Beatles insiders comparing John and Paul's relationship to a marriage/couple
“That’s [John and Paul's relationship] very hard to delve into. They were great friends, and had great mutual respect, but they were also quite different from one another. I don’t know. Human relationships are tough to analyze. It’s like trying to talk about someone else’s marriage.” — Peter Asher
"Paul and John kind of knew that they were growing apart, and Let It Be was almost like a marriage that’s failing, and they wanna go on their date nights again" — Giles Martin
"It's like a marriage. These two broke up. And it took Paul a long time to get over it. John too, but he was just too macho to show it. But they had a marriage before Yoko arrived, although they both had girlfriends before." —Ray Connolly
"Julian and Sean had lost a father; Cynthia, her knight in shining armour; Yoko, a fellow artist, contemporary and house husband … and Paul? Well, call me crazy, but he lost the wife. I’m certainly not implying anything of a carnal nature here, but to almost all intents and purposes (as John would have put it), what they had was a marriage.” — Ruth McCartney
"When John and Paul split up (think of them as a couple for a moment) their second mates had to stand by them." —Francie Schwartz
“I still think at the back of John’s mind was this fascination of wanting to get back with the first girlfriend, if you like, and that was to get back with Paul, who he had so much history with.”—Tony Barrow
“I think it was like he was married to Paul. And now he was married to me so it was like a situation that he didn’t feel like he wanted to go back." —Yoko Ono

Lords and Ladies, my official breakdown of Now and Then and Thots in general that no one asked for
The everything about this starting from the songs origin (or how paul received it rather) blows my mind. It had “for paul” written on it, not for yoko or sean or julian or cynthia but paul. that was the last gift from john he got
You can tell that Paul has thought about this song biweekly since 1980
It’s Johns final message to Paul and The Beatles’ final message to its fanbase OUCH
The finality of it all REALLY gets to me sorry to be upset on main guys
John and Paul harmonizing for the first time in almost 70 years and it’s over the lines “know i love you” “i miss you” “i want you to be there for me”
The original Now and Then is haunting and so melancholy and our new version is more reminiscent to me but they’re both full of longing and yearning and they want each other so bad
George’s guitar 🥹 you can tell Paul wanted to pay tribute to not just John but George too
More on george because i feel like we aren’t talking about him enough ! Ofc it’s a John song but ALL THE BEATLES are on it and it’s like them refined. idk to me it feels like this is something we would’ve gotten in a world where George and John are both still alive and they wanted to all make one final song together
I really feel like this will be the catalyst for Paul to open up to the public more about the true nature of his feeling for John, it’s so intense and this is the first time we’ve witnessed him reminisce on John in such a raw way

Honestly I’m still so baffled by that person who shamed me for being a John Lennon fan and hating on Yoko because
1. I’m not a John fan, and he’s my least favorite Beatle actually
2. But at least John had actual real talent and he didn’t fuck his way to fame, because if you don’t think that’s exactly what Yoko was all about you are Delusional
3. Also, John admitted to his faults and actively took steps to be a better person and take care of his mental health however he could. Yoko never did - and never gave a fuck about improving as a person.
4. “Yoko was not an abuser!” Well, she pushed him to get addicted to heroin, manipulated him into not talking to Paul and into abandoning Julian, which is arguably worse than anything John ever did.
5. Everything Yoko does is for her own benefit and she’s ruined several projects because she needed to be at the center of it, and I’m not talking about her being in the studio for Let It Be. I’m talking about her meddling into all the business post-breakup and after John’s death. Not to mention how she didn’t allow any of John’s family, Cynthia and Julian to be there for his funeral. That is unforgivable. She fucking FORBADE HIS FAMILY not just from seeing him, but also even from saying goodbye. Fuck Yoko and fuck you if you defend her.
That person also called me a misogynist… no, I’m just an enemy to narcissistic abusers, which she absolutely is. Matter of fact, I’m team Cynthia, Julian and Sean first (because it’s not Sean’s fault that his mother is a fucking evil cunt), team May Pang second, team John third and I’m not team Yoko at all. I love and care for John’s wife, children and fling more than i love him. Is that still misogyny, fucker? No it’s not. Fuck you. And you can’t call me racist either because May Pang is Asian just as much as Yoko is, and I have a lot of respect for May. She did more for John’s mental health in a week than Yoko might have done in 10 years, and she was the superior choice for him. Unfortunately he was so hooked on drugs and on the harmful “therapies” she got him into that he became unable to be himself for a real long time. That’s manipulation at its finest.

Hear me out..kay?
'70s John Lennon with younger female home assistant reader getting into a lil dispute because John thinks he let himself go after the Beatles broke up, but the reader believes otherwise and it ends up in the two of them having passionate/slightly rough sex because he's more or so angry with himself than anything? And the two of them are really close too, like John allows her to watch Julian and Sean when he's at the studio or on business trips?? And the two boys genuinely like her???
(a universe where he isn't married to yoko ((no hate intended)) and is single and happy that way..)
Oh my god, I love this idea! 70s john is so pretty. I love how he looks as he gets older. it’s like fine wine. Some of the ages might not add up but we’ll call this an AU for the sake of consistency!
Warnings: Some smudges of angst, smut, insecurities, language
Also it got WAY longe than I expected so i got a little carried away.
Tumblr media
As John slept, he dreamt he sat perched on a throne made bones. It overlooked a high cliff that faced the ocean where the wind burned his face and he could hear seagulls screaming in the background.
He was alone. For once he wished he had the screaming crowds and bandmates calling his name. But only the shrieking gulls filled his ears.
The dream seemed to go on for two lifetimes and the atmosphere felt staticky as the waves repeatedly crashed against the shores and hit the rocks. At times he could feel the soft kiss of saltwater sprinkling against his face.
He blinked for the first time in what felt like ages and suddenly his throne of bones began to collapse, he grasped at them panicked as he desperately tried to prevent himself from falling. Just as his footing slipped John shot up in his bed breathing heavily. He blinked to clear the bleariness that had settled from sleep and palmed his bedside table for his glasses and crudely wiped them on his sheets to clear the fingerprints before slipping them on.
Suddenly the room was clear, and the sound of gulls was replaced with Sean’s squealing laughter. It helped John feel grounded in his brief moment of panic. He sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes, Christ, what did he have to do today again? John ran his fingers through is knotted hair and slipped out of his bed. Right, he had to do several interviews to promote his new album and single that was just released then he had a dinner party. He grimaced at the thought of having to sit for several hours with a group of yuppies and pretend to enjoy their conversation.
As John walked through is bedroom he slipped on a pair of slippers and his dressing gown before stopping in front of his full length mirror. He gave his belly a firm pat, he’d lost a significant amount of weight in the last five years, mostly from depression, but it was still a small victory in his eyes. Atleast he had that going for him.
The bedroom door open and John found himself lured to the kitchen by the smell of syrup and pancakes. He flashed you a tight-lipped smile, “You’re early.” He greeted you.
You shrugged your shoulders, not looking up from the batter as you poured it into the skillet, “I know I thought my exam was going to take much longer than it did.” You said sheepishly. John had been gracious enough to accept you as his assistant and sometimes nanny. He was nice and the job helped you learn a lot about public relations and management, which is what you had hoped to do after you’d graduated from university.
“Do you want some pancakes? Sean helped with them.” You said waving the ladle towards John.
He shrugged, still groggy from sleep. He really didn’t want any, but the way Sean stared at him with his big black eyes begging changed his mind. He sighed after his idle moment in thought and nodded his head, “I suppose I should see what the little chief has made for us.” He smiled and ruffled the kid’s hair.
After breakfast John rushed to get ready, “And you’re okay with taking Julian to piano lessons? Remember Sean still needs to finish that cough medicine from his cold earlier last week, and they can’t stay up past-” he rushed out his of things that he now only worried about due to having children.
You placed your hand on John’s arm and gave him a look, “John I’ve worked with you for almost three years, I think I can handle a day of babysitting. Julian will get to piano lesson on time and Sean will get his medicine; and don’t worry I won’t give them any sugar past 6pm.” John chose to ignore the little wink you gave Julian and Sean from the other side of the room.
He let out a sigh and his shoulders relaxed, “I know, I just” Worry I’m not good enough, his intrusive thoughts echoed in his mind and he shook his head before sharply inhaling, “I just worry about them, you know how it is.” You didn’t, you weren’t a parent. But you understood a little bit with where he was coming from.
You gave John a sympathetic nod and patted his shoulder, “Go on, you’re going to be late for the interview.” You said and turned him, pushing him towards the door.
A small smile settled on John’s face, it didn’t matter if he left for 8 hours or a full week, he still gave you the same reminders and the same list when Yoko or Cynthia couldn’t take the kids. John rushed out the door and you turned towards the boys and grinned at them. They were both nice, Julian had a wee bit of an attitude, but you chocked it up to him being in double digits while Sean was a curious and surprisingly even-tempered boy.
You made sure Julian got to and from piano lessons okay and wrestled with Sean to take the last dose of his medication, bribing him with some cookies. The remainder of the afternoon and evening you watched a movie with them, walked in the park, and drew pictures of the cats.
At lunch time John called to check in on the boys and to let you know it was going to be a late night, after reassuring him everything was fine you resumed your conversation with Sean about some fabulous story he was making up.
John sat at the dinner party, poking at his food and listening to his scientist friend tell them about a fancy new machine they got at work. The autoclave used immense amounts of heat and pressure to sterilize items, nothing survived the autoclave. In that moment John decided he saw some of his own likeness in the machine. As the voices turned to mumbles and John fell deep into thought he found that his own heart was harsh an inhospitable, much like the machine. That was why he was mostly alone in his 17-room apartment in New York City. His two wives couldn’t even make his home their home, and when he received a phone call from Cynthia or Yoko saying they were coming to pick the children up or to send them home on the morrows next fight he couldn’t say it struck him by surprise.
As the evening grew late you put Sean to bed and then an hour later you sent Sean to bed, much to your surprise neither of the boys fought with you tonight over why it was unfair they had different bedtimes or how they should be allowed to stay up later because it was summertime.
Infomercials from the television droned in your ears and lulled you to sleep as you sprawled out on the couch. A hand touching your shoulder caused you to jump and you blinked before John came into focus, “I’m home, you can stay the night in the guest room. It’s too late for you to go home alone.” He said kindly.
You rubbed your eyes and groggily sat up, “How did the meetings go today?” You asked after a deep yawn.
John’s face scrunched up, the way it did when he was frustrated and deep in thought, “It was alright.” He shrugged.
“What do you mean alright? You just released a new single, no one had an opinion on it?” You asked as you made your way through one of the many long hallways that made up his Dakota apartment.
John followed you, hoping for conversation and company, “I don’t know, I must have termites in me brain or something.” He frowned leaning against the door of the bathroom and watching you rummage through the cabinet for your spare toothbrush. Your movements moved on memory and you pushed aside the antacids and ibuprofen to get to the toothbrush you kept in the back of the medicine cabinet. The familiarity in your actions made John feel comforted.
“what do you mean?” You asked before you began brushing your teeth. You watched as John shifted, leaning against the door jam. He felt uncomfortable. You could tell.
He looked away from you, “I’m washed up I suppose.” He dug his shoe into the grout of the bathroom tile, “No one wants to listen to a former Beatle without the other three.” John wanted to open up to you but his body felt like an unstable bag of foam and bones and his ability to speak clearly vanished.
You spat out your toothpaste and wiped the remainder off with the towel that hung on the wall, “Oh come off it,” You scolded him, “You don’t mean that do you?”
Now it was your turn to follow John as he walked through the house, kicking his shoes off and tossing his jacket to the side, “That’s how it seems.” He chewed on the inside of his cheek, “Every time I talk to one of these hokey television people, they just rub it in me face how successful Paul or George are doing.” He frowned, “And I’m just sitting here, a one hit wonder. No songs in the last five years.” He tugged open the door to his wardrobe and pulled out sleeping cloths and tossed them onto the bed, “Paul’s got his 87 children, and his new better band. What do I have?” His cheeks started turning red and his thick brows furrowed.
You listened to him complain about his imperfections, he obviously needed to get them off his chest, “John,” You said softly interrupting his monologue, “You don’t mean that.” You bluntly said.
John looked away from you and huffed loudly, “First I get called the fat Beatle, then I get torn to shreds for saying one thing about Christianity and now I can’t even write a damn song anymore.” He angrily pulled his shirt over his head, “If I can’t even write a damn song what use am I?” He continued to mumble to himself and tug the thin and worn sleep shirt over his head and stuck his arms through the hole.
You walked forward and boldly grabbed John’s wrist as he reached for his lounge pants, “Stop it,” You said in the same tone of voice you used to scold one of the children, “I don’t want to hear you say bad things about yourself that aren’t true.” Your brows knit together as John turned to look at you.
His eyes narrowed to little slits as he studied your face. John felt as though the throne of fame he once sat upon was now crumbling, much like in his dream “You’re just an assistant, you don’t know anything.” He said coldly and shrugged you off.
You know he didn’t mean it, but the words stung, “Yeah, I’m just your assistant who watches your kids, and takes them to piano lessons, and does your laundry, and brings you take away when you are too sad to leave your room.” You shot back.
Your words hit John like a 10-ton truck, and he looked at you shocked, none of his assistants had ever been this bold before. They all cowered beneath the mighty John Lennon, but you were different. Your tongue was just as sharp as his, and he hated to admit it; but he liked the way your brows furrowed, and your eyes ignited with fire every time you argued back at him. He wanted to get a rise out of you, so he pushed you, “I pay you for it, don’t go around thinking you’re special. I could post your job in the paper and have hundreds of college kids lining up to work for me.” He hissed stepping towards you.
You were backed into a wall, literally and figuratively, you felt at a loss for words. John was right and you both knew it, what was the worst that could happen if you pushed back a bit? “Do it, I dare you.” You scoffed and moved to push past him, “Surprised anyone would like to work for a washed-up Beatle.” You mumbled under your breath knowing that he would hear you.
John brought his arm up and pushed you back into your spot between the wall and pushed his lips against yours. It was hard and messy; your teeth clicked together, and your noses knocked. It took a moment for you to realize what was happening until John roughly shoved his knee between your legs. You let out a whimper feeling him pull away and start leaving hot open-mouthed kisses along your jaw and trailing down to your neck. Your chest heaved against him and you swallowed thickly, and you desperately tried to focus as he continued to latch onto your neck, sucking and biting at the sensitive skin, “John.” You whined and ground yourself against his thigh.
He loved how you practically purred his name as you spoke. John’s hands pushed down on your hips, helping you as you slid against his thigh with wanton need. Your breathy sighs sent a shiver that crept down his spine and settled in his belly, “We can stop, just say it and I’ll stop.” He said rubbing his nose along your jaw.
You swallowed thickly, “Please don’t,” You didn’t want to go back now.
John pulled away and pulled you by your wrist before pushing you back onto the bed. You bounced back against the plush large mattress and laid against the pillows and watched as John knelt between your legs. He rubbed his hands along your thighs and kissed you’re the skin that had become exposed from your shirt riding up and pushed it up more. He sucked and left kitten licks as he exposed more of you stomach and chest, kissing between your breasts and sucking at the soft skin on the sides.
John peeled your shirt off and in one swift movement your breasts were exposed and your top and underclothes tossed aside. He dove against your neck again, deepening the marks he’d already left prior and adding new ones, nipping at the skin and inhaling your scent. You reached your fingers and laced them in his soft long hair. You’d always wondered how it felt and how it smelt. You found yourself burying your nose into the side of his head and breathing deeply. He smelled like stale smoke, the gum he always chewed as a nervous habit, and like his eucalyptus shampoo. It made your brain feel dizzy.
Your legs wrapped around John’s narrow hips and pulled him flush against you. He groaned feeling your heat against his awakening erection and ground against you. he felt like he was 18 again, sneaking home some blurry faced bird through the back door at Mimi’s after coming home too late. But this felt better, it wasn’t some random company for the night; it was you.
The assistant he hired on a whim because he needed someone to watch Sean while he flew to LA for recording, the same person who folded his laundry, the first person he told of his divorce from Yoko. Even in his dream as he stood alone on the edge of the cliff as his throne collapsed, he knew if he called your name you would come.
Now, here he was; swallowing your moans eagerly in his mouth and listening as you left ragged breathy gasps in his ear as he ground against you. His hands fumbled with the buttons on your pants before he finally gave up and pulled them open, the small button popping off and bouncing to the other side of the room. John kissed your hips and along the lower half of your stomach and it twitched.
You squirmed, looking down and seeing his intently focused face as he yanked down your underwear and jeans and carelessly tossed them aside. You suddenly became aware of your nakedness as you stared down at John, fully clothed in a loose sleep shirt and the pants he wore today. Your eyes trailed his body and you sat up, tugging at his shirt. Your movements were hesitant and less confident than his. John’s hands guided his shirt up and he tugged it off, throwing it to join the rest of your discarded cloths and you ran a hand along his chest. Admiring the freckles and imperfections that made him distinctly human. He pulled back and shrugged his pants off and resumed his spot between your legs, pushing you back down.
John kissed the sides of your knees and made his way up your thighs, “Is this okay?” He murmured.
You shivered feeling his lips moving against your legs and nodded your head, urging him to continue. The pit of nervousness that settled in your belly violently vanished as you felt John’s hot tongue swipe between your folds and lap at you, “Jesus Christ,” You gasped out.
You could feel John smirk as he hooked his arms under your legs and pulled you close. He spread you apart, groaning and rubbing your clit with his thumb, “Has anyone ever done this to you before?” He asked glancing up at you.
You swallowed thickly and shook your head, “N-no,” You choked out.
John hummed acknowledging your answer and licked at your core again, taking his time to trace lazy shapes around the bundle of nerves. It sent a tingle that rang through your whole body, from the tips of your toes to your fingers and you desperately reached for John’s hair to keep him in place.
Your toes curled and you pressed John’s face closer against you and bucked your hips, grinding against his face. He groaned and pressed back, pulling you closer against his face. The plug between your brain and mouth disconnected and your mind felt like it was swimming. The string in your stomach tightened as you continued to grind against John’s tongue as he lapped at you. Your soft breathy sighs climbed in pitch before it snapped and your hips squirmed against him. John firmly held you down and he harshly rubbed your clit. The burning sensation caused your toes to curl, your eyes to blissfully shut, and made your legs shake. Your hips tried to jerk away from his hand, but he held you down, watching you writhe, jaw hanging slightly ajar.
“St-op” You choked out and gripped his wrist, letting out a sob as he pushed you to your peak once again. Your chest heaved and your legs shook as it washed through you. You curled into yourself and your face scrunched up.
John left you no room to breathe as he pulled your face close to his and captured your mouth in an open mouth. His tongue explored your mouth and you could taste yourself. You gripped at his forearms and pulled him back down, thumbing his briefs and tugging them down. John smiled against your mouth as he wiggled out of them, twisting his legs and shifting before he finally gave up and broke your kiss for a moment to tug them the rest of the way down.
You reached to kiss him and frowned as he pulled away, settling between your legs and rubbing his cock teasingly between your wet folds before he pushed in. You gasped, feeling John stretch you as his pelvis pushed against the back of your legs. He sat there for a moment and his face reached up and cupped yours as he hovered just inches away from your face.
You brought your hand up and placed it on John’s, his thumb traced your bottom lip and he slowly moved his hip, pushing deep inside you. Your mouth fell open and you let out a soft moan. John eagerly took the opportunity to slip his thumb into your mouth and pushed harder into you as your lips wrapped around it.
John’s hands gripped your hips as his picked-up speed, pulling them against him and making your skin slap together. He fell over you and you wrapped your arms around him pulling his body close to yours. His head fell next to your shoulder and he messily kissed up your shoulder and up to the side of your mouth before you captured his. Your kiss lacked tact and was only motivated by wanton need for each other. Your teeth clanked harshly together, and you clung to John as though he would vanish from you in an instant.
John broke the kiss and latched onto your neck once again, nipping at the skin and leaving a lingering and dull pain as he continued his trail before settling near your ear. John’s grunts and soft breathy sighs were perhaps the best sound’s you’d ever heard. In that moment you didn’t care that your bodies stuck together with sweat, or that your head kept bumping against the headboard.
You found yourself reaching for John and whimpering as he pulled away and hooked his arms under your knees and brought them up, leaning onto you and pushing deeper inside you. Your back arched off the mattress as he pulled back and began to slowly rut deep inside you.
John clenched his teeth together and hissed, feeling your walls twitching around him as he continued his languid pace, “Please,” You said softly, your brows knit together and your eyes looking helplessly up at him.
His lips spread into a knowing smirk, “Please what?” His voice sounded ragged and strained as he continued to tease you.
“More please,” You barely recognized the whiny tone of your voice.
“Yeah?” He asked and harshly snapped his hips against yours, “Like that?” He asked snapping them again. The headboard lightly tapped the wall as John’s thrusts grew harder and faster while your staccato moans followed jointly. John watched you, your mouth hanging open and skin shiny from the combination of his and your sweat that coated your body. He felt more human in this moment than he’d felt in a long time.
John’s brows knit together, and his thighs clenched, he didn’t want this to end. You pulled his arms and pulled him close to you, not caring if it seemed like you were being clingy, “Come inside me,” You breathed out next to his ear.
John’s body seized up and he huffed out a shaky haggard breath before he came, holding you close against his body and riding out the high that fogged over his senses.
For a moment he laid on top of you, softening inside you but enjoying the intimate closeness the two of you shared in your post coital haze. John kissed your shoulder before pulling back and kissing your lips. He pulled back and the two of you smiled at each other.
“Hi.”
“Hey.”
You couldn’t help but turn your head and breath out a small laugh before John rolled over to your side. The two of you laid on top of his wrinkled duvet staring at each other. You pursed your lips and remembered what you said earlier, “I didn’t mean it, what I said.” You said sheepishly looking away.
John’s expression was soft as he looked at you, “I’m sorry for what I said, I didn’t mean it either.” He said his arm now resting on your shoulder. He pulled you against his bare chest and you pushed your knee between his legs, entangling your bodies together as John held you.

What frustrates me about Sean is that he doesn’t acknowledge that Yoko hurt people. He’s talked about John’s anger and mood swings. You said he’s protective of his mother and regurgitating the ballad narrative is what makes her happy and is respectful to her wishes, however it doesn’t hold her accountable for her behaviour. Sean has said publicly that Julian hurt Yoko, but he doesn’t say that Yoko hurt Julian too. Yoko was hardly encouraging John with his relationship with Julian, denies Julian an inheritance forcing him to take her to court & she actively tried to sabotage Julian’s “Photograph Smile” album release in 1998. Even Sean’s girlfriend has publicly trashed talked Julian & Cynthia on Instagram in defence of Yoko. I don’t expect him to say anything negative or disrespectful about her but just to acknowledge the hurt that she caused so as to not invalidate Julian’s experience. I know it must’ve been very difficult for him when they were fighting.
I get what you're saying, but I guess he doesn't really think that's his job or something he needs to do? He's her son before any of the business stuff (though it's all jumbled up anyway) and it would have hurt him to see his mother face the backlash when Julian gave that series of angry interviews expressing his frustrations, and I'm sure all the history of bitter fans and offensive press have influenced how he approaches anything related to his parents when he's in the public realm.
Julian and Sean have had very different upbringings and lives despite that mighty connection, and as friendly and close as they are I don't think it can sway his loyalty, admiration and love for his mother and how he represents The Lennon Estate and Yoko herself. I do not know what goes on behind the scenes, but I think it's been important for all parties in the last 20ish years or so to be cordial and friendly to soothe all things business related but also calm down the fans who will hold up their pitchforks for anyone who dared hurt or control John Lennon.
Ultimately, as far as the public is concerned, fences have been mended so why bring up past hurts? Just my thoughts, but idk.

parts of cynthia’s book, John, that hit me in the heart
after they hooked up for the first time john asked “what are you doing tomorrow, and the next day, and the next” and cynthia said “seeing you.”
john bought instant tan when it first came out and tried it with cynthia. they both looked awfully yellowed and giggled about it
at their wedding when the priest asked for the groom to step forward george did
john wanted to get married
after they got married john said it felt like walking with odd socks on and she knew what he meant
“well, mrs lennon, how does it feel being married?”
john was always paranoid about being shot bc a letter came in the mail from a psychic saying he would be shot in the states
when julian was born he had tears in his eyes and said “Cyn, he’s bloody marvelous! he’s fantastic.” and he held julian’s baby hands with a big smile.
John loved watching Julian at bath time and would cuddle him before bed
when cynthia was finally confirmed as john’s wife john said; “you should never have had to hide, cyn.”
john loved shopping and would get excited and end up buying julian loads of toys. even ones that he wouldn't be able to play with at his age.
he would buy cynthia lingerie that were extravagant and would dance with her
julian once assembled a complicated toy and john was ecstatic saying; “that’s my boy! I couldn't have done that myself!”
in august 1965 he sent a letter to cynthia about how much he loved julian and awful he felt about being awful from him all the time and that he wanted to just be a good father for him
john’s favorite treat was Rice Krispies
when john confessed he’s cheated multiple times and cynthia said “that’s okay.” and john put his arms around her and said, “you're the only one I've eve loved, cyn. I still love you and I always will.”
yoko stalked them and harassed john
cynthia would always ask about yoko later on and john once said, “it’s you I love cynthia. I love you now more than I ever have before.”
john wouldn't talk to cynthia over their divorce bc he hated confrontations
when john and her split paul came to see her and brought a red rose. “how about it, cyn?” he said when offering that the two of them got married
john and yoko came to a party cynthia hosted and yoko tried to talk to her and compliment how well julian was raised. only days after she complained about how julian was raised. cynthia suspected it was to look good in front of company.
after avoiding cynthia for a long time john finally sat down and talked to her once. she said it was like they were finally becoming friends again.
“julians a lovely boy. I can't believe how grown up he is. he's not a little boy anymore. I can really talk to him now.” -john
cynthia liked may pang
john once told julian he hated is life and still to this day julian is insecure about it
when John died yoko made julian help her tell sean about it. and when explaining it they said the man who killed him would go to court. sean said, “do you mean a basketball court or a tennis court?”
julian said when he entered yoko’s room after John;s death she was calm and collected. and asked him if he wanted her to show him the steps john died on.
before julian went back to england yoko asked if he wanted one of john’s guitars. he asked for the one guitar he really liked and yoko said no.
john wrote in his will that he wanted julian to have his notebooks and yoko never gave it to him
cynthia received letters from a psychic after john’s death saying that john regretted the way he ended their relationship
john once told julian, “if anything ever happens to me, look for a white feather and you'll know I'm there, looking out for you.”
any time cynthia saw a white feather she thought of john

what's your opinion on the Yoko Julien stuff? Like how she treated him after John died
I have no definitive judgement of it, to be honest. Julian (and Cynthia) would’ve, ideally, been treated with the utmost kindness after John’s death, and their relationship with Yoko would’ve been better. That was not the case. However, Yoko also experienced great trauma after witnessing her husband’s death, and her relationship with John’s first family was not very close. @withthebeatlesgirls smade an excellent post on this here: X. I agree with a lot of what they say, and the screenshots from Sean’s Twitter are telling.
I recently found a Reddit comment on this subject that I found interesting, please read all. Credit to /u/texum for the fantastic write-up. (Link to original thread).
Oh, neat, a bunch of hearsay that's been proven wrong.
>Yoko made Julian, John's first born son, buy back his letters from his deceased father.
This isn't true. First of all, they weren't letters, they were postcards. As Julian wrote in his book Beatles Memorabilia: The Julian Lennon Collection:
>"I had to buy all the postcards back. It's more than likely that when we [he and his mother] moved house stuff got lost or somebody would steal something."
He lost them in a move in England with his mother, some collector got them, and Julian bought them back at auction. John and Yoko never had them--the book reproduces photos of all the postcards and you can clearly see the UK postmarks on all of them. They're all dated 1971 or after, and John never set foot in the UK after that, and neither did Yoko until years after John died.
But at the same auction Julian bought these postcards, he also bought a sheet of recording notes for the song "Hey Jude" that had once been in the possession of Yoko. The recording notes are also reproduced in the same Memorabilia book. These notes had been in a suitcase of memorabilia owned by Mal Evans which Mal's book publisher had lost after Mal died. They turned up in the New York book publisher's basement about 15 years later, and the publisher gave them to Yoko to return to Mal's family, which she did. Mal's family then sold all the memorabilia at auction, and Julian bought those "Hey Jude" notes. Later interviewers conflated the two events, and Julian didn't bother to set the record straight, but if you notice Julian's wording in those interviews, he always carefully sidesteps the accusation that he actually bought the postcards from Yoko. He just says he's been using his father's money to buy his father's things back at auction.
If you think about it for two seconds, it's never made any sense: how would John have postcards he sent to Julian if Julian lived in the UK and John lived in the US? The answer is, he didn't. Julian received them, lost them, and then ended up buying them back from a collector at auction.
>John's will left nothing to Cynthia and Julian, and Yoko...fights him in court for years
First of all, why would Cynthia be part of John's will? Who puts an estranged ex-wife in their will? She already got a divorce settlement and was receiving alimony. Though she had got pretty screwed in that settlement, that's not Yoko's fault, and no second wife I've ever heard of has ever forked over money to a first wife who already took a part of their husband's earnings.
But secondly, this isn't actually true. Julian was included in John's estate. It's just that John didn't leave much of a will. It was basically a boilerplate, "If I die, my wife gets everything" except that John had set up a trust fund for Julian and Sean to start withdrawing from when they each turned 21. Julian John had started by contributing $100K per year for Julian, and then when Sean was born, he upped it to $250K per year to be split between the two of them.
But John died early, and had only been contributing to this trust fund since his divorce from Cynthia, so only about 10 or 11 years. There's was only a couple million dollars in it, and it was supposed to be split between the two sons.
Julian sued on the basis he would have got much more than that if John had lived, and he was trying to take as much as he could get. As far as Yoko was concerned, anything taken by Julian was taken away from Sean, so it took them about a decade to settle the lawsuit. In the end, Julian walked away with about $20-25 million, which was about 10% of the value of the estate at the time of John's death. He was also the sole heir to whatever value of John's estate had already been given to Cynthia through the divorce (which was considerably less, but again, that's not Yoko's fault, that's Cynthia's lawyer's).
Another really interesting comment from the same user, very much related. (Link to thread)
What did Yoko do to Julian? Julian wrote in his book Beatles Memorabilia: The Julian Lennon Collection that the postcards he bought at auction were ones he likely lost, or else were stolen, during a move from one house to another while living with his mother in the UK. The four postcards are reproduced in that book, and three of the four are also reproduced in Hunter Davies's book The John Lennon Letters. All are postmarked as received in the UK. The earliest of the four is from late 1971, where John sent his new address and phone number in New York to Julian. Meaning, those postcards were never in the possession of John or Yoko once they were sent to Julian in the UK, since John and Yoko never stepped foot in the UK between John's move to New York and his death.
There were some interviews in the late 1990s where interviewers said that Julian had to buy these postcards from Yoko, but if you actually listen to Julian's responses, he's always careful to avoid accusing Yoko directly, instead saying something more general about how Yoko never gave him anything for free and he was now using his dad's money to buy stuff he received from his dad. (Well, by his own admission later, he should have kept better track of the postcards.)
In Davies's book The John Lennon Letters, there is a letter that John sent to his cousin Liela in Scotland that details some of the drama. While Liela's letter to John isn't in the book, John is responding to her letter discussing some failed get-together between Julian and John's sister Julia. It seems that Julia wanted to visit Julian, and John had made some arrangements for it to happen, but when Julia arrived on the arranged date, Cynthia said that Julian wasn't there and turned Julia away (who had driven several hours to make the trip). John goes on to say in the letter that this was part par for the course, and he suspects Cynthia was keeping him and Julian from talking. John made weekly phone calls to Julian, and when John was separated from Yoko, these calls went right through. Julian and Cynthia even came to the US to visit once for an extended vacation. But as soon as John was back with Yoko, Julian never seemed to be there whenever John called, and John suspected Cynthia wasn't relaying his messages to Julian that he'd called. In the series of letters between John and Liela, it seems that Julian had an open invitation to come visit in New York any time he wanted to (John couldn't leave for most of the period due to visa issues) but there were only a handful of actual visits between 1971-80. John believed Cynthia was deliberately distancing Julian from him.
That's not to say John was a good dad. He hadn't been a good dad before the divorce and he did move to a different continent. But Yoko wasn't the issue. It seemed to be rather run of the mill arguments between the divorced parents, John and Cynthia.
The only other "bad" thing Yoko has ever been accused of regarding Julian is the lawsuit over John's estate. But again, this isn't really Yoko's fault. John died without any estate planning, just a boilerplate will that said his wife gets everything. He had started a trust fund for Julian and Sean, but at the time he died, it had a couple million dollars in it, or thereabouts, to be split between the two sons. Julian sued to get more, and there was surely some settlement offered along the way, but any smart lawyer is going to try to get as much money for their client as possible. It eventually was settled, but it took ten years. The amount was undisclosed, but the rumor is that Julian got around $20 million, which was around 10% of the value of the estate at the time of John's death. Maybe that's "unfair", but keep in mind also that John had already given a large chunk of his estate to Cynthia during their divorce, so Julian was heir to that, too. (Though Cynthia did get pretty screwed in that divorce - but again, that has nothing to do with Yoko, and everything to do with John and Cynthia's divorce lawyers.)
Overall, though, Yoko never really did anything in particular to Julian. Julian may have been upset about some money issues, but again, that's due to John's shortsightedness more than anything. Yoko and Julian never had much of a relationship from 1971 on, when Julian was still only eight years old, because there wasn't much visiting going on. And the reason for the lack of visits doesn't seem to be attributable to Yoko.
Unfortunately, there’s been a lot of misinformation or conflation about Julian and Yoko’s relationship. Sorry I quoted a whole bunch, but this user put it better than I ever could and actually made me aware that I held a bunch of assumptions that were actually incorrect about how Yoko and Julian's relationship functioned.
Here, Julian states that he’s forgiven Yoko:
youtube
I would assume that Julian and Yoko had time to reconcile and if he’s forgiven her, then fans should respect that and I think their relationship has bettered. And I think that if he had forgiven her, there must be a reason. Fans may not know the exact details why Julian forgave her, but there is no obligation and I’m just happy to hear that peace has been given a chance, using that same cliche from the video haha.
I do not think Yoko’s relationship with Julian makes her an evil person, though, not at all. I earnestly think she tried to do her best, but after seeing her husband's death, it changed her for a while. But her actions regarding Julian are sometimes twisted to make her sound like a deliberate villain, which I disagree with.

What are some things that john did to julian? Like, i knew he was not the best to him, but i didn't knew about the laughter, for example.
“Dad could talk about peace and love out loud to the world, but he could never show it to the people who supposedly meant the most to him: his wife and son.”- Julian Lennon
He neglected Julian, he basically left him when he was very young Julian has said he barely really knew his father and felt unimportant in his life. Julian has even said that Paul was more of a father to him than John was.
Here’s a story from their housekeeper.
“When Mr Lennon was at home there were often rows during meals when John seemed to be too severe with Julian and criticised the way he behaved at table. Julian, who was a very sensitive child at the time would become upset and Mrs Lennon would argue with Mr Lennon about this.
As a result there would be an argument about the way Julian was being brought up. Mr Lennon would say Mrs Lennon was too soft with him. I think that he was probably not enough with his son at my house owing to his profession to know how to handle him. Julian's table manners were if anything better than average.”
here’s something Cynthia said
“John's erratic behaviour around Julian continued — fun one moment and violent anger the next. And he could be like this with Sean too, reducing the little boy to tears of terror. Fred Seaman, or sometimes Yoko, would act as a buffer when John lost his temper. Julian was constantly on tenterhooks, sensing that an eruption was coming and retreating to his room in the hope of avoiding it.”
John has also that Sean was a product of love while Julian was a product of a whiskey bottle, which like that’s awful thing to say.
In conclusion, he just wasn’t a good father to Julian overall and neglected him. Although he did love him and was proud of him , I’ll end this post on a positive note and show this letter he wrote to Cyn showing that he cared about both of them.
"It's not much bother really, is it? When you think about it - cause I'm sure Dot (Dorothy Jarlett, the housekeeper at Weybridge) and Lil (Lillian Powell, Cynthia's mother), Bengie, Tommy, wee Jocky etc. can understand something as simple as us wanting to be alone for a day. I don't mean Julian tho' - I mean don't pack him off to Dot's or anywhere - I really miss him as a person now - do you know what I mean - he's not so much 'The Baby' or 'my baby' any more. He's a real living part of me now, you know he's Julian and everything and I can't wait to see him, I miss him more than I've ever done before - I think its been a slow process my feeling like a real father! I hope all this is clear and understandable. I spend hours in dressing rooms and things thinking about the times I have wasted not being with him - and playing with him - you knew, I keep thinking of those stupid bastard times when I keep reading bloody newspapers and other shit while he's in the room with me and I've decided its ALL WRONG! He doesn't see enough of me as it is and I really want him to know and love me and miss me like I seem to be missing both of you so much. I'll go now 'cause I'm bringing myself down thinking what a thoughtless bastard I seem to be - and its its only sort of three o'clock in the afternoon and its seems the wrong time of day to feel so emotional - I really feel like crying - its stupid - and I'm choking up now as I'm writing - I don't know whats the matter with me - Its not the tour thats so different from other tours - I mean I'm having lots of laughs (you know the type he! he!) but in between the laughs there is such a drop - I mean there seems no in-between feelings. Anyway I'm going now so that this letter doesn't get too draggy. I love you very much.”

I read about Julian Lennon recently and he called his dad a hypocrite preaching peace and love “Dad could talk about peace and love out loud to the world but he could never show it to the people who supposedly meant the most to him” he found it ironic his dad could speak of that yet show no love or compassion to his son and once wife. I immediately thought of H bc being a good person doesn’t allow you to cherry pick who you show love and compassion while allowing you to show certain others none!
Quotes from various interviews with Julian Lennon and John Lennon are chilling:
On the subject of the relationship he had with Imagine hitmaker John by the time he died, Julian recalled: “It was still very distant.
“I probably knew him as much as I know you,” he told the interviewer. “That’s about how warm it was. There were cuddles now and then but there was always an uneasy tension.”
Shortly before he died, The Beatles legend John opened up about the difference between Julian and Cynthia and his second marriage to Yoko and their young son Sean Lennon.
“Sean is a planned child, and therein lies the difference,” he said. “I don’t love Julian any less as a child. He’s still my son, whether he came from a bottle of whiskey or because they didn’t have pills in those days.
What the fuck is this cruelty...
“He’s here, he belongs to me and he always will.”
He went on to say he was working on rebuilding a relationship with Julian, who was 17 at the time, adding: “Julian and I will have a relationship in the future.”
After John was killed, it was revealed little had been left to him in the will.
Yoko was the executor of his will and Julian only received a share of the estate many years later.
Many years of arguing over the estate followed his father’s death for Julian as he battled with Yoko.

My Thoughts on Yoko Ono
Tumblr media
Hello everyone. Late post, but I wanted to post this, since I think it’s important. As many of you may know, yesterday was Yoko Ono’s birthday. Being a Cynthia Lennon fan, I don’t spend time on this page talking about Yoko. This page is for Cynthia and anything that’s somehow related to her. But I thinks it important to state my opinions on Yoko anyway. Not just because of her birthday, but because despite anything and everything, she was John’s wife. The women did play a huge role in his life, and she continues to live and have a lot of influence over his image (and even the image of The Beatles).
So I’ll make this as brief as possible....what is my opinion on Yoko Ono?
Well, I don’t hate her....but I do hate a lot of things she’s done. I honestly don’t think John was as happy with her than it’s often made out to be. I honestly think he was happier with Cynthia and with May Pang. And I also think her treatment of Cynthia and Julian (especially Julian) was wrong too. She also didn’t treat his sisters well either. And her behavior towards John’s entire family immediately after his death was just repulsive. She was too possessive over John; she changed his diet and kept him distant from his friends and family for years.
On the flip side, I do feel bad that she had to endure so many miscarriages. That’s a hard thing to go through. And I’m happy that she was able to have Sean and be reunited with her daughter after so long. Who knows whether she has regrets. Maybe or maybe not. But to hate her would be wrong, especially since she’s never done anything wrong towards me. And if Cynthia was able to treat her like a human being, so should the rest of us. One thing is certain: Yoko is a very clever woman...and that is perhaps the greatest compliment you can give her.
So those are my opinions. My apologies to any Yoko fan out there who may not agree with me, or who hate hearing bad things about her. I try to be fair, and I honestly don’t say anything that I don’t think is true. These are my honest opinions. And everyone has the right to think what they want. Not just about Yoko, but any person. If any of you feel strongly about something I said, don’t hesitate to send me a message. I’d like to hear your thoughts, provided it’s done respectfully. If not, then as always, thanks for reading.
God bless and until next time....

Grice, Elizabeth.  “Dad was a hypocrite.  He could talk about peace and love to the world but he could never shpw it to his wife and son.”  The Telegraph.  Telegraph Media Group, 1 April 2015.  Web.  9 October 2017. <hyyp://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/4713954/Dad-was-a-hypocrite.-He-could-talk-about-peace-andlove-to-the-wourld-but-he-could-never-show-it-to-his-wife-and-son.html>
This is an article written by Elizabeth Grace published on The Telegraph talking about how even though John Lennon when he was still alive constantly preached world peace and love, he rarely was caring or loving to his ex-wife Cynthia and son Julian.  Within the article, John’s son Julian was interviewed and talks about the relationship or lack there of he had with the famous late musician.  Once John left Julian’s mother Cynthia for Yoko Ono, and they had their son together Sean, Julian was just tossed aside.  His father was never there and even when he died, Julian received nothing from the large estate left behind.  Once John Lennon died Yoko Ono kept ties on all the money and memorabilia close, and even rather than give some items to Julian, he had to buy some of his father’s possessions after his death at auctions as if he was any other person.  Julian Lennon is a musician like his father and speaks about his new debut album that came out in 2015.  He also explains that as he’s gotten older he wants to be separate from his father, explaining how he barely even knew the man.  Rather than constantly being asked about his late dad, why not ask him about himself.

HI! Could you tell me what John Lennon was like as a person? (I recently got into his solo stuff and was just wondering) (also love your blog
that’s a difficult question that has a lot to unload. but the answer can be boiled down to “well it depends on who you ask.” i never met john lennon so i can not give you a perfect answer. but then again, even if i met him there’s a lot of circumstances that come with that. was he in a bad mood when i met him? was he on drugs? was he young or was he older? was i close to him or just a stranger in passing? all those questions and more come into playing when you meet someone and trying to decide if that’s how they really are as a person.
what we know about john is that he had a rough childhood. his father was never around, had to live with his aunt, only got to see his birth mom for a little bit (so much so that john didn't really think of her as a mom), his uncle died when he was young, and then his mother died as well. his aunt mimi meant well but she never gave him really any emotional support or affection. and i think that affected him tbh. his teachers had no faith in him expect for maybe an art teacher. he was really into art and was creative. he was really kind of alone for a while. he had some anger issues and problems with communicating/confrontations. he ended up meeting cynthia and they dated then got married. i believe that it was her who showed john what true love and affection from someone feels like. he met paul, he met george, he met ringo, and then the beatles years started. he was kind of a lazy person and not very into working like paul was. if it wasn't for paul the beatles wouldn't of gotten as much done as they did. but he was very sensitive and easily hurt. he was upset bc he thought paul only ever wanted to be around him just to write music. easily hurt but would never admit it. and was always bitter and cold to whoever hurt his feelings. kind of being impulsive in what he says or does. that’s why he always contradicted himself. i think him leaving the beatles was an impulsive move tbh. he always spoke his opinions and didn't care what others thought. very insecure and hated himself. he’s admitted he didn't like his voice on any of the beatles tracks. he was known to be “funny” and able to lighten the mood. in my opinion i think he was very open minded. he had a close relationship with their manager brian who was gay, and he was very curious about sexuality. there’s an interview he does with george where george is talking about david bowie and elton john and saying they “look silly and stupid” and john says “i think they're great.” i think he had good intentions but had a hard time getting to those intentions. I often think about the letter he sent cynthia once about how much he loved julian and wanted to be a better father and have a good connection with him.. etc. i don't think he was evil or vicious or mean spirited. he was working on changing himself for the better.
paul mccartney talks very highly of john. in fact, there’s an interview where the host asked paul what john was like and paul said he was “beautiful.” in a most recent interview he said he still has dreams about john and that they're good dreams. in any circumstance he always defends john. ringo and george would also talk highly of john. it seemed like all the beatles were close to john. george martin talked highly of john and his work before. yoko ono and cynthia both continue(d) to talk highly of john. cynthia always had so much love for him. sean ono lennon talks highly of his dad. julian not so much, but i do think there’s love there for him. there’s quite a few fans who said that john was very nice to them and was calm and easy to talk to. he was friends with a lot of other big artists and they all seemed to like him a lot.
i think anyone who had a bad interaction with john likely met him during the beatles years when he was at his worst state of mind. as he got older he evened out more. i hope this answered your question somehow.
