I imagine Riddle chasing down the pirates that want to take mc as their own for whatever purposes. Ace must feel guilty about putting mc in danger even though he joined the navy to protect her.

oh my god. okay so, i’m actually writing a series of scenarios where m/c escapes / gets kidnapped from each captain.

and let me tell you- ace feels absolutely horrible

not even crewel’s punishments and berating can snap him out of the trance like state he was in.

others see it as survivors guilt. but cater knows something happened. riddle and crewel are just focused on getting you back. (but that won’t stop cater from whispering into riddle and crewel’s ears..)

and so when riddle offered him, and by extension deuce- an opportunity to get you back, they jumped at it and joined the navy

thinking about it more, i feel like ace and deuce would first be your guards, then join the navy to get y/n back, cause i feel like it’d be too convenient?? plus they wanna pay you and crewel back for taking them in when they were younger 😿

but riddle is definitely chasing down leona and his crew. and when he realizes you’re no longer there- he grows mad

please tell us more about childhood friend azul. What did Riddle do to ruin it??

okay okay- i wont give up how they met or the beginning of their relationship due to the progression of the story, and i’m still working out some kinks in their relationship, but!

chilhood friend azul! who you’d see once a week on saturdays. meeting him in a cave that has turns from sand to rocks, as vines hang from its stone structure. where beams of sun would shine through and warm the exposed salty water

childhood friend azul! who would excitedly ‘sneak out’ of his home in at a first flimpse of sun light, holding a new sea treasure he found while hiding in a crate from his bullies.

childhood friend azul! who thought he was being slick with his adventures to the surface to meet his new friend- when in reality his mother and step father would sneak around after him. first concern written was written on their faces. but soon turned into hushed giggles and gentle slaps one they realized he was sneaking out to court another- more specifically you

(of course they sat him down and embarrassed him- but hey, that’s what parents are for 🤷🏻)

and when you finally went into the water with him, bathing suit on as you and azul excitedly splashed around for minutes, which turned out to be hours as streaks of orange and blue painted the skies through the hole in the rock. azul took hold on your hand, cheeks matching the beautiful conch shell he gave you as he told you that one day, he was going to bring you to meet his parents, and show you around the his home town.

childhood friend azul! who would always laugh and joke with you when you told him about your latest escape from your two watchful guards- ace and deuce if he recalled. how they both fell for the ‘hey look! a pirate ship!’ prank as you rushed passed them, bag that was filled with utensils clanking away like a robber.

oh how he envied you. able to walk, run, play- with friends none the less. how he had once tried to join you on land, but immediately hopped back into the water after he was awkwardly moving around,, you giggles ringing in his ears as he hid himself under a rock. though with your hand you were able to pull him out. staring into his eyes as you told him you were going to find a way to turn him human. even if just for a day so he could meet your friends, your dad and enjoy a day on land

of course he couldn’t stop thinking about that, spends hours of the weekdays going to libraries, listening to witch doctors- anything or anyone that had any idea about transformation magic

childhood friend azul! didn’t like the boy with red hair you brought with you one day. eyes like blood and a scowl deeper than a blob fish, who pulled you aside all the whole giving azul that look. he didn’t need to hear to know what he was saying, he’s heard it all before. though azul couldn’t help but smirk at the red head as you pushed him back, yelling at him for even muttering those words about your friend- your best friend.

of course, at the time azul wouldn’t know why that made his stomach churn, as the only thing he was focused on was the red heads surprised look. so this is what it felt to be in power? he could see why people liked it, knowing you had one up the other party, seeing someone that irritated you upset or put below felt rather exhilarating.

though that didn’t last long… as azul was roaming the shoreline a month having already passed by like a flash. earlier that day, per usual azul was hiding from his bullies when he had found a sand dollar! one in pristine condition none the less! he remembered you banking on about always wanting one, about how you’ve only managed to collected washed up ones that either had huge dents in them, or were smashed to pieces.

oh you were going to be so lucky! if he could find it again… but the sun was setting and it was getting dangerous out, so he had to be quick. but the sudden human cheering and harsh lights drew his attention- it was a boat! a heartsbyual boat he saw in the harbor long ago when you both first met…

but why was it in pomefiore territory… at sunset… no- he remembers where his curiosity got him last time and he won’t do it again… he still had to look for the sand dollar after all!

though the sudden shout of your name had him swimming closer to the large white ship, and the crowd grew silent. but as he swam he caught sight of you!- oh and that must be your dad, the one in the fur coat with split hair! and the blue and red haired boys standing at your flanks must have been ace and deuce!! and that blonde boy whispering in your ear must have been vil! from what he heard, they’d get along swimmingly!

he felt his hair stutter a bit as he let his mind wander a bit, about what it’s be like for him to be up there, with you and your friends- even what it’d be like for you to be down in the ocean with his family! as his mom and dad already know you by name, and would be able to spot you from a mike away with how much he talks about you!

though his cheeky smile faltered when he caught sight of the short red head- riddle again. and a woman dressed in military wear who was talking, but that didn’t matter as he just focused on you. how the black and white suit you wore was so  intricately designed he would have thought it was from a fairy tail. the matching did coat you wore hind from your shoulders as you wore a crown on your head, it’s red jewel’s two king under the lights as the silver holding them was shimmering, azul guessed it was just polished for said event.

it was hard for him to see, so using his tentacles, he climbed up the side of ship as his hands gripped the oak flooring, a puddle of water dripping from it as his eyes drank everything up. that was until riddle started talking, making him cringe as he walked closer to you, vil ace and deuce awkwardly shuffling aside as he slowly walked towards you, his white suit and red and black side cape fluttering behind him as he finally took your hands in his.

but before he could hear what happened next, azul slipped, sliding against the polished boat as a loud sound happened. cringing, he ducked his head in shame as slowly climbed up again, eyes barely floor level when a pair of crimson eyes stared right back at him.

he almost dipped again out of fright. holding in a gasp as riddle look at him in surprise, voice dying out in his throat as his eyes bugged out of his head. though- from who he assumed was his mom- told him to keep going. nodding slowly, riddle face you again, gloved hands in one another as riddles hand moved to your arm, learning you to stay side by side with the banister.

“y/n divius. i’ve known you for almost my whole life now, 5 years to be exact. and i know we’re still young, only 9 and 8… but” he got down on one knee “would you become my fiancé?”

like the sea witch herself struck him through the heart, azul’s head spun as his eyes widened identical to a guppy as you both gasped. your hands flying to your mouth as you looked to your dad, who nodded with a smile as you hesitantly accepted… and that was all it took for riddle to hold you close, and swoop in.

some noble woman swooning about how ‘romantic young love is’, calling him a ‘casanova’ of elbowing their husbands as your three friends all wore faces of either shock of disgust.

but the damage was down, and with an ink trail behind him azul did what he did best, run away. but this time, of a broken heart as all his dreams and fantasies of you shattered like a sand dollar. and you never heard from or saw azul again…

until a decade later….

Grim didn’t sign up for being constantly kidnapped from pirate to pirate. But his bond with mc grows and there’s a chance he’ll be drowning in all the tuna he wants if mc ever makes it home.

so when he gets a cellmate- he’s less than excited… to say the least

all in all, as you both go through more and more- he’ll start to be the only person cat you can trust. but your childhood friend betrayed you- what makes you think greedy, scheming grim won’t as well…

Pirate AU MC but they have more agency than people give them credit for from the start. They aren't manipulating anyone per say, they're just used to acting the way everyone expect them to (cough riddle n his mom and also vil cough). To people around, MC is sheltered, naive, somewhat aloof, the only interesting thing about them being in the possession of the key. This can't be further from the truth

MC has a wild streak, quick thinking and a sharp toungue to match. However throughout MC's entire life they were discouraged (mb non-directly) from that behaviour, making them repress that side of personality, becoming more quiet and melancolic on the outside as a result, while having a storm inside. This was reaffirmed multiple times in their life, that they would be better off just going with the flow, letting people see what they want to see - a damsel in distress from a wealthy family

They still retain the thirst for any kind of practical knowledge they can put hands on in secret. I figure, it's not very common for a person of MC's status to know how to heal wounds or something. It is a work for a medic, not a noble. But they helped Jack that one time

Then MC does shit like pick a cell lock with a hairpin, steal some gold and sail the sea on a stolen boat in the dead of night after they've been kidnapped

The guys say MC shouldn't trust a pirate, but beliving that Yuu is any different in that regard is a folly. For all they know, Yuu might just have a goal of their own

They learn people are after the key, and hold it above their kidnappers' heads. Like that scene with a medalion, where Elizabeth (i think) threatened a whole crowd with throwing it into the sea

you went back to your pampered ways when you saw azul though.

but leona’s mark was still there as you only showered once and started to speak your mind a bit more, slowly breaking through that invisible prison that kept you and your younger self away.

sometimes you dreamed about them. your head in your own lap as they stared down at you with a small smile, tooth missing from either getting twacked by a branch or from naturally falling out- memories blurring together or down right lying to you.

but all you know is that when you get back to crewel, he is absolutely horrified

i actually didn’t think about that. at first, i wanted grim to bey/n’s companion. and accidentally getting involved in the kidnapping when he tried to rescue them.

BUT

then i compared the two:

grim, your ‘magical royal cat’ who’s spoilt beyond word.

and of course he was giving you a pep talk before you were going to walk down the alter until you were oh so rudely interrupted kidnapped

and he has a horrible time adjusting to the sea. cause he doesn’t have sea legs, there’s no fancy tuna (expect for the fresh ones- but they’re not crewel verified so 😟)

as you both got used to the ‘pirate’ life you were still there. hoping and scheming to find ways back to land, to your father to riddle🤔

or

he’s a fellow prisoner that took advantage of leona’s… kindness.

and so he’s just talking away in the dungeons and- oh my god does he EVER SHUT. UP.

but he was there when the nights got hard. when ruggie’s promise of food never seemed to come. or when he kept flying around during storms, only for you to catch him, and hold him close to your chest as you huddled into the damp corner.

you hate him at first- but you now couldn’t imagine yourself without him. grim being the one constant you have in your current and ongoing predicament.

everywhere you went- he went. you were a package deal. and no captain- nor leviathan was ever going to change that

and ultimately, i think i like the second one better. mainly cause it spices things up and makes things harder for our lovely y/n😳😳

I’m kinda interested to see what happens if mc got engaged to Vil instead of Riddle although I believe that they still get kidnapped because of Ace and get toss from pirate to pirate

okay. i kept this in the inbox cause i honestly was extremely intrigued with this.

cause no, how would the story differ if vil got to mc first

and honestly- now that i think about it… the story wouldn’t really change that drastically

ace! who after the ruined ceremony is summoned to the throne room with an expressionless crewel who tells his guards, advisors and everyone else to leave.

ace! who get smacked with crewel’s riding crop as he calls him ‘a useless, ungrateful mutt’

ace! bleeding with broken skin is roughly pulled towards an emotionless crewel, who’s grip tightens on his chin as he spews venom.

“ if you wish to not walk the gallows trapolla. you will fix this”

he isn’t sure what crewel thinks at this point. which is a horrifying thought that keeps him from eating the next morning

ace! who stays awake for days after your kidnapping, cursing every pirate to hell- especially that sweet talking one that gave him the idea in the first place.

ace! who racks his brain to remember who gave him the idea. who to pin the blame on. but there’s nothing. like his minds been wiped clean. hell, he wouldn’t have even known it was someone else’s idea hadn’t the regulars asked about that ‘foreigner’

ace! who pushes away deuce, trey and cater- who goes on his knees and begs riddle to forgive him. that he’d do anything to get you back.

ace! with a new hatred of pirates, sinking ships and shooting survivors. so much misplaced rage and regret- those low lives being the perfect target for all his unstable emotions.

ace! falling to his knees on the bow of the ship, watching you get detained by another group as riddle shoves trey to take over the helm-

ace! screaming into the distance, apologizing, promising, cursing as deuce holds him back as riddle orders more canon fire…

oh yeah- he’s going through it. ace still is fun loving but when it’s time to get to work or when you’re mentioned- he immediately stops joking, smile falling almost instantly as he asks the person to repeat themselves..

sigh just imagining y/n and ace’s actual reunion. them both crashing into each others arms as ace’s frantic grip tries to firmly press you against him. but after you remember him putting you in this mess. remembering he was the one who led you to the docks, was the one who planned this… yes he tried to stop them, tried to get you back resulting him to fall into the bay…

it’s not smthn you can live down.. so after the brief reunion you’re trying to get out of his grip as he calls over for the other heartsbyual crew members, telling you that he’s gonna bring you home that he’s gonna make everything right..

but you can’t- at least not yet when you now have a respond ik it’s at sea- and ace won’t like this. no t one bit.

well too bad you can’t decide that- as riddle drops his sword in disbelief and runs towards you in the middle of a cross fire 😳

Ughh i love the Vil plot, imagine he does your make up to make sure its just perfect every time the you him both seen together after getting engaged. Getting your outfits that are always modest, but enough to steal the air from anyones lungs. But since the your so naive snd gullible it flies over your head it’s another way of him controlling everything you do in a effort to create the ideal version of you in his mind.You think it’s out of love, and it is. A love for idea of the crown on top of his head someday.

but this is exactly what i thought the relationship of vil and mc would be like.

vil has been there since day 1. he studied with you, occupies you out, bandages you up when you get hurt, helped you with your hair, makeup and etc gives you tips to be more mannered- sometimes you wonder if you’ve been switched at birth!

so you never questioned when vil would make a decision for you. even if you originally had the opposite opinion than his answer. but you shrugged it off easily, not even giving it a thought as you thanked vil and changed to his way. again.

you were oh so obedient. so… naive. pure.

always so well mannered, never having your own opinion, always coming when called, always people pleasing and staying to yourself / your close friends and family. it made vil just die!

you were just so perfect!!

so maybe that’s why he was breaking his nails with his teeth behind the doors of his room. throwing exspensive murals and vases- priceless artifacts onto the plum and navy rug. staining the gold outlines with crimson droplets as his shattered mirror stares him dead in the face.

all those years… all those years of planing- working- harder than anybody! were wasted! gone down the drain just like that! all his blood sweat and tears in vain. just like that.

He grabs you and stuffs a big piece of tuna in Grim mouth, quickly replacing the wrist with a beggars wrist. He grabs some giant scarf and wrapped around Y/N & Grim to blend in. Sneaking away was easy. Disguising as dancers, they enter shop which was actually a tunnel to the Land. Y/N keeps asking Jamil questions while Grim keeps asking him for food.

Once they enter the fresh air, they are met by seeing Kalim and his crew.

i dont anything else to say really. kalim and jamil finessed y/n out of octavinelle and earned y/n’s trust.

genius idea on their part, cause after some TLC they basically can get any info out of that they want!! whether it be about the other pirates, kingdom politics and etc!

I kinda understand why Riddle would have an identity crisis. His life was planned from his birth to probably even his death. So his fiancé getting kidnapped basically destroyed those plans.

i feel like i just rambled without any direction. but i agree. his gender was even planned. so ofc the color and size of his casket are too.

riddle is very unstable. from the day of your taking to the month he’s supposed to get you.

and like i said at first- riddle is inconsolable.

after losing leona’s ship at sea, and seeing you get man handled by some wolf, riddle throws random things into the he ocean. may it be medical supplies, rum, spices, gifts - anything and everything to make the ship go faster

but it’s no use.

this is a navy ship! so why is a pirates ship faster??

when he gets off the ship and back to port where his mother and crewel (with his guards) are waiting expectingly, eyes downcast as his mind is still at that moment.

still at the moment you were both staring at each other. he was so close he could see the color of your eyes. how terrified you were … in the end he couldn’t bring himself to hurt them- you.

forgetting all about firing at them as a trickle of blood was fell from your neck. leona’s knife cutting deeper as he spoke with that callous smile… but he couldn’t hear him, nor trey for the matter. as he only look at you. engaged in leona’s embrace, looking just as radiant as he imagined you would’ve in your wedding day.

he sullied you. sillier your hair, your applied makeup as crewel wanted you to be so extravagant, so breath taking it beautiful- that it would seem like a god was walking among them.

but you always looking like that to riddle. as have, and always will.

crewel doesn’t blame riddle… he blames ace, as he should’ve put his life before yours without even the littlest of hesitation. but he didn’t. instead he’s depressed. 😐

and it’s not that he lost you, the center of his life plan… but it’s also that he was forced into a position he didn’t want to be in.

and our lovely riddle- who has never broken a rule in his life, was forced to..

yet he did. he rolled over and showed his belly to kingscholar. hoping a pirate would keep his word to a stick up, navymen.

and gradually things started going down hill, him waking up to nightmares of leona slotting your throat, riddle hugging you as you’re in rags; bruised and beaten before leona shot you in the head- you slipping from his grasps as your dull eyes stare up at his.

you and leona are a frequent in his nighterrors. from murder to betrayal- he’s dreamt of every scenario. from leona using you as a shield from riddle’s bullet, from finding you in a barrel shipped back to pomefiore, even you falling madly in love with the sea cat.

every night theres a new movie in the theatre. he’s tried to say awake- he really has, but after 2 days of no sleep after a tightly packed schedule and boring paperwork… he finds himself at sea again

he’s snappy, even more so when someone remotely reminds him of you- even if they don’t do anything, a mannerism or an eyelash out of could set of his hair like trigger.

without much warning, he storms to crewel’s throne room who was busy… lecturing ace- he proposes going on a voyage. a mission. to save you and to drown those cats.

of course he uses ace- how could he not. he sees the hatred and malice when riddle brings up the would ‘pirate’. dragging cater and trey- deuce already on shop demanding riddle to let him come.

his mom’s already got her second best crew on board, ready to sail and waiting for riddle’s orders.

he remembers his mom’s piercing stare, her right grip and her stone cold words ; “don’t mess this up” her lip popping at the ‘p’ as she walked past him and into crewel’s meeting room with all the other high ranking officials.

there’s a lot riding on his voyage. your life, the future of pomefiore no one has to say it but they were all thinking it, his promotion, his sanity.

so one way of another, he’ll push back the ticks of guilt, the restless nights and long looks at the hypnotic sea and he’ll find you. he’ll get both your and his life back. he promises.

the deal? well.. after a bruised cheek and gentle caress- with mixed emotions, he make sure to fix his mistake of not following the rules. even if it’s dangerous or it might put your life in risk (he’s doing it for the better good. to get things back to normal as soon as possible)
