AU where Tachihara is de-aged before the Hunting Dog reveal and everyone in the PM expects to be dealing with a rowdy little boy only to be met with one the quietest and most skittish kids ever. He only speaks when they approach him first, and spends the rest of his time staring at the ground or playing with his hands. Maybe he’s clutching his older brother’s dog tag in them, wondering if his parents are going to come pick him up or leave him there.

Maybe he’s not old enough to know who Yosano is and lights up when he sees her for the first time because “my brother made that hairpin, right?”

Maybe he does know, and the violent reaction he gives is the most emotive they ever get to see him for however long he stays that young.

Part of me wants him to not understand that he’s currently in the future, and hearing everyone talk about the “older Tachihara” just makes him fold in on himself as if trying to become smaller. He can’t fathom the idea that so many people would know and care about him enough to be so stressed out when he suddenly changes, so he just assumes that they’re actually talking about Shunzen or something. The other part of me wants him to end this de-aging experience comforted by the fact that he might not feel good enough in the moment, but that he’ll grow up better than he thinks he will.

There’s just so much potential in this kind of development with a character like Tachihara, who seemed so clean cut and simple and yet turned out to be one of the most intentionally secretive characters in the series.

Tachihara literally becoming his brother...every surgery he has somehow makes him resemble him even in the smallest of ways.

His ability is also to manipulate metal, but Tachihara's is the combat ability Shunzen never had.

He's a soilder just like his brother but while Shunzen read of the immortal soilder regiment. Tachihara was the one to become an immortal soilder in humanity's army.

They both even tried to escape the battle the same way. But Shunzen succeeded while Tachihara failed.

Because that's all Tachihara will be, am imperfect copy of his older brother.

actual plot:

its shunzen's birthday! cue the sad music. cue the mourning.

tachihara mopes about it, goes out to get coffee, and then gets kidnapped by his mafia coworkers who mistakenly think that it's his birthday and throw him a party.

he spends the day with them as if it is, feeling guilty, feeling like a further impersonation of his brother. when they cut the cake, he's reminded of his brother (probably some kind of bug design or something)
