I know Doc isn't the most popular LI out there in SWTOR but I do think he pairs so well with my stoic seemingly emotionless full LS JK, a Cathar lady who has a more aggressive, assertive side bubbling underneath that only he brings out in her. 💛🖤
He would NOT in a million years match with ANY of my JK alts though. 🤣
Sharing the love on #SWTORLISunday  🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

I finally met Doc in my Jedi knight run and Kira has amazing commentary.
Doc, to my Jedi: Beautiful. And the kits look great, too. Kira, pointing her finger at him: This guy's a walking hormone.

Something I gotta get off my chest...again.
So, we all know our Apprentice companions in SWTOR. They’re great characters, no one’s denying that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But their romances? Kinda creepy. Ok, maybe it’s my bias talking, but I just do not like Master x Apprentice ships in any way or form. I don’t like them in Anime, and I certainly don’t like them here. I’ll give Kira a pass, since she’s more like your partner than your padawan. As far as I’m concerned, Master Kiwiks is her master.
But for the rest, they are pretty much your padawans. Also, why does every male force user class have to bang their apprentice, if they’re looking for romance options? Aside from the Sith Warrior, who has Vette as an alternative (yes, I’m well aware there’s unfortunate implications in that department, but you can only romance her if you give her freedom), you’re pretty much stuck with your own apprentice unless you hold out ‘til SoR to romance Lana Beniko.
And it cam come off as doubly so when there’s a noticeable age gap. Yes, if they’re both 18+, it isn’t that big of an issue, but still, it can make these seem very uncomfortable. Especially Nadia, who’s probably the youngest, and can start romancing RIGHT after her father dies.
Look, I’m not trying to shit on anyone who likes these characters or their romance arcs. I’m well aware they all have their moments, and if you like that, no one can take that away from you. Personally? I just thing they’re better off as younger sibling-esque characters than romance options.

it's been a long while since i did the writing thing, and never really for swtor. everything is 🤷
doc x jedi knight
on ossus, sometime during the kotfe/et separation, wherein doc misses his wife
There was more grey in his hair these days. Distinguished, he'd call it, when Nadia caught him examining it in the mirror. Everyone loved a sexy, older-but-not-old-old doctor, and it just added to his charm.
Was she out there somewhere, getting older too? Laugh lines deepening, skin softening, only ever growing stronger? Any other possibility couldn't be considered, even if the ache in his chest said otherwise. Heartburn, he'd say, to wave off any concerns. The wrong diagnosis, perhaps, but who were they to argue with a doctor?
Maybe they were just too polite to point out the lie.
It wasn't like he understood how the Force worked. Maybe she was the only one who could read him; dark eyes narrowed, words cutting right through the bluster to the heart of the matter. To his heart.
There was hope, once, that she would find him, find the rest of the Jedi, that somehow his need and desperation could reach across the galaxy to bring her home. Kira insisted she was still out there, distant but alive, but Kira wasn't here to repeat those daily platitudes.
The others asked, sometimes, about travelling with the Jedi who had taken on the Sith Emperor. Before, they'd called him an ally, a friend, and he'd wink at her across the room. Now he had to smile through gritted teeth, pretend as if he wasn't her husband, vague generalisations instead of loving anecdotes, left wondering just how much they could sense he was hiding. They thought her a martyr, a mythical hero to add to the archives, and each day he came closer to slipping, to revealing just how little they knew.
Even cut off, they kept a galactic calendar, to celebrate milestones and life days. Time passed strangely on this orange planet, so occupied with the need to simply survive, that he might have missed it if it weren't for that.
Ten years.
Ten years, and more than half of it apart.
Ten years since he'd pulled himself together to admit what he really wanted.
Ten years since she took his hands and repeated those words back again.
And here he was, alone on a barren rock, surrounded by people who didn't, and couldn't know.
That was the crux of the issue, wasn’t it? The secrecy, so enforced because he couldn’t risk her position: Jedi rules. They’d argued about it, talked in circles into frustration, and now? It was time wasted instead of appreciated, time he could have spent lost in her arms, her eyes, her smile. What would even happen if he told this group of Jedi, so cut off from the galaxy? Would it tarnish her memory, or ruin a future when she returned?
If she returned.
More than half the colony weren’t Jedi, other regular people fleeing the destruction and seeking protection. There’d been looks, moments when tending a sprained ankle could have turned into something else, but the charm wasn’t always there when he reached for it these days. What would be the point? His heart had been ruined– saved– so it didn’t matter how hard they flirted, no one else could hold his attention now.
The colony had a working still, which was built approximately ten seconds after the first building’s roof was installed, and it pumped out some sort of clear alcohol that would knock even Gnost-Dural on his back. It lived now in a spot dubbed “the watering hole”, and most nights that was the place to be, with both Jedi and civilians sharing stories, dancing, playing cards– whatever sort of pleasure they could derive from this hellhole of a planet. He’d gotten to know a lot of them over a drink, but tonight he waved a polite decline to the usual carousers inviting him in.
There was a rock near the perimeter sensors that he’d spotted a while back, wide and flat and out of sight of most of the habitation buildings, the perfect size to stretch out and watch the stars. When he’d arrived, he’d tucked away a bottle of good Ralltiir rum with an ever-despairing hope that he might crack it open someday, to share in a reunion, a celebration. This might be as close as he’d ever get.
He could taste the memories as he sipped directly from the bottle, could almost see her eyes in the stars reflecting off the glass. Darkening cheeks, unrestrained laughter, falling into each others’ arms; it used to be so easy to love her.
It still was.
“Ten years, beautiful,” he said into the night. “You better be raising a glass wherever you are.”
Not that he’d hold it against her if she wasn’t.
“Remember the first time we went to Ralltiir together?” he chuckled to himself. “My parents hated both of us so much that we just got a hotel and stayed in bed all week.” The humour felt hollow even to him. “Then we dressed up to go to the ritziest restaurant on the entire planet and you, you looked like a princess from a holonovel, but you couldn’t stop worrying about how expensive it was or whether you’d get recognised…”
We really shouldn’t be wasting credits on such frivolous things, she’d fret. Jedi are supposed to live frugally, Archie.
Archie. He missed that name, as ridiculous as it was. From her lips it wasn’t a curse, but a gift. What he’d give to hear her say it, even one more time…
“Sounds like someone who means a lot to you.” Shit. Gnost-Dural’s filtered voice floated over the breeze, and like a teenager caught out, he instinctively hid the bottle of rum in his coat. Idiot, the Jedi don’t care about that.
“Something like that.” He leaned back, but Gnost-Dural waited, patient yet present. He wasn’t going to accept the deflection.
“My wife’s been missing a long time now,” he admitted, eventually, trying to shut down the line of questioning. If the Jedi really could read lies there was probably a holosign above his head right now.
“You’ve mentioned her, on occasion.”
“She’s a very private person, even if she’s…” he struggled to get the word out, “even if she’s gone. I wouldn’t want to…” He sighed, trailing off. What could he say? He would shout from the very highest point of this planet, plaster the holonet with hearts, graffiti their names on the walls if he could, but he’d made a promise.
Even if it was going to kill him.
“Well, I hope there is someone here you can talk to.” Gnost-Dural’s voice grew sorrowful. “We all need support sometimes.”
“I’m fine, really,” he lied. “It’s just an anniversary.”

Did I remake my Jedi twins Deena and Leena just to play through both Jedi stories again? I totally did. Both girls are stylish redheads but really that’s where most of the similarities end. Deena is high spirited and daring, Leena soft spoken and mindful. Light side decisions are one of the few things they agree on. Together they are make a pretty unstoppable team.

The base female romances in swtor are so trash for Republic 😭 Aric is voiced by one of my fav actors but I can’t stand the republic soldier story, Corso is a chivalrous incel, Felix is sweet but really boring, and Doc is kinda hideous and Handsy. What do you doooo…
I used to like Theron but his evil™️ haircut makes me want to cry, Arcann is half assed, and Koth is ultimately forgettable.
Like Lana is the only decent romance for republic but I can’t romance all my republic women with her. That’s absurd LnensjwjqnJSNSHAJQM

Writing in General (For those who don't want to die like Stormtroopers)
SlickWrite: Completely free; online. Checks grammar, punctuation, flow, and writing style according to different settings (including fiction writing).
ProWritingAid: [RECOMMENDED] One of the most thorough online proofreader I've ever used. Although when using a free account gives extremely thorough feedback, it gives +20 different in-depth reports for only the first 500 words for free. However, you can earn a premium account license (for a year or for life) if you get 10 or 20 new users signing up for free; (if you wouldn't mind doing so using the link above and help me earn mine, please). The settings allow you to check your writing according to your needs, from general to formal to creative. It has a bonus that you can check depending on the genre you're writing. For example, in creative, you can choose romance or sci-fiction (there are 14 sub-genre in total). And just like google docs, you can share a document, and people can view, comment or edit.
LanguageTool: [RECOMMENDED] Another excellent proofreader. It also has a word limit in free accounts, but if you use the add-on for Google Docs, it counts each page as a new document, so hitting the limit is nearly impossible. It helps you to rewrite a sentence, even if it doesn't raise any flags; it's very useful for when your sentence is grammatically correct, but it doesn't feel quite right.
Grammarly, Hemingway Editor: No so great, but they do the basic job.

doc from swtor is arospec. here's why.
disclaimer: obviously this is a headcanon. i consider it based on canonical stuff, but there has been no in-game or in-lore mentions of doc's romantic or sexual orientation. i'm also basing this on my experience as an aromantic person, which may not be the same as your experience as an aromantic person. it's also perfectly fine to disagree as long as you're not a fucking dickhead in my notes.
now to the actual reasoning.
he does not get into serious relationships until he meets the knight. there's that story with the twi'lek woman and him abandoning her at their wedding, but we don't really know how that happened. this does not make him less of a dick for doing that, to be clear -- in the context provided by the game there isn't any evidence to support he was justified in doing that. at the same time though, there is very little we know about the whole situation. was he pressured into it by his or his fiancee's relatives? did he not want to be in a relationship, but agreed to it to not hurt her feelings and didn't have the guts to end it until it was too late? was his fiancee just unhinged and organized a wedding without getting the groom-to-be's consent? is doc just an idiot with commitment issues? we don't know. i mean, we do know that he is an idiot (affectionately) with commitment issues, but whether that was the reason for the failed wedding is unknown. i'm kinda derailing, but the point is, the only serious relationship we know of was a disaster and it's not even known how it came to be like that. his romance dialogue also suggests this is the case, from him thinking he's going crazy for actually falling in love with someone, to saying stuff like "normally, i'd kiss you for talking like that. but i'm trying to do this right", which is, again, not definite proof, but substantial evidence for me.
also based on his dialogue, he finds the concept of non-casual relationships weird. "...wookies mate for life. that's not normal!". of course this can just be him being the whore he is, but i don't think your average "sleeps around with everyone" character would find the concept of marriage for life abnormal. not fit for them, sure, but not an insane thing either.
his opinion clearly changes when he is in a relationship with the knight though. he goes from being the guy who thinks marrying for life is insane to being the only romance option in the game to have an on-screen marriage ceremony and even referencing the wookie thing in a positive context this time: "i want us to be together. like the wookies". he also stays completely faithful despite what some people in this fandom try to claim. you know who you are which is admittedly an incredibly low bar to have but it's not like it's completely unprecedented in bioware games sealene please stop the salt and he is still just as madly in love with her as he was seven years ago.
considering his bafflement with what (i assume) is a normal human romantic experience and literally thinking he's going insane for falling in love with someone, i think it's safe to say he could very well be demiromantic. i don't identify as demi myself, so please correct me if i misrepresent the experience, but the definition for demiros is "describes people who do not experience romantic attraction until they have formed a deep emotional connection with someone" which checks out, it takes him about a year and a half (according to the "1 chapter = 1 year "thing) to get to the point where he realizes he has feelings for the knight. checks out.
so yeah. diversity win! the womanizer guy is queer.

I was looking for something else in my Google drive and found the doc with all the jilted letters if you end one of the other romances in SWtOR for Arcann and OOF. I’d forgotten how brutal some of them are. 😱

Am I seriously sitting here playing out SWTOR playthroughs for love interests?
...................
Yes, yes, I am...-sigh- I need a life.
And honestly, it's mostly just me trying to convince myself why I need to have some of my toons romance someone other than Theron...
Beyond the ones already set in stone (like Aketho), I've decided on two Jedi Knights so far. One for Theron, one for Arcann (and maybe a female one for Doc). At least one female SI for Lana. BH is up in the air unless they make Rass a romance option...I'm gonna need to add this to my spreadsheet (yes, I have a spreadsheet for this game).

Juno: Kira, can I talk to you for a second ? Kira: Yeah, what’s up? Lemme guess. You and Doc are having problems and you want me to teach you how to kiss ? Juno: What ? No, stop that. I know how to kiss. I’ve read books.
