1. It’s a Guessing Game (aka the stoncy band au)

(Stranger Things, Steve/Nancy/Jonathan)

It's the one I actually re-read for fun and also the fic that had the best reception of anything I've ever written. The prompt was fun, I got to have Steve and Robin being trolling besties sharing one brain, an homage to the Buzzfeed thirst tweet vids, and so many Tumblr and fandom references/jokes (ballpit5ever my beloved).

2. And After...?

(Once Upon a Time, Alice/Robin)

This one gets points for being the second best title I've ever thought of. Also it contains this line:

“I missed you Nobin,” Alice confesses in a whisper. “I missed you and I didn’t even remember you. Isn’t that strange?”

Which might be the most Alice like dialogue I'm able to write.

3. Living Out a Half-Truth

(Stranger Things, Steve/Nancy/Jonathan)

Also not a bad title. But I think I love the "Mike chastising Nancy because she's playing with fire and he doesn't want to see her get hurt by their parents" moment the most out of everything in the fic.

4. Henry's Strange Little Family

(Once Upon a Time, Emma & Neal & Regina co-parenting Henry)

This is a terrible, plain title (like most of my fic honestly but it gets the message across). But there wasn't enough platonic Emma-Regina-Neal fic (or even romantic ot3 fic of them) so this one was wish fulfillment and silly. I want to write more for this but I haven't been able to yet.

5. Deny, Deny, Deny

(Stranger Things, Robin and Steve being besties)

Title and concept borrowed from Grey's Anatomy. Also I used the opening and closing monologues as quotes. I definitely rushed to write this one so that I could post it to the July Bingo challenge and it probably needed my typical 3-12 months of editing (aka one of many reasons why I don't post fic a lot). But I still like it. And I really like what I was trying to do with it which is "when you use denial as a coping method, it's gonna catch up to you at a weird moment".

Hello! Sorry for taking a while to answer, I apparently have a lot of thoughts LOOOL

So, there are lots of things that I love about them actually! Henry being in the picture is definitely a factor that makes me interested in their dynamic, because CO-PARENTING, and I just think I would have LOVED to see them all interact for more than two seconds.  

I’m a fan of both Swanfire and Swanqueen, and as far as Swanfirequeen goes I’d love it both as a closed triad (or a open one, why not loool I love Hookedqueen too and I’m just saying that Emma would have the time of her life roasting Regina for her dating choices and Neal would be like “Nope NOPE I don’t want to know ANYTHING that you are doing with my stepfather, please and thank you”, it would be hilarious) and as a V relationship with Emma in the middle. Or also Swanfire together romantically and Regina just vibing queerplatonically, because aro!Regina my beloved.

Whether as romantic partners or metamours or anything else, I definitely crave Regina/Neal interactions. Because they are my two favourite characters, obviously, but also because I think there’s a lot of potential there! They definitely don’t start in a place where they would be too friendly with each other, Neal being so wary of magic and having first met Regina in s2 (when Cora was guiding her down a Not Really Nice spiral) and Regina not being particularly good at sharing (meaning both Henry, because I definitely think that she would struggle a lot with having another co-parent, and also Emma).

I would have loved to see them going from “I don’t trust you and I vaguely dislike you” to “I trust you but only in a very limited capacity, meaning I trust that we both want what’s best for Henry and/or Emma and that is going to have to be enough” to “forced to spend time together and reluctantly growing to like each other” to caring deeply about each other. Just *chef kiss*

I feel like they could bond over their complicated relationships with their parents, just. parents who choose power over their children, trying so hard not to repeat their parents’ mistakes but ultimately failing (Neal because he wasn’t there for eleven years of Henry’s life and Regina "not knowing how to love very well” and hurting Henry before she starts letting him go and learning how to break the cycle), but they could also talk about Rumple specifically, since Regina had him as a bit of a father figure (s6 whomst, I don’t know them).

And there’s also something that I really love about Neal, so scared and distrustful of magic, ending up trusting Regina deeply when so much of her identity is entangled with her magic. I think I threw it in a fic at some point in the form of Neal seeing some magical threat and being like “NOPE” and cowering behind Regina, who definitely wasn’t expecting him to instinctively turn to her for protection.

AND HONESTLY, these two could and should have worked together in s3 when they were in the Enchanted Forest, they should have set aside their differences in the name of how much they both wanted to get back to Henry (and Emma), I DESERVED THAT

But alright, other than these two LOL, I also feel like the three of them as a unit work well together: Neal and Emma have huge abandonment issues but love really deeply, Regina is a clinger who has issues with unconditional love (meaning that she expects people’s love for her to be conditional), it’s a match made in heaven I’m telling you

Plus I feel like both Neal and Emma are pretty messy, so it makes total sense to have Regina, all neat and organized, paired with them. And by “it makes total sense” I mean that they are going to drive her insane and it’s hilarious.

Not to mention the potential for an Extremely Awkward Roommates to lovers storyline: they end up all staying at Regina’s because Neal doesn’t want to stay with his father and his wife and he wants to be with Henry, Emma also wants to be with Henry and her parents’ loft is starting to get crowded with the new baby, and Regina goes for it because Henry just really really wants to enjoy all of his parents and she just can’t say no.

Except Neal and Emma still haven’t figured their shit out, Regina is pining after her son’s mother and is extremely annoyed at said child’s father for taking away from her time with both Emma and Henry, Neal is extremely uneasy living with the literal Evil Queen, and Emma WHILE trying to deal with her feelings for Neal is also starting to realize that something might possibly be up when it comes to her feelings for Regina. Neal and Emma also keep leaving snack trails around the house, they are a nightmare to wake up in the morning and Regina is going to kill both of them (Neal and Emma, on the other hand, think that she’s a dramatic neat-freak). Meanwhile, Henry is just enjoying the show while eating popcorn, safe in the knowledge that if he leaves crumbles Neal and Emma will get blamed for it.

My Current List of One Shot Series

This is my list of one shot series. I don’t consider them mutli-chapter as they may bounce all over the place. Always taking prompts for these.

Before & After (Glass Believer/Mills Family): What took place before the curse and what came after.

Where You Lead (Gold Family/Rumbelle/Swanfire): Gilmore Girls AU. Neal Cassidy left his stuffy upbringing 10 years ago to give his son the childhood he never had. When Henry gets into a fancy prep school and Neal can't afford it, he has to turn to his father and new "step mom" for help.

Lost Boy (Glass Believer): After losing his wife, his career and his home, Henry resorts to drastic measures to support his daughter.

Resurrected (Outlaw Queen): Three years ago, Robin was told that his wife was killed in a car accident. He's spent every day since then trying to help himself and his kids move on. All that process is broken when Regina appears on his doorstep.

Every Little Thing (Detective Snowing): When the curse breaks, Emma finds herself feeling on the outside of her family. Her older sister has memories with her parents that she never will, just as they can remember things Alice can't. It's up to her family to help her feel whole again.

Home (Red Snowing): One change in history can change the future. A collection of one shots of what canon would be if Red Snowing was an established couple.

One Day At A Time (Red Snowing): With a different villain casting the curse, when it breaks, it makes all the difference. Snow, David and Ruby are figuring out how to best raise their little girl, one day at a time.

I Belong With You (You Belong With Me) (SwanFireQueen): He didn’t know her as the Evil Queen like his father, Belle or the Charmings did. She had been civil around him in Neverland and ever since they returned. To him, she was just Regina. Or the story of how these three idiots came to be.

So I know you're not primarily a SQ shipper, but I'm mostly a Rumbeller and either I'm looking in the wrong places or there's only one author who's written any--do you know if there's any such thing as SwanQueenFire (SwanFireQueen?) shippers or fic? The only fic I've seen is porn, which is great but I'd love to see happy family fluff if it exists.

Swanfire Week (Day 5)

This is my fill for the prompt "Family time". I skipped Day Four, but since I'm late anyway I figured I'd do them as I feel like LOL. Sorry for not finishing the week in time, I've been too busy! ...also, Regina, Emma and Neal being worried parents together counts as family time, right? Yes it does because Regina is family, I make the rules. This is set in a post-Neverland AU in which Henry and Pan didn't switch, everyone just went home and everything was alright. Enjoy!

Neal wakes up with his heart hammering in his chest and regretting all of his life choices. Or at least the most recent ones, because the pain running up his neck all the way through the back of his head and behind his ear could have possibly been avoided if he had managed not to fall asleep crumpled on a couch.

The first thing he sees, as he’s straightening his back with a low noise of discontent in the back of his throat, is Regina raising her eyebrows at him. Staring at him. Jesus Christ.

“What are you doing?” he asks, maybe a little too snappy, which is probably not too wise. All of his muscles are tense, ready for battle even though the danger has supposedly passed.

“This is my house,” she says, evenly. “I can walk around all night if I want to.”

Which, fair. She only let him and Emma crash there because Henry asked, and none of them wanted the poor kid who had just been kidnapped to be forced to pick which parent he needed the most for comfort. Neal is actually very much grateful for the hospitality, because he doubts he would have been Henry’s choice and he really doesn’t think he would have handled well not having him within the same walls as he is.

Not that he’s handling things particularly well even as it is, seeing how he has no hope of sleeping through the night. It’ll take a while to shake off the Neverland aftershocks, but it’s fine, he can survive on naps for the time being.

Regina doesn’t seem to approve of his life choices.

“I did give you a bedroom, didn’t I?” she says, knowing perfectly well that she did.

“I didn’t plan on sleeping,” he offers as an explanation. He figured it’d be less frustrating to not even try to sleep, rather than tossing and turning in a strange bedroom and jolting awake waiting for an attempt on his life or for his son’s cries for help.

Regina snorts. “Smart,” she only comments, shaking her head in disapproval and heading for the kitchen.

Well, fuck you too, Neal only thinks.

“Emma is outside of Henry’s bedroom,” Regina adds then, offhandedly. “If you want to go collect her. I will have a drink.”

She disappears into the kitchen without another word, and Neal is left sitting up, tense like he’s expecting something to happen. When no catastrophe comes, he eventually pushes himself up, stretching with a low grunt in an attempt to loosen up and ache a little less, then he heads for Henry’s room.

Sure enough, Emma is in the hall, sitting on the ground with her back against the wall and scrolling through her phone. It seems like he isn’t the only dumbass in the house: that can’t be too comfortable. Though at least it doesn’t look like she’s going to doze off any time soon.

He eyes Henry’s bed, the sight of him tucked under the covers soothing him somewhat, then he moves to join Emma on the floor, because why not.

I owe some people the next chapter of my "Henry's Strange Little Family" fic (aka the platonic swanfirequeen co-parenting fic) but real life is kicking my butt. So I'm posting a small snippet of the part I like the most so far as an apology for it being more than a year overdue. The final version might change a little but this is the direction I'm trying to go in.

Excerpt after the cut

“Tron?” Emma asks.

“You don’t like it?”

“No, no. It’s fine. It’s just… an odd choice.”

Then again, it’s not any odder than having a full blown movie night.

Henry had asked Neal for one which meant that Neal had pestered both Emma and Regina until they agreed to it.

In the days leading up to this movie madness, Emma had tried to console herself. It could be worse. It could have been a game night.

These reassurances were less helpful when she realized that one day, there might actually be a game night.

I’m writing the self indulgent Emma - Neal - Regina co-parenting fic of my dreams. (AKA what I wanted from season 3B) (Instead they killed Neal & brought back Gold ugh)

I’m only in the second draft and I’m going to have to make quite a few edits but it’s making me so happy that I wanted to share an excerpt. I hope it amuses you as well.

“I noticed,” Regina says, “That you decided to volunteer my house for this idea of yours.”

“To be fair, both Emma and I have limited space. But hey,” he says with a sort of amused smirk, “We could always go look at rental houses. Split the rent into thirds.”

Regina has this mix of disgust and confusion on her face, like the very concept horrifies her but she’s also not sure if he was kidding or not. Emma just looks unamused. “Weirder,” she deadpans.

New writing routine experiment: write it up like a tumblr post to get yourself excited about the idea and actually brainstorm without instantly doubting your word choices.

My handwriting gets really messy and sloppy when I'm writing quickly. And I drop words and make typos because my mind is already a few steps ahead of my hands 😅 I promise I have better handwriting when I hand things in for someone else. But I'm weirdly proud of writing this all out so I'm making a post out of it 😂

Writing is actually making me happy for once.

I can wait to take all of this and actually put it into prose!
