Endgame spoilers ahead but I guess if you have the tag filtered you wouldn’t be seeing this
Here’s my issue with Cap’s ending, bulleted even though it does nothing for the argument. I just like the format.
so he goes back to the 40s, 50s to live and grow old with Peggy, right?
he just goes through the century again. HOWEVER he is ALSO still in the ice throughout the 20th century.
So then in 2012 his ice self gets discovered, and he’s thawed.
that means steve rogers from 2023, who would be 94 in 2012, is living at the same time as newly-thawed steve.
now i’m no expert on time but i’m pretty sure that’s not supposed to happen.
there is also the question of whether or not another timeline was created. well since steve didn’t really prevent anything, no right? or is it yes? did steve’s presence in a time where he shouldn’t have prevent something big? and since no one reverted it back to normal, it completely screwed up the timeline?
Back to the Future may have been BS, but i’m not sure if endgame can say any differently about itself.
onto other non-time-related consequences that upset me.
he just... left everyone behind? for a woman that he did, yes, care for considerably, but one that did move on and had her own family later one.
yeah, that’s another thing. peggy had her own husband and kids and steve just kinda erased all that.
now some people might get pissed at this, but i will point out that he did leave bucky behind.
please let me finish. bucky and steve hadn’t seen each other since wwii, after bucky fell off the train. they met again ~70 years later in 2014, but bucky didn’t recognize steve, and they spent a lot of time fighting. then bucky ran off to romania and steve wasn’t able to go after him until 2016. they reunite, join the civil war, and gradually start to become friends again. but then bucky has to go back to cryogenic freeze so the people in wakanda can find a cure for him. he doesn’t come back until infinity war.
“so what’s your point” you may ask. my point is that steve and bucky bARELY had any time together, just less than a year. and after steve worked so hard to get his best friend back. and may i remind you, steve did a LOT to get bucky back. he could’ve spent more time with him at least.
“you’re just another stucky shipper” one of you may say. and yes, i’ll admit, i did hope steve could move into a suburban house with bucky, who had taken up the shield but i didn’t even say anything explicitly romantic here. and i do love steggy. but... shouldn’t steve have moved on already? he had ten years to do so.
now i get that steve had all the reasons to go back. he may have felt he didn’t belong, he missed peggy, etc. but... he couldn’t have been concerned with messing up the timeline, or leaving behind his friends, and the country that relied so much on him to protect them? ok then.
i would have been more glad if he just came back and maybe just retired. if he was tired of fighting and defending, he could have said so. i’m sure everyone would understand.
so, in the end, i’ll just begrudgingly accept what the russos have decided to give us and shove it under the bed. i won’t forgive the felonies until they make captain marvel a CONFIRMED lesbian, explicitly said in the movie. then they’ll be mostly forgiven.
