The Tea Loaf, cooked and sampled. Reduced the sugar by just under half to 5 oz, and it is still sweet enough for me. 6 oz sultanas 5 oz dark soft brown sugar 1 orange 1/2 pint strong hot black tea 10 oz selfraising flour 1 medium egg * Mix the fruit and the orange juice and finely grated zest, add the hot tea and leave covered overnight. * Preheat the oven to 150 c. Grease a loaf tin or a pyrex dish. * Add the flour and a the egg, once beaten, to the wet mixture, stir and pour into the tin or dish. Bake. okay i see the reasoning but I don't really think it's appropriate to liken a teacake to a bap. a bap is savoury and a teacake is a teacake (sweeter bread with zest and currants and stuff). although, a teacake is just a bap-shaped tealoaf, so I guess you could go there with a stretch
