Tau cultural exchanges with the Imperium are probably why so many choose to fight for the Greater Good.

"Some Galgs state that the T'au gave their species new purpose and prevented them from wasting their potential, but others have organized as "freedom fighters" to overthrow T'au rule.  This suggests that the encounter with the T'au was accompanied by a split of the Galg species into opposing factions."
Galg are a strange species whose world is comprised of thick mangroves, flower-studded mountain ranges, and deep underground caverns rich in algal growths and heterotrophic fungi groves. A sharp cephalon and keel stand out amidst their six limbs, as the underside of the Galg leads to a sharp bill and rows of chemically sensitive tube feet.
The Imperium has learned better than to underestimate them, Tau aligned or Not.

MAYNOS EXTRICATION FORCE
The Ethereal Aun’Shar’s vitals are critical, and an emergency pulse from his armor has reached the fleet in orbit. The forces closest to the surface have been redirected to the vaults entrance, to combat the enemy signatures closing in on his last known position.

1. An infamous breacher team composed entirely of veterans who are wholly devoted to the greater good, all from different septs. Every member dons black armor, with a single color marking of the sept they originally hail from on their pauldron. When a fire warrior joins Death Company, they relinquish their name, instead only answering to the serial number given to them. Their serial numbers are given in the order members join, starting at DC-1, the current newest recruit was assigned DC-107. Before entering combat, the members of the company all perform a unique Ta’lissera ritual, all impaling their non-dominant hands upon the ritual blade. With Tau physiology, one can survive such a wound for 7 hours before dying of blood loss if not treated by a medic. In essence, by joining Death Company, its members are already considered dead, and have nothing holding them back from sacrificing all for the greater good. Many members are the sole survivors of a squad registered as KIA, some just have nothing left to lose, and some see joining as a way of becoming a part of something greater. The mortality rate of Death Company averages at 92% over their 20 missions, but they rarely fail their objectives, and fight with a ferocity not even seen in the Vior’la. The members of Death Company are known to be silent and focused, having already made their peace with their fate, all that is left for them is a glorious death for the cause.

The Red Tri-Wings are a crisis team comprised of three renegade Air Caste pilots who were wounded after their aircraft were destroyed in the battle raging above Maynos. While their injuries rendered them unable to effectively pilot an aircraft, they found that controlling an XV8 battlesuit requires less manual dexterity thanks to the neuralink connection the machinery uses. Not waiting for an official transfer, the pilots attached the battlesuits to the top of an Orca dropship and provided fire support in order to allow it to break through the blockade forming around Maynos. In the 3 hours that they have been in service as a crisis team, the Red Tri-Wings already have 7 confirmed kills, all before making planetfall. Current radar scans indicate that they are now free falling through the atmosphere of Maynos, using their battlesuit’s thrusters to perform mid-air jinking maneuvers in their descent, returning fire on enemy aircraft who think they’ve found an easy target.

3. Fogbreaker squadron has sent two of their Tetras ahead of their main force. While the majority of the squadron aren’t projected to reach the battle until it is well under way, these nimble craft are fast enough to rendezvous with allied forces before the enemy engages them.

Currently painting my first Tau (T'au, T-au, T...au, T au, T/au, T*au, T&au, whatever they're calling them now) model.
It's a coldstar commander with a lot of kitbashing. It's not going well.

Complete: Farsight Enclaves/ Mu’gulath Bay Boarding Patrol
Tumblr media
Hello everyone, I have been hard at work on a new project to give myself a chance to paint something other than purple. The new Boarding Actions missions and the Arks of Omen storyline is honestly been really inspiring for what I would want to do narratively with some of my smaller forces. I know so far I have posted two space marines, but I am in my heart, a Xenos player. Tau was actually my first army, and I think even though I am proud of a lot of these, you can tell looking at these I have improved.
Still, for fun a little background on my Tau. See the majority of them are decendants of those who fought the imperium for the sept world of Mu’Gulath Bay, or Agrellan as it was known. Mu’Gulath Bay however, was destroyed in frustration by the Imperium as they retreated back across the Damocles Gulf. So a rivalry and hatred of the Imperium was stoked within them, but that did not sway them from the Greater Good. That happened, once Commander Shas’O Dal’Yth Por’Karra or “Commander Clearwater” was placed in charge.
Tumblr media
Clearwater is a veteran of two major wars, the Damocles Gulf Crusade, and the horror of the 4th Sphere of Expansion. Within these two events, he was taught many lessons, and one of the greatest, is that humanity cannot be trusted.
It was this, and seeing the fire in the hearts of his new Cadre, that led him to rebellion, fleeting to join the Farsight Enclaves. The forces of Dal’Yth remain in hot pursuit, ready to bring him to justice for crimes against the Empire.
However, with the reveal of the accursed Arks of Omen appearing all over the universe. Clearwater and his breakaway forces were faced with a number of strange signals, one of which was identified as a T’au beacon. This signal was eerily familiar to Clearwater, who insisted that all forces be diverted to answer this call, as it matched the signature of the ship he led into the 4th Sphere of Expansion.
Tumblr media
Which, is the sneak peek into the next project I want to do. See the new Boarding action game looks a lot of fun, but the terrain is like, SUPER expensive. so I am making, in the spirit of Xenos lovers, a non-imperium Space Hulk board.
Tumblr media
See, the walls and floor are based off the game “Fire Warrior” which had an interior spaceship level.
Tumblr media
Its not going to be a perfect match, and I am learning I cannot cut straight edges to save my life, however I think the cramped, broken, demonically fused corridors of a Space Hulk, give the perfect example for why things don’t line up perfectly like on a Tau spaceship.
The Board took up most of my hobby time since the last post, and I have had that collection of Tau mostly done for a while now, they just needed some highlights on the Crisis Suits, along with the insane amount of Freehanding I decided to do, since I wanted each squad to get its own markings.

Maube its a hot take, but conceptually Tau are brilliant. I will even go as far as to say that they are one of the most important factions in wh40k, second perhaps only to the Imperium of Man.
Because obviously Imperium is the ""protagonist"" of 40k. I don't even think this is a point that needs defending. If you could say that 40k, as a whole, has a narrative at all then it is about the Imperium.
And what Tau do simply by existing as they are is complete that narrative.
At the point in 40k in-universe history that could be considered ""right now"", our POV time frame so to say, the Tau are a new, starry-eyed, fresh out of their cradle-world, still growing, galaxy conquering empire. They are on the rise, seemingly idyllic by the 40k standards but not really, etc etc.
In other words, ""right now"" the Tau civilization isn't even in its "Great Crusade" phase yet, but in its "Dark Age of Technology" phase. And such is the nature of the universe in wh40k, that they'll eventually have their own Age of Strife too, probably several. Maybe even a crisis to rival the Horus Heresy or a fuck up to rival Birth of Slanesh. It will just probably be mere another couple of thousands of years until then, but it is inevitable.
We know this because their current ascend maps perfectly onto the stories of the Imperium before them, and Aeldari before them, and Necorntyr before them.
And the way it completes Imperium is by dethroning Humanity as the newest species in space. Imperium casually deploys weapons to battle that are older than not just the Tau civilization, but their very species, maybe their planet even.
Tau bring into the universe a perspective from which the Imperium is a cruel, unknowable and unfathomably ancient empire that ruled the galaxy once, in the times before time. A status in which Imperium is one with Eldar and Necron.
And it does it because in the universe of neverending war Humanity was never special and never will be. Humans in all their grand, brilliant, ultimately inconsequential glory are just another kind of little thing to die painfully and meaninglessy among space dust. Their galaxy wide empire doomed to rot for near eternity, having achieved nothing but their own suffering, having changed nothing at all. There were many like this before them, and there will be many more in the future. The Cruel Universe doesn't care. It doesn't even notice.
That is the message of War Hammer 40 000. That is why Tau are fucking cool.
