Some ranting about AI art, no apologies needed.

Tumblr is being flooded with AI art of fat bodies, and most of it is frankly bad.

First, it provides a way for blogs and people that are fatphopic and hate fat people a reason to further target us.

Second, it's promoting wildly unrealistic body types. A lot of feedists use this lifestyle to find refugee and healing from body disphoria, eating disorders, low body self-esteem, and seeing shitty art of 1000 pound people being fed by machines is fucked for that.

Third, support actual artists who are making fantastic fat art! Personally, I am a huge fan of @cupcake-witch-with-sprinkles, @es-draws, @thefoolandthehermit, @ebc-art just to name a few artists in the feedist space that blow any AI art out of the fucking water!

If AI art gets you going fine but doesn't support blank blogs, that just posts for like or reblogs and gives nothing back to the community.

Posting this here too because fuck ‘em and they advertise everywhere: do not buy from or support @strikegentlyco . They’ve been caught using generative ai for a handful of their blanket designs. “By independent artists” my ass. They’ve since removed the ‘in collaboration with Dalle’ from the capybara blanket btw, this is 100% intentional.

Remember Glaze, the tool you can use to cloak your art and protect it from being scraped by AI?

There’s another tool out now, and it’s called Mist. From what’s written and what people are saying, it requires less processing power than Glaze and is faster. And apparently, it leaves less artifacts on flat artstyles (like mine).

Recently I joined a furry discord server (I know cringe) and I cannot believe how many people there think that using ai generated images is ok. They will use excuses like "I cant afford comms" or "I don't know how to draw".

People will defend ai saying that its not hurting anyone but it is. It hurts all the artists that had their work stolen to train the program. It hurts artists that rely on commissions for their income and it hurts the fandom as a whole. Since ai is an unoriginal, soulless, ugly, and overall just a cheap imitation of art and creativity.

I think this is insane for a community that is literally centered around art and artists‼️It's not just digital/traditional art fursuits, badges, sculptures, vr models, and plushies are all just as important. And once people stop respecting the 2D artists, guess who they'll come for next? This fandom literally cannot exist without artists! Anyone that supports ai "art" has no business being apart of the furry community!!!

These programs (which isn't actual artificial intelligence by the way) wouldn't exist without the unethical theft of hundreds of thousands of images from artists who put hard work into their craft. Replacing creativity and skill with that is not the answer. Art is about far more than having a quick image puked up by technology.

You spent decades developing your personal art style from scratch. Hours, months, years of your life practicing and fine tuning and creating things to develop it

And you build a following from your art that you poured your entire soul into making, and they like it! They love your art and they love you! And the work you put in pays off and you feel supported and you feel Seen. And it makes your heart soar every time someone comments on your art

And then some asshole plugs your name into an AI prompter and your decades of work are ripped apart and crudely clipped together to make something in seconds that would have taken you days. And that person claims to be as valid an artist as you. And they sell your art off the back of the same following YOU built, to people who believe it's your art or people who don't care it was stolen from you

...How are you supposed to come back from that?
