Trying my hand at pottery at the town's art studio. The one on the right is commercial, my 2 attempts are to the left, both with 3D printed lids gifted by a friend.

Modern Tribute to an Ancient Culture
Nature-centric minimalist interiors give way to a clutter-free expanse, playing majorly with light, inviting contemplation at this Tea Room designed by Ideorealm Design Studio. The idea is to mitigate external forces of stress and introspect, finding peace with oneself.https://www.indiaartndesign.com/a-modern-tribute-to-an-ancient-culture/

May 30th 2023: Tea Ceremony
Today I went to Shimbashi to experience a Tea ceremony. We went inside a Chashitsu, if you're not familiar it is essentially a traditional house that is specifically built to host tea ceremonies in Japan. We went inside and the guide explained the process of the tea ceremony while we waited for the tea master. Once the tea master arrived we were provided with hand-made Japanese sweets while the tea master was preparing our tea.
Once the tea was ready, it was served in a hand-crafted bowl. I was excited to know that the tea we were having was authentic Japanese matcha (抹茶). Personally, I love matcha and I would always drink matcha latte from Starbucks but never have I drank authentic matcha. When I tried the matcha it was unsweetened, slightly bitter and it had a thin texture. But overall, it was delightful experience.
Based on my experience and readings, although tea ceremonies used to be practiced only by men and tea ceremonies were originally for political gatherings and negotiations. Now, times has changed and how tea ceremonies are practiced changed as well. I was glad to see that the tea master in the ceremony I participated was a woman, since from what I learned tea ceremonies were dominated by men. However, according to the statistics bureau in Japan, 90 percent of women host tea ceremonies, hence, now tea ceremonies are not like they used to be, and fortunately, anyone can have the opportunity to experience this.
Additionally, based on the readings regarding the tea ceremony it was believed that with the fall of the Tokugawa military government in 1868 in the Edo period, tea ceremony faced extinction. However, this changed when women in the 1950 started to practice the culture of tea ceremony again. Now, millions host/participate in tea ceremonies today. And after being able to experience the tea ceremony first-hand, I am glad this is continued tradition in Japan.
