I have been obsessed with repettos and carels for so so long now (like way over a year) and have just been marveling at them over Pinterest bc they are so! expensive!

anyways! my friend (who I made in a class-- I am very proud of this as its kind of a rare occurrance [I blame airpods and iphones not my social skills]) found a great dupe for repettos by steve madden, the "cherish patent slip on heels." these combined with the steve madden student discount (so worth it.) were soooo much more affordable.

Hello! I apologize if im bothering, and wish you all the best in upcoming year! I wanted to ask, do you perhaps have some suggestions for modern plays ( written in last 20 or so years) inspired by greek tragedies (either serving as motifs or beibg retellings), particularly Oresteia? I am asking because I see lots and lits of literary retellings, but with few exceptions, rarely dramas. Thank you anyway, sorry for bothering, and have great holidays!

hi!!! i can think of a few but but because i'm more of a roman epic person the list is mostly plays i've actually seen. i think literary retellings are probably easier to find people talking about online because like. they aren't performed and so there's not the access barrier of needing to Go And See The Performance. and then also there are plays where you then can't get hold of the script! i'm also assuming you're interested in plays that aren't just translations / close adaptations of tragedies, because those are a lot easier to find and also like. more common?

here are some plays that i have either read or seen that fit your criteria and also fuck immensely:

the burial at thebes: a version of sophocles' antigone - seamus heaney

antigone the musical - marina mccready (does cool things w genre; version of antigone that has made me feel the most genuine sympathy for creon)

the cure at troy: a version of sophocles' philoctetes - seamus heaney (this isn't quite within the last 20 years but you may be interested anyway!)

phaedra's love - sarah kane (also a bit older but it's sooo good. although it is maybe more senecan tragedy than greek tragedy?)

phaedra - simon stone (based on euripides' hippolytus but also the plays by seneca and racine. but also it isn't any of them. but also it IS)

oresteia - robert icke (maybe my favourite play of all time ever) (robert icke has also done a version of oedipus but it was in dutch and i don't think it's possible to get the script?)

girl on an altar - marina carr (inspired by the oresteia but. not. also very cool in that it incorporates a Lot of iphigenia at aulis and yet iphigenia never appears. and then the whole play is about her)

also! if you aren't aware of the archive of performances of greek and roman drama productions database you might also want to rummage around in there! like i am Aware of things like a recent musical version of medea / iphigenia in splott but they are almost certainly in that extremely filterable database :D

WHAT ABOUT DVDs?!

Like there’s BOUND to be so many discarded dvd’s at thrift stores and other places. Heck there’s stores that SPECIALIZE in this stuff.

Plus, there’s at least a handful of systems that are still available or you may already have that would be able to run a DVD.

If we all collectively said “Fuck you” to streaming services and started investing in DVDs again, they’re gonna have to reconsider their prices.

The only sacrifice I can think of is how I’ll be able to watch shows like Good Omens and Hazbin Hotel, but I’m prepared to make that sacrifice.

Also, can’t forget the aesthetic of having dvd cases full of dvds.

That’s just my take on streaming services increasing prices.

watcher entertainment is easily my favorite YouTube channel, but no way in hell is it worth the same price as Netflix purely from a volume standpoint

plus, personally I like watching their videos on the TV with my siblings. Is there going to be a watcher.tv app for fire stick at all?? It feels like no one thought this through.

#they look so hot they’re so long and pointy. im gonna GET you #I’ve had such a productive day I finally cleaned up my revision pit that I left behind when I went home #so finally tidied my room and washed my dishes and emptied my bin and cleaned my surfaces etc #and then I got my nails done which is of course SUCH a slay #and then i went to boots and my mate has a loyalty card with student discount on it that i copped #tell me how i got hair dye (this alone was £8) body wash shampoo conditioner and a hair mask ALL for £13. insane bargains from me #and then i finally FINALLY did a big shop bc I’ve fully not done one since coming back after xmas #im so accomplished let’s gooo #honestly i feel really restless and like I’m staving off an inevitable episode bc I just feel soooo ough and unsettled #and it’s always Bad when it gets like this but if i just keep doing things and ignoring it then everything will be fine! 😄#about to have a FAT bath. nothing is wrong with me #hella goes to uni

got THREE NEW PLANTS for my room today. all for the SWEET SWEET PRICE of £6.50. thats cheaper than TWO COFFEES. and i dont even DRINK COFFEE. so on EVERY LEVEL im WINNING.

#the uni su fair had a little stall selling plants w/ student discount...i bought two and then because i spent over £5 i got to spin a little #wheel to win a prize and i won another little plant im so happy with them who would like to see (tumbleweed. crickets. dead air)...fair #was FUN got loads of free stuff drank many a free sample of tonic wine at 11am in the morning...thinking of joining somestuff too i wanna #try writing for the uni magazine and maybe join the subject netball team although im a bit intimidated you get some people who do NAWT #play when it comes to netball. ironically. and also unless i can play centre/wa i fear im pretty much useless...ALSO thinking of trying the #jive class which sounds silly but how fun would it be to know how to jive. like thats so fun. and my friend is trying tango class i think..#we'll see!! also went 2 ikea with my best friend got snacks and now im back home : ^ ) happy friday!!!#(ridi's) bigmouth strikes again
