don’t think Yixing is quite that lean. Also, imagine Yixing in the muscle shirt with a gold necklace v.v If you have watched badminton, you probably know the visual I’m trying to express lol. Anyway he’d be a singles player.
Baekhyun: Karate. Funnily enough, it’s not because of Baekhyun’s background in martial arts. I just feel like Baekhyun is the kind of guy who suits a sport that he can do anywhere, anytime. My original choice for Baekhyun was BMX racing but I just felt like he doesn’t suit a sport that requires a lot of gear (bike, helmet, etc.). I had considered surfing and skateboarding for Baekhyun too because I think he suits sports that have a more chill atmosphere among athletes (i.e. a sport that’s not so stuffy), but again, too much gear, and surfing can only take place in the water, which I also feel doesn’t really match Baekhyun? Taekwondo doesn’t really match Baekhyun because Taekwondo athletes tend to be tall with long legs.
Jongdae: Wrestling or kayak slalom. I had A LOT of trouble matching Jongdae up with a sport. His body type just didn’t seem to remind me of any specific sport. When he bulks up he’s stocky but not broad. But because he can get stocky I felt like wrestling could suit him. Admittedly I don’t watch a lot of canoe/kayak slalom, but Jongdae has shown on many occasions that he doesn’t get scared easily, and I feel like something thrilling like slalom would be fun for him. I did also consider rock climbing considering how he was totally not scared when on the rock climbing wall in Minseok’s H4U, but I looked up rock climbing and apparently they tend to be taller.
Chanyeol: Beach volleyball. Volleyball obviously makes sense given his height. But beach volleyball teams are only made up of two people, so he gets more attention, and also he gets to be a beach thot. I was thinking of surfing too for maximum thot vibes, but I did a bit of reading and apparently the best surfers aren’t typically that tall. I’d also considered rowing since I think Chanyeol has the body type for it, but I feel it’s too serene of a sport for someone as chaotic and restless as him.
Kyungsoo: Judo or rowing (as the coxswain XD). Kyungsoo was the other member I had a lot of trouble with, especially because we don’t know what his physique really is like because dude never takes off his shirt (and I respect him for that, keep giving us nothing). I looked up the body types for the judokas who are on the smaller side and I felt that Kyungsoo kind of matched up with that. Plus, I think he’s practised some judo for a movie role. In terms of rowing, for those of you who don’t know, in the eight-people rowing races, there is a person (usually much smaller, any gender) who usually sits at the end of the boat called a coxswain who is responsible for keeping the rowers coordinated. I know scarysoo is a meme and real Kyungsoo isn’t actually that mean, but I felt like that was a job that he could be good at. If he remembers to wear his glasses so he can properly see. Plus, whichever team wins the race gets to throw their coxswain into the water (this is actually real, I did not make this up), so imagine 8 big men or women throwing tiny Kyungsoo into the water with glee.
Jongin: Artistic gymnastics. I think this has been the popular headcanon and I think it fits. I don’t know how flexible he is, but I just feel like he’d be the kind of guy to look very graceful on all the apparatuses. I think his strengths would be floor exercise and pommel horse. His long legs would look so good when he does his spins (I don’t know what they’re called lol). Plus he’d be very pretty in the gymnastics uniform.
Sehun: WATER POLO. If you don’t know anything about water polo, they have some of the most aesthetically pleasing physiques, just like Sehun. The sport is fun to watch but so are the men. (God I’m a pervert) I think swimmer Sehun has been the more popular headcanon and it fits too. He has the height for it (Sehun with the massive lat muscles anyone?). I just can’t stop thinking of water polo Sehun in the speedo and cute water polo cap. Either way, he’d be the heartthrob of the pool. Sehun also recently revealed in an interview that he was obsessed with golf, and I can see him in the whole golf fit haha.
Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know!

Untamed Spring Fest Day 9: Shower
Jiang Cheng always knew Lan Academy fostered a healthy appetite for competition among its students, urging them to do their best in an attempt to be their best, but even he didn’t expect their take on field day to be so brutal.
Jiang Cheng thought Andover was bad but this---he’d been attending these events at Xichen’s side for over ten years now and somehow each year kept getting more and more competitive, more and more challenging. It was as if, with all the increased free time he had in his semi-retirement, Lan Qiren had become the ultimate obstacle course taskmaster.
Then again, this was nothing compared to the mud pile tug of wars and any rugby match ever at the Cloud Recesses, so he shouldn’t have been surprised.
But this was madness.
And apparently Lan Academy.
It was raining in sheets, windy, sideways, turning the formerly bright and sunny obstacle course into an actual mud pit. Any sensible person would’ve called it off, but neither rain nor sleet nor snow seemed to stop the students of Lan Academy on Field Day.
Especially not when Lan Qiren had the whistle.
“It’s---this is like Hell Week. For SEALS,” Jiang Cheng said as he stared out among the gathered group of Lan Academy Seniors in their official gym clothes, all ready to go as soon as  the whistle blew.
“Isn’t it great,” Mingjue said. He had a clipboard and a stopwatch in his hand. Slap the man into a track suit and he’d look like a professional coach and was acting like one as well. “My money’s on Jingyi this year, but that Ramos kid is pretty tough, and Sizhui’s the quiet and devious type. Ava’s my dark horse--tiny, but dangerous.”
Jiang Cheng turned to his husband. “Where’s all your peace and love school community spirit now?” he asked.
The venerated Headmaster Lan shrugged from his safe place under one of the large white tents. He waved a little Lan Academy flag and gave an undignified whoop.
Field Day at Lan Academy was clearly in the Twilight Zone.
“You see this rain, yes?” Jiang Cheng asked. He’d never seen it rain like this at Lan Academy before. “Actual rain showers. Sideways rain showers.” He held up his phone. “Flash Flood Watch rain showers.  Aren't you worried about possible injuries?” Jiang Cheng said.
“Everyone’s consent form is signed and they’re always offered the chance to leave the course at any moment. There’s no shame in using good sense,” Xichen said.
“Do you hear the bullshit coming out of your mouth right now?” Jiang Cheng asked.
Xichen slapped him in the stomach. “Language, my heart. There are children about.”
“And our nephews are about to inhale at least three liters of mud,” Jiang Cheng said, pointing out to the field.
“Not if they keep their balance,” Xichen said.
“You’re enjoying this,” Jiang Cheng said.
Xichen grinned. “Just reminds me of my final field day as a student here. Had to scale Gusu Hill in rain just like this--we got up it, with teamwork.”
Jiang Cheng shook his head and cursed again. “This is just like Hell Week.”
“Not even a little bit,” Xichen said. “Except for the learning to work as a team part.”
He raised his hand and signaled the start of the race. Lan Qiren blew his whistle. And the seniors were off in a mad, mud-filled scramble.
**********
“You have a fan club.”
Jin Ling looked up from where he was preparing his bow to turn and see his parents and siblings all in the middle row of the bleachers, waving and cheering him on, big, glittery signs, and Lan Academy flags, and even his father shaking a white and blue pom-pom.
At a normal archery match they couldn’t be so enthusiastic, but here, in the old Lan Academy gym turned into an indoor range on one side of and a rock-climbing wall on the other, they were free to show their support.
Jin Chan scoffed from the other end of the range.
Jin Ling ignored his cousin. His uncles were right; Jin Chan wasn’t even worth a single breath.
Coach Wen raised his hand and the crowd silenced. Jin Ling could still hear whispers of some members of the crowd; most of the Jins, the ones who remained loyal to his grandfather; the ones who disapproved of his father staying home to raise his children and being far more involved in the business of the Jiangs and the Nies than the Jins,  were there to support Jin Chan. And Jin Chan knew it, which was why he was being extra-arrogant today.
Jin Ling couldn’t give a fuck.
He had his immediate family--the best of the Jins here. He had the Lans. He had Lan Academy. He had the Song-Xiao clan (though, to be fair, they were also here for Yating). He had Mrs. Ouyang, who had made a rare trip to visit this time, on the last of Zizhen’s Lan Academy Field Days. He had his cousins and uncles. He had the Delaneys. He had Zizhen himself.
Jin Ling remembered all of this as he prepared to take his shot. He’d done this over and over again for years, indoor and outdoor ranges, all over the world.
The signal sounded.
Arrows flew.
Jin Ling was the only to hit dead center.
They repeated it over and over again until the competition was done. Jin Ling was the only one to manage to keep a center grouping. April was a close second. Yating a close third. Jin Chan was at the very bottom of the results.
“It’s not like this is a real competition anyway,” Jin Chan sneered.
It still felt damn good to Jin Ling when that Lan Academy gold medal went around his neck.
**********
Ouyang Zizhen laughed at the two mud monsters who were once his best friends. The track events had been pushed back to the later afternoon. Luckily the rain showers had finally stopped, and while the track was still wet, it was manageable. Jingyi and Sizhui had obviously not been so lucky.
“You two tied, didn’t you?” he asked as he continued his warm-up.
“We had to sacrifice Ari,” Jingyi said. “But it was a worthy sacrifice in the end. Ava nearly got us, but she came in fifteen seconds behind us..”
“Congratulations,” Zizhen said. “But please go let one of the coaches power-wash you two. If you get mud on the track, Sophie will yell at you.”
Even under the mud, he could see Sizhui wince. Sophie McKim’s wrath was a thing to be feared. Especially on the track. Especially during the relay.
“Do your dorm team proud,” Jingyi said, reaching up to pat him on the shoulder.
Zizhen smoothly stepped back. “I’ll take that show of support and spirit. Please go de-earthify yourselves.”
“It’s not like we aren’t going to get just as dirty during the final event,” Jingyi said. “I’m pretty sure they’re adding mud to the field at this point.”
“Lans! Get your muddy asses off my track! Now!” Sophie yelled, her ponytail up high, her face screaming that a murder was about to happen.
“Shit,” Jingyi said as he scrambled away.
Zizhen laughed as Jingyi managed to clear three entire hurdles before cutting across the center to the other end of the bleachers and towards the locker room where Molly Lan stood with a hose at the ready.
“And that’s the love of your life,” Zizhen said, looking at Sizhui’s stupid grin.
“Yeah, yeah it is,” Sizhui agreed. He nodded at Zizhen one last time and then followed in Jingyi’s footsteps, minus the hurdles and the enraged Sophie McKim.
Zizhen was in his final set of stretches when someone tossed a water bottle at his feet. It landed perfectly--perfect toss, perfect aim, perfect landing. He looked up and saw Jin Ling waving from the stands.
“How?” Zizhen asked.
“I’m just that good,” Jin Ling said. “Do us all proud and don’t suck at this,” he said, before going back up into the stands, sitting down next to Zizhen’s mom.
**********
After the final awards ceremony; after the final bell signalling the end of the day; after many tired students and proud parents left for family dinners out to enjoy the start of the long weekend, the true--though unofficial--final event of Lan Academy Field Day took place.
It was a tradition almost as old as the school.
A rugby match free-for-all featuring the seniors, some of the staff, and a few chosen alumni. It always ended in mud and grass stains, torn shirts, cuts and bruises. The rugby game took the teamwork required for the obstacle course and relays, the patience of the archery competition, the reflexes of the tennis and fencing matches, the cheering crowds from the soccer, dodgeball, basketball, and baseball games, the strategy of the chess matches, and combined them all together and ended in this one final match.
It was also one of the few times of year anyone saw Headmaster Lan out of his Lan traditional outfit or one of his suits. Their kind, supportive, caring headmaster looked like a giant on the rugby field, his broad shoulders on display as he leaned on his best friend, and stared out over the other players.
“I swear he never looks that intimidating at home,” Jingyi said as he lounged on the bench next to Sizhui.
“It’s because we hardly ever see his competitive side,” Sizhui said.
And Lans, for all their beliefs and teachings, abhorred losing.
“It’s probably the one time of year he can get his aggression out against the staff,” Zizhen said.
That was the one catch: the Headmaster would participate, but only on the students’ team, and only if they formerly asked him to before the match.
Not a year had passed since becoming headmaster that Lan Xichen wasn’t asked.
At the end of the bench, in between the tub of Gatorade and another of ice water, Jiang Cheng sat with his head in his hands, for once united with Meng Yao, as they both glared down their foolish husbands.
“What are you assholes trying to prove?” Jiang Cheng finally yelled.
“Cursing is forbidden at Lan Academy!” an entire chorus answered him.

hey guys!! wanted to give you a glimpse of the first chapter (still in progress btw) of my johnlock fic Ballad!
i’ll tag some people bc i really want their opinion @tv-saved-the-teenage-girl @ohmyagony @wallpatterns @johnlockhappiness @ba-ba-baker-street
here it is under the cut: it’s VERY long so that’s why there’s a cut
At first John was not happy with the decision of transferring to Saint Barts. It didn't matter to him that it had been his dad's "home away from home". His family needs him and going away to some school thirty miles away won't help. Not to mention the money they didn't have to pay for the school. "Don't you worry about that Johnny, just worry about your grades," was all his mum said on the matter. She never mentioned money problems to him but she didn't have to. John faced the window and looked at the rolling hills pass by as the city life faded into the background. His bags filled the empty seat beside him, a sign to any new passenger in the train that it's best if he's left alone. He tried to remember the last time he had even been in the countryside but no memory came up.   The memory of his mum and Harry standing at the bus stop floats into his mind. His mum, trying not to cry in public waved and tried to smile as her second eldest child is being sent off to a posh boarding school. Harry with her stance wide and protective, adorned a look only saved for terrible times. Their father always said that she was too dramatic for her own good which caused to her to leave as a ghost of her former self and care too little about things that should matter the most. He tried not think of recent events that have affected him greatly but it pushed its way into his conscience. The divorce, his dad leaving and never really looking back. The sudden but not really new happening of his mum's drinking. Guilt grew in John's stomach, making him almost physically sick. How could he leave his mum? In a time like this? What kind of son was he? He felt himself already spiraling down a path that was hard to walk out of. Ella would have a field day with this. She would tell him that he shouldn't blame himself on something that was bound to happen. If he is having certain thoughts about certain things that don't exactly need to be mentioned he needs to tell her. He pushed all of this out of his mind, only focusing on the condensation rolling down the window and into the pane of glass. An announcement sounded on an old intercom in the corner of the train "Stop thirteen, from London to Makkanshire. Please exit." John heaved his heavy luggage and hobbled off the car, up the stairs and into the empty streets ready to hail a cab. It didn't take long, it was a small town and John was one of few people on the streets. The cabbie helped him with his bags and didn't comment on the limp in his leg as everybody else usually does. He makes light conversation on the weather, the horrible traffic Makkanshire's having, even asks where John is headed. "Saint Barts, sir. A boarding school not far from here." John kindly replied. He keeps looking out the window wishing the traffic could hurry just a bit faster for his sake. "Oh a boarding school, seems nice." The cabbie said, looking into the rearview mirror. "Ever been into the countryside, or are you a city lover?" He asked then, giving a small chuckle. John gave a small chuckle back and smiled tightly. "Never been to the country but it sounds nice." He took out his camera and began to fiddle with it, hoping the cabbie saw it as some sort of signal of an end to the conversation. Thankfully he didn't speak another word much to John's relief. Traffic started up again, and they slowly wind their way through the roads to their destination. John watched again as the city life slowly trickled away letting trees grow more and more together, and buildings became less prominent. Why does he need to go to a school so far in the country anyway? What's the point of that, he'll get the same education as he did at his old school, so what does it matter? He can hear Ella's voice say to him "This will be good for you, a change of scenery is what you need." John rubbed the spot in his shoulder that was suddenly giving him pain. Fifteen minutes later the cab pulled into a graveled driveway, passing two marvelous iron gates that were towering over them. As soon as the car stopped outside of the crumbling walls that led into the estate itself, John eagerly toppled out, nearly tripping over himself. The cabbie opened the rear and helped him gather his luggage up, kindly offering to help John all the way to where he needed to go. "Don't worry I got it, thank you though." John politely declined. He didn't have much money in his wallet but he paid his fare and gave extra as well just so it didn't seem like John was a prick. As the car pulled away, John couldn't help but wonder how on earth was he supposed to do any of this. He sighed, picked up his bags and strides with false confidence through the opening and into the school of Saint Barts. °•°•°•°•°•°•° After gathering directions from two fourteen year olds, that helped him in no way, shape or form, John finally came about the boarding house he was assigned to. There were six boarding houses, three for girls and three for boys. They were all categorized by names who influenced greatly within history. His boarding house was named accordingly - Doyle. Okay, you can do this, yeah? John thought to himself. Right. Yes. He hiked his knapsack higher on his shoulder to avoid pain. While trying to balance his sports bag on top of his suitcase, John attempted to open the front door with full hands but failed in doing so. It wouldn't have worked anyway, there had to be a passkey for it. Thankfully a few students noticed his struggle and opened the door for him. He muttered a quick "Thank you" and dragged his luggage in behind him. He would have to make a point to get a passkey. John walked into foyer that seemed to be newly refurbished but still exuded an air of sophistication. A grand staircase reached up into the second floor no doubt leading to the student's rooms, to his left there were two adjoining rooms, a small kitchenette and what seems to be a spacious common room. He heard the commotion of rowdy boys coming from that direction and decides to head there. He opened the door to reveal a small group of boys circled around each other, laughing with one another. It looked to be a comfortable room. A sofa sat in corner across from a fire place with two boys lounging comfortably on top. All around were things to make this place feel like home, a small piano in the back, dart board, table tennis, a flat screen in the corner with the sofa. One of the boys looked up at John, which caused the rest to look too. "Can I help you mate?" "Oh yes, hi," John fumbled with his words. "I'm new here, my name's John. John Watson." A subtle whisper went around the room sizing up John just from looks alone. He stood in the doorway, fidgeting a bit under the stares. John was starting to think that maybe this was a bad idea until a familiar voice made itself known from th back of the room. "John Watson you say? Remember me, Mike Stamford?" John looked for the source of the voice and found a husky boy about his age beaming at him. He was taller than john, towering over him by a few inches, a round face with round glasses and bright eyes. Suddenly it clicked for him that the boy he is looking at was a friend from his old secondary school. Without thinking a smile stretched onto his face as he greeted Mike. "Mike! What are you doing here? Come here you git!" John pulled him into a hug,   both patting each other on the back. Mike leaned back and took a look at John. "Moved here when I turned fourteen, been here ever since. I'm on the rugby team too. What brings you here? Last time I heard, you were going to stay in Darnier, what happened?" John stiffened at the mention of his old school but only for a fraction of a second. His smile suddenly felt too thin and began to droop down. "Mum wanted me to go to my dad's old school, felt like it was better than Darnier." That wasn't a lie but not the whole story either. Mike laughed in response, it noticing that John has deflated, and began to move around John towards the door. "You want help with your bags? Could show you your room if you'd like." "Oh really? That's great, yeah thanks." John turned around and proceeded to gather some of his luggage and follow Mike up the grand staircase to the student's rooms. As they ventured farther up John's breaths became shorter and more forced meanwhile Mike is chattering away, definitely not huffing and puffing like John. "We've got newbies in the past before but never in our year so I'm happy to see you," Mike spoke as he climbed up the stairs. John took note of his friend's husky build and muscles that had appeared from the years of rugby. "Happy to be here," John huffed out. He felt his shoulder sag under the weight of his backpack but ignored it and walked on. They made it to the top of the staircase, finally, and continued down a corridor of doors on both sides. Some doors were open, some were not yet John could hear the familiar rumble of boy's laughter ring throughout the hall. Mike described in detail about the layout of where everything is, the rules that apply and the unspoken rules among the boys. "Each side you've got a room, one side of the room has two beds bunked with two desks side by side. Every room has their own bathroom, thankfully, and with a first aid kit inside the cabinet. Lights out by ten, we go to town every Sunday, and most importantly you don't snitch on anyone." John took all of this in stride as they became closer to his room. The way the room was set up didn't seem to bother him much by the way Mike had explained it. He was thankful for his own private bathroom, well him and his roommate's bathroom. From the sound of it, John had a feeling that he would do just fine here, a small glimmer of hope. Curiosity finally got the best of him as to who his roommate was. He decided to ask Mike, he might know. "Say, do you know who I'm rooming with?" John could see Mike visibly wince. Was he that bad? Mike stopped walking and turned around to face him. He set down the bags he was carrying and took a deep breath in. He seemed hesitant to talk but decided to anyway. Mike carefully chose how to phrase his sentence. "You see John, your roommate isn't the, what's the words? Ideal roommate you could say." He explained. John laughed incredulously. What could make him so terrible of a roommate? "What does he perform crazy experiments like a mad scientist?" John joked. Mike nodded solemnly. John's eyes bugged. "You're serious? Well what else is he like?" "It's a bit hard to explain but we're almost there so you'll just meet him for yourself and then you assess what he's like then." Mike picked up John's bags then resumed walking down the hall to John's room. Just like he said, it didn't take much longer to reach it. The door had the number twenty one engraved into its wood that was the color of mahogany. It appeared quite rustic, fitting in perfectly with the ambience of the building. It sat across room twenty two which were both located at the end of the hall. The door also had a mini white board attached in the corner, it had a marker but it was blank. John noticed that while the other doors had at least some stickers or writing, this door had none of the sort.  Mike gave an anxious glance before opening the door. John walked in towards the middle of the room and did a mini spin taking it all in. Just as he was promised there were indeed bunk beds occupying one half of the room and desks in the other half. There were also two wardrobes on either side with a full length mirror in between and a bathroom down the middle splitting the room. It's a good size room, definitely cozy and not stuffy. It had muted sea green walls with different frames of art covering it. On the ceiling was a mini chandelier brightly lighting up the room when Mike had flicked the light switch. "Sherlock? Are you there?" Mike strolled in, setting down the luggage as he did so. Silence answered back. No one seemed to be here, John realized. For reasons unknown he found that to be a bit strange. Mike looked at john in apology. "I guess he isn't here at the moment," he reasoned. Mike roamed over to the doorway with his body halfway out. "I guess you'll meet him later then, yeah? Well I suppose I'll let you get settled in. Good luck with everything." "Yeah, see you later," John waved off. Mike disappeared leaving John alone. He glanced around the room in a daze deciding what to do next. Unpacking, that's what's next. John claimed the bottom bunk, he needed to be on the bottom in case his nightmares forced him to fall off. The school required to bring a pillow and a single blanket so John fetched his and made his bed. Getting up, he unpacked his clothing into his wardrobe placing them into drawers and placing them upon hangers. Saint Barts did not require uniforms so John was able to bring his personal clothes. They did however heavily encourage students to wear clothing from their website that had the school crest stitched in. After placing his toiletries inside of the bathroom, John was finally done. It did take him some time to do so, he chose to bring most of home with him so he wouldn't feel lonely during his stay. He didn't know what to do next so he resolved to sitting on his bed going through his camera that he pulled out of his bag. It was one of those professional cameras, a Nikon, costed a lot of money. It wasn't John's decision to get it in the first place. It was a part of his therapy, Ella suggested that he take pictures, to capture any emotion that he was feeling. He thought that to be a bit foolish because he had never been skilled in the arts. He only bought it a few weeks ago so he was still a bit rubbish at it. His camera roll consisted of dreary trees and different fields of grass captured in a weird angle. Ella had told him that he was certainly getting better at it but he didn't see it. She stated to him that this was supposed to be an outlet for him but the only thing it seemed to do was make him feel even more useless than before. John had thought because he is now farther away from home that his sessions with Ella would decrease but that hasn't been the case. Instead of twice a week it has been moved up to three times a week; Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday. It's not that he doesn't think he needs it because John knows very well that he needs the therapy. But this will be his third year in therapy and while he and Ella have come a long way he has danced with progress for quite some time. Some days are better than others, he's able to get things done and be productive like he should. On those days he sees how things are getting better for him. The other days are the hardest though, the days when he can't sit up because of the weight on his chest won't let him move. Not that he would want to move, staying in bed would be much better than having to deal with the world and everyone in it. John got sick of looking through his camera so he put it on his desk, too many mistakes that he can't fix. [MIGHT CHANGE THIS] He decided to walk around campus so he wouldn't get lost trying to find his classes. The buildings were just as beautiful as they were described in the pamphlet he was given. There were two buildings dedicated to the core subjects, types of sciences and maths were in one, history and English literature in the other. Any subject on art though was coupled with the gym for physical education. He walked along the path that went through the heart of the whole setting. In the middle it had a small fountain with benches surrounding it. When John sat down on one, he could see straight through two buildings that showed the front gates. Parked there was a fancy looking van with people around it. They were unloading bags from the trunk so John figured this was a student arriving late. He had been right, the kids who seemed about his age that were standing around starting walking past the car and over to the front building towards the office.

About the Game of Squash
Tumblr media
Squash is a racquet game that may be played with two or four people depending on the match being played. The single match involved two players, while the double match involved four players. The game uses a tiny, hollow rubber ball on a four-walled court. Both players also carry squash rackets. Squash's beginnings are a little hazy because two ideas try to explain how it came to be. The first is that students at Harrow School created it outside of London in 1830. The students noticed that a punctured racketball "squashed" when it collided with the wall. This resulted in a game with a wide range of shots that required a lot of extra work from the players. According to the World Squash Federation, the second hypothesis is that a group of London debtors' inmates used to play squash. They utilized rackets to whack balls against the walls as a kind of exercise. Squash did not evolve from tennis, contrary to popular perception. Due to the usage of rackets in the sport, it was thought to have originated with tennis. Instead, it was derived from a similar game known as 'racquets' in England. Rubber balls are used in squash, as you are probably aware. When these balls are hit, they are squished against the wall due to the nature of the material. Squash courts are rectangular and are surrounded by four walls. There are three walls: the front wall, two sidewalls, and the back wall. It has a flat floor and a clear height over the court area. An international court's back wall is built of glass so that spectators can observe the game. Two officials should generally officiate a match: a marker and a referee. These match officials maintain track of the score, the proper service box, and who is serving. Squash is an upper and lower body workout that strengthens muscles and burns up to 800 calories each hour, making it ideal for seniors who want to keep fit. The NHS recommends that older persons seeking a more rigorous workout regimen strive for 75 minutes of strenuous aerobic activity and strength exercises that train the major muscles in their body two or more days a week. In recent research by Forbes Magazine, squash was rated the world's healthiest sport, beating out rowing, rock climbing, swimming, cross-country skiing, basketball, cycling, jogging, and boxing. The researchers looked at the effects of each sport on your endurance, strength, and flexibility. The Forbes study further provides that squash burns 517 calories each half-hour of play, which is more than any other sport they looked at. As a result, one should get a tremendous exercise in a short amount of time. On April 12, 2015, the world's longest squash match lasted 35 hours and two minutes. Adam Fisher and Darren Yates, two professional New Zealand players, competed in Perth, Australia. Harrow officially unveiled new racquets and fives court facility on January 20, 1865. The fives courts had a mixed response. The four new Eton fives courts saw a lot of action right away, whereas the four new Rugby fives courts never saw many efforts.

why did i take a gym class this year.
why did i think this would be a good idea? i skipped roughly 30% of my grade 9 and 10 phys ed classes, and those were good years. atleast, grade 9 was. grade 10 was pre pandemic. i was still in good shape and even if some parts sucked, it was better then whats happening now. i miss the days of 40, 50 some kids all together and laughing. i miss the game where we ran in circles, holding hands, falling into a giggling pile of limbs. even i was helped up.
thats unfathmable today.
i didnt take a gym class in grade 11. the only option was in the afternoon, and i had better things going on then. you know that.
i knew, in the back of my mind, what the old classes did. one spent days spent above the gym lifting weights. the one i didnt want to do.
the others wanted to have fun they went rock climbing. they went golfing. they played ultimate frisbee downtown. go karting, just outside the city. rugby. cricket. tennis. four days a week. i remember a younger me, being told with wide eyes that one day, if i wanted it, it could be mine.
this is not how my senior year was supposed to go.
my phys ed class has 11 people in it. i am one of the lucky ones. the others are a group of 6. a far fucking cry from two years ago.
this is not what i signed up for. this is not what i signed up for. this is not what i signed up for.
i dont know the names of my teacher. she wasnt supposed to be my teacher. the real one had a kid two weeks ago. i dont know him either. they have promised workouts every day, and out of the school once a week. badminton. yoga. handball.
words ring in my ears while i run. i have fallen behind.
dont worry, that class is all fun stuff. you wont have to do this.
i have blistered feet. i have no friends. i have no air in my lungs. i feel a panic attack coming and this time i dont have a locker room wall to punch. i still have a scar, a deep grove in the second knuckle on my right hand. the last group couldnt use the locker room. they said it was too unsafe.
i dont bother doing the assignment when we get back. its not worth it. none of this is fucking worth it.
i see red when i leave. i go out a different door to try and smother it.
its cold out. it wasnt cold 20 minutes ago.
i wait to walk home. im still tired from a run i was promised i wouldnt have to do.
someone passes me wearing a mask.
i dont understand why i took a gym class.

What Are Some Of The Facilities UCD Has To Offer?
Tumblr media
I am in first year Commerce in UCD. Having come from a small secondary school, I am finding the transition very difficult. Have you any advice on making the most of what’s on offer in UCD?
UCD has a broad range of facilities on offer to its students. From one of its five main libraries, to its indoor climbing wall, there is something for everyone in University College Dublin.
LIBRARY
Tumblr media
In UCD there are five main libraries that all students are encouraged to make the most of, these include; James Joyce Library; Richview Library; Blackrock Library; Health Sciences Library; and Veterinary Library. All these libraries offer a wide range of books, as well as a quiet place for students to study for their exams or read their books. For students who need to buy books for their modules, UCD offers an on campus bookshop. This bookshop offers a wide variety of prescribed textbooks at some of the cheapest prices available. This bookstore only sells new books however. If you would rather buy second-hand books, the students union runs a second hand bookshop. This bookshop is located on the ground floor of the student union. Here, students can buy and sell all kinds of books.
Restaurants
I have heard students worry about the location of UCD due to the fact that it is not located in the center of Dublin City. It is true that if you attend UCD you may not have the the wide range of eateries that are available to students in ‘Trinity College Dublin’ or ‘Technological University of Dublin’. However, don’t let this put you off, there are still plenty of options on campus for the students of UCD to eat. The main restaurant in the Gerard Manley Hopkins Centre is open 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday. Here, students will have a wide range of food offered to them. For the health conscious student, there is a ‘Chopped’ salad bar also located in the Gerard Manley Hopkins Centre. If convenience is what you are looking for, there is also a ‘Subway’ in the Gerard Manley Hopkins Centre. Elsewhere around campus, ‘Pi’ Restaurant is located in the Science building, ‘Pulse Café’ is in the Health Science Building, and ‘Readers Deli’ is located underneath the James Joyce Library. As you can see, there are many places to eat for the UCD student, hence not being located in town should not be a cause for concern.
STUDENT CENTRE
Tumblr media
Students who attend UCD are lucky enough to have state of the art amenities available to them in the student centre. If they have a couple hours to spare, they can enjoy a movie in UCDs 3D cinema. The more artistic student could also attend one of the many great events of shows that are on offer in the brand new Drama Theatre. Here, numerous societies also put on an array of interesting and inspiring talks and seminars for their members. Societies are cheap and easy to join, and are a great way to meet new friends or learn a new hobby. Most importantly, the ‘Clubhouse Bar’ is also located in the student centre, a place that students can wind down over a couple of drinks or meet up with friends for a chat and to relax after a long week of college. The student bar is also another great place to get food on campus as they offer affordable meals to students seven days a week.
SPORT & FITNESS
Tumblr media
The Sport and Fitness Centre is really where UCD comes into a league of its own. This newly completed facility houses a number of top class facilities to interest every student. The brand new gym has an impressive array of equipment for the fitness fanatic. There is also personal training offered for the more nervous gym goer, and a wide range of classes throughout the day to accommodate for the busiest of students.  These classes range for high intensity ‘Body Pump’, to a far more relaxing Yoga class.
The sport facilities do not stop there. There is an indoor rock climbing wall for the adventurous type, two multi purpose sport halls and four squash courts. Outside, the amenities are even more impressive. There are six 5-aside soccer pitches, synthetic Rugby, Soccer and GAA pitches, five sand based tennis courts, 17 grass pitches, including the UCD bowl, and of course the National Hockey Stadium. As you can see, as a student in UCD, there is no shortage of facilities. Your time in UCD will fly by, so I would strongly advise to utilise the facilities while you can!

Sports Clubs and Activities for Kids in Bali
Learn more: http://www.parascientifica.com
Sports offer a plethora of benefits to all those who participate. As parents, it is an obligation to introduce sports to our kids at the early age. But what kind of sport and when should a child begin the sport depends on several things that parents need to consider carefully. Sometimes, it is wise to seek outside guidance. Here we have put together a list of sports available in Bali for parents to consider for their kids.
TRAMPOLINE
Parents love to watch their kids bouncing on trampolines. Not only for the fun part, but also because it offers many physical and health benefits. When kids jump up and down in the air, both sides of their brain and body work together to maintain coordination and balance, resulting in the development of their motor skills. This kind of exercise is perfect for kids who are not into sports activities. A trampoline gives them a chance to move their body for a few minutes, allowing their heart a great workout, without them even realising!
Tumblr media
Trampoline
At Junior Sports Academy, the fundamentals of trampoline work are taught along with techniques to maximise safety and enjoyment. Through the use of specialised coaching techniques and equipment, a child will learn to execute a variety of movements and how to effectively transition between skills. For beginners, they can learn the correct trampoline trick basics, such as jumping alignment, back and stomach drops, wall runs, twists, grabs, backdrop to backflip.
RUGBY
It takes guts for parents to sign up their kids to rugby practice. Put aside the dangerous part of the game (which technically every sports has) rugby is one of the best disciplines parents can offer to a child. Actually, it is not until high school that rugby becomes a full-body contact sport. It is not just to develop a discipline, rugby can also help develop concentration, tolerance and determination. Children will learn not to be selfish by playing as a team player. As in any sports, they are encouraged to play in a fair manner and respect the referees.
Tumblr media
Rugby practice at Junior Sports Academy is all about having fun with activities and games. Running every Wednesday from 4 PM to 5 PM for all ages, children will be supervised under the alert eye of the expert coaches. They also train participants at a professional level.
SOCCER
Ranked as the number one team sport in Indonesia, soccer is also popular amongst children. Playing soccer helps kids to improve cardiovascular health, strength and enhances flexibility, as well as to strengthen their core muscles which allows them to be more physically active. Since soccer is a team sport, your kids will also learn how to work together and communicate effectively in the field.
Tumblr media
Soccer
At Junior Sports Academy, the focus of the training is to develop technique, creativity, ball control and fast decision making during the game. However, for those kids below 6 years old, the class will be about having fun and learning to love soccer. In the intermediate class, children will learn the most fundamental skills in soccer, including passing, receiving, controlling, shooting and dribbling. To apply all the skills trained during the week, as well as to experience the competitive side of the sport, friendly matches will be organised every Sunday by inviting other soccer academies.
PARKOUR
It definitely scares parents to see their kids jumping and climbing over everything in the house. When they are introduced to parkour, which includes leaping from one rooftop to another and scaling tall buildings, it triples the fear. However, this sport is not simply about flipping or vaulting through urban environments, but it is also an art where children learn how to calculate risk and be cautious.
Tumblr media
Parkour
The original goal in parkour is to move through obstacles in the most efficient way possible. The experts believe that only 10% is the actual movements while the rest of the 90% is the education. Children will learn how to assess danger and fall properly without getting hurt. Parkourclasses at Junior Sports Academy aredesigned as a free running environment where coaches work the development skills of individuals. The minimum age to join the class is 8 years old.

GO KART
Speeding up on the asphalt track is not only for adults. If your kids have a passion for race cars, why not test their skills on Go-Kart. This activity can be a new and exciting experience for them. In Bali, Bali Speed Go-Kart provides the ultimate competitive driving platform for children with any skill levels. To be able to drive this 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine, your kids must be at least 10 years old and 140 centimetres tall.
Tumblr media
Go Kart
Some basic instructions will be provided, including how to handle the kart properly and the behaviour during the race. To maximise the safety of racing, helmets are available at no charge, as well as driving gloves and jacket. For a first-timer, it is advisable to ask the crew to reduce the maximum speed. This experience can be a bit scary, but rest-assured will also be both fun and easy.
TENNIS
This sport is accessible to all ages. However, how fast a child reacts the ball is a major observation for parents when deciding to introduce tennis to their kids. Parents should know that children need to have fun with their friends and playing games before they are ready to learn techniques in a one-on-one situation.
Tumblr media
Tennis
In order to develop junior players from beginner to advanced, the Finns' Junior Sports Academy Tennis Programme is categorically split into four levels: Red, Orange, Green and Yellow. The court sizes, rackets and tennis balls vary for each level with an objective to enable better learning by placing players of around the same ability together. To ensure the quality of each session, a maximum of 6 players are allowed per coach in any given class.

AQUALAND
Climb, glide, bounce, fall, jump, or splat – before finally getting wet – kids will find themselves having loads of fun at this Benoa water attraction. A sporting venue unique to Bali, Bali Wake Park has been calling beginner and pro wakeboarders as well as children to try out a flat-water trick, stick an obstacle or perhaps even just make it around the state of the art cable system built around a five-hectare lake. And to get the little ones even wetter is the park's Aqualand – a fun addition to the water excitement at Bali Wake Park.
Tumblr media
Aqualand
Once the kids are decked up with a life jacket, they'll be taken to a briefing session by the lake before you take to the water. A short swim later they'll arrive at the entrance (or rather starting point) of the Aqualand – there are a few, and you're free to choose one.
The Aqualand looks like something straight out of the TV show “Wipeout”. The only difference is that there's no one shooting at the children with water cannons to get them off the inflatable obstacles. With that being said, they'll most likely fall off entirely by their own means. Trying to stay dry is a hopeless cause here.
The floaties and obstacles are a lot of fun, but they really test the balance and strength of the little ones; there will be chances for kids to slip off the floaties and into the water. But don't worry, in case they're exhausted from falling off too often, the friendly staff will help the kids pull themselves back up. But no matter how often the children fall off, they'll enjoy clambering up onto the inflatables especially the larger ones such as the over eight-meter-high 'mountain'. Once on top, the next thing they have to decide is how they're going to get down again – slide or jump. Either way, they will be plunged into the water below in a fun way.
A session of Aqua Land is 50 minutes, and combo packages (Aqualand plus kneeboarding experience at Beginner Cable and/or wakeboarding at Full Cable System) are also available.

MUD WRESTLING
It is without a doubt that kids love to get dirty. Playing in the mud must be one of their favourites. A carefree attitude combined with some good old fashioned splashing around can offer plenty of fun and enjoyment to your kids – but have they tried the Balinese way?
Tumblr media
Mud Wrestling
In Bali, Bali Mepantigan Arts teaches children some techniques from Balinese martial arts which are performed in the muddy rice fields. The exciting part of this activity is they combine it with Balinese drama, contemporary dance and gamelan music to create an entirely new cultural phenomenon. To respect the Goddess of the Rice, participants must wear Tridatu Sarongs – a traditional Balinese clothing – during the fight. Mud wrestling will help children to increase physical fitness and release stress, while their emotional and spiritual intelligence are also utilised.

SKATEBOARDING
A skateboard is often a kid's first set of wheels. As part of western culture, skateboarding is considered cool amongst teenagers. Apart from increasing the social status, riding a skateboard promotes a healthy, outdoor lifestyle that requires perfect balance, leg strength and good stamina. If you are teaching your kids skateboarding, do not push them until they learn how to jump off the board. Walk next to them or get them gliding along with you. Children will do what you do, so make sure you put on helmet, elbow and knee pads on.
Tumblr media
Skateboarding
In Bali, you can cruise around in an enormous pump track and bowl with your skateboard at Amplitude Skatepark. Located in Kerobokan, the park presents the deepest skate bowl in Indonesia with a depth of 270 centimetres. Skate lessons are available every day between 10 AM to 6 PM by Amplitude School of Skate. The minimum age to join the class is 5 years old.
